Lightning Arresters are the new lifeline of today’s world owing to the unprecedented thunderbolts and lightning taking place across the world now and then. It’s not that Lightning didn’t happen in earlier days, but nowadays, the frequency and the intensity of lightning strikes have grown exponentially to draw immediate attention and install prompt lightning protection systems to save oneself and one’s property from the menace of lightning strikes.
The climatic changes and global warming have made it mandatory for us to safeguard ourselves and our property from uncontrolled natural calamities, which we cannot control but can only safeguard ourselves in one way or another.
Tumblr media
Conventional Lightning Arresters:
Conventional lightning arresters are solid rods or hollow pipes with a pointed top or 4–5 spikes on the top to make the lightning strike in its near vicinity fall over it rather than somewhere else. These Lightning Arresters are connected to the ground earthing with down conductors to immediately ground the lightning current into the earth without allowing it to do any damage in the surroundings. In this way, lives, structures, and other objects which come under the protective cover of the lightning arrester, stay safe from the lightning strikes.
Conventional lightning arresters are commonly available as Copper Lightning Arresters or Aluminum Lightning Arresters.
Tumblr media
ESE Lightning Arresters are modern Lightning arresters that have a wide area of protection coverage from 35 mtrs to 107 mtrs of the radius of their installation. These ESE lightning arresters are the most commonly used lightning protection system nowadays.

Obsessed with Jay fully knowing he has lightning powers, but tucking that shit so far back down it's right next to where he keeps all his insecurities. By which I mean I know damn well he is SO bad at hiding his element. The toaster in the break room is on the fritz and he goes over to fix it and winds up sparking it back to life on accident. Someone bursts into his office when he's playing video games and he startles so bad he sends an electrical shock through the controller and blows a fuse. He's out on a mission in the middle of a storm and whenever anyone touches him they keep getting zapped with weirdly powerful static.
He insists no one knows. The truth is that most people don't know because the Administration would have to do too much paperwork if Jay actually had powers so they live in blissful ignorance. The few that do know keep their mouths shut and decide it's just a quirk of their weird manager. Jay's humming the mission impossible theme under his breath every other day, which is probably why he never even bothered to get to the "huh, I wonder why I have these weird powers" stage. And he will continue to not think about it until he dies. Or Nya finally finds him and has a meltdown over her greatest fear coming true. One of the two

Whump Prompt #1051
Anon asked:
Do you have anything for a character struck by lightning?? long term effects, the care for it etc?
There's the initial cardiac arrest of course; then the chest pain from the compressions and the disorientation after waking up.
The panic whenever there is a storm raging overhead.
The whumpee with lasting fern-like burns that always draw attention that they don't want.
Memory loss, seizures, muscle spasms and cataracts are long-term side effects.
Not sure how true this is, but found it interesting anyway: ‘ Most electricity from lightning dissipates over the skin instead of penetrating it. This “flashover” can do indirect damage by singeing clothing, vaporizing sweat, and making metal objects such as keys and jewellery burning hot (so much so that they can brand skin) ‘ [X]
There are also different kinds of lightning injury, so use them to judge the severity of your whumpees injuries: [X]

Lightning Arresters Uses
Lightning Arresters are widely used all over the world in different industries. Here are the top uses of Lightning Arresters -When a traveling wave reaches the arrestor, its sparks over at a certain prefixed voltage. The arrestor provides a conducting path to the waves of relatively low impedance between the line and the ground.
The surge impedance of the line restricts the amplitude of the current flowing to the ground.
The lightning arrester provides a path of low impedance only when the traveling surge reaches the surge diverter, neither before it nor after it.

In the face of repeated turmoil (911 fic Companion Piece to In a Flash or Two)
911 Masterlist, Ao3
Part 2 of sorts. Bobby's POV as requested on Ao3
Part 1: In a Flash or Two (9-1-1 Pre-6b Speculative Fic- Eddie's POV)
Part 3: Starting to think that Truck hates me (Buck's POV)
A/N: I didn't get to give this a final read through because of a migraine but I wanted to get it out as soon as I could. So it may get edited after posting. Please excuse any typos. I don't have a beta reader and my brain is just not having it today. Part 3 will be Buck's Pov and will be posted soon, hopefully in a few minutes.
Bobby watches in horror as lightning not only hits the ladder truck but Buck as well. He prays to God that it wasn't a direct hit. He knows the odds. The bolt takes out the firefighter manning the controls too, and Bobby cares about both of them. He knows they need help, but he can already see the medics are on the way to the man on the ground. He isn’t the one still in peril. So his focus is back on Buck. Of course, it had to be Evan Buckley. Bobby is figuring out how best to coordinate his team when he sees Eddie clamor up to the base of the ladder, and before Bobby can even fully react, lightning flashes again. And Bobby knows that things just got drastically worse.
