A Comparative Analysis of Hook’s Ship and Cabin in Popular Media Portrayals

Part 4: Peter Pan (2003)

P.J. Hogan’s 2003 film is full of life and color, and Isaacs’ Hook is likewise a colorful character who, though grounded in reality, most definitely has a flair for the dramatic and a taste for the finer things in life.

Like the other Hooks we have seen thus far, Isaacs’ Jolly Roger appears to be the large stereotypical pirate ship that all children think of, despite the impracticality of a slower vessel in actual piracy. (By this point, I think we should just assume that all Hooks go for form over function when it comes to their choice of ship.) It’s a gorgeous ship, and I do wish we got more close-ups of the outside of this particular Roger so we could see more of what’s going on with all the decorative work on the outside of the cabin and the figurehead, etc. One thing, though, that stands out about this ship is that the mainsail itself has a giant skull and crossed swords on it. This would be completely impractical for any actual ship, as the enemy would see them coming and know they were pirates right off the bat…lending credence to the idea that this ship (and this Hook) may be deeply shaped by the children’s imagination. Then again…what else should we expect of a pirate ship whose name itself is the Jolly Roger?

The shots we get of the inside of Isaacs Hook’s cabin reveal the living space of a man who is accustomed to a decadent lifestyle but not so over-the-top as to be entirely unrealistic. While his beautifully decorated harpsichord is the centerpiece of the room, we also notice that he has several tables, a couch, and a globe.

This is about all we can tell from the in-film shots of the cabin, but some promotional material and a pirate-themed hotel that purchased a few set pieces from the film and set up their own room to mimic Hook’s can give us a few ideas about what the rest of the cabin might look like. (Big shout-out to @annabellioncourt for providing several of these bonus material images!)

In the one promotional photo, there is what looks like a lute, perhaps, in the background. I also love the little detail of the skull and crossbones on the candle stand…and his li’l stripey socks.

Here we can see the full-sized bed with a gun and what looks like it might be an Eton crest over it. (Note that if you pay close attention in Hook’s intro scene in the film, you will actually see that the tattoo on his left arm is an Eton crest as well.)

Isaacs Hook also has a self-portrait in his cabin, it seems…which interestingly has a date on the frame of 1742. This is about the most specific we get with ANY Hook as far as time period goes. This is after the Golden Age of Piracy had really already come to an end, though it’s technically possible he might still have been “Blackbeard’s bosun” depending on his age, as Blackbeard’s career ended in 1718 in a battle off Ocracoke Island, NC. Isaacs himself was around 40 years old when the filming was done, so if we want to assume Hook was around the same age when he came to Neverland and the portrait was done shortly before then, he would have been around 16 at the time of Blackbeard’s downfall. A bit young but…it’s possible if he started his career at sea early. Cabin boys usually started out around age 12 but could be as young as 8-ish on occasion. However…this wouldn’t really track with Hook being an Eton student. Assuming he actually graduated, he would have been at the school until he turned 18. So while Isaacs Hook may have very well been a sailor or even more specially a pirate prior to Neverland…he likely wasn’t a peer of Blackbeard or the other more well-known pirates of the early 1700s.

One last thing that is interesting to me is that in addition to the more standard weapons/tools like chains, guns, and boarding axes that we see in some shots, this version of Hook keeps what looks like an entire small cabinet of various tinctures and powders. At least the one of them which he removes is poison, but one wonders….are they all different kinds of poison? Or are some, perhaps, medicinal in nature or for recreational use?

As a whole, Isaacs’ Hook is, I think, perhaps one of the most realistic portrayals of the character. While there are some highly fanciful aspects to his ship—like the giant skull on the mainsail—much of his personal space has the lavish furnishings one might expect of someone with an aristocratic background without feeling too entirely impractical. Add to that a concrete date on the portrait, and I’d say this Hook is more grounded in reality than nearly any of the others we’ve encountered so far.

๑ | synopsis : after vaggie didn't return home from the extermination, vaggies little sister whom waiting for her had her heart broken after hearing the false reason of why her older sister didn't return home. Instead of looking for her, she joined Adam with a burning heart and desire to end her sister.

