The top sketch is a direct reference to Cluedo! A spinoff game, "Missingo", starring certain familiar characters trying to figure out what happened to Ingo/trying to prove their innocence in the case! Also WIP sketches for these two Breakmas comic pages!

As you may know I adore butlermas! For the classy and stylish look which appeals to me in general, and coincidentally I had played PLA & got hit by submas train only one week before butler Ingo's banner rolled out! The pure bliss of finally meeting both twins in a game I felt was incomparable!! This moment in the Curious Tea Party event was really entertaining to me! We got to see submas get serious and stand up against this selfish collector thief! Two towering train twinks with commanding voices looming over the unfortunate guy was enough to make him change his mind ahah! They truly are the protectors

I wasn't happy with how I presented Elesa, I wasn't familiar enough with her character back then so I thought of her carrying a toy taser to threat her friend even as a joke was too much and I couldn't come up with anything else for it. This held me back from posting the other three pages for another 5 months! In the last panel

I prefer to not mess up the twins too much but my brain is still very curious and conjures some peculiar stuff like this sometimes.. Sketch version of the self-defense practise piece! I love getting creative with action stuff! I barely ever think of how difficult they are to draw, I just get so excited and fixated on visualising the scenes in my mind I just keep at it, pull out refs and pose in front of mirrors until it looks good to me! I want to draw more action scenes but besides being challenging to draw my brain comes up with more silly and cute ideas than cool ones unfortunately ahah

One more WIP, here's the link to the final results!! I really like how genuine their expressions look here even if the faces are a little off. I recall spending a long time figuring out this perspective. They barely handled one snape, let alone two!

But there were times were kids can get way too comfortable in matters that have no business with them, unfortunately for a certain fourth year Ravenclaw he learned his lesson the hard way.

"I can’t believe that git took points because I added a point to his lesson! It’s fucking ridiculous, he’s a selfish idiot who only wants his way and everyone else is wrong"

"Jesus calm down mate, it’s only ten points you’ll live and he’s like the professor so…"

The Ravenclaw rolled his eyes "I know the book, I read it piece to piece I know my way around this stuff, he’s just one bitter old son of a bitch-"

The boy swallowed, your tone was so different, you weren’t smiling and it reminded him of being schooled by severus snape himself.

You smiled proudly at the look of terror on the boy’s face "Let this be a lesson to you little bird, my brother is no idiot and without him little airheads and know it alls would be dead by now, so know your place, am I understood?" You tightened your grip on his shoulder.

The boy’s jaw dropped but didn’t dear argue back and sprinted away with his friends, you couldn’t care less that students were watching, they call all spread rumors or whatever.

to begin with, i have a litle post as a warning for laito headcanons, bc for me, laito is one of the most complex and difficult characters to undertands, so he is so much more than a perverted character and a leg lover (anime laito is terrible guys 💀💀)

his looks and selfcare

i think laito is a man that do care for his appearence, he ofc takes multiple showers in a week and loves to smell good, he often buy new perfumes with different scents just bc he loves it.

but unlike reiji, laito does not spend too much time doing skin care, he uses is good and never ending facial soap, its a bar of soap, a mint one. and about his hair, he also uses the same shampoo and conditioner, with argan and a little herb scent. laito loves cold showers, but quick, he is not a man to take his time, he is fast and dont waste time. mostly bc i belive laito dont really like being naked... alone.

i think laito do use sunscreen, bc he wants to have good skin as he ages (even if he is a vampire, let the man belive it).

and sometimes when laito is down i do belive he uses concealer to cover his eyebags, this doesnt happen often but has happened in the past.

something laito enjoy about getting ready is his hair, he uses dry repair creams, hair texturizer and hair oils to keep his ends healthy.

and as for clothes, i belive laito likes soft colors and not so saturated, but not pastel colors! maybe bc i also belive that colors affect his vision, like when people dont like to see neon colors in sports clothes, thats laito but not only with neon colors, he doesnt like too flashy and explosive colors. actually he loves the color blue.

i think laito is aware of how handsome he is, laito has a marked jaw, a slightly upturned nose and slanted eyes with a seductive and cautious gaze, but as well, his gaze can turn into a penetrating and deep one, making everyone tremble for how intense his eyes are, and not tremble in a good way, laito is scary.

i think laito also has pretty lips, but a little detail i like too, is that laito used to bite the skin of his lips in his early teen ages, giving himself tiny wounds. but Reiji always told him to use lip balm to heal these same wounds, although this only happened at certain times of the year, or sometimes when laito past through a stressful situation. over time he has been able to realize and apply his lip balm in time, leaving laitos lips with a slight shine always, it became a habit that he maintains, even if laito dont bite the skin of his lips anymore.

i also think that he instead of exercising, laito prefers to do another type of physical movement, such as walking or running, he does not like to lift weight to get muscle since he sees it illogical if he has inhuman strength, this gives him strong legs and calves of steel, he always shows his calves as a pride for himself. that also give him a lot of stamina not just for his body, but also his mind. running seems to be a perfect way to clear laito's mind. but that does'nt take away the wide shoulders, it runs in the family.

