Summary: They say Resembool is a haven, and they’re right. Lush pastures, quaint country town, farmers’ markets on Saturdays: a bucolic paradise.

But it’s more than that. Resembool is a haven for the runaways, the deserters, the people who don’t want to be found…

The Resembool community knows there’s something odd about Hohenheim, but they’re not going to let that stop them helping him out. This is Resembool after all, a place where no one has to hide and neighbours help neighbours, be they building a fence, chasing a sheep, or trying to save the country from an evil they inadvertently helped release centuries ago…

Or: A series of slices of life in an AU in which Hohenheim never leaves, and several broken state alchemists find hope and home in Resembool.

Summary: A traumatised young alchemist on the verge of a nervous breakdown leaves Ishval in the middle of the night. Through a mixture of providence and sheer stubbornness, Roy Mustang finds his way to Resembool entirely by accident.

Roy Mustang was eighteen years and two days old when he was deployed to Ishval as a very newly-licensed state alchemist. 

He was not ready for what happened after that. 

He knows that if he’d been able to follow the path that he’d originally set out - enrol in the military academy and graduate there, complete his apprenticeship under Berthold Hawkeye within the normal length of time instead of getting swept up in the whirlwind of fast-tracked licensing - then things would be different. He would still have had to do all the terrible things he’s had to do, but he likes to think that he would have been slightly more mentally prepared for them. Even just a couple of years as a buffer would have been enough. He would have been fully prepared for everything that he would have been expected to do, and he would still have felt horrible, but he wouldn’t have broken down. He doesn’t think so, at least.

As it is, Roy is now a couple of months shy of twenty-one and it feels like he’s clinging on to his sanity by a thread. The smell of burning flesh won’t leave his nose and he’s lost count of the number of times he’s woken up screaming with Hughes’ concerned face hovering above him. 

Things had been just about manageable until Lieutenant Colonel Sherman vanished. Roy wishes he knew what happened to her. She’d always kept an eye out for him and the other wet-behind-the-ears alchemists barely out of short trousers. Then she’d had one argument with General Abrams too many and then she was gone. He doesn’t know whether she deserted or whether she was shot for insubordination behind a tent somewhere. 

All Roy knows is that if he doesn’t get out of Ishval right now, he’s going to steal someone’s sidearm and blow his own brains out, because he can’t go on like this any longer. He curls up in his bedroll, looking over at Hughes and thinking about Hawkeye just a couple of tents away. He can’t leave them here in the middle of this hell, but at the same time, he can’t stay here either, and surely it must be better to vanish like Sherman did rather than leave them to deal with the aftermath of his very final departure from the world. 

The bombardments are heavy tonight, and Roy wonders privately if it’s artillery or just Kimblee on a spree. 

Still. Whoever it is, they’re providing good cover, as Roy very quietly gets out of bed and pulls his boots on, filching Hughes’ sand overcoat because Hughes is taller and his coat comes down to Roy’s ankles. 

He leaves everything else behind. Uniform, spark cloth, pocket watch, anything that could identify him or slow him down. Roy sneaks out of camp wearing boots, boxer shorts, an undershirt and someone else’s sand coat, and as he continues to creep away, he thinks that he really has tipped over the edge into insanity. Someone’s going to find him gibbering in a ditch in the morning. Maybe he’d get discharged and sent home then. 

Maybe not. 

He has a choice between heading east into the desert or heading west back towards Amestris, and he’s got enough sense left to know that wandering into the desert isn’t a good idea despite how incredibly inviting the notion is. 

He keeps ploughing forward through the contested zone, keeping to the shadows, keeping out of sight, but in reality not caring too much if he’s caught and shot. He’s not sure what sense of innate self-preservation keeps him going whilst his thoughts are spiralling,  but he keeps going nonetheless, not knowing or caring where he’s going, as long as he keeps moving, and keeps out of sight.

Roy doesn’t know how long he walks for. It feels like years. 

Once he’s crossed into Amestris proper, it starts raining. Roy can’t bring himself to care. In books there’s the idea of the rain being a purifier, washing away people’s sins and leaving them clean and fresh. Roy can’t see it that way. The rain is just turning the dust and sand of Ishval into mud, making him feel even more stained and broken, and he doesn’t think he’ll ever feel properly clean again, not after everything that’s happened. 

He pushes on, not even sure where he’s going or what direction he’s going in anymore. Maybe wandering out into the desert to die alone would have been a better option. At least it would have been warm and dry rather than cold and wet. 

Maybe dying face down in a muddy ditch is what he deserves, but despite the dark thoughts running through his head, he keeps moving nonetheless, trudging on through the night into the dismal day and back into darkness again, keeping to fields and hedgerows, away from the main roads. 

It’s only when he sees a little house on the top of a hill in the distance that Roy receives a new lease of life, remembering that he hasn’t eaten for a couple of days, and he’s suddenly ravenous, knowing somewhere deep down that if he wanted to die he should have just given up and done it by now. 

He can't really ask for shelter when he’s a deserter and a traitor and probably wanted by the military already, but he’s not thinking that far ahead right now, and as he approaches the house, he can make out an expansive vegetable patch outside it and the smell of ripening tomatoes. They won’t notice a few missing, surely...

Roy crouches down behind the tomato plants as a light comes on in the house upstairs. He can see shadows moving around and curtains twitching, and he stays as still as he can, hoping they can’t see him. With any luck, the pale sand coat is now dirty enough not to be noticeable in the moonlight. 

There’s no luck. More lights are going on and the door is opening, and someone is coming out into the rain.

On instinct, Roy snaps, but he left his gloves miles away and it’s pouring with rain anyway. The figure comes closer, holding out an umbrella over him, and Roy makes out a man with long hair wearing a raincoat and rubber boots over pyjamas. He holds out a hand to help Roy up off the ground.

“You’ve come from Ishval, haven’t you?”

Roy looks down at the drenched sand coat and military issue boots. He can’t really deny it. 

“Well, you’re not the first and you won’t be the last. Come into the dry.”

Roy finds himself in a warm kitchen with a woman in a dressing gown making tea. 

“There’s no need to hide under the tomatoes,” she says, pouring hot water into the pot. “We don’t bite. How long have you been out there? I’ll go and run you a bath, you’ll catch your death. Just leave your wet things in a heap by the door, we’ll deal with them in the morning and Edward, I told you to stay upstairs.”

The woman bustles out of the kitchen, and Roy gets a glimpse of a tousled golden head around the door before she chivvies him away and up the stairs. 

Roy just stands dripping in the doorway for a few moments, not entirely sure he’s not actually lying in a ditch somewhere and this is all a fever dream.

The man brings over a couple of blankets and goes to pour the tea. Elsewhere, Roy can hear hot water pipes clanking and hissing, and he finally realises that he’s very cold and very wet. He strips down completely, reminded that he was so out of it that he managed to walk here from Ishval in little more than his underwear, and wraps up in the blankets, taking tentative steps towards the kitchen table. 

“You seem very calm about all this,” he ventures. “Has this happened before?”

The man shrugs. “You’re the first person we’ve ever found in our vegetable patch, but you’re by no means the first person that the village has taken in on the run from Ishval. Both Ishvalans and military runaways; we get them all and we take care of them all. We always have. War is a horrible thing and we do what we can to mitigate it.”

He looks like he must be in his late thirties, but there’s something in his unusual golden eyes behind his glasses that gives Roy the impression that he’s seen centuries’ worth of violence in his time. 

He gives a tired smile. “My name is Van Hohenheim. Welcome to Resembool.”

Whilst Roy has always firmly claimed not to believe in God, and that Ishval only strengthened that lack of belief, when he looks back on his first night in Resembool, he thinks that something outside of normal human power must have happened to have provided this safe haven just at the moment when he was on the knife edge of despair. 

Hohenheim and Trisha let him into their home with no judgement and no expectations, giving him tea and food and a hot bath and spare pyjamas. They give him a makeshift bed in Hohenheim’s study, and when he wakes up screaming from nightmares of Hughes and Hawkeye paying the price for his desertion (Hughes was shot point blank in a phone booth, of all places, and Riza had her throat cut with a sword that looked suspiciously like Bradley’s), Hohenheim just gives him a knowing look from where he’s working on something at his desk. They talk about nothing of importance until the sun comes up and the rest of the family start to stir.

He meets Trisha and Hohenheim’s two boys in the morning, and they’re obviously intrigued by the stranger who turned up under their tomatoes in the middle of the night. Alphonse is more reserved, but Edward has no fear whatsoever.

“Are you an alchemist?” he asks. “We get a lot of them coming here from the east.”

Roy looks down at his hands, remembering everything his alchemy has done and his stomach churns with the memory of that awful stench that still won’t leave him behind.

“I was.” 

Whether he’ll ever be able to use it again without needing to throw up afterwards is another matter entirely.

“That’s enough, Edward.” Trisha’s tone is firm as she flits around the kitchen, getting ready to leave on some kind of errand. Edward opens his mouth to protest, but a look from his mother silences him. 

The other alchemists who’ve arrived in the town probably didn’t arrive in quite as dramatic a fashion and in quite such a hopeless state. He can understand Edward’s curiosity - he could tell from the moment he set foot in Hohenheim’s study that he’s a master of the craft to rival Berthold Hawkeye and Basque Grand - but at the same time, he’s grateful not to have to talk about it, and Edward dutifully doesn’t ask anything more.

A couple of hours later, Trisha returns with a familiar face that Roy has never really entertained the hope of seeing again. 

At least he now knows the identity of at least one of the other alchemists who made their way to Resembool.

Alex Armstrong smiles at him, a smile that’s both sad and sympathetic at the same time. 

“It’s good to see you, Mustang.”

The Pieces Want to Be Together

A/N: A lot of what I wrote, is speculation for the episodes to come for the rest of this season. It also shows my hope that Gregory Manes is in fact a good guy and Flint Manes can be redeemed.

I hope you enjoy the last chapter of this fic for Missing Alex Manes Weekend! I really enjoyed writing something that was a bit different for me. But you should always know, with angst will always come to a happy ending full of hope. Thank you for reading!

Ch. 3: Fit Together with You

Alex flutters his eyes open, feeling a searing slash of pain from his head.

All he sees is darkness. He is unable to make out any features around him.

Where am I?

Trying to make sense of everything, he calculates strategically the surrounding area.

Why would someone want… him? Was he getting a bit too close to something? Did this have to do with the aliens of 1947? Did this have to do with Michael?

His hands are bound, but he tries to feel the ground. Cold hard pavement.

He will find a way out. He owes it to himself and the love he has for Michael.

Alex will not go without a fight.

Michael thought he understood fear after a lifetime of hopelessness. But fear was finally understood when Alex Manes was gone.

Alex had been kidnapped, and his brain had short-circuited any reason or patience.

When he had been searching location after location without a trace, that was when the fear settled in as well as the realization he couldn't lose Alex.

This human boy had taught him so much, not just what love truly meant, but learning about who he was and what he wanted from this life here on earth.

He fell in love early on with Alex in high school, staring constantly at the way Alex’s eyes fluttered when he got into his music. He was so talented and Michael admired him from a distance for so long.

But Alex had offered not only a safe haven to call his own, but his heart as well.

Michael for the first time in his life felt what having a family could feel like.

The two of them had made mistakes, more times than he could possibly count, but they kept coming back to one another in a way cosmic lovers would.

Alex was the shooting star in his night sky and together they made the constellation of peace, love, and hope.

It was the melody he had heard every single time Alex had played on his guitar. Quite honestly, it was the most moving moment of his life.

These were the thoughts that swirl in Michael’s mind as he searches all of Roswell. He would travel to heaven and hell to find one simple clue to Alex's well being.

After hours of nothing, he receives a phone call. It’s Gregory Manes.

Bright lights shine in his eyes, and Alex swallows, “Who are you?”

There is shuffling and Alex knows there are multiple people around him. He can’t make out faces but he can see figures standing around.

Finally, a deep unfamiliar voice says, “You’ll know in time. This is for the greater good.”

“What are you talking about?”

“We know who you are, Alex Manes, and who you associate with. That is, what you associate with. We will have answers.”

So this was about aliens.

Alex isn't clear on much of this situation, but one thing is crystal clear: He will protect Michael Guerin with his last dying breath.

Michael had always been right about Gregory Manes. He was the next best Manes after Alex.

The guy was good. He cared about his younger brother, more than even Michael had realized. He didn’t fit the mold that Jesse had once created for their last name.

Gregory had also found out Alex was missing when he had come to visit Roswell. He too had entered Alex’s house and went on his own search when he had seen the evidence of a struggle.

Apparently, he had inquired information from their other brother Flint, who wasn’t always the guy you’d want watching your back. But Michael also thought there was more to Flint than meets the eye.

After hours of figuring information out, they had all come to terms with the fact this wasn’t Jesse’s doing, much to all their surprise.

It was another puzzle Michael realized, that he didn’t know how to fit back together. Story of his life.

