GIRL SHARK FILMS SHARK FOLMS SKSJSHSHS okay so there are a few classics i haven’t watched yet, and also a few new ones that i haven’t seen yet BUT I LOVE SHARK FILMS SO MUCH SKSHSGSGSKK the first like proper shark film i ever watched was the shallows (which i like but my brain is still too small to comprehend what happened at the end (i mean i get it but i just can’t imagine it— idek if you’ve seen the film but skshhs)) and after watching it three times it does get a bit boring (but now whenever i see pictures or videos of big waves i’m just waiting for a shark to show up like come ON SKSJSG

ROAD TO THE OSCAR MAYER WIENER AWARDS 2K19

Black Panther, 2018 (dir. Ryan Coogler)

Nominated for: Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing

ok y’all lets get this party started with a movie i didnt get to catch in theaters (i think i ended up renting it) but people were absolutely raving about it all of last year, and for good reason i gotta say!  it was one of the better marvel films that came out last year (though in my humble opinion Infinity War takes the gold)

speaking of marvel lets talk about it for a spell!  lets have a lil sit-down chit-chat shall we!!  cause its kind of insane how much of an american media phenomenon marvel has become, they are arguably single-handedly responsible for reviving the superhero movie subgenre and now these types of movies bring hollywood more dineros than they probably know what to do with (besides make more superhero movies).  what used to be a niche market where only your most hardcore of nerdy types dared to dwell has been embraced into the mainstream wholeheartedly, and now its hard to imagine the american film industry without them. 

from a film critique standpoint, marvel movies seem to be a hit-or-miss as far as quality, however i cant really think of a particular marvel movie that i thought was a total piece of hot garbage (the first two Thor movies come close but they were more boring than anything else).  however last year was a real success for the studio, they just kept pumping out quality movies left and right and once disney managed to get its grubby lil mouse paws on Spider-man it was a done deal baby.  DC and other companies have tried again and again to recreate the success that Marvel has managed and so far they’ve failed to various degrees.  Marvel’s just got that special something with their cinematic universe, some magical combo of great actors and creative directors and an ever-expanding budget that keeps them staying at the top every time.

so whats my stance on superhero movies???  well theyre not my usual cup of tea but i gotta say they’re real damn entertaining.  i kinda view them like a high-speed ride at an amusement park, super fun and thrilling and exhilarating and just a real good time!  but thats about as far as it goes for me, and im sure thats the same for a lot of people.  to be honest its kinda refreshing to have movies that quality-wise are up to my standards that i dont have to think too hard about.  so for me the movies i typically go for are like museums, whereas superhero movies (and action movies in general) are like a carnival.  both entertaining and fun, but the latter is just all about letting loose and not wondering about the why’s and how’s.  when i think about it, this kinda mindset is for sure a factor in how these movies got so popular, because with the shitshow that is our current government and the potential imminent death of our planet people are once again looking for movies as a form of escapism, rather than a way to get deep and philosophical and ask the tough questions and see something profound. 

with that being said, despite some exceptions that have proven me wrong to my utter joy and delight (im looking at u Logan), i expect movies that are nominated for wiener awards to be more like museums than like carnivals y’know what i mean?  u catchin my drift???  u takin what im dishin out????  the academy awards have a long history of prestige, of nominating the best of the best of any given year. quite a few movies that won oscars are now considered to be timeless classics.  which is why superhero movies, at least the typical marvel types that are chocked to the brim with CGI and epic massive fight scenes and explosions, dont really strike me as anything that could eventually become a timeless classic.  the amount of computer-generated effects alone will make these movies feel really dated as soon as like five years from now with how fast technology is progressing.  i just dont see it happening.

and that brings us to the first wiener award nominee ill be talking about, Black Panther.  this isnt director Ryan Coogler’s first time at the rodeo; his first feature film Fruitvale Station received critical acclaim in 2013, and the spiritual Rocky sequel Creed actually got nominated for some oscars a few years ago.  so we’ve got a promising and talented director at the helm which is a great start!  we’ve also got a stellar cast with the likes of michael b. jordan (who has been in all of Coogler’s films so far), lupita nyong’o, angela bassett, and forest whitaker in the bunch.  it also has the astronomical financial backing of Supreme Overlord Disney so u know this is gonna be some high-quality shit.

so i’m gonna tell y’all why i think this movie got nominated for so many oscars, because in a way i do think this movie is deserving of noms from the academy.  theres no denying that it is very groundbreaking for a movie of this scale and magnitude to have a black director and a nearly all-black cast.  in fact, i think a lot of the crew members (including set and costume design) were black as well.  thats fuckin huge my guy.  and this movie was by no means a flop either; it ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 2018 and stayed in theaters for a loooong-ass time.  and not only were the people on this project mostly black, the movie itself is a story praising and showing off the beauty of african culture without exotifying or demeaning it in any way.  like i can say 100% without a doubt that this movie deserves its best costume design nom cause holy shit the outfits in this movie are stunning, just the perfect blend of ancient/current tribal african aesthetics and a more futuristic sleek style that any fashion enthusiast can drool over.

i cant say much about best musical score or best sound mixing or anything like that cause it all seemed like typical marvel stuff to me and wasnt all that memorable.  however i can say that the production design on this movie, while it didnt impress me as much as costuming, did still impress me.  the one thing i gotta knock it on is all the fucken CGI, like whole entire towns and landscapes were digitally rendered.  i wouldve been a lot more impressed and would agree more to the production design nom if they used more practical effects and real sets/locations. 