a little detail i like is that laito might have more moles in his body, like one in his hand, other in his neck, another one in his calves, and his back! but he doesnt get to see those.

and finally, unlike his olders brothers, shu and reiji, laito can grow a beard but he does'nt like it, he feels old.

random stuff

so, its no secret laito loves games, but i think laito does not like online or digital games, he is more into the classic, ofc its pool and darts, but he also likes board games, dice, marbles and everything related to something physical, does not have much interest in the digital world.

as a said before, laito loves perfumes, does not use the same one for a long time and constantly buys the last ones on the market to try them, not all of them are to his taste but he enjoys to collect them, he likes the flashy bottles.

and as a plus to laito, i think he is more romantic than you think, how so? he totally has a poetry noteboook where he writes every little pretty and romantic feelings laito has, i like to think he also do this with weird dreams so he can't forget them.

oh, and laito has a sensitive tongue, no reason for it, he can't tolerate spicy food or too sweet / salty, he hates it, reiji makes special food for him sometimes so he can enjoy his cooking as well. laito appreciates this.

and as i said before with shu, laito is such a goosip as well, but he is a bad goosip, laito likes to know everything about someting or someone, just bc he thinks he has to know what he likes, completly. that's a reason he has more interaction with his bat relatives, so they can tell him everything.

i like to think that laito is really jealous, like a lot.

i think laito has a secret interest in humans and their way of living, specifically, he is interested in religious topics, he had read Bibles although he found them boring, so prefers to see them captured in movies, and it is even better when they have another meaning than something literal, such as a biblical reference like mother or lamb. but still laito can't get how faith works for humans.

i think laito deep down, want to be more close to shu, mostly for his music collection and stuff but dont know how to adress him, so he just ocasionally ask shu for his disc and vinyls, i like to think that laito wishes to speak more to shu but its so distant that he never tries.

Lycaon tries not to be a helicopter parent, but you are his little girl, and nothing will ever change that. It's very well described with: "I'm not your little girl anymore, look at me, I'm practically an Adult" while all he sees is you as a small child still carrying your stuffed animals around with you wherever you went.

Sometimes he fears you'll feel ashamed for him, with him being an amputee and all. But you always make sure to reassure him about his insecurities, telling him he's the best dad ever, and it never fails to ease his nerves.

Lycaon doesn't force you to do anything you don't like. He has no issue if you don't want to take over the family business, he wants you to find something that you can pour your heart and soul into. However, the only thing he did force you to take were self defense classes.

In reality he dreads the idea of his past catching up with him, with you ending up in the crossfire. It's what robbs him of his sleep sometimes. But rest assured your dad will 1000% commit murder for you if he has to.

Other things both of you have in common include:

1. Both of you hate the dentist, and syringes. (No seriously, ya'll hate them.)

2. Both of you drink your tea the exact same way.

3. Both of you like the same snacks, so it's always a fight to get some before the other.

4. You watch your netflix series with him, and funnily enough, he get's very invested in them.

Both of you made the mistake of watching Riverdale once, and it turned into a running gag amongst you.

Whenever one of you had a weird day you'd say "Today was a Riverdale kinda day."

Over all: Lycaon is definetly a great dad, and would set heaven and hell into motion for you.

It has been talked about it in here a lot. This issue stems from John "knowing" everything and dictating people left and right. His partner is no exception.

Micromanagement king.

You gotta speak some serious boundaries with this man or he will guide you and correct you just as much as he will spoil you.

The captain is very perceptive and passionate. Sometimes this passion can turn into obsession. So be aware, if you lit a certain fire within him, he can accidentally burn you with it.

Simon Ghost Riley is our number two. Reboot version - creature of habit - his "own" habit. He will annoying you with his everyday routine and will take a long, long, long time to change it.

Not because he doesn't want to, but because it is hard for him to switch habits.

This includes "forgetting his partner exists", for like the first two weeks of your relationship.

He is loyal like a dog, but will literally your existence. May even tackle you to the ground, after you move in with him, because he though you are an intruder.

Will take your stuff, without asking, so he can have your scent and get used to you.

Also, very mean humor. If he likes you, he will make fun of you, with appropriate, only for him, jokes. (This is how he tests the waters)

Will move your relationship faster. Absolute cavemen behavior. (Blame it on efficiency)

Soap Mactavish. The Sergent, not the captain. ( for the captain, combine all you read about the sergent, minus the energy and passion. He has that tamed, since, well, he is a captain)

I am sorry, but he is a nuisance. Annoying boyfriend energy and clingy af. Loud, proud and always at your hip. On the plus side - he can do tricks on command.

Like a husky, he will whine and test your patience, and boundaries.

Has A LOT of energy. Basically Sanderson on steroids. Jumps and smacks you out of nowhere.

He does not know his own strength, sometimes you wondering he everything a human being, or how his bunkies are still alive?

Gaz is sassy and feels things pretty deeply. So I would be careful if I was you. Do not piss that boy off.

