Which girls are the holder of the "miraculous" in The Buggettes AU?
Currently undecided. I know there's the concept art that inspired this, which does set up 4/7 leads already (Alix, Chloe, Marinette, and Sabrina), but man, doing Marinette with Ladybug is just so... uninteresting to me.
A big part of it is that they just didn't do a good job in making her and Tikki a good pair, and the other part is that you see it all the time in canon and you see it all the time in fan content.
So if I could, I'd rather go kwami swap.
Sabrina is another issue. I can acknowledge she has potential, the ideas are there, and there's something to her having Dragonfly (which represents a coming change in life); but Sabrina herself is a character I just don't care about. Most of the time, she's just Chloe's eager lackey, and is more an extension of Chloe than a character herself. And the bits you get of her character is just conflicting from being an eager bully in her own right to to set up as just naive but apparently stands for integrity.
I just really don't care for her. I'm not sold on her potential as a lead.
I will say, Chloe getting Bee I don't mind, as Bee really was set up through it's symbolism to be Chloe's absolute foil, covering everything that she lacks or even is. Unfortunately, canon went a route of stinging bees (which feels like it's working off Chloe than challenging her), and Pollen is an eager servant/yes kwami. A very Sabrina inspired personality. Which from my research, Bee should've been more about community and fellowship, which is what Chloe needed covered as she fully prioritized herself.
So Chloe with the Bee and possibly being a lead, I don't mind as much. I'm not invested as I used to be, but I can still roll with it, as that potential in her as a lead and with her redemption is still there. And between the attention she does get and Lila as the potential antagonist for the civilian side, yeah, might as well do Chloe better. Especially as Marinette didn't need two antagonistic girls to face who do function similarly. The better way to do it is change who they clash against, be it Lila v Alya and Chloe v Marinette, or have one of them clash against Adrien, and there's something to be done on Alya v Chloe as those two can be very similar, especially how they treat their friends.
I will say though, Chloe is not a must have as a lead for me, nor does she have to have the Bee.
As for Alix with Grasshopper, I'll have to think on it. Given her ties to serpents in her design, I would've thought Dragonfly initially, but really not opposed to Grasshopper. It may come down to what I do power wise, as that I'm still pondering. Especially as some can have similar power ideas (like Grasshopper it can make sense to have teleportation, leap of faith and all that; but Firefly could also have teleportation, just blink teleportation; Dragonfly I thought of super speed, but that could also go to Firefly to play off lightspeed).
But Alix I wouldn't mind as a potential lead, I do remember back in s1 she was the classmate that stood out to me the most. I know she gets more aggravating later, but that's more adult Alix and she can be nonexistent.
As for anyone else, I'll have to see as there's a lot to think about and consider.
I've done edits on all 7 bugs using Tikki's base concept art, and currently working on writing out their personalities and preferences and views. Powers I also still need to figure out and decide on; also, should Gabriel really have the Spider or should he still have the Butterfly? Should this au really start with all 7 leads or should they come gradually? Should the Bugettes be all girls? Should I include a guy or two?
I'm also planning on having these bugs (and arachnids) known as fairies to work off the older concept, which can give me some flexibility if I want to bring in kwamis, who can stay as China's magical beings (though could have Prodigious instead), and these fairies could be Europe's.
So quite a bit to think about, but yeah this au I wouldn't mind doing sometime. I think it could be a fun set up.

*∞
i. the limit: some infinities are bigger than the other…
Determining the Slope:
I rack my brain until I focus in on one instant of time that distilled the peak of happiness between us. I subtract me from the equation and am left with only *u. Naturally, I take out a piece of paper and compose the instant into a poem.
Conceptualizing How Small Infinity Can Be: I fold the paper continually, constantly, evenly, until I cannot fold it any further. I realize, conceptually, that I could continue to fold it, but it’s too dense for my lady fingers, still, it’s lost no value, it’s lost no mass. I finally grasp infinity in the palm of my hand. I finally have conceptualized how small something so endless is truly. I no longer feel burdened by the pain of losing you, and dwell in the blessing of the memory in perfect peace. Expressing the Derivative Function:
Guilty. I went off on another tangent, didn’t I? Trying to create a harmonic frequency between us. Attempting to unionize algebra and geometry; discovering calculus. ( – us ) It clicks. It took only the crack of a heartbreak. Although, from within the confines of our 4-D spacetime it sounded more like a big bang. It wasn’t quite so dramatic from the vantage of a higher plane. My guts, thoughts, and inner-workings spilled outward and in every direction — hot with grief but cooling quick— the seemingly un-seen ingredients congealing into spherical structures and gaseous masses. I step back from this new universe, wipe the salt from my bleary eyes, see clearly and declare, “It is good.” Glad to finally understand what I was made of. Even if I had to be dis-integrated, first. Isolating the Integral: I had a thirst for knowledge; crafted water. A little bit of hydrogen, some oxygen, atoms, bosons, and quarks in all their flavors squeezed together into a swirling tonic fluere. I take a sip and remember being human. How strange. How lovely. I fashion a lime, —slice— my drink becomes complete.
