I was asked this on my old blog right as I set about transitioning to this one, so...

The first character I ever fell in love with: for DA:O, dare I say Daveth? What can I say -- I irrationally got incredibly attached to him. otherwise, DEFINITELY Morrigan, and I have crystal clear memories of my first run through Lothering and looking at Morrigan like 😍 the whole time. For DA:2/E, Carver -- unless you count Anders & Justice since I knew of them from Awakening beforehand, in which case probably Justice. For DA:I, it’s a toss-up between Vivienne or Cole -- I technically liked Cole first but SPECIFICALLY in the supporting material (Asunder), and didn’t vibe with him anywhere near as much in the game, AND I got him as a companion after I got Vivienne, so probably Vivienne.

A character that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I guess Oghren? I never loved him, but I liked the idea of him because I really liked the dwarves/Orzammar side of DA’s worldbuilding -- but he’s such an unlikeable character that I just.. don’t vibe with him at all. I debate recruiting him every single time now, and I don’t think I ever do his personal quest (in the base game OR Awakening). for DA:2/E, I don’t really have anyone that fits -- but I REALLY wanted to like Merrill and Aveline more than I did, and especially in Aveline’s case, I can’t stand her and genuinely think she’s the unintended, secret Big Bad of the whole game. for DA:I, probably Cole, bc I was really into the idea of a little walking-corpse serial killer animated by a spirit as per the book, but that’s not really the vibe in DA:I, and combined with the somewhat patronising/ableist language and how significantly he is infantilised (including by the fandom) I just got put off him. I do still like him, but not as much.

A ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I don’t really have one? I guess see my DA:I answer, lol... for DA:2/E, has to be Anders - I don’t think he’s OOC in 2, but I think his writing does so little with him and he feels v. reductive. Where his relationship could be SO interesting and angsty, it instead is written in a really dull and/or cringey way. It would have been nice to see Anders more like the Anders of Awakening near the beginning of the game (rather than random, infrequent and questionably rare snippets), and then see the progression of his relationship with Justice as the game went on -- I want more interesting abominations, PLEASE. for DA:I, listen I cannot express to you HOW EXCITED I was for my planned Lavellan to romance Sera… also I used to be way more tolerant of Cullen x Amell/Surana ships because, like, hey dark ships are fun, right? But since Cullen’s ~wholesome whitewash~ in DA:I, and his fandom clamouring to absolve him of any wrongdoing ever.. it’s boring to me.

My ultimate favourite character™: for DA:O, probably Sten? or Morrigan. They’re both fantastic, and also are significant comfort chars for me. for DA:2/3, honestly, probably my own Hawke -- I feel so hugely proud of her, and can’t imagine I’d enjoy the game anywhere near as much had I not played it as my Hawke. If not her, maybe Sebastian or Carver? for DA:I, I really love Vivienne, as well as Blackwall, and Solas is a great character even if I probably would not say I liked him.

Prettiest character: for DA:O, we all know it’s Zevran. for DA:2/E, I think Aveline -- although her aggressively bland colour-scheme lets her down in a major way (although I respect her dedication to all orange all day every day). There’s just something about her arms -- very Abby from TLOU:2. for DA:I, maybe Josephine? Ser Barris is very pretty, too...

My most hated character: for DA:O, I really didn’t like Alistair, Wynne and Oghren, and of my companions - Oghren is probably my least favourite. He’s vulgar and also profoundly uninteresting. for DA:2/E, it has to be Aveline. There’s just something about ineptitude and a complete, wilful refusal to take accountability for your actions that I can’t stand. It would be okay if it was an intentional character flaw, but the game/narrative treats her like she’s lawful good and it really annoys me. for DA:I, maybe Iron Bull? He was a huge disappointment for me. I also really dislike Sera, Cassandra, and Varric. I’m so sick of Varric - I never want to see him again.

My OTP: for DA:O, I really loved Zevran’s romance -- but I am also very amused by the fact that Leliana got to ‘love’ status with Kallian accidentally, AND I got the ‘love’ glitch for Justice (👀) and Velanna. I do sometimes wonder about an AU where Kallian is forced to make a politically expedient marriage with Nathaniel Howe for diplomatic reasons in order to consolidate her position as Arlessa, and it being an entirely platonic arrangement (it’s not like anyone expects an heir from an infertile Grey Warden) -- and maybe Zev and Nate kiss sometimes, who knows? I also LOVE my Darkspawn Chronicles AU where Kallian and Nelaros are a happy, married couple each hiding their skills with weapons from each other like dumb, cute sweethearts. They shelter Zevran when he fails to kill Alistair and a poly couple evolves. for DA:2/E, I love the IDEA of a Seb romance that isn’t so strictly conditional around the structures that abused him -- he should be allowed to love, chastely or otherwise, but free from the Chantry OR his position as prince/heir. I’d LOVE to actually have a romance with him where you can actually challenge the abuse he’s experienced. for DA:I, Malika doesn’t have a canon romance (although I think when I replay, I’m going to romance Josephine!) but I think Blackwall has an amazing romance. Solas’ is also iconic, it must be said. 