Also, if he headbutts with Price, or Price offers his opinion on you (paw paw is also the king of unsolicited advice) and Gaz dislikes it, he will get snappy at you. So I would avoid him, if he is in a mood.

Konig is not in the task force, but idgaf so let's go.

Very straight forward, blunt and egotistical. Kind of like Price, minus the empathy.

Will refuse to help, after he told you something didn't work and you did it anyway.

Will cave in after he remembers you are not a soldier and are someone he loves. (Or when you get mad at him)

He will get to his emotional side, eventually and drop the ego act, but until then - you are stuck with him being an ass.

hal is mysteriously sent to earth via unknown means and finds himself raising a baby as best as he can, which, given that he's glasses, is not easy. this is my favorite homestuck fic, not just because it's about hal, but also because i love the focus on family dynamics and the plot as it unfolds. begging everyone to read this, i can't say what happens exactly without spoiling things, it's just really really good. at the moment, it updates once a month

Ersatz Abyss by katreal mature - no archive warnings apply - 120,092 words - 39 chapters (unfinished) You look into the mirror to find your own face looking back at you. You laugh. And then you cry. Last, you try and figure out how you got to this moment. The Auto-Responder had long since resigned himself to an artificial existence, his only dwindling hope for escape hinging on a promise that has yet to be fulfilled. Then one day he wakes up, Dirk nowhere to be found. What's the point in getting what you want, if you can't show off a little?

another great hal fic. i managed to get my roommate (who has not read homestuck) to read this and they really enjoyed it, so i'm sure you all won't have any problems liking this one either. there are a lot of fics out there of hal getting a body, but this one is very different in that it's not the happy ending that you might first think it is. this fic perfects the feeling of everything snowballing into a bigger and bigger problem until it all falls apart

Falling for the First Time by nobrandhero teen - no warnings apply - 63,818 words - 11/17 chapters The game is over, Alpha Earth resets to 2009, and Dirk's bro doesn't live up to expectations. The movie director who appears so chill and stoic in interviews is actually a talkative, needy dweeb like his teenage counterpart. It's not a bad thing, as far as Dirk's concerned.

for whatever reason, i'm a sucker for fics where the characters somehow end up on earth again post-game, and out of all the fics that follow that concept this one is my favorite. sadly, this one barely touches on jane and jake, but it's pretty interesting to read about what dirk and roxy are getting up to with their guardians (and the earth) restored to their previous conditions

The Haunted Harley House by hemoanarchists teen - chose not to use archive warnings - 78,462 words - 23 chapters (finished) There is an old house you built a long long time ago, alongside someone very close to you. Now as you don a new name, slipping back into society to care for a descendant, to whom tragedy has left you as her only family left, you take her to the house, the house that bears your family name. You really shouldn't have been surprised when he came to join you. It is his house too, after all.

carlah, a young girl who lives on earth c, has just been taken in by her uncle "jacob harley" after her mother's death. as time goes on, she slowly learns more about the true nature of her new guardians and the house they all live in. normally i'm not that interested in OCs but i love how intriguing carlah is as an outsider of the story. it's really easy to get invested in her as she uncovers a mystery we all know from the beginning and another that we have to learn along with her. shoutout to dysfunctional family dynamics

actually, while i'm at it, i'm going to recommend a bunch of other stuff he's written:

prequel to the haunted harley house but can also be read after (or separately). i really like the dynamic between dirk and vriska here, and i also love the way vriska's repeated reincarnation is utilized. vriska's journey through the newest iteration of her life while dirk watches over her is soooo captivating, especially when snippets of her previous lives are sprinkled in throughout. do you guys love cycles? personally i love cycles

Cherubian mature - chose not to use archive warnings - 54,011 words - 29 chapters (unfinished) The 5000 year time skip never happened, at the dawn of time the gods desperately try to guide the planet into a better future. But with tensions rising it feels like one bad day could bring everything crumbling down.

all of dante's earth-c god fics as a whole changed my brain chemistry and this acts as the beginning (and catalyst) of that overarching story. a lot happens in a very short amount of time

Hey K, have you seen the controversy around Hugh Dancy’s answers to hannigram-related questions at the Fan expo? Some fans are mad saying he’s a Hannigram denier but I’ve been in this fandom for 11 years now and honestly, reading his answers, he’s still saying the same stuff he always did though? So I’m a bit confused as to why people are angry with his answers?

He always acknowledged they loved each other, that it was a romance, but platonic. Also, I think he’s got a very British sense of humor and is sarcastic and ironic a lot and was never really into discussing hannigram as an openly gay romance, but more so because he is a literal guy in the way he communicates. Tons of Brits are like that. Especially actors, they’re not keen on doing fan service or saying what people like to hear. Mads on the other hand, loves enticing the audience and talking about Hannigram the way they want to hear.

All in all, maybe it’s bc some of these people are new to the fandom, but I literally think that this was just Hugh being Hugh and he gave mostly the same responses as he’s done in the past. It’s a mix of his sense of humor and the tone of the fan expo which is light and not necessarily a proper interview where he’d be more serious and give long answers.

