Last Part

Liam finds her standing outside, hiding from the rain underneath the extended rooftop. He didn’t even look for her, yet there he was: leaning against the brick wall while lighting up a cigarette, contemplating whether or not he should approach her. What a fucking stupid déjà vu. He scoffs while his heart beats violently against his ribcage. She always had this effect on him, there was no denying that.

He sighs, before eventually walking up to her:” You’re alright, Princess?”, he mutters while putting the coffin nail between his lips. He watches how she shakes her head:” Can’t believe you have the nerve to call me that.”

“Right, sorry.”, he mumbles, while he turns his head. He watches how big raindrops fall to the ground and disappear down the drain:” Force of habit, I guess.” Y/N however doesn’t answer, something is lingering in the air and neither one of them knows if it’s hatred or longing. Maybe both have always been the same.

The singer takes another step toward her, holding his breath while he waits for some reaction. But when she doesn’t move away, he inspects her features for any signs of softness. There have to be some left. “Look.”, he starts:” I- I am sorry about earlier. I didn’t mean to act like a jealous dickhead. Seeing you again just brought back some memories, it’s-.”

“What memories?”

“Memories of us.”

Y/N closes her eyes and scoffs:” It’s been over twenty years, Liam.” Her voice is quiet and peaceful, but it sounds rather forced than anything else. The man in front of her takes an uneasy drag of his cigarette before answering:” I know. I know. It’s been such a long time and I know I shouldn’t care- but I do. Makes me wonder what could’ve been.”

Y/N furrows her eyebrows as she runs a hand through her hair:” This is unbelievable.” “What? Don’t have any feelings left for me? After everything we’ve been through you’re just apathetic like that?” At this point, he is almost a hundred percent sure that he’s going to suffer a heart attack- or possibly a stroke. Perhaps even both at the same time.

“How are the children?”, Y/N asks, tearing her gaze off the man. There’s a smile forming on his lips, and for a second he doesn’t care about the quick change in topic:” They’re good, yeah. All grown up now, can you believe that?” Y/N chuckles, while staring at her nails:” Happy for you.” Liam’s smile fades away when he suddenly remembers that she doesn’t have any of her own. Was that his fault? He can almost see the wall between the two of them; tall and thick.

“Can we talk? Properly?”

“About what?”, her voice is suddenly foreign and he catches a glimpse of how another brick is put on top of it. “About us.”, he replies and tosses the finished cigarette into a puddle, the rain consumes the grey smoke:” There’s just some stuff left unsaid- we need to sort that bullshit out.”

“Need to sort it out?”, she recites staring at him with wide eyes:” Now?! God, fuck, this is so pathetic!”, she laughs out loud but it sounds rather panicky. “Why is it so pathetic?!”, Liam retorts, he is putting his heart on a platter and she just throws it on the dirty ground all together:” You’re telling me you don’t regret a single thing?”

Y/N annoyingly blinks at him:” Of course, I have regrets, Liam. Fuck you! Remember how I tried to talk to you and you fucking ignored my calls?!” She shoves him away from her, while hot tears arise in her eyes:” Fuck you. Two months later you had your ex knocked up with your oldest. How do you think I felt when I read that in the papers?!”

Liam sighs and leans back against the wall, he crosses his arms and looks down at the woman he thought he’d marry one day. Everyone thought he would.

“You moved on like it was nothing, Liam.”, Y/N’s voice is unstable. She walks past him towards the exit and quickly opens the door:” Goodbye, Liam.”

“I didn’t.”

If the rain hadn’t stopped falling, she probably wouldn’t have heard him. She lets the door fall shut again:” What?” Her head twists in his direction and her eyes linger on his back. The green parka almost looks brown.

“I didn’t move on from you. Why do ya think all my relationships have failed?“, he scoffs:” I’ve tried everything to get over you; alcohol, drugs… women. You know… it never worked.” He lights himself a new cigarette:” Nothing ever worked.”

Y/N doesn’t answers she simply just stares.

Y/N walks back to her original place in front of him, while holding her hand out. Liam follows her gaze and hands her the cigarette when he realizes what she’s asking for:” That’s it? No shouting?” “Do you want me to yell at you?”, she raises an eyebrow at him.

Liam moves closer, his eyes are scanning her features. They move over every wrinkle, yet he couldn’t imagine thinking anyone could ever be more beautiful. “I don’t care. And I know deep down you don’t care either. Otherwise you wouldn’t be standing here with me.” There’s some truth to that and Y/N is very much aware of it. Another thing she is painfully conscious of is how close the two of them are standing together. “No one.”, he mutters:” No one has ever come close to making me feel the way you did.”

Bez never was particularly confident with himself, and it wasn't even his fault.

It began during middle school, when he used to get teased and joked about because of his way of expressing himself and the great sensitivity he had towards everything.

If he scraped his knee, tripped and fell or simply felt overwhelmed he'd cry, and that got him not a few comments.

"Marco don't you know boys don't cry?"

"But I hurt myself of course I cry"

"Look guys Marco is crying like a girl!"

"But I'm not a girl, I'm just hurt!" "Boys don't cry when they're hurt!"

And obviously since then he had grown mentally, he still cried, but tried to hide it more, that bit to ensure people wouldn't think he was weak for doing it.

And apart from that, Bez has always been a lover. A great one at that.

He always gave his 200% in every little thing in every relationship, no matter how much he had been together with his current partner.

His partner mentioned liking a certain type of flower on the first date or while talking on chat?

He would show up the date after with a bouquet with those flowers.

Food? He'd make sure to learn how to cook it or inform himself on where they did it better in the city and have the date there.

