The Sims 4 Taylor Swift Eras Challenge

Dear Reader,

It’s me! Hi! Welcome!

I sometimes fancy myself as a Mastermind. I had an idea of making a new Sims 4 legacy challange based on Taylor Swift’s Eras. First things first, I googled if something like it exist. I found @gillysims “Swiftacy” challenge and it was really awesome! (Tumblrhttps://gillysims.tumblr.com › postthe sims 4: swiftacy a 10 generation swiftie legacy challenge - Gillysims) We basically had the same idea but I still wanted to make the stories in my head happen. I decided there is no harm in trying. I could still make my own. So you might find a bit of similarities in our challenges. I also combined it with a little of @lilsimsie ‘s “Not-so-Berry” challenge. (Tumblrhttps://lilsimsie.tumblr.com › postNot So Berry Legacy Challenge - lilsimsie - Tumblr) I hope I didn’t do something bad and that it’s not forbidden or something.

I cooked it up in my head. I based every generation to a Taylor Swift era and songs from the corresponding album to make a story for each sim. I have no idea if the challenges are doable in one normal sim lifespan but hey, this is me trying. 😅

What are the rules?

So as I've mentioned you don't need to create new stuff for this challenge! If you've ever done smth featuring lyrics that involve a word on this list then you can join just as easily as someone who wants to create smth new!

What types of media are allowed?

Any you can think of! Whether you have drawn/painted smth, made a lyric edit, did an lyric analysis, wrote a piece of (fan)fiction, made a video or if you crafted anything irl (like embroidery or collages for example); anything is allowed as long as it fits a taylor lyric featuring a word on the list!

How do I participate?

Well there are multiple options that will all lead you to a similar result!

1. You want to create smth for this challenge or have simply never posted about the work you're considering for this? then you can either

a) You can make your own post, tag this blog in it and schedule it to post on the day of the prompt

Yo wazzup! Saw you wanted asks! What's your thoughts process when making edits? Like...do you see something that reminds you of a ship/topic and go from there, or do you set out to make something based on a ship/topic and find corresponding material? Or something else??? Also, have a good day!

WELL usually, I'm very active on instagram and i tend to scroll through edits. So, whenever I find a trend or an audio that reminds me of a ship.. I edit it.

Also, I'm like one of the biggest swifties ever so whenever I'm listening to any taylor swift song, my brain randomly connects it to a ship and i just HAVE to edit to it.

Spotify Wrapped 2022

In this post, I’ll be sharing some fun insights from my 2022 Spotify Wrapped. A bit late and random, but I was really at a loss for what to write about this week. As you’ll know from my what’s on my phone post, Spotify is my app of choice for both music and podcasts. In 2022 I listened to Spotify for a total of 49,408 minutes. This equates to over 800 hours and puts me in the 92nd percentile of Spotify users!  

The majority of these minutes were spent listing to music with my top genre being folk. My most-streamed song was Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves. (Note that all of these links are to Spotify).  Other top songs included Follow Your Arrow also by Kacey Musgraves and The House That Built Me by Miranda Lambert. Not a Spotify insight, but The House That Built Me is my personal pick for my favorite song of 2022. New to Spotify Wrapped for 2022 was the music personality. Spotify seemed pretty spot on with their classification of me as a devotee as I really do listen to the same set of songs on repeat.  

As for my top artists, in order, they were James Taylor, Kacey Musgraves, The Chicks, Brandi Carlile, and Taylor Swift. While James Taylor is technically my favorite artist, I was actually quite surprised to once again see him at the top for 2022 because I didn’t think that I listened to him that much this year. My most-streamed James Taylor song was Carolina in My Mind. I didn’t discover Kacey Musgraves until April of last year, so it’s sort of crazy that she was my second most listened-to artist and that her songs claimed my top two spots. However, I guess it’s not a huge surprise either as I listened to her constantly in April and a fair bit over the summer as well. As for The Chicks and Brandi Carlile, they are some of my all-time favorites, so happy to see them make the list! Finally, Taylor Swift? I’m far from being a Swiftie, but I suppose her music has grown on me over the years. And while I didn’t like her music when I was younger, it now invokes some nostalgia. Furthermore, All Too Well (10 Minute Version) is seriously a great song. The other reality is Taylor Swift is one of the few artists that I and everyone else at Smith know. My favorite fun fact about Taylor Swift is that she was technically named after James Taylor (my aforementioned favorite artist). Additionally, it was actually through listening to some of Taylor Swift’s music that I discovered Kacey Musgraves. In addition to music, I listened to 14,791 minutes worth of podcasts (included in the 29,408). My top podcasts (unsurprisingly) were The Daily, How I Built This with Guy Raz, Wisdom From The Top with Guy Raz, Planet Money, and Hidden Brain. Taylor Swift Facts turns 10!