Hi! Yes, I know a lot of people were unhappy with Hugh's responses - I'm not watching the fandom as closely as I used to, but I'm still keeping an eye on it.

I agree with you in that I heard nothing new. In my opinion, the problem lies in the reputation of 'Hannibal' fandom. We're known as a (mostly) cozy place where the biggest M/M ship is canon and actively supported by cast, writers, and the director. They all said so many wonderful things over the years, things that keep being repeated and are taken as a fandom Bible.

That's why people might still be unpleasantly surprised when they hear Hugh's reserved, distant replies, or Mads' weirdly shallow answers, or Bryan's ideas that are all over the place.

The truth is, ten years separate these people from their work. Hugh in particular hasn't even seen S3 as a complete product, at least from what I lasted heard. Besides, they all have been inconsistent even when the show was airing - Hugh has an interesting habit of saying different things depending on what kind of interview he's giving and who he's with. As an example, in the commentary to S3, he agreed with Bryan that Will was jealous of Bedelia and snapping at her because of it, but then later, he said Will disliked Bedelia for basically being a bad person, with jealousy being unrelated to it.

I'll be the first person to admit that some of Hugh's (and others') answers make no sense or contradict the show, but over the years, I got very used to it, to the point where it doesn't faze me any longer.

Hugh thinks it would take Will 7 season to fall in love with Hannibal, even though 7 seasons haven't been in the plans for over a decade (as Bryan has settled on 5 ages ago), and Will's silence to Bedelia's question and his further choices clearly meant to show he reciprocates? Ok. Hugh things Will's feelings for Hannibal are unrelated to his feelings regarding his own darkness? Fine - at least he acknowledged Will is dark because sometimes there are some denials about it. He thinks Will's decision to betray Jack and Alana and get a bunch of innocent people killed has nothing to do with his love for Hannibal? Lol, but all right.

I don't believe S4 will ever happen. Now, if it's announced, and then I keep hearing the stuff I really don't like, I might get worried, but as it is, I just save the things I agree with and ignore the rest :D The show is over, and we are all invited to come up with our own version of Will and Hannibal's future life. I'm also absolutely certain that we, passionate fans, know the show much, much better than people who were involved in it a decade ago. I mean, if I finished writing a fic 2 years ago, then a reader who just read it will probably know it better than I do at this point. It's natural.

Also, during this reunion, so many wonderful things were said, too. About Hannibal inviting Molly 'for dinner' and Will describing him as a 'therapist' to her, Hannibal urging Will to lose at least a dog or two out of the thousand when they are on the run, Will being annoyed by Hannibal's fussy kitchen habits, etc.

Basically, I don't think we heard anything new or bad. Some answers might have been frustrating, but the good still tops the bad, in my opinion - and the bad isn't all that relevant.

For me, it always depends on the character which fantasies I dive more into. With uniforms it requires discipline, it's calculated and there's a certain coldness to it (which can be very sexy).

OH, you are playing with me. My other forever fav is Ramsay Bolton (from ASoIaF, I'm only into the book versions of the characters, because they are written differently). He's probably a lot worse than Jimmy, as he openly enjoys the torture he inflicts upon others and it also sexually arouses him (full blown sadist). I have drawn him for many years, but at one point I got into other things. But I still think about him fondly.

My embarrassing fantasy was always that I would like to "reward" him for his horrible deeds (slight mommy kink). I feel indifferent towards violence (unless it's of sexual nature... which I find thrilling, NOT TO ME, but him doing it to others). BUT, it arouses me to imagine such a cruel man doing what you described, and enjoying it. It's beautiful to me. Like a predator animal (I have already made this comment about one Jimmy art I have drawn) but yea... I guess it could be dangerous, but it's my fantasy and I can't help it... And I like to imagine, maybe even a man like this can crave some gentle touches, or NOT, hehe. I would want to give him some good (prostate) orgasms...., or massage him.... oh I want to lick every part of his body and smell him. Tie him up (but gently) I want to see his eyes rolled back in bliss.

There are often these two sides of the things I draw. I either portray the cruelty of the character itself (and him relishing in this moment), or my own horny desires done to him... (which he always enjoys, and after a while they take the upper hand and I end up drawing only "out of character" stuff like this haha). And for that reason I also like the "shipping" aspect, as I can project this fantasy and the character is doing it instead.

And I know, of course, who says he won't try to hurt me as well. But it's my fantasy after all... I know why I'm drawn to these characters..

I know there are some hard limits I simply can't get into, or talk about lol, but I try to enjoy these topics as much as possible... and just have a good time, tbh. And your ask was, blissful. It feels like intimacy to me.

I love the Headcanon that Sally is the author of the PJO books in universe, and that she published them under the pseudonym "Rick Riordan" so that people can't see it as a story written by a mother about her son trying to exonerate him to the public with a fantasy story. (Which it blatantly is)

And instead the public see's it as this middle aged male author taking one look at this cryptid of a kid who the government still has on a list of active domestic terrorists, and said "Yep, I'm going to fantasify his life to explain all the bullshit going on in it." And fill up the story with actual real people in the kids life, including explanations for certain celebrity children's reappearance (Thalia and Jason) or just very chaotic attitudes (Piper and all the other Celebrity Demi-Gods).