Bobby has to prioritize. He puts out a call for backup and requests another aerial truck now. He is only a tiny bit relieved when a platform is sent their way. That means they’ll be able to get Buck down soon. But first, he needs to get Eddie out of there safely. So he gives orders. He has a team, including Hen, go to Eddie and get him off the truck. Then the medics can work. Chimney follows that team-up and confirms the controls are shot. Two simultaneous strikes to the truck those controls are done for. All the electronics on the truck probably are. That is going to be a pretty penny. But that isn’t the priority. As Hen's team moves Eddie, Bobby and a secondary team prepare for immediate medical assistance below Buck. As much as Bobby himself wants to go up that ladder right now and find a way to secure Buck himself, he knows that is too risky for both of them. No one is going up that ladder. As soon as Eddie is out of the way, Chimney and Hen focus on him. Hen goes with the other team of medics with Eddie to the hospital. Bobby is giving orders as soon as the platform truck gets there. They don’t waste any time. Bobby wants nothing more than to harness up and retrieve Buck himself. But again, he has to delegate. He’s the captain on site. He has to coordinate. That is his job. So he watches as the new team gear up and, with practiced ease, gets the platform in place. Bobby can’t help but hold his breath as they reach Buck. He forces himself to take a breath as they take Buck’s weight and release the safety line. The shouting and how quickly the men work on getting Buck to the ground do little to reassure him. The fact the medics start CPR as soon as he is secured didn’t make him feel any better.
They hurry to get Buck free from the safety gear and secure him to the stretcher. Bobby has to consciously remind himself to let the paramedics do their job. As much as Bobby wants to check Buck's vitals, he can't get in their way. He is still the captain on-site, and he is still in command.
So he does his job but is quick to hand off command as soon as possible. His ladder truck is useless. There wasn’t much they could do but try and get it out of the way. And that was not something he needed to actually be there for. He made sure they had everything they might need out of the truck and left what the others might need. With a quick call, he made his way to the hospital to meet up with his medics and check on Buck and Eddie.
His team is down by two, down a truck, and that makes them pretty much on ambulance duty now, apart from the team that was currently working the engine. He kept close tabs on them as he did what needed to be done. He has them reroute most calls to the nearest house. The engine and ambulance would be available for support, but the team was spread pretty thin, and he needed to check in with the hospital. He was going to need time to sort out the crew.
Once Bobby is at the hospital he is busy giving every detail and signing every form he needs to. Chimney had already called Maddie by the time Bobby got there. And is told the hospital already contacted Eddie's family. But Bobby still checks in with Carla himself. Then he calls Athena. She cares about Bobby's foolish and often reckless team, especially Buck. She worries about them almost as much as she does about May and Harry. He does too. They stay until Maddie and Eddie's aunt arrive. He hates leaving, but the storm hasn't stopped. He still has the engine crew out working, and the ambulance is still on call. The storm doesn’t care what their team has suffered. They need to finish the shift. They were obligated to keep going. So when the call comes in that medics were needed, and they were the nearest unoccupied unit, they had to accept. It was their job. Bobby went with them.
When their shift was over they came back to wait with the others. All they could do now was wait. Hen went to sit with Eddie's aunt. Chim opted to go home to his daughter so Maddie could stay with her brother and not worry about Jee-Yun. Bobby tries not to think too hard about how familiar it feels to walk into a hospital room to see Evan Buckley unconscious in the bed. It hurts him. It's like a piece of him breaks every time, but he also knows he wouldn't want to be anywhere else while his team is hospitalized. He isn't on the clock. Then he'll be right there with them until they are released, or he is dragged away by his wife or kids. They are the only thing more important than his team. And he knows his wife and kids are just as worried as he is.
He and Maddie are there when Buck starts to come around. Maddie coaxes her brother awake with practiced ease. They are quick to calm Buck when he realizes where he is. Neither are surprised when Buck looks around and looks confused. They know what he is going to say next. "Wait, where's Eddie? Did he go home?" “Let me start by saying that Eddie’s stable. He was struck too,” Bobby starts. “He looked like more of a contact strike. You, on the other hand. Your turnout gear might have helped you a bit, but you have one hell of a burn.” “Can I see him? I wanna see him,” Buck says. "Eddie is okay," Bobby repeats. "Not going anywhere yet. You or him. But he's stable." "You need to get yourself better before you can do anything for Eddie," Maddie points out. "His aunt and Hen are with him." "What about Christopher?" "He is at Isabel's, and Carla said she'd help if needed." "He's okay, just worried about you and Eddie," Maddie adds.