so.  best picture.  this is where i feel the most conflicted.  cause this is where i now have to look past all the pretty fancy visuals and music and look at the actual meat of this movie, its story and characters.  usually best picture noms also get noms for things like best actress, best script, and best director, cause those are all really important elements of a good film.  ur movie can look and sound as pretty as it wants but if the storys shit and the characters are shit and the actings shit then u dont have much going for u.

and by no means am i saying that Black Panther was shitty in these aspects, it was just well.  passable.  it was ok.  but nothing to write home about

we got some good performances from newcomers letitia wright and chadwick boseman, lupita kills it as always, but then everyone else was like.  okay.  michael b. jordan didnt really do his best in this and idk if its the script’s fault or something but it was weird.  and speaking of the script it was uuuuhhhhh well.  not great.  every time i think about that “what are those” reference i die a little inside.  and the story overall wasnt really anything new when u break it down, just another “son of king struggles to take his place” narrative.  and that aspect of the story couldve actually been more developed into something interesting, i found myself really intrigued with the political scenes.  but there just wasnt enough of that cause they needed to make more room for the PEW PEW POW EXPLOSIONS

granted, movies with lots of shimmer but little substance have been nominated for best picture before (just look at James Cameron’s Avatar which is apparently getting a sequel now????????).  and its not even that this movie is completely devoid of substance cause theres some interesting things going on plot-wise, and some stand-out characters too (shuri is the boss and no one can tell me otherwise).  its just, u know, a good superhero movie.  nothing really profound about the story itself except for the cultural, historical, and social context behind it.

so lemme get back to why i think this movie got a best picture nom.  i think the academy wants to keep up their appearance of being #woke now by continuing to nominate more than one poc-heavy project each year, but they seem to be caring less and less about the actual overall quality of these movies.  and theres even some movies on the noms list that i think actually have what it takes to be a strong oscars contender, like If Beale Street Could Talk and BlacKkKlansmen.  but i think in Black Panther’s case, they were under a lot of pressure to give it top noms (or any noms at all) because of the intensely positive response this movie got, as well as the accusations of racism to people who didnt think it was as great as fans were saying. 

also i have no doubt that Supreme Overlord Disney like threw piles and piles of money at the academy like they tend to do (cause i’d bet good money thats the only fucken way Incredibles 2 got nominated for anything)

well anyway ive gone on long enough about this, lemme know what y’all think.  really the only nom im iffy about when it comes to this movie is Best Picture, but the others i think are well enough deserved, especially costume design.  so i guess the one thing i struggle with is this: does a movie becoming a pop culture phenomenon and being groundbreaking in its cast and crew count as enough for it to be nominated for the top prize of the wiener awards, despite any fallbacks in script, direction, and acting?  idk man im just hoping it doesnt get the award by default or something but then again maybe after watching all the other nominees it may turn out that the rest of them were worse than Black Panther i guess i’ll have to find out

like for example with this pic of shep making J/G “kiss”. shep must have been like “why should i make you kiss when you never do it in real life???” and when he’s older he’ll get that he was just being used like a tool for his parents’ bearding. that’s why i wonder how will that make him feel? or with that ad jared did where he used tom and shep to prove he has the perfect straight family (and now you can add the popandsuki video with poor odette being used right after her birth with her brothers) or with this jj pic that she will remember as a nice birthday with her parents but when she’s older she’ll see they used it to project this fake idea to the world that they have a totally traditionnal family

 i think that j2 are letting the kids assume they’re inlove with the moms, we see with the pictures and video they post in which thekids witness their parents acting like a couple and the kids , just like thegeneral public, believe it. They are letting our heteronormative society do thejob so the kids think « i have a mom and a dad who spend time togetherwith me so they must be in love » it’s the logical thought process mostpeople have

J2 are lying by omission to their kids so that the kids willnever go and talk to their friends or teachers like « mom and dad aren’t inlove but dad is in love with my uncle » . If the kids believe their bio parents are in love theyll never be able to sell j2’s secret so its notsurprising j2 do that to protect this secret they’ve had for so long, ruiningit by letting their guards down around their kids would be a waste. They’re notgonna take such an unecessary risk and it’s way easier to let the kids form thesame opinion that the public has because what can they possibly say to explainsuch a situation « so kids if you see dad kiss and cuddle with your uncleand sleep in the same bed , while you never see dad do the same with mom whenthere are no cameras around : it’s PERFECTLY normal ! don’t worry !But there’s  one very important thing youmust remember : it’s that you must NEVER EVER talk about that toanyone !! -About not keeping their hands to themselves : if j2 canhandle not touching/kissing during filming and conventions and everytimethey’re in public im more than certain that they don’t have any troublebehaving when with their kids and even if they did act very touchy and allwhile not acting this way with the mom there’s still no reason for the kids tobelieve that « my dad and my uncle are in love » because again wereally are in a heteronormative society where same sex people doing very lovingand tender stuff are just « guys being dudes » and « galpals » (and j2 take advantage of that to hide so that even with ALL thetime they spend together people still think they’re straight and that includestheir kids) And they’re not pretending in front of their kids, they don’t kissthe wives when there are no cameras around but that doesn’t mean that they’dkiss each other in front of the kids either you know ? it’s not becausethey don’t kiss or hold hands that they’re pretending. I f theymanage time to work on their intimate relationship or act romantic in private,Im sure they can handle keeping their hands to themselves when they’re takingcare of their kids, they’ve been doing that for 12 years and it must be hardsometimes but it’s the price they chose to pay to keep working on spn and theywon’t take the risk of being outed by their kids or of messing with their kids’heads just so they can hold hands

