RTARL’s 2020 NFL Season Week 10 Extravapalooza
Tumblr media
This week’s NFL slate features 5 early games and 6 late games, and allow me to add my voice to the chorus of those asking “Why can’t it be like this EVERY week?” Is it really THAT necessary to try to herd viewers to whatever game Romo or Aikman are calling? Honestly, I hope this is one of the first issues tackled by the incoming Biden administration. If nothing else, a more even game dispersal would make for a more visually symmetrical Extravapalooza, which is a good enough reason for change in and of itself, if you ask me.
My picks are in BOLD, and the lines come to us courtesy of our friends at Vegas Insider. I use the “VI Consensus” line, which is the line that occurs most frequently across Vegas Insider’s list of sportsbooks. Your sportsbook of choice may offer a different number, and if you’d like my opinion on said number A) you are insane, and B) leave a comment below and I’ll try to answer at some point before things kickoff today.
Tumblr media
EARLY GAMES
Houston Texans at Cleveland Browns (-4)
Much like Cleveland’s last home game (a 16-6 Week 8 loss to the Raiders), this game is going to be played in extremely shitty conditions, with strong winds and rain expected. The Browns were TERRIBLE offensively in that Raiders game, but this week they’re getting both studly RB Nick Chubb and G Wyatt Teller back, which should be huge for their run game. Facing the Texans’ worst-in-the-league rush defense won’t hurt either. The wind is likely to rob us of the majesty provided by DeShaun Watson-to-Will Fuller bombs, which is a real bummer both for us as viewers and for the Texans as a football team attempting to win games.
Washington Football Team at Detroit Lions (-3)
The Football Team has a pretty good pass defense as it is, and this week they get a somewhat scuffling Matthew Stafford leading a Kenny Golladay-less Lions offense. If the Detroit braintrust were smart, they’d run the ball a bunch and D’Andre Swift would get the bulk of these carries. The Detroit braintrust is not smart. Alex Smith is starting this game for Washington and I hope he makes it through without getting his leg pulverized into ham salad.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Green Bay Packers (-13.5)
Here we have another game expected to impacted by high winds and precipitation. Fun! I’m putting my faith in Mother Nature and Jacksonville’s very decent run game conspiring to keep this one within 2 TDs. The fact that Green Bay’s best defensive player, CB Jaire Alexander, is unlikely to play certainly helps.
Philadelphia Eagles (-4) at New York Giants
The Eagles are getting RB Miles Sanders, DT Malik Jackson and LT Jason Peters back from injury for this one, and they might also get RT Lane Johnson back. This is after getting good-looking rookie WR Jalen Reagor and TE Dallas Goedert back recently. Philadelphia is getting healthy, and it really seems like they should pull away from their truly horrific division mates as the season winds down.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6) at Carolina Panthers
Man, Tampa Bay got their asses WHOOPED by New Orleans last week. Does that mean they were extra motivated in practice this week and they’ll be super fired up to redeem themselves with a big win on Sunday, or was their performance an on-field manifestation of a locker room beset by strife and disharmony beginning a downward spiral that will last the rest of the season and cause everyone involved in the team’s various splashy roster moves to regret their choices? It’s probably the former, but the latter would be immensely entertaining for me, personally.
Tumblr media
LATE GAMES
Buffalo Bills at Arizona Cardinals (-2.5)
I don’t want to say that Arizona’s defense is good, because they really aren’t, BUT they do have a bunch of ball-hawking, risk-taking guys in their secondary that are likely salivating at the thought of snagging one of Josh Allen’s patented “Fuck it, I’m goin’ deep!” attempts. I’d like the Bills’ chances a whole lot more if their defense was playing anywhere near the level they were at the previous couple of seasons, but for whatever reason they’ve been thoroughly average at best here in 2020. This game has so many wildly entertaining ingredients that I can’t imagine it being a dud regardless of which way it goes.
Denver Broncos at Las Vegas Raiders (-3.5)
The Broncos have been plagued by slow starts this season, and have found themselves down double-digits at halftime in 5 of their last 7 games. The Raiders are seemingly built explicitly to play with a lead, so if it happens here they should be able to grind the injury-riddled Denver defense into dust with RB Josh Jacobs as the game clock, as well as the life of anyone watching, dispassionately bleeds away.
Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams (-2.5)
The Rams are 5-3, but their wins have come against the 4 NFC East teams and the Bears. They are true bumslayers. On top of that, it genuinely appears that Jared Goff cannot make any decisions on the field without Sean McVay barking them into his helmet, which is truly hilarious. Fortunately for Goff, McVay, and the Rams, this week they get to run it up against a Seattle team missing the top 3 CBs from its already cataclysmically shitty defense. Russell Wilson, D.K, Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett are great, but the L.A. defense is no joke and I think they’ll be able to prevent Russ from cooking enough to feed everyone. That analogy doesn’t even make sense, let’s just move on.
Los Angeles Chargers at Miami Dolphins (-1.5)
Oh hell yeah, we’ve got ourselves quite the sexy young QB matchup here. The Fins are smoking hot right now, having won 4 in a row and 5 of their last 6, and it’s long past time for me to move them from  “Frisky” to “Actually Good” in my personal Power Rankings. The Chargers will have G Trai Turner on the field for the first time since Week 2, and T Bryan Bulaga appears to be good to go after leaving last week’s game with an injury. This will be very helpful for QB Justin Herbert, imo, especially against Miami’s 8th-ranked pass defense (according to Football Outsiders). Common sense says that Miami should be the pick, but my desire to see Herbert actually WIN one of the rollercoaster games his team constantly finds themselves in has commandeered this selection. This game will be a good place to park your eyeballs.
San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints (-9.5)
I’m trying not to overreact to a single game, but I can’t get past how thoroughly the Saints wrecked the Buccaneers last week. In particular, their defense was GREAT. If they’re gonna start locking teams up anywhere near that completely on a consistent basis, all of a sudden they’re firmly in the mix to win it all. I think they keep things rolling defensively against a Niners offense missing its top 2 RBs, its All-World TE, and its #1 WR, all with a backup QB at the helm.
Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7)
I’m picking the Bengals based on nothing more than the Steelers’ insistence on keeping practically every game close. For as good as Pittsburgh is, the only blowout win they have this season is a 38-7 beatdown of the Browns. They’ve allowed teams like the Giants, Broncos, and most recently the Garrett Gilbert-led Cowboys to hang around for a full 60 minutes, so I don’t see why my man Joe Burrow can’t keep his squad in it til the end.
SNF: Baltimore Ravens (-7) at New England Patriots
I have visions of Baltimore racing out to a lead early and Cam Newton and the Pats offense trying to play catch-up against a good defense for the bulk of the game. It’s not a pleasant thing to think about and I don’t enjoy it. I think that’s what’s gonna happen, though. New England hilariously has 17 players listed as Questionable headed into this one. We might get N’Keal Harry back, though!!!
MNF: Minnesota Vikings (-3) at Chicago Bears
Man, this is a tough one. One one hand, inexplicably getting trounced by a team that’s lost 3 in a row and will be without its starting RB and possibly its #1 WR would be an extremely Vikings thing to do. On the other hand, the Bears are currently being quarterbacked by a man whose play drove Troy Aikman to the brink of homicidal insanity a week ago. I guess I’ll go with the team who can complete forward passes at a reasonable clip, but I don’t feel that great about it. A fun wrinkle to this game is that due to the aforementioned absence of Chicago’s primary ball-carrier, Cordarrelle Patterson is expected to get extended work out of the backfield as a runner. This may really only be exciting for myself and Soused, as we’re longtime Cordarrelle fanboys. WE WILL BE VINDICATED.
Last Week’s Record: 4-9 (Shit!)
Season Record: 58-63-4

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports
This projection will be very wrong
This is dumb.
Attempting to guess what a high school senior is thinking in a single moment is an effort in futility. Attempting to guess what they might be thinking six months from now after having been recruited by some of the top football programs in the country during a pandemic in which a football season may not even happen is sheer lunacy.
But I have never pretended to be a sane individual so why start now?
Today, I will take my first stab at projecting Auburn’s 2021 signing class. I will be wrong, likely very wrong but the exercise should at least provide some context on where this class sits right now and its potential upside. I was very conservative in this projection with only a few bold predictions thrown in because Auburn always lands 2-3 kids no one expects.
For now, I am going to assume Auburn signs a full 25 man class. That number always seems to fluctuate so it’s safe to just stick with the base number for now. Here’s my best guess in June on whom ends up in Auburn’s 2021 class come signing day.