Dates, anniversaries, birthdays, he remembers everything.

He feels, no, knows, that if he forgets even one of these things whoever he's with will leave him.

He tries to be perfect, do everything, but they always end up leaving for someone else. Someone prettier, taller, funnier, someone better.

When he and Marc got together, it was unexpected.

They began gravitating closer and closer until collision and after some rough months of not knowing they finally got together for real.

And he still can't believe Marc Marquez is his boyfriend.

Because Marc is MARC, he's so perfect and beautiful and funny and amazing and Bez is, well Bez.

He's got nothing great about him, no one nicknamed him alien, no one was scared of confronting him on track. And Marc had dated Vale. So he had a big competition to relate to.

He tries so so hard to be perfect, each day more, learn about everything Marc loves and hates, understand how to make him relax or make him happy. But it simply doesn't seem to work.

Everything he does, for how perfect it can be, doesn't seem to trill the reaction he wants out of Marc.

He always looks so monotone with his answers and expressions, like Bez is doing the bare minimum, while he's trying so hard for everything.

One day he simply cannot take it anymore, he's already overwhelmed and he's trying to make a good looking Paella for lunch, asking Marc how it is, and all he gets is "yeah it's ok".

It doesn't have to be ok. it has to be perfect.

He knows he's about to cry and can't let Marc see him being so pathetic, so he excuses himself and runs off to the bedroom, breath caught in his throat as a river of tears flows from his eyes to the ground.

It's just a fucking dish but it's too much.

Why can't he do anything right for Marc?

What does he have to do?

He's sobbing too loud, and only realizes when Marc basically breaks open the door to the bedroom.

Marc is frozen, because that's a lot, and Marco seems to be on the edge of a mental breakdown, and he doesn't know if he's capable of helping him.

He can just try and reassure him.

Bez nods, his tears not hinting to a stop.

"You aren't - God I can't believe I have to say it - you aren't doing anything wrong, all the opposite of wrong! You are being so caring and so perfect. Why would you think you’re doing or saying something wrong? There’s absolutely nothing wrong in what you’re doing corazon, not in the slightest. And what - what has Valentino got to do with us? Marco Valentino is something I managed to bury in the past thanks to you, I’d never want you to be like him. He was - he was not what I needed, he was infatuation, you are not, you have to be you, never someone else.

You are enough already Marco, why would you ever think you’re not? You’re enough and so much more.

Bez can’t understand this shift in attitude. Marc is always somewhat distant and cold, with him like with everyone else.

“You don’t look like I do enough Marc. You always seem so distant from me, from what I do, from what I say and then I see how you were with Vale, how warm you were with him, how you laughed at everything he said, even the stupid jokes who weren’t funny, how you always looked for physical touch and how you gave it so openly and I want it to be like that for us but you just - you are just so cold.

If I try to hug you you flinch, you never initiate physical contact, you barely laugh at my jokes, I - I asked for the recipe to that Paella to your mother to make it look like home to you and you said it was ‘ok’ and I simply don’t understand why. Why were you so alive with him and with me the light in your eyes seems dead? I know I’m not the great world champion but I’m trying so hard, and I love the sport and I also love you and neither you nor the sport seem to love me back.

Marc is sitting on the floor in front of Bez, looking at his boyfriend looking absolutely broken and desperate for an answer and his heart clenches.

He sees the pain, the doubt, the insecurity rise in his eyes and it hurts.

In a split second he’s next to him, hugging him tightly, like he probably only hugged Alex before in his life, he stays there, an embrace that doesn’t solve anything, Marc knows, but to Bez is the last drop.

He cries again, a lot, soaking Marc’s shirt, he can’t seem to stop, not when Marc keeps holding him so tight.

Once he’s calmed down, almost ten minutes later, he is a mess.

“Marco, I don't even know where to begin from. Valentino was something else entirely, he was my idol growing up, I grew up watching him win and triumph, we started whatever that was when I was 20 and I was a much different person you’re right. I was warm and innocent and under this spell Valentino had on me. It wasn’t love, it was adoration. That’s why I was like that, I wanted to be noticed, wanted to be seen, wanted to be considered.

The warmth it- I changed a lot. I had crashes, accidents, I had my heart broken, I got thrown to the media like a sheep to a pack of wolves when I was your age and it changed me. I don’t feel like I can be anything but cold and distant because I fear so much it’ll end up like with him.

And rationally I know you aren’t like him, but my head, it just- it works like that, I don’t feel like I can allow myself to be vulnerable because last time I did I was left so wounded I didn’t think I would’ve ever been able to be back on my feet.

The hugs Marco, it’s complicated. I love your hugs, really, but you need to understand something. During the last period of me and Valentino being what we where he got - not violent, never that - cruel. His touch was bruising, I felt it on me after hours, I couldn’t wash off that sensation of being dirty. It felt like every little touch he gave me, every hug was never just that, it was always leading to something he wanted from me.

And when you hug me so suddenly my brain runs back to when he grabbed me after races or podiums to go and have a quickie in some godforsaken corner of the track and it’s not that I didn’t like them but sometimes I just wanted tenderness and there wasn’t any. I know you’re different, I know, but he damaged me, and I don’t want you to be the one to repair me, because it’s a lot of fucking work and I want to do it myself, you don’t deserve the mess I am.

I should be the one to understand if you want to break up, because I’m a lot, and because I don’t treat you right. I love you Marco, never doubt that, I love you, and I’m sure the sport will love you back, because I know you’re giving it your all, it’ll come, it will love you back”

Bez now doesn’t cry anymore, he just feels a great impulse to hug Marc tight to let him know he’s there for him, but after what he just said he can’t.

