Okay, so, I know a lot of people were discouraged after the LMK S5 trailer. The art is different, yes, but remember there are still people working behind the screen; passionate about this story they're trying to tell. To rebuild faith and re-spark hope, I'm going through the trailer frame by frame and sharing anything cool I find. (There is some (what I hope is) constructive criticism in here, but I would like to reiterate something other fans have said. DO. NOT. HARRASS. ANYONE. WORKING. ON. THE. SHOW. They're doing their best with what they have available to them. We're lucky Wildbrain decided to pick the show back up because if they hadn't, we may not have gotten the rest of the story.)

I'm realizing while doing this that Wildbrain doesn't use as many smear frames as Flying Bark did. As funny as it is to pause and see something like this in season 1-4:

It makes the animation look a LOT smoother and more energetic. Flying Bark also seems to use more frame-by-frame while Wildbrain probably uses more tweening. I suppose it makes sense though because Wildbrain is more used to 3D animation and the 2D animation they have done in the past is more paper-doll-like and doesn't need as much bounce and action.

Thoughts: The Innkeeper

Ahhhhh here we go, part 3 of 3. I'll do the new episodes next week once I've had time to digest. Ugh, I can't believe I have to wait until I get home from work tomorrow to watch, what the actual fuck? Anyway!

That little lick of flame to open is kind of elegant, I like it

"Soul Reaper" makes me laugh because I can just imagine that guy being like, "Yeah, I'm a reaper of souls but also...I've got soul" and it's doubly terrible.

Just watching Zheng in action and thinking about "Every pirate captain captains pirates differently"

I really love Stede's crew lined up and watching as they approach the Revenge, I think they all look suitably shellshocked and I think they're all at least a little bit thinking of it like Jim was when they were talking to Archie, a place where their lives meant something

Stede scaling the side of the ship, not wasting a thought on something as trivial as a rope ladder

One moment to survey the devastation and then back to action

"Guys, hi!" Like there's nothing amiss about the scene he just walked in on. Never change.

"I thought you'd be taller" is such a great callback

"He retired" belongs in the Treacherous Liars Hall of Fame. And "If you don't want to work anymore, you can just give up, I guess," is another early favorite for best line delivery of the Season

Love Zheng's face when she says "Leather. And B.O."

When I watched the trailer and I saw the bits that had this blue saturation to them I called a dream/vision situation and I guess I wasn't far off. Everything about the way this is shot is gorgeous.

My sis: "Why is there a pig?" I think since it's a dream (-ish) it's one of those things where the brain just tries to plug in something, I don't think Ruthie has any real significance but I would love to hear thoughts if anyone has any. It did remind me a little of the bit in "Cold Mountain" where Inman meets the goat woman who cares for him for a time. Like, some mysterious hermits have goats, some have pigs. *shrug*

Okay, dumb question, is Ed's shirt black or is it purple? Or is it legit changing from shot to shot? Or is it just the...the filter or whatever they used here? (Sorry, I don't know the lingo) whatever, I love it, sometimes his hair even has a purple cast to it, so cool.

When Ed starts flashing back in reaction to Hornigold going at him and there's that one tiny burst of Izzy laughing at him - oh god, that's such a gut punch

Between multiple viewings of both this episode and the trailer, I've seen this bit with Black Pete and the crossbow probably dozens of times and I still laugh out loud every time

And then...and then. I don't even know where to start about this whole sequence. I loved it the first time I watched it, and I sobbed (always a good indicator in my book, I think Stede saying "I messed all of this up" is what really touches me off) and I think I've loved it more every time I've watched it. It's beautiful and perfect and sweet and just the right amount of dramatic and just the right amount of...silly, which doesn't mean I'm selling it short or diminishing it in any way, I mean silly in the best possible way. And the way they smile at each other when they're finally face to face? And the way Ed leans in? That's it, going to watch again....

I was too young (and too American, probably) to have really gotten into Kate Bush in her heyday, I knew "Running Up that Hill," and her album "The Red Shoes" got played a little on the radio around here when it was out, but I honestly don't think I knew "This Woman's Work" until recently. I now love it just by virtue of it being so perfect in this scene. The ethereal-ness of it and the way it builds with the action, or the action builds with the song - I can't think of something that would have been better.