My NOTP: for DA:O, I really dislike Alistair in a shipping capacity; he’s immature and says a lot of misogynistic shit and I don’t think he’s the worst for it, but I don’t really vibe with shipping him, having played the game as a female city elf. for DA:2/E, I wouldn’t say I have one, particularly? although I really dislike Aveline’s relationship with her husband simply because it seems incredibly inappropriate, given that they work together and she has power over him -- and because I dislike her, generally, I don’t feel inclined to do something nice for her. for DA:I, I suppose Sera/Lavellan -- although I’m not AGAINST it, it just really isn’t for me, having attempted it. I also don’t really vibe with Dorian x Iron Bull. Something abt the way the game handled BDSM and their relationship banter specifically I don’t really like.

Favourite episode quest: for DA:O, probs Orzammar/the Deep Roads. I really love the dwarven lore! and, of course, Fort Drakon is really funny, even though it’s not canon in my game iirc. for DA:2/E, maybe the murder mystery with the serial killer, where ultimately Leandra dies? I also really enjoyed all the companion quests. for DA:I, The Descent (just, all of it, lmao) and everything to do with the Avvar. Crestwood also BANGED.

Saddest death: for DA:O, it’s frankly a fucking INJUSTICE that Shianni gets murdered if you make her Bann of the Alienage -- the idea of that happening whilst Kallian is in Amaranthine and unable to protect her :( genuinely very upsetting. I go back and forth on who is made Bann, tbf, so idk how canonical it is: I think maybe Cyrion would get it, but I’m also endeared to Soris holding the position, with Shianni as Hahren. for DA:2/E, Bethany. I wish both twins had had the chance to reach Kirkwall :(. Let Leandra die instead. for DA:I, maybe not the saddest death, but the most memorable for me was that one sleeping dragon in the Hissing Wastes.. leave her alone. Stay out of a womans’ business.

Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: for DA:O, Alistair. I cannot deal with his complacency and hypocrisy. for DA:2, I really disliked Merrill but I honestly cannot remember why. DEFINITELY Varric -- I hated how the game forces you to be his best friend, and if you’re low approval, you have to endure these pointless pissy little comments with this little anti-dwarf centrist pissant. After the expedition, I literally have no reason to put up with him, and I NEVER take him out. I hate that he plays the same role in DA:I, too. for DA:I, the Iron Bull was hugely disappointing, and I also really don’t vibe with Cassandra. She just seems very wishy-washy and complacent and hypocritical, and many of her comments about other cultures seem snide for literally no reason other than bigotry. 

My ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: for DA:O, lbr probably Sten. Mans is gonna launch a HORRIFYING invasion in the next game iirc and frankly, I’m ok with it. Just wanna see that big bastard again ❤🥵. for DA:2/E, I LOVE Gamlen, ok? for DA:I, I am not sure if I have one.

My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: for DA:O, if any of you so much as LOOK at Velanna wrong, it’s hands. That includes Bioware. I also feel incredibly protective of and sad for Morrigan. for DA:2/E, probably Sebastian -- I feel so sad for him, and so frustrated by the limitations with the game. for DA:I, I’m honestly not sure.. maybe Josephine? I don’t really feel this way about Sera, but I do think she deserves better from the game and its writing, and also from fandom: there are valid criticisms of her, but the hate she gets is not proportional to any valid issues with her -- and gee, I wonder why that is.

My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: for DA:O, I did use to find Cullen x Surana/Amell intriguing as a dark ship -- I actually hc that Neria Surana is actually Nelaros’ sister, and have dabbled with it as a dark ship. I also am interested in Loghain/Alistair - which each pretends the other is someone else. Alistair is wooby, hate ships are, in general, fun -- so long as we acknowledge that they are, indeed, unhealthy ships. for DA:2/E, I kind of feel like Sebastian romances are, invariably, kind of dark... and, similarly, Anders romances -- especially with certain red Hawkes, The way it ends is, invariably, bordering on fucked up. ALSO Hawkecest is weird and wonderful: GET WITH IT. 