“It’s not that I don’t want your hugs, but if you ask me before, or just let me know about it I won’t flinch like that”

“Can I hug you then? You look like you need it”

“Yeah, you can”

He wraps his arms around Marc, not like Marc did with him before, this is much softer, he lets Marc have his space while being also surrounded by Marco’s warmth.

“I’m sorry for what you went through with Vale. It’s not right. I’m also sorry for everything I said about you back then, about Valencia last year I’m sorry”

“Marco you have nothing to apologize for, you grew up with an idol, you followed what he said, it’s pretty normal to do, and you have managed to be different so there’s nothing to be sorry for ok?”

“Ok”

“And I’m not going anywhere, I’m not leaving you now that I found stability in my life. And I’m never going to let you think you’re not enough ever again, I am the one who’s sorry for acting like that. I promise for you I’ll be different”

Marc smiles, this time is genuine, Bez can see it in the way his eyes glint with that something he tried to reach for.

khatri is so repressed gay priest coded to me that i actually forget that's not a canon plot point most of the time

to me he's constantly having sexual thoughts about boyd that he is sooo deeply ashamed of, mostly because he believes that boyd is straight and would change the way he sees him if he knew

in any case with the dead wife situation boyd's got going on it's definitely just easier to push any lustful thoughts aside. until jade shows up :)

yall khatri was soo sweet and caring with jade!! and his reaction when jade flirted with him while high? kristi rolled her eyes, boyd slapped him away, but khatri had a fucking experience there, you cannot change my mind

it might have been the first time in his life that another guy openly called him beautiful or looked at him like that. or it might also have reminded him of a boyfriend he had or almost had in his youth. take your pick. both work

also, we cannot ignore that jade is a really attractive guy and that he's literally handcuffed in this scene. it's such a peak meet cute come on look at them. look at their hands

now, i can see khatri going to check up on jade the next morning or a few days later. jade is completely alone after all so i feel like khatri would tell him that he can stop by the church if he wants. jade would just laugh it off and then be like oh you're actually being serious?

but he would go. not for his own sake but because tobey was catholic or something and he was kind of losing his mind when they buried him so he didn't get to give a proper goodbye. khatri does a little funeral service just for him and jade is a mess afterwards

they would sit and talk and khatri would ask him if tobey was his partner and jade would feel safe enough with khatri to explain the complexities of their situationship. khatri would share some of his own memories about loving other men in return

khatri is basically resigned to eternal unhappiness tm but jade is clingy and needy and entitled so he would find excuses to see khatri all the time. i stand by my belief that khatri couldve fixed jade. imo most of jade's bratty attitude comes from being defensive against what he percieves as threats but with khatri i think he would just feel safe to be himself

jade would obviously have a big problem with khatri being resigned to unhappiness tm and i think he would just rope him into projects like he did with jim and tabitha

they would have a lot of discussions about religion where jade would be a total prick but khatri would humor him because jade clearly needs the venting session and because khatri can really use a lighthearted break from his internal monologue of guilt and shame. symbiosis

obviously people would talk because it would make no damn sense. why is a priest going around collecting car engine parts

and indeed a big part of why they're spending time together at all is because they enjoy each other's company. just like with boyd the situation doesn't really work in their favor because jade is not really thinking about anything besides finding a way out of the town

one day some people are looking at them a little weird and jade knows that look so he gets really worked up and yells something like "yeah i'm fucking your priest if that's what you wanna know, can you move along now?"

as soon as he turns back to khatri he realises that he really fucked up, though. once they're alone in private jade apologises and admits that he said that because he kind of wishes he was fucking the priest but "listen, that's not the point, the point is that i'm really sorry, i shouldn't have said that, and i shouldn't have said that here, and... fuck"

"i'm just sorry, alright?" before leaving the church while feeling terrible for having fucked up that bad. sadly i think they... wouldn't really get to fix it? since jade would be getting sucked deeper into the whole visions situation around this time and khatri has the whole deal with sara going on

which is another reason why khatri would shut jade away. maybe jade would go try to fix things and ask to come in and khatri would have to tell him no. because he literally has his best friend's murderer locked up in the basement LMAO

It’s like this curse I’ve placed on myself? Every time I get angry or upset or emotional, or just about do anything that isn’t what aligns with what they want the response is “you’re a psychologist, you should change the way you think” “people are going to sit in your office and say something and you’ll end up crying instead.” “if you’re so sensitive how will you become a psychologist?”. Another instance is that I’ve always been a picky eater and it was never an issue, but ever since I started uni it’s been a constant “you’re a psychologist. why don’t you like this? please, fix yourself” as if I didn’t hate those foods since I was like 7 or 8. I can’t understand if I’m truly overreacting or not.

Whatever I started out of self interest and (however limited) passion is now twisting into hate and anger. In the beginning I used that energy to continue with spite and prove them wrong but I genuinely dont have the bandwidth to deal with it for another 4 or 5 years, especially considering we’re not a culture that moves out of the house.

So bakugo, right? Middle school bully, had a redemption arc, yatta yatta. I personally think that there are a certain group of people hate him for his bullying a little TOO much, y'know? Quality of the redemption arc aside, when he had that big moment and apologized, people were fucking mad that izuku forgave him lmao. First off, ofc izuku forgave him, its fucking izuku, what did you expect. And at that point in the series you cannot deny his character development, whether you think that development is enough is a separate issue, he still developed. But what I'm getting at is some peoples reactions were a bit... to much for what it is. "He's a still a piece of shit" "he doesn't deserve forgiveness for what he did" "all he did was say sorry😒" and like, it feels like yall are projecting a little bit. We get it, you were bullied in school, no one is asking you to forgive your bullies. But the way they talk about this fictional child who would’ve been a middle schooler at the time of the crime is concerning. I am not a bakugo defender, I'm genuinely worried about these people lowkey. You get what I'm saying?

