one fundamental thing about me that i've learned as i've gotten older is that i am incapable of experiencing someone interact with something i love. like i tell someone to listen to a podcast i really like, i Cannot be with them as they listen to it. if it's a movie that's really near and dear to my heart, i Cannot be with them when they watch it. and very especially physically being in a room with someone AS they read anything i've ever written makes me want to break out in hives. nope. discuss it afterward? hell yes! hear their thoughts and feelings once they've finished it somewhere else? sure! but make me experience it with them and i am a squirming leech on a hook who yearns to be eaten by a fish to be taken out of my intense misery.
#liveblogging life#like most neuroses in my life we can blame this one on my mom for her incapacity to be tactful#the amount of times she's immediately told me something i love is terrible has definitely contributed to this lol#but also thinking about the MULTIPLE times i've tried to listen to a podcast with someone and just Cannot Bear#their utter silence or seeming indfference#nope! the cringefail nature of someone not liking something i really like in real time makes me want to die#and i cannot stress this enough: i CANNOT be in the same room as someone as they read something i wrote#i let my mom read some of my published poetry (finally) and like. it was definitely a mistake lol#but it wouldve been a BIGGER mistake if i hadnt told her point blank she needed to take it home and read it away from me#blame my hypersensitive autistic ass i guess??? but any reaction that is Not What I Want must mean they Hate It or s/t#much much much prefer to rec something to someone and have them get back to me later with their opinions#brought back by remembering the trauma of trying to share a comedy podcast with my sister#in a car ride where she listened in absolute silence. i couldnt even get through the whole thing#like 20m in i was like. okay we can listen to something else now.#it was HORRIFYING. how do you people do it.

I’m curious as to what you think about the friendship between Tifa & Aerith with the remake & if you have any (possibly in-depth) analysis of their friendship? Watching them interact during the remake really made me think about how much Tifa cares for Aerith & vise versa. I love how their friendship progresses over the game. I hope we get to see more of it in future games. I’m all about Cloti but I also love whatever Tifa & Aerith got going on for themselves, just the ladies lol
I gotchu, nonny!
About time we show everyone these girls can get along and hopefully people will stop trying to erase one of them!
Ok, spoiler warning for ppl who haven't played – do I still need to do this? Eh ok, (I tag FF7R spoilers as final fantasy 7 remake spoilers) and it's gonna be a VERY long one so prepare to scroll.
Also, this is one person's interpretation of the scene, so if you disagree that's cool and we'll agree to disagree.
You're also gonna have to excuse the janky quality on some of the screens, I'm grabbing them from Youtube and it's frustrating af trying to get the exact moment I want.
Other analyses if anyone's interested.
Shinra HQ vision scene (Cloti/plot analysis)
Chapter 3 (Cloti reblog)
Tifa character analysis
Aerith Resolution (plot analysis/theory – I should probably update this since I've had other ideas since then)
Train graveyard (not really an analysis, but I got some sweet screenshots of Cloti)
Clotiscrew tunnel analysis
Cloti reunion analysis
The Promise Analysis
Andrea's approval (Cloti ask response)
Cloti action touching
Now, strap in and enjoy the ride.
Before the recap I'm just gonna say the vid I'm taking this from is over 20m of them being friends and they didn't even meet until late in chapter 9 and they weren't even together after chapter 12 and only reunited in chapter 17, so if they can manage to become bffs in such a short amount of time then yall warships can calm your chill too.
Oh and I'm also throwing in some Cloti asides since Cloud is in all of this too and I wanna lol. Maybe next disc we'll get more of the girls without the leading man.
Quick recap for anyone who's forgotten the series of events.
Tifa's gone to get info out of Don Corneo at Wall Market and asked Cloud to go back to Sector 7: “You've seen how much ass I can kick”
Aerith's decided that's a bad idea, so they head in and jump through a series of side quest hoops to get them inside Corneo's place.
After the goons knock them out and take them to the basement, Cloud wakes up and sees Tifa, who asks if he's ok. After his embarrassing moment where he remembers he's wearing a dress in front of his crush, Aerith wakes up.
Eugh, I've mentioned the utterly janky quality on some of my screenshots right? There's a split second after this where Aerith is beaming at Tifa that I'm trying to capture but it’s just not happening.
Okay, so Aerith has literally just woken up and the first thing she does is bounce over to Tifa and introduce herself, all smiles and cheer. Tifa for her part is confused but polite because who is this girl? This is pretty simple from Tifa's pov. She is just confused, but polite. There's no signs of “rawr that's my man over there you can't touch”.
Aerith is like that one kid who's always first to greet new people. She's very much the extrovert, compared to Tifa's introvert.
(Bonus: Grumpy Cloud is grumpy. It's like he expects Tifa to be more responsible when he hears her insane plan lol)
So, after hearing Tifa's story and hearing the obvious concern in her voice, Aerith jumps in to reassure her. You'll notice she's leaning forward with open arms. This is simplistic body language, she's being open and earnest. Tifa has her full attention on Aerith, so she's listening without any signs of dismissing her – even though they've literally just met and she has no idea what Aerith is like or what she might say.
(Bonus: Cloud rolling his eyes. He thinks they're both crazy lol)
Responsible Tifa makes a return here! After Aerith's done enthusiastically throwing all of them to the wolves, Tifa shows concern. She knows Cloud and she can fight, but she's worried Aerith will get hurt because of her. This is a girl she's just met and we've seen how she is with strangers (shinra middle manager), so going along with Aerith's idea with no reservations wouldn't be her. Both girls have semi-relaxed body language. Their poses are mirrored, so there's no one is better than the other here. They're meeting as equals.