My ‘they’re kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I’m not too invested’ ship: for DA:O, I joked about Velanna x Leliana once and I’ve not been able to stop thinking about it ever since… Velanna x Sigrun is also something that can be so personal. Ariane x Finn is adorable and are paid DUST by Bioware AND fandom. I actually am really into Anora x Nathaniel & NO I will NOT explain myself; it’s a crackship but it’s MY crackship. for DA:2/E, Isabela x Fenris is super cute, but I don’t pay enough attention to them to really have super committed thoughts & feelings on them. for DA:I, Blackwall x Josephine is cute as a background ship; I also think Maryden x Cole is sweet.

I don't know if asks are open bc I've been living under a rock for 100 years but can you do DAI Companions (pre- commitment romance) finding a sleep deprived Inquisitor curled up half asleep in the companions bed?

Cassandra: The seeker finds it endearing, if a little awkward. She lets out a soft laugh to herself, not finding heart to send him away as the man stirs and slowly sits up, muttering apologies and that he couldn’t sleep. She raises an hand, shushing him as she leaves to get dressed in her night-wear entering the room and sitting down on the bed with a sigh. She feels her face heat up as she sends him a look, the Inquisitor taking the hint and moving aside so she could lay down next to him. ‘’Only once, will I allow this’’ The inquisitor hums a tired agreement, and they both are very aware that’s a lie.

Solas: He finds it curious as he climbs up the ladder, hearing breathing from what he’d call his space- only to find the half-asleep woman breathing softly. The scene tugs at his heart-strings as he bites his lower lip, he had been beating himself up for his inability to control his emotions enough as it is; this hardly made the process any easier. The apostate sits down next to her, the Inquisitor looks up at him with a tired look as his hands comb through her hair. ‘’Don’t mind me’’ His smile is warm and loving, as the tired leader gives him a thankful smile- being lulled into sleep as the man in hushed whispers tell stories of glory.

Dorian: Being who he was, Dorian was hardly shy or prude. But the sight of the tired man in his bed made the butterflies in his stomach flutter as the Inquisitor stirred, offering hoarse apologies. The mage has to tell him twice that it’s no worry, that he truly doesn’t mind the leaders presence- and if anything is happy to see him. Dorian sits down on the bed after a change of clothing, tired eyes locking onto his as the two share smiles. ‘’You are quite lucky I like you.’’ The man lets out a tired laugh, thanking the mage for allowing him to stay before the two lay down- falling asleep rather quickly.

Sera: She nearly screams at first when she sees the almost knocked-out woman in her bed, or well- bed and bed it’s more a larger sofa with multiple blankets and pillows. Still, she didn’t expect to see the very woman she had just spent a good hour thinking about in her room. She makes a dirty remark, the Inquisitor laughing a tired laugh; moving closer towards the window as Sera walks over and sits down. ‘’Wanna spoon or somethin’? Just letting ya’ know, I kick in my sleep sometimes’’ She laid down under the large blanket, humming slightly as she pulled the Inquisitor closer. This was nice, a lot nicer than she’d like to admit.

Iron Bull: The bed is large, luckliy- or he probably would’ve had to turn them away. But he looks at the person who had recently earned a lot his affections with a smug look, earning a snide tired remark in return as he sat down on the bed. Luckily he wasn’t too shy either, so as he laid down he gladly accepted the shared warm as the Inquisitor moved closer. ‘’You seriously need to re-evaluate your sleeping schedule’’ The qunari laughs, feeling himself grow tired by the second himself. Somehow the Inquisitor caused his entire body to relax, his eyes slowly closing as the two fell asleep.

Blackwall: His entire damn face is on fire, as he clears his throat awkwardly and scratches his beard. The Inquisitor apologizes, only for him to stop her and carefully ask if she’d prefer to sleep here, with him- than in her quarters. The woman simply nods, and that’s enough for him as he carefully makes his way over to the make-shift bed, sitting down on it and looking at the gorgeous woman in his bed. ‘’Makers breath’’ He speaks under his breath, and it’s almost inaudible as he shakes his head and lays down, finding that somehow he sleep better than he has in years.