4* QB Dematrius Davis | 5’11” | 190 lbs | Houston, TX | Auburn Commit
Davis was the first tangible proof that Auburn’s efforts in Texas were proving fruitful. The nation’s 6th ranked dual threat QB recently received an invitation to compete in the Elite 11. His stock has already been on the rise after an outstanding junior campaign. A strong performance in Nashville could push him into the top 50.
i aint lettin my foot off. im steppin harder s/o to @BallerTribe pic.twitter.com/nWTZCmYvs4
— Dee (@Dematrius09) June 23, 2020
4* RB Armoni Goodwin | 5’8” | 190 lbs | Trussville, AL | Auburn Commit
There was buzz earlier this week that Auburn’s longest committed member of the 2021 class might be on flip watch. LSU is reportedly hard after the explosive playmaker but confidence remains strong on the Plains he sticks with the better looking Tigers. When visits reopen this fall though Goodwin will be a prospect to monitor. Does he make it down to Baton Rouge? I still believe Auburn’s relationships win out here but Ed O’s Tigers cannot be ignored.
4* WR Deion Colzie | 6’4” | 193 lbs | Athens, GA
Georgia appears to be prioritizing speed this cycle specifically honing in on 4-star Malcolm Johnson Jr and 4-star Xavier Worthy. Alabama has only one more WR spot in their class and are putting the full court press on 4-star Brian Thomas Jr. Put those facts together with buzz that Colzie might be leaning towards leaving the state and it doesn’t seem too crazy that he ends up in Auburn’s class.
3* WR Adonai Mitchell | 6’3” | 190 lbs | Antioch, TN | Ole Miss Commit
Auburn has already flipped two prospects in this class and could be on the verge of a 3rd. Tennessee’s 11th ranked prospect told AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr earlier this week he speaks with Auburn’s staff daily. Georgia is also a threat but Auburn has long prioritized Mitchell and I think those relationships pay off in the end.
3* WR Brashard Smith | 5’8” | 190 lbs | Miami, FL
The Tigers are looking to sign at least one 2 man in this class. 4-star Christian Leary was the top target and Auburn felt good about him up until he committed to the Tide. Now the Tigers are likely to turn the heat up on former UF commit Smith. This pick is a reach at this point with Miami and Florida appearing to be the top 2 teams for Smith at the moment. But I had to put one speedster in this class and with Malcolm Johnson possibly leaning UGA, I decided to go with Smith. I wouldn’t be surprised to see home new names emerge in the coming months.
4* TE Michael Trigg | 6’4” | 230 lbs | Tampa, FL
Yes, Auburn might actually take two more tight ends this cycle. As I have written previously, it’s a position that should become much more involved in Auburn’s offense moving forward outside of just being an extra blocker. While the Tigers don’t necessarily need another tight end, you don’t say no to an elite athlete like Trigg. Auburn will have to fight off Florida State and LSU but I like the Tigers chances as of today. He’s another player that would like the opportunity to play both football and basketball at the next level.
Built Different ‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/ppzsSIZcoe
— Trigg (@mtrigg_23) May 7, 2020
3* TE Landen King | 6’5” | 210 lbs | Humble, TX | Auburn Commit
Auburn’s most recent commit, King is a prospect with tremendous upside who fits the mold of athlete Chad Morris covets at the 3 spot in his offense. He continues Auburn’s recent success recruiting the state of Texas. I expect a big senior campaign out of King and wouldn’t be shocked to see him earn that 4th star before signing day.
4* OT Caleb Johnson | 6’7” | 295 lbs | Ocala, FL | Auburn Commit
Arguably Auburn’s most important commit to date, Johnson gives the Tigers a blue chip prep offensive tackle for the first time since Calvin Ashley and Austin Troxell in 2017. Johnson is likely to take official visits this fall so Auburn will have to fight off Notre Dame, Florida and Florida State to hang onto their coveted OT commit but I feel good about that happening right now. Give Johnson a year of development and I think he will be ready to make an impact as early as 2022.