here is my pitch for a better version of the movie Yesterday (2019): the directors could’ve made 2 movies. they could’ve made 1 movie about two childhood friends whose relationship is tested by the guy’s rising stardom, and 1 movie about a guy who wakes up in a world where the beatles never existed. nobody who came to see that movie came because they wanted a cheesy romcom. the movie should have been about how idolizing the beatles as the Greatest Thing That Ever Happened To Music is bad and how all the artists who try to model themselves after them to become The Next Beatles are limiting themselves as creators. so the plot is, the main guy was in a band with a bunch of his friends, and their original stuff was doing pretty good, except protagonist man (vocalist and lead guitarist) is OBSESSED with the beatles, knows every song by heart, and all he wants is to make music that sounds like the beatles because the beatles are the greatest thing that ever happened to music. he’s also deeply insecure about his own abilities, and he wants nothing more than to be admired by the people around him, so in his mind, he had no choice but to copy them. except his friends don’t agree with him - in reality their music is better when they’re not just trying to imitate the beatles, and after a gig that goes bad because protag won’t let them play anything but beatles covers, they get in a huge fight that results in protag leaving the band, biking home in a blind fit of anger, and getting hit by a bus. wakes up in the hospital, as per the original script, makes his dumb beatles reference which feels way more natural when he’s already been talking about the beatles 24/7, and when he realizes nobody knows the beatles he goes wild. because this is his chance to finally feel like a good musician, people will finally appreciate him, so he starts uploading covers to youtube, doing gigs and shows, people are annoyed by him but then realize that his stuff’s good. he blows up overnight. his friends aren’t that surprised because this is the kind of music that he’s been playing the whole time, they just don’t remember it being beatles music, so right as he’s about to go on stage for his first decent gig (end of act 2 out of 5) they apologize for being stupid, say that he’s probably best as a soloist because the stuff he’s writing is really incredible and they never should’ve doubted him. and it’s all he ever wanted, except, this isn’t HIS music, he’s still not doing anything original, it’s just that now he’s being loved for it, so he goes on stage and plays a few hits while getting increasingly stiff and nervous while watching his friends in the front row cheering him on, and at the end of his ~third song he pauses and goes “i’m gonna play something different, actually” and gears up to play a song (that was featured earlier in the movie) that he wrote, that he was nervous about before, and he’s strumming his guitar and feeling pretty good until he notices that the crowd isn’t loving it. so he chokes up and halfway through, switches over to Hey Jude, or something. some beatles song he had never performed before with the same chord progression as his original one. and everyone goes crazy. there was an agent in that crowd who signs him right then and there, and instead of talking to his friends who are trying to congratulate him, he signs a contract right then and there and leaves the next day. act 3 is all the stuff w that crazy manager lady and ed sheeran except ed sheeran doesn’t act like he’s the greatest performer ever and someone writing a better song than him is the end of the world. protag guy is doing what everyone does in every band movie and is losing touch with himself in the face of overwhelming fame. his first album - which nobody knows is just a beatles cover album - is doing INSANE on the charts, he’s selling out shows, people are calling him an overnight sensation and the greatest new thing in music, and it’s all he’s ever wanted, but something a reporter asks him during an interview reminds him of the fight he and his friends had, and he realizes it’s all fake. because it’s not his music, and he’s meeting all these other musicians, and he realizes the stuff he’s singing ISN’T EVEN the best music out there. so he’s just shrouded in praise everywhere he goes and it’s killing him because he knows he doesn’t deserve it. then at 11 p.m. one night he goes to CVS to buy, like, a bag of some candy he and his friends used to eat all the time because he’s sad and sentimental, and he hears some people whispering behind him and he’s thinking, oh great, someone else wants me to autograph their CD full of songs i didn’t even write, but this teenager asks him “hey are you (name) from (band)?” and he’s like “...yes??” and the kid’s face lights up like “i loved you guy’s stuff- i mean, your new stuff’s good too, but you were one of my favorite bands”. and he realizes maybe he’s not that great of a musician but he was better doing his own stuff than trying to copy someone else. so he reconnects with his friends and they crash the big gig that he had been preparing for the entire 4th and 5th act, and go on stage and play their shitty garage rock album front to back, and leave, and there’s that whole scene of the guy running out of the venue except he’s running with his friends and he never tells the truth about the beatles, because fuck it, who needs the beatles to live their lives, it’s growth because when he first realized they were gone he freaked out about never being able to hear them again but now he’s completely content, and on their way out some guy stops them like “wait- you kids have talent do you want a record deal” and it’s one of the beatles because my mom’s favorite thing about this movie was how they “brought john lennon back” and the movie ends on the main guy staring his idol straight in the face and saying “nope”

My thoughts of S2 episode by episode

Some background: I didn’t watch the trailer because I hate spoilers. I also hate watching all episodes at once, so I made a deal with myself to watch only one episode per day (I’m crazy). In the end S2 took me 5 days and I wrote these  thoughts down after each episode. I’m afraid they are quite messy, but they are my topmost thoughts rather than a deep analysis. Oh and I haven’t read anyone else’s opinions yet because I didn’t want them to affect my own. So if you all disagree then that’s on you. But let’s get on to it, because I can’t wait to finish writing this and join the party!!!

Episode 1:

6 minutes in and all our worst fears are coming true. Poor @levok 😂

8 minutes in and I'm out of breath this moves fast.

I can smell wilmon endgame.

Omar has almost better chemistry with who ever plays this Marcus dude than with Edvin. OKAY I HAVE LATER CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THIS ONE. (Don't come at me. Also I'm sure I'll learn his real name real soon. His insta following has probably shoot up by a million at this point.)

When are they going to tell Simon? And Sara... I'm on the fence of saying excuse me honey what are you doing but I also 100 % understand how things can escalate from just... that. Malte should win an award from this episode only. Overall I feel like that Sara/August scene was the strongest scene in this episode.