What would some of their cutscenes look like?When you talk to him right after getting to Skyhold, he’s cheery and excited about the new base, though he does express his regrets about Haven and will ask how the newly named Inquisitor is holding up.  He’ll be really shaken after Adamant, especially if he was brought along and experienced the Fade. After Halamshiral, he’ll talk about how he really hates the Game and the Inquisitor will have the chance to joke with him about it…4. What would their romance route look like? Would they be romancable?He’ll be available to a male of any race.  He can be just a casual fling or it can become more serious.  It’ll be slow going at first bc of his past and the big kinda setting off point/locking in the romance will be initiated when the Inquisitor tells him he loves/thinks he loves him.  Nicos is gonna freak out and leave.  The Inquisitor can go after him (if he wants the romance to, yknow, be a thing…also if he wants Nicos to still be a companion) and talk to him.  If he chooses to let Nicos stay gone, he’ll do just that and will not be a party member anymore.  If the Inquisitor goes after him, they’ll talk.  Nicos will express his fear about relationships and that he just needed some time to think on his own (and to have his sister tell him he’s being a butthead for running away) and he’ll ask the Inquisitor if he still wants a relationship.  Here’s where the romance gets locked in (or out).  If the Inquisitor says yes, Nicos will say he’s not ready to say the L word yet, but maybe soon.  And shortly after, Nicos becomes more affectionate and open about their closeness and is just a big dork in love.5. If they romanced someone as Inquisitor, would they still fall for that person as a companion? How would that play out? How would they react to that person being romanced by the “new” Inquisitor?If both Nicos and Dorian remain unromanced, they’ll become a thing.  It’ll start on missions and stuff as they share a tent and whatnot (see next question for a lil banter) and yeah that’ll just be a thing.  Cute background boyfriends.  If the Inquisitor romances Dorian, Nicos doesn’t really grow in the relationship sense–meaning he just only has one-night stands and kinda just sleeps his way around Skyhold.

What would be on their tombstone in the fade (what is their greatest fear)?idk how to really phrase it but he’s just afraid of his father being proven right in his beliefs about Nic’s “lifestyle” aka his dad is horribly homophobic and so nic deals with a lot of internalized homophobia and he’s scared his dad was right about everything?8. What kind of Inquisitor would drive them to leave the Inquisition/confront them about their actions (what gets their approval low? what does that scene look like)?Someone cruel, someone who doesn’t care about the little guys, someone selfish…also someone who keeps prodding again and again about his past and not respecting his privacy in that situation. And the scene is just the Inquisitor finding out that Nic and his merc company just up and left without word.  They’re just gone.9. Where in Skyhold would they be found? (e.g. Cole is in the tavern rafters, Leliana in the top of the tower, Varric in the throne room, etc.)In the tower that later becomes either the mage or Templar tower.  Before it’s fixed up, he’ll be up top, watching the horizon.  Afterwards, he’ll be inside interacting with desks or bookshelves, etc.11. How would they grow as a person? How would they compare at the end of the Inquisition as a companion to who they were as the Inquisitor?As a companion, he learns that he’s not wrong.  He meets and befriends all sorts of different people, some a lot like him, and that really helps him.  There’s people just like him and there’s people who accept him for him and they’re all living their lives and doing good so he can too.  There’s not much difference between romanced companion!Nicos and Inquisitor!Nicos.  If he wasn’t romanced (or there’s no background romance with Dorian), he’s kinda a little more hardened.  He believes that he’s never gonna be more than a one-night stand in the “romance” department, that he’s just kind of a plaything so if there’s no romance, he keeps that attitude.12. Do they believe the Herald of Andraste is really the Herald of Andraste?Nah.  He doesn’t really believe in the Maker, so by extension he doesn’t really believe in Andraste?  He won’t like discourage an Andrastian/faithful Inquisitor, though.16. What would the Fear Demon say to them in the Fade to try and discourage them?Basically just anything about his father or the people who really messed him up when he was 18…just telling him he’s wrong for who he is.19. Once Corypheus is beaten, what do they do during the party? Do they stay with the Inquisition, or go somewhere else? What could the Inquisitor do to convince them to stay?He’ll stay with the Inquisition for a while (permanently if romanced). His merc company will move on eventually, once they find a new job now that they’re done helping save the world and shit.  If he’s not romanced, he’ll plan to join them when they leave.  If he is romanced, by either the Inquisitor or Dorian, he’ll stay and follow them wherever.20. How do they react to learning abominations can retain their consciousness and identity, and even live peacefully with their spirits/demons, as seen in Stone-Bear Hold?He’s definitely confused.  He doesn’t understand like basic magic, it’s just not something he can easily wrap his head around, so finding this out really just kinda leaves him very confused.25. In the alternate reality, if they were corrupted with lyrium, how do they act? What’s their attitude about the end of the world/their inevitable death?He feels an odd sense of bravery.  He knows he’s gonna die soon, one way or another.  There’s no hope for him, but he can go out guns blazing so to speak, so he’ll do whatever it takes.