They ask questions; he doesn’t answer.

He’s hit, repeatedly; he’s had worse.

They press further; he doesn’t cry out.

Their frustration grows; he stands his ground.

They use fear and hate; he uses resilience and love.

Michael refuses to give up, he can't.

His phone rings and he looks down. It’s Isobel now.

“Iz?”

“It’s Alex.”

“I know...I’ve been searching for him with Greg,” Michael says as his eyes fill with tears. No use trying to stop them. “We can’t find him. Anywhere.”

He looks at Alex’s brother who is now driving his truck, and his brother looks as solemn as he feels.

“Michael, listen to me!” Isobel exclaims on the other side, “I know where Alex is!��

Alex’s whole body aches and he finally lets a moan escape his lips. He’s not sure how much more he can handle. He’s tough, but hell, he’s only human after all.

Whatever these things are...he's not entirely sure they are human. However, feeling delirious will do that to a person. He can no longer make sense of it all.

It’s been hours, and Michael never leaves his mind.

Michael is his anchor that keeps him tethered to his strength; it keeps him grounded and sane. He’s grateful even though his alien isn’t even there.

Truthfully though, Michael is always with him.

It all seems so trivial now; their arguments the inability to connect through the pain.

If only they both had foreseen this future, maybe they would have communicated what they had wanted so much sooner.

Being at rock bottom will do that to a person though. Your regrets, your mistakes, all of it, comes crashing into you like a current in the ocean.

These thoughts stay in Alex's mind. He realizes he probably won’t make it through the night. But at least he will go knowing he didn’t budge; he kept Michael’s identity and whereabouts hidden, as well as his pod siblings.

Some things are worth dying for.

As he allows himself to lean against the wall and close his swollen eyes, he hears a commotion outside the cold dark room he’s kept in.

There is yelling, a boom, and screaming.

He can’t make sense of it; he doesn’t have the energy to even try.

But that’s when he hears it, the most beautiful sound in the world.

Michael’s voice.

He found me, Alex realizes as he finally breaks. The tears run down his cheeks as he succumbs to darkness.

Isobel, that brilliant-not-by-blood-sister of his, was right! She had given them a location, something that she had seen when she had gone to Alex’s house.

Isobel had touched the floor where Alex had fallen, and that’s when she had a vision. The warehouse had been clearer than the light of day, and she explained it perfectly.

It was miles out of Roswell, but luckily, Michael knew exactly the one. He had driven past it many times over the years.

Gregory is by his side as they enter the location. Michael does not see who the people are that took Alex because their faces are covered, but that doesn’t stop him from throwing them against the walls. Hard.

Michael knows he's probably just given away his identity. He just doesn't care.

His anger is unmatched at this moment.

Gregory stops and looks at him with a look of shock, but Michael just shrugs and keeps on moving. There is no time to talk about the “what are you and where did you come from?” speech.

Unfortunately, whoever they are, escape quickly, but his number one mission and priority is to find Alex.

They will be dealt with later, that much is certain. A vow of his for the mere fact that they ever thought they could touch Alex Manes.

Gregory yells at him to come over and he sees a locked door against the metal wall. Gregory gives Michael the look with a bit of hesitation.

Michael opens it easily with his powers and scopes out the room quickly.

Alex.

His stomach falls as he sees Alex crumpled in the corner of the small room. Michael almost collapses, but Gregory steadies him.

Alex’s brother rushes over to his younger brother’s side, clearly checking for a pulse.

Michael has never felt this before. Before when trying to find Alex, he was on a mission. But this… this is different. If Alex is not okay, Michael will not make it. He knows this to be true. They are too connected and intertwined.

He won’t survive that type of pain.

So he’s stuck. Unmoving. He literally cannot breathe.

“He has a pulse,” Gregory calls out, which adds faith and hope back into Michael’s life. “It’s weak though. We have to get him to a doctor.”

“Valenti,” Michael replies, still scared to see Alex and the damage they caused the love of his life. “Kyle Valenti. He’ll help.”

“Here,” Gregory exclaims as he rushes over, “let me talk to him.” Michael punches in the number for the good Doctor and gives his phone to Greg. The guy looks over at Alex, and his eyes are full of sadness, “Go be with him. He needs you, Michael.”

Gregory leaves the room for a moment and Michael can hear him talking to Kyle.

Slowly, as if in a dream...a nightmare, Michael walks over to Alex.

He bends down and starts to cry instantly as he takes in Alex. All the emotions he has felt searching for Alex and the horrific outcome of this reality is too much.

The bruises are all over Alex. He’s swollen and bloody. Not Alex. God, no. Not to Alex….

Michael lifts Alex’s hand up gently and sees damage there as well. “I’m so sorry, Alex.” He cannot stop crying. The heavy sobs leave his body as he trembles uncontrollably. Michael realizes he’s not just crying because of what happened to Alex, he’s sorry for the way he has treated Alex over the last few months. He took Alex for granted and now here his love is, broken and in pieces right before him. “I’m so damn sorry.”

He bends down and kisses Alex’s battered forehead. That’s when Alex moans. He squeezes Alex’s hand softly, “Alex! Alex, I’m here. I’m here. I won’t leave...I’ll never leave you again.”

Alex squeezes his hand back.

It takes Alex a while to heal, but luckily with the help of Kyle, Michael, and his friends, he makes progress every single day.

It's both mental and physical healing he needs and that in itself, takes time.

The group continues digging deeper to try to figure out who took him. It’s nice to see everyone working together for a change. He’s wanted that for some time. Maybe that was the good of being taken after all; they stopped taking each other for granted.

As far as Michael, he never leaves his side. That gesture doesn’t annoy him though, if anything, it’s beyond comforting and welcoming.

Neither of them is walking away. They prove that more and more each day.

Michael is generous and gives him space and time, not expecting anything. It means so much to him.

But he does give Alex several hugs a day; clinging on to him tightly as if to make sure Alex is real. Alex gets his strength from Michael every time. 

They finally have their breakfast and open up about it all, even the parts that hurt. But that was the point of healing, true healing. In doing that, they break the barriers of their cycle once created.

Their talk wasn't a one-time thing either; they talk for weeks and weeks, sometimes going late into the nights. The nights where they make each other laugh, are Alex's favorite. He realizes that even though during their time apart when they weren't together, they had been building that friendship all along.

Sometimes during these chats, he catches Michael just staring at him, and he can’t help but smile. Their love has only grown. Deeper than even he could have imagined it would.

One sunny morning, he decides to finish the song he has been working on. Alex is staying at the cabin that Jim left him. It offers peace and solace, especially if Michael is there. Which he is, always.

Alex smiles as he pulls his guitar out of the black case. It's funny how an object can cause so much joy. The gift of music was just that, a gift.

As he holds the guitar in his hands for the first time in a while, he closes his eyes from the comfort it brings. His fingers sometimes still ache, but he plays anyway.

He plays the trauma he grew up with, the pain, and the sorrow, but also the resilience and the strength to rise from the ashes. He adds the hope, faith, and love that Michael has brought into his life. The joy of friendship and unity as he sees his friends smiling back at him. And most importantly, he plays the love he feels for himself and the growth he has made, with a nod of gratitude in Forrest’s direction.

It is the melody of his life. The melody that makes him...Alex.

“That was so beautiful,” he hears softly behind him as he finishes.

Alex looks over to see Michael beautifully leaning against the doorframe holding two cups of coffee, his curls tousled from sleep.

“I hope I didn’t wake you, I know it’s early.”

Michael shakes his head, “Nah, it's the best alarm clock there is actually.” He walks over barefoot on the wooden porch and hands Alex a mug.

He sits down and looks at Alex with a genuine loving smile, “Truthfully though. It might’ve been the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard you play.”

“Thanks,” Alex replies with a smile of his own. “I’ve been working on it for…well, a very long time now.”

“Is it finished?” Michael asks. Alex looks deeper into those hazel eyes. Not for the first time around the guy, hope fills him up like a balloon. “I think it’s just the beginning of a very special story actually.”

Michael nods and takes Alex’s hand softly. “I hope to hear each chapter of that story then.”

Alex moves Michael’s healed hand to his lips and kisses it gently, “You are and will always be a huge part of this story, Michael. The story is a part of us.”

“You always have a way with words, Alex Manes.”

The words he has wanted to say every day are right there. They are the only words that truly matter when it comes to the alien sitting next to him, “Speaking of words, there are a few more important ones I need to say to you.”

Michael smiles once more as he leans in closer to Alex, “Please, tell me.”

Alex takes in this moment, never looking back, “I love you, too.”

Tears fill both of their eyes as they come together as those two pieces of their puzzle, finally fitting together as one as they kiss.

The missing piece was there all along.

Hope was the melody that would always bring their love home.

Part 2 - Bondy

Warning: smut, smut, smut oh also smut

The drive to the studio was 2 hours and passed by quite quickly. You all decided to split up in each others cars, you, Van and Bob in one car, Benji, Larry and Bondy the other. Most of the journey was spent playing Nintendo switch with Bob and teasing Van how bad if a driver he was.

You wanted to sleep and couldn't wait to get to the destination to find your room. Last night was as sleepless as once thought and were lucky to get any sleep once you realised how hard thesw next few months would be. Stuck with Bondy seemed merely impossible.

If course you'd been on tours before, but you could easily go off in the day and end up being able to dodge certain people if needed. However these circumstances left very little room to hide away.

After your daydreaming, we pulled into the most picturesque farm house, it had ivy growing up and blossom trees lined up the road to the house. Forest surrounded the house with trees that towered above you like an older brother would. The house seemed like something from a fairy tale and it was no secret as to why the lids wanted to bring you now.

As you walked in it was like a stately home, marble floored kitchens, sleek tall walls. Where the lounge room or parlour should've graced there was a recording area with all the latest tech. Quick enough you ran up the stairs to bagsy the best room first. After careful consideration you decided.

The room was fairly big with a double bed taking centre stage. It's luxurious grey crisp sheets where soft against your touch and it was home to a record player on the bedside table. The wall opposite the bed was filled with books and vinyl and you wondered how many you could read in the time you were here. But this isn't the reason why you chose this room. Covering the north facing wall was a wall of glass opening onto a balcony that looked over the mass of trees, that you longed to explore.

Whilst lost in my trance I missed the sound of someone coming in, until they wrapped their arms around your waist and nuzzled into your neck. "You've chosen then" Johnny chuckled as he held me tighter to him. Moments like these I couldn't help but think what if things were different.

"do you like my choice?" I questioned him playing with his fingers.

"hmm, I knew you'd go for this one, have you seen the ensuite yet?" He mumbled in comfort, until I ruined it and turned around in suprise. And of course in my doing so I noticed a door behind Johnny's chuckling frame.

The bathroom was even more luxurious, marble floors let right up to another wall of glass looking out into the abyss. A copper bath lay Infront of the window and you tried hard not to imagine the both of you relaxing there.

"this place is crazy!" I squeeled turning around to look at him, leaning against the door frame perfect in every way. I walked over to him, little bounce in my step and kissed his cheek. "Thanks for letting me come with you" I smiled breathing in his scent and basking in the way it felt, feeling his hands sneak into my waist. I didn't even realise I'd closed my eyes in bliss at the closeness.

The evening was spent eating takeaway pizza and playing fifa, oh and drinking too much beer. You didn't play much after your several wins, and spent most the time making fun of Van and how bad he was. Although the many beers had created a buzz around you, and you tried hard not to do anything you'd regret, whilst downing another pint. After many more drinks you still felt paralisingly tired and decided to make your way up to bed, stumbling on every other step. You just hadn't realised someone else would join you.

It was quite hot and so the need for PJ's was hardly there, so settling for a t shirt you brushed your teeth and headed to the bed. It was like living on a dream and the abundance of pillows made it feel like you were floating. The smell was like fresh cotton and pine trees and the sheets were soft and cozy.

It was completely dark outside now and you'd turned all the lights off. You could here the lids coming upstairs to their rooms in drabs. Your stomach turning to jelly each time someone came close to your door. Half of you was expecting Van the other hoping for Johnny.

But as the night grew older and the sky became darker you gave up turning to your side looking out of the windows. The curtains were sheer and the draft from the door that lay open created a wind that danced and twirled with the curtains.

You became restless and you became more awake than before, growing more bored by the second. That was until you thought you heard the the door open, your ears pricking up trying to detect movement.

Johnny's body joined onto mine as he cuddled up to me like usual. It would've been more of a shock to me if I'd been more tired and less intoxicated but I wasn't so I chose to ignore my conscience, and rolled over on top of his body. My legs were either side of his hips and we both shared a look of mischief.

"how come your here?" I grinned staring down at him, his fingers playing with the hair that was loose before placing it behind my ear softly and sitting up.

"to say goodnight" he whispered, cupping y/n's cheek and placing a kiss on her forehead. If I wasn't as drunk as I was, I'd have smiled back, maybe shied away. But I was bored of this slow burn and wanted him.