My fellow Swifties,

Today is the 10-year anniversary of the date I posted the very first SwiftFact. I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been by my side for this amazing journey. This blog has never been just a blog for me - it's been a source of connection, of fun, of support, of appreciation for Taylor and her music.

I began TSF when I was 13, using my home computer. My family had gone through some financial difficulties and, at the time, I didn't even have internet access. I would bring my little USB to the library, save my facts on a Word document, and save the corresponding pictures. I'd go home and make my little posts. I really had no concept of graphic design at the time, so my older posts are honestly quite ugly, but hey. I just wanted to share the information!

I think this blog actually helped me figure out I wanted to be a journalist. I often tell people that I got my degree in journalism because I love learning about things and sharing them with others. That's what I've done here for a decade! Getting the right quotes, deciding which information is most important, even using the inverted pyramid of journalism. I honed a lot of those skills here.

Not to mention, the community that has been here for me. I won't belabor you with my life story, but I used to be quite open about my family struggles on here, and the outpouring of support was always so touching. Some of you even donated money when my family was in need, which is so beautiful and something we all still talk about from time to time. And when my mom passed away, I wasn't posting as frequently, but you all showed me so much love and support anyways. Even though I wasn't giving you much, you gave me everything.

I exchanged Christmas cards for a couple years with tons of you, which made me feel infinitely less lonely. I stopped due to some mental health struggles, but I still have all of your cards, and I see that as a highlight of not only this blog, but of my life. There has been so much real human connection fostered with this little fan blog I created on a whim. I am so grateful.

The craziest thing that has come out of this blog - barring Taylor's follow and even a couple of likes - is the fact that VividSeats gave me tickets to the 1989 tour in 2015. That is one of the top 10 experiences of my life, and I believe it always will be. I can't even express how much that means to me. And maybe I still put the review I wrote for their site on my resume. ;)

All of this is to say, this blog has been an integral part of my growing and changing. Some of my past personal posts on here make me cringe. Some of the facts I would not publish today as the fandom culture has shifted significantly. I learned and grew with this blog. Despite some of the controversy - I feel some people have never liked my blog - the love has kept me going. I am so grateful for every ounce of support anyone here has ever given me.

I apologize for posting sporadically the last few years. Life happens, and I have significantly different priorities than I did in 2012 - I assume we all do - but the reason I've kept posting at all is because I enjoy it. You make it enjoyable. That being said, I'll try my best to get some posts out just in celebration of Midnights and the whirlwind of Taylor content we've gotten the last few years. Even though social media moves so quickly these days, and the format of my blog isn't quite conducive to that anymore, I hope we can all enjoy it. Like the good old days. :)

Even writing all of this, I feel like I can't even begin to express how special this journey has been. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who has ever supported me in any way.

Not some blue-haired, smirking suave sex god with dimples and an endearingly crooked nose who just waltzed into the kitchen with his tight jeans and sweaty shirt and opened the fridge like he lived here, while James stood there in a ratty t-shirt and boxers with snitches on them.

I had the absolute pleasure of watching this fic come to life, and it will never not bring me joy. Confident, ranch hand Teddy and awkward, sweet James? Yes please. Throw in a side of hot rancher Harry and matchmaker Draco, and this fic is the perfect feel-good read, as is its gorgeous sequel.

Dear Smarty Pants,

Yeah, I did break my arm a couple of weeks ago, but it healed right up in a matter of days. (Perks of being a super freak, right?) I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to worry you, but if it happens again, I’ll be sure to give you all the gruesome details! I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself at the rec. Anyway, I hope the tests are going well. What version of web fluid would this batch be? 12.5? 13? You’re updating them too fast for me to keep up! Now that school is coming to an end, I’ve found myself in search for a job or internship somewhere. How terrifying is that?! Soon I’ll be out in the real world doing…. adult things….. I miss having you here with me.

He’s a little mutt named Kipper!! He’s got mile-long ears  and paws that are way too big for his little body. Thank you for that very… vivid description of Thor’s morning routine. (We all could kind of tell he was a bit full of himself anyway, but pep talks in the mirror? Come on!) All is well here in the city. MJ and Ned have coerced me into volunteering at the rec center every Sunday despite my heavy workload, but I’ve found myself really enjoying it. This last semester is kicking my ass, but I’m powering through it with the help of my professors. I visited May last week. She said you broke your arm fighting off bad guys. I wish you’d have told me.