Bobby works on paperwork as Buck sleeps. He checks in with Hen every now and again but mostly stays with Buck and keeps everyone not there in the loop. It is mostly quiet until Hen comes to tell him Eddie is awake. In the hall, she tells him how Eddie reacted when he woke up. She didn't want Buck to worry. But that ship has sailed. She stays to chat with Maddie as Bobby goes to Eddie's room. Pepa excuses herself to update Isabel and Eddie's parents.
Bobby is not surprised when Eddie's first question is about Buck. It brings back that familiar feeling of exasperation and fondness he has with the most ridiculous, foolhardy, and oblivious pair on the team. They are two idiots completely gone on each other, but neither of them are willing to admit it. He cares for them both like they are his own family. But at times like these, he has to remind himself that he isn't their family. He is their boss. He cannot play matchmaker. He cannot smack them both in the head and tell them to just go for it. He can be supportive. He can be protective. He can be downright parental, but he can't cross that line. He has pushed that boundary before, and it was risky. He didn't want to risk the safety and sanity of his team if he nudged them into something and it blows up in their faces. They have been through a time when Buck and Eddie were not in a good place. They fought, and it had been a bad time for the team. He had a feeling that wouldn't be an issue. They are practically a family unit already. They already co-parent Christopher. They are attached at the hip on and off the clock. And Eddie has been the most jealous and petty guy when Buck was with anyone else. Even when Eddie had his own girlfriend. Buck was like a kicked puppy when Eddie was with Ana unless he thought Eddie was looking. Buck played the role of a supportive, but protective best friend better than Eddie. Of course, Eddie was protective of Buck. He just was never one to hide his dislike of Taylor. Not a fan of Lucy either when he found out. Bobby and the rest of the team had endured Eddie's petty remarks. They tried to get him to admit he was jealous. But he mainly framed it as Christopher missing his Buck. It would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating to watch his friends be stupid. Idiots in love. That's what the pair were. Buck and Eddie were idiots in love. They just are too scared to admit it.
So Bobby just shook his head and tried not to smile at one of his most stubborn teammates.
Eddie asks, "How's Buck?" Bobby sighs and shakes his head, but the corners of his lips notch up into an exasperated but fond grin. "I knew that'd be the first thing out of your mouth," Bobby admits. "Bobby, pl-" Eddie starts, but Bobby holds a hand up and stops him. "He is resting," Bobby answers. "Buck's got a lot of the same injuries you do, but he has some extra bruises and such from the safety harness. But the gear did its job. The medics did their job." "But he's been awake?" Eddie has to know. "In and out because of the pain meds, but he'll be on the mend in no time." "But he's not on the mend yet? Meaning-" "With Buck's history, they are being extra cautious. The history of clots, complications, and everything has the doctors keeping a close eye on him. They hope he is out of the woods-" "But Buck has to be dramatic about everything," Eddie grumbles. "He isn't the only one," Bobby says, leveling Eddie with his usual 'Unamused Captain' look. "You both are lucky. This could have been so much worse. I know you were acting more on instinct than anything, but-" "I know, I should have waited for orders. I know I just slowed down anyone getting to Buck. I know-" Bobby chuckled. "You should have, but we all know that we'd all have done the same thing. This is Buck, after all."
"But he'll be okay," Bobby assures him. "And you will too if you both let yourselves heal and don't try to rush things." Eddie lets out an indignant snort. "Buck will never-" "Oh, he has already caved, Carla and Maddie threatened to get Christopher to convince him, and we all know he can't say no to that kid of yours. So it's now on you."
Bobby feels bad using Christopher as leverage. Not a day went by Bobby didn't miss his kids. He knows how hard it is to be a dad that worries. Eddie reminds him so often of himself sometimes. Too stubborn to admit he had a problem until something went wrong. But still willing to get better, to be better, to learn. And that made Bobby proud to have Eddie on his team and to consider him a friend. And Bobby wanted the best for Eddie. He wanted the best for all of them. So he made a suggestion that he had been considering for some time. "You need to make sure you take care of yourself. You've been through a lot recently. You are handling it all well, and I'm proud of you for that, but just be careful on how much pressure you put on yourself. And send Frank a message when you can." "Is that a suggestion from my captain or…" "That is a suggestion from your friend that knows you have had a rough year dealing with your past. PTSD isn't something that just goes away and this," Bobby says, gesturing to the room, to the world outside, and towards Buck's room. "Is a lot. Both you and Buck being in here is tough on everyone, but what we feel is nothing compared to the two of you. You both were hit by lightning. You both lost consciousness. You both nearly died. And that is just the physical toll. Mentally this might be difficult." "I'll be fine-" "I didn't mean for just you. You, Buck, Even Christopher." "Christopher has a support net," Eddie answers swiftly. "Okay, do you?" "Of course, you know that," Eddie is confused about what Bobby is actually getting at. "Did they ever suggest a service dog?" "For Christopher? Yeah, they-" "I meant for you," Bobby states. "What?" "Has Frank ever told you there are programs that train service dogs for PTSD? Trained to deal with nightmares, panic attacks, and more. Or yeah, maybe one for Christopher as he gets older to help him feel more independent. Or even just a companion or visits from a therapy dog could-" "Maybe…maybe I'll look into it," Eddie says, quick to add, "For Christopher."