A long passionate kiss was all it took to ignite the fire as her lips moved against his ferociously. They'd never kissed like this before and it was nearly as intoxicating and addictive as the alcahol that lingered around the both of them.

You found that your hips were slowly moving against his at a steady pace as the kiss turned more feverish and open mouthed. He mumbled your name into your mouth giving you access to swipe your tongue across exploring his mouth.

Soon he pulled away, making you feel disappointed until he quickly attached his mouth onto my neck sucking slightly, surely leaving a mark. But you didn't mind at this point as your neck arched along with your back as the grinding of hips we're slowly creating a warmth below that was hard to cope with.

"Johnny" you moaned louder than you'd anticipated, making his lips detach from your skin, and a suprised smirk slid onto his face.

"quiet doll" he shushed placing his finger into your mouth which only turned you on more, taking his finger into your mouth and sucking like a child with a lolly pop.

"wow" Johnny sighed deeply, intertwining both your hands and rolling you onto your back, sinking into the cloud like mattress. You could feel his member as he kneeled on you this time kissing down your body before he suddenly came up again a worrying look on his face. "Y/n are you ok with this, I don't want to go to far" fussing over you he held your cheek in his free hand.

"Johnny, you could never go to far" kissing his lips as a comfort.

"tell me, if I need to stop" he said in a sterner tone I thought I'd ever heard from him. I answered with a nod my attention going back to the burning within my soul which he returned to quickly.

His hands untangled from you and pulled down your panties with a wide smirk on his face. "What're you laughing at" my face was screwed up and looking at him confused.

"love, your dripping already"

"you've kept me waiting for how many years Mr bond?" I snided back sexually frustrated beyond ever before. With that comment he went back to work his tongue sliding easily against my folds eliciting a moan from my mouth.

As he ventured further into me his thumb found its way to my clit rubbing it gently causing a rush of nerves. My back arched with pleasure making me pull him up by his shirt that curiously still hung on his frame.

"this isn't aloud" I huffed undoing the buttons on his shirt, throwing it to the ground somewhere. I still wasn't satisfied and to solve the ache down below his tight jeans needed to be gone too. His short giggle and wriggled out his pants made me realise how needy I probably looked. But I didn't care when his naked body was propped up against me.

I felt every curve, dip and bend of his body as he made quick work of the oversized t-shirt that bunched up round my ribs. A low hum slipped out of his mouth reacting to my body beneath him. He had complete control and I couldn't trust him more.

"I can't believe this is my first time seeing you, like completely" I giggled into the crook of his neck. But Johnny was still deeply serious, set in a trance of some sort.

He caressed your body lightly with the back of his finger, going over every curve and bump that I'd always tried so hard to hide. Yet now, with everything on show and nowhere to hide, I'd never felt so safe and loved. "Your beautiful" he sighed kissing me and remembering what his previous mission had been before our moment.

His member teased against my slit and he looked up under his lashes once more, looking for my approval. Smiling I nodded and wrapped my legs round his middle, giving him the go ahead.

A deep moan came out from both of us as he entered me slowly, painstakingly slowly, my hips bucking him so as to get his whole length. Getting the message his pase was set as he drove deep into you catching every nerve in his way making your back arch in pleasure.

"god y/n! Your so tight" he barely managed to get out between sighs. Soon enough his pase is increased and you can't help but whimper loudly under every thrust.

"Johnny!" You practically screamed, muffling the sound halfway through by attaching your lips to his shoulder. The feeling even got stinger as he rubbed his thumb over your clit again. "I'm gonna come" mumbling into his shoulder once more before waves crashed into you and suddenly you fell back, legs still firmly wrapped round him.

"baby I-" he barely finished his sentence before I felt him coat my walls, filling me up, more than I though I could be. His body relaxed and fell down onto mine wresting his head my chest. "Remind me again why we haven't done this before?" he wearily questioned, closing his eyelids, going to slip out of you.

Stopping him before he could release your combined juices you pulled him back down into your body. "Just wait, I wanna save this feeling" you mumbled in his hair.

At some point he had to pull out, separating your bodies, letting the juices flow out of you. It felt as if a part of you had been taken away from you, something you didn't like.

After Bondy cleaned you up he returned as he was. Nestled on your body, skin against skin, hair tickling your nose. Absent mindedly swirling his fingers on your skin making your body drift into an easy slumber.

"night doll" you expected him to leave and this to be forgotten about but instead he planted a kiss in the valley of your chest and snuggled deeper into the embrace.

Beetlejuice was invisible for a long, long time before Lydia came along. He hated it, but he got used to it because he had no choice. Now he’s got his own weird little family thing going on and he’s the most content he’s ever been. But then he discovers that someone else can see him, too, and he just has to check it out. 

Your life wasn't much, but you did all right.

You didn't like your job very much, but it wasn't without it's perks. It was certainly a step up from ten years' worth of minimum wage drudgery in one department store after another. It was still far from your dream job, but you could get by. You tried hard to remember that.

Your social circle was... easy to keep track of. Over the course of your life you'd had really good friends from middle school on up through senior year. You'd been close with a couple people in particular, but as you all got older and your lives became more hectic, people spread out and lost touch. You understood that, it was only natural after all. You did think more than once that maybe you ought to reach out some time, just to touch base and catch up.

But then the thought would occur to you that if they really wanted to talk to you, they would do it. It seemed to happen sooner or later with every friendship you made. One day they just... stopped answering your messages and you figured that was that. It bothered you sometimes, but you were used to it. Life went on for everybody. 

But not for you.

Things began changing the day you almost crashed your shopping cart into that strange man at the supermarket. You had never seen another person like him in your life, at least not in living color and outside the glow of the TV screen. He'd been dressed in a black and white striped suit in such a state of distress that it looked as though he'd fallen down a ravine while wearing it. And his hair! Brilliant green locks that stood straight up from his scalp as though electrified.

You'd apologized, of course, offering him a smile and heading on your way. You'd glanced back over your shoulder as you rounded the next aisle, but he wasn't there? No way you would have missed such an outlandishly dressed person, but it was as though he'd disappeared into thin air. Strangely, the black-clad teenage girl he'd presumably been with was still standing right where you'd seen her before, apparently talking to herself. You shrugged it off. After all, you often talked to yourself too.

Ever since that day you've had this feeling like you were being watched. It would be the barest flicker in your peripheral vision, enough to make your pulse speed up a little bit. But there was never anything there. Even your cat would apparently just stare at a random area of empty space. Which was, admittedly, not unusual for a cat.

You did your best to put it out of your mind. You had plenty of other things to concern yourself with than imaginary visitors. Your job was monotonous, it was repetitive. There were days you dreaded going to bed at night because you knew that in the morning you would have to go back there for nine hours with no escape. You tried to make your cubicle into your haven from the mind-numbing tedium. You tacked goofy little drawings and memes and poems all around your walls. You decorated it with seasonal trappings: fake flowers in the spring, pumpkins and leaves in fall, fairy lights and garland at Christmas. Some days it was enough to distract you. And some days it wasn’t.

One week, for no particular reason, it’s bad. You start out every day frustrated for no definable reason, and then you have to go to work where it only gets worse. From Monday to Friday, everything is awful and it sends you spiraling down a dark pit into despair that try as you might, you can’t seem to pull yourself out of. The hours drag by with unbearable slowness, each passing second seeming to cost you more than you knew you had to give. You soldier on as best you can, wanting more than anything to simply go home and collapse into someone’s comforting embrace and just cry. But no matter how fiercely you want it, how desperately you wish for it, no one will be there. You will spend the night as you always have; alone, aching, and drying your own tears.

Finally, blessedly, you leave work for the day and you would have the whole weekend to try and recover from this terrible week before doing it all over again. When you step through your door a short while later you find the house utterly empty save for yourself and your cat. Ordinarily shutting the door behind you after a long day would bring on such a sense of relief. You would pet your cat and change into your pajamas, sit on the couch and relax. But not today.

You kick your shoes off at the door and leave them there, slinging your coat over the back of the couch as you pass by it, dropping your shoulder bag on the floor as you begin shucking off your clothing, stripping right down to your underwear and crawling back into bed, pulling the covers up over your head. It only takes a few seconds before it begins to get stuffy in your cocoon, your face growing hot as your eyeballs burn. At long last tears come, soaking your pillow, coating your cheeks as you curl into as tight a ball as you can, trying to stave off the gnawing ache in the center of your chest.

When it becomes too difficult to breathe you sit up in bed, raking back the hair stuck to your damp face, sniffling, your eyes red and raw. God dammit, you’re being ridiculous. You’re an adult, for crap’s sake, you’re supposed to be stronger than this. Yet here you are, bawling your eyes out, wishing so damn badly just for someone to sit next to you and say everything will be ok.

Your phone rings loudly from its place on your headboard and you jump, your heart leaping into your throat at the unexpected sound. Curious, you raise it up to see who’s calling. The screen reads: “UNKNOWN – 2383543873”. You roll your eyes, clearly a telemarketer or robocall, and silence the phone before setting it back on the headboard. You take a deep breath, filling your lungs til they felt they might burst, and let it all out in a harsh exhale between pursed lips. You actually do feel better, at least, after the crying session, sort of emptied out. Your head jerks round as your phone rings again, “UNKNOWN – 2383543873”. What in the world?

You don’t silence it this time, but you don’t answer it either. You sit there watching the phone, and sure enough a minute later it rings once again: “UNKNOWN – 2383543873”. This time you pick it up, swiping your finger across the screen to accept the call. “Hello?” you say tentatively. Silence is your only response. “Hello?”

After nearly 30 seconds of no answer, you lower the phone to hang up. At the same moment your thumb hits the Call End button, you think you hear a voice on the line: “He-…Hello?” It’s low, raspy and gravelly and it sounds surprised, but before you have time to react you’ve already hung up the phone. Barely a minute later it rings again and you pick it up immediately. “Who is this?” you demand, the beginnings of real fear tightening in your chest. You can hear what sounds like heavy breathing on the other end of the line, and that same gravelly voice in your ear, “Holy crap, is this really working?” “What do you want?” There’s a burst of maniacal laughter that makes you snatch the phone away from your ear. “I can’t believe it, it is working! Hiya, babes!”

You’re completely dumbfounded. What is going on here? Who is this strange man (because by now you’re pretty sure it’s a man’s voice) and why is he calling you? Is he drunk? High? Some combination of the two? “Is there something I can help you with?” you ask him, interrupting his gleeful giggling and babbling, getting frustrated with this whole crazy situation. “First things first, sweet stuff,” he says in a sing-song tone. “I’m gonna need ya to say my name, and then I can help you.” You frown, confused by the request and a little unsettled by the eagerness in his voice. “All right, weirdo, I’m hanging up now,” you say flatly. “Have nice night or whatever.” As you lower the phone you hear him sputtering in alarm. “Wait wait wait wait!” With a sigh you raise the phone back up. “I know this is weird and I didn’t mean to piss you off, but I just wanted to say everything’s gonna be ok.”

He says it all in one breath, like he’s afraid of being cut off before he finishes speaking, so it takes you a minute to fully process the onslaught of words. But when you do you can’t help feeling a little unnerved. “What?” you ask dumbly, thinking maybe you’ve misunderstood him. “I know you’ve been havin a hard time, doll, and I just wanted to letcha know everything’s gonna be ok.”

Your breath catches in your throat. How did he-? “Are you… watching me??” There’s a pause before he answers. “Is there any possible way I can say yes to that question without you getting mad and hanging up on me?” You scoff, angry at the invasion of privacy, afraid of what his motive might be, and hang up at once, scrambling out of bed to put on more clothes. You feel unbelievably vulnerable, what if he’s watching you right now?

You throw on a t shirt and pajama bottoms, peering out through your blinds to see if you can spot anybody watching your house. It’s already dark, but as far as you can see there’s no one around. The phone rings again, the same number, the same Unknown caller. You ignore it and soon enough it stops. But then it rings again, and again. You snatch up your phone and turn it off. It’s not a permanent solution, but maybe it’ll buy you some peace of mind for the night.

1 idea : Personally I love storys where the reader (who is friends with Tom but secretly has deeper feelings) is drunk and says some really embarrassing things about her true feelings or does something stupid and gets herself in danger 😂

2: call me weird but I love storys where either the reader or Tom gets hurt and the other one cares for the hurt person.. Idk I just think this kind of stuff is really cute 😅

God! You were so stupid! So damn stupid! How could you forget THAT? How could you be so careless? Shit, that hurt…but the embarrassment hurt even more, your dented pride too. There was no way you would get home alone after this, so you had to give them the number. Mentally counting down you waited for the door to open and a familiar face to appear above yours…probably laughing at your stupidity! Seemed like you had THAT wrong too!

Some 15 minutes after the call was made the door to your room flew open and a pretty flustered and pale looking Tom rushed to your side. “I came as fast as I could!!” He proclaimed and softly placed his hand above yours, fishing for a chair with his foot to pull it close. Good, because he looked like he would pass out any second. “Darling, what happened?” Tom sat down with a little thud as if his legs gave out half way down. The young nurse rushing in after him still stood open mouthed in the doorway.

