Meet the Artist 2024! I'm Bee, and I will be your host ✨

On a whim, I made a new 'meet the artist'… but it became such an illustration that it felt quite odd putting so much text all over it! So I kept it simple. For further reading:

Some major art influences of mine include Mia Ikumi, Naoko Takeuchi, CLAMP (esp the Rayearth era), Yoshihiko Umakoshi (specifically his Precure and Doremi work), Kira Imai, and Chiho Sato.

My tools are still generally paper & ballpoint and/or sai2. I've been drawing quite a lot offline, actually... it's just a matter of time before some of it starts to make its way up here. I just need to scan and sort things out, which I've become quite lazy about... This summer's been just gross and melting away all my willpower. Hopefully it'll start easing up now!

I'm finally settling on Kye's new bodytype, so I did a bunch of outfits for them!!

Solaris is still a slow burn right now, figuring out a bunch of stuff but keep getting stuck. I wanna at least get back into the swing of the character designs though!

I've been a little burnt out just working on pages and chapters for Dom & Mor, so I took a break to do this illustration and I love it 😭 The babygirls are giving very NANA vibes here lol

Hey! I notice when you color, you make the eyelashes look lighter behind the hair

(I think that's how you describe it? English is not my first language!) How do you do that?

I clip a layer (the layer called "lineart color") on top of my lineart layer (the folder called "Lines (3)" ). This makes it so that whatever I place on the 'lineart color' layer will only affect the layer it's attached to.

Then I just color the area of the eyelashes and eyebrows that are supposed to be under the hair in a lighter color.

I am (still) using Sai2, but it should work similarly in most art programs that have a layer feature. Hope that helps. 🥰

Hi Bee! I’ve been following your art since 2010 and your TMM stuff was what caught me. I just wanted to say how much of an inspiration you are to me and you and your art are so beautiful! :D I went back to drawing mew mew ocs today and to get into the groove I obviously had to look at your mew mews a few times to get hyped. All of them are so beautiful and you made designing them so infectious!! I hope you have a great day and weekend <3

I recently redrew a lot of this one, I felt she looked too adult compared to the others, and I didn’t like the crazy saturated colors. I’m much happier with it now!

 These characters are Bortz (dark hair) and Dia (short hair) from Houseki no Kuni, or Land of the Lustrous. I abandoned it after the series got really weird 😅 (basically everything to do with "going to the moon") Anyway, I decided to finish it earlier in 2023 because I was so close to being done. I will always be a sucker for characters with that dark/light duality, and I liked the complexities of these two’s relationship at the time. It was SO tragic when they cut off Bortz’ hair! (was that also a spoiler? Sorry!!) But tbh while the art is really beautiful & the premise was fascinating, this series is not the easiest or most enjoyable to drudge through (pretty sure whatever's left of the fandom is collectively begging for it to end at this point lol) Hope you enjoy the art anyway! 🥴💦
