sorry this is a book post not a game post lol. but i have many. thoughts on shadow & bone

objectively speaking, yeah this is one of my favorite pieces of work, if we're talking about the books. i loved the books, specifically the 2nd one. it's what got me back into reading

but the tv show? ergh..

so for starters, no my problem was not that they made the mc asian or changed some stuff with it, it was that it was literally just a six of crows thing

like

that was legit the real reason they made it. and i honestly, hate six of crows. COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS READ IT BTW. so don't think my hate is unwarranted

it just, didn't envoke any feeling to me. it felt so bland compared to her other works. every fucking character was an edgy badass with a sad backstory, which is fine, so many characters in s&b r that too! but it felt like that was all they were

all of the romance felt sooo forced too. i honestly, don't take this the wrong way, have always thought the author wasn't the best at writing romance

i mean. take mal. (side note i fucking hate himmmm smmmm ughhhh but that's a different post)

but in six of crows especially. it was. not good lol

every romance was so forced, especially the main two. cause he was just

a dick to her (excuse me i forgot their names)

and the author has a habit of just kinda throwing in a lgbt romance when the story gets kinda stale, so that's what the other one is

the only ok one is the one w the guy from the place who's based on russia and even then it's so just not well written

anyways, onto why i think it's just a six of crows story than a s&b one is this

six of crows is much more popular

i think they may have started it to be a joint thing but it ended up being more soc than s&b

i think another reason i dislike soc is cause i don't connect with anyone in it. like in s&b i can empathize w/ alina, or genya, or even mal, bc they feel more real and fleshed out. i can feel bad for them even i dislike them or they do bad things ( ok but i gotta say i hate how the darkling just got like,, redeemed at the end im a darkling hater for ever )

the six of crows books feel sm like the last book of shadow and bone which is also my least favorite lmao so maybe that has something to do with

seeing a speedrun of botw all dungeons and even like that .... its so strange how soulless totk feels to me when botw didnt, allthough it feels much flatter to me now since i know there wasnt any thought put into the things i thought were meaningful and that it will go nowhere in the end

and yet still it feels like its got soul that totk just hasnt; botw is far from perfect, like everything really, but totk to me really feels like a clunky grind game with no trust in the player at all, be it puzzles or 'story', and a fundamental missunderstanding of why botws world design and structure worked well as a whole in the end

i honestly still cant quite understand how on earth botw got totk as its 'sequel', all the things that needed work in botw where neglected or made worse totk while it also failed to follow up on literally anything in a meaningful way- when i still think the changes it needed where so OBVIOUS and the directions to follow up and expand on things to enhance not just the sequel but also botw in retrospect where so plenty and ready for the taking, it hurts me still even to think about it not being done and everything really being actively thrown away for NOTHING or things that make it AND botw WORSE in retrospect instead

i wont ever be able to forgive that, and some part of me hopes that this is the worst that they will ever do so at least we will get better games again in the future

i like the game so far!

at this time, ive been judging the controls, story, characters, and combat of wuwa and compare it genshin

there are things i like, and things i feel meh about (it hasnt been out for even a week yet so im cool with it for now)

however, i have been more raised eyebrow towards the characters and controls of the game. since they are the key things that make me stay besides a cool story

ive mainly noticed there are some quality of life features they miss compared to genshin. but also some that they have that genshin doesnt

i chant praises for the features and gameplay they have genshin doesnt. but get pretty frustrated about what they dont have

i always try to reason that its basically an infant at the moment, but gamer rage gets the best of me frequently

so (like with genshin sometimes), i roar my frustrations at my screen

“ugh, genshin has this! why dont you?”

“oh my god, you are so slow.”

“yeah, yeah, ive seen this all before. when do things get interesting?”

sighing, huffing, and palming my face in irritation

and they hear this, and are conflicted

but similarly to traveler in the beginning, i think rover would be the only one to be self aware at this point. the others still have to gain it

so besides their memory lost, theyre also dealing with an unknown and higher being that controls them. with no way to prevent it, or predict when the next time they do will happen

they are conflicted further when they realize theyre helping them get stronger and achieve the same goal as them

what does this mean? who is this? and why are they helping them if they sound like they hate them so much?

note: rushed. and i do actually like this game btw lmao. i just needed to get a part of my frustrations off my chest. overall, this game has a lot of potential i think! the graphics are amazing, and the combat is very interesting (i love combat so much)

i may also write for wuthering waves. if i feel strongly enough about it

since ive been into sagau for almost as long as ive been into canon genshin. yet i only write now (￣▽￣;)