I recall the slope of your throat and calculate it inch by inch forever. May the limits of a frail female heart never condense *u into something finite in her fever. May *u flow forward in infinite flux, avoiding every event horizon, transcending lightspeed, and all that matters, in every direction you choose to fly in. ii… . . .

Relationship Headcanons in the Ark and Nemesis and more + Humanformers Headcanons
(They are all from Cybertron still and they live for a long time.)
Arcee, Frenzy, and Nova Storm are trans females, Exhaust, Rewind, Tailgate and Sandstorm are trans men.
Lady Silverbolt, Knockout, Ratchet, Jazz, Blaster, Eject, Rodimus, Bumblebee, Mirage, First Aid, Streetwise, Sideswipe, Cosmos, Dead End, and DragStrip
Ratchet is a tired mom to everyone sighing heavily as she drinks her energy coffee. She in particular fond of First Aid, Velocity, and Minerva (her medical students) and Silverbolt (the air commander and new tired mom to a bunch guys: Fireflight, Air Raid, Skydive, Tracks, Powerglide... While oblivious to Slingshot’s feelings for her.).
Grapple and Hoist are equilivent of Tired Uncle and Fun Uncles to the factions.
Greenlight and Arcee are the matchmaking Aunties. Though. Greenlight is younger than most of her colleagues but counts.
Tracks, Powerglide, Seaspray, and Crankcase each had a chaotic adventure that resulted them finding love with different species.
Raoul basically gave Tracks a tour around New York City, at night, where the fun shows and Tracks immediately fell in love.
Astoria went on a wacky adventure with Powerglide when the Combaticons chased them around her birthday.
Seaspray fell in love with a mermaid, Alana and it's adorable.
And Crankcase punched Shockwave in the face for trying to experiment on Cons4Eva.
Rewind, Tailgate, and Swerve are best friends and discuss their chaotic love life together. How Tailgate and Swerve fell in live with a Decepticon while Rewind has a bad taste in mechs.
Eject, Frenzy, and Rosanna have girl nights out and have their own fun. Rumble chaperones relunctly.
Tracks, Sunstreaker, Blurr, and Mirage (Knockout, Drag Strip, and Starscream) are adamant on keeping their good appearances and always get a little nasty and snappy if they come back on a mission looking... Messed up.
Lightspeed and Lightbright are BEST FRIENDS. Lightbright loves teasing him about his crush on Afterburner while he supports her relationship with Sparkstalker.
Starscream fell in love with Windblade at first sight. They met before the full war broke out when he, Megatron, Soundwave, Tarn, Skywarp, and Thundercracker visit Caminus to discuss with her and Lightbright’s adopted creators to let them integrate the girls in their noble cause. It was at dinner and during that time, the two were making eyes at each other but after she and Lightbright went to bed, Windblade went down for more energon only do freeze as she overhead a ‘malice discussion’ between Megatron and his men. The rose tinted glasses fell off her face and she immediately told Lightbright, the two were then ushered out by their carrier to make an escape.
Lightbright teases Windblade about Starscream and Starscream gets teases about Windblade by Skywarp and Thindercracker.
Both older siblings get revenge when Lightbright falls for Sparkstalker, Thundercracker catches feelings for Marissa, and Skywarp has something going on with Frenzy.
Sandstorm and Octane grew up together and they two mechs always knew they were IT for each other... But as the war broke out, Octane thinks Sandstorm can do better than him. He was a coward and trouble always found it's way to him.
Sandstorm tells him, that he only loves him. That Octane always done his best to protect him and let's him know when danger was on it's way, giving Sandstorm time to warn his faction on time as Octane unknowingly risked his life for Sandstorm countless times as he only focused on Sandstorm saving him.
First Aid and Streetwise are chaotic roommates.
Ratchet and Knockout both use to work in the same ER at one point, prior to the war. Knockout was the gorgeous doctor that everyone has their eyes for while Ratchet was quite the looker too... She was Dr. Pharma’s favourite. She can't say the same about him though despite he WAS a good doctor.