-About raising the kids as family : Im sure the kids cansee that j2 love each other but they don’t get the extent of this love and imsure they see j2 love all of them but i think j2 spend more time with their biokids than with the others for bearding purposes and if you went to jj and askher if tom and shep are her brothers im sure she’ll be like ??? no theyremy best friends or something like that and if you ask her who her parents areshe won’t include jared and same for tom and shep with jensen

What really makes me believe they hide their truerelationship to the kids is that it’d really confuse them because if the kidssaw j2 kiss , j2 would have to discuss and explain this situation (because ontv and in their lives the kids never see other peoples dad and uncle kiss, orpeople who are not married and not officially dating kiss each other, or ifthey do see that they must know it’s cheating and dishonest and overall weird,if j2 did that the kids would know it’s not a normal situation and would askquestions either to j2 or people around them which would lead to j2 beingouted) but the kids are way too young to understand what’s at stake and if j2let the kids see them kiss and still NOT explain what’s the deal. It would beSO confusing and very unhealthy to leave the kids with unanswered questions andadd the risk of outing to all that

Im pretty sure no one in the lgbt community would condonewhat j2 are doing, the lies they are furthering THANKS to their kids. Even ifj2 came out, i doubt the community will be proud of what they’ve done, thelenghts they went to (involving kids) to hide their sexuality

And if you want a comparison to know how a closeted gay man can have a kid without using said kid to further his straight image just look atCristiano ronaldo. He’s working in THE most homophobic business EVER and yet he’snot married to a woman, he has beards but he’s not pretending to raise his kid (thathe had with an anonymous surrogate) with a woman. Hes not affraid of postingfamily pics and being constantly seen with his long term partner ricky regufe.He’s not trying so hard to sell the perfect family image like j2 have done andhe did not get stupidly trapped by greedy beards like j2 did

J2 are incredibly nice and hard working guys and they don’tdeserve to live like this but involvinginnocent kids in this mess is just wrong

The Fate of the Furious: Dom and Letty

This will be full of spoilers, so I’m gonna cut it, but I’ve been bombarded on Instagram with questions that I hope this post will answer… Feel free to ask anything it doesn’t. My inbox’s always open. It’s a very fangirl-ish post.

So, someone asked me how the movie can still be worth seeing, if Dom’s the father of Elena’s baby - which he is - and here’s why:

You have to keep in mind that I met Vin like 15 minutes before the screening started, so it was very hard for me to focus during the first 20 minutes or so, and basically the duration of the film. This might not be a 100% accurate cuz I’m sure I missed some of the details, but it’s still what happens in the movie... One way or the other.

First of all, the scene we’ve been waiting for - the bed scene. They were SO IN LOVE in that moment, like two teenagers, that I can accept the fact it was way too short. Letty mentions them seeing a dad and his son and that she thinks he’ll be a great father, and then, if I remember correctly, he lifts the blanket a little and touches her belly and she laughs and says she’s not pregnant and that cute little laugh of her KILLED ME! So sweet omg! She also kisses his chest and touches his chin which I thought was just super adorable. She says “Look at that smile” when she sees that lovey dovey look on his face and that she loves seeing him happy or he says he’s happy. Can’t remember the exact words but one of them definitely mentions happiness and it was so fucking cute, y’all gonna squeal, trust me! Also, when Letty tells him she’s not pregnant (THAT CHUCKLE THO 😍) and says “We need to think about why we never asked the question” or somethin, his smirk was so fucking cute! I DIED! The happiness that radiates from the both of them is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life I really can’t! And when she mentions his smile I was beyond done!!! FUCKING OMG!

My second favorite scene is when they reunited��� or the alley scene… I’m not sure yet… THEIR REUNION CUZ OF THE SMOOCHES AND THE HUGGING! I CANNOT DEAL! So, as we’ve seen in one trailer, Dom jumps his car over the sub and it crashes, but he manages to get out before that happens. Then the sub blows up and since he has no cover, the team shields him from the heat with their cars. I really liked that scene, ‘cause it shows how much of a damn family they are even after all this shit Dom pulled! Then Letty gets out of her car and walks towards him while he’s getting up from the ground and he’s like “I have a lot to explain” and she goes “Starting with that bitch” 😂  They kiss and it’s so cute! Camera focuses on Rome (their faces are blurry but you can still see them smooching) and he says something like “Now THAT’S the Dom I know” That was so sweet and funny! And then the focus goes back on Dom and Letty and they hug and it’s not just any kind of hug but one of those I’m holding the most precious human being in the entire universe in my arms kinda hug and he tells her “You know I never left you… I never will.” and they kiss again…… The way she chuckles mentioning that bitch! She just seems so happy, so relieved! They both do! I think they give each other like 3 little kisses or so and the hugs are emotional af! I think they even let go for a quick second and then hug again, because it feels so damn right. And I was sitting there like CAUSE OF DEATH: CUTENESS! And when he’s already back with the fam and Letty’s in danger but then saves herself by pulling a stunt with her car he’s like “That’s my girl” and I literally squealed so hard cuz HE WAS SO GODDAMN PROUD OF HIS GIRL! I NEEDED JESUS!

Also there’s one point where he’s still bad and they drive next to each other and the looks were killing me! Them too, I think! But then later you have like almost the exact moment where he’s back with the team and I just fucking LOVE how different it is. Letty’s smile!!!!