Today was the extermination day. I gripped at my axe, glaring at my poor weapon. Hatred was bubbling within me, today was extermination day.. Where we will be slaughtering demons. Todays the day.. That means.. I'll be seeing her again.

I gritted my teeth as my grip on my weapon tightened till my knuckles gone white.

Adam was still spouting shit to the other angels. Lute was beside him.. As always, someday I just question their relationship. But whatever. I shook my head as I ignored their ruckus.

Suddenly I felt a tingling sensation on my abdomen. 𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬- 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺?! 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸? -

I stiffly went behind Adam as I tuf his dress.. Robe... Or whatever that is-

Adam turned to me as he smirk.

" sup squirt? Ready to face your bitch of a sister again? "Adam fully turned his body to me as he crossed his arm with a cunning smirk on his mask.

" Mhm, yeah, superv, ecstatic. But- can- i like- be excuse for a moment? -my shit boutta- leak- " I stuttered as I held my lower abdomen trying to hold it in.

Lute and Adam gave me the most "bitch-you-serious-rn? " face. I groaned asi nodded my head.

" yes im fucking serious- NOW CAN I BE PLEASE BE EXCUSE? " I groaned through my gritted teeth.

"I promise I won't take awhile. " Adam sighed and motioned his hand.

" yeah sure, whatever. Just get your shit done and immediately went down there, we don't want your shit leaking through the sky now do we? " Adam cackled as I gave him a disgusted look as I scurried away.

" can't wait to see that bitch reaction seeing you HAHA. "

Once I got my relief, I got out of the comfort room when my eyes caught my reflection. I slowly walked towards the mirror, staring at myself. I look just like her.. The only difference is that, I had more height and the bums- my hair was pure H/C and flowy. My eyes were bright E/C. My wings were bigger than hers.. Well it was huge to be honest. Well- bigger then anyone.

I sigher before grabbing my mask on my side as I wore it. I stared at my reflection for a moment before sighing once again.

" time to get this shit done. "

Battle cries, explosions, gun shut was the only thing can be heard in hell.

Angels were facing off the other demons, while Adam was facing off the radio demon.

" well you're-.. Fuck-.. What the fuck-.. Fuck you you red-.. Too much red- fuck- you fuck- SHUT UP! " suddenly tentacles wrapped around Adam and threw him to the "hazbin hotel" sign.

" ha ha! Poetry! " the radio demon grinned.

Adam growled at him suddenly he heard a flap of wings.. That was louder than the other angels.

Adam looked behind him to see a huge pair of wings.

" took her long enough. " Adam scoffed before turning back at the radio demon who was looking curiously at the angel who had a huge pair of wings.

Adam smirked " I'm gonna take that eat shitting grin off of your face. " he smirked as he flew up and created a bigger weapon.

Y/N stared down at the battle below as she did a few swings of her axe before flying down, swinging her axe to every direction, immediately chopping off the demons limbs.

Y/N went side to side, zigzag. In every direction possible. And there was no miss of her attacks.

She was breathing heavily as she gripped at her axe, her body was already covered in crimson blood.

Sudden she heard a familiar voice.. There she saw.. Her dear older sister. Who had her now longer hair tied into a ponytail, she had a large X sign in her eyes. She was wearing her old uniform.

Y/N felt her heart stopped for a moment as her breath hitched.. For after 8 years, she finally saw her again.

Her eyes widened once she saw her sister gazed at the princess of hell in such.. A loving look. She held her hand and gave the princess of smile a smile.

Her blood boiled at the sight. Her teeth gritted in rage as she positioned herself spread wide open as her eyes locked to 𝘩𝘦𝘳.

" focus sweetie. " she smiled as she gazed at her lover who gazed back down at her lovingly. Suddenly she felt a huge gust of wings and a loud flap erupted behind her.

Her breath hitch as she turned around holding her spear behind her shielding her and charlie. A loud 'clank' greeted her ears as her eyes were greeted with a mask. Eyes burning with rage.

Huge wings, the height, axe. She know damn well who this angel is.

Y/N pulled back her sword as she swiftly kicked her off from her feet and kicking her up strong enough to send her up in the sky.

A groan escaped her lips as she heard the cry of her lover.