She looked like a lot of women, especially women but not only, who encountered your best friend closely. Tom turned as you didn´t give him an answer and looked at the nurse for a second.

“I´m very sorry if I was a bit bearish, thank you for guiding the way!” With that Tom dismissed her and turned his attention back to you. The nurse closed the door and gave you a little privacy.

“I thought you would not be back until tomorrow!” Tom said and squeezed your hand a little.

 Taking a painful breath you tried to sit up a bit but got stopped directly.

“No (Y/N) don´t…” Tom came closer and rubbed his face as you had settled into your pillow again.

“I am so sorry if I have scared you!” You said quietly.

“Oh, you did!” Tom said but quickly added ��Just tell me what happened…please!”

 Sighing you rolled your eyes. “I am so stupid…” you groaned and closed your eyes.

“I came back a day early because my parents had mixed up their flight schedule for their big trip.”

Tom tilted his head. “That explains why you are back, but not why you are hurt and needed me as your emergency contact…I mean, I know I am your emergency contact and you are one of mine but…” His voice was so soft, so worried and his hand stayed on yours as he was waiting for answers.

 “I freakin looked to the wrong side!” You burst out.

“After only 4 weeks back at my parents I FORGOT to look LEFT!”

You waited for the laugh…it didn´t come. Instead the door opened and a doctor came in.

“I´ve looked over the radiograph. You got lucky!” He said and smiled. He shook Toms hand in greeting after the first sentence. “You are good to go home IF your husband is willing to take care of you.” There, another one got it wrong just by judging how physically close you and Tom could get when around each other. You were about to correct the doctor as Tom cleared his throat and nodded.

“Of course, I can move my schedule around a little!” The doctor seemed to be pleased enough and carried on. “Her left shoulder was dislocated but we were able to correct it instantly so that she just has to be a little careful with the movements for a week. The right ankle is swollen and the ligaments are overstretched, walking a bit AND carefully is alright but it should be rested until it´s not swollen anymore.”  The doctor looked at Tom. “She can take something for the pain… and do come back at any time if you feel somethings not right!” The doctor now looked at you.

“Rest and let your husband look after you! You got lucky that only a bicycle has hit you” With that he discharged you and handed Tom some pain meds.

 Sitting up slowly as Tom closed the door behind the doctor again you huffed.

“lucky me! ONLY a bicycle…” Tom chuckled a little and came over to you again.

“Let´s get you home darling…”

You tentatively slid down from the bed but yelped a little as your right foot hit the ground.

“Gimme a second!” you said as Tom wanted to help you directly. He gathered your stuff instead and the both of you were SLOWLY on your way out. Tom helping you as much as you allowed him.

 Not half way through the corridor a nurse came offering a wheelchair. You sighed but at this pace you wouldn´t be home before Christmas…and it was only June. Tom chuckled softly as he saw your face. “Thank you, but I think we won´t need that!” He carefully picked you up bridal style and smiled at the nurse. “Bye!” Walking as if you weight nothing he even managed to open the door gracefully with you in his arms. Outside you huffed. “Thomas William Hiddleston. Making woman swoon since 1981!” Tom laughed and looked at you. “No, I haven´t made you swoon till now. A bike has to hit you before I even get to swoop you off your feet!”

 If only he knew…

 Tom carried you to his car and helped you get in, he even buckled the seatbelt for you. Sitting behind the wheel he looked over. “I´m glad you are not hurt worse…but don´t even think about being alone tonight!” Rolling your eyes you wanted to argue but Tom stopped you as you were taking in a breath to start talking. “You know what…make that a week!”

“Tom! You are NOT really my husband and you don´t have to play that role!”

Tom grinned amused “Darling. I AM an actor, I think I am able to do just that…”

 Great, the way he looked, all intense and dead set on seeing his plan through, you had no chance to talk him out of it. But you really did not know if you would be able to cope with him THAT close over an extended period of time. You had been friends for some years now. Heck, you moved to London because of him and the plans the both of you had workwise. There always had been a special chemistry between the both of you but the timing was never perfect. Your working schedules collided in the first year, then Tom had found a girl or you had casually dated someone…it just never fit and somewhere along the line you had settled for friendship.

 The prospect of having him close for a whole week was scary. You were frightened that the feelings you had under control for now would emerge and taint the friendship you had with him.

“(Y/N)?” Tom got you out of your inner debate. “Hm?” You asked and looked over.

“I asked if you were more comfortable at your place or if you´d like to stay at my home for the next days?” Oh my, you really did not know how to answer that. If he stayed at your home everything would remind you of him when he was gone again. At his place everything smelled like him but you could pretend it had been a dream…

 “Uhm…” you started. Tom decided for you. “You know what. Your bedroom is on the same level as everything else. It´s probably easier without the stairs. I´ll stop at my place and pack a few things then we will stay at your home.” His reasoning was sensible, but one thing he did not mention.

You only had ONE bed and you sure as hell would not let him sleep on the couch for how ever long he decided to play your nurse!

 Some 30 minutes later Tom parked his car in your driveway and came around to help you after he had keyed open your door. “Hold on to me love…” He was careful not to touch your injured shoulder as he picked you up again. Before the threshold he stopped and grinned.

You just shoot him a dirty look “Don´t even think about it!”

Tom chuckled and took a very provocative step into your home. He kicked the door close and asked.

“Directly to the bed?” a smile toyed with his lips.

“You could not stop yourself couldn´t you? Sofa! Thank you very much!”

 Tom grinned and carefully set you down. “Let´s get you comfortable first, then I´ll get my stuff out of the car.” And he did just that. He put a big pillow behind your back, a little one under your foot a glass of water on the table and a blanket above your legs. After dropping his stuff in your bedroom he went into the kitchen. “Darling, your fridge is empty…”

“I know, I got hit by a bike as I was out to get groceries after getting back home!”

Tom came back to you and smiled “Alright, take out it is and tomorrow I´ll go shop everything we need for the next days.” He placed the order after you both decided what you wanted to eat and started a movie you could watch.

 “May I?” He asked and lifted your legs carefully to sit down and put them onto his lap.

“It´s more elevated that way…and I don´t have to sit on the floor!” He winked and you laughed a little. “You are playing the nurse, you know what´s best..” You couldn´t help but tease.

Tom laughed “Oh no, I play the husband.. YOU will play the nurse when I get the next deadly cold! Sexy outfit included!!” The joking eased you a little and soon the both of you were watching the movie and eating the pizza he´d ordered. After dinner you took the meds the doctor had given Tom. Your shoulder hurt quite a bit…

 It didn´t take long for you to get a little drowsy. Tom noticed and smiled. “Time for bed love!” He lifted you up again and carried you to the bedroom. “I´ll give you a minute to change..” he said and went into the bathroom himself. There you sat, on the edge of the bed and could not even get your shirt off. Your left arm would not lift enough to get it out…and you felt a little drunk. Probably the meds in combination with the painkillers you had gotten in the hospital already.

“Tom?” you said quietly. Tom opened the door directly. He had a toothbrush in his mouth and was without his shirt. Nothing you hadn´t seen before but it felt different somehow. More intimate.

 “I think I need help…” You said blushing from embarrassment. Tom lifted a finger “Onemoment” he got out with the toothbrush in his mouth before he vanished into the bath again. “Just bring the scissors and cut it off!” Tom came back with a smile “No, we will manage to get you out without ruining it…” He came around and started with your unhurt arm. He slowly pulled the shirt over your head and made a face as you winced a little. “Sorry darling…can you lift your arm just a little bit?” You tried and he got the shirt off. Now you sat in your bra and jeans before him and somehow you didn´t care. The meds had kicked in. Tom got a shirt from him and said “We´ll put this on, my shirts are bigger and easier to handle for now.”

 He helped you into the shirt and afterwards kneeled before you. “Balance yourself on my shoulder, the jeans has to get off too!” You chuckled a little and swayed a bit on just your left foot.

“Aren´t you prince charming!” Your speech slurred as if you had one drink too much. Tom grinned.

“Just helping my wife undress!” He winked and you giggled. Tom opened your jeans and his hands grabbed the waistband. Slowly he pulled them down and looked up as he heard you take in a breath.

You had closed your eyes and he grinned before his hands left your jeans that pooled around your feet and softly grabbed your waist to make you sit on the bed again.

 You still held on to his naked shoulders. “Darling?” He said softly.

“We are done… you can let go of me and get as comfortable as possible!”

“Ok..” you said and stroked down his chest. Tom took in a deep breath but smiled.

“The meds are working I guess…” Your pupils told him the answer, they were clearly dilated.

You managed to get under the blanket and found a position that was comfortable. Tom cleaned up your clothes and took of his pants to add it to the pile.

 “Youre sooo sexy!” You blurted and watched him. Tom stood with his back to you but he stopped his movements for a second. A look over his shoulder and he said “Well, thank you…” He smiled and now turned fully. “You need something before I hop into bed too?”

You shook your head but simultaneously said “Turnround an…other time…you have a niiice butt!”

Tom chuckled softly not even the slightest taken aback. He climbed into bed next to you and propped himself onto one side. “Maybe we should go easy on the meds tomorrow.. they clearly temper with your judgement.” He killed the light and only a soft glow from outside lit the room.

 “Tom?” You said quietly and somewhat straight. “Yes darling?”

“I got hit by a bike!”

“Yes, but you´ll be ok…I´ll stay with you until you feel better!”

“Then I´ll NEEEEVER feel better!”

Tom chuckled and felt your hand searching for him. “Want me closer?” He asked quietly.

“Mhmm yes please!” Tom scooted closer and you cuddled up as good as possible with your unhurt side. A sigh escaped you and you closed your eyes taking in a deep breath. Some minutes later you slurred  “Love you!” before you drifted into a meds induced sleep.

 Toms eyes shot open. He knew you were under the influence of those meds but his heart couldn’t help but beat faster. “Love you too! Always have…” He said quietly and placed a kiss on your forehead. Maybe this was the time where the both of you were finally on the same page. Where fate and time finally lined up. He never had wanted to be JUST friends, but the both of you had ended up that way. Maybe he had to make you see how good the both of you fit…maybe he had to push luck a bit…maybe you wanted him like he wanted you.

 He promised his heart that he would find out in the next days!

 After 3 days you were able to walk with just a slight limp. You could lift your arm half way again without flinching and currently stood in the kitchen trying to make breakfast. Tom had been curled up behind you as you woke up. Every night that passed he came closer and closer and this morning not even a hair would have fit between the both of you…and damn, it had felt so good!

Lost in your thoughts you jerked a little as 2 arms came around your waist from behind.

 “Morning..” a soft kiss on your healing shoulder. Tom was really good at acting, you knew that but you´d never thought that he would play the role of your husband to perfection. The last 3 days he had helped you whenever you had needed him and made you realise how much you loved having him around. He had joked about why the both of you hadn´t moved in with each other sooner. There had been a lot of innocent kisses on your cheek, a lot of cuddling while you rested on the sofa and it all had felt more than right.

 He hugged you close against his still naked chest. “Shouldn´t I be making breakfast for my wife?” He asked teasingly and pecked your cheek over your shoulder. You were too weak to NOT lean in and enjoy his arms around you. He really had worn you down over the last days. No, not worn you down… that wasn´t the right term. He had sneaked in through the little space you had given him and torn the door to your heart wide open with his irresistible charm and simply by being his usual loveable self.

 Tom felt you cuddling up against him and he smiled. His hand slowly found it´s way under your shirt and came to rest on your belly, his thumb stroking you softly. You had always been close with each other, but that was crossing even your muddy line of balancing friendship and something else you were secretly craving. “(Y/N)?” Tom asked whispering near your ear.

“Mhmm?” You replied with your eyes still closed, absorbing his every touch.

“Do I need to play my act another day?”

Opening your eyes you tensed a little before answering. “No, I… sorry for keeping you the last days…I think I´ll be able to handle myself from now on…” You tried to free yourself but he would not let you.

“That´s not what I meant…” He said quietly.

“No?” You asked and tried to turn instead of freeing yourself. This time Tom let you but still had you in his arms. You tried to look up into his eyes, but his naked chest was more than distracting this close. Tom chuckled softly and leaned back to get your attention again.

 “How much more does it take?” he asked with a deep look into your eyes.

“Huh?” you asked not very elaborate.

“Another night cuddled up together? One more day? Another hug? Another kiss on the cheek?”

Tom softly took your face in his hands. “The first night…before you fell asleep you said you loved me…” You gasped but didn´t deny it…you couldn´t deny it. “I know the meds made you drowsy, but it felt so good hearing you say it…” Tom carried on.

 His eyes hunted yours. “So tell me…I need to know…do you love me as a friend, or…” he could not finish his sentence….he just stared into your eyes and searched for an answer. As you did not make a move to get away from him or to let him down easy with words of friendship a slow smile spread on his beautiful face. Your hands gliding around his narrow waist, tugging him even closer gave him the answer he wanted. He dipped his head slowly, his nose nudging yours.

