Happy Monday! . The alarm going off early on Monday mornings is always the worst sound. . What kind of alarm do use to wake you up? One that plays music or one that beeps a loud, irritating sound? . We use one of our Google Home devices, and it plays a melodic sound that gets louder the longer you let it go on. But when it’s Monday, all alarm sounds are irritating, I think. . Two new SciFy/Fantasy novels are coming out tomorrow- Mike Chen’s Light Years From Home and Kelly Braffet’s The Broken Tower. I have excerpts from each on my blog today (link in bio) and can’t wait to read each ❤️ . . . . #lightyearsfromhome #mikechen #thebrokentower #theunwilling #kellybraffet #htpbooks #scifi #fantasy #scifibooks #scififantasy #fantasybooks #sciencefiction #fantasyworld #scifibooks #epicfantasy #comingsoon #excerpts #excerptsofstories #blogtour #mondaymood #mondayvibes #whatareyoureading #bookrecommendations #newbooks #bookstagram #bookblogger #bookbloggersofinstagram #bookbloggerlife #bookblog #book #bookdragon (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZHYLidrjH7/?utm_medium=tumblr

If you asked me last year what is a genre I don't really read, I would have told you sci fi. I've always loved to watch sci fi movies or shows but when it comes to reading sci fi books, remove always felt to confusing and complicated. This year one of my goals is to read more of my least read genres, which are fantasy and scifi. I want to take myself out if my comfort zone and recapture my love for these genres I once couldn't get enough of. QOTD: What's your least read genre and why? Light Years From Home by Mike Chen out 1/25 was a surprise hit for me. At first, I thought it was going to be too much for me to understand because it started off in outer space but Chen's storytelling quickly captured my attention. The story took on a life of its' own & the characters introduced piqued my interest. I found myself captivated by the backstop of this family & I became invested right away. What I really appreciated was Chen's ability to give just enough scifi elements without it getting too confusing. The story was well developed & once the climax was reached it kicked into high gear. The mind games had me second guessing what I thought was true. Chen's writing really blurred the lines of reality and mental health when the ending began to unfold. Chen also displayed strong writing skills in the ways that he shaped each character and their inner dialogues/dilemmas. Family dramas are my jam and the added space theme was the cherry on top. This story really makes me think about how I would react if a family member disappeared and then returned years later claiming they were taken by aliens and they had a mission to complete. Would I even believe them even though as an Aquarian I'm not from this planet anyway? I could totally relate to the sibling who had to take on the caregiver responsibilities without support. I am so glad I took a chance on this one because it was so good overall. It had the perfect balance between scifi and plot that I needed to get back into the genre. Thanks to @_mira_books_ and @tlcdiversity for the gifted copy. #LightYearsFromHome #MikeChen #scifi #spaceopera #familydrama #bookstagram #bookphotos #books #bookish #bookrecommendation (at Flushing Avenue (BMT Jamaica Line)) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZAyA6frOSV/?utm_medium=tumblr