Honestly I'm lowkey really conflicted when it comes to Bakugo's character arc because like. It's got some BALLER moments. Deku and Bakugo vs All Might? Awesome. Deku vs Bakugo 2? Incredible. The loss on the PLE and subsequent moment w the kiddos? Amazing. And yes this DOES include the apology. Maybe we should call Izuku out for being such a fucking doormat that he let Bakugo walk all over him IN UA, maybe we should call the rest of the class and the teachers out for never doing anything (apart from the final exam and giving detention to them after their fight) about it and just going "tee hee Bakugo's such a silly little guy :3", but ultimately those are greater story and character flaws* that don't impact how fucking good the apology is.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

I’ll tell you if you promise not to get mad at me💔

A big chunk of the fandom wrongly views him as the Capitalism Incarnated, while he is quite obviously simply a product of the psychopathy breeding system. Jack’s psychopathy is a reaction to a crime that is uniquely capitalistic. Angel’s kidnapping is a crime of greed. He is, as every Borderlands character, uniquely traumatised by the world he was born into. Borderlands shows what capitalism does to men. Jack is not much different from the psychos/bandits of Pandora. For both, the planet is a prison. Psychos choose to assimilate, and Jack chooses to destroy it. He is the universal threat; neither the poor Pandorians nor the elite are safe from him. 

But does the distinction matter? I believe so. This affects the narrative as a whole. 

We can choose to see Jack as Capitalism, and we get to kill him, and then we all go out for milkshakes. Simple and up-lifting, and very American. But to me, Borderlands is largely pessimistic. Honest people die, the leaders are either cowardly or evil, and the oppressed are often gross, stupid, and difficult to sympathise with. And we cannot kill capitalism, so we kill a scapegoat in its place. The world of Borderlands is fixed: Jack’s death does not affect the status quo; it only frees the tyrant spot for the new, yet-to-come aggressor. This is less satisfying, isn’t it.

(Possibly I am overanalysing a silly shooter game that isn't concerned with a critique of capitalism/colonialism deeper than a simple and straightforward “It is very bad.”)

And despise is a strong word. Interpret him however you want. What I truly despise is haters going "Why are you Jack's apologist?" because he activates my maternal instincts! Next question.

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I have soo many so I'll just drop a few here that I haven't talked about before mkay <3

Uncharacteristically (and unsurprisingly) squeamish about burnt flesh. Nisha once brought him a scorched hand after some village burning (it looked kinda funny she thought it would make him laugh how was she suppose to know he is so goddamn sensitive) and he started gagging when she dropped it on his desk. When she gets really mad at him, she dumps some burnt remains at his apartment (she loves him dearly btw)

He journals a lot. Partially because, in his opinion, it is a very Great Leader activity, but also because Angel cannot pry into what he has written down on the pages. He knows this deeply annoys her. She can see everything, and she knows everything except for her father's thoughts. Sometimes Jack makes Angel echo him and patiently wait while he finishes his entry to really rub it in. He sometimes draws her.

I hope this is comprehensible. Part of Jack’s mythos being that he only has scars on his front, kinda like Alexander the Great, because a real hero always bravely faces his enemies. But actually, his back is a mess of scars from childhood. Wouldn’t that be fucked up?? All his fanatics are like "Erm, Jack would never ever let anybody get him from behind because he is SUPER cool and smart, and he never runs away from a fight <33" I think this would add to his inferiority complex.

I am curious about the particular tasks that felt too much for you, if you remember any on the spot.

I haven't seen the episode, where four people were playing tag, but that does isolate them..? Also Pearl's goose chase task was definitely lacking, but Lizzie finding it was fun. I did like Pearl's butler task, and the whole dragon fight. Cleo's pig task was funny, but painful. I probably forgot all the more boring ones, and well, the red name tasks were kinda lacking a lot and took more trouble than reward. With them repeating constantly and limiting players as to what they can do.

I liked most of wildcards, but it did feel like all the server was always running around in two big groups or there were huge people events, where multiple people have the same exact footage. The reaction to snails was mostly screaming, and even the superpowers, which were individual for every player, you could still watch one person and see most of the powers and the person's first reaction to it. It's just my pet peeve, because I genuinely want to watch other people's POVs, but I don't like rewatching things and it feels like a lot of other videos had similar things.

It's not actually that big of a problem and doesn't include all the POVs, mostly a big difference from the Secret Life, and other seasons had some sort of scheming or accidental things that happened as everyone were against everyone, so you couldn't know where the other hit will come from. Like, I'm talking about the 5Gs and Matren(?), and Family and Bamboozers and kinda Tuff guys(?), idk where Spanners were on the chart. But yeah, it felt sometimes like the server had 2 and a half teams. Not saying it's true, they all had inner betrayals and fights. More of a personal expression it made on me as I was watching.

I'm just curious what you liked about Wild Life, because a lot of people weren't as invested in it (even purely based on a few CC's view counts being less than usual for life series). And at the time of Secret Life coming out, there were a lot of people criticizing tasks and there was a problem of backsitting and insisting that someone actually succeeded or failed the task, because of one little thing. It did feel kinda shitty to hear people hate on something that affected you a lot. But I do get the points of how some things might have been not thought out properly, just like snails being maybe a tad too fast and preventing people from focusing on doing anything else. It feels frustrating, when your death feels so unwarranted, you weren't given a chance to fight back. If you starved to death, because you couldn't find the thing to eat it's better, like, you understand that you should have tried more things or didn't pay attention to your food and health bar.