 “…I said it back, you know..” He whispered before his lips found yours in a soft and slow kiss that tasted of Tom and peppermint toothpaste…but mostly it tasted like a promise. Like a promise that THIS was something special, that this was the right time that your hearts finally had found their way to each other.

 A year later…

 After a nice dinner Tom and you walked back to your joined home. After he had kissed you in the kitchen that fateful morning Tom had made you move in with him very fast saying he would not want to miss another day without you in his arms…and you felt the same. You had wasted enough time not being with him. Stopping at a crossing Tom took you  into his arms and kissed you very thoroughly. He rested his forehead against yours and smiled.

“I love you darling! And now…LOOK LEFT!!”

 You did…and gasped as a bicycle slowly came into view. On it was a big sign….

A Haven for Lost Things

Chapter 2

Connor pulled up to the two story skimpy house, scanning the facade for abnormalities. Seeing nothing and no one, he snatched a sleeping Markus off the backseat and carried him into the house after scrambling to figure out the best way to punch in the passcode with a gaunt and asleep assassin in his hands.

Money. Connor required it. For Hank and for himself.

The door hit the adjacent wall with a crash, but Connor didn’t care. He kicked it shut, and dumped Markus on the living room couch with a grunt. The man opened hazy eyes and blinked at him. He managed to remain neutral despite the pain and situation.

Connor shook his head. Markus was like him, and that meant no matter what, he couldn’t let his guard down. Men like them were tricky bastards, slippery to hold and harder to keep. Which put into perspective how easy it had been to catch Markus.

It had been something Connor had been mulling over during the drive through the city. He’d been hunting the elusive man for almost sixteen months, and out of the blue, he gets lucky. People in this business don’t get lucky.

Markus must have another motivator. A reason, something to explain why he let himself get caught. He’d been a ghost for too long to be found out in the open. What were the likely options?

Markus must need something from him. Connor’s eyebrows scrunched together. But what could he supply that Markus couldn’t give himself? Markus had money, the necessary skill set, a life, what else did he require?

There was a missing piece, an empty space in Connor’s observations. He hated not having the whole story, but the only way to get it was through the man himself. Perhaps Connor had the chance to understand the mystery behind the legend, but in the meantime, he had to nurse the sickly man back to health.

The Deviant, reduced to skin and bones and exhaustion. Connor remembered hearing stories when he was younger about the one called Deviant, a title passed down from assassin to assassin. To be the Deviant was the be the best, and Connor had coveted that dream until he understood what it meant. Left with a unique set of skills and lacking the kind needed to be someone else, Connor had forced himself into a corner in a titanium cage.  

Connor never cared much to decide what his morals were. It was obvious that they didn’t line up with most of the world’s population. There wasn’t a reset button to fix them, and he wasn’t inclined to adjust them either.

The clock chimed noon, its echoing sound familiar and distant at the same time. There were days when that sound meant pain and rugged eyes and alcohol filled breath and there were days when it meant roasting coffee and a grim but patient smile.

Connor left the living room and came back with a length of rope. Markus was hurt, but he knew that the man was still dangerous. Several lessons had taught him several times to alway beware. He tied it around Markus’ wrists and then to the beam of wood in the ceiling. The oak was supported and bolted into several other crossing beams. Granted, he didn’t think Markus was going anywhere.

Knot finished, Connor’s thoughts turned to food. The safe house was stocked to the brim with supplies, but the food choices were sparse. Connor didn’t cook anything more complicated than a bowl of brown rice and roasted vegetables. He could start a fire from flint and iron, run on walls, navigate through complex layouts and streets, and hit a sniper shot at seventeen hundred meters, but he couldn’t make a single crèpe.

The kitchen was basic, with only the necessary oven, microwave, and fridge. They weren’t new appliances either, the white tinged a dreary grey and drudged up brown. Rust was creeping in the stovetop bars. He wasn’t coming back here after this and Connor had never been one to clean unless a case called for it.

The silence wasn’t oppressive the way it was in the lost district. Here, there was the faint noise of cars and planes, wind clattering branches against windows, and dogs barking every now and again. There, metal clanged and doors slammed and the foundation was built upon the hidden and forgotten things, things left alone for reasons no one knew any longer.

The creature was another matter. Connor had seen it once, cast in moonlight and framed in ragged shadows. Eyes dark as a starless night and mouth crawling with jagged teeth that could rip and tear through steel with ease, the creature lacked any formal name. It didn’t need one. The very sound of its claws dragging against the road made birds silent and turned foxes and badgers aside. Doors were braced and windows left empty. The creature was always hungry and always waiting.

The lights flickered in the kitchen before coming back to their usual consistent beam. Connor ignored t and went about making a cheddar cheese and butter sandwich for himself and a chicken soup for Markus. Solid food after starvation wasn’t a good idea. He’d have to work Markus into the regular three meals a day. From prior research, treatment for the malnourished took over three months. They’d have to find another place to stay, out of the way from civilization. The country of France was lovely at this time year.

The summer heat and colliding weather brought out a lush countryside filled with various kinds of trees and grasses. Hills roamed through, rivers cutting around bluffs. It wasn’t so different from the midwestern countryside, aside for one monumental fact.

France had mountains.

Towering, jagged peaked mountains. Most were snow capped, but their bases sometimes sprouted deciduous forests that would fade into rocky outcroppings and trails. Connor had spent a vacation hiking up Mount Blac, one of France’s tallest mountains. They wouldn’t be hiding out near an tourist attraction, the likelihood of someone asking for directions increased dramatically.

The water was boiling on the stove, the rich smell of chicken and spices rising from the pot as Connor added the packet mixture. Rich was a stretch, but to Connor and certainly to Markus, it would be their version of a five star meal.

Tapping the wooden spoon on the side of the steaming pot, Connor laddled a sizeable chunk of the soup into a one of two bowls he had on stock. Tupperware and silverware weren’t high on his survival list. His contact must have thought of it; he knew himself well enough to know it wouldn't have crossed his mind.

Connor set the bowl onto the rickety coffee table. Markus stared at him with those strange eyes―the heterochromia unsettling. Markus’ eyes were unsettling without the two different colors, a barrier blocked Connor from seeing anything but a wall put up to keep others out. He didn’t like not being able to see through a person, however invasive that was.

Connor offered the bowl and no words. Markus took it and sat up, his hands trembling. The soup splashed from the spoon onto his lap as he raised it to his lips. It didn’t deter Markus. He kept at it until the soup was in his stomach or on the ragged shirt he wore.

It was a mess and if Connor had cared about such things, he might have said something, but he didn’t care, so he refrained from spoken word.

Neither had said a word to each other during their stay in each other’s company. They had an innate understanding, or so Connor thought. Both were killers and both weren’t the type to have small talk. What sort of things would they talk about anyways? Kills? Training how to kill? Their first kill?

Connor’s whole world revolved around these things, nothing else had ever mattered. Nothing besides the gun in his hands and the father back home.

He left Markus laying there, eyes staring at the blank wall, mind off in another place. There was a phone call he had to make.

The bedroom was sparse—a night stand, full size bed with black sheets, and one wardrobe with two sets of clothes. There wasn’t a window, giving the room a closed off and claustrophobic atmosphere. Markus would need a set of clothes to travel in, the ones he was wearing were torn and stained with various liquids.

Connor made a mental note to see if the one’s in the wardrobe would fit him or if he’d have to buy new ones. He pulled out the cheap phone for one last call.

Another number he knew by heart. His one friend, or the closest thing he had to a friend. His contact, who helped him get places, know layouts and hack into secret Russian KGB servers.

“Simon.”

“AK. What do you need this time?” Simon’s voice filtered in with a crack.

Connor sat down on the edge of the bed. “I need a place out in the country, not for from Lyon, France. Fifty miles at most, but away from people. I have something that came up and I can’t travel for a few months. I’ll need two thousand euros and two sets of the normal. One car, don’t care how old as long as it doesn’t break down. Guns must be kept in a different location than normal.”

Simon was silent, the clattering of a keyboard faintly coming through. “You have someone with you?”

“An old buddy, injured in a car crash yesterday and you know I hate hospitals. I want more medical supplies in the house too. Antiseptic, gauze, morphine, the usual.”

Simon hummed in agreement. “I’ll send the address over in an hour. It’ll be ready by tomorrow afternoon, probably around two. Stay alive.”

Connor hung up and laid back on the bed. He had an hour drive in the morning to pick up Gavin. The man had texted him that he’d arrive at four am. The clock read one pm. The day was dragging on, with every moment lasting longer than it should have any right to.

He stared up at the ceiling, eyes following the slowly spinning fan that didn’t circulate the air in the room. Questions reemerged.

Markus was here on his own account, this Connor knew. Connor was good at what he did, he was very good, but the man in the living room was far better at everything. Markus was the top, the pinnacle of what they could do. He’d heard stories, everyone heard stories of the Deviant. Names came and went, but Markus’ had had stayed up their for longer than most lived. Twelve years. For the past twelve years, Markus had dominated the playing field.

Why him and why now? What changed? What caused the haggard man he saw before him, with sunken eyes and sallow skin?

Connor hated unanswered questions, but he hated begging for information too. If he could find out who this man was before he was the Deviant…

But how could Connor do that? He snorted. The man had lived in the shadows, become a shadow. People had tried, they always tried—to figure out the person behind the mask.

The notoriety of never being carved out, of never being exposed had given Markus an incredible advantage. No one knew how he did it, but Connor had an inkling.

Hackers were good and there had to be their version of Deviant in the community too. A person Markus had contacted to get himself wiped out of every database. In every country. Connor sighed.

There were things to get done, preparation for Gavin and for their move. Connor spent the rest of the day doing exactly that. The boring, easy, and mindless tasks he’d done enough times that they’d lost all meaning. Their importance didn’t decrease, they still had to be done, but Connor had grown accustomed to listening to classical music and think about other things while he finished security checks, figured out plans of moving Markus and the surgery he’d require from Gavin.

Markus was fast asleep, or appeared to be when Connor checked in on him around ten. The day had quickened into night and Connor grew tired as the minutes ticked by. He made sure the rope was tight and the knot untouched before leaving the room. He couldn’t scratch the itch that was Markus. The man could have escaped, Connor had left him enough openings to leave, but there he lay, still here. Markus wanted something, and Connor needed to find out what that was.

Why him? Others had hunted Markus too, sought after the ten million for their efforts, which led to the obvious question, what made him special? Connor had encountered his kind over the past year, killed a few and left a few unable to walk. It wasn’t unnecessary, Connor was built on necessary. It was necessary to eat, to drink and sleep. Necessary to take out opponents, ranging from unconscious to dead, depending on the situation.

But the question lingered in the background as he gave Markus one last look. When he looked at him, he didn’t see everything he’d expected. The strong, unflinching stance, a cold, ruthless killer, the remarkably robotic style of thinking, none of it came to mind. In its place stood a man, human in the way he tried to understand his surroundings, human in the way he stared endlessly at the walls, deep in an unknowable place. Thin and hungry and starved for something more.

Connor disliked the word something. It implied that the thing wasn’t known or there was too much to know. Implications were dangerous and so was he. But he found himself wanting that something too, though it remained far out of reach and hidden by a dark fog.

That night he went to sleep with mysteries in his head and a problem he hadn’t yet seen, but no matter the things in his head, Connor always slept light and woke up often. Nothing changed, nothing wavered.

And by magic, Connor hadn’t noticed the light flickering on in the living room.

We sit in a round table, a spotlight illuminating the center. A toddler, too young to even know what’s happening, her future on the table. A man bound by dedication, and… devotion (could it be love?), his stability on the table. Me… An adolescent with confusion in her eyes, heart torn apart between two worlds (for what?), my… growth and relationship on the table. I bet a lot of questions, I gave up knowledge, and put it on the table. A woman, tied to her chair, hands held up by strings, her… everything is on the table. An elderly woman, wearing the tragedy and comedy mask on, one of her hands holding the control paddle which I assume is what controls the other woman, the other hand is tied to a bunch of other people at the back. This woman doesn’t have anything on the table. How can that be? Is she a coward to refuse to gamble? There are spectators. Men in black suits, and women in cocktail dresses wear masks to cover their eyes, the same malicious smiles and smug smirks plastered on their lips. Is this some sort of show? There are a handful with scowls imprinted on their faces, teeth grazing lips as if holding back a snarl, eyes narrowed, and jaws clenched. Why are they so angry? At the heart of it all, there’s a revolver, a silent beckoning, “let’s play a game, shall we?”

The first to go is the woman. It’s funny how to puppet gains the will to go. But really, when has the master get on their bare hands and do the dirty work? She takes the gun with no hesitation, as if she has been wanting this – to put an end to everything. She loads the bullet. She spins the cylinder. She points it to her head and pulls the trigger.