Knockout met the love of her life: Breakdown in the ER as he came in with a broken arm and immediately he shyly blushed and was so respectful. He had his charms that immediately caught her attention and he listened to every word she said and complimented her respectfully... She fell in love hard.
Mirage grew up in high society and was tired of mechs like her sire and his political/high society friends ruled over and how her sire controlled her life... It was no surprise when she rebelled and ran off to join the war. Good thing she kept her Outlier abilities secret like her dear carrier suggested.
She admired Hound. Seeing how Hound seemed so free, rock climbing, hiking, laughing beautifully in genuine happiness... Primus, she wanted to be like Hound... Though, she excuse the mud.
Jazz and Blaster are beautiful singing sirens that captive everyone. The two girls are simply beautiful and Jazz was once singers at local bars with various admires. Prowl frequented one of them to see Jazz, captivated by her voice, her beauty, her sizzling and sensual movements, the alluring look she gave him... Or he hoped she was looking at him.
His pet ‘bird’ Green loves her too, always landing on her hand or forearm and seeing her tend to his let with so much care and gentleness, Prowl wound up daydreaming a life with her even more.
Blaster pursued a career in reporting, always getting stuck in weird situation with Cosmos, that's how she met Soundwave after he saved her when she put her nose in the wrong place and at the wrong time.
Soundwave mused, seeing this lost and sharp tongued journalist full of sass and charm. Getting her run her mouth as she thanked him and went on and on, noting how smooth her movements were and how her hips turned... She snapped her fingers at him and asked with a cheeky grin ‘if there was something he liked looking at’... First time he caught himself tongue tied after getting caught.
Their cats, Steeljaw and Ravage seemed to have a certain rivalry going on.
Sideswipe is the younger twin sister to Sunstreaker, mischievous and full of fun. Often dragging Bumblebee, Rodimus, Lightbright, and sometimes Windblade for the fun of it. Sunstreaker realizes that he went to war and got a few extra sisters that he is stuck with forevermore. Not that he was complaining as he would kill anyone who harmed them.
Sideswipe and Sunstreaker both grew up to a hardworking but loving sire with a repair shop. Their beloved carrier, a sweet and lovely femme, past at their birth. Sideswipe took the appearance of her carrier while Sunstreaker was very much his sire’s mechling in appearances.
Rodimus is usually recklessly finding adventures outside of base to which Ultra Magnus is adamant she stays put where she is safe... Ultimately going after her and the two get wound up in a crazy adventure.
Greenlight, Perceptor, Nautica, Glyph, Lancer, and Skyfire always know when something bad happened in the lab... Kind of hard to miss since Brainstorm and Wheeljack were openly discussing excitedly on their new experiment in front of them and ask of any of them would like to join them... Hard pass. They sigh heavily with crossed arms or hands on their hips as they walk in to see both of them groaning face first on the floor or dangling upside down on a chair with the lab completely in near ruins AGAIN... Ratchet is never pleased whenever her ex conjunx and his science buddy comes into the medical bay AGAIN but oh well.
Smokescreen and Bluestreak teases Prowl so much about him and Jazz, playfully nudging him. Smokescreen jokingly saying if Prowl didn't take his chance he might so, earning a nasty glare from Prowl. The trio unaware that Jazz heard everything nearby, finally making herself known as she hunters past with a cheeky and coy smile she tossed over her shoulder with the same alluring look to Prowl. Prowl swallowed hard and immediately went after her, while leaving Smokes and Blue feeling hot and jealous.
Inferno and Hot Spot worked together in the same Fire Department. Along with Firestar, Flare Up, and briefly Red Alert.
Inferno often playfully teases Red Alert, making him go red as he tried his best to glare and snap at her but she only laughs whole heartedly and slides off. Seeing that flicker of amusement and fondness, Red Alert always hope she would be back.
Fort Max and Cerebros (his best friends) LOVE teasing him for it. Red Alert and Cerebros had a flirtation but that stopped when Cerebros and Fort Max got together.
Red Alert and Prowl HATE each other. Doesn't help their offices are right across from each other.
Red Alert and Smokescreen never really speak to each other, but Smokescreen was once in love with Inferno, who was unaware.
Bluestreak had a crush on Hound.
Bumblebee is now the baby sister of both sides. Hot Shot and Rumble are the baby brothers.
When Starscream isn't commanding his seekers or going head to head with Megatron, he goes into the lab to do science with Sparkstalker and Bitstream, sometime Sky Byte. One of the few times he can relax and enjoy himself.
