Watched Mutant Mayhem! It's pretty good, didn't re-write my brain chemistry or anything, but it does some novel stuff that I thought was interesting.

My only advice is to not watch it in 3D, lmao, it actively detracts from the experience

the thing about romcoms is just- it's never meant to be 'is it believable?' but instead 'do you believe it?' do you believe these two characters are actually falling in love with each other??? do you believe their chemistry??? do you believe whatever obstacle is thrown in their way is legitimately something that might keep them apart for a time and not something that could be solved with one conversation?? do you believe that they believe they need to fake date for this very specific reason??? do you believe the reason why they're 'enemies' at the start, no matter how silly a misunderstanding it may be??? do you believe the grand romantic gesture fits the characters and is actually how one character would show their love to the other?? like!!!! it's about empathy and authenticity and feeling what the characters feel so strongly that even if it's a trope or a cliché it doesn't matter because you believe it

#this is what separates a good romcom from a bad romcom for me #if the conventions of the genre are used in a way that feels authentic to the characters then it'll never feel cheesy #one of my biggest pet peeves is some of the romcoms of the last decade who have this real 'we're not like other romcoms' energy #where they try to act like they're Different and move away from the usual tropes but it's shit bc that's not the point!!!!#those tropes and conventions are staples of the genre for a reason #it's how you utilise them and incorporate them that matters #like fuck me i hate action movies but i know if i go see one there's a 99% chance there'll be a car chase scene #bc that's usually a staple feature of an action movie and i mean idc but that's fine bc i know it has a function in the story to increase #the tension #and even at that someone who really loves action movies could probably tell me the difference between a good car chase scene & a subpar one #in the same way that just saying something is fake dating doesn't automatically make it good #but if i believe it and i'm in it with the characters? oh boy i'm about to feel so dELIGHTED for the next 90 minutes thank you so much #anyway i'm rewatching the lost city and every second of this movie is so silly in a fun way and fantastical but oH BOY DO I BELIEVE IT #mine

Have I ever mentioned how much I love the NATM1 movie posters? I’m not sure why but the lighting, the warmth, all of the exhibits around it’s so 2000s. It’s so fun. It’s so visually appealing. Feels like childhood. Phenomenal.

#The second and third have a lot more blue on them; NATM2 especially #Which I do like actually #But these ones have a special place in my heart #Natm #I should get them framed in obnoxiously large posters and stick them on my wall #night at the museum #I always forget that when the first movie came out Rami Malek was not a particularly well known actor #In retrospect this makes promotional material hilarious #from the modern perspective it looks like they got an Oscar winning actor and then put his name 14th in the opening credits #That’s one of your biggest selling points and you don’t even know it #logistical reason another live action natm probably won’t happen is they can’t afford rami malek lmao #Everyday I mourn the NATM TV show we could have had #I mean it makes sense in the sense that so much of the cast is famous enough that it would be both pricey and logistically difficult #Most of the actors were primarily movie actors but I don’t think any of them are *strictly* movie actors #Rami Malek did a lot of tv acting in the 2000s Ben Stiller did a lot in the 90’s Owen Wilson’s done a fair amount so has Steve Coogan #So did Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson I think #Fucking hell a tv show would have been so good #That cast is *not* cheap talent though lmao

vacation starts tomorrow

#for one glorious week and a half i will be free from responsibilities #ive had a nice four day weekend to prepare and get things out of the way (like dentist appointment yesterday where i won at teeth)#theyre doing good! so i was worried for nothing! and i don't have to have another one until march so yay #but back to vacation. i will be having adventures and fun and most importantly sleeping in #but seriously ill be getting to see the beat supergroup in concert AND meet the guys. 2019 adrian belew era me this is for you #and three days in disneyland! ive never been so it promises to be an experience #and even more importantly watching movies of varying quality #one of which will be summer rental which is good for my friend whos a richard crenna fan #as am i. but you know ill be clapping and cheering for the 90 seconds worth of mr larroquette i cant wait #other than liveblogging my movie watching and other elements of my travels i may be on here less. probably not but we're hopeful

#sorry. watched a 90s pg13 movie and got mad LOL #ive mostly been watching movies for adults recently i forgot how bad kids and family movies are with this #(although dont get me wrong. movies for older audiences are not free of this either)#although. is the 90s brand of this trope better or worse than the current brand where its exactly the same except now #the only not white character is a black or brown WOMAN cop minor antagonist #maybe its just the same.#really starting to peeve me off. theyre not always literally a cop specifically #but theyre always representative of whatever establishment the protagonists are fighting against #and theyre always the SINGLE person of colour in the cast 😔#you can always feel it. how the writers wanted diversity but didnt think about it until the last second as an afterthought #or maybe they did think about it early on but decided they couldnt relate to a person whos not white #so they kept the characters who get depth like the protagonists and major antagonists white #and then threw in a minor antagonist cop character last second #and made her the only black or brown woman in the cast