(Bonus: Cloud appears to be looking at Tifa's butt in this screen lol)
So, we're out of the basement and dealing with rapists. Fuuuun. FF7 really went there back in the day huh? Tifa and Aerith are on the same page, you'll see. They're both disgusted. Aerith probably more so than Tifa, who I expect is a little more used to dealing with scumbags who don't take no for an answer. Semi mirrored body language – Aerith has her hands protectively in front of her while Tifa's are by her sides so that she can better strike a fighting pose.
(Bonus: Cloud at this moment in time is calling Corneo a depraved bastard lol)
Aerith's little eyebrow raise and knowing look here. Now, she doesn't actually know how much ass Tifa can kick, but it looks like she suspects anyone who knows Cloud has skills. Not to mention he told Aerith that Tifa can handle herself. (Or maybe it's meta!Aerith, who knows?) She's expectant, anyway and Tifa delivers. Not to mention the teasing dialogue the goons mistake for being sexy. But that's what douchebags get.
Vicious Aerith is vicious lol I just wanted to add this one because it's a great expression for her and actually shows a different emotion from her besides her typical mask of cheer. She actually looks convincingly dangerous here, unlike most of the time when she's about as threatening as a cupcake lol
So Aerith kicks the douchebag and Tifa follows up in a seamless display of co-op that showcases her fighting skills. She takes Aerith's lead and goes for it.
Then comes the fight scene. Massive co-op between the girls. Tifa protects Aerith at one point, who uses the opportunity to grab a makeshift weapon.
Tifa is the disciplined fighter using her Zangan martial arts and Aerith...uses a chair lol
I have to admit that's one of my favourite moments with her in the entire game. It also fits with the expression she pulled at the start of the fight – that vicious look showed just how far she'll go when she wants to win.
Both girls, all smiles, complimenting each other for a job well done! What else is there to say about this? Oh, yeah, neither of them needs a lesson in how to high five lol
Remember, they've just met like an hour ago, if that. They're already high fiving and getting along.
Ok, so we've moved on from Corneo's place and now we're in the sewers. Here's where we hit a change in behaviour from Aerith. She's no longer the bouncy puppy jollying everyone along to be cheerful and optimistic. She's now become very serious and grave. She could choose to reassure Tifa that the slums are safe, but instead she urges them to hurry. This is likely another instance of meta!Aerith knowing things before they happen.
Tifa is very in her own space during this section of the game; she's worried about her friends and her home, so there's a sense of urgency in all her dialogue. Worry is clear in her tone and Aerith empathises with that and reinforces the need to get back.
You'll notice in most of these moments between them that we're looking over Tifa's shoulder. That's her perspective we're getting, as opposed to when we get scenes with Cloud when we're standing in a third party location watching both. This is deliberate framing so that we relate to Tifa in this situation. We’re looking at Aerith with some distance, but a human perspective rather than an omniscient one.
(Bonus: Cloud still takes the time to flirt with Tifa by reminding her of their little “sayings” interaction from chapter 3)
About halfway through the sewers and the gang has to cross a manky water way. Cloud goes first, leaving Tifa and Aerith behind. Tifa is still worrying about what Corneo said. Her body language, expression and voice all convey a deep fear of what will happen.
Aerith, though probably meta!Aerith, again doesn't act how she did when they first met, which is to reassure her things will be ok. She's become very serious and quiet, unlike how she was in the beginning. Her face here clearly says she knows they won't stop the plate from falling, but I think she knows if she says anything it would just make things worse. She and Tifa are only just sort of friends at this point, so she probably believes it isn't right to confide in her when she's already worried about so many people.
You'll see again the perspective is Tifa's and she notices that something is wrong with Aerith. Despite having so many other concerns, she notices that Aerith looks down. Her question is that of someone wanting to have all the information about the worst case scenario, but before she can find out anything Cloud tells them to keep moving (nice timing)
And now we're at the crossing bit. Tifa's made her way over and waits with Cloud for Aerith. Tifa's very encouraging at this point, reassuring Aerith that she's almost across. Once the platform topples into the muck, she reaches out a hand and pulls her to safety. This is another example of Tifa being the protector.
(Bonus: Cloud grabs Tifa when she staggers.)
“Then it's a date.”
It's likely that by this point Aerith has realised Tifa is spiralling with worry. She offers words of comfort and says to think of something fun. They agree to go shopping, and Tifa suggests bringing Cloud along to carry their stuff (lol bf role)
What's interesting is their contrasting body language here. When Tifa lowers her guard she puts both hands behind her back, opening herself up. It's a vulnerable position for a fighter to be in.
Aerith does the opposite. She's put her hands in front of herself in a protective gesture. This makes me think that even though she's being genuine with Tifa, she's holding something back from her as well. This is likely another meta!Aerith moment because she's aware of her approaching death and doesn't want to make too deep a bond with any of the group.
(Bonus: flirty little lean forward and “nothing” from Tifa when Cloud asks what they said about him)
“I saved her, she saved me”
I know that's a line from Cloud, but it applies to Tifa and Aerith too. Tifa saved Aerith from the sludge and now Aerith grabs Tifa's hand to pull her to safety from the collapsing walkway.