Sally probably has a supply of Mist that she has to order in bulk from Hermes whenever Rick Riordan has to make a book signing or public appearance, and just to really solidify the image that Rick and Sally are 2 different people, she asked Amphitrite or a sea Nymph to come on land and use the Mist to look like her, and they had a public meeting at a book signing.

And now, the best consequence of that? The Demi-Gods don't have to hide a lot of the Demi-God bullshit they say, because they can point at the books and say "oh, we really like the versions of us Rick Wrote, so now we sometimes joke amongst ourselves with Stuff like in the books." And nobody is gonna bat an eye at it. Percy could literally ask "Hey, does anybody want to see me gossip with Shamu?" On his Instagram account, and nobody is gonna give it a second thought.

"The confederate soldiers on my dad's old warship had better tact than you" said Clarisse to the guy who tried to hit on her in a bar during her ASU days, to the confusion of absolutely nobody, they all read the book.

And Sally doesn't stop at just the stories involving Percy, she does all the solo stories with Nico too, and you know how she gets all this information? The rest of the Demi-Gods have unofficially hired her as a therapist. And they just come to her and vent about their past and their quests, and she asks for permission to write about it so she can process it.

This is something I think about a lot because on the first glance it sounds like those fake scenarios in sci-fi movies when a character is trapped in an alternate reality and marrying someone he doesn't want to. In those cases they usually have a vision of their true love that break the fake reality or whatever. (and I would love to read a fic like this tbh, might even write one myself with how much I thought about this for the past year. Most people do not picture someone else while marrying the love of their lives just sayin)

But this is a real situation that happened to a real person so I think it's more complex than that.

The first thing we have to consider is why did Ryan say that? In front of a live audience on one of their first shows for season 2? I don't think there's an answer besides "he says stuff like that sometimes". Of course, if it were me I would simply not say such things in front of a live audience (then again he repeats stuff like "people passing by thought we were on a date on goatmans bridge" something most casual viewers don't think about that episode. There's also the many things he says about Shane how they have a bond that can't be broken etc, and while all that's in jest I think there might be a hetsplanation for this particular one, and later episodes of pod watcher come in handy.

See this was in the middle of 2022 when ghost files didn't premiere yet and watcher was about to go down, as they later admitted in making watcher and the first ep of the pod. Ryan mentioned that the very sight of Steven made him stressed out because he was worrying about their company and associated all the stress with that. They had four eps of ghost files shot at that point (we know this because Shane went blonde after Ryan's wedding), but the show wasn't out yet. It was also the same year he planned his wedding so I'd imagine the stress of planning it and trying to make a new show that might save their company might be overwhelming.

From the later eps of pod watcher especially the one after Steven's wedding we learn that the guys tend to get nervous when they have to perform in front of smaller crowds that know them, like say... saying wedding speeches to their soon to be wives in front of their friends and family. So what does this all have to do with Ryan picturing Shane, or as he put it "Briefly catching Shane's eye and being reminded of all the times they shot ghost files while saying his vows?"

Besides the obvious thing that my shipper heart would like I think there's something else.

See. Shane brings Ryan a certain level of comfort on the ghost hunts. (as per that old winchester post mortem) He's also the person Ryan spends the most time in the last five years (especially since they made their company together and including all the travelling for ghost files). And we will probably never know what he actually said when he pictured Shane. It probably had something to do with having to stare directly into his wife's eyes while saying the things he wrote (I'm not american so idk what you're saying then probably how much you love the person you're marrying.). And since his job is to spend time with Shane in supposedly haunted places they stare at each other a lot. (and into each other's eyes? he also mentioned that when saying this iirc but don't take my word for this I wasn't there).

As I said, Shane's very prescence is calming to Ryan, so I'd imagine if he thought of him while being nervous during his wedding to his wife, that also tells me that even Ryan's imagined version of Shane (because they could not catch each other's eye as he clams, he'd have to turn around since the groom's wedding party is standing behind him, and I doubt he'd noticeably turn around to catch his eye), is enough to calm his anxiety somewhat.

What does it all mean? We'll never know. This will continue to be my roman empire for sure and is one of the most "things you think sound normal and then turns out to be extremely gay in context".

Like he pictured Shane. During his wedding to his wife. Because he looks into Shane's eyes a lot during their ghost hunts.

sometimes folklore collectors and scholars get kind of... snarky, is a good way to put it, when a particular tale gets repeated in more than one place. Or they act as if the fact this tale has been copied makes it somehow less "real", and get hung up on trying to ascertain which is the oldest and therefore "truest" version of that tale. There's this story I adore about a well-meaning brownie who wanted to help a farmer herd his sheep, but got confused and herded in a hare as well. This story has been collected from the Isle of Man, and has also been collected from (I think – don't have the books to hand) Lincolnshire and Sussex. The first time I read it, the recorder had a very "it's probably stolen from another place though which just shows that this county doesn't come up with its own folklore" attitude. which made me very sad.