Yeah, I did break my arm a couple of weeks ago, but it healed right up in a matter of days. (Perks of being a super freak, right?) I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to worry you, but if it happens again, I’ll be sure to give you all the gruesome details! I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself at the rec. Ned and MJ are lucky to be able to see you every week. In interesting news, Tony and I are working on developing a prototype for an updated web fluid. ARE YOU READY FOR A LONG ANALYSIS OF THE SWIFT LIFE FIRST LOOK

So here is the first second we see of the app!!! Just going to go through some obvious basics here. Stick with me, it gets more interesting. Let us note the ability to have a profile picture (which is different for Taylor here than on ALL other social media), a name (Taylor Swift), and below that is probably the url? not sure (@taylor). It also displays when the post was posted (3 seconds ago). The ability to post videos! Also the ability to add captions. The bottom left heart shows the ability to like things and the comment ability is seen in the bottom right. So what is the Taylor face? I’m not sure, but my current theory is that that is how you access the Taymoji’s to react to a post

Now we have another screen with a whole bunch of new things going on! What I want to note here is that at the top it says “Taylor’s feed” and at the bottom the blue ts icon is highlighted. I think this is where we will go to see all of Taylor’s activity. 

At the top there is a clipboard icon with a check. Not sure what that is, but in another screen it is shown with a red notification dot. To the right of that we have a shopping bag with a plus sign and a huge number below it with a red-like symbol to the left. To me, the red symbol looks like a guitar pick and maybe that is how a point system is held and the number displays how many points you have. But why would you need points??? Well, if you look to the very top right, you will see the user’s profile picture displayed with a level under it. The user displayed has a level 18 with a star next to it and the words “super fan” adorning their profile pic. Which leads us back to the checklist! Perhaps it is for point-earning opportunities.

If we look to the middle of this picture we will see the ability to see how many likes a post has! Also, something similar to the Facebook react feature, but with Taymojis. This screenshot reveals three Taymojis: two flags, profile Taylor, and mountain Taylor. It also shows in the comments section the ability to like comments (GENIUS).

If we make our way to the bottom left we see a home button which I am assuming is the user’s dash. Then the ts for Taylor’s activity. The pencil clearly for making posts, the airplane for sending posts (?), and the envelope with the bell for messages (I’m guessing)

This is of a screenshot in the background. This shows the Taymoji screen and the songs they correspond to. (I don’t really understand a lot of the ready for it Taymojis).

I know this is very small but there were these animations on screens in the background of the snakes moving and the bubbles bouncing. I have no idea what this could be. Maybe a mini-game or a loading screen or something?

This has a lot going on. Note the “super swiftie” on the user’s profile pic in the top right. This shows that your posts will be displayed next to your profile pic that has your level under it. There are also three dots in the upper right hand corner of the post, not sure what they do. Taymoji’s can be added to picture posts!! AND THE OFFICIAL TAYLOR LIKE ICON!!! Also, posts can be sent and reblogged revealed here :)

A new screen! The top left informs us that it is from “Scrapbook”. The bottom shows us that it is how you post things, like pictures, text, idk what the 13 is, Taymoji’s, and... gifts? (left to right). So I’m not sure about 2 out of 5 here.

TAYLOR CAN SEE, LIKE, AND COMMENT ON POSTS. I personally think Taylor will be able to see everyone automatically and will not have to “follow.” As shown here, a Taylor like will appear on your picture if she has liked it and it also shows the sent symbol with a number (probably how many times it has been sent)

here in the scrapbook we see at the bottom on the gift section two filters (maybe?) that both say above them “5 followers can collect”. This makes me think we will not automatically have access to all things like this and some will have to be obtained

Play music and chat with friends! THERE IS A GROUP CHAT FEATURE. I am so excited to talk to other fans! (Imagine, if Taylor can join? I also wonder if this means there is a direct messaging feature). I also want to mention the second message says “Do you have the butterfly Taymoji”, further evidence that some features will have to be earned. I also want to point out the music feature which shows the music you are playing’s lyrics at the top of the screen next to a present box (on the left). Perhaps this is how you unlock some things? “Songs added every week!” Perhaps this means Taylor’s songs but, that wouldn’t make much sense right? She knows we love updates on what she is listening to and I bet that changes frequently, so my theory is that those are the songs! (Or maybe they are Taylor songs? Unreleased, demos, live. But, would she really murder us like that?)

Last but not least this small thing in the background. Similar to the snake one. Has a cat at the bottom. Might be a loading screen or something? idk. Anyways I am just super excited!!!

I mean, c’monnnnn. Lol. This is really just a song that’s on there to emphasize his spite towards pretty much everything. He’s got all these issues of self and Oh, was I born to be bad? Etc. and they all stem from being brought into a world against his will and he’s BITTER about it. He shouldn’t exist and he knows it and pretty much everything he’s done he’s done to make sure everyone knows he’s not happy about it.

Essentially, you brought me into this world and now I’m going to make it everyone’s problem. It’s also definitely a song I put on there to touch on his forced death of old self in order to become something more capable of existing in the world he lives in. 

Sweet ole’ polite southern boy isn’t the persona you want to have if you want to be taken seriously or to survive so he essentially willingly took on this villainous and distant and cold persona because he felt that’s what was expected and that’s what was SAFEST.

The irony being that in his pursuit to keep himself safe and emotionally safe he ended up genuinely adopting a lot of the toxic personality traits he was just faking and ended up fucking himself over in the end and opening himself up even more to being hurt.