Aerith knows she can rely on Tifa to help her and now Tifa knows the same.
Now, I've seen a theory floating that whenever Aerith touches someone she shows them a vision of OG canon. I'm taking this moment to point out that even though she grabs Tifa's hand, you can see she never touches her skin. Idk if this theory is right – I've not examined every time she touches someone – but it's an interesting idea.
(Bonus: Cloud pulling his “oh shit, Tifa in trouble I must rescue” face as the walkway caves in)
YAAS TEAMWORK!! They're more in sync than in the Don's place as they automatically work together to save Cloud, who looks annoyed that he didn't make it on his own lol
After that it's further into the sewers until we get to the waterpump minigame (I hated this).
Cloud is about to suggest he goes, but Tifa cuts him off, so she and Aerith head over to do it. Now, I was expecting some kind of chat between them or some kind of war hint, but it was literally just the minigame and nothing else. I guess the absence of something is something too?
And this is probably the only shipwar image in the entire game, so take it in, people.
I don't like it. I didn't like how it made me not like Aerith after everything she and the others have gone through until this point. Her dialogue towards Tifa is meaner than any other time and I feel like this is OG Aerith – the one yall expected. She mentions Cloud is “her” bodyguard – something Tifa wasn't even aware of since it's never been mentioned until this point and Tifa looks hurt by the way Aerith is talking to her. That's not jealousy on her face. She's dismayed this person she thought was a friend is acting not like a friend. The fact Cloud notices this and backs up Tifa's side by saying “Ghosts aren't my thing” is evidence he supports her and won't let anyone hurt her.
This is not a nice image. Hope the OG fans enjoyed it though and I hope it's the only shipwar reference Square makes. Tifa's worried/scared, which has more to do with the ghosts. Cloud is ambivalent; he's being SOLDIER Cloud. Aerith is enjoying the chaos she’s caused.
And the nasty shipwar moment is over and they're back to being friends again. Tifa's fear through this section of the game makes her cling to Aerith when the lights go out. Aerith, for her part, calls Tifa to her, so that she can look after her. It's a nice moment to rebalance their friendship after that earlier bullshit.
Tifa looks worried – although I've said before her default expression is pensive, which makes sense considering her personality.
Aerith doesn't look afraid at all. She looks curious. One of them wants to be there and the other very much doesn't lol
(Bonus: Cloud grabbing Tifa and protecting her is everything)
And we're past the bit with the ghosts stealing Aerith away and Cloud and Tifa rescue her.
Tifa crouches down and comforts Aerith. She's kind and sympathetic and you'll also notice that this is the first time we're seeing Tifa from Aerith's pov. This is what Aerith sees when she looks at Tifa. Someone kind who came to help her. A friend. Tifa smiles and offers her hand, reinforcing their friendship and that she'll be there to support Aerith.
(Bonus: Cloud and Tifa's complementary body language here towards Aerith really highlights how much in sync they are. They both touch the same shoulder and have similar poses. They really look like a couple whose goal is protecting their friend.)
And now in a reversal we have Aerith comforting Tifa. This is hollow comfort, however, since Aerith knows what's about to happen and they can't stop it. This is evidenced by the fact we can’t see Aerith’s eyes. Her expression is concealed. This doesn't stop her from reaching for Tifa because she sympathises with her struggle.
Tifa saves Aerith again, this time from falling pipes. Their friendship is growing, although at times it feels one sided. Tifa is the protector, looking after Aerith, while Aerith is the one who relies on Tifa. It goes towards Tifa's maturity, compared to Aerith's free-spirit. Tifa is the responsible protector, while Aerith doesn't have to be because she's got people who look after her.
This could be another instance of meta!Aerith, since she's very calm when she says this and doesn't try to stop Tifa. She might know that Tifa will be ok if she goes. Her word choice is....odd. It's not really her heart Tifa's following, it's her principles. She can't stand by and let people get hurt when she can do something about it. But the way Aerith says this line is pretty telling. There's actually a big difference when meta!Aerith is on the scene compared to OG Aerith – who is annoying af.
It's the mark of a fast friendship that Aerith can tell this about Tifa, that she needs to go help, but then again, it's also not that hard to figure Tifa out when she's so open. I can't think of a single instance in the game when Tifa isn't straight as an arrow.
So, we've had very few moments when we're looking at Tifa through Aerith's pov. And now we're back looking at Aerith through Tifa's pov. The look on Aerith's face is very serene and reminds me of the one in the bar when she saw the flower. That definitely suggests to me that this is meta!Aerith and that's who has been building friendships this time around and not OG Aerith – who is still annoying af.
I'm further convinced of this when Aerith mentions Marlene and the look on Tifa's face is all “What?” while Aerith's suggests she knows exactly where to find Marlene, what she looks like, how old she is, when her birthday is and what she had for breakfast.
An unspoken communication passes between them. Lots of micro expressions here and some quiet hums and nods. I mean, if we're at telepathy then they're definitely friends.
Despite being reserved, Tifa grabs Aerith's hands in gratitude. For someone who doesn't display physical affection a lot, this is meaningful for Tifa. She trusts Aerith and she's relying on her to save Marlene. She's grateful and doesn't have the words to express it. She just nods, once, and her eyes are damp like she's trying not to cry.
And one last teamwork shot because look, neither of these girls needed lessons how to high ten...Cloud lol
Ok, the last one is the most important – typical.