Knockout has energon coffee breaks with Moonheart and Glit, the trio becoming great friends as time past on. Spinister and Slipstream sometimes join them.
Knockout and Thunderblast DON’T get along. Nor does she or LunaClub do.
Knockout and Trickdiamond get on easily.
Breakdown and Dead End do feel out of place with the Stunticons, especially when Drag Strip and Wildrider make it hard to work in teams. Breakdown and Knockout share a room as a couple so thankfully he doesn't deal too much with them anymore.
Dead End gets a arrangement to work with the Combaticons and gradually accepts it as to get away from the rest of the Stunticons. (beside Breakdown as they keep in touch)
Moonheart gets heartbroken when she found out about Soundwave and Blaster immediately backed off. Sound wave never knew about her feelings and she wasn't going to embarrass herself... She was found by Blitstream, who sat by her to give her as much comfort as he can.
Lunaclub was SHATTERED when she realized Starscream and Windblade and asks Trickdiamond and Lunaclub “WAS I REALLY THAT STUPID!?” because it was right in front of her the entire time.
Hot Spot has his charm that penchant many ladies... But he doesn't swing that way. Sorry. People did thought that he had feelings for Silverbolt or Inferno but that wasn't the case.
Cliffjumper and Arcee are best friends and he teases her about the beautiful Greenlight.
Arcee and Greenlight unofficially adopted Tailgate as their son and made sure Cyclonus know that he should treat their baby boy well.
Chromia and Ironhide unofficially are Windblade and Lightbright’s parents and made it hard for Starscream and Sparkstalker for getting their blessings.
Greenlight, Lightbright, Windblade, Alana, and First Aid read romance novels and discuss with each other... They share with some of the rest of the ladies and their friends. Sandstorm enjoys them as well as he thinks about Octane.
First Aid likes to read sexy and spicy stuff~
Octane, Swindle, and Trickdiamond are always willing to cause a fun hassle and schemes. Exhaust and Loudpedal often join them as the guys are always in for some extra fun.
Mirage and Sideswipe are friends but Mirage and Sunstreaker CAN’T stand each other.
Blurr has a HORRIBLE love life. Rodimus always finds herself patting Blurr on the back soothingly. If not her, Springer takes over. Blurr simply had a bad taste in mechs or all the wonderful femmes are taken.
Perceptor had a crush on Drift at one point but was left one sided as Drift had eyes for Ratchet alone. She never realized Brainstorm’s feelings as anything romantic until further down the line.
Perceptor 🤝 Silverbolt: OBLIVIOUS to MECHS aka THE LOVE OF THEIR LIFE WHO HAVE FEELINGS FOR THEM (Brainstorm and Slingshot)
Pharma HATES Drift. What DID Ratchet SEE in this GUTTER RAT!?
Bluestreak grew feelings for Jazz too, but Jazz only had eyes for Prowl and Prowl only has her spark alone. It did cost a rift between Prowl and Bluestreak for a while.
Ratchet and Wheeljack are amiable exes and root for each other in their love lives and who they give their romantic sparks to. They had adopted dinobots together, who impronted on them as their parents. Drift cool with it as he and Wheeljack are buds and Ratchet sighs heavily with a tired smile.
Lancer and Arcee hate each other but do look out for each other. Lancer because she still cares for Greenlight and knows how much she loves Arcee. Arcee because though Lancer is the one who hurt Greenlight by breaking her heart, Greenlight forgave Lancer and would be devastated if THEY BOTH did.
Mirage, Blurr, and Tracks talk about fashion... Eventually letting Sunstreaker join them. Blurr is the only one who is friends with him.
Beachcomber, Seaspray, and Hound go on nature expetitions together, the trio nerd out together and later Skids and Alana join them too.
There is nothing romantic between Lancer and Greenlight anymore, strictly workplace relationship that turned into an respectful friendship of sorts. Greenlight’s eyes and spark is only for Arcee and Arcee alone.
Arcee and Chromia trained Road Rage and Tap Out. They tease them about their respective relationship with Nautica and Glyph.
Greenlight, Velocity, and Nautica are best friends who drink together, teasing about each other’s love lives.
Flare Up and Warpath enjoy sparring together~. Poor Beachcomber walked in several occasions that left him flustered.
Vortex and Brawl tease Blast Off about Cosmos, acting like annoying older brothers to him.
WheelJack is friends with Dot and Alex Malto and he is the cool uncle to their seven children.
Sleeping Titans’ conscious take forms within animals. Lodestar takes the form as wolf-dog that follows Lightbright everywhere and if not her, then Windblade or Hot Shot. Then eventually Lightspeed and Sparkstalker.