Honestly, I don’t have a ton of opinions on many of the tasks themselves, sorry. I did think that they were sometimes imbalanced, such as Scott’s “I love you” task feeling WAY too easy, especially for someone like Scott, and that others were kind of unclear. One task that I wasn’t really a fan of was Etho’s weeping angel task, since it was pretty much impossible for Etho to know when someone was looking at him. It was a really fun idea; it just wasn’t a great task in practice when Etho also had to make an interesting video. There were lots of times when Etho moved, even if only a little bit, when he didn’t realize someone was looking at him or when someone very suddenly turned to look at him. It was all ruled as fine, of course, but the wording of the task meant that Etho technically failed the task, which just wouldn’t have felt fair in the context of the Life Series. I think I’m personally more forgiving about many of the less interesting tasks because I cannot for the life of me imagine coming up with I believe over 200 tasks, since there had to be a hard task prepared for each player in case everyone rerolled for a hard task in the same session, and manage to make them all interesting, possible, difficult enough, and socially focused. Even with the audience’s help, sorting through all of those suggestions weekly must have been stressful and difficult. However, my main concern is the fact that everyone had to keep their tasks secret from everyone unless otherwise specified, which kept the teams really divided. I do think that the gimmick was really cool. It was just unfortunate that we got such unique teams who often couldn’t really communicate as to what they planned to do that session or sometimes even how their teammates could help. During Secret Life, BigB teamed up with Tango, who he had never teamed with before, and Skizz, who he never really interacted with while Skizz was in less of a lackey role. Impulse and Scott had never teamed before, and I’m pretty sure that was Impulse’s first time teaming with someone outside of his typical social circle on a more intimately sized team. It was Gem’s first time as a main cast player, and Mumbo and Lizzie were main cast players for the first time in a while. For Lizzie, it wouldn’t have really mattered, because she was by herself. However, I would’ve liked to have seen the others be allowed to be a little more free with their teammates. I did really like Secret Life, especially because the ending had so many parallels to past seasons, but the social aspect was different in a way that didn’t click with my personal tastes quite as much as I might’ve liked, which is fine. I know other people really loved Secret Life, and I’m happy for them.

For me, Wild Life was fantastic, but I liked it so much out of personal taste, not necessarily because I thought it was perfect (though it is MY perfect baby. personally). Every episode other than the finale felt like the opening episode of a new series, where everyone’s just trying to figure out how to use the new gimmick to their advantage or at least how to survive it, and that was really exciting for me. I love that kind of stuff.

I hadn’t thought too much about it before, but I do see what you mean about people tending to be in large groups throughout each session. I can definitely understand how that would be frustrating for you, seeing as, yeah, a lot of the content in different POVs ended up being repetitive. This probably was one of the contributors to lower view counts for some creators. I really liked it, because it was nice to see everyone interacting in such big groups. I feel like we don’t get to see that too often, and it made following the series a little easier for me, who was really busy throughout Wild Life and just didn’t have much time to watch every episode every Saturday and had to spread them out throughout the week, which was like a little treat everyday! 🥰🍦 Of course, spacing the episodes out made them less repetitive to me, since I just had more time between episodes and a lot of other things going on between episodes.

Seeing the server divide itself into like two and a half teams was really funny to me. 😭 I understand how that might seem less interesting, but it made me laugh and cheer every time someone joined the Gs, even if it was only temporary. I just wanted to see how big of a team we could get. There were like 9 people allied with the Gs in total, excluding finale zombies of course, and I imagine them having awkward extended-family dinner together. I think that part of the reason why the alliances were kind of confusing in Wild Life was a distinct lack of communication or trust between some of the teams. The Spanners, the Tuff Guys, and InTheLittleMound (Lake?) in particular had difficulty communicating amongst themselves who they were allied with and who they were enemies with, especially when some episodes were particularly dense with action.

A lot of the deaths feeling unfair makes sense. I can totally see that. Plus, having a brand new thing every session is bound to cause some deaths just from not knowing what’s going on, especially if the session gimmick is inherently dangerous, such as the snails (even though they were SO CUTE and could never do wrong in my eyes). Pearl’s first death in particular was unfair in my eyes, just cause, though it made so much sense logistically, almost no one in the moment would’ve thought of the shrinking player hit box affecting shifting, such a trusted and well-worn mechanic in the vanilla game. However, I think that Grian giving everyone 6 lives, giving the fallen players a way to participate in some episodes, and providing a way for players to get their lives back during the early and middle sessions was a pretty good balance.

Another thing I liked about Wild Life was the teams. I know some people were upset by some of the teams, but the Gs were a long time coming anyway. It was nice to see Scott, Cleo, and Pearl finally get to be all on the same team, and Impulse (and BigB. And Etho. And eventually Ren. And technically Mumbo and Skizz at least at one point) was a fantastic addition. I enjoyed seeing Ren and Martyn together again, and isolated, at that. I know they’ve been wanting to spend more time together, and seeing them be silly and free made me smile. The Bamboozlers were obviously a fan favorite, and for good reason. I hadn’t realized how much fun Lizzie and Scar would be on the same team. The Spanners made me happy, because it was the first time Skizz wasn’t on a team with anyone in his typical Life Series circle in 5 seasons (4 if you exclude Double Life, since he wasn’t in it). I had also been hoping for Mumbo to team with Skizz just so that Mumbo could see up close that Scar actually does have competition amongst the players who tend to die faster than others. 😭 The Tuff Guys was fun for me because the DRAMA. Those three men could not get along for five seconds. The HORSE DRAMA. Tango having to deal with the HORSE DRAMA. That’s cinema to me. And then, of course, there was the Family. My goodness was it awesome to see Gem and Joel on a team together. They work so well together, and I’m so proud of them.

