whenever I think about what it would be like if yoichi joined afo, I always end up with the same concept where he eventually caves in after a couple years in the Torture Cube that is the vault (whether he's able to pass on ofa before all that is up for debate) and like. yeah he'll do villian things and murder people but afo generally likes to give him easy, insignificant jobs that any semi competent person can do. so he usually doesn't get to do any real action and is mostly relegated to making sure one of afo's many money laundering businesses are running okay or whatever kind of white collar crime afo has going on. so he constantly feels belittled, sheltered, devoid of purpose, etc., and the vault didn't even completely kill off his morals so there's just this constant pervading sense of guilt with everything he does. no matter what, there's always this nagging sensation of defeat and shame at every waking moment. but he can't even rebel bc at this point he's so afraid of going back to the vault that he'll do anything to stay out, so he's stuck living an intensely miserable life while trapped with his brother lol

Why All Might Should Live

I have seen a lot of theories on All Might’s possible death, and while I don’t really know if he’ll survive to the end of the story or not, I do very strongly feel like his death would go against the character arc he’s had so far.

The Symbol of Peace ends at Kamino Ward. But All Might and Yagi Toshinori continue on. I think it’s important to separate these three identities, because while All Might's identity as an omnipotent god dies at Kamino Ward, he’s still a hero to many, including Izuku and the rest of Class 1-A. The loss of his power doesn’t stop him from being a hero, even if Toshinori feels like it does. And even more importantly, the end of the Symbol is the beginning of Toshinori relearning how to be a person instead of a symbol.

Kamino Ward could’ve ended with All Might’s death. All Might himself even accepts this as a possibility years beforehand, and originally doesn’t see anything wrong with being so unconcerned about his own demise, so long as he accomplishes his goal of defeating AFO.

Instead, the story subverts this. All Might doesn’t die, leaving behind a grieving successor like Nana did. Instead, Toshinori lives, and has to face his greatest fear: watching what happens to the society he helped build in the absence of their Symbol.

All Might gave up the things that made him human to become the Symbol of Peace, and this is, in my opinion, the biggest tragedy of his character. The Symbol of Peace can’t have any weaknesses. When Nighteye’s concern for him becomes an obstacle to his goals, he ends their relationship pretty ruthlessly.

In one way, this is a very selfless decision. All Might is willing to stand completely alone if it means he can protect the world and make the people in it feel safe. But in the narrative of the story, we don’t see this decision as selfless. Instead, we see the pain that he caused Nighteye by doing this. 

Their relationship remains broken for years, and they only reconcile on Nighteye’s deathbed. Still, it’s clear that his former sidekick never bore Toshinori any ill will over this. Even years later, Nighteye’s goal was still helping All Might survive (it’s why he’s so angry over Toshinori passing OFA on to Izuku instead of a more prepared student!). Not because the world needed a Symbol, but because Nighteye cared about him. To Nighteye, Toshinori’s worth isn’t dependent on his ability to protect others.

Once All Might loses OFA, he has to start depending on others to protect him. This is an adjustment for Toshinori, who in all likelihood hasn’t been “protected” since Nana died fighting AFO. You can see how lost he looks when he realizes his own powerlessness.

Of course, AFO recognizes this insecurity in him. All Might sacrificed so much of himself to build an era of peace, a time where crime rates are low and most people feel safe, but he no longer has the power to maintain that peace himself. He’s forced to entrust it to others, something he resisted doing before.

All Might’s dream was a noble one, but it was never something sustainable, too dependent on one person holding up an entire country on their own. Now he has to watch everything he worked so hard to build start to collapse around him.

After All Might loses his quirk, he loses his original purpose as the Symbol of Peace. As difficult as the events of Kamino Ward were to deal with, AFO’s words about not raising his successor properly stuck with All Might. Since Toshinori can’t be a hero in the traditional sense anymore, he decides to focus on training Izuku to replace him.

There are definitely issues with his, since it’s clear Toshinori has lost a lot of self-worth with his quirk, but this moment is the real beginning of his character arc, as it’s the first time he has a purpose as a person instead of a Symbol.

When he tries to convince Inko to let Midoriya stay in the dorms and continue at UA, Toshinori is only thinking about what he can sacrifice for Izuku, instead of what will actually make him happy. His self-worth is still very much dependent on his ability to protect others. He doesn’t think about the negative effect his death would have on Izuku.

Inko, thankfully, points this out quickly, stating how All Might being alive to raise Izuku into a hero would be far more helpful than sacrificing himself for him. All Might being alive makes Izuku happy; if Toshinori cares about his successor’s well-being, he shouldn’t be so quick to throw his life away. She asks him to live for Izuku in the same way that Izuku lives for him.

All of this character development culminates in this moment between Aizawa and All Might. All Might cannot be a Symbol without his power, but he still has worth. He can still provide people with strength and inspiration, just by being alive. He still has things to offer the world, even if he no longer has the power to protect it himself. 

Aizawa telling Toshinori that he is allowed to live as a person, that he is allowed to live in the world even if he no longer has the power to protect it is powerful, because Toshinori still doesn’t feel worthy of living if he can’t be the Symbol of Peace.

This is the end of All Might’s meeting with AFO. It’s a far cry from the scene in the hospital post-Kamino, where we saw him claim he was going to find and reach out to Shigaraki. It’s also a big change from the All Might who accepted Nighteye’s prediction of his death. 

The most common theory I’ve seen lately is built around the idea that not trying to find Shigaraki was the wrong thing to do, and that he should make up for it now by reaching out, even though Shigaraki will definitely kill him if he meets him.

While I do get the appeal of All Might dying while reaching out to Shigaraki, I also question why a character whose arc is centered around him finding a will to live beyond being a hero should take on a mission that would undoubtedly end in his death. To me, that would oppose all of the character development we’ve seen from Toshinori. Would dying for Shigaraki be more important than living for Izuku and the other students? So far, I feel like the story has pointed towards no as the answer.

I think that UA kids deserve a break - a very long and boring one, therapy and just basking in each others’ comfort for a while. No person ever should see a dead body unless they choose to.

As for Tamaki, I am pretty sure that he and FG are just MIA at the moment, because if they were not I think we would have seen FG’s pictures with the other dead heroes. Plus, both have incredibly useful quirks when it comes to situations like that, and I hope that Horikoshi will take the road of them being in a coma, if they are at the hospital at all. Otherwise it would not make sense for Horikoshi to not show them (but the same argument can be made for Denki, who is also absent from the last chapters). I do not particularly care for neither Nejire and Mirio (I just do not see any appeal in their characters), but I reckon that it would deal a very hard blow on them - and I do not want any kid dying (even though I do think it might be slightly unrealistic in the future, because at Jaku there were loads of heroes, but as some died and a lot retired, I think a lot of the burden will fall on the students who will choose to fight against AfO - a bit like what happened at Hogwarts between Voldemort and Harry).

I think that the ‘I am not here’ sign is not an insult to AM, in a way that citizens are blaming him because he retired - but it is more like the fact that now citizens cannot be feeling secure in their own houses anymore. This is a jab at still active heroes, at heroes who retired and in general to all of those who believed in the society and relied entirely on AM to feel safe. It perfectly describes how society is slowly falling down the rabbit’s hole - and there is no one to stop the fall. So it’s a praise at AM, who showed to be able to be relied on, and he was the Symbol of Peace for a reason (and the fact that his role remained vacant to a degree where the villains took the lead instead). It is not a ‘Why aren’t you here?’ message, but a ‘I wish you were here’. 

Gran Torino is nowhere near dying, believe me. The man held out through Nana and Toshinori, he will definitely hold out at least until the last battle, or until AfO does not get defeated (or near that point in time, however). And since I think that might take a while, I would for now say that Gran Torino will outlive us all, like the genuine badass that he is.

Talking about defeating AfO, and the big trouble which is brewing in the meantime by AfO’s plans, as I said it will take time. But I am not sure whether this will be months or like around the lines of a year. The fact is this arc (Endeavour’s Redemption, Hospital Recovery and literally society taking a big blow which needs to be stabilised day by day) will be for a while. What I mean, is that we will not likely get a time skip before this arc ends (and it might take a while too, because we just started exploring Enji and Touya’s past, which I am sure will be further incriminated by Shouto, Rei, Natsuo and Fuyumi’s memories). After that however, I think it depends on Deku. We know that he is in a coma, currently stable but not showing signs of waking up. This could mean two things: Deku stays in coma during this arc (which means we are getting a time skip) or that Deku wakes up, and has terrible wounds and traumas (we means that the current arc will be longer, and we going to get or frames of his rehabilitation, or we are going to get a smaller time skip - as in a few weeks, or three months at best). I say this because, as the protagonist, and the one who will have a very important role in the climax of the story, it would be likely unrealistic for Horikoshi to leave him out: so it literally depends on how Hori will deal with Izuku’s situation. But I do believe that the second option is more plausible (as Deku will need time to train even further, to be able to withstand AfO’s power - and which also does not mean that the story will be in a stall. Far from that, we will likely get to see the Todoroki’s way more, Bakugo getting therapy and what not, maybe even Hisashi coming back (or the reveal of his identity) plus the whole Kurogiri real’s identity, Mr.Compress lineage and the truth of Machia). And finally, I do believe that Deku incurred in a major damage type of situation, but I hope that one of the quirks that he will discover during this arc have to do with damage absorption (similar to FG’s quirk) and that, since Izuku’s quirks are way more powerful than in their original time it might help him with the times to come. I am not sure however it will be about his arms , but more about his body as a whole (because the broken bones are one thing, but the fact that he strained himself so far, is concerning and will 100% bear its fruits in terms of mobility for Deku. To be honest, it would be interesting to see that Izuku lost partial functionality to one of his limbs, or that much like AfO he had to be rebuild in some parts). 

This is my take on this things, but as being future assumptions I am just putting it out there. There are some of these things which I would not like to see, but oh well, the only thing we can do is to sit, wait and let it come.