The scene in the alley where he’s chasing after her cuz she got the case was so intense! I imagined it to be, but it was NOTHING like I imagined it to be. It was WORSE! Even more intense than I ever could’ve imagined! I had TEARS in my eyes during that scene! He sees her getting away and you can tell he’s torn, like he doesn’t wanna stop her but he knows he has to, and so he fires his gun in the air and then happens what we see happening in the trailer. They talk and she tells him “I don’t know why you’re doing this, but I know one thing… You love me and you are not gonna shoot me.” And when she walks away and turns the corner, Rhodes is there putting a gun to Letty’s head. And then Dom puts a gun to Rhodes head (I SCREAMED BECAUSE YAY DOM!) and he’s ready to pull the trigger. You gotta love that no matter how much he wants to protect that baby, his and Elena’s baby, he’s willing to risk that baby getting killed to save his wife. Y’all go watch that scene and tell me it doesn’t mean that his wife is more important to him than that son he’s got and I call you a fucking liar because DAMN! LETTY IS HIS HEART! Anyway, Letty lets go of the case and Dom and Rhodes leave, and the moment Dom’s out of sight, I WAS CRUSHED cuz she breaks down crying I mean she tries not to cry but that doesn’t work very well. She literally tries to steady herself grabbing the wall cuz she knows if she doesn’t do that, she’s gonna fall to the floor and drown in her puddle of tears. It broke my fucking heart! SERIOUSLY I ALMOST CRIED WTF IS MITCHY DOING KILLING ME WITH DA ACTING! 😭 Her emotion in that scene! Dammit! I was a 1000% done!

When Ramsay says they might have to accept the fact that Dom really has gone rogue and insinuated that they should give up on him you hear a loud bang which is Letty slamming the car door shut and then she says like “You wouldn’t even be breathing right now if it weren’t for Dom. He saved you!” and walks past her bumping her shoulder! QUEEN! And Roman goes “You’re just gonna let her do that? Bump your shoulder like that? I mean it was pretty aggressive” Ramsey sits down in front of her laptop and Rome says “What? You’re gonna write her an email?” 😂😂😂 Honestly, even though I kinda knew what to expect, that movie made me feel uneasy af, so every lil’ laugh I could get out of it was a true blessing! So, thank you Roman.

One thing that absolutely disgusted me was the emotion between Dom and Elena. You gotta prepare for that. That was honestly the ONLY thing I didn’t like. And well, the fact that he calls the kid Brian, which is stupid af, but I just pretend his name is Marcus, and Marcus only, so it’s cool. Smh. But about that emotion… When Dom is on the plane and Cipher’s like “I think I have to remind you why you choose to do this” he gets to see Elena. And his face when he sees that baby was a bit odd to me cuz I thought he saw that kid already when Cipher handed him that phone in Cuba… Maybe it was seeing him face to face for the first time, Idk… Anyway, Elena puts her hand up to the glass that separates them, he puts his hand up too. So they touch but not really, you know? And I was screaming internally like WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING THAT YOU IDIOT!!! There was just too much emotion… It kinda grossed me out. It felt pretty intimate to me and I don’t like to think of those two that way. There wasn’t a longing look on his face or love in his eyes or anything, but there definitely was SOMETHING in his eyes and I didn’t like it. I didn’t want him to be looking at Elena that way. Whatever way! I hated it! And I also kinda hated seeing him cry when he sees his kid and him telling Cipher that the most painful moment for him was his son reaching out for him and Dom not being able to touch him… I wish his painful moment had been about Letty… Oh, and Dom looks up to the sky during the BBQ scene (to dead!Elena) and says “I’ll take good care of OUR son” Ugh like why the fuck did he say that? But well, I realized fairly quickly that there’s a solution to this problem and it’s to focus on what’s happening between Dom and Letty cuz if you’re able to ignore that Dom and Elena shit by focusing on the emotion between Dom and Letty, you’re gonna experience one hell of a ride going through all kinds of emotion and it’s fucking epic!

The end scene needs to go up on that list of scenes that are my fav, because it was really beautiful! I always said to people who asked me that I might be able to accept this baby, if I truly believe Letty’s happy and if I don’t have the feeling like this was something that was forced on her, y’know? And tbh, she is so very happy in that last bit! It IS a matter of opinion after all, I guess, but to me, she only seemed a little bummed out that the baby isn’t hers. Just a wee bit. She did seem more like she was just happy to have him back and see him happy and I also think it helped her that the baby was so cute and there was no drama with the baby mama to expect because Elena’s dead.  The ending wasn’t even that out of character for me. For Letty, I mean. Just something about it made me feel like I understood why she doesn’t freak out or get mad at him and leaves his sorry ass… Like I said, whatever talk they had about the baby, she didn’t seem like she was pushed to be there. She seemed like she totally wanted to be there. By Dom’s side. With this baby.