She looks up to face me, mouthing the words, ‘I’m sorry.’ I am thrown into more confusion. Why has she said that? What did she do? This is the first time I’ve seen her features: stray grey hairs frame her face, almost too dry lips, cracked cheeks – must be from the dried tears, eyes lined with the color red – she has been crying. Time hasn’t been kind, but so was she. There is her beauty mark in between the hairs of her eyebrows and I knew. It was a normal day in my normal life with my normal family when my mother barged in the room and hugged us tight. She had said some cryptic words that I didn’t know the meaning of. Was she going to die? Where is she going? What happened? But at the thought that she will leave, I let myself cry. Even my sibling, who didn’t know anything, but felt the misery in the air, came to hug us. I didn’t even know the story but I cried. It was a day in my life with my family when we held each other and cried.

Just like waterfalls, the water continues to cascade down, splashing on the rocks with sounds that hurt the ears. In this tiny room, the shouts begin. Shouts of a grown man, insults thrown by the same man, the harsh whispers of the women draped in riches, eyes of jewels, and tongues of snakes – they all feel like a door slammed closed, leaving you in a suffocating room. The woman is silent. She is choking on her sobs. The shouts always fill the house. It makes me think that they are just filling up the space inside. Every other day is like this, and I don’t know what to do anymore. Hidden away in the safety of my own room, I can hear the words coming out of a man’s mouth like bullets. He drops bombs on her like she is a battlefield. What are you fighting for? Why are we going to war? I wonder if she can even feel the eyes on her, or the words directed at her. I want to hold her and tell her that I’m here, she can lean on me when the world seems against her.

The man is the second to go. His eyes rest on me when he pulls the trigger. His eyes are devoid of any emotions, but I want to ask him, why, simply why, why are you doing this, why are you continuing to do this? And yes, I do remember. The story is like an origami crane. It has too many folds and too many sides. But… the first to unfold the story to me is my father.

My room is my safe haven. The white walls paired with bright colors made the whole room come to life. It is filled with my memories, little trinkets to decorate my desks, words painted on the walls, my dreams and my hopes and my ambitions and my achievements all out in the open. There are pieces of me everywhere. There are pieces of everyone in the little things in my room. The little magnet given by a friend, a portrait drawn by my best friend, candies I haven’t eaten because of the words on them, keychains from my previous teachers, a t-shirt as remembrance for either my best or worst years – an origami star. And that day, there was a moment added to the room of mine with every little and big thing that captures a moment in my life. My father went in my room, sat down in the brown chair I’ve sat when I felt I needed to think – maybe this is what we needed: to think. His first words were, “I know that you want to know.” My first words were, “I know.” ‘I’ve put the pieces together, papa’ was left unsaid. And he did tell me everything.

When I was a child, I never believed that money made the world go ‘round. I was taught to be practical, reasonable, logical. I was taught when a mass is trapped in the gravitational field of another body, a set of equations from Johann Kepler tell us that certain stable orbits can result. When this happens, as is the case with our planet, the momentum that the planet had continues until something steels it away. So wasn’t it conservation of angular momentum? But… On that day, at 2 in the afternoon when my curtains were draped, my world suddenly stopped. And on that day, I realized I was wrong. Money made the world go ‘round. Debts mean that your world will be turned upside down – our world is turned upside down. The story almost flew over my head because I chose to hold on to the raw emotions of some of his commentaries.

“I’m trying to fix the broken pieces but she keeps breaking them.” There is a static silence. And silence can only hold so much. The man cries. I don’t know if it’s for relief or for anger.

I look at the people around me. I know the woman and the man’s sides. The people around is another story. Their laughs fill my ears and I can’t help but think that it’s mockery. I stare at a woman, her mouth in a straight line, and her brows furrowed. She is pitying us. I don’t need your sympathy, lady. The lady and her groupie looks at the woman in both pity and anger. They are seeing her as a villain. The women clad in dresses call out her name in reminder. Money, money, money. The men wearing fancy suits places their hands on the man’s shoulder. Some hold their own knives and guns behind their back, a sign of betrayal for the man. The others offer their hand in front of the man, giving him genuine help to get back up to his feet. But just like my father said, when the foundation for a new start is done, someone ends up knocking them over. I don’t know which side I should be on. I stick with holding both of the woman and man’s hands, an unspoken phrase, “I’m here.”

The next is the old woman in the mask. She effortlessly points the revolver to her head, like she has done this so many times that it doesn’t affect her anymore, like she just knows she won’t die. She keeps her face straight forward. Her comedy mask taunts me. Is this fun to you, woman? When she eventually fires the gun, it shoots somebody else in the room. Their cries echo out into the room and that’s when I noticed that the gun isn’t directly pointing on her head – it’s angled ever so slightly that it misses her… and ends up taking someone else’s life instead. Her tragedy mask jeer at me. You of all people shouldn’t mourn over the deceased when you yourself were the reason behind it. I glare at her with hardened eyes, fury dancing like fire. That’s when it all clicked. The mastermind of it all. The master, the controller, the one working behind the scenes, manipulating the game in order to work in her favour, is that old hag.

In the many memories of my father and I talking, the blurred visions in my mind, his eyes holding so much pain and sadness, the mechanical cogs in my brain tossing and turning, trying to make sense of everything, the crack in his voice, my silence as an urge for him to continue – to let it all out, his frustrations, his sorrows, his worries, and oh, his defeat, the bitter defeat that came with it all, there is one person that unraveled the threads in our family tapestry. Maybe… maybe this is part of our fate. Maybe in between the threads that hold the tapestry together, there was a person – a termite, a parasite disentangling the threads.

The story starts with her. We all knew of her money problems long before we have been thrown into the mix. She’s always running around, looking for people, asking them for money. With every large sum of money withdrawn, she is slowly digging her own grave, eventually falling into hell. This witch, suffering in her own form of Tartarus, decided it was too lonely and came back into the mortal realm to find someone to accompany her in her eternal damnation. I know how important it is to seek for guidance, for assistance – it’s healthy to know when to ask for help and to accept that help. But I also know that after we are helped, we have to learn. We have to learn to crawl back up to the surface, to finally breathe the fresh air. Now what did she do? She, with her vice-like grip. She, with her pleading eyes. She, with her begging. She, with her convincing act of the victim. And her. When people, innocent people go into the wrong crowds, falling for the false promises those people made, they can’t help but try it. “It’s going to be successful, I promise!” “We’ll be rich in no time!” “I have already planned this out, so there’s no way it’s going to fail!” Sometimes… the lines between obligation and love blur as one, and you think it’s for love, but what you feel is that you’re indebted to others, that you need to do this thing for them in order to repay them for every good thing they have for you. Her, with the shattering resolve. Her, with the same blood as the witch’s that courses through her veins. Her, with the thought of “I love you and love means sacrificing.” Her… with the feeling of “You have raised me and you have given up heart and soul for me, so I will gladly ruin myself for you.”

This crone in front of me, sitting in a chair of both needles and roses – I don’t care if you’re in pain – do you feel sorry for what you did? I know you are hurting as well, but isn’t this your own doing? I couldn’t care less. You have ruined our lives. When they think their children aren’t listening, the shouting starts. The walls hear them; they tell me what the adults are talking about. The days pass with tension in the air. There are unanswered questions hanging in the air, “what happens next? Is someone going to leave? Will you change? Will you forgive me?” I am made the messenger, delivering commands from opposite sides of the war. You have ruined your daughter’s image. Women circle her like predators; your daughter has her head held up high, and her body shaking. Women are throwing arrows at her heart; your daughter becomes merely a shell of what she used to be. Women are angry for the delayed payments; your daughter’s mind is breaking. You have ruined my father. As a lover, he gives and he gives, and he gives and he gives… until there is nothing left for himself. Mother shoots him in his heart. You are behind her, guiding her hands. His blood, his lifeline spills out. He thinks he has made a fool of himself and yet he himself takes out his heart and offers it. ‘It’s not enough,’ is what you think. You have ruined my mother. The world has turned against her. The people she has helped has crossed her, leaving more headaches for her. On the rare occasion that I stare at my mother, I think, “time moves on.” She looks older. There are eye bags under her eyes, a few more gray hairs – why aren’t there any laugh lines? She’s always tired now, too. I know she just wants rest now. I think, everyone needs it. And I guess, you can’t make emotional labour and mental stress disappear.

The gun slides over the table; it stops right in front of me. Oh, it’s my turn now. There is a new bullet in one of the chambers of the revolver. What does all of this mean to me? Why am I somehow connected to this web of lies? I pull the trigger.

Somehow, with my luck, it was like Pluto passing directly behind Jupiter, in relation to the earth. They all lined up and their combined gravitational force exerts a stronger tidal pull, which would temporarily counteract gravity here on earth. And I’m floating. I feel like I’m floating. These planets aligned themselves like how the loaded chamber aligned with the primer percussion mechanism and the barrel – the weapon is discharged. I imagine the bullet to be a beautiful comet, passing through me, and landing into something else – someone else. It was the toddler. What a beautiful tragedy. I meet the eyes of the people inside this room. They are filled with panic in the audience, madness in the man’s, shame in the woman’s, and is that guilt in the old woman’s? She doesn’t have the right to feel guilty.

I know why the chambers didn’t align with the others. It was because of their actions that led to this – the children dying. I know why the toddler has the future bet on the table. My sister is robbed of the future that I had the privilege to experience– the weekend getaways, the overflowing amount of toys, the endless support to try new things, the unstrained relationship with the other side of the family, the absence of worries, and… the atmosphere of true love between partners in a home.

The adults may not feel the direct attack of the actions, only dragging themselves through the battlefield, but we… the future generation, (is there even a future?), can feel the aftereffects of the nuclear bomb that has been dropped on us. The men and women here might have been atlas holding the world on their shoulders, but we are Andromeda, the chained princess, an offered sacrifice for the peace of everyone else.

I know why the shattered pieces of my heart and mind are on the table. On the other side, I’m walking on a tight rope; my back turned from the past, and walking to the unknown future. I hold a pole in my hands, my father’s side on the right, and my mother’s side on the left. Despite being on opposing sides, the outcome is the same: I fall to my doom. Despite going in the direction of what lies ahead, my head is held down, and my legs are wobbling on the thinning rope of my relationships. I – we – are in a dilemma. It is an unstoppable force – the criticism and judgmental thoughts thrown, the pleas of my father to think of us for the first time, the heavy tension carried in the silence versing an immovable object – the stubbornness of my mother, the unrelenting voice of my grandmother, both of their wills to make amends with the victims of their crime. Mother hasn’t stopped helping. Her golden heart will be the death of her. Father hasn’t stopped covering the holes my mother has left. His commitment is the bane of his existence. Mother tries to stitch my thread back into her side of the family. I have to sit through the occasions with the old hag. Perhaps I can make use of the comedy mask here. I have to be the perfect innocent doll, a smile plastered on my face, voice sickening sweet as if nothing is wrong. Mother looks at me with unspoken instructions, “please be nice.” How do you say “thank you” to the person who turned the fire inside my family into dying embers? How do I stay with the person who turned my little peaceful kingdom into ruins only told in legends and myths?

Blood drips down my head – I’m feeling kind of dizzy. My sister is matching the same expression as I have. This is it, this is the aftermath of the war. This is the consequences of their actions. And there is nothing good that happens in war. Only pain. Only sadness. Only guilt. Only regret. What good has come from this game? I learned the bloody truth. But in this game… we are infinitely waiting for our time when the stars align, and everything ends. This is a losing battle, everyone’s guns are at each other, hands around each other, ready to kill. In my dying breaths, I look around the room once more, the light illuminates the darkness that was once ignorance, and for the first time, I see them fully. My sister, her future taken away from her, sits beside me, covered in her own blood. My father, his devotion still drives him to move on, has his head in his hands, questioning where we had gone wrong. I take his hand and tell him, “It’s okay, I’m still here and I thank you.” My mother, the promise that everything will be okay maybe fades away, and I take her hand in mine, “I still love you,” slips out of my mouth in the softest voice. Grandmother, still in the safety of anonymity, lurks in the shadows, still following us. I place a kiss on the crown of my sister’s forehead. Everything is in fast pace, everything is chaos, and I’m left to wonder, is this how we fall apart?

After falling asleep and waking back up still in this god forsaken room, I know that I’m probably going to be stuck here until I can heal fully. Who knows how long that will be…

I can smell what seems like…pasta or something and my stomach growls loudly and angrily. How long have I been out for it to sound so aggressive? Looking over at the IV and the dresser I can see a ceramic white bowl and glass of water. Sitting up, I bite my lip to keep from moaning in pain at the aching and stinging that goes through my body. I have to push away the discomfort in order to sit up against the headboard of the bed to see what’s on the dresser. My mind and body are both groggy and starving. Have I been medicated while I was out?

Looking into the bowl I can see what looks like ravioli and my mouth immediately starts to salivate.

What if it’s poisoned, you jackass?