Like.... people love stories. we love making stuff up for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes these reasons are "they genuinely thought it was magic" and sometimes it's "this is a good way of keeping children away from dangerous bodies of water". and other times it's pure imagination. For some people studying folklore though, this notion seems very uncomfortable because they want to think of folklore as a sort of. magical and quaint set of beliefs attached to a specific image of the past, or to a specific (often idealised) place. But I don't think the idea that maybe someone heard a story and decided to lie and say it happened to someone they knew nearby instead, or totally invented said story, makes it any less folklore. Actually I'd say that's deeply true to the "folk" part of folklore.

Also I just get really happy when I see certain tales I recognise pop up again from other sources. that is my dear friend <3

Hey Charlie! Good to see you here too and I'm so glad that you've been enjoying my stuff. 

16 year old Jamie is one of my fic ideas that I am most excited about but also one that I am quite apprehensive about as I want to do the concept justice! @altschmerzes has an amazing teen Jamie that inspires me daily in Wiggle Up On Dry Land and I want to do my version justice. So I have various story beats and I know how I want it to end but I've just got to get there and get all of these ideas tied up into a cohesive outline before I can get started properly. 

I've mentioned before but the big theme of this fic is Jamie trying to take control of his own life. Young athletes their lives are so controlled and so structured and then you add the fact that Jamie is living with his dad throughout all of this is makes it worse. So! a big thing I am trying to work out is how I can drop hint of this and the toll it is taking on Jamie without it just being "look here's this child that is crumbling". Because Ted is going to want to just fix it but is also going to be quite blind to Jamie's struggles because Jamie is absolutely going to activate all of his dad panic. So in summary! I need to come up with the overarching threads before I can proper start writing :) 

BUT here's a little snippet for you to tide you over until then:

"But he's a spring chicken and he's still springing around." “Not just physically, spiritually,” Beard continued, his lips settling into a grim line as he stared at Ted. “Well you know me. I don’t feel like a man upstairs would be that interested in the day to day life of me as much as I would love to be on cable tv but people can wish what they wish,” Ted shrugged. “He checks out when you’re talking. It’s like he’s not entirely there,” Beard added. Ted sighed and rolled his shoulders. Jamie did often seem disinterested whenever Ted opened his mouth but Ted did have that effect on people sometimes. It was bad, and Ted knew it was bad coaching, but some times a disinterested Jamie was better than an interested Jamie. Because, like all other teenagers Ted had interacted with, when he was listening and engaged ... he was really mean.

I'm a pretty new SW fan, not because I didn't like the movies/hadn't seen them but because I grew up thinking it was extremely nerdy and would often feel awkward trying to bring up anything related to SW.

Fortunately I've finally reached and met awesome people who love SW just like I did but I feel like I lost A LOT of important stuff and there's so much content to the saga that it's extremely overwhelming for me to even think about diving into the whole SW universe and catch up.

I've been following you for a bit and your posts are just extremely interesting to me but again, sometimes I'm a little confused about certain things and so I wanted to ask you if you had any recommendations about where to start catching up (besides the movies which I will be binge watching soon hehe)

Hi! Welcome to Star Wars fandom, I hope you're having a good time! And around here we embrace being as nerdy as possible--I mean, fandom is such a mainstream thing these days, but I still like to embrace being a nerd about things because it leads to a lot more happiness, to just be silly and having a good time with the thing that tickles our brains.

But, yes, it is pretty overwhelming when you're first arriving, I still remember when I first came back to SW several years ago, having really only watched the movies as a kid, and there was All This Stuff and it seemed impossible to ever reach the deep end of the pool, and that was before the last seven years of books, games, movies, comics, etc. came out! I will hopefully set your mind at ease with this, though: The vast, vast majority of content that Star Wars puts out isn't anything I would consider "essential". It's wonderful, fantastic stuff! But a lot of us have just been around so long that we're combing through the finer details of supplementary material, rather than those being absolute Must-Read/Watch To Get A Feel For Star Wars.

My recommendations for How To Get A Feel For Star Wars is basically, start with the animated series and the live action series, they're the second layer of foundation in the Star Wars building, all the comics and novels and such will be built on them, and in this order: - The movies, this is the foundation on which everything else will be built. - The Clone Wars, season 1-6 are part of George Lucas' story and they're pretty essential (at least in this corner of SW fandom) to understanding wtf anyone is talking about or even watching many of the live action series. (Season 7 is fine and should be watched! It's just not part of Lucas' Star Wars.) - Star Wars: Rebels, starts off light-hearted but really is one of the best developed shows and does a lot of connective work between the prequels and the original trilogy. - The Mandalorian, set 9 years after Return of the Jedi, this show just massively blew up and while each season is slightly less well-done than the previous one (imo), it's well worth watching for wtf fandom is talking about half of the time. (The Book of Boba Fett is somewhat optional in this corner of fandom, but imo worth the watch. Generally, it should go Mando s1-2 --> TBOBF --> Mando s3.) - Obi-Wan Kenobi, because this corner of fandom lost our goddamned minds about it and still haven't gotten them back. - Andor, which is a really great show and, as long as you've watched Rogue One first, you'll follow along just fine. Does some solid connecting the dots between the prequels and the originals, but not as much as Rebels did. - Jedi: Fallen Order, you can look up a "movie" version on YouTube for the story of this game, which is a really good plot, has some great new characters, has some genuinely effective cameos, and will be referenced fairly often in other materials/in fandom.