They both smile when Tia Pepa returns and hands the phone to Eddie to talk to his mother. Eddie clearly bites back a sigh as he takes the phone.
"How's Isabel?" Bobby asks Pepa. "She is well, just worried for her boys," Pepa grins. "How are your wife and family?" "They're great," Bobby smiles. "Athena plans on coming by before her shift tomorrow. May is off at school now.” “You must be very proud,” she says. “I am,” Bobby admits. “They stress us out less than these boys do.” “I do not doubt it. Keeps life interesting,” she adds. “If only they realize it is too interesting.”
Pepa takes the phone back after Eddie hangs up. "You guys can go home. No need to hang around here for me. I'm not going anywhere til morning," Eddie complains. "And leave not one but two of my guys? Not happening," Bobby tells him. "Maybe in a little bit," Pepa concedes.
They all chat for a bit before Pepa says goodbye and that she'll bring Abuela and Christopher in the morning, and hopefully, they can all go home then. A nurse comes to take his vitals not long after. "You can go back to Buck if you want," Eddie tells Bobby once it is just them. "He's fine. Maddie's with him," Bobby reminds him. "So you're stuck babysitting me," Eddie laments. "Not how I would phrase it, but yeah, you're stuck with me for now." Bobby grins. "And it's not a chore, Eddie." The doctor came to check in before the end of his shift, and after a back and forth that was Eddie half begging, half threatening, the doctor agreed that he could leave the room. He could leave the room on one condition, he did so in a wheelchair, and he stays in the chair. Bobby was amused when Eddie agrees faster than he expected. He really expected more from the usually stubborn firefighter. He isn't surprised that Eddie complains when Bobby has to push the chair. And Bobby let him complain all the way to Buck's room. Bobby is amused again when the complaints stop as they near the open door. "You good?" Bobby asks. "Yeah," Eddie nods, "Just can't shake that image of him just hanging there, too still." "I know, but he doing better than most of us expected," Bobby assures him. Eddie nods again and they close the distance. Just outside the room, they manage to catch what Buck and Maddie are saying. What Eddie hears has him sitting up straight and his shoulders tight.
"You really do think acts of nature are your fault," they hear Maddie say. "No, but you gotta admit I'm not much help to either of them now." That's Buck, and he sounds sad. "I am sure, Eddie disagrees." Eddie agrees with Maddie if this is what he thinks it is. Eddie takes over, moving the chair and is moving into the room as Buck answers. "He shouldn't, I mean, look at what happened. Look where we are. Look at what might-" Eddie can't let him finish. "If you are worrying about what I think you are, knock it off." Bobby just stands behind Eddie and wonders how awkward this is all about to get. The unasked question was clear on Buck's face. What are they doing here? "Tia Pepa went home," Eddie tells them. "Abuela will be here in the morning." "He wore the staff down until they let him come visit," Bobby tells them as he moves to sit in one of the chairs. "Now, what were you talking about?" Eddie asks. Buck doesn't answer. It is just as awkward as Bobby expected. "Buck, if this is about Christopher-" "Maddie, when was the last time you ate?" Bobby asks, standing up again. "I could go for a snack or something. Need to stretch your legs?" "Good idea," Maddie agrees, and they both make a hasty exit. "How is he?" Bobby asks as they reach the vending machines. He isn't really that hungry, but he gets something for himself and Maddie for sake of their alibi. "Thanks," Maddie says, accepting the snack. "He is doing alright. The meds have him sleeping most of the time. But when he's awake he is still processing what they told him." "And he thinks Eddie's going to change his mind about him being Christopher's guardian." "Which is stupid because we all know Eddie wouldn't do that. He's too scared to admit he'd rather raise him with Buck than anyone else." "And Buck will always agree in a heartbeat," Bobby finishes for her. "Exactly," Maddie nods. "I wish they'd just admit they love each other and quit drawing it out. They are stupid in love." "They are, but I can't say anything, and Buck probably doesn't believe you." "Spot on again, Captain." Maddie grins. "They'll just have to figure it out," Bobby sighs. "Hopefully sooner rather than later," Maddie states. "For all of our sanity." They both take the opportunity to