" VAGGIE! " Charlie cried as she watched the angel with huge wings send powerful attacks to her lover.

" LEAVE HER ALONE! STOP IT! " Charlie cried as she tried to reach out for her lover. Y/N send her another kick before kicking her to the wall, sending her crashing to couple of debris.

" ooooooh.. Sheesh.. Angry sister alert. That gotta hurt. " Adam cackled on the sidelines.

Vaggie coughed a few golden blood, holding her side as she weakly looked up at the angel towering her.

It was silent for the both of them for a few moments before a growl escaped the angels lips.

" so you've been gone for. Eight. Fucking. Years just to hook up and play dolls with the hell's princess? " Y/N growled, her voice laced with venom.

" n-no.. N/N- t-thats not!- " Y/N slammed her axe near her head making vaggie flinched.

" 𝘋𝘖𝘕'𝘛. Call me that. " Y/N growled.

" you don't get to call me that, not anymore. " Y/N eyes glared down to her older sister. Her heart was filled overwhelming with rage and sadness.

Vaggie coughed for a moment as she took a shaky breath before forming another words.

" Y-Y/N..i swear i-. "

" you left me.. " Y/N cut her off.

" Y/N I swear that's not- "

" YOU FUCKING LEFT ME WITH THOSE DOUCHEBAGS FOR WHAT? EIGHT YEARS, I'VE WAITED FOR YOUR SHIT ASS TO COME BACK HOME AND GUESS WHAT? MY BITCH OF AN OLDER SISTER NEVER CAME HOME AND THEN I FOUND HER AFTER EIGHT. FUCKING. YEARS. PLAYING DOLLS WITH THE FUCKING PRINCESS. HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT?! " Y/N snapped at her older sister who flinched at her outburst.

Vaggie stared at her younger sister in shock, pain ached her heart seeing her once.. Pure bundle of joy sister like this.

" eight years.. Eight.. Fucking years.. Vaggatha.. " the angel whimpered as a broken sobbed escaped her lips.

" Y/N...I'm sorry.. Really.. I never ment- to leave you. I never did, they're the one who kicked me out.. Because.. Because I hesitated. " vaggie weakly explained.

Y/N looked at her in a troubled look before shaking her head.

" that's..not what they told me. " she muttered.

" that's the whole point Y/N!.. Heaven never listens..i tried to explain but-.. They never did. I never got the chance to say goodbye or- tell you my well-beings " vaggie weakly stand up, wincing here and there as she weakly walked towards her younger sister. Who grew a few inches on her height.

" but.. Why didn't you atleast- come see me after? " Y/N sobbed as she stumbled back.

" I did N/N, I tried but.. They never let me.. Not until we actually pulled strings to get us to meet the angels a week ago.. " vaggie weakly chuckled as she was now in front of her Shakened sister.

" a week ago?.. They didn't.. Told me.. " Y/N muttered, more realization flooded her mind, her head started to ache a bit.

" why.. "

Vaggie smiled at her younger sister sadly before gently holding Y/N shoulder. Y/N flinched but she didn't pushed her away.

" I'm really sorry N/N..i really am.. " vaggie muttered as she slowly embraced her shaking figure.

It took a moment Y/N to process her older sisters embrace before finally breaking down to her sisters arm.

She cried like a baby that time, clutching her older sisters suit as vaggie comfortedly stroked her hair.

After some time, Y/N calmed down as vaggie held the both of her cheeks.

" now let's kill some birds, ey? " vaggie smirked as Y/N chuckled.

" vags.. Im still an angel.. " Y/N softly laughed which vaggie soon joins after.

" well you're different. Now let's? "

" Mhm. "

Adam had his jaw dropped, eyes widen as he saw the most strongest angel he had slaughtering her fellow angels along side with her older sister.

He watched her figure appear and disappear through the air due to her incredible speed as the golden blood of the angels showered everywhere.

" FUCK YEAH! N/N!! " vaggie screamed, cheering for her sister who mercilessly Slaughters half of the angels.

" VAGGIE! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! " Charlie ran to her lover as she embraced her tightly.