The Dweller had lured Windblade to possess her and Starscream had to save her as the Titan was looking for any vulnerable City Speaker to capture.
Sunstreaker has this weird… Thing… named Bob that he sort of adopted.
Thundercracker truly fell in love with Marissa when she gifted him Buster.
Kup is adopting all these children as his grandchildren.
Optimus is adopting them as their father.
Lightbright went into war with one sister (Windblade) came out with her sister, three more sisters (Sideswipe, Bumblebee, Rodimus) and three new brother (Sunstreaker, Thundercracker, Skywarp)
Megatron... He is simply going to support them in his way.
Ironhide, Optimus, Wheeljack, and Kup walked some of these mechs and femmes down the altar.
Starscream and Soundwave did the same for their faction.

First RPG bought this year?
Honestly, I'm not certain, so I'll go with the one I can remember and that's A Nocturne.
The setting is a future in space, civilisations separated by the tyranny of lightspeed amid a void of the alien and incomprehensible. You play as the crew of a starship travelling said void, visiting planets and stations to trade or otherwise acquire the vital elements to keep on space-trucking while pursuing whatever individual goals you may have while witnessing (possibly causing) the changes in said civilisations. While not the only influence, if you like Reynold's Revelation Space series you'll be right at home.
The rules are based on Blades in the Dark with a few modifications. The addition of a Scale mechanic allows for the integration of vehicles and effects that impact populations. Chaos replaces Heat as a measure of your impact on the places you visit. The major change is that Stress doesn't just get blown off when your character indulges their Vice. Instead, you externalise your Stress into your ship.
Your ship has a Stress track (a long one) and can take Traumas. It likely will. The secret is that you can repair the damage you do through Long Term Projects. Of course these take time and resources, which means more hustles and schemes, likely more stress, etc.
There's a couple of little bits I'd probably fiddle with - I'm not sold on the healing rules for one thing, and the idea of generating a cluster of systems in a 3d map to figure out the travel times seems like needless complication. However that's the kind of thing your table can decide for themselves. I'd like to give it a go at some point, certainly.

give me a minute to hold my girl
Volya and Poe struggle to find time alone without getting interrupted, and Volya tries to make sense of her blossoming feelings for her new boyfriend.
Word Count: 2.4k whoopsie
Warnings: a lot of fluff, first kisses (!), and vague references to a mission going poorly in the past. Rewrite of a scene I wrote a couple years ago.
The combination of Volya’s sense of direction (or lack thereof) and the way her mind kept racing between topics faster than lightspeed, meant that trying to find Leia’s office was proving exceedingly difficult, and she was looking less and less forward to the General realizing how tardy she could be.
But she'd start thinking about one thing — I said that I love Poe, does that mean I’m in love with him? — and then wind up in a dead end corridor, too distracted to pay attention to where she was going — or she’d start thinking about the Enshado and Malarus, and then she’d end up in an empty briefing room and it just snowballed from there, but all of her thoughts seemed to circle back to one starfighter pilot that’d quickly become an integral part of Volya’s life, who stirred up too many feelings for her to make sense of.
She knew that she loved him, knew that he was her best friend, knew that she looked forward to seeing him, that she’d desperately wanted him to kiss her on the two occasions he’d asked, before they’d been interrupted by Statura and later Threepio, because there was never time enough in the Resistance, not when Poe had as many duties as he did, and not when Volya was still trying to get back on her feet after the disaster that had been their last mission —
Caught up in her musings, and the private sense of triumph that this was finally the right path because that was definitely the General’s office, Volya didn’t notice when a door burst open on her right. What she did notice was the hand that shot out from within, because it wrapped around her elbow in a gentle yet firm grip, and hauled her inside.
A startled yelp fell from Volya’s lips as she staggered into the darkened room, tripping over her own feet at the abrupt change in direction, and colliding into the broad chest of her assailant. Just before the door slammed shut behind them, leaving them utterly in darkness, Volya caught a glimpse of inky black curls, twinkling brown eyes, a self-satisfied smile, and a familiar brown fighter jacket.
“Hey, Gorgeous.”
The term of endearment combined with the fact that her hands were still on Poe’s chest from where she’d fallen, and his on her waist where he’d steadied her, brought a rush of warmth to her cheeks that Volya hoped the darkness would cover. She swallowed, looking around Poe to try and figure out where they were: it took her eyes a minute to adjust to the lack of light, but she was able to make out an empty metal rack (probably meant to hold supplies) and that there were a bunch of crates shoved around them, leaving only one corner of the cramped closet properly open, which was where she and Poe were standing.