Episode 2:

Damn those Ericsson’s siblings are ready to get some. Simon has clearly been reading @levok ‘s blog and learned that the best way to get over someone is to get under someone new. But is it really? And Sara... I'm still on the fence about you honey. That was possibly the most genius way to ask some. Or very stupid. It's August after all. But I laughed. Might try your tactic 😂

Was season 1 this fast-paced? I'm once again out of breath. I kind of wish there where more scenes to just breath. Like Simon's singing.

The story is finally getting some shape. Looks like August wasn't the worst of them all. And Wille thinks Simon has moved on. Oh honey, he hasn't. But Wille you need to understand how you hurt Simon. I remember thinking at one point during this episode that season 1 Wille wasn't this stupid. No wonder Edvin said he had a hard time understanding his character this season.

Episode 3:

Okay Marcus I'm not sure if I like you. When someone says they're not ready for a relationship you respect them, not kiss them. Or at least that's what I tell myself... And don’t therapies Simon. This is probably just me, but I don't really see how Micke affected Simon's relationship with Wille. The crown affected it way more.

This isn't Wille/Felice friendship I have read fics about. Don't ruin your friendship guys (I don't think you will). Thank you Henry.

August being next in line... I didn’t even watch the trailer, but I feel like I knew all this. Our speculations were way too accurate 😂 Very interesting to see how August is gonna treat Sara from now on. And what happens when Wille realizes who's next in line...

This episode felt much more chill-paced. I liked this episode. But I'm afraid of the next one, it's the 4th after all...

Episode 4:

It's starting to feel like everything is back like it's supposed to be. Wille and Felice are good friends. Wille and Simon are still Wille and Simon. August is all alone. I'm a bit worried about Sara. Did she do the right thing or not? I don't know. Sara has really been the one this season I can't make my mind about.

It was about a damn time for a wilmon kiss! I have had enough of this love triangle drama. Even before this season dropped 😂 I'm sure that’s what you all are once again currently talking about. I can't wait to join the discussion so I'm gonna treat myself with another episode today (look, I have a flu and all. I need something to do all weekend!)

Episode 5:

Okay that was a cool way to end the episode (except those curtains are still sheer... 🆘).

I knew from the moment Wille started to brush his teeth what was going to happen. Lisa has been spying on us. Hello if you're reading this.

Yes Simon. Someone at that school has to do what's right. Maybe neither of the Ericsson’s siblings ends up as the part of the monarchy (if there still is a monarchy at the end of this). But if I can choose I rather take Simon. Maybe being true to his feelings means Wille gets Simon back and that will give him strength to do his speech.

A special mention goes to the scene where Simon tells Wille he's just like his mom. That was a real slap in the face. But an earned one. I enjoyed that scene a lot.

August. Wow dude you're really in love. Maybe Sara will visit you in prison. Good luck.

Episode 6:

Okay Sara you are officially the true mpv of this season! Also thanks to you I can smell season 3 in the air.

Marcus - I told you to listen when Simon said he's not ready! (This might be a bit sensitive topic for me 😂)

August, you need to learn money doesn't buy happiness. But I don’t think you will. In my experience more money equals more problems.

I wish Simon could have sung his song 😔

At least Wille and Simon had each other. That's what matters the most, right...? And Wille seemed to find his voice, making his own legacy.

Overall I don't know what to think. S2 is still too fresh in my mind. I think I liked season 1 more. But that's probably because there was a bigger element of surprise. I've been too deep in the fandom and my expectations were sky high. I'm not disappointed at all - I truly enjoyed this season. Maybe I just thought so many things weren't left in the air. Because I have waited so long to get some answers. But if that means there’s season 3 I’m all in. 

Like said, I had waited SO LONG to watch this and right now I just feel empty. Thank god I have you guys to talk and speculate with, all the fans edits to watch, fics to read, 6 episodes to rewatch a million times, reaction videos, promo interviews and Simon’s song. I’m good for another year 😉

Keeping Up A-fear-ance's Thoughts

I finished writing this shortly after 3 am after watching the new episode like three times because I simply had too much energy about it and I have so many thoughts because I simply live for clawthornes and also I tried to break it up with more photos this time sorry not sorry if it's a lot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

anyways we've only really seen young Eda as a wild and confident and happy little child so I appreciate seeing this side of her with the anxiety and fear she's feeling here. I love seeing what the curse stuff was like for her as a kid

I'm guessing this is their backyard or just some woods behind their house?? wonder if the portal was placed there by another elder family member.

ok I side with Eda here more than Luz and Lilith. just because Luz misses her mother, or Lilith hasn’t seen their mom in so long doesn’t mean Eda has to feel all grateful for the presence of Gwen, especially if the woman has caused her a lot of trouble over the years

I feel like the fact that its actually both Lilith and Gwendolyn have spent their whole lives dedicated to trying to find a cure could probably have held some kind of weight on Eda at some point. Even though she shouldn't feel guilty or responsible for that, I still feel like it's gotta suck knowing these people have spent so much time on something you know is likely never gonna happen, all for you.