Charlie looked at Y/N in shock and dumbfounded, just a minute ago she was eager to kill vaggie now she was fighting along side with them. Not that she was complaining.

" what.. Happened.. " Charlie muttered.

" I'll tell you later sweetie, right now, we gotta focus with our main goal. "Vaggie smirked as they got into a fighting stance.

More angels were slaughtered until it was left with Adam and lute.

" Y/N. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?? "Adam screeched as he watched the now dead angels as lute growled behind him.

Y/N glared at them with fire hatred as she held her axe tightly.

" you fucking lied. " she growled.

" YOU PEACE OF SHIT OF A DOUCHEBAG YOU MADE ME THINK SHE LEFT ME. " she threw her axe to their direction which landed on lute slicing off her arm. Lute screamed in pain as she fell down on her knees.

" you crazy bitch- " Adam growled as he step back.

" I'm gonna fucking kill you. " Adam growled, he was about to send a powerful attack when a knife went through his stomach. Everyone stared in shock as vaggie looked estatic.

" uh.. You got.. Some.. Thing "Lucifer awkwardly muttered as Adams body fell limp to the ground revealing the cultrip who stabbed her.

It was.. A child? Or just a small lady-

" nifty! " Charlie muttered in shock. The girl named nifty smiled menacingly before repeatedly stabbing Adam as she giggled maniacally. Lute screamed in horror as she limped towards Adam.

Nifty got off of Adam as she ran towards Charlie.

Lute turned Adams body around as she screamed his name.

" No! Sir! Stay with me! " lute screamed in horror as she watched his eyes slowly lost its life. Adam held a small smile as his eyes went completely lifeless.

" ADAM!.. " lute cried, she stared at Adams lifeless body before standing up stumbling to her step as she glared at Y/N who glared back.

" you... I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU. "

" fucking DARE TAKE ANOTHER STEP HERE AND I'LL FUCKING MAKE YOU REUNITE WITH THAT DOUCHEBAG. " Y/N growled as she stepped infront of them protectively.

" YOU TRAITOR. "

" YOU LIARS. "

lute growled as she breathed heavily as she took another step, Y/N scowl deepens as she spread her wings open, covering the others protectively as she went into a stance.

" I. Fucking. Dare. You. "

Lute took a deep breath as she held her spear in front of her as she screamed in rage.

Y/N glared at lute in pure hatred as she watched lute took Adams halo and left the scene.

Y/N watched her retreating figure as she finally calmsed down, relaxing her wings behind her as she turned around to face the others.

Vaggie smiled at her as she ran to her hugging her tightly. Y/N slowly wrapped her arms around her older sisters figure as she burried her face to her shoulder.

Vaggie let go of her as she held her cheeks pressing their foreheads together.

" I'm sorry proud of you. " vaggie smiled.

Though Charlie was not having this.

" uhh.. Ok.. So care to explain now? "

" ah right.. " vaggie went beside Y/N as she pointed at her then at Charlie".

" ok uhm.. Charlie, meet Y/N..my little sister, Y/N meet Charlie.. My.. Girlfriend. " vaggie smiled lovingly at Charlie.

Charlie beamed at the mentions of 'little sister' as she held out her hand excitedly.

" woooah! ~ it's my first time meeting vaggies family- i-im Charlie, Charlie morningstar! " Charlie held out her hand as she smiled excitedly.

Y/N was still hesitant with siding with the demons, she only joined here to be with her sister. But her sister trust them so.. I guess she can too.

Y/N stared at her outstretched hand before bowing politely.

Vaggie watched the awkward tension towards the two before coughing awkwardly.

Some credit to my lovely partner for giving me accurate info about their specific weapons. As well as a discussion on whether or not you can say Percy or Orthax invented Guns. -Finn

Percy

With anyone else in the party, there's a good chance you may have used a weapon like theirs before. But not Percy and his guns. These are his own inventions, new to Tal'Dorei completely.

They are also powered by exploding gunpowder. He is a little bit worried about letting you handle them.

Hearing a gunshot when he isn't causing it is a deep cause of concern for him, please don't steal his guns, just ask.

Percy will absolutely teach you! It's a chance to have his arms around you as he steadies your aim and stance.