“Why are you hiding in a closet?” Volya asked, turning to face him again. To her dismay, even without a light source, Poe was still infuriatingly beautiful with his nearly boyish expression of enthusiasm, framed by soft, dark curls.
“Oh, there’s so many jokes I could go with for that one,” Poe laughed.
Volya rolled her eyes, not bothering to hide her exasperation, and reminded him sternly, “Your message said to meet you at Leia’s office, and the last I checked, the General didn’t operate out of a supply closet, so I ask again, why are we standing in one?”
“Ah, well…” Poe said, looking up at the ceiling and then around at the tiny cramped room before back at her, his grin turning sheepish. “I figured there’s at least a 75% chance Threepio and Statura won’t find us here.”
Volya’s breath caught briefly in the back of her throat, but she shook her head, a somewhat dry scoff escaping her lips. “You can’t be that eager to kiss me, so what is it really? Is something wrong, am I in trouble or something?” Maybe he’d pulled her in here to let her down gently, maybe Leia had decided to ground her or take her off the squadron or —
Poe’s smile faded instantly at the skepticism in Volya’s voice, his brow furrowing — very nearly started to tell her that, yes, he was that eager to kiss her, but instead asked, “Why would you be in trouble?”
Truthfully, Volya had no idea what she could have done, but she could think of at least one thing that could get her reprimanded: “For a start, I might be late to an important meeting with the General because my Commander decided to drag me into a closet.”
“For privacy purposes only!” Poe exclaimed. Then, moving closer to her and raising an eyebrow, “Unless you want us to get interrupted again.”
“I very much do not want that,” Volya agreed, poking Poe lightly in the chest. As much as Poe was trying to play this off by flirting with her, she could tell something was genuinely weighing on his mind, felt the heaviness of it in his Force Signature. “But I also know something’s up, so what is it, Poe?”
“You heard that Leia wants me to go to that Senatorial meeting with her, right?”
“I think I distinctly remember Threepio mentioning something about one this morning, yes,” Volya replied, thinking of how the protocol droid had turned up at the firing range to remind Poe of his meeting with Leia, and her own embarrassment over having been caught about to kiss Poe by one of Leia’s most trusted advisors and closest friends.
Poe picked up one of her hands, spanning his palm around her wrist, before sliding it up to curl her fingers into a fist, lightly brushing his thumb over her knuckles once before pressing a little more firmly against her skin. “As it turns out, I’ve got room for one more on my invitation,” he began slowly, searching her expression carefully for any signs of hesitation. When he found none, he gave her a crooked grin. “I was kind of hoping you’d come with me.”
Volya bit her bottom lip as a smile lit up her face, “You dragged me into a supply closet so you could ask me on a date?”
Poe hesitated for a second before trying to defend himself: “It was this or ask you out on a date in front of Leia. Out of the two, this seemed like the more reasonable option.”
Volya dissolved into giggles and dropped her forehead against his chest. Poe didn’t drop her hand, just held it between their chests. Maker, he was - he was so fucking ridiculous, it wasn’t even funny how endearing she found him. Once her laughter subsided enough for her to speak again, Volya managed to get out, “It was definitely not the most reasonable option listed, but it was the most…you option that you could’ve thought of.”
Poe shrugged, “I live to entertain. So…what do you say?” He tried not to sound nervous, but he figured he’d failed at it.
Volya looked up at him and his heart stuttered in his chest at the adoration he found in her eyes - it was the same awestruck expression he’d found on her face when she’d seen the stars for the first time in an unpolluted sky. The fact that she could look at him like that made something warm stir in his chest - and when she spoke, her voice was low and soft, “There’s nowhere I wouldn’t go with you.”
It never failed to knock him off course when Volya said things like that, because she always said them readily, like the words she strung together with precise intention were simply facts and not promises that always left him spinning out in disbelief — and of course, even when it was imperative that he tell her the same, Poe could never find the words.
His gaze slipped from her wide brown eyes and down to her lips. She was biting down nervously on her bottom lip — much too hard, if the way it was whitening was any indicator. Without thinking, Poe brought his other hand up between them to brush his thumb at her bottom lip and whispered, “You’ll hurt yourself.”
It worked, sort of, because Volya’s teeth disappeared as her breath hitched slightly at his touch. Realizing what he’d done, Poe drew back, feeling electrified, and started to apologize when Volya shifted on the balls of her feet, trying to match her height to his a little better. “Third time’s the charm, right?”