Tifa's asked Aerith if she's ok a lot over the course of the game – which is a lot a lot when you think how little time they had together. This is the first time Aerith asks after Tifa's wellbeing. It's probably one of the few times anyone asks how Tifa's doing and they don't mean physical condition. Sure, Cloud asks, but we know why. Everyone else assumes Tifa can handle it. Tifa says she can, so it must be true. Even when she's shaking from repressing her urge to cry. Even when she can't sleep at night.
I noticed this my first playthrough because it stood out, and it's meant to stand out. This concern from Aerith to Tifa and Tifa to Aerith is mirrored through their interactions. It's supposed to make you think better of the girl who isn't part of your ship. It's supposed to make you draw a line under OG Aerith and Tifa's jealous rivalry and start thinking of them as friends. Because they are friends.
Conclusion:
The devs tried to end the ship war by making the girls more friendly towards each other in hopes that yall would stop bashing the one you don't like. These girls clearly have little rivalry going on. They're supportive, kind, open and understanding towards each other. Their friendship is one of my favourite things in the game and did actually go a long way to making me like Aerith – did I mention I hate OG Aerith?
Instead of arguing who Cloud loves more, why not try appreciating each girl for the qualities she brings to the overall game and to each other's life?
Aerith likes Tifa. Tifa likes Aerith.

Enterprise Crowd - Christmas Special
Summary: A mission gone wrong. A landing party stranded in a snow storm. A relationship that needs some serious alone time. She is our mutinous Lieutenant Reader, part of Enterprise IT. He's her commanding chief engineer. And they're 60 inches deep in snow. Wordcount: 1500ish A/N: So.. yeah. Surprise! I’ve had this in my head for a while now. And I think it’s the perfect time to be jolly and strand two asshats on an Class K planet to sort out there stuff. Warnings: Cursing, more cursing, rocky relationship, age difference, there is so much fluff on the horizon you have no idea, i hope you’re excited as i am
A bitter cold wind tore at the sleeves of your life-support suit, ripped back the cowl of your jacket exposing your ears and eyes and nose to the freezing cold. The lace you had been absent mindedly chewing on while you tried to ignore your slowly freezing finger tips slowly turned into ice. „Fuck that Vance.“, you yelled over the howling storm and loosened your grip on the railings before you, swinging slightly in your climbing harness. „Why did no one bother to install a remote service system before?“ „Dunno.“ Vance replied and the marshmallow like silhouette you could make out in front of you seemed to shrug. „Like, you know - in fucking summer. When the fucking sun is shining. And my fingers are not fuck-„ „If I have tae here that word one more time, Y/N, I’m gonna need ta take disciplinary action.“ sounded a ruff scottish accent over your intercom. The silhouettes shoulders shivered suspiciously. „And to answer yer questions: Because the summer sun would melt yer pretty right face af.“ The silhouettes shoulders shivered more violently now and you could hear a muffled laughter over the intercom. Raising one hand you gestured over to the figure, tracing your neck slowly with your index finger as a warning. „Aye, Mr. Scott. Understood, Mr. Scott.“, you muttered. Vance made obscene gestures with his hands. „Now get the job finished, I dinnae want you two frozen to that relay.“ „Aye, Mr. Scott“, you replied, your voice flat and hopefully devoid of any mutinous emotions. Vances voice buzzed over the intercom as well in affirmation of your orders, then the intercom went silent. „Fuck you, Vance.“ you mouthed in his general direction.
Finishing work on the relay was once thing. The 400 meter climb back down in the icy cold was another. As was being basically chained to Vance during the whole ordeal. „So, Y/N“ he said, an inkling of amusement lingering in the corners of his mouth. The whole descent was painfully slow to begin with and his piercing blue eyes measuring your face didn’t help. „You and Mr. Scott.“ „Is there nothing else you wanna talk about?“ „What? Nearly half a kilometer up in the air? Tied to my beautiful co-worker in the freezing cold? Nah.“ he snickered. Everyone else you’d have head butted into oblivion given the chance and similar circumstances, but you and Vance had spent so much time together stuck in one awkward position or the other working on some absurd problem, you knew your banter was nothing to worry about. You may have hated him at times, but god if there was one person on the Enterprise you could trust, it was that idiot. Which didn’t mean you’d grace him with an answer to his incredulous question though. „Aw, c’mon. You’re the chief engineers girlfriend, ain’t ya?“ „Am not.“ you muttered in return, pursing your lips. „So…“ Vance took a deep breath and snickered. You rolled your eyes as you braced for the inevitable pun. „Did things … cool down between you too?“ You groaned in return. „I’m not gonna answer that, Vance.“ „C’mon. We’ve known each other for what? 5 years?“ You shrugged and counted the meters left to the ground and your pickup point. This was not exactly a matter you wanted to discuss with your co-worker, even if said co-worker happened to be Vance. Mr. Scott was kind and fun and a bullhead for sure. You two matched wits and temperament. But he was your superior and an established work relationship didn’t just change over night. Well. It did. Which was the whole point. You huffed, frustrated and now slightly angry. „Don’t give me that look, Y/N.“, Vance let a few centimeters of your safety rope at a time slip through his fingers, while you reattached the locking hooks. „It’s difficult, okay?“ you muttered once again and hoped your words would get lost in the storm. „It’s not. Only in your head.“ Vance waited for you to reattach the second locking hook. „He’s my boss. He’s our boss, Vance. And he’s a stubborn know-it-all.“ „Oh, I can hardly imagine you two getting along then.“ his chest vibrated with a chuckle you didn’t hear, but feel. „I’m going to kick you, Vance.“ „With your attitude at work, that’s probably a lot of make-up-sex, huh?“ „That’s it“ you growled and jerked your knee upward. Well, it was a honorable try in defense of your general dignity, but being all marshmallow-y it was more of comedic reenactment then a real fight. You swung in your ropes for a moment, Vance rocking with laughter at your feeble attempt in self defense.
