another one the other night for "searching a blog for 'asexual/ity' can be a handy way to suss out overlapping (& simply parallel, congruous, equivalent etc) ideas in defense of normative gender / sex/uality relationality" when a recommended post from tumblr was a blog w/still the same url of someone who years ago i was like "alright if they do one more bog standard bigotry rhetoric post centered on ace exclusionism" & then they posted sm shit like "smh the asexuals won't consider treatment for their disordered sexuality" on twitter so cracked open the tumblr dropped in my lap again like how are we doing on that. & who knows if there was really anything more recent than '17 (that tweet was, e.g.) but "simply stopped talking about it as much" isn't its own great sign & already they still have up an Original Answered Ask going on for paragraphs & amounting to the ol "tch...ha...ace people are just mad they can't join the cool Gay Club" (evidently how ppl who keep arguing that actually think of queerness. arbiters & gatekeepers indeed of True Queerness, Individual Identity)

meanwhile then it continued b/c like ideally i want tumblr's recommendations to be a barbarous echo chamber of [ < paragraph humorous text posts] but since i guess those are kind of difficult to thread together for varied subj's & generally lack of Short Comedic Text Post tags instead it skews like, image posts, & trying to zoom out on "so you Liked a film gifset ever?" or other too general posts a zillion times. but this is preferable to when it pulls stuff like "ah....Gender keywords, i see" & then starts to show stuff like "here's people who take the system of sexing bodies into a system of performing gender with various levels of subclasses as Inevitable, so what they do Against that is victim blame those also marginalized by this / scapegoat those More marginalized by this than them, which is exactly what Straightforward patriarchy fans are up to, so" like well it's a handful of readily blocked accounts i guess but this is not For Me....in such a way i was like "why is this string of recommended posts getting godawful? what thread is tumblr following here" & once again the revealing power of Discussing Asexuality was the moment like ah right lol. in how, throwback to saying "yeah people who just stopped talking as much / openly about ace exclusionism & its corresponding ideas? feasibly still believe all that but aren't as motivated to Reblog abt it if it's seen as slightly more disruptive a Random Take now if only for being passé" here was someone like "yes truly it was kind of right that asexuality is homophobic" & this post kicked off with some Telling "i think asexuality isn't Valid b/c where's the class analysis" (any class relations in normative sexuality, which excludes asexuality? anyone?) & led on to the banger "& i've always hated the idea of 'amatonormativity' b/c when someone jokes Love Loses that's obviously Homophobia" like that's right. Love Wins & Romance is being gay which i guess is the legitimate Class Issue of sexuality, noticed umm gay people are shitted on i guesss....this continued into more similarly "if only everyone else was on my level of Analysis & Rigor. instead of being Stupid smh" scintillating posts like night out at portland so trash it ruined my jackoff 16 hours later, long ass nightmare, three pages at marksist lennonist tumblr so trash it ruined my waking up 16 hrs later, long ass nightmare....to be sure something Educational in wading through some various granular details of [our very own arguments] there but god is it dismal

I hate to tell you this, but those arguments took place on the TTV boards, which were overwhelmingly pro-contest. They were so pro-contest that Eljay, who doesn’t really engage with the fandom outside of the boards, Twitter, and maybe the YouTube comments section on TTV’s own videos, earnestly believed that there were like... ten people who genuinely wanted them to stop.

The Anti-contest crowd have been mostly sequestered in off-site areas like Discord servers where the order of the day was usually “What stupid shit is the thread arguing about now?”

Arguably the hottest bed of it was the r/bioniclelego server, and there was a pretty strong “Yeah the sword argument is fucking stupid, if you won’t wanna make the sword custom, just stick an Air Saber on it and call it a day” current.

The anti-contest crowd didn’t make the Hagah take forever, that’s purely on TTV going radio silent during the production of the “Every Set Ever” video. At most, you could say that SubParFauxPas deleting his own audit of the entries slowed things down, but not by much.

And yeah, the MoD talks slowed things down, but... TTV didn’t have to get involved with those. Meso himself made it clear that they wanted to after MoD’s survey showed that most of the community did want the contests to continue, but weren’t satisfied with the way they were run.

And TBH if those count as “Slowing everything down” then so should Meso spending the past week playing Destiny instead of setting up Tuyet.

I can assure you there wasn’t some grand anti-contest conspiracy to bog things down, because most of the anti-contest crowd are anti-contest because they don’t like doing more retcons. It’s the lore nuts and canon sticklers that wanted more who sit on TTV’s boards and hurl Greg quotes at each other’s entries, people like Jerminator who freely admitted that they want more Greg Lore and were given an auditor role by TTV themselves.

I think the anti-contest crowd won today, unfortunately. Not just because the contests ended, but because they ended with only three done, because they were able to successfully piss away all the time we had by generating endless, pointless, circular fucking arguments over what counts as a Metru torso and whether Tuyet's sword should have barbs or not. It's all the stupid unimportant detail shit that defines the worst aspects of Curative fandom that I had hoped we could overcome in time, but that they successfully weaponized to drag these out as agonizingly slowly as possible and make into an exhausting ordeal what should have been a fun community revival. I hope you're fucking happy, assholes.
