i sometimes get the impression that a lot of people forget that while our flag means death is a comedy, it does know how to handle trauma well within the narrative. we are shown it over and over with the flashbacks for ed and stede and jim. at no point do they play the real trauma of the situation for laughs, its treated with the weight it deserves, while still being part of a comedy show
#this is sorta tangentially related to my last post. mostly the tags bit#like ok. im not really expecting the toe scene to be treated with the weight that it would be in a more serious show#(id like it to be; but thats why we have fanfiction) mostly im Expecting it to be casually disregarded after some apologies#as though it isnt a serious disability like it would be irl i guess#the thing that would ick me is if it became the butt of a joke. played for laughs. its an issue izzy has and oh isnt it funny. you know?#theyve shown us they know how to handle serious and traumatic shit within the frame of the show and im hoping izzys toe falls more that way#rather than silly haha#idk. thoughts#nyxtalks#ofmd#lunchtime meta is apparently a thing im doing this week (instead of the hand sewing i SHOULD BE DOING!!!)#our flag means death#a certified nyx post

If it isn't treated seriously, it will definitely affect my feelings about the show and my respect for the creators.
Though if anyone can make jokes about the toe, it's Izzy.
Gallows humor can be quite healing.