3* OT Rod Orr | 6’7” | 296 lbs | Gadsden, AL
Orr doesn’t yet hold an offer from Auburn but that could soon change. His stock is on the rise, moving to blue chip status in 247’s most recent ranking update. The instate standout is considering Florida State, Mississippi State and Ole Miss at the moment but an Auburn offer would likely shake things up in a major way. The Tigers are swinging for the fences hoping to land one of Tommy Brockermeyer, Amarius Mims and Savion Byrd. If they strike out on all three don’t be surprised if Orr lands an offer and joins Auburn class soon after.
3* OT J’Marion Gooch | 6’7” | 340 lbs | Seymour, TN | Auburn Commit
Gooch recently told AuburnUndercover’s Keith Niebuhr he’s dropped 18 lbs putting him at a slim 340 lbs. His goal is to play at 330 which feels like a good number for a kid his size. Auburn is high on his upside but will likely have to fight to keep his pledge as instate Tennessee continues to pursue as now does UGA. Again, if you are bored and need a pick me up, I highly recommend checking out Gooch’s tape.
3* OL Garner Langlo | 6’7” | 270 lbs | Ocala, FL | Auburn Commit
Despite his height, Langlo’s future might in the interior of Auburn’s offensive line. He currently plays guard for his run heavy high school program which is loaded with D1 offensive line talent. There’s some Braden Smith to his game and if he can even come close to that type of production, Auburn will be VERY happy with this pickup.
4* OG Jaeden Roberts | 6’5” | 340 lbs | Houston, TX | Auburn Commit
It was believed that if Auburn could flip Dematrius Davis they would have a great chance at landing his teammate Jaeden Roberts. Turns out that belief had merit. Auburn beat out Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma State and plenty others to land the big man’s pledge. A physical freak, Roberts will bring a much needed edge to the interior of Auburn’s offensive line.
4* OG Dietrich Pennington | 6’5” | 326 lbs | Cordova, TN
I know very little about Pennington’s recruitment outside of the fact Auburn is in his top 5 and if Clemson has a spot for him he likely goes there. But Dabo’s Tigers seem to be prioritizing other OL at the moment which makes me think this will end up an Auburn v Florida State battle. The Tigers would like another interior OL if possible and Pennington feels as good a bet as any right now.
Shoutout to @Hayesfawcett3 @Recruit247 pic.twitter.com/meSIt6uCob
— Dietrick Pennington (@Dietrick80P) May 30, 2020
4* DT Lee Hunter | 6’5” | 292 lbs | Eight Mile, AL | Auburn Commit
Auburn will lose at least two interior players after the 2020 season in Tyrone Truesdell and Daquan Newkirk. If Coynis Miller has the breakout season some expect he will, that number could climb to three. The Tigers will need at least one immediate impact player in this 2021 class for next season. Hunter is that guy. Auburn will have to fend off Alabama, Georgia, Florida State and Tennessee to keep Hunter in the class but I see that happening for now. Hunter is one of the most dominating defensive tackle prospects in the country and has the skillset to thrive on the Plains under Coach G’s tutelage.
4* DT Marquis Robinson | 6’3” | 300 lbs | Milton, FL
A decision still looks far off for Robinson but Auburn is clearly the team to beat in his recruitment. The Milton standout is also strongly considering the instate Noles but the Tigers have been on Robinson for quite awhile. Pairing him with Hunter would give Auburn an excellent defensive tackle class in 2021.
3* DE Tobechi Okoli | 6’5” | 250 lbs | Kansas City, MO
File this name away. Auburn is chasing some higher ranked talent in the likes of Leonard Taylor, Shambre Jackson, Dylan Brooks and Keanu Koht but the Tigers also really like Okoli. Auburn only offered in May but immediately made his top group. Nebraska looks to be the team to beat at the moment but don’t sleep on Auburn’s chances in this race.
NR DE/Buck Jimmori Robinson | 6’6’ | 248 lbs | Alexanderia, VA
Robinson is likely to be a top 10 JUCO prospect in the 2021 class and someone Auburn’s defensive staff is extremely high on. After a solid redshirt freshman season at Dodge City, Robinson transferred to Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY which has a loaded defensive line heading into the 2020 season. I don’t think it’s a definite that Auburn takes a JUCO lineman in this class but if they do Robinson is likely the choice.
