sorry if this is Silly but i want to get into kpop (loona and blackpink specifically) but the amount of content and just general info seems intimidating? do you have any tips/resources to get into it??

Hmm tips.. well I'm only casually into blackpink rlly, I listen to their music and ppl I follow talk about them so I vaguely know what they're up to so I'm not sure I can help there. And as for loona I watched their music videos and started following accounts that regularly talked about them? Loona also has like little videos (loona TV) to get to know the members but frankly I haven't even watched 30% of them so there's that. I think the best way to get into groups is through like. Exposure to fandom spaces? Like following ppl on twitter or tumblr. I could link you to some loona accounts if you want, lmk!

Okay so resources! Here's a playlist with their music videos in order. Because this group had members debuting one by one, they had loona tv so ppl could know them better and kinda see the journey of the group? But to be fair there's a lot of them so i wouldn't say they're a must, just something fun to watch if you're bored and want to get more into it. An alternative is loonathetam which is like a little series they do where they visit places (so far only one place LOL but it has a second season that's still on its 'pilot' episode lol so maybe more) and loona log which are little vlogs the members are currently posting every few weeks. (And Jinsoul and Gowon have posted their own series)

Here's an old beginners guide posted a while ago that while it isn't updated it has the most basic info, Here's some more info on loona if you want to know their concept, but it may become a little convoluted lol like if you're intimidated by too much info at once maybe skip that for now. and here some of my favorite interviews!

Thankfully since then we managed to have very productive conversations on the matter and how it problematic. He also admitted that a lot of Asian people in NA doesn see much issues with being racist against "FOB"s. I think that a huge issue. If you listen to any kpop at all, that playlist is going to be on your Spotify front page even if you didn subscribe, so it quite a big deal.For reference, LOONA has had (afaik) two songs on K Pop Daebak, favOriTe and See Saw. 1: I don think this is a realistic scene. At least it doesn start in a realistic place. A fat guy in a car puts a lot of ketchup on his sandwich. By far the best food in hawaii save like 3 places(2 on maui and 1 on the big island) are all on Oahu. Theres some pretty good places on Kauai, but I will mostly list stuff on Oahu as it has the most to try. Theres a lot of tourist traps in hawaii, so knowing where to eat saves a lot of money, and theres a big difference in quality as well. The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter - MONSTA X

When I first listened to Monsta X’s new album, I wondered if I was liking every single song because I am biased. Then I remembered that I tend to hate 70% of Monsta X’s b-sides and kind of disliked Fighter, and established that this is just a really, really amazing album in which almost all of the songs could be title tracks.

While I do think they’re still following in BTS’ footprints quite closely, I do feel that Beautiful is a small step towards finding their own sound. The production is still ridiculously crowded and full of bleeps and bloops, but the chorus leaves plenty of space for Kihyun. Considering he’s pretty much the vocal backbone of the group, it was about time he got to show off, instead of just sing.

The video is gorgeous in a #notthatdeep way, but I appreciated that some imagery from the previous chapters of the trilogy was incorporated and I do adore that jacket dance.

My favourite song of the album - and the confirmation that Kihyun could sing me the phonebook - is I’ll Be There, which incidentally is one of the few songs in the album that was composed by a group member (in this case Wonho).

The other song that has to be mentioned is Oi, which disappointingly is too out there to ever be a title track, but is one of the best hype songs I’ve heard this year.

Hi! Pristin - PRISTIN 

 Urgh. Because of my eternal love for Seventeen and Orange Caramel, and the decidedly “fierce” dance practices they had put out in the past few months, I was expecting a lot from Pledis when it came to Pristin’s debut. I struggled with their debut Wee Woo the first three times I listened to it, but the song grew on me incredibly fast. It doesn’t have classic girl-group hammering hook (see Red Velvet’s Rookie or any Twice song), but it’s catchy from the second listen onwards, especially for a song with no real build-up (which is probably why I found it so disappointing the first time around).

My real qualm with them is that they copy-pasted everything I hate about Twice. All their live performances are a whirlwind of crop tops and tiny shorts, worn by 16-year olds who deserve better than to be sold as sexy children. It’s true that half of the members of Pristin are 18 or over, but it’s really frustrating to see that even a new group with significant talent and name recognition, from a company that delivered some pretty crazy stuff before, is falling into the same boxes as all the others. 

Flight Log: Arrival - GOT7 

Given how much I loved Departure and hated Turbulence, the last part of GOT7′s Flight trilogy could have gone either way - or fallen in the middle, which is what it did. I don’t know if it’s just because at this point I have no expectations for GOT7, but I couldn’t bring myself to be angry that this is yet another directionless, trendy for the sake of being trendy album. 

 I never felt like GOT7 had a clear identity, but listening to their singles up to Fly, there is a faint thread that was completely cut with Hard Carry (the wooooorst) and hasn’t been picked up with Never Ever. I don’t even dislike the song - I’ve been listening to it on a loop since it came out and I find it to be one of the best iterations of the tropical house (drink!) trend. The problem is exactly this, though: it’s part of a trend and it doesn’t really say much about GOT7 as a group.

The other song I’ve been playing from the album, Paradise, has the same vibe and the same problem: it could easily be from any of the minor acts that have jumped on the tropical bandwagon in the past year or so.