Well…that would be an issue for me to deal with later. I take the glass of water in my weak hands and drink it quickly before moving on to the ravioli and eating it greedily. It’s cold, but so so good.

Thanks to the nutrients my muscles feel slightly less like hell and I feel a tiny bit more awake. I set the empty dishes back on top of the dresser and toss the covers off of me. A slight moan of pain follows at the sudden movement.

Jesus Christ.

I’m barely wearing any clothes. There is a thick gauze that is wrapped around my torso like a makeshift bra making me feel like a burrito, and the tattered underwear that I showed up in is still (thankfully) on my lower half. There are smaller bandages on the smaller cuts I acquired during the fight the other day, and the skin on my body is littered with dark purple bruises. My foot is a different story. It’s completely wrapped up in a cast of sorts and I can see the tips of my toes. When I try to wiggle them I’m pleasantly surprised to see them move. Its hurts, yes. But this just means that it isn’t broken.

I have the urge to pee, but there are three doors and at least one of the leads to a world and to people I’m not ready to face. I don’t want to leave the room yet. I’m not sure what I’ll have to face once I leave the confines of this little safe haven. I snatch the IV out of my arm and hiss quietly.

Once the pain subsides, a yawn forces it way out of me, and I twist my body so that my feet dangle over the side of the bed. Okay, three doors. One has to be a bathroom right?

I hobble over to the door farthest from my bed (with much difficulty), and turn the handle. Behind door number 1 is a closet. There are only 2 outfits in here. A pair of black sweats, a gray t-shirt, gray shorts, and a dark blue long sleeved shirt. After looking down at my half naked body I decide that maybe I should put on some clothes. Who cares who they belong to? I throw the blue shirt over my body and groan with each stretch that my muscles have to make. I get it on without dying, and then grab the grey sweats for later. I let out a sigh and limp over to the next door. Luckily it is actually a bathroom.

I sit on the toilet to relieve myself and attempt to put the sweats on at the same time while I’m sitting down. The bathroom is smaller than the one I was used to using back home, but it was significantly cleaner. One would expect that of a restroom that isn’t being used by like 30 people.

The walls are cream colored and a walk-in shower stands next to the toilet. Its glass walls show that there is no tub of any sort, and if I want to bathe, I’m out of luck. A small sink sits across from the toilet with an oval mirror above it. The mirror is in a pretty golden frame, it’s definitely fake, but this particular fake would definitely fool any other amateur thief.

There are maroon towels on a silver rack above the toilet and I find myself nodding in approval. It’s a nice little bathroom.

When I finish wiping, flushing, and then washing my hands I finally take a look in the mirror. I don’t think that I’ve seen myself in a mirror in like a year. Of course I’ve seen my blurry reflection in glass and windows, but I’ve haven’t taken a good look at myself in a while. My face is clean of blood but the healed scars from previous encounters are still present. They’ve faded, but they stand out against my face. I pucker my lips and tilt my head to the side. My hair is a mess. Really, if they were going to clean me up they could have at least taken a brush and done something to the mess of strands that I dare call hair.

With a final sigh I turn off the light and struggle to situate myself back into the bed. I don’t exactly know how to reattach the IV so I lie down without it and let sleep and the left over medication over take me instead.

I wake up feeling way better than I did before I went to bed. I sit up, not sure of how long I was asleep, and nothing hurts. Surprising.

I lift up my shirt and the bandages are still on my body, but the bruises that decorated my skin have vanished. I swing my legs over the bed and again, nothing aches. When my feet touch the ground they both feel perfectly fine, and I realize that my cast is gone. I look around the room warily and notice that the IV is gone and my dishes from yesterday with it. This must be some kind of dream or hallucination. There is no way that I could be better all of a sudden.

I walk to the bathroom still with no signs of discomfort and turn on the lights. When I look in the mirror my eyes widen in horror.

All of my scars are gone.

No trace of a single skin discoloration adorns my face and I feel like I’ve lost some part of me. I’ve lost my scars, and all of their stories and reminders.

When I raise a hand to touch my face, it sinks in that they’re gone. A quick look under my sleeves show that there is no trace that I’ve ever had any sort of injury.

“What the fuck is going on...” I whisper to my reflection as I poke at my flesh. My skin is back to the way it was when I was a child…but my hair is still a hot mess. Decided to tackle the nest myself, I take my fingers and roughly rake them through the strands so that I can twist it in to a makeshift braid.

Now to deal with the real issues at hand. Where the fuck am I? What the fuck happened to my injuries? Where the fuck is Tao? I turn off the light in the bathroom and walk around the small room pensively.

I can’t stay in this room forever. Would it be better for them to come to me, or for me to go to them? I have no weapons, but Tao has taught me some self-defense over the years. I won’t be any match for him if we have to fight, but I could probably escape while fighting someone else. I take tentative steps to the final door. It’s the last door in the room, and it could either lead to my death or my salvation. I close my eyes and inhale.

Here goes nothing. Or everything. Whatever.

I turn the handle and ease the door open. It squeaks slightly and I cringe hoping that no one heard it. Peeking out the door I see one door across from my own. To the left are two more doors and to the right a set of stairs. As I expected.

Looking out of my own window I could already tell that I was in the upper half of a house, so now I definitely know there is another floor waiting for me.

I slide out of the room and close the door softly behind me. I stand in silence and can hear light talking and clattering down the stairs. I clench my fists and try to sneak down them. I press myself against the wall and I can see that there is a large wooden door down the hallway across from this staircase. If I make a run for it I can probably make it out of here. The carpeted stair creaks under me and the voices quiet. I squeeze my eyes together and let out a quiet curse. Looks like the Gods aren’t on my side.

“You can come out you know.” An unfamiliar voice calls out. I let out the breath I was holding and decide to face my maker head on. There’s no use in pretending I’m not here any longer.

I walk down the final stairs and to the left is a large opening that leads to a kitchen. The kitchen overlooks a large living room, a TV set up on its wall surrounded by comfy looking couches. At the kitchen island are two people. One is a tall man who looks very very intimidating. His hair is black and short. Shaved along the sides. He’s really handsome, but he looks guarded and frosty. He observes me while the other jumps out of his seat to pull me in a hug.

“Tao.” I deadpan. He tenses at my tone and pulls away sheepishly. I glance at the other male for a second more before turning my full attention on my friend.

“June look I just-”

“Shut it.” I say stonily. He closes his mouth and waits for me to continue on. “How long was I out?”

“About 4 days.”

“Why do I feel better already? I know for a fact that I had a sprained ankle and that doesn’t just heal overnight.” I press on. I can feel the other male’s gaze on my face, but I continue to question Tao.

“Um, Yixing came and healed you.” He says quietly.

“Yixing? Is Yixing a mu-” he covers my mouth with a hand before the slur can fall from my lips. We’re both very aware that calling the mutants “mutts” is an extremely derogatory term. He flicks his eyes over to the other guy in the room and I look at him again before it clicks. That guy is a mutant too. My eyes widen in horror. He brought me to a house of mutts. My eyes snap back to Tao and he shakes his head slightly as if to tell me not to freak out. I narrow my eyes but close my mouth. He moves his hand away and he relaxes slightly.

“June…this is Kris. This is Kris’s house.” He says motioning to the man. Kris stands up and I can see just how tall he is. I try to keep my expression neutral as he holds out his hand for a hand shake. When I make no move to meet his hand he closes it and coughs awkwardly.

“Follow me.” Kris says. So he was the one who spoke to me when I was hiding on the stairs. Usually such a statement would be a command, but this Kris guy says it as a suggestion. I feel as though he wouldn’t care if I listened or didn’t. Kris walks in to the living room I noticed earlier and sits on a couch perpendicular to the television, I sit in a chair parallel to him, and Tao sits on the couch between the two of us that faces the TV. The room is silent and I can almost touch the heavy tension in the air. Tao is the one to break the silence.

“So…” he starts. I send a glare in his direction and he swallows before looking away. Yeah, you’re in trouble you little shit.

“Why am I here?” I decide to ask.

“You were really hurt, and I didn’t want you to die out on the street! You were like really really hurt and I was already headed back to your place when I saw you passed out on the street so I brought you-”

“Tao I swear on my life, if you don’t shut your mouth. I wasn’t talking to you.” I say through clenched teeth. I can hear him whimper and I look at the Kris guy in the eyes. “Why am I here?” I ask again hoping that he gets the point. He stays quiet and continues to just observe me with his cold and guarded eyes. I can’t sense anything from his gaze. “What do you want from me? Why are you helping me?”

“Okay, I won’t sugarcoat things. You seem like a smart girl. And you look like you know what you want.” Kris starts. He glances at Tao who is looking down at the floor before looking back at me. “He’s right that I want to help you both. Tao has been staying here with me for years now, and as you can see he’s perfectly fine. I haven’t brought you here to hurt you, and Tao didn’t bring you here to betray you. I’m running a…cult of sorts. I, along with a handful of other individuals, are trying to overthrow the current royals. We don’t like how they are handling things, and we want a change. People are dying, your people are being hunted and killed, and my people are being enslaved and abused.”

“What does any of that have to do with me?” I ask snappily. This isn’t my problem. Who gives a shit what’s happening to his kind? They deserve it. They deserve to be treated just as shitty as they treated me.

“Well, we want you to join us. Right now it just me, a few other Charmers, and Tao. We need a girl- a human girl to go in to the castle. They need someone higher up on the inside to help them, and if you go in as the Queen’s human it’d be a huge step in the right direction.” He says while gauging my reaction.

Go in as her human he says? Memories flash before my eyes. Falling in to Momma’s ring and letting her push me around to do her bidding like some kind of work mule.

“…takes orders very well.”

“Very well trained…”

I blindly let her treat me as she wanted and she sold me out in the end. I’m not just someone’s toy. I am not a pet. I don’t belong to anyone.

“Look here Kris,” I let his name leave my mouth with as much venom as possible before continuing on, “I don’t know who the fuck you think you are. And I don’t know who you think I am, but I don’t belong to anyone. You can’t just ‘plant’ me in the castle like a fucking chess piece and expect me to just let her treat me like some kind of a play thing.” I won’t do it. I won’t let someone beat me and make me feel like shit any longer.

His face gives away nothing when he says, “You won’t be hurt under the Queen. That is the last thing she would do to you. You would be more like her daughter than anything else.”

“No. I’m not going to do it. That last person to treat me like a daughter sold me off to people like I was a cheap whore.” Which I guess I was, but I won’t own up to how little I was rented out for. “I’d rather be back out on the streets on my own than in there with those royal mutts.” I spit out, letting the slur fall between us. He flinches slightly as if my choice of words physically hurt him. Good. I hope they hurt.

“Fine.” He says. He blinks slowly and leans back in to the cushion of the couch. “Fine, go ahead and leave. Go back to back to the suffering the abuse, go back to selling and doing the drugs, go back to being scum.” He says icily. How did he know about the drugs? I didn’t say anything about selling…and especially not about doing them. I haven’t even used in over 2 years.

It clicks quickly and angry tears fill my eyes when I look over at Tao. My glare is full of betrayal and he doesn’t look up from the ground. He’s snitched. He’s given Kris reports on me. The first tear falls and I quickly wipe it away. I stand up quickly and Tao looks up at the sudden movement. “Fuck you.” I say. To whom it was directed at? I’m not sure myself. It was directed mainly at Kris, but I hope it reaches Tao and that he feels just as hurt as he’s hurt me.

I stomp angrily out of the room, but I don’t go out the front door.

No, I go right back up the stairs and back to the maroon room.

No Expectations

I've sat in a lot of cars with a lot of blondes.

When I was 16 the car was blue. I think my mother saw it as would a prudish Victorian would see a woman with a bicycle. We never did much good talking in there, though. We did some other things, which were largely clumsy and meaningless, despite contrary urgings of many insistent organs.

At 24 I brought a woman sunglasses in the parking garage. The car was silver this time. I bought a similar one many years later, though it was a hatchback, not a coupe, still manual, though. She told me obliquely about stresses in her life, at home, at work -- at the job I helped get her. She refused my $2 change for the glasses. I sat quietly and listened, feeling powerless.

Another time in that car we had just returned from viewing a dead body. She had cried publicly and insisted afterward that we must do something besides simply end the day. I suggested Waffle House. She had milk with her plate, no caffeine after 5:00 pm. Sitting across from her I made the director's frame with my fingers, capturing her face. She smiled, she laughed. She looked at me the way you look at someone who hasn't just seen a dead body.

Later that night I didn't want to leave the car, the silver. We sat and listened to music. Feeling bold, feeling foolish, simply feeling, I reached over and began to scratch the back of her neck, where it met her head.

"Is that where you said you liked to be touched?"

She hesitated for a moment but yes, I'd found the spot.

You'd think I'd remember the song that was playing. I don't.

In my state of confused bliss, I had hardly noticed that she'd come much closer to me, eyes closed, head angled slightly out towards me. I may have even said "Oh" out loud.