Wild Life kept the players on their toes every episode, and I have full faith that Grian would have made changes accordingly if someone involved was genuinely upset by something in their episode, especially with how he, Impulse, and Skizz were talking about how Grian checked in with the group after every single session. If the players had a lot of fun and feel well looked after in their social space, then I have a hard time complaining about it. Seeing them excited made me really happy. When Grian talked about how “Wild Life was like Christmas every week, because I got to show off these gifts I worked so hard on to all of my friends”, it really struck a chord with me. Working hard on something for your friends and seeing them react excitedly to it is one of my favorite feelings in the world. Going into each episode knowing that Grian felt that way is a huge part of what made Wild Life so wonderful to me.

It breaks my heart when I see people saying that Wild Life was boring or that the gimmicks were awful (not your criticisms, anon. I mean people who barely gave the season a chance and had nothing constructive to say). I know that Grian put so much work into each mechanic, often to the point where it would consume almost his whole week. He’s fine, I know, but I do wish that these almost mini-gimmicks that Grian and his wonderful team put so much love into had been received a little kinder, especially when they only had so much time to prepare for the more impromptu mechanics and still managed to craft some, in my opinion, pretty impressive results for the circumstances.

A lot of people’s criticisms concerning Wild Life are completely valid in my eyes. It just so happened to have hit a lot of my favorite tropes, and the parts that people take issue with just so happen to be things that I’m not personally too concerned with. Do I think it’s the best season ever? Not particularly. If I had to spend a lot of time considering what the best season is, I would probably say Limited Life, which was my favorite season before Wild Life. Wild Life just happens to be almost fine tuned to my taste, though I understand other people not liking it so much. Wild Life was a season of wonder and play and holding on to each other during uncertain times. That’s really important to me.

I'm assuming.) . granted we also have like. whirlwind and shockwave and seismic who are the other elementals and they don't actually have an endbringer counterpart BUT IM !!!! going a little crazy thinking about like. if tide + his siblings are artificial capes, what if they (or at least he and magma because I'm kind of thinking abt them as the older ones. havent listened to the oneshot in a while so this may not be accurate) were given their powers SPECIFICALLY to be counters to the endbringers. or at least in an attempt to make a cape equivalent of the endbringers to better like... study their powerset or something. (I keep saying cauldron studies things bc I said that with david too and this really just comes from my inherent need for a big evil science team. in worm it seems like they're more capitalism focused but let a guy dream here)

anyway anyway anyway. tldr; tide and magma were specifically created as parallels to leviathan and behemoth, this wouldn't really be common knowledge to the rest of the capes bc of cauldrons secrecy BUT i think ppl would definitely notice the similarities in their powersets and that makes a subconscious fear response in people who have seen an endbringer attack firsthand (I believe in scary intimidating tide supremacy but then you talk to him and he's the sweetest human being in the whole world) . tide and magma both know this and have complicated emotions about it. I think tide has a very bad reaction to the leviathan attack if we are keeping that as an event that happens.

Okay so this gave me Big Feelings, so I’m sorry it took so long to reply to!

Spoilers for Untarnished under the cut

Wild can see the First. He is a cat, after all, and cats are creatures of the borders, so when the Chain first goes into that little antechamber he sees the First sitting there at the same time as Wind. he’s maybe a little less subtle in his immediate reaction, but Wind stamps on his foot and stops him from being weird about it until the rest of the Chain leaves.

They speak to the First together. Well, Wind talks, Wild rumbled sympathetically and nods in all the right places, signing where he can. (The first is totally unfazed by Wild. He’s from an ancient time, after all, and knows what the zonai are. Why, Orville himself was 1/36 Zonai, he says)They both swear to try and help him. They go to the Chain together and plead his case, and with both of them together there is less initial doubt.

Wild, of course, cannot tell the First his story that night, but he still goes to sit with him. He knows he isn’t much for company, but he figures it’s better to be there and quietly getting on with his maintenance jobs than leaving his new brother alone.

The First can scarcely believe it. Millennia after millennia of loneliness and now here are two people who can see him, who want to spend time with him.

When they go to Wild’s world the Chain finds out the truth: he’s not actually a giant cat bro but actually a hylian in disguise. They can’t change him back, but it’s good to know.

The rest of that encounter goes much the same, the little frox, the bargainer statue, the guardian. They get the luminous stone and move on.

Back in skyloft, wild spends more time with the First, who is suitably surprised to find out that he is actually a hylian in a cursed body.

And by suitably surprised, I mean that he finds it hilarious. Wild doesn’t mind - I t’s nice to see the first link smiling. Plus, it is pretty funny.

After the attack on skyloft and the First’s disastrous attempt to warn the chain, Wild is with Wind when he finds him on the floor. There’s not much that he can do to help, but he sits with him for hours, trying to give him comfort. Wind and wild usually sleep in with the First, Wild on his bedroll on the floor, wind sprawled on top of him.

When they return for the funeral, Wild is immediately able to see how much stronger the First is and purrs in delight.

He is also able to see, after the battle with Demise, how terrible the First’s wounds really are. He cries beside Wind and tries to hold his hand. He can’t, of course. The first is a ghost, and such things are impossible.