4* Buck Jeremiah Williams | 6’3” | 224 lbs | Birmingham, AL
Williams is unquestionably the top man on Auburn’s board at the Buck. The Ramsay standout is coming off a 14 sack junior season and is being pursued by pretty much every major football program in the country. However, this likely ends up being an instate battle with the Tigers possibly holding the edge at the moment. Williams wants to take some visits before making a decision. Oklahoma and Florida lurk as out of state threats.
5* LB Smael Mondon | 6’3” | 220 lbs | Dallas, GA
I have zero confidence in this prediction but I have no idea who to pick at linebacker if not one of the studs T-WILL is chasing. The nation’s #2 ranked OLB by 247 Composite hinted a commitment would come in June but that doesn’t look likely at the moment. Both Auburn and Tennessee have made this is a legitimate three team race with the Dawgs. I still think UGA is gonna be tough to beat but I also believe in T-WILL’s ability on the trail. If Auburn gets Mondon they likely would not take any other linebackers sans Xavian Sorey.
4* CB Nyland Green | 6’2” | 183 lbs | Covington, GA
Over the past few weeks, Auburn has started trending the right direction with Green. In fact, there are some who believe the Tigers are the team to beat. But Auburn has had moments of confidence in the past when facing off with Clemson for top Georgia talent only to be disappointed in the end. But Green has a strong relationship with Auburn’s staff and is very close with Dre Butler. Will it be enough for the Tigers to snag one of the best DBs in the country? Let’s hope so.
3* CB Kamari Lassiter | 6’0” | 185 lbs | Tuscaloosa, AL
Lassiter’s offer list and rating do not jive. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Florida and Florida State are all in hot pursuit of the nation’s 25th ranked cornerback. The Tigers appear to be sitting in a pretty good spot this summer but the Tide might be tough to beat if they push. For now, I am going to project him landing with the Tigers.
4* DB Markeivous Brown | 6’0” | 170 lbs | Bradenton, FL
There hasn’t been much buzz around Brown’s recruitment but this is a kid Wesley McGriff really likes. Auburn hasn’t had a ton of success recruiting IMG but that could change this cycle. The Tigers will have to beat out Florida and Ole Miss to land Brown’s pledge but I like where they sit right now in this race.
3* DB Tar’varish Dawson | 5’10” | 175 lbs | Lehigh Acres, FL | Auburn Commit
Dawson will get a shot on the offensive side of the ball but I think his future is on defense. A speedster from south Florida, Auburn has had a lot of success putting kids like Dawson in the league. He’s someone that could have an early impact on special teams.
4* S Kamren Kinchens | 5’11” | 201 lbs | Miami, FL
Kinchens is set to make his decision on July 11th. This is essentially a two team race between Auburn and Miami. A month ago I really liked where Auburn stood in his recruitment. My confidence though has steadily dropped over the past few weeks. The Canes already hold pledges from four of his teammates including beating out UGA for 4-star WR Romello Brinson. I think Auburn is still very much in this battle but Miami might currently hold the edge. Still, it wouldn’t shock me if he picked the Canes now but Auburn stayed after him and pulled off the flip come signing day.
3* S Phillip O’Brien Jr | 6’0” | 169 lbs | Deerfield Beach, FL | Auburn Commit
The most underrated commitment in Auburn’s 2021 class, O’Brien Jr remains solid to the Tigers despite the continued pursuit by Florida State and Michigan. His commitment came as a surprise back in March but he’s been a vocal recruiter for the Tigers on social media. I think he’s a top 200 player in this class and will be an early impact player on the back end of Auburn’s defense next fall.

2019 Chicago Bears 7 Round Mock Draft
Even though the usual buzz around the NFL Draft is missing for some Chicago Bears’ fans, that doesn’t change the importance from the team’s standpoint. Ryan Pace and his scouting staff will be working as hard as ever to make sure they maximize their five selections this year.
The Bears don’t have many pressing needs that they HAVE to hit on in the draft, so we could see Pace stick to a best player available strategy and just get good solid football players to bolster the depth on his roster. Or we could see him go the other way for a change, and roll the dice on high upside types. Either way, the draft is sure to be interesting. We’ll also likely see Pace trade around the board, which could add to the excitement, and don’t be surprised to see him use some future picks to do so.
For my first Bears’ mock draft this offseason I used a new simulator to the game and I thought it provided a good peek at the process. The Draft Network rolled out their sim this offseaosn and it’s been receiving a lot of play on social media.