When Dom waits for Deckard to arrive with his kid, she stands next to him, and she gets close to him and smiles, saying “Dont worry, he’ll be here soon” and then she pecks him on the arm and that was such a sweet little thing she did there, such a sweet little kiss… I STILL CANNOT! And the moment when Dom introduces his son to her and says she’s the most important person in his universe she got so shy and her smile was so sweet! It was so fucking adorbs HELP ME 😍😍😍  There’s another scene where Dom holds the baby and she says he (the baby) looks cute and then Dom tightens his grip around her and it is such a beautiful moment tbh… They looked so happy omg 😭❤ Maybe she says he’s adorable but she definitely says something about the baby that just makes him so fucking smile and happy and God it is so sweet you don’t wanna miss it for the world! That’s why I’m saying you gotta see it! It’s so easy to ignore the whole Elena thing cuz our babies are so so fucking cute in that movie and precious and THE FOCUS OF ATTENTION! So many times where the camera’s on Letty and we see how she feels even if she’s not saying anything and with Dom too and the vibe they were giving me in that last scene was like they went right back into honeymoon mode after that BBQ like they probably gave the baby to the guys and got right on to that 😂 They really seemed like they couldn’t wait to get back to that thing they were doing in Cuba 😏👉👌😇

Only like a very tiny part of me. I didn’t know I’d be feeling like this after watching it tbh. I expected to be disappointed. I’m so glad I saw it because I’m really not that pissed anymore. A little maybe. I’m still pissed they did this baby thing, they should’ve casted an older baby not to mess up the timeline (Elena says she found out before he went to get Letty back so at least he’s not a cheater!), but I do love the movie. A LOT. Simply because it’s all about them. About their love and how strong it is. Can’t hate that can ya? Those scenes between Dom and Letty are full of love, hurt, desperation, longing, … so many things, and F. Gary did an awesome job capturing that. And I swear, Vinchelle brought their A-fucking-game! Their acting is off the charts! Insane! Especially in those moments they have together. So yeah… Letty not being the mother of his first child sucks an awful lot, but that movie screams! It screams, Letty is his true love, his one and only, and they literally can get through anything. Any. Fucking. Little. Thing. They love each other so much and they’re my babies and like I said I cried at some points 😭❤ Seeing the movie was really good for me. It helped me cope with this huge mess we were thrown into. I seriously can’t wait to see it again! I wouldn’t be surprised if you feel the same but OMG the scene where they reunite is absolutely beautiful! All the smooching and hugging and the way they both chuckle! God that was the fanficiest moment of them all I think 😂

Alright so the last review was a lot of fun, so I kind of want to do another one. I dont know who is even reading these but it's a blast watching these with a critical mind rather than a fanboy one and writing a semi professional review. I think I'm going to make a hobby of this. Anyways.

So this one I was actually a lot more hopeful for than I was for Aladdin. Maybe as a result I was....let down more than I was watching Aladdin. I am actually writing this after about the first 20 minutes of the film. I'm not going to post until I'm finished with it, but I dont see a lot changing here, and you will know why in a moment, so don't hold your breath for a rollercoaster review, because it's going to be about as flat as the film was.

So going in, I knew what I signed up for at least. Sarah was a little bitter, having to rewatch the first 15 minutes again. I'm going to say this is almost a SHOT for SHOT remake. I mean FRAME FOR FRIGGING FRAME, LINE FOR LINE. Even the timing is ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME. Honestly I might be just as much to blame for this as the next guy. I wear nostalgia glasses loudly and proudly. Just take a look at my living room. But the further I got into this thing the more I found myself asking "Is this truly what I wanted?" A few points before I finish this thought, because I am definitely going to lose my train of thought between the baby and the continuing movie.

-This feels like Disney wanted to go shot for shot, and only partially committed. Shots were almost copied verbatim, could have been traced in some cases, but because they were going live action.....I dont know how else to explain it but if there were an uncanny valley for animated animals it undoubtedly lives here, in the "Pridelands".

-Unfortunately the voice casting suffers a bit here too. It certainly isnt helped by the...lifeless animation (yes I know live action animals dont generally emote, but for christ's sake all things considered it's the goddamned Lion King. Come on now), but the performances are largely flat and dull. Standouts in disappointment especially pointed at the death of Mufasa, large parts of James Earl Jones' performance (mostly just because you can hear the age in his voice, where in 1994 he sounds about where he should have been age wise. There is a youthfulness in his wisdom that literally is bringing tears to my eyes thinking of the strength of that performance, compared to this one), NOT Jeremy Irons, oh sorry, Chiwetel Ejifor, and the shameless insertion of Beyonce (sorry folks, she is the Kristen Stewart of voice acting, and clearly in it just for the money as opposed to actually adding anything to the craft).

-There should not have been so much freedom allowed with the musical performances. With a couple small exceptions, The vocal performances were stale. It kind of felt like the performances were a meal and SO much was eaten up by the original performers that there just wasn't much left for the usurpers, or that they just didnt know what the hell to do with it.

-All hate aside, this film is visually stunning. I sort of hated the animal performances, or lack thereof anyways, but it is still a beautifully realized film. My favorite scene visually is 1000% where Simba is speaking with the spirit of his father, and the lightning is rolling through the clouds, outlining parts that look like a lion's head, instead of outright just being fully visible. Fucking beautiful. (By the way, we just got through the final fight between Scar and Simba. I didnt know it was possible to trace a cartoon with a computer but they did it. W......T......F......of course it has to happen as I'm complimenting it.....)

-Seth Rogan and Billy Eichner were pretty charming. The only outstanding performances in the movie from top to bottom. That said, Donald Glover was pretty good too. Speaking of exceptional performances in the face of an overall poorly performed film, my OTHER favorite part of the film was the three of them singing The Lion Sleeps and running through the oasis. Holy shit that was charming.