I reaaaally wanna play dragon age and get some shit done on there and finish gdm cullenmancer Vena so I can get on with another Iron Bull or Dorian romance but it is, actually, late and i need to get to sleep at a semi reasonable hour so i can get back to functioning at semi- normal hours and i have actually had the most productive day ive had in probably like 2 weeks even tho it was all after 5pm so that’s actually kinda satisfying BUT I WANT TO PLAY GDM DRAGON AGE. anyway i’ll probably have a protein shake & watch some iron bull romance on youtube and go to bed ig. Be a good night for a trance file. I’m hyped up on caffeine which is probably why I was able to get so much damn work done on that survey bc I feel like im on gdm cocaine. athven begrudgingly liked him at first but didn’t really trust him bc he doesn’t trust anyone. he trusts him more than some but puts him at a distance now

mm not sure bc again hatelek’s playthru was my first playthru and i rushed thru everything and didn’t really pay attention. respected and mostly got along her but didn’t really talk to her. a rather shallow relationship i guess? but i guess youc ould say that for many of the companions relationships with hatelek

athven loves her. still kinda eeeh... on some stuff and not sure if he can completely trust her but he loves her (even tho he kinda hates to admit it bc she’s human). they share some views on the circles. she kinda scare him but they get along. she makes him laugh often

Iron Bull

romanced him but broke it off bc she didn’t like how the relationship was going. really like that there’s another qunari with the group. trusts him. relationship changed a bit when they broke up but bffs. hangs out often and loves the chargers 

still can’t get over his distrust of bull even tho bull has proved that he’s loyal to him. was gonna sacrifice his group because he didn’t care much about bull but thought it would be better to keep them. now will drink and joke around with him but still distant

Sera

they got along but hatelek didn’t take her really seriously. scolded her often (although the choices were crueler than hatelek would say) (again this is mostly bc of rushing and paying more attention to companions i loved immediately)

loves, adores, and trusts her. ride or die for her. hopes that she will grow to love or at least be fine with her “elfiness” she makes him remember what it’s like to have fun again. had a crush on her for awhile bc of several feelings and misunderstood them and tried hard to get over it when she told him that she’s a lesbian. she makes him miss and long for his clan. they’re bffs

Blackwall

they kinda flirted for awhile but (i often forgot he was in the barn!!!) was more sympathetic during his quest

honestly often forgot he was there. felt like he was hiding something (lmao) and didn’t appreciate it when the truth got out. still on the fence about gray wardens

Dorian

bffs often have snark sessions

romanced him but couldn’t get over his views over sla/very. i’m sure dorian would have changed his views later in the series but yeah athven didn’t like them. still kinda charmed by him (”ugh”) but put more distance between them

Solas

was ok with him but then grew to dislike him with his “you’re not like the others” conversation. still kinda respected him just kinda veered away from him. didn’t have trespasser during hatelek’s run and lost her save

happy to see him at the first meeting. thought he was kinda boring although the fade did interest him. ugh at the “i’m not an elf” shit. grew super friendly tho and soon fell for solas. (tbh he dated around bc he couldn’t be with solas)  tries to not bring up any elf talk with him. trusted him with his life even tho there were flags. heartbroken and angry at the end of trespasser. 

Cole

careful around cole but grew to care for him

appreciates her for many of her views and skills but can’t over mistrust of her. sure that she’s loyal but that nagging feeling...

no comment really. got along but mostly ignored him

distrusted him bc he’s templar but dang his charms got to athven. flirted but quickly stopped once he realized the other was a templar thru and thru. ignored him soon after

Josephine Montilyet

love of her life respected her diplomacy skills and appreciates her think it’s cute that she gets excited by fashion and the like while hatelek never really cared for them. got to know her once she realized cass wasn’t interested in her

romanced her but broke it off when he realized he didn’t like her that much after all. felt guilty. she made a decent first impression on him which is why he liked her more than many other humans. appreciates her skills and respects her. feels that their relationship changed a bit when they broke up tho

i’m sure athven does too with the loss of his clan. honestly vivienne, sera, and solas are the most important relationships he have now? i feel like leliana and josie and cass and bull and varric could be very important too if he just worked thru his trust issues with them