A quick reminder about mock drafts; they are all wrong. All of them. Even this one. Simulating or guessing exactly how a board will fall is an impossible task. I may hit on a few picks, but for the most part these are exercises to learn about some prospects the Bears could be interested in.
For this specific mock I picked with the assumption that the Bears are likely to trade running back Jordan Howard. Since I can’t make that deal on The Draft Network’s sim to pick up an extra selection, you’ll just have to use your imagination to determine what could be the return for Howard.
I also stuck fairly close to the board that I used as the players fell. I dropped down a few times when the top positions available came at a spot the Bears should have no need for.
To see my full draft board you can click here, and to see how I picked keep on reading.
Round 3 - Pick 87: Miles Sanders, RB, Penn State The Bears will be looking for some more versatility at the running back position, and Sanders could provide that. After being kept behind Saquon Barkley early in his college career, Sanders was finally given the keys to the car in 2018 and he ran for 1,274 yards with a 5.8 average. He also caught 24 passes last year, but more importantly he looked like a natural receiver out of the backfield. Penn State even lined him up out wide on occasion. At 5’ 11” and 211 pounds, he’s not simply an undersized third down specialist, plus the low mileage could be beneficial to his long term career.
Round 4 - Pick 126: Marquise Blair, S, Utah Whether or not Adrian Amos is resigned, safety depth is always a need. Blair looks more like a free safety (6’1”, 195), but he plays with an aggressive (sometimes too aggressive) streak. “Blair plays the game with an aggressive field demeanor that fuels his passion to race into the action, ready to strike on sight’” writes NFL.com’s Lance Zierleine. “However, his lack of discipline hurt his team with targeting penalties and by over-running responsibilities against the run and pass.”
Round 5 - Pick 162: Myles Gaskin, RB, Washington It wasn’t my intention to double down at the position, but Gaskin (5’8”, 205) was high on the board when I was picking and he fit the “prototype” for what the Bears could use. If my third round pick of Sanders is replacing Howard, then Gaskin would replace Taquan Mizzell.
I have a feeling that head coach Matt Nagy would prefer a running back by committee, so getting two fresh faces to pair with Tarik Cohen makes sense.
Round 7 - Pick 222: Jordan Brailford, EDGE, Oklahoma State You can never have enough pass rushers and Brailford had 10 sacks in 2018. From an athletic standpoint, he was top ten at the combine among edge defenders in the forty, the broad jump, bench press and vertical jump. Those explosive traits will need honing at the next level, but he has some workable tools.
Round 7 - Pick 238: Mark Fields, CB, Clemson Fields had the second fastest forty (4.37) and the second most reps on the bench (18) among corners at the NFL Combine. With his quickness and size (5’10”) his NFL home will likely be as a nickleback. He may need some time to work on his technique after only playing in 12 games the last two years, but as the saying goes, you can’t teach speed.
Check out how my mock board fell at The Draft Network and let me know who you would have taken.

The 7 best fights from NFL training camps
A dustup in the stands during the Titans intra-squad scrimmage got real serious. And the Chargers and Rams gave us our first brawl of the year.
All 32 teams are now into the padded practice portion of camp, i.e. they have the pads on and they hitting each other. That means the intensity level at NFL training camps has officially been dialed up. It also meant fights!
Nobody has been hurt because of fighting, yet.
The Bengals can probably credit luck for part of that since the fight at their practice started with Vontaze Burfict diving at Gio Bernard’s knees, which ranks as the dumbest fight in any camp so far.
But we’ve got a variety of them, from a minor scuffle to one that actually resulted in bleeding. We’ll keep the rankings updated as the fights continue.
1. Titans fan vs. Titans fan
We have a new pair of pugilists atop the leader board, and they don’t even play for a team. Two Titans fans got into it during the team’s scrimmage. I’m not sure why the guy in the “Keep Calm” shirt has Batman’s phone, but the t-shirted crusader bloodies the guy’s lip with a big right to the mouth after getting shoved.
Can we appreciate the fact that a dude in a "Keep Calm" shirt was involved in a fight in the stands? http://pic.twitter.com/6YBXH4xdlG
— Josh Sánchez (@jnsanchez) August 6, 2017
More punches were landed in this dustup than any of the training camp fights on the field between players. The best part is the guy running away. It’s definitely going to be a big year in Tennessee.