-Sad and kind of disappointing was the fact that the VERY little original writing, or improv, or whatever the hell it was was really good. I loved the quipping between Timon and Pumbaa, and it was REALLY good when it went a little meta. The fart joke and the piece about "Be our guest" was immediately recognized as both reverent reference and irreverent ribbing and was appreciated by both me and Sarah. Sort of shines a disappointing eye on Jon Favreau. I loved what he was able to accomplish with The Jungle Book. I realize he probably didnt do a lot of the screenwriting on either film, but with producer credits comes criticism for laziness where high quality is expected. Cmon man, I love what you do. SO DO IT ALREADY.

-I largely think this film could have been helped on a few fronts with one improvement. OR possibly changing a way the movie was put together, that is, if what I THINK happened was what actually happened. Animated films originally gave you a at minimum believable performance by capturing the physical performance of the voice actor performing ADR, and giving a rough animation estimate of that performance, since movement and expression largely impact what comes out vocally. I am not 100% sure that isn't what happened, but it FEELS like it didnt happen. If animating aspects of physical performances isnt the route, I genuinely think that having a sort of facial motion capture coupled with ACTUAL emoting could have drastically improved performances. It's interesting to see what happens when you put primarily voice actors in front of a camera, or primarily screen/stage actors in front of an ADR microphone. You can truly see the depth (or sometimes lack of) of their abilities as actors. One of my absolute favorite voice actors is Bryan Cranston, for that very reason. Unbelievable performer, in every arena. One of my least favorites is FUCKING BEYONCE. Goddamn is she a one trick pony, if that trick was simply existing. Truly a MASTER OF THAT CRAFT. That said, its 2019 (at that point), if we can give Andy Serkis EVERY tool to be successful, Disney should be able to put out a LITTLE Disney money to allow their actors to, you know, act.

Long (looooooooooooooooong) story made super short is The Lion King (2019) is more of the same, and symptomatic of a problem we created for ourselves: Shameless money grabs at nostalgia. Disney miscued like crazy at remaking a thing I didn't realize until only now how precious it was to me as a kid. Couple that with the fact that they have done SIGNIFICANTLY better doing the same thing but doing a different take, with a different, more modern and possibly more poignant message (I'm looking DIRECTLY at you, Maleficent). Honestly, as much as it KILLS the kid in me to say it, leave the sacred cows alone. Sometimes a good thing just needs to be left to be admired. Nobody ever thought they needed to improve on, say, Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, or Ridley Scott's Blade Runner with a sequel or a remake. Wait. Shit. I mean Lewis Carroll's Alice in WonderlandGODDAMNIT. I QUIT.

Verdict--4/10. Seriously please make it stop at Mulan. I really want to see that one, see it not suck, and see it STOP. And for the love of god PLEASE DONT CAST BEYONCE IN IT.

EPISODE 4 - “THE WILDCATS NEED TO POP IN HERE AND TELL THEM TO GET THEIR HEADS IN THE GAME” - JC

Basically, this “choosing your own tribe” twist is very beneficial to my game. I told a big group of people to go on this tribe, so I have 5/7 (including me) people on my side. That is great, even if we lose a lot of challenges. Since almost everyone is loyal to me, I can pick and choose the people that I want for my alliance. Also, I’m glad jaiden is here, because now we know who is the first to go when its time to vote somebody out. I just hope they don’t connect the dots and realize I have connections to almost everybody here. Anyway, things are looking up in my game currently. Even if we get down to the wire and we keep losing challenges, I am not worried, I can make it through. Plus, when I get to the merge, the other tribe will be fractured, almost guaranteed, and I will be able to maneuver through the game, especially since I have an ally in Isaac over there.

The big problem is that I'm going home. That's pretty much what it's come down to for me now. No one on the tribe I chose wants to work on the competition and no one really wants to talk to me, either. Once again, there's such a depression in the game being left by everyone's silence that it makes me forget that I'm even here sometimes? 

RJ tossed around the idea of throwing the challenge and just voting me out. Surprisingly enough, the person who literally does videography in their actual life is somehow too busy to even bother attempting this challenge for their tribe. It seems so easy for me to just give up and say that not much was lost, and I almost wanna just lay down and let these people vote me out. 

Yet, there is still a fight left in me. It's a smoldering pile of rubble, because the flame that once occupied the same space had gone and burned every bridge I had in the game. The flame was a sign of my own rebellion I guess, because I never go down without a fight. That's not changing today. 

If we still lose this challenge, I won't let myself lose the game, too. I wanna win.

Liana is mad at me and I feel so bad D: I didnt mean to hurt her feelings :'( me Allison Andre wand Isaac should have added her to that cat right when it was made and not kept it a secret. Also I'm pretty sure my tribe had a heartattack and that me and ryan palmer are the only ones alive.

I would say that I'm sad that we lost but I can't complain. I literally did not help AT ALL with the comp so i shouldn't say anything. I don't know who I want to vote out. Honestly I don't even remember who is on my tribe rip

I don't know how to articulate myself when I'm under duress, so for this confessional I'll just link some gifs in order to express my emotions better.

First of all, we lost immunity. I tried so fucking hard in the last hour to put that shit together because no one else wanted to do anything (@RJ AND LIANA)

Then, I kind of realized that yea, I'm probably fucked. These are the people who planned on throwing immunity to get me voted out, and although they're all like "oh well we won't vote you out, you did the challenge!" my inner thoughts are telling me otherwise.

In my opinion, the person that should go home tomorrow is RJ. He's a fucking videographer, film-maker, what the fuck ever, and he's like "sorry I can't do this challenge". Bullshit RJ, if you don't have time for this challenge, you don't have time for this game. I want to get the pen and parchment and write his name down right now, for fucks sake. 

