delayed Barbie thoughts now that everyone’s talked it to death bc I just saw it last night

but like I agree Barbie was feminism 101 but I think it’s the specific version of feminism 101 that young audiences need to hear right now (also it’s a toy commercial there’s only so much that can be expected)

like having the Barbies choose to become subservient to men and reject their own accomplishments because letting men control you is easier than fighting for autonomy is really relevant to the rise of tradwives and bimbos (as well as a general resistance to achieving a better life if it means struggling and going against what you’re ‘supposed to do’ and maybe failing that I see in people my age because we’ve grown up in a ‘well billionaires are destroying the planet and you can’t fix it so might as well give into helplessness and fatalism’ world)