When the First is cured and about to go to the funeral, he hugs both wild and wind, and he’s glad that he got to feel Wild’s fur before he went. he gives wind the earrings, and he gives Wild the golden pin he used to keep his scarf secure.

They both hug back, and it’s like being a family.

At the funeral Wild’s contribution is still the luminous stone, but he also leaves something zonai. Maybe the belt similar to his own from the Zonite set, or something similar. He’s tearful as he leaves it, and the First feels a well of emotion.

Both Wild and Wind cry when he goes.

my evening scully and mulder time has arrived!!! i read the synopsis of the episode- that they investigate a shapeshifting Indigenous creature- and (correctly) made the guess that things would be. well. appropriation-y.

the first thing i wrote was "roarrrrr a bear", this is because we see a taxidermy bear. hope that clears up any confusion.

the old man looks like mark twain. which is a normal thing to notice about a guy.

the son of mark twain guy- who shot a creature that turned out to be a man- pulls our duo aside and mentions how he knows their story doesn't make sense. i admired this self-aware move. most of the people who give mulder and scully their evidence are less willing to admit that it's kinda unlikely they really got abducted by aliens or saw bigfoot or whatever. so he won me over in this way.

scully's annoyed because she thinks it's just a homicide and says there's NOTHING unusual about this... and at that very moment mulder rolls up with a big piece of skin like "nope. nothing weird at all". count on him to find that. seems just like the thing he'd do. spooky mulder and all.

they go to a bar on the reservation to try and find the sheriff and learn more, but are met with a chilly reception due to the fact that they are working for the US government. but we see the dead guy's sister and she is very pretty as well as an old man that mulder talks to about shapeshifting.

"i want to believe" <- HE SAID THE LINE!!!!!

when they go to check the guy's body, mulder gets on the ground and opens the deceased's mouth to reveal: he has fangs!!!!!!!! which is probably the first time mulder looking in a dead guy's mouth has found anything useful! but certainly not the last.

at this point scully is weirded tf out because like. he knew to look for the skin AND jumped straight to the dead guy's teeth and she says mulder, you had best tell me what is going on right NOW. and we get a lore reveal!!! he knows all this because a similar case was the... drumroll please...

VERY! FIRST! X-FILE!!!!!

everyone cheered and clapped and pointed at the screen.

everyone EXCEPT scully, that is. because she is pissed that he would propose people can turn into animals. she got so mad that she got out of the car and left. this reaction is likely why mulder did not tell her about his hunch in the first place, but really can you blame her? she is a doctor. that profession is too busy to deal with werewolves.

they had giant umbrellas in almost every scene of this episode. oh, to be tromping around the pacific northwest adjacent era, hunting for clues in the rain... how atmospheric!

scully says she's very sorry to the murdered man's sister. not much to note here beyond that it was a kind thing to do.

there's a scene where someone turns into a wolf creature and pummels mark twain man and it looked remarkably similar to the attack my werewolf character in skyrim performs, which made me laugh. the "lunge and rip the person apart" technique must be universal to werewolf media across the land.

scully finds mark twain guy's son hurt in a field and takes him to the hospital! that was very kind of her but: i don't like it when our duo splits up. i enjoy their codependency.

but oh no!! things are not looking good for our murdered man's sister, who has since gone missing. did she do it....? (spoilers: nah she's innocent)

i felt very bad for the scraggly guy scully found in the middle of a field, who seem to thought that he somehow triggered his father's death. scully says she knows how it feels because she just lost her dad and holds his hand as he cries. scully :(((((((((

so then mulder and the sheriff visit an elder who explains the myth of the shapeshifter to them as one who is attacked and then attacks others, and cannot remember the trance they fall into. they refer to this as an Algonquin legend, and at first i was confused because the Algonquin live on the opposite side of north america, but the term can also refer to the entire language family that stretches across the continent. the more you know!

(regardless, the appropriation of Indigenous imagery as a form of horror entertainment by white folks is always gonna be Problematic and i do not excuse them of this crime)

but this is a sad kind of monster, in the x-files universe at least- one who doesn't know they are attacking others, which is a very compelling trope imo...

and we learn the kid had his father's blood in him, which can only happen if he ate his dad... which means...

OH NO! HE'S GONNA EAT SCULLY!

(actually i will copy my notes verbatim here, which i wrote while she drove him home, then continued writing as she tried to help him out while he was acting weird and locked himself in the bathroom)

"NOOO THE KID IS THE EVIL FELLOW AND SCULLY IS DRIVING HIM HOME this is what being a doctor gets you ohhh poor kid and poor scully she just wants to do her doctor duties and she'll pick the damn lock if she needs to that's doctorly dedication NOOOO HE'S GONNA EAT HER NOOOO NOT IN SEASON ONE WE HAVE SO MANY MORE TO GET TO"

wow, i think that says a lot. feel free to unpack that at a later time.

anyway, mulder realizes what is going on and he shows up with the sheriff guns blazing. like seriously, he SHOOTS the taxidermied bear i had earlier said "roaaaaar" to. the head is blown clean off. he was NOT going to let scully get eaten.

finally during his search of the ranch, he opens a door and she's hiding in there. they fall on top of each other and she says "it's okay, it's me, it's okay" and. man. the whispering. the need to be at each other's side in the face of imminent danger. the relief of those hushed words. it's okay. it's me. they're together again and they can face this Thing as a united front. ohhhhhhh hold me tight.

the sheriff shoots the mysterious creature and surprise! it turns into the guy who had been previously found naked in a field and accused of eating his father.

scully is deeply perplexed by all of this. she does not know what to think, for a mere 24-ish hours ago she was talking about how a human cannot become an animal! another instance of her central beliefs being shaken to the core.

before they leave, the old man yells to mulder "see you in about 8 years" referring to the cyclical nature of the attacks. and he says "i hope not"... how very ominous... i will certainly keep this in mind for future seasons

i thought the suspense in this episode was really good and i knew deep down she wasn't really going to be eaten, but i was still scared, so it certainly did its job in that regard. overall, not my fave episode though for cultural appropriation reasons- hint to those reading: Don't profit off of bastardizing Indigenous belief systems.

they did serve with those goth black umbrellas, though, i'll give them that.