(h/t Big Cat Country)
2. Rams vs. Chargers brawl
We’ve got a brawl!
Joint practices are supposed to be a sneaky way teams get some extra work within the limitations on their practice time. Does it work? Who knows. What we do know is that there is always a brawl.
Rams corner Trumaine Johnson shoved Chargers receiver Dontrelle Inman. Benches cleared, mostly, thereafter.

— Lisa Lane (@LisaLane_Sports) August 10, 2017
Wait, are we sure Jeff Fisher isn’t still coaching this team? Because this kind of stuff was the one place where he could get the Rams to excel.
3. Julian Edelman vs. Stephon Gilmore
The Patriot Way includes no shortcuts. New England’s new corner was reportedly holding Edelman, who took exception and wrestled him to the ground. It looked more like a hockey fight. Helmets came off and they tussled around for a little bit before finally being separated.

Bill Belichick threw them out of practice. Asked about the fight by SB Nation’s Thomas George, an older, wiser Rob Gronkowski explained why he avoids practice field scuffles.
4. Frank Clark vs. Germain Ifedi
Seahawks practices have a reputation for being tense in the first place. And fights in the trenches between offensive and defensive linemen at camp aren’t all that unusual. Defensive tackle Frank Clark crossed the line on Thursday, Aug. 3. Punches were thrown, or at least one punch was thrown and landed.
It started with two other linemen pushing and shoving. In the ensuing scuffle, Clark decked Ifedi, who ended up on the ground with a bloody mouth.

That was Clark’s second fight in camp this year and his third with a teammate (going back to Week 17 last season).
5. T. Y. Hilton vs. Vontae Davis
This one sounded less like a fight and more like branding exercise. The Colts, you see, want to get tougher this year so they’re having tougher practices, whatever that means.
Round 2?! Nothing but competition at #ColtsCamp. http://pic.twitter.com/0upiVSm8oo
— Indianapolis Colts (@Colts) August 1, 2017
A drill matched up the team’s top receiver and top corner; jawing ensued. They weren’t done. Hilton beat Davis to score not long after that, and they locked up again. No punches were thrown, and it didn’t take long for their teammates and coaches to intervene. Davis managed to stay on top of the receiver after the two went down, so we’ll give him the win.
6. Vontaze Burfict vs. the rest of the Bengals
The Bengals weren’t supposed to be tackling for this particular drill, but since when has that stopped Burfict. He tackled running back Gio Bernard and went low for his knees. Bernard just started practicing because he’s been recovering from a torn ACL last season.
#Kerfuffle Burfict goes low on Gio. RBs coach Caskey not happy.#Bengals http://pic.twitter.com/DZ8Ae11cgM
— Jay Morrison (@JayMorrisonCMG) August 1, 2017
Burfict’s tackle didn’t sit well with his teammates, and that led to a larger scrum. A coach even got pushed during the spat. Tight end Tyler Eifert went the extra mile, and he kept jawing with the linebacker after the rest of the players had moved on.
After practice, they waved it off as the typical camp intensity. Head coach Marvin Lewis was more blunt, telling reporters “pushing and shoving is a waste of time.”
7. Noah Spence vs. Cole Gardner
This is your typical training camp fight. Things get heated, there’s a brief physical encounter, and the rest of the teams steps in to break it up.
The thing that gets me about this one is Spence punching Gardner in the helmet. It’d be awfully embarrassing to break your hand because you punched a teammate’s hard plastic lid. Maybe not as embarrassing as when Washington’s former GM broke his hand punching a wall after hearing that one of his players was injured last year. But way more embarrassing than when quarterback Jim Harbaugh broke his hand punching Jim Kelly.

Ranking all the fights from NFL training camps: Titans fan fight tops them all
A dustup in the stands during the Titans intra-squad scrimmage got real serious.
All 32 teams are now into the padded practice portion of camp, i.e. they have the pads on and they hitting each other. That means the intensity level at NFL training camps has officially been dialed up. It also meant fights!
Nobody was hurt in the fights, which is always a plus.

More punches were landed in this dustup than any of the training camp fights on the field between players. The best part is the guy running away. It’s definitely going to be a big year in Tennessee.

Ranking Tuesday’s NFL training camp fights
