hi! i loved your interpretations about rin's character and how much depth it gives her! could you tell us your thoughts (ignore if not!!) about obito, since he's a bit of a debated character and your art features him so well? do you believe he's allowed some kind of redemption, or not, or maybe you reject the post-rin's death obito altogether? in any case i think he's quite a fascinating character within the context of the naruto's horrid shinobi world but i personally don't get his evolution...
hey! thank you very much!
i rarely engage in fandom stuff these days, my only thought about obito at this point is that I Like Him Very Much (i’m lying actually, i have a lot of thoughts about him but you’ll have to be more specific haha). he’s a nice little guy, fun to watch and easy to empatize with as a kid, he’s a fascinating and complicated antagonist later on - a bit cliched in both roles, but none the worse for it. while his fate is grotesque (yet touching), the main foundation for his often gruesome deeds is his love for kakashi and rin, which is tastefully bittersweet. imo obito is one of the best characters in the franchise and one of the few i can enjoy without turning them into literal ocs.
also he is the only one who stands up to kakashi’s bullshit. king❤️
for the redemption thing- i don’t really think he needed any. (i remember literally just crumbs from war arc but) i guess his decision to side with naruto doesn’t sit well with me. kakashi’s speech to obito, dedicated mostly to naruto, doesn’t sit well with me either. obito’s final speech, addressed to, once fucking again, naruto, makes me just mad. narrative portrays the whole idea of the infinite tsukuyomi as evil and like...it’s not? dude i WISH i was trapped in some spooky cocoon living the life of my dreams and slowly and peacefully dying...and even if he did need any futher redemption, what could he possibly do? work for the very state that had lead him to the same actions that he’s supposed to be redeemed for? support naruto’s egocentric agenda? just accept the reality that’d been so absurdly cruel to him he’s convinced it wasn’t real?
aaaand obito from verse where rin isn’t murdered is a very special sort of a treat to both me and him. he should deal with the realization of the nature of his crush(es) on his weird best friend(s), his self-esteem and the burden of being the sweetest yet dumbest guy in the world, not the dead patriarchs fucking up his mind :)