Same year as Tonys death, and the most interesting new cast member to note would be Lucia; now 21 and part of the Mega Pizzaplex' security team, investigating the strange disappearances that she believes to be connected to the Mimic. -Welcome to Balloon Circus/#Fnaf Welcome to Balloon Circus: 3 star fam return to the Pizzaplex lot 3 years after Ruin to fix M.X.E.S after they suddenly shut down, and upon arrival, instead find a giant circus. There's a big post with a poster and TONS of information here if you're interested!! -Quests Continuation/#Fnaf Quest Continuation: takes place after the Disassembled Ending. Gregory quite literally stumbles into another Pizzaplex unlike the one from SB, now much smaller with uncorrupted animatronics, Bonnie as one of the band members, Foxy still around, and no security guards out to get him. He hesitantly accepts the band members help in finding his old friend, Cassie, so he can be reunited with her and not keep living on the streets, because after finding him for the first time, the band members are VERY adamant that he cannot go back to that living situation, considering the terrible condition he was in. -Endpoint Security/#Fnaf Endpoint Security: Security Breach swap AU featuring newly uninfected Vanessa as the protagonist and a very much so still infected Dr. Rabbit as the antagonist. Vanessa, barely even remembering having this job and now locked in the Pizzaplex until 6am without any of her keycards or tools, is now accompanied by Dr. Rabbit talking to her through her new fazwatch as she goes on a scavenger hunt he set up just for her to find her keycards and tools to help her survive the night until the doors open, though Dr. Rabbit makes it clear that 6am won't be the end of this shift for her. -Back at it again/#Fnaf Back at it Again: Post PQ ending. Vanessa keeps her job as head of security and Gregory takes up an internship as a security guard, position secured by Vanessa’s recommendation, and the two use their job ranks to continue looking into the mysteries of the Pizzaplex and put Mimic to an end once and for all, aaas well as steal whatever they need to take care of Freddy back home when no one's looking. -Painted Tears Trilogy/#Fnaf Painted Tears Trilogy: Silver Eyes Trilogy inspired AU centering around the MCI looking into the disappearances of Charlotte Emily and Evan Afton, two of their now missing childhood best friends.

Aaa sorry for the bombarding of Modern AU Q’s but ..

1. What would be Zenitsu’s favorite Christmas movie? Who would watch it with him?

2. Very specific question but how would Zenitsu react to being showed the bumble from Rudolph? I’ve heard mixed reactions from people saying it rather terrified them as a kid or they loved it

3. How would Zenitsu do in a school environment?

4. What would the Uzui’s think of Zenitsu’s friends (Tanjiro, Inosuke, Kanao, Nezuko, Genya) if he brought them over? If they were his same age

5. How would the Uzui’s manage Zenitsu’s birthday?

Please keep them coming, I love them! Honestly I’ve put a bit of thought into a modern AU, not necessarily to write a full fic about but it helps me work on their dynamics in OMWF

1. I am once again trying not to out myself as someone who does not know recent children’s media…that said, that 1970s Sesame Street Christmas special. It’s musical (the songs slap) and not super high stakes or stressful so it’s not going to freak him out. (Please note that I was not a child in the 70s lmao I was just a Sesame Street girlie)

I think they might watch it with him once. And then just put it on for him over and over and over again.

I was actually going to suggest those cheesy romance ones, but I think they’re too high concept for a young kid to understand leaving your big city job and rich fiancé for the charming Christmas tree farmer who understands the true meaning for Christmas :/

Oh, also the Santa Buddies movies. With the puppies that talk? Suma is a huge fan as well tbh.

2. Bumble is terrifying and I do not think he would actually make it through that entire movie 😭 he hides as soon as it’s on screen and that’s in the first few minutes, I think?

3. Canonically (per Kimetsu Academy) Zenitsu doesn’t do well in school, but he only applies himself to subjects he likes. I imagine school is probably a nightmare for him, it’s loud and overwhelming, he doesn’t make friends easily, and he cries a lot which frankly ruins a toddler’s street cred. I cannot imagine Uzui as an understanding parent when it comes to homework either tbh. So it’s a bad experience all around.

4. I don’t think Tengen would mind them, but he would mind being used as a babysitter. He wouldn’t really want to entertain a bunch of kids…but can you even imagine him trying to drop Zenitsu off on a play date? There would be so much screaming. So play dates are always at his house and he’s kinda mad about it (but refuses to work on the whole separation anxiety thing. That’s totally not his problem…)

5. I have a lot of thoughts on how Zenitsu’s birthday was decided upon (I do not believe he would realistically know what his birthday is) and my personal headcanon that I was going to write into a fic and haven’t yet, is that Jigoro assigns the day as a “this is the first day as a changed person” kind of deal.

That said; Uzui uses his birthday to flaunt his wealth and party planning abilities and has a huge blowout that he also invites his adult friends to, even if they don’t actually know Zenitsu. Despite the overstimulating environment, the actual highlight of the day is that Giyu actually showed up.