„Lieutenant Y/L/N, Lieutenant Scofield! Report to the bridge, have you encountered problems on your way down?“ that was Kirks smooth baritone over the intercom and you wondered how long the bridge had been listening in. Too long probably. That was another thing: the prying of Mr. Scotts fellow commanding officers. Captain Kirks smirking and Doctor McCoy always finding a reason to do your examinations personally. The sly dog. You tried to death glare Vance with little effect and answered for the both of you since he was biting into his glove to contain his laughter. „Everything’s fine, Captain.“ „The wind has picked up by exactly 20m/s for the past five minutes and atmospheric interferences will make a transport back impossible within the next 15 minutes, Lieutenants. I advise you to head back as soon as possible.“ „Right, Sir. We’re already on our way.“ As the wind picked up speed, so did the two of you.
„Three minutes and 15 seconds remaining until the window for transporter activity is shut for the next couple of hours.“ Mr. Spocks sonorous voice pierced the silence on the bridge. The captain was leaning back in his chair, one arm resting comfortably on the console of his captains chair while listening to his vulcan officers assessment.
Bones was standing to his left side, arms crossed in front of him and tapping his foot impatiently on the floor. He did so unconsciously, it was one of his little habits whenever a landing party was confronted with potential problems. Kirk smiled all to himself, cherishing the things he noticed about his crew that others might’ve missed. „3 minutes.“ „We’re on the ground.“ the Lieutenants voice cracked over the intercomm, the signal was getting worse by the minute. Were it not for the miracle work of Mr. Scott - on a normal ship they’d have already been stranded down there until the storm would’ve passed. „We’re approaching the pickup point now.“ Lieutenant Vances voice cut through the bridge now. „2 minutes and 45 seconds.“ the Vulcan said calmly. „Stand by for transport in 30 seconds.“ that was Mr. Scotts voice now, also over the intercom as he insisted on overseeing the transport himself. „Shit.“ Kirks eyebrow quirked ever so slightly and he exchanged a glance with Bones. „We forgot the diagnostics tricorder.“ „Forget it, Lieutenant, we’ll pick it up later. Go to the pickup point.“ „We can’t run diagnostics on the relay without it. I’m gonna fetch it.“ „2 minutes.“ the Vulcan turned around in his seat for a half glance at his captain. „Yer absolutely not, Lieutenant. Get on the pickup point right now.“ Seconds passed in silence. Again. „Mr. Scofield ready for pickup.“ „Y/N get yer feet on there NOW.“ Mr. Scott was fuming. Kirk could practically see him, his fingers flying over the console of the transporter. „One minute.“ „Y/N has reached the relay, Sir. She’s running, Sir.“ „Oh, she better is.“ „Mr. Scott. You will not have time to energize the transporter system a second time. by my calculations …“ „Yes, Mr. Spock, I know.“ Mr. Scotts voice sounded more distant now, as if he’d stepped back from the console. Kirk pushed a button on his chair. „Mr. Scott, report please.“ „I’ll transport Mr. Scofield to the Enterprise.“ „25 seconds remaining.“ Someone said something over the planetary intercomm, but the signal was too mangled to make anything out. „Lieutenant Uhura.“ Kirk stated simply, nodding over to his communications officer. She responded with a curt nod and an „Aye“ and got to work. „I’m planetside, getting my engineer.“ said the voice of Mr. Scott again. „5 seconds.“ And then he energized the transporter signal.