She was echoing his words from this morning, after she’d almost kissed him on the firing range, and suddenly Poe found the answer he needed: if he couldn’t find the words to tell her, he could show her, if she wanted.
Praying that no one in high command would somehow sense what he was about to do and interfere again, Poe moved cautiously as he closed the gap between them. He released her hand, still caught between their chests, and let his palm slide up her bare arm up to her shoulder, then to the back of her neck — careful to avoid brushing her lekku — and then lifted his other hand up to press the pads of his fingers to the edge of her jawline, tipping her head back slightly into the cup of his hand at the base of her neck, to properly look her in the eyes. “This okay?”
Volya nodded slightly, overwhelmed by his gentle touches and by the promise of what would happen next. She couldn’t stop drinking in the expression on his face as he looked at her, not missing the way his gaze kept dropping back to her lips and back up again — the sight of it was making butterflies erupt low in her belly.
“I’ve never kissed anyone before,” Volya admitted quietly, a thread of nerves in her voice: she didn't want him to be disappointed.
Poe barely seemed to consider this — then again, he did know he was her first in the romance department, so perhaps he’d already assumed as such — and gave her a winning smile as he replied, “That’s okay. I’ve never kissed a Jedi before.”
Volya smiled again as his hand slid down from her neck down her back, warm and expansive as he drew her up into his personal space, slowly dipping down to meet her in the middle. He paused as their noses brushed, searched for any last second hesitation in Volya’s eyes, and when he found none, pressed his lips tentatively against hers in a quick brush to test the waters — wanting to give Volya a chance to figure out if this was enough for now, or if she wanted more.
He pulled back a fraction of an inch, watched her as she studied his face with the same intensity she had when she'd first familiarized herself with the controls of her X-Wing, and then she pushed herself back up on her tiptoes, cradling his cheek and kissing him again, and Poe fell back into her orbit without complaint.
Volya didn’t immediately close her eyes, but Poe did. His eyelashes were long and dark, brushing against the tip of his cheekbones; his brow was scrunched up in soft concentration as he lost himself in the kiss, his mouth moving soft and warm against her own. Her eyes finally fluttered shut as one of his hands ended up on her waist, twisted in the fabric of her tunic, and Volya found herself wishing there wasn’t any barrier between them, wanting his skin on hers.
She sighed at the thought and slid her hand up to the back of his head, plunging her fingers into his curls, delighted by the fact that his hair was every bit as soft as it looked, silky strands tangling between her digits. Poe hummed appreciatively against her mouth, taking a slight step forward to kiss her more soundly, Volya’s back gently hitting the wall, until all she knew was Poe’s frame caging her in, keeping her safe as he continued to kiss her in a way that had her weak at the knees.
When they finally pulled away for air, he kept his face pressed against hers, still holding onto her, the only sounds in the room being their laboured breathing and the faint sounds filtering in from the rest of the base, which might as well have been in an entirely different universe for all Volya cared right now, because hers was centered entirely on the man in front of her, with flushed cheeks and swollen lips and hair ruffled from where she’d messed it up.
Eventually, Poe asked, “So…did I make it a good one?”
Volya huffed a small laugh, then muffled it by pressing her lips together so she could pretend that she had to mull it over. She didn’t make him wait long, though, and dropped one hand to his chest. “Yeah, you did. It was wonderful, especially since we didn’t get interrupted by anyone. Just one complaint, though.”
“What’s that?”
Volya leaned in, quickly kissing him again, brushing her thumb across his cheek. “You stopped.”
Poe laughed, bumping their noses together. “Trust me, I don’t want to. But I am actually supposed to bring you to Leia’s office so you can talk about the meeting.”
“Guess you’ll just have to make up for it later, flyboy,” Volya said, brushing past him to open the door and step out -
Poe’s hand shot out, catching her gently by the wrist, stopping her in her tracks. When she looked back at him, he seemed hesitant, trying to parse his thoughts together. Finally, he said, “There’s nowhere I’d go without you, too. And if I ever have to, if I ever have to leave you for anything — I’ll come back. I promise.”
Volya sucked in a breath, “I know.”
Poe grinned then, a bright and dazzling thing that she wished she could bottle and keep in her memory forever, and then he stepped forward and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “C’mon, let’s get you to the General. If she asks, just blame me.”
“Oh, I will,” Volya assured him, stepping out of the supply closet, Poe following closely at her heels as they made the rest of the trip to Leia’s office. After a few seconds of silence, Volya giggled despite herself.
“What is it?” Poe asked, and she could hear the smile in his voice.