He's a very...specific teacher. You have to make sure he doesn't get too wrapped up in the fine details. Keep him on track with how to shoot and he won't get way into the actual mechanics of the hammer of the gun.

Let him watch you shoot after you get the hang of it. He'll start to understand why you like watching him so much.

Vax

This man owns so many knives. He has a full-out collection of daggers. Hugging him is a dangerous prospect because you never know where one is hiding.

And with all the different daggers, it can't be that hard to steal one or two of them. How could he even notice?

Stealing them proves to be surprisingly hard. He doesn't store many of them, they always seem to be on his person.

But once you manage it, it's quite a lot of fun to handle a truly well-made dagger. In a fantasy world like this, every adventurer has held a dagger, but Vax turns it into an art and his tools reflect that.

They are also insanely sharp. Don't get too cocky with them.

He swipes them out of your hands when he finds you with them, and it's obvious just how experienced he is with handling knives. He can twist and spin them without a glance or a nick.

"Well, well, someone's got sticky fingers, hey love?"

He'll teach you how to throw them accurately and how to spin them without hitting your fingers. He will also tease you while you practice before you get the hang of it.

Scanlan

Scanlan doesn't particularly use a weapon! He's fairly strictly a spellcaster.

That being said, his instruments are likely the next best thing, particularly his lute. And that is his baby, best of luck stealing it.

If you ask him, he'll let you play it and he'll teach you during downtime. He will also serenade you for demonstrations.

He'll be annoyed if you take it without asking though. His music is a source of safety for him as much as a source of joy.

Let him teach you songs around the fire at night and serenade him in return. He won't stop smiling for ages.

Grog

Grog has had some...questionable weapons. Perhaps don't borrow Craven's Edge.

But borrowing his axe or his gauntlets is a world of fun. Even if they might not be well weighted for anyone who isn't as strong as he is.

You will quickly realize how much work goes into swinging his axe and it puts his effortless attacks into a very different light for you.

Grog laughs out loud when he sees you using his weapons, but it's full of fondness and affection.

Even if he isn't exactly academically clever, this is his skill set, he knows how to fight and he does it well. So he's a really good teacher as he corrects your stance and grip.

His teaching method also includes encouraging you to just swing at him, so you'll need a bit of courage and faith that you won't hurt him.

Vox Machina Details

I realized that now that I've completed all of Vox Machina, I wanted to show off the symbols I chose for each member and their designs as some of them I'm super proud of! If you're unsure what any of the symbols are meant to convey, just read blow the line.

Keyleth

(side note, I finished her original version at like ep 35 and had worked so hard to stay away from spoilers so I had no idea what most of the symbols meant and was struggling to think of things)

Kraken- I included it because the kraken fight will go down in my personal history as the fight that was the biggest... slog to get through. You felt the weariness of it as shit just kept repeating, and unfortunately half the table was slightly drunk making everything worse, and it was so pivotal because Vax died and that hastened his deal with the raven Queen and it was Keyleth completing her journey and it was Tary's first real adventure. It also was right after my Roman Empire Vaxleth quote so it had to have a place.

Goldfish -iconic

Acorn- so this is one that has nothing to do with her journey, but it's something I chose to symbolize what I love about her. I love her passion for life and her willingness to protect it. I chose it after she went against Grog during the Whitestone Arc and ran back to help the townsfolk fight the zombie giant. I loved it because she refused to let those people fight on their own to live, and it really stuck with me. Her unadulterated anger at the death of the fire ashari and so many other times she cares about life and I wanted to represent that, so much that I included it in her personal symbol at the top of the designs.

Fire - obvious reasons

Raven feather - gonna represent the love of her life

Snowdrop- yeah Vax got two but I'm so glad I did because that last episode had me sobbing just like Marisha and it's such a symbol of goodbye and love and stolen time

Vex

She is one of the most straightforward ones, another one that I had help on from the community because I didn't want spoilers but did want to encompass her entire journey and not just what I had seen.

Grizzly paw - for the best companion out there

Gold coins - Her greed is such a defining trait for so much of her journey to the point where it, in part, got her killed by wanting to steal the armour. It is her hating to spend 30 gold on a very useful book, it is so much of her and I love it.