„Well.“ muttered Doctor McCoy, stepping slightly forward. „If their temper isn’t going to trigger a global warming event down there, nothing else will.“
Chekov and Sulu both chuckled at the notion. Kirks lips turned into an amused half smile. „I’ll have a look at Mr. Scofield, Jim.“ he then said and turned his back to the bridge. „Mr. Spock. Please calculate when we’ll be able to transport again. Mrs. Uhura please inform me as soon as you’ve extracted some information from that last transmission.“
„Are you mad?“ you yelled over the howling storm, staring at the chief engineer standing there only in his uniform. „Oh ye really think that’s the right way to start this conversation, lass?“

[TRANS/FANACC] 181110 DMUMT Coex Artium Fansign - Chen Compilation
1. "Before giving me his bunny hat, Jongdae smelled it and said that he washed his hair but it still smells because of the hair products like hairspray, and I said it’s okay and took itㅜㅠㅠㅠㅜ In my mind, I was saying “it’s okay” like 360 million timesㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ" [x] 2. "I didn’t get to give him the certificate of donation, but I told him we were exchanging photos (I should’ve just said photo exhibition…) for his birthday and donated the profit to the [Siheung (his hometown) Youth Counseling Welfare] Center and he said thank you, all of you are cool/amazing 😭 I’m writing this tweet so that every fan of Chen (soondingie) will know that he appreciates (what we did). The rest (of the fanaccount) I won’t write about it…" [x] (t/n: OP is one of Chen's fansite, donating 1 million KRW under his name. Place of donation was chosen after hearing about Chen's recent 20M KRW donation to the center this past September 2018) 3. "Jongdae is so nice. As soon as I got to where he was, he made eye contact and asked, “Which color pen do you want me to use?” 8ㅅ8 He kept making eye contact with me while he was signing 8ㅅ8 I asked him to write his favorite word, a word he thinks is the sweetest, and he wrote thank you 8ㅅ8 I’m thankful for Jongdae’s existence ㅠㅅㅠ" [x] 4. "I asked Jongdae if he named his Airpods, and he said no and asked me to name them but I really couldn't think of anything... I kept going uhh... and just randomly said 초두 and he said it's been a while since he last heard that nickname.." [x] (t/n: 초두 = typo from 1st anniversary fan messages; explanation here) 5. "I told Jongdae I went to the CBX fansign as well, and he was like really, thank you so much for coming again. I asked him if they’re filming an EXO variety show like the one CBX did, and he smiled and replied saying to please wait for it!! When I was getting Jongdae’s autograph, they were rushing me off quickly and I couldn’t say much more, I was already moving when he said please wait for it." [x] 6. "I was wearing a Welsh Corgi hat after getting an autograph, and Jongdae asked what it was and I said Welsh Corgi and he asked to trade ㅠㅠㅠㅠ I got what he was wearing and Jongdae gave mine to Baekhyun so Baekhyun wore my Welsh Corgi hat ㅜㅜㅠㅠㅜㅜ" [x] 7. "Jongdae switched to wearing a bear hat, and he was playing with it when he asked me who he should give this to, and I said Jongin!!! And Jongdae said “Jongin? Because he's a bear? Okay” and traded with Jongin's bunny hat ㅠㅠ" [x] 8. "Thank you Jongdae for playing along with the joke I prepared 😭😇 I told him thank you for singing and he replied “I’m also thankful, I will sing more songs for you guys in the future” and smiled ㅠㅠ Jongdae, I’ll pay my own money to fix the Gocheok roof...!" [x (+ audio)] Audio: F: Jongdae, did you hear? Because of you, there’s been a huge disturbance(?) at Gocheok Dome. JD: Why? F: During Elyxion Dot, the roof got blown away by Jongdae’s high notes, so now every time it rains, they have to cancel the game. JD: Oh no~ they are going to have to do major reconstruction work~ F: I know right. Your singing... (inaudible) 9. "My friend went to the fansign and got Chen’s autograph for me. The security was so strict this time around and didn’t allow them to write someone else’s name, so at first my friend told him his/her name. After that, my friend told Jongdae, “I came here on behalf of my friend, she’s liked you for a very long time. She wrote this letter for you.” After hearing the story, he immediately wrote my name under his autograph. He wrote, study hard and stay healthy. Kim Jongdae, do you know I really like you. I’m crying in the dorm right now. I’m feeling the emotions I’ve felt for the last 6 years." [x] 10. "People who were in front of me all left suddenly and so, as soon as I said thank you~ to Baekhyun, Jongdae who was right next to him, held up two pens and asked, “What color do you like? You can choose the color!” and asked, “Cool, right?” ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I didn’t think he’d ask me a question first, so I was surprised. I asked Jongdae I like your lyrics, do you keep a notebook for writing down lyrics? and he said uh.. noo.. 😮‼️ I was so surprised and asked him, do you just write a quick note whenever (you have inspiration)? and he said I just work on it right before the deadline ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I was like “Omg!! Then how do your lyrics come out to be so nice?!” and apparently, he works on them for hours… usually really late at night 😭 So I told him, don’t do all nighters sleep is important. He said at the end to be careful not to catch a cold in such a sweet voice like honey bread level (of sweetness)." [x (+ audio)] 11. "Jongdae started to say something, OO-ssi (formal), and I asked him can you say OO-ah (informal)? So he said, OO-ie (informal), have you eaten (formal)? And I said no not yetㅠㅠ he was like why haven’t you eaten, you should eat, so I asked him did you eat? And he said he just quickly had a burger before coming here.. EXO, you should have all the delicious foods… filling foods…" [x] 12."Jongdae recognized me (and asked) Are you also coming (to) next week('s fansign)? Ah, you don’t know yet? and wrote this. When I saw what he wrote after coming home, I punched the wall I didn’t even enter (the raffle to get into next week's fansign)" [x] The message he wrote: Let’s see each other again for sure~ ❤️ 13. "I told Jongdae my boyfriend came too, you wanna see? and I showed him a mirror so that it reflected his face. And he made a face like this •́ ﹏ •̀ and said aigoo/oh my~ OO-ssi, you like these kinds of things don’t you,, really cutely ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ I really, that he said OO-ssi was heart fluttering ㅜㅜ Something that made my heart flutter even more ㅜㅜ After I made the joke, I felt embarrassed and since he finished signing, I was going to move on (really, there were so many people waiting behind me..) but he made eye contact with me and told me to be careful not to catch a cold ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄ㅁ⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄" [x] 14. F: Hello JD: (enunciating name clearly) O.O. F: It’s been so long JD: Ah OO, it’s been so long, when~ F: I really