I moved to the other side of the country to save my sanity.

There was another blonde, this time in an SUV, maybe a CRV, maybe silver too. We'd sung karaoke earlier. It was the first time we'd seen each other after she'd decided to stop dating me several months earlier. I'd taken the bus from West Hollywood to Santa Monica to meet her. She was quite late.

I ordered a bucket of shitty beers, of which she drank none and I drank all six. Still, we picked up as if there were nothing awkward between us. It was fun.

She was impressed by my singing, or at least the potential in my singing. My last song of the night was "Aenima," a song that literally welcomes Los Angeles falling into the ocean. When the music began a drunk young man said "OH MAN HE'S DOING TOOL" and was completely into it as I went through the song. It was fun.

I don't quite remember if she offered to drive me to a bus stop or if we just ended up in the car to chat. I was about to go when she said "Hey, I got your email about the opera." I used to visit the Los Angeles opera using heavily discounted tickets and invited her to a show, but she never responded. She told me that she felt terrible about her non-response but that she had been very busy lately and we had a history of some sort, but tonight she realized that it was not a problem and that she had a lot of fun with me.

She came to two events during my farewell week before I moved 1/2way across the country. We walked back to the car, parked alone on a big street not far from the university and bar where we'd been earlier. But this time I didn't go inside.

The last blonde, the last car.

The car was red. I'd been in it before. Several times, actually. At first we talked about my feelings. I didn't hide them save for one word. And then she declared that she must be honest. And it hurt, of course, but not terribly. Because she was there. And her hand was in mine. Eventually both were. And she didn't mind. She was kind and generous and funny. I said these things. She didn't know about us, though. I was not terribly serious or organized. I could be, I insisted, which is true. The practice of life is not hard. Living, however, is a bit more challenging.

Do you know "A Hard Day's Night?" I asked.

Still.

She wants to meet many men, explore the social world. Of course, of course. I didn't hide the fact that I was prepared to make the kind of commitment one doesn't spontaneously discuss in a parked car.

She broached the idea that perhaps, for me, this might be a good place to cut things off entirely. That she didn't want to raise expectations. I declared flatly that I had no expectations. She appreciated this. She appreciated me playing the role of a proper man inviting her on a date. Cultural differences, she said, seemed to prevent us from connecting on such a level sooner. Sure, I said.

She's a scientist. I, on the other hand, she said, am artistic. Passionate. Emotional. My depth of feeling is written on my face, which is either smiling wildly or frighteningly miserable, often even at rest.

The discussion moved on to the carnal. It only mattered if there were feelings behind it. Can I live without it? she asked. I said I took care of things the old fashioned way without a partner.

I was very tired. You're a man, you're attractive, she said. Explaining away the closest we got.

"What did Freud say? A dream is the fulfillment of a wish. It wasn't like a dream come true, for me, because it wasn't even a wish I'd considered. It was something else. It changed things for me."

Of course she was a bit frightened, but she wanted me to speak honestly, as she had.

We're somewhere in-between. But we need to take a break.

She'd said earlier how in life you have a more or less fixed cast of characters. I thought this was pretty insightful. "I'm not sure I want to find out what that means for me," I said. "So I won't ask."

I insisted to her that I didn't feel that way about her. That she was something -- someone -- special to me. She is. She is. But, in many ways, I've been here before, haven't I?

Justicar verse (part 2)

N/A: Uhm, I want to make this have only 5 parts. It is a small challenge for me. So...let´s see if I can really do it. Cadbury and Kitty will meet and Go Girl deserve to be a heroine. Implications will be throw and again, I´ll try to make worldbuilding.

The view of Wakanda is truly breathtaking and no matter where you stay in Wakanda, you need to see the sunset of Wakanda because it is something akin to spirituality and Ororo Monroe can only let her smile show how this is completely true. And even more, as she´s watching the sunset on her balcony of the royal palace of Wakanda.

Drinking water and gazing fondly at the ring on her middle finger- one that was designed to represent the beauty of this country and all its glory- makes everything sweater and Ororo can still remember the day the man of her dreams offer such jewelry to her. And is revert from her daydreams when a voice drawls her back to reality. "Ororo, are you still here or in the astral plane?" and the Witch Weather looks to see the King of Wakanda, for once, without his Black Panther´s mantle.

"If I was in the astral plane, silly, you wouldn´t be seen me...or would you?" Ororo asks crossing her arms -letting her glass of water on the table before- and smiles at the man who is now thinking so hard she can even see the gears working on his mind. "T´Challa, I´m joking...you would still see me if I was in the astral plane...God, Shuri was right, you´re a nerd" Ororo jokes and T´Challa is not bothered by the joke. Only sighs in relief.

"I´m happy to hear that" T´Challa speaks in an easier tone now-not the first time the women in his life call him a Nerd and T´Challa won´t deny this statement- finally took notice of the newspaper placed aside on the table "Are you keep tabs on what´s happening in the US?" his tone is casual but Ororo only needs to arch one of her elegant eyebrows to make the King of Wakanda drop the poor act.

"I wish you would not bother with what happens there" He states calmly and honest as Ororo sighs and looks away for a moment but the man continues. "But, it wouldn´t be the woman I love if you didn´t care...so tell me, Ororo, tell me what´s in your mind, please" he begs softly.

Ororo´s eyes direct to the ceiling, yet, T´Challa can bet she´s not really noticing the architecture and is drifting away to her past-one that T´Challa does not know all the details.

Her eyes land on T´Challa´s own eyes and she speaks without a filter this time. "I keep thinking...is the cure the real answer?" she inquiries more to herself than to T´Challa. "I know mutants that would give anything to be able to have normalcy" she speaks and gazes at his eyes lovingly now.

"I once knew a mutant that would do anything to be able to touch someone" She caresses his face for a moment. "To have this type of intimacy..." she flashes a kind smile to him as he kisses her hand and Ororo continues now with a forlon look. "Yet, I can´t help by thinking this cure may not be perfect...after all, are they signing up for this?"

"Ororo" T´Challa begins. "No one is forcing them to be cured."

"Yes, but, T´Challa...I´m not an omega...I´m a Beta...should I give up on my powers? Should I feel lucky my powers are so useful and only pity the others for not being blessed?"

"You´re my Queen and if anyone dares to hurt you...it will have to pass through me" His tone is sharp and words don´t doubt the sincerity of his words, but, can´t help by thinking in the what-ifs scenarios.

"And if I wasn´t your Queen? I can´t think of my life without my powers and at the same time...how can I say mutants should be proud of their powers if their powers cause detriment to themselves" Ororo asked again more to herself than to T´Challa.

Black Panther has no answer yet.

 At least you had made the day for Tom special. He was about to meet Loki in the next few minutes.

A hell, what were you talking about. This day was special to you too, but you were to precarious to let the fact that you were INSIDE the most special building with the most special persons get under your skin.

 Banner caught your attention again. “Have you tried to materialize from one place to another?”

Materialize? What?! “No, I.. I was shocked enough to be stuck half in a wall to try what else humanly impossible I could do.” You sighed. “Sorry, that came out rude…My head is dizzy from all that mind spinning.” Tom put his hand on your knee and squeezed lightly.

“You have every right to be rude for a while, darling.”

 Bruce laughed a little. “You should´ve seen me as my… Anger issues… just had begun. Although I would advise you not to get on Loki’s nerves too much.” He smiled a half smile and Tony snorted a little. The sliding doors opened up and a rock of a man with blond hair stood in front of you a second later. Thor…

“What´s up with the call Tony? We don´t have another heart to heart on the round table again? Oh, who are these…Oh boy…” Thor only took a second notice of you before standing in front of Tom.

He sized Tom up with a very intense glance. “This is freaky!” Thor boomed and shook his head and turned to Tony. “Don´t you see that? Did you call me because of this?” Tony seemed clueless and shrugged. “Don´t know what you mean Thor, I called you to fetch your brother and bring him here. Where is he now?!”

 “Common? Seriously? Don´t you see it?” Thor laughed a little. But then the doors opened anew and a somewhat bored looking Loki came in. Hands on his hips he looked around.

“You needed my presence?” He looked at you. Directly into your eyes and you felt an electric shock inside your head. “Oh…what have we here… You found someone to pass the time with.”

His mischievous smile was some sort of handsome.

 Tom stood up and cleared his throat. “Excuse the interruption Mr Loki. God of.. Prince of…”

Oh my, Tom stammered like he was star struck all over again. “This…is.. I mean, she is… I am…”

Loki let his head fall back and rolled his eyes. “Not another stumbling, mumbling court jester. She´ll do to put me out of my misery for a while” Tony had to keep a laugh from escaping him. Bruce came to the rescue.

“I´m Tom and it is so good to finally meet you in the flesh. I think you really were misunderstood all the last years and..” Loki eyed Tom anew and tilted his head. “Maybe not a jester.. maybe another Loki’s Army member.” He teased which made Tom grin.  

Thor couldn´t hold himself back any longer. He took his brother and just put him next to Tom as if he weighed nothing or wasn´t someone you´d better not mess around with. Then again, they were brothers and possibly used to manhandling each other. Having Tom and Loki now next to each other he fanned his arms out and leaned back a little. “There… Don´t you see it?!”

“Did you hit your head on your hammer?!” Tony asked as he could stop himself from laughing. Drying the tears that had spilled out of his eyes. “That´s a very good question Stark!” Loki prompted and crossed his arms over his chest, just like Tom did. Thor just threw his hand out to point at those two men and looked exasperated. Bruce narrowed his eyes and stood next to Thor for a second.

“Ah.. I can see what you….nah, sorry.. can´t see anything.” He stated and looked again. Thor just hollered. “They look alike! It´s like they are mirror images of each other.”

Thor cringed a little and nodded to his brother. “You´ll be under our protection from now on, but you´ll have to learn to harvest and handle your powers quick. And you need to learn to fight!”

Tom looked a bit frightened on your behalf. “I´ll be by her side. Train me too!” He said hoarse.

Tony looked into Loki’s eyes. “As you both seem to have the same lean frame as Thor so unintendedly demonstrated I need you to train him…and her. You know how to handle her abilities best. Bruce and I will hit the lab and try to bring something up like a suit or protection for her. We will probably need to pick your brain about how to build in everything her abilities will need to function correctly.” He took a deep breath as Loki nodded in understanding. “I´ll send Peter to the hotel to collect your stuff.  “Your turn!” Loki called Tom over and, in an illusion, changed his looks into Toms. You could see the resemblance Thor had pointed out more than once now. But besides that, Tom and Loki were like night and day. You had no problems to tell them apart, even with Loki’s tricks.

“Don´t fight like a gentleman…you know that can get you killed very fast! Fight a little more…mischievously” Loki said as he took his position opposite Tom and drew 2 short wooden katana swords.

 Tom held onto his one longer katana and took his starting position. He had learned fast and was good at it. His acting in some period films had him in a little bit of an advantage. Already trained with a sword he could hold of Loki for a while. It was to Toms credit that Loki grinned when he got blocked and fought off more often than not today. Loki enjoyed the sparing with your boyfriend. And if you weren´t that exhausted you would enjoy it a hell of a lot more too. Tom was hot! He moved fast and nimble and just looked insanely at ease fighting a god.  

 Bruce came in and sat beside you against the wall and watched Loki and Tom going head to head.

“If I wouldn´t be a fan of your boyfriend already I would be now!” he smiled and you laughed.

“You are both coping really well with your situation.” He added.

You smiled and looked at him. “I only cope with it because Tom is at my side. He put his life on hold for me. He put me first…” Bruce looked at Tom and then in your eyes again.

“He loves you invariably... and you love him that way too. It´s pretty obvious to everybody around here that the two of you are one heart in two bodies….one soul…” Bruce had become a friend in your eyes. He always seemed to find the right words. He was a wholeheartedly good person.

“Thank you, Bruce.” You smiled and the both of you cheered as Tom almost…almost put Loki on his back.

 When you weren’t in the gym you were in the lab with Bruce and Tony working on your very own armoured suit or in the conference room trying to reconstruct your family and finding out more about your heritage. There were some clues you still had to unravel but it was obvious that your gran had been the one to pass on some extra genes that made you who you were today. Deciding that living in the past wasn´t the way of living you needed these days you stopped investigating in favour of training your abilities and fight skills.

Tomorrow you and Tom would fly back to London for 2 weeks and then come back to the compound again. You needed to gather some things in your home and bring them here to resume your training.

 Loki would sporadically show up in London to help you stay focused and as a failsafe security measure. Tom had requested it and Loki was more than willing to escape his daily routine in the compound. After the initial somewhat wrong start the two of them had they became some sort of friends. Tom acting as Loki’s conscience now and then, and Loki training Tom to fight dirtier, play dirtier if need be. He couldn´t change the core of your man, but he could help him accept the chaos that lived even inside him…and embrace it at times.

 Laying in bed with Tom after a hot, steamy shower you cuddled up to him and kissed him.