BnHA Chapter 275: YAAAAY but Also AHHHHH

Previously on BnHA: Endeavor was all “I’M FIGHTING TOMURA AND YOU CAN’T STOP ME” and set everything on fire. Unlike SOME people, however, it turns out fire is NOT Tomura’s weakness, so he basically just shrugged it off. But before things could progress any further, AFO was all “psst, go get One for All” and Tomura was all “? One for All?” and Endeavor was all “?? One for All?” and Deku and Kacchan, who were listening in on their earpieces, were all “!!!” Having thus realized that Tomura was targeting him, Deku sped off to lead him somewhere away from the civilians... accompanied by his good friend Bakugou “274 chapters of character development have all been leading up to this” Katsuki. Because like hell are you going to have an EPIC BATTLE with the FINAL VILLAIN without him, you damn nerd. Who’s he going to heroically sacrifice himself for if you’re not there?? Hahh!?

Today on BnHA: Deku and Kacchan fly off to battle Tomura after confusing Endeavor into giving them his location (which wasn’t very hard lmao). En route, Deku finally thinks to ask Kacchan why he’s tagging along, and Kacchan is all “DON’T GET ME WRONG, IT’S JUST BECAUSE I WANT REVENGE ON TOMURA, AND DEFINITELY NOT BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL, HOW DARE YOU, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SAY THAT”, which is super convincing and didn’t make me roll my eyes at all. Anyways so then Tomura shows up and is all “EYO TIME TO KILL YOU NOW” and Deku and Kacchan are all “OH SFFKDFK”, but fortunately Gran shows up to save them in the nick of time, because BnHA is literally the only shounen manga in which grown-ups will see kids trying to lead a battle and be like “lol wtf” and actually try to stop that shit instead of being all “what are your orders, children.” The chapter then ends with the heroes doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING??Namely, having the guy who can TURN OFF QUIRKS battle the guy with the ultimate death quirk! I’m so proud. But also I swear to god, if Tomura so much as breathes suspiciously in his direction...!! What the fuck. HORIKOSHI.

I can see this part being interpreted in two totally different ways if I’m being honest. on the one hand we have the more pessimistic (some would say realistic) view that Bakugou is desperately trying to convince himself that he’s still on the same level as the rival he so desperately wants to surpass, but with the sinking feeling that he’s actually not going to be able to keep up for much longer. and then on the other side of the coin we have the more glass-half-full perspective that he actually is capable of keeping up with him right to the bitter end. that even as Deku grows stronger, he’ll continue to push himself and use that as motivation to keep getting stronger too. that Deku isn’t out of reach; that his goal isn’t out of reach

and I’m not completely sure which way this is leaning myself! I personally would like to lean more towards the second interpretation, because y’all know I love me some rivals. and also because imo one of the most commendable things about Bakugou’s development has been how he hasn’t once been envious of Deku’s strength or of his position as All Might’s chosen heir since he learned about OFA. he hasn’t once shown any kind of resentment towards him for it, or doubted whether or not he deserves it. and as minor a detail as that may seem to some people, I cherish it. and I don’t want that to change! but I guess we shall see

Previously on BnHA: Endeavor was all “I’M FIGHTING TOMURA AND YOU CAN’T STOP ME” and set everything on fire. Unlike SOME people, however, it turns out fire is NOT Tomura’s weakness, so he basically just shrugged it off. But before things could progress any further, AFO was all “psst, go get One for All” and Tomura was all “? One for All?” and Endeavor was all “?? One for All?” and Deku and Kacchan, who were listening in on their earpieces, were all “!!!” Having thus realized that Tomura was targeting him, Deku sped off to lead him somewhere away from the civilians... accompanied by his good friend Bakugou “274 chapters of character development have all been leading up to this” Katsuki. Because like hell are you going to have an EPIC BATTLE with the FINAL VILLAIN without him, you damn nerd. Who’s he going to heroically sacrifice himself for if you’re not there?? Hahh!?

Today on BnHA: Deku and Kacchan fly off to battle Tomura after confusing Endeavor into giving them his location (which wasn’t very hard lmao). En route, Deku finally thinks to ask Kacchan why he’s tagging along, and Kacchan is all “DON’T GET ME WRONG, IT’S JUST BECAUSE I WANT REVENGE ON TOMURA, AND DEFINITELY NOT BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL, HOW DARE YOU, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN SAY THAT”, which is super convincing and didn’t make me roll my eyes at all. Anyways so then Tomura shows up and is all “EYO TIME TO KILL YOU NOW” and Deku and Kacchan are all “OH SFFKDFK”, but fortunately Gran shows up to save them in the nick of time, because BnHA is literally the only shounen manga in which grown-ups will see kids trying to lead a battle and be like “lol wtf” and actually try to stop that shit instead of being all “what are your orders, children.” The chapter then ends with the heroes doing EXACTLY WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING??Namely, having the guy who can TURN OFF QUIRKS battle the guy with the ultimate death quirk! and I’m not completely sure which way this is leaning myself!