really enjoyed Cherry Blossom Love Song~ I was going through a difficult time, and when I listened to your song it helped me relax (he was actively listening/responding the whole time) JD: Yeah~ did it suit me well~? F: Yes~ I’m curious about something, do you still not have pets? JD: No~ F: No? JD: No~ F: There’s something that I’m really curious about, have you ever bought a massage chair? From TV? JD: (his face ㅋㅋㅋ you know the face that he makes (when he’s confused) like hmm? and tilted his head) No? F: Okay then~ ㅋㅋㅋ JD: That was weird hahaha thank you~ [x (+ audio)] (t/n: fans asked because they saw a winner announcement for something probably like an event hosted on a home shopping (informercial) channel that was selling massage chairs, and suspected the winner was JD) 15. F: I asked you to write me something sweet (last time) JD: Really? F: Can you write me something sweet again? JD: What did I write last time? F: "If I said it was love at first sight, would you believe it?" JD: Did I really write that? F: I guess you were feeling hyper (t/n: playful) JD: (writing something down) F: Can you whisper that to me like ASMR style? JD: This? (whispering) OO, you look so pretty today, as usual [x (+ audio)]

This isn't my company, but I found the level of detail and insights helpful. In early 2016, we weren’t planning to start a new SaaS company. Instead, we were focused on growing a successful consulting business. As we set up a website, we knew we needed a reliable lead capture and follow-up process. We wanted it to be easy:A prospect submits a form with their name, email, and details about their company and marketing spendWe get a notification and replyThe conversation is tracked in a way that’s easy for us to manageIt _should_ have been simple. It was anything but.We tried Salesforce. We tried Insightly. We tried SurveyMonkey. We tried Typeform. None of them could be easily setup the way we wanted. Ultimately, we stitched several services together using Zapier and a few other hacks. It worked, but the process of setting it up was frustrating. Why was something so simple in concept so difficult in practice? The Initial Idea for FieldboomOur frustrations got us thinking. If a simple lead capture process was so frustrating for us, it was probably frustrating for other companies, too. If we created a super-simple piece of software that made lead capture and follow-up easy, could that be a viable business? We weren’t sure. We thought it was an idea with potential, but we didn’t want to build a business based on an assumption. Unfortunately, many companies spend months or years building a product before ever thinking about how they’ll make money from it.Instead, we did the work to validate our idea in the market — even as we worked on our MVP. In the process, we found a target market for our product, and we verified that — yes — people would pay real money for it.In what follows, we’ll detail:The exact process we used to validate demand for FieldboomA simple, step-by-step process you can use to validate startup ideas in your workWhy we believe revenue is the _ultimate_ form of validation — and how we got people to pay for our product before it was releasedWe “Scratched Our Own Itch” to Find an IdeaStartup ideas can come from many places (as we’ll discuss later in this post). In the case of Fieldboom, we found our idea by “scratching our own itch.”We paid attention to what happened in our own lives and our own work, and we found a problem — lead capture and follow-up — that caused us a great deal of frustration. If you’re an aspiring entrepreneur, this is a great way to generate startup ideas for a potential business. But you — by yourself — are a sample size of one. We wanted more than just our own opinion before we jumped in and started building a new product. How to Generate Startup Ideas: 4 Proven MethodsBefore we describe the process we used to validate the market for Fieldboom, we should spend a moment talking about startup ideas in general.“Scratch your own itch” isn’t the only way to generate a great idea for your startup. The key to all four of the methods described below?Don’t get fixated on _product_ ideas. Instead, fixate on problems.Method 1: “Scratch Your Own Itch”This is the method we used for Fieldboom. To find problems from your life that could be viable business or product ideas, start a list.Every day for a week, write down the things that frustrate you, aggravate you, or waste your time.If any of those issues seem like a good idea, see if you can quickly validate that others have the same frustration by asking friends, family, or coworkers about their experiences. If one of your problems:Bothers other peopleIsn’t being solved by current products or solutionsIt’s worth investigating further.Method 2: Interview Other PeopleCan’t find a problem worth solving in your own life?Interview people around you. Is there something in _their_ lives that annoys or frustrates them? Friends, family, co-workers… Most people are happy to talk about their problems, especially if you treat them to coffee while you do it.Try to interview more than just one person. Then look for patterns. Is there a problem or problems that come up again and again? Sarah Jones, an entrepreneur we profiled in an earlier article, created Introverted Alpha — a dating coaching program for introverted men — simply by listening to the men in her life.Method 3: Fast-follow Successful BusinessesIs there a product that’s growing like crazy that you can follow to success? For example, there are hundreds of teeth whitening options on the market. From Crest White Strips to treatments at your local dentist, it may look at first like a market worth avoiding. Not for Australian startup HiSmile, however, which saw strong competition as an indicator of the strength of the market — not a reason to avoid it. They used influencer marketing to skyrocket their business to $20M and counting. If you want to fast-follow another company to success, look at where existing users say it’s failing. For Fieldboom, we looked at all the 1 and 2-star reviews for likely competitors on software review sites such as G2Crowd, Capterra, and GetApp.Our analysis gave us a picture of where our competition was strong — and where they had weaknesses. The review above demonstrates some common complaints we heard about SurveyMonkey: zero refunds for disgruntled customers, poor support, and data issues.Reviews can confirm whether the pain point you’re addressing is what others are experiencing.Pro tip: Don’t trust Facebook comments about a brand or a product; you have no idea if those people have actually paid for a company’s product. Instead, look for _paying_ customers with grievances.Method 4: If You Have Customers or an Email List, Survey ThemIf you already have a company or an established email list, your existing customers are a prime resource. Sometimes, asking a good customer, “What do you want?” is all it takes.Invite them to take a short survey that asks questions like:What are your current frustrations? What’s