Sun - Paelor, since she was chosen by him

Broom - As much as I wasn't a fan of the broom, it truly is such a big part of her, her fighting technique, and her personality again tied to her greed that I couldn't help but add it.

The gun and the dagger - for the two most important people in her life.

Pike

Her ship - It's cute how often she brought it up even when we never once see her at sea. I think Ashley really enjoyed that part of her backstory even asking about it in campaign 2.

Her holy symbol - Sarenrae is the God who has my heart simply for her kindness to Pike. Her warmth and love and how important that relationship is to Pike. More so than any other cleric, it feels like they get each other and I love that. I'm also sad Sarenrae hasn't been around much in the other campaigns. Someone give this God some love please (I'm on ep 46 of c3 so who knows)

The lute - even if they never go on a date during the campaign, that relationship is super important. It was the first relationship I shipped in VM and how often they look out for each other. I'll always be sad Ashley couldn't be there for ep 85

Grog's axe - adoptive siblings for life

Iris - since it's the flower of Westruun, I thought I should add also because Matt was able to pull that out of his ass when asked was incredible and needs to be remembered always.

Glabrezu claw - even if it's not a death we saw, that death echoed throughout the campaign and it affected Pike so much

Scanlan

Scanlan was harder. So many of his moments are intangible. How do you draw a counterspell? A wish? The hunt for drugs that are actually just cooking spices? the meat man? Modify memory? Scanlan will always be MVP of the VM campaign in my eyes, and so it was so hard to do him justice.

The three eyes of Ioun - No one expected Scanlan to be chosen but chosen he was and the world is better for it.

Triceratops - That fight was the first time Scanlan really showed he could hold his own. Hell, the rest of VM came out worse with 5 people than he did. It was the first time you saw how much of a beast Scanlan could be.

Pike's mace- the woman who made him better

The beret - I had just finished the briarwood Arc what I was working on him and I thought this the best representation of Sam willing to just roll with the stupidest running bits.

The Burt Reynolds mustache - His love of disguises and also one of his most iconic lines

The flute - representing his meeting Kaylie and how that changed so much of his journey.

Percy

I struggled with Percy and his symbols because I couldn't always grasp what was important and what drove him as tangible things outside his family, Revenge, and Vex. I also just have the most trouble connecting to Percy so I think that played a part.

The bird skull - I felt it showed his connect to others? As it passed through his hands it showed a care for others and I dunno, this one just stuck with me. So it's there.

Black powder -no way in hell I'm leaving Viktor out

De Rolo crest - His family and all that he lost

An arrow - his future, his shining north star, his better half

Black smoke - Orthax and how much control it had over him

Vampire teeth - a bit corny I know but had no idea how to represent the briarwoods so I rolled with this.

Vax

Snowdrop - the mirror Keyleth, and if you have the prints next to each other with Vax on the right and Keyleth on the left, the snowdrops mirror. They're the only two of the series to have that (can you tell who my favourite couple is?)

The raven Queen mask - she needed her own spot because she is.. the looming shadow over so much of Vax, his choices, and his story. She is unrelenting, she is ever-present, she is inevitable. And I hate her for it.

The arrow - twins for life

The antlers - This man supports Keyleth's rights and her wrongs and I adore him for it. I love that he says if you're going to your death to fight this dragon then I'm with you no questions asked. He worships her and it makes me weak at the knees.

The feather - those wings become as much a part of his identity as the broom is for Vex.

The belt - his love for that belt but also his use of equipment. Vax, more than anyone I think, has his identity was tied to his equipment and his icknic moments. His boots, his armour, his belt, his daggers. They make up so much of him.

Grog

He's another super straightforward one because we'll, Grog wasn't meant to have a deep and rich and complex character. He has amazing moments but again how do I show them? Craven's edge was something I tried for but it just didn't read as exactly that so I sadly left it out. Believe me, it hurt.

The deck of many things - Those cards were Grog's roman empire and it bit him in the ass at the end and I love it. Also just Travis and his absolute inability to not push the red buttons.

Ale - no group has loved taverns as much as VM, and no one in that group loves a night of drinking as much as Grog.