However, I know that Liana didn't do anything either. We all know that. She's a nice girl, but she is a huge threat. In her Storybook games, she has quit before. Maybe she'll quit now. Maybe something came up and now she has no time to finish this game, either. I'm going back to my inner thoughts now!

Right now, I have to try and get Zack, JC, and Sam B to trust me fully. I need them to vote to keep me this round. My life literally depends on trust that I haven't given out to other people. I'm going to spend the whole next day just BEGGING people to trust me and work with me because I have no idea what's going to happen next.

I don't wanna get voted out of All Stars because I have a ton of supporters coming into this. At least I think so. I don't want to let anyone down because FOR ONCE I actually have the desire to win a game. I WANNA WIN SOMETHING, OK?????? Winning is all that matters to me and I wanna scream sometimes because I dont think it's realistic that I will win this game, at least not now. I've already embarrassed myself on National Television coming out here, so like... is it enough?

Right now, the vote comes down to trust. *I* trust JC and Sam G more than anyone else on this tribe, but do *they* trust me? And what about Zack, because I know he's got reasons to not trust me after I exposed the alliance with RJ to the entire arena chat. Then, there's Sam B who is so bland when you talk to her that you can't tell where her head is at completely. Is she with me, or is she against me? She says she's with me but your word is not always your bond. Sam G and I are really close, because she told me that RJ is her contract. If we get him out, she gets the clue to the idol. I won't ask her for it because that's her choice, but if she decided to give me the clue then I understand how it is, too. But she knows people that have hosted me and I think she's aware that I play chaotically, but I am 100% loyal to her at all costs in this game. She has so much dirt accessible about me that it does concern me a lot, but... she's becoming my friend now.

And then, after we lose and everything, I'm talking and so is JC and Zack. Then Constance comes walking in all high and mighty, whipping her fake ass hair in mine and Zack's faces and immediately saying "Hi JC" for no fucking reason. She literally is the dumbest person when it comes to social game because you don't just come into a chat, say hello to ONE PERSON out of the multiple that are there. No matter how petty you want to be, that's fucking stupid. But Constance will be Constance, always there metaphorically screaming in my ear with her selfies every single day trying to get the attention of everyone.

These people are like, acting so cool all the time and I can't stand them. Maybe the same is being said about me because I totally walk around here like I'm hot shit FREQUENTLY and try to act like a badass, but I'm really not.

Tomorrow night, I'm hoping things go my way. I really hope I stay tonight. I wish I could be iconic and pull out an idol or two, but luck wasn't in my favor all the times I went searching for the thing. Implicit bias is something I learned about in psychology class and I think luck had nothing to do with my decisions, because obviously I'm going to be biased against the places that seem like they wouldn't have the hidden immunity idol. See, haters? I learn things. Shit might hit the fan if I pull off a move against RJ or Liana. Who knows where Zack's loyalty really lies? I'm considering lots of scenarios, but unfortunately, this isn't one of them.

I'm finally not going to a tribal in this game! It's really relieving considering I wouldn't have really wanted to vote anyone out on the tribe. Ryan may have ended up being targeted (even if he was the only one to put effort into the challenge) and that would have been a conflict of interest. So the tribe may have had to settle for Constance or Jake. I would have preferred Constance going but she's being seen as a potential number for the Isaac/Liana side, and I want Jake in my pocket. It seems like a lot of people have "players in their pocket" so why can't I?

Okay weird tangent pertaining to Jake and the Genz people as a whole. So the Genz alliance died... and I couldn't be happier! See, that alliance put a huge target on all of our backs from the start. So there had to be some methodical ways to break it up from the inside without letting it get too messy for ME in particular. A lot of what happened was kinda natural shit/conflict going down that I kinda just let happen:

-Taking out Brian was the first instance I saw where that could cause cracks. Brian was super close to Liana and RJ and I couldn't fully trust him. Had I voted Dylan like I was supposed to the first round, it would have tied and who knew what would have happened.

-The Ryan and Liana conflict has kinda worked itself out beautifully. Ryan threw the Genz alliance out in the open to Dylan, someone who Liana had control over. They get pissed, and I'm there for both of them complain to. I don't let the conflict resolve, but I just get all the tea. And now they don't trust each other (to my satisfaction tbh).

-Bernel going out was another fun instance of things naturally falling into my lap. Jaiden getting to the Oasis ended being a blessing in disguise seeing as we were immediately able to vote out a slightly more inactive wild card in Bernel. Another Genz number that I didn't necessarily want is gone. 

-Now I'm close to Ryan and Liana separately. Jake doesn't seem to be doing much but does trust Ryan. And I don't talk to him much but, I'm hoping Jake will trust me as well.

ANYWAY

We're saved thanks to RTP and Daddy Ken. A sentence I never thought I would ever say. And to go back to the Jaiden going to the Oasis as a blessing in disguise thing... not only did allow for Bernel to go BUT it also just made Jaiden the seemingly easy vote for next round. And then we'll be at final 13. Fuck, is merge/jury soon? *screams* Well in time for that... I have to reconvene. It seems like a lot of loose voting blocks are happening, but I want myself, Isaac, Allison, and Jordan to be a consistent one. Liana got mad when she found out that existed so I'm not sure if she's included in that or not/wants to be? Idk man. I'm just trying to play in a way that I'm the target the least amount of time as possible. And I need numbers to keep it that way.

So yesterday, I got talking to JC. Before I started off, I said that I wanted none of what I said to become part of the strategy. I wanted what I said to be a personal conversation, between me and them only. Not for the hosts, not for the confessionals, not for the other players, and not about the game anymore.

