there's the person the story decides a character must be and the person a character is. the soon-to-be tortured sci-fi hero checks on his windowsill herbs each morning before work. then the world ends. it'll be years until he can raise plants again. the plants wait inside his hands the whole time.
#what i mean is. give your narrator hobbies outside of y'know. narrating#i asked#cosmic#what hobbies#relin#has and cos told me it's all there in the outline. and i was like ohhh ... you're right#i kept thinking of Relin as the classic unassuming sci-fi hero. forgot to actually look at him#the herbs are mainly practical he uses them to cook. they are small things that make him happy#and then the story takes away any sense of stability this guy had#that anyone on the planet had. and y'know what i keep thinking back to? Relin's window herbs. and his racing simulator game.#and his extroverted buddies who complement his introverted ass. and those freakin windowsill herbs#Relin might not ever feel that relaxed and happy again#so it's not really about the plants. it's about what they represent. it's the steady growth. the serenity required to cultivate growth#idk. I'm gkad cosmic gave Relin this gardening hobby. it's making me think#it lets me know Relin a little better#like how Relin reacts to the plot also tells me stuff about who he is but the plants tell me something that no other detail could have#who Relin is when he doesn't feel like he needs to fix it. to save everyone#man. maaaaaaaan#snowswords#plants