a product or feature you’d love to have? What could we do to improve our product?Be careful not to use the feedback simply to add a dozen features to your existing product, which is how many products become bloated and difficult to use. Instead, use the answers to think about completely new products or business ideas.ConvertKit founder Nathan Barry, for example, has long used surveys to his audience to decide what books and online courses he should create. The Methodical 3-Step Process We Used to Validate Market DemandOnce we had the idea for Fieldboom, we started a methodical 3-step process to validate market demand for the product. We think of validation like building a stack. It starts with personal experience — a single individual’s experience and frustrations, and their idea for a solution. From there, it expands, adding validation from an expanding group of people:Personal friends and acquaintancesMembers of the target marketA small cohort of paying customersCombined, these three “layers” gave us the confidence we needed to move forward as we developed Fieldboom. No matter where your startup idea comes from, this validation process can help you ensure your idea can create the ultimate validation of demand: revenue.Validation Step #1: We Asked Our Network if They Had the Same ProblemIn late 2016, we decided to seriously pursue the idea for Fieldboom. The first step? Checking with people we knew to see if they had similar frustrations with lead capture and follow-up.We talked with them about the consulting business we were running. And how frustrating it was to glue a bunch of clunky solutions together just to create a lead capture process from our website.Sure enough, many of the people we talked to all had the same experience. “That’s just the way it is,” one of them told us. “You have to use Zapier to stitch it all together, then hope it works the way you want.” With that, we had our second level of validation. We weren’t the only ones who were frustrated with lead-capture solutions. For us, this was enough validation that we felt okay about committing a few resources to the project.Specifically, that meant:Developing initial wireframes of a productLaunching a bare-bones website where we could build an audience (and continue validating the market).Content Marketing During the Pre-Launch PhaseWhen we had initial validation of our idea, we moved quickly to start our marketing efforts. We launched our bare-bones website in November 2016 — the same week we started wireframing the initial MVP.Back then, it was essentially just a homepage and a blog. During that first month, we only got 17 site visits. And in December, we had less than 50. By January 2017, we got 1,500 site visits in a month. How?We published interesting, high-quality articles that would be interesting to people doing marketing, then we promoted them in online communities where members of our target audience were likely to hang out.Today, 16 months after launching the website, we’re seeing around 50,000 page views per month. As our traffic climbed, we added a short CTA (call to action) in each post we published. As people signed up for the waiting list, we reached out to some of them to schedule demos before we launched the product (see below for more about what we offered people during these conversations). For everyone else, our content marketing efforts created a list of people we could email when Fieldboom became available — a list that grew to 1,300 people before we launched Fieldboom in March of 2018.Strategy insight: Today, we use the same contextual CTAs in all of our blog posts, except now visitors can immediately sign up for a 15-day trial.Validation Step #2: We Used Surveys to Validate the Idea Beyond Our Personal ConnectionsEven after we started marketing and wireframing, our validation work wasn’t done.At this point, we believed enough in the idea that we were willing to commit a few resources to it. We knew people were paying for similar products (Typeform, SurveyMonkey, Salesforce, etc.). And we had qualitative data from conversations with people we knew personally. What didn’t we have? Quantitative validation. The question we needed to answer was this:Are people willing to pay for this idea?As we discussed in our article about SaaS pre-launch strategy, our next step was to connect with people who we knew were in our target market. Since SurveyMonkey followers were clearly members of our target market, we ran Facebook ads targeting them directly. Some of our ads offered free access to Fieldboom when it launched. Others simply asked for feedback about SurveyMonkey. When someone clicked an ad, they landed on simple Fieldboom form that asked them about their experience.Validation Step #3: We Offered a Demo, Then Tested if People Would Pay for Lifetime AccessThe people who filled out the survey gave us qualitative data about our competition — and continued to build our pre-launch email list. It also gave us another opportunity to reach out to people in our target market and offer a 30-minute demo.Showing them what we were working on was a great way to get feedback on the product before we launched it to the public. The most important reason for the demo, however, was an opportunity for us to offer lifetime access for $200 once Fieldboom launched. Of the people we offered lifetime access to, about 1 in 3 said yes and gave us their credit card immediately.By mid-2017, we had signed up 100 people to our private beta that way. That was when we knew for certain that there was demand for a product like the one we were building. It’s one thing to ask people: “Would you pay for this?” It’s something entirely different to say to them, “Give me your credit card number.”Until someone pays real money for your idea, you’re never quite sure if your idea can work. When 100 people give you their credit card for a product, they’re telling you: “Yes, this idea is valuable. Yes, I will pay money for this.”Why Revenue Is the Ultimate Market Validation for a Startup IdeaYou now have a full process to take you from the initial idea for your startup all the way up to launch. As you work on your MVP and build a pre-launch audience, don’t forget that there’s one question you must answer as soon as possible to see if your idea is viable:Are people willing to pay money for this?If someone is willing to put $50, $100, or $200 on a credit card to reserve a spot for your product, that is better than any survey result or SWOT analysis.Pro tip: When you first ask for people to pay for your product, $50 is a good price, but $5 is not. You have to make it a high enough price that people have to stop and really consider spending the money.Does revenue guarantee long-term success for your startup? It doesn’t. But if one person is willing to pay money for your idea, there’s a good chance others will too. If you can find 20 or 50 or 100 people who are willing to pay money (as we did), that’s a huge positive sign for your future. This article was first published on the Fieldboom Blog with images included.
