I also think part of the problem is that online art communities and to some extent fandom spaces kind of corrode the lines between commercial art and fine art (?) which has observably good and bad results. psychologically the intentions behind creating/posting art become very unclear for both creator and audience… I also think art community discourses end up confusing a lot of people about why somebody would say something like “make art for yourself” honestly this just goes back to how the internet completely obliterates any social context behind a message
#not implying that fine art isn’t created for audiences but it definitely is now#the emphasis is that most digital artists are kind of caught between two worlds I guess#like the commodification of fandom is a result of the digital commodification of social spaces/subculture#now we’re forced to apply commercial rules for personal benefit/fulfillment? hell nooo#would love to hear others thoughts on this#this is gonna be on my mind all day I fear#rather than treating artists who are complaining about likes as clout chasers#it’s crucial that we understand the ramifications of restructuring art communities to fulfill economic incentives through digitization#like we’re ALL losing our minds from this shit