The Lute - for his best bud

The Mace - for his sister

The shapes - callback to the original audio intro with Grog being first

The bag of holding - few things were as paired as Grog and that bag. No one has their inventory as well organized as that Goliath.

Tary

Blondies - I know he was only a portion of it and I think because he was there for the time they mentioned it the most, I connect Tary the most with the Slayers Cake. It's the friendships he formed in his time with the group.

The list - thinking of him saving Keyleth and getting to mark off rescuing a maiden will never fail to make me laugh

The arrow - his best friend

The gun - his other best friend

The book - his many grand tales all documented in one fantastical book

The helmet - I really wanted it in the original design but it just wasn't going to work with the pose I wanted, so it ended up at the bottom.

Yepp so these are the things I connect with these characters the most. It's silly and so much effort for such a small part of the print, but I'm proud of them.

You are in this other school cause some ghost hunters think that the taulpas are just pissed off ghosts. They try to banish them but fail and make them stronger. And madder.

The tualpas also have new looks. And a new gimmick.

RELATIONSHIPS!

What do I mean? Simple.

Todd and Delilah being in a relationship? Due to 'todd' loosing an arm (karen don't ask) and Delilah having an ax arm the new taulpla looks like them as conjoined twins with one ax arm and a human arm gripping onto a bat. The hand has cat claws and the beings legs are goat like (going full Morningstar on todd and they all have goat legs. Or at least Charlie does.)

Chika and Ayla along with Toby are a large cerbuerus being. (They are very close.)

Alex looks more and more like Adam yet is dressed like lute.

The babies aren't here but you can occasionally hear crying. (NO they aren't sad it's a warning of hey THEY are here.)

THEY is...Ames and freddy. Freddy has lost his head and replaced it with a large bone skull construct. He's also sticking random junk to himself to make himself bigger and have more limbs. He can only talk through clicking. Ames meanwhile now has large cables sticking out of her and she can't move on her own so she tied them around freddy with one in his neck. Ames also has her face and body open like the fun time animatronics. And yes like the fnaf movie her face as saw blades in it.

They jumpscares are also very new and each have very different game over screens. Also THE TAUPLAS TALK NOW!

Patterns.

Alex is flying. You can tell where he is cause he won't enter a dark room. Hikari is as well but she only shows up at random in any of the toy chests. (Ypu walk by a ball pit and hikari pounces. That sort of thing. Just don't go near it if you hear giggles.)

The puppy pile is almost always sniffing the ground. They are too big to be inside so when you go out for 3 rooms look out for them.

Toddelilah is super slow due to them dragging the axe but they won't stop unless stunned by the flash light.

The mangle duo (ames and freddy) god help you on higher difficulty. They don't stop unless you hide from them they can teleport will phase through the floor attack from the roof and WILL break the doors to get to you. (And the game will give you a reason why Caren can't baracade with the lockers. You first see the mangle duo just straight up throwing a boiler through a wall. Good luck blocking that off.) The only Cue they're in the same room as you is because the babies are crying. Also, the ghost hunters left some hints..

The dogs don't see well. They also like dirt.

The couple don't stop unless forced too. The cat is clearly the brains.

The pink one likes hide and seek she's not good at it.

The goat hums. A lot.

That...thing with the puppet. It is weak to light. Only light. Pur gun made it mad. Our salt didn't trap him. Our tomes made it stronger. For the sake of your immortal soul keep that light strong and bright. We do not know why we hear crying babies. Maybe it's cuase the boogeyman and his toy are here.

Musician's Axe Wondrous item, Common

When you grasp this lute and speak its command word, it transforms into an ordinary Battleaxe and ceases to be magical.

Todays items is a set of two, since both of them as smaller items that arent as dramatic in their effects.

The Coil Whip is that classic imagery of using a whip as a mobility tool, though this ones less "Swinging around" and more grappling-gun. But yeah, you can use it as a way to move around faster and keep in range of enemies. Plus, when attacking objects, you can do so with a range of 15 feet, meaning you could move even faster if you didnt have enemies to attack, or you can transport yourself across greater distances. I actually really like the design of this one because its the sorta thing thats simple but you can be creative with. The first "tech" that comes to mind involves attacking your own allies as opportunity attacks to do weird movement between turns, but I shouldn't go down that line of thinking, its bad form for a homebrew writer to sit there enjoying cheese in their own work. Anyone else though feel free to get weird with it.