I told JC that I wanted to quit.

I basically said that I was only here to play for them and people that deserved to win, trying to get these people further in the game instead of myself. I said that I wanted to give up because I was so stressed out about this game that it made it such a negative experience to really even carry on. The game that I was playing to allow myself to win was too difficult for me to continue and I made it clear to JC that I had no desire to continue to play for the win, and that I just wanted them to win instead. If I left the game, they would likely end up losing because they don't have the number or the "shield" that I could be going forward. I don't know if JC believed what I said, but we discussed it for a little bit. Maybe they went and told everyone else all of these things, but the truth is...

I still wanna win. Obviously.

What I said to JC was meant as a surrender speech so it seems like I'm not going to play aggressively like usual anymore. JC knows how I play, so I had to come up with something to make myself seem like less of a threat when I know I'm still going to play the same way. Yes, I want to go to the end with JC, but I want to beat them, and I'm going to.

After this conversation was over, I went and talked to Zack. We talked personally about Raccoon City, a bunch of other stuff, and a little bit about the game. I laid it out that I want to go to the final three with Zack and JC, so now it's out in the open to both of them where my intentions lie. Zack is extremely loyal and I think that's good enough evidence that I need to stick with them for as long as possible.

I'm going to really try and sell this idea that I'm here for the team, not for myself. If I convince Liana to vote for someone other than myself, there is a better chance that I won't get voted out tonight. I wanna continue taking things day by day because success doesn't happen overnight, especially when everyone is pre-merge in this game. I expect lots of twists regarding tribe divisions while this game continues so I need to keep on my toes with my social game. The people who are likely to flip to the Arma tribe need to go faster than someone who will remain loyal to Occidere tribe, which is what I want to say. I won't flip to the Arma tribe of course, but who's to say that RJ or Liana or Sam B won't?

All that matters now is that I remain out of the crosshairs.

I literally did nothing for the challenge but at least I'm not the only one. I'm sure people want to target me for being inactive but I'm also hearing some other stuff. People might want Liana and that honestly scares me because Liana tries to keep me informed. Everything I know about random alliances and stuff has come from Liana. I'm trying to think of a way to save her and I might have an idea. If Zack, Sam B, and JC want to vote Liana, they need me or Jaiden to do it. So if Jaiden and I just go to Liana and RJ and say 'hey Liana, they wanna vote for you' maybe the four of us could vote together and take out Zack or Sam B. As long as they don't want JC then we should be good.

I LIKE OUR CONVERSATIONS. yes liana is a HUGE threat and is in a majority alliance but liana is someone who could help our tribe right now and help us win immunities. but on the other hand.. i stayed loyal to someone in raccoon city who has a huge target and was in major alliances. and look where that got me? second place. i'm not here to play for second place AGAIN. i need to do what i need to do and the alliance i'm in with jc and samantha made me realize that. i wanted to vote for sam's ass to leave because she ain't ever even pm me but whatever! am i lowkey hoping liana stays? i won't confirm or deny. but like i said before.. i'm here for first place.

Actually, I'm in a pretty curious position right now. The entire tribe has woken up and everyone minus RJ is talking to me. They're all discussing the option of blindsiding Liana at this tribal council, leaving RJ aside for next round. He's the easy vote in this case, but we have to save him for later. I personally think RJ is still a bigger threat than Liana, but I'll let it go for now.

Zack, JC, Sam B, and Sam G are planning on voting for Liana. RJ and Liana are planning on voting for me. It makes complete sense for me to vote out Liana and let her go, but at the same time I could always flip and bring Sam G over with me, and blindside someone else like JC or Sam B.

Sam G might have let it slip to Liana that her name is being written down tonight. In which case, I have to make a decision. I can side with Liana and RJ, hoping that Sam G follows suit, or I can stick with the numbers I know are certain and get rid of Liana.

Trust is super hard to come by in this game and I trust JC more than anyone. I also think that I can trust Zack, but his loyalty is only something that he gives on his own terms. If Zack isn't down with me, it doesn't matter that I'm down for him. I trust Sam G but she's looking to "make a big move" against the threesome of Zack, JC, and Sam B and that's super complicated and nerve-wracking because then I'll be left with two people who are pissed off at me, and then Liana and RJ who were willing to vote me out last round.

I think my mind is made up what I'm going to have to do tonight, but crazier things have happened and I've changed my mind before. I'm so nervous.

Okay so like what is up with my allies omg. The Wildcats need to pop in here and tell them to get their heads in the game!!! Idk this is hella difficult but I think I'll be in the numbers to be safe for this vote at least for how things are going right now. And omg I was sooo bored yesterday and basically I was messing around with everyone and Jaiden and I were being friendly which basically ousted our fake fight akzjxbzbz, and then Samantha, Zack and I were being friendly too and basically ousted our whole alliance! Mess!! But truthfully I 100% did not give a single fuck. Not one! Because like everyone in the main chat is so cliquey and like no one cares when Constance Jordan and Isaac constantly oust themselves so why should we care! Foh!

OMFG OK so like me being the charitable heart I am and wanting to send Liana home with a passion, I campaigned to send Liana home over other names that were flying around like Jaiden and Sam G. HOWEVER, some hoe decided to tell Liana her name had been brought up? MESS! Everyone is running around like chickens with they heads cut off omfgggg. Hunty could have an idol. If there's one thing I've learned this round, it's that drama is fun to watch, but not fun when it involves you! Yikes I hope I don't go home