“Just thinking about how embarrassing it would’ve been for both of us if we’d been caught climbing out of the supply closet.”
Poe stuttered out a wheeze behind her, and Volya shot him another grin over her shoulder, her heart doing a funny kind of pang at the sight of him. She thought again of her earlier realization, and decided even if she wasn’t sure if she was in love with him, she certainly loved him, and that was enough for now.

Hi Frank, my spaceship, the Tera, has been fired upon by a Federation fleet. Our shields are at 35% and our torpedoes and phaser rounds have only taken out two ships. If we flee into warp space, we might be able to land on a relatively new planetoid. Do you have any quick advice for making our escape? Thanks
There is a lot I could say about this sort of thing, and the situation you are in is not very different from that of the character I called "Ships McSniper" who finds himself in my third book, but here I'll just say: do it slowly!
First things first: you need to decide how much of your ships resources you can spare. If you have the capability for warp, run. If you only have enough power to get you to lightspeed -- with all the power you'll lose -- make the journey as long as you can. In either case, you must do this before you can possibly turn the battle around.
Then you have to figure out whether your weapons are even worth salvaging. You may not be able to salvage much from the Goddess's weapons system, but maybe you can salvage phasers from the Cave of Rhetoric. But if you could get phasers back, why did you let the Federation use them in the first place? And why were you even willing to fight at all, rather than just turning and running?
If you know your power is not going to be enough to stop or reverse a Federation invasion fleet, then you should turn your attention back to the rest of the ship's systems and try to make repairs in a reasonable amount of time, given that they are not that badly damaged. Try to re-fit the generators, if you can -- it might be helpful to have a human mechanic. Try to get more power online so you can run faster. See if you can improve sensor sensitivity or weapons reliability. See what you can do about the Cave of Rhetoric's weapons array, which is now a single point of failure. If you can't fix the weapons array, try to do something about the Tera's hull integrity, since you can't afford to lose that much in a sustained engagement. Even if you know you can only save one or two of your three phaser emitters, get them online as soon as possible so you don't have to spend the whole engagement running around to them, and maybe salvage some good from their shields. Also, see what you can salvage from the Goddess's power plant, power grids, and life support systems.
While we're on the subject of power plants, I should tell you what the Cave of Rhetoric's power grid looked like in my story. I was going to give it a more "realistic" appearance, but then I realized this would make sense of my character's powerplant, which is the only functional one on the ship, so it looked like this:
This power plant, the only one on the ship that's able to generate and transmit power, is now very low on juice. To make matters worse, I decided to have the Tera use a different, low-power propulsion system than the Goddess, which means it is now operating on one of its last three power cells, which are being recharged by a second reactor which I have not described, located below a long elevator shaft. If the power plant is out, there will be no way to get back to normal speed, no matter how many phasers and torpedoes you load on the Tera.
Another major problem: the Federation fleet is almost certainly going to find you sooner or later. You're already lost in space: it won't take very much for them to find you. You're going to be forced to defend yourself, and you have to be ready. Because, again, you only have so much power, and now the Federation fleet is so much bigger and has more weapons and is on the attack: you're probably not going to win unless you can turn the tables and destroy enough Federation ships to win the battle, without giving up too much resources, while also doing your best to save the crew.
I am not sure what you have done with the Tera's phaser weapons in the aftermath of the war. I imagine that you have, like me, decided they are useless and salvaged nothing from them except the phasers themselves. That's fine, but it means you won't be very effective at defending against the Federation ships that are going to arrive. You still may have to be, or the Federation will have no trouble tracking you down if they find you.
You have two very powerful but very difficult-to-use weapons to try and defend yourself with: the energy-beam weapons you have left from before the war, and the energy-beam weapons you have left after the war. The Goddess' weapons systems have been crippled, and the Tera's phasers appear to be broken. You could probably use both of these weapons if you could make yourself get close enough to them. But you may not have much power left to power either one; even if you have enough power to run, you'll have to use it to repair the damage done by the Cave of Rhetoric to the Tera. In any case, trying to use both weapons would be a terrible use of resources, so you might want to hold off on that.
On top of all this, there are some other issues that you may not be able to ignore. You don't have any good way of getting back to the habitable planet in orbit around which the Tera is. You are not going to be able to send out any distress signals, because of the interference from the war. If you really have to make a run for it, it would be better to go to lightspeed as quickly as possible and run on low power, so you could take the ship as far as it will go. Once it's gone, you'll have to be rescued or die of cold, but the cold won't be as bad as the freezing of your ship. It's not quite "The Cold Equations," because you're just a bit too far away from the sun