If you're not feeling overwhelmed by All The Star Wars You've Consumed, I would personally suggest going for the comics next, over any of the novels. The novels are great! But the vast majority of them are self-contained and meant to be supplementary material even more than the comics, which get to tell bigger, more connected stories. I always suggest starting with: - Star Wars 2015 by Jason Aaron + Darth Vader 2015 by Kieron Gillen, both of which are really, solidly fantastic stories about the timeframe just after A New Hope, like there are so many absolutely banger lines that came out of these comics. I won't spoil them, just know that I think these were legitimately good comics, not just legitimately good Star Wars comics. (The first six issues of each series are meant to be read concurrently, but after that, you can just pick one and read in that specific title.) - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith 2017 by Charles Soule, which is set in the immediate aftermath of Revenge of the Sith. If Gillen's Vader keeps the mystique of the originals Unknowable Darth Vader, then Soule's Vader is more about the absolute BATSHIT DRAMA that is blending Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. This series is BANANAPANTS in the absolute best way. - Obi-Wan & Anakin 2015 by Charles Soule, which is a five-issue mini-series set between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones and is both stunningly beautiful art and a solidly good plot that survives fairly serious analysis of. It's got some great worldbuilding details, but even more I like it for the look at why a young Anakin chooses to stay with the Jedi Order.

The one book I will recommend--for a list aimed at getting you caught up on what fandom is referencing--is the Revenge of the Sith novelization by Matthew Stover, that book is quoted constantly, and I'm not sure any other SW book has ever been as good as it is.

I feel like this is the best set of reading to get you familiarized with the source material that tends to come up the most! There's lots more that's really good, but once you get through the above, you can let me know what era or characters you're most interested in or if you have a specific question about something and want to see where it comes from!

But there's one thing to address and you're kinda going to have to figure out how to approach it on your own. 😂 There is a ton of stuff in SW fandom that's ostensibly from a book or a comic, but the version in fandom often comes from those who never actually read the books/haven't read them in a long time or are just picking them up from other fic and meta.

For example, the AgriCorps or Melida/Daan get referenced in fic and in posts all the time, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend reading the Jedi Apprentice series (I mean, I'm not your mom, feel free if you want to!) and often times how they're used in fic is not how they were used in the source material. Or the clones speaking Mando'a comes from the Legends books by Karen Traviss and she is a whole big can of ugly worms (both what she wrote and her IRL politics), as well as much of what she wrote was overwritten/discarded when The Clone Wars came out, but fandom likes the idea and so they put that into their fics (as they should, if they like it!). The idea of Mace using the lightsaber form of Vaapad is from Legends sources (the best source probably being the Shatterpoint novel by Matthew Stover, I'd guess?), same for his ability to see "shatterpoints" in the Force, which aren't part of Lucas' continuity or Disney's continuity, but fandom enjoys using them to flesh out Mace's character. This will get you started and, if you're looking for something more specific, feel free to ask, I enjoy these kinds of question--and don't feel you have to stick with any of the above if they're not fun for you. This is meant to be enjoyable, it's meant to have a good time, there's no wrong way to consume Star Wars media! <3

Carlos’ Driver’s room – 2015

“I didn’t know where else to go.”

Max sounds nervous, unsure.

It’s very disorienting. Very different from how he usually sounds.

Not that Carlos would be a fitting judge of that. They barely know each other.

Sure, they’ve been teammates for half a year now. And sure, they've spent a lot of that time basically living in each other's pockets - becoming friends even. But just because you’re frequently around someone doesn’t necessarily mean you know them.

You certainly know things about them. Carlos knows a lot of things about Max. Max knows a lot of things about Carlos. Inconsequential stuff - favourite foods, TV shows, ice cream flavours, the works.

(They’ve had a lot of downtime, which meant lots of opportunities to play dumb icebreaker games, when neither of them wanted to pretend to be busy on their phone.)

And yet, to Carlos, most of the Max Verstappen jigsaw in his head is still just a bunch of 2- or 3-piece clumps that he has no idea how to fit into the bigger picture.

I didn’t know where else to go.

Carlos knows how Max sounds when he’s in work-mode. How he talks in briefs and de-briefs, on the radio, in interviews and even those silly PR-videos the team makes them do.

There’s a certain harshness to his voice, that makes him sound almost angry at times - even when he’s just stating facts. (It gets him in trouble sometimes, but mostly seems to work well as a deflector. To keep all the drama at a distance.)

The thing is, most people only encounter Max in work-mode. So it’s easy for them to get the impression, that that’s just how he always sounds – how he always is – and put him into a corner because of it.

But Carlos has also heard how Max sounds when he talks to his family.

