I think we should talk about how western queer media are acknowledged as revolutionary and realistic good queer rep no matter how problematic some parts are, while asian queer media (bls and and sometimes gls) as a whole, despite their wholesome parts, will always be generalized as weird and fetishizing due to its few rotten eggs of the coop or maybe that's just me ig

That meme reeking with misogyny also where's meme for men huh?
As if it's only women/girl who consume yaoi/BL
'Her mere presence terrorize gay men'
I'm not gay, I'm bi but I'm a trans guy. If there's some 18 years old girl who really into gay manga I'll be like: "Cool. Okay that's awesome"
Also there's so many misconception about YAOI and fujoshi. I understand the weariness that gay manga will be just about fetish without support to the LGBT community due to the past history
Must I remind you that the world back then was so homophobic ( still homophobic now but I try to understand from western perspective ) especially in Asia? Many Asian country are still 2x more homophobic than the west both in the present and in the past. So many lgbtqia+ media like in manga cannot go mainstream and WHEN they were even granted publication it had to be from porn channel/publishing or they'll be put into the niche yaoi category only
Sure perhaps implied LGBT element did make it to the mainstream but nothing like "all inclusive, positive representation, revolutionary 2022 media" even Yuuri on Ice was kind of a miracle
So of course due to the rampant homophobia there are many flawed BL. Hence why the notion that yaoi is only "jerking off material for straight women" came from, which is untrue.
Not all BL were and are made just for the sake of "YAOI" alone or to satisfy "straight women/girl" many of them were consumed by LGBT people and even made by LGBT people too
These YAOI material and manhwa that many people from the west scoffed at helped a lot of Asian LGBTQIA+ people to discover themselves and they also help to make LGBTQIA+ stuff even more mainstream in Asia.
Also perhaps the term fujoshi/fundanshi is a bit outdated but in a nutshell it's not just about straight people who are into LGBT stuff in media (particularly in manga and anime) it's just in general also encompass anyone who are into queer shipping and media including LGBTQIA+ people themselves. Also...
Fujoshi/fundanshi term also helping to protect some Asian people from homophobia. Here's the thing: I live in a country that is VERY homophobic, the only way I can consume LGBT media without people feeling suspicious about me and hurting me, is for me declaring myself as a Fujo. People mind will goes straight to this misconception about yaoi and Fujo that some western people have: "oh she's into gay bl but not actually LGBT yeah that's okay i guess"
( which is once again untrue, many people who are using the label Fujo/fundanshi or into yaoi are either LGBT themselves or not LGBT but supporting LGBTQIA+ movement and rights )
I literally have to pretend that I'm not LGBT and I have to pretend that I feel disgusted by LGBT people because i have to protect myself. It's killing me. But it's either I have to lie or I'll die
Tumblr media
why r antis like this
there is so much wrong with this and I don’t have the spoons to do a full breakdown but yeah this is, I believe, made by a TERF if the reference to autohomoeroticism is any indication