As for the Musicians Axe, this one is admittedly just a really lame joke? Or is it even a joke? Well, when I explain within this sentence that, uh, sometimes guitars are called axes, any humour you had with it is now officially dead.

Functionally, its similiar to a veterans cane, really similiar actually, though it in world would have a different social context to how it exists. Its not for your old retired adventurer to suddenly tap their cane and draw a longsword on you, its instead for the more bardy types to have a hidden weapon at hand.

Abomination  - there’s not really a better way to describe than this being Hulk. In human form he ranged attacks with chains and poison (blight). In beast form he’s a hard-hitting melee guy who stresses out his entire team and himself.

Antiquarian - She’s more interested in nabbing treasure than being much use in combat. She likes to chill out at the back, throw some helpful powders, protect herself and demand other people protect her. She uses a censer and a teeny stabby knife that may as well be plastic.

Arbalest - Lady with a crossbow. Happiest at the back, she calls targets and has a mean snipe ability. Applies bandages and helps remove some pesky conditions from allies. In my campaign I called her Hawkeye.

Bounty Hunter - Light armored hard-hitting dude. Works best second in line to a tank, both ranged and melee. He’s good at control, pushing and pulling enemies about, stunning them and smashing them hard. Has an axe and a hook. For my campaign I called him Stark, but that’s mostly because he’s so fully encased in armour it looked apt.

Crusader - The main tanky dude in the game. A paladin, a knight. I called mine Steve. He works best being right at the front but honestly if he gets pushed back he can crack out a lance. Takes a good punch and smites the undead with sword and scroll.

Grave Robber - Swift assassin. Called mine Romanoff. She’s a speedy shifty sort who hurls poison daggers then dashes in for a stabby kill. She can also smack you in the face with a pick. Happiest I’d say in the middle or the back.

Hellion - Tankish lady with a glaive. She’s best at the front but she can handle being pushed back. Was one of my faves and called her Valkyrie in my main game though I haven’t had one of her respawn yet after she tragically died. Great damage and bleeds people.

Highwayman - Pistol and knife dude, works best in the middle to take advantage of both. Reasonable damage. Called mine Bucky. Marks and pushes enemies.

Houndmaster - Beardy dude and his dog. Does look kind of Thorish but I randomly called him Drax. Works best anywhere but at the front. 11/10 good doggo. Marks targets and makes doge nom beasts.

Jester - I wonder who I made be this class :U Musical stabby dude who bounces around the battlefield like a loony. Makes super risky moves then does a hugely powerful murder attack before spending the rest of the battle playing his lute to destress his pals and himself.

Leper - A weirdo loner tank. Called mine Deadpool. Pretty much likes to only stand at the front. Deals a bunch of damage with his sword, buffs himself and pushes enemies back.

Man-at-Arms - Support dude who excels at buffing and guarding allies. Can stand mostly anywhere in the team though good as a second in line. Bashes with mace and can take a beating. Called mine Thor because of his eye patch and he’s good at protec the Loki.

Musketeer - I just got her on a DLC since she was free, only DLC person I have so haven’t experienced her, but she’s apparently like the Arbalest just with a gun instead. Seems to have basically the same skills.

Occultist - He’s literally Dr Strange. Works best middle to back depending on his skills. Does some freaky tentacle pulls and decent stabbings against Eldritch creatures as well as a really good heal that has a downside of making allies bleed. Also debuffs people.

Plague Doctor - Best at the back, this dude (or lady, I mean you can’t see their face so I can go for either) deals in blight grenades, some buffs and conditions on the enemy. Also has a little knife for stabbings if pulled forward.

Vestal - Warrior nun. Functions either as a bashing smiter or as a healer depending on where she moves in the line. Realising I should probably call one Carol.

So there you have it, these are the people you can choose from if you want me to put your muse in the game whenever I get one of your choice. It’s a brutal game so deaths will happen and ridiculously awful and silly things occur.