The harshness is still there – most likely an integral part of any version of him - but it’s not as pronounced. Instead it’s almost overshadowed by something Carlos can’t quite figure out. Something that continuously betrays his annoyed teenager exterior, revealing the fondness he has for the people closest to him with every word he speaks.

He’s never heard him sound like this though.

I didn’t know where else to go.

Carlos had expected a lot of things to happen this year. Had thought through all kinds of possible routes the season and the relationship with his teammate could take. Had talked about it at length with his father as well.

At no point had any of what he is currently faced with even crossed his mind in passing – meaning Carlos is not prepared for this in the slightest.

(Then again, where would a precedent for Max Verstappen breaking down and somehow seeing Carlos’ driver’s room as his only refuge even come from?)

And yet, here they are – Max curled up on the couch, sounding like he might burst into tears in the next five seconds and Carlos standing awkwardly in the doorway of his own driver’s room, utterly out of his depth.

His head is filled with questions. Most of them variations of What happened?, What do you need? and What the fuck happened?. The timespan between them parting ways after the de-brief and now seems to small for any earth-shattering event to occur.

But apparently it has.

Max is looking at Carlos, eyes filled with the same nervousness and uncertainty as his voice.He is looking at Carlos, like his world really is lying at his feet, broken into a million pieces. Like he has reached his absolute limit and can’t puzzle it back together by himself. But also like he isn’t entirely sure if Carlos would be willing to help him with it. Like he thinks that there’s a possibility his teammate – his friend – will actually kick him out in a state like this.

I didn’t know where else to go.

Realizing what his prolonged stunned silence probably looks like to Max, every question about What, When, Who is flying out of Carlos’ head and he finally manages to push through his shock and into action.

Usually, mostly due to Carlos’ own tendencies, physical contact is not uncommon between them. But he has no idea where Max’s boundaries lie when he’s this upset.

So, as he crosses the distance to the couch and sits down next to his teammate, Carlos makes sure to leave a moderate gap between them.

Just to be safe. Even though everything in him screams with the urge to just hug Max and hope it makes everything okay again.

His caution proves unnecessary, when not 3 seconds later, Carlos is hit with an armful of sobbing Dutchman, clinging to him like his teammate is the only thing tethering him to earth.

Mind still blanking on anything even remotely helpful to say, Carlos settles on simply giving in to his instincts and wrapping his arms around the younger man, gently rubbing his back.

When, after a few minutes, the sobs gradually simmer down to sniffles, Carlos is glad that it seems to be enough for now. That even though he has no idea how to go about this, he still managed to help somewhat.

It surprises Carlos a little bit, when Max relaxes more into his hold the longer it goes on and doesn’t make any move to pull away. To get away. He’d expected at least a little bit of that typical teenage embarrassment over having emotions, but, his initial fears assuaged, Max seems to trust Carlos enough to just let himself fall and be held.

The sniffles become fewer and more far between until Max’s breathing completely evens out. With no small amount of satisfaction does Carlos notice, that the younger man has fallen asleep in his arms.

It helps Carlos relax a bit as well – finally having at least a hint of an idea on how to manoeuvrer this uncharted territory in their relationship. If all Max needs is a safe place to land after whatever happened, it’s reassuring to know that he considers Carlos as such.

I didn’t know where else to go.

Carlos has no idea how long they’ve been sitting like this – Max fast asleep in his arms,  Carlos gently drawing patterns onto his back – when he realises that, if a situation like this arose for himself, he wouldn’t hesitate to do the same.

That he too would feel comfortable enough with his teammate – his friend – to let himself be comforted. That he too would trust Max to hold him up when he couldn't do it himself.

This line of thinking seems so far removed from the way Carlos has seen their relationship up until this point and also how he usually thinks about his more casual, circumstantial relationships. Extremely far.

Maybe Carlos has been fooling himself. Maybe it’s impossible to spend as much time together as they have over the last few weeks alone and not grow close enough to trust each other like this. Maybe he just didn’t want to admit that he’s grown quite fond of his teammate. Because maybe, whatever is happening between them is starting to feel unlike anything else Carlos has ever experienced with a friend.

It’s very disorienting.

Especially since the whole thing seems to only be a surprise to his conscious brain.

There’s no tension in his body at their closeness, his limbs oddly calm and comfortable about it all. No subconscious urge to find a way to end it either. Everything about their embrace feels like it could go on forever and all of Carlos would be content with that.

Like it’s been this way for a while. Like Max and him having a connection that goes a bit deeper than just casual friendship is not even yesterday’s news, but last month’s. Like most of him has just been waiting for the last few bits to finally get with the program.

I didn’t know where else to go.

Carlos knows there's a lot to unpack here.

He should probably ask Max what happened. What got him so freaked out on a race weekend, that objectively hadn’t been a complete disaster.

He should probably also figure out what else he has missed in their relationship. And what that means exactly.

But with Max breathing evenly against his chest - a warm and calming weight on top of Carlos, slowly pulling him to sleep as well - he thinks it’s probably best to leave everything tied up for just a little bit longer.
