we need to talk about sabrina carpenter and the way she executes her brand/aesthetic bc after looking at the videos of short n sweet tour she is doing it PERFECTLY like she & her team really put SO MUCH thought into it - they’re putting on a production here
#like the 50/60s style visuals the outfits the set design#even the little things like the spin the bottle she does for the surprise cover#speaking of i’m obsessed with the way the heart section of the stage also converts into the sofa thing that’s so cool#i also love the way she’s transitioned from the eics era to the sns era it’s so seamless#like the main thing about this era is the vintage aesthetic & the kiss marks icons especially#but it keeps the romantic vibe of the love letter/heart icons in the eics era and she’s brought the hearts into this era#like the heart shaped stage and the heart cutout in her boots instead of her outfits#baring in mind this is her FIRST arena tour too (so proud omg) and this is the level of performance#that’s insane#so excited to see her in march <3#sabrina carpenter#oh rip already over vicious & bet u wanna from the setlist tho 😭#i wasn’t prepared to lose them

What was your design process/inspiration behind the JoJo Barbie designs?
Mostly I just took Anneliese and Erica's actual outfits and tried to modernize them a bit, make them a bit more unique and a tad sexier, as jojo designs often tend to be lmao
when i do jojo designs i generally have two rules of thumb:
i try to pick one element of the design and make it sort of like a notable central piece/pattern. with anneliese it's the tufted sleeves and corset, because the sleeves on her original dress have pearls sown into it in a similar pattern. It reminded me of a fancy pillow, so that's what i went with. with erica it's the laced pattern on her front and down her legs, inspired by the laced front of her dress.
the other rule is, i try to give the character some kind of a symbol. not all, but many characters in jojo tend to have some sort of symbol; rohan has the pen nib, giorno has the ladybug. i gave anneliese a rose and a crown, and erica little flowers and a heart
another thing i do when designing jojo characters is, make some unconventional/unusual jojo-esque clothing choices. Anneliese has one of my favourite Araki traits; the poots (pants + boots fused together), and with Erica, i gave her some unusual openings in her clothes; the lace on her torso (showing skin in unusually shaped cutouts generally works well for jojo designs)
to give another example, I did one other jojo redesign previously, that being basara from macross 7, but his outfit hasn't been changed that drastically since he already looks modern and unusual (original can be compared here).
main things i changed are his shoulder pads, which i once again turned into a more heavily patterned piece (making it covered with many small orbs instead of six big ones), and the front of his uniform, where i prolonged the unzipped part lower down to show more fishnet. i always feel like details like small patterns in a few places on a design add to that jojo flair (though on the opposite spectrum, some characters have very simple one-tone outfits, where the aforementioned symbol takes the central stage; such as josuke's heart and peace sign pins!).
ALSO, if you want to design a jojo character, take note that different parts of jojo often have different approaches to character design and different fashion styles!
I definitely plan on doing more jojo character designs in the future but they are all mostly from weirdly niche fandoms lmao :'D
i just.. when i like a character a lot my natural instinct is to want to turn them into a jojo character lmfao
#here's a hint of who i'm drawing next; it will be an unsung antihero we deserve#the real ones know :')#jjba#chat#tutorial#idk if this is actually helpful but im tagging this as a tutorial to find it easier in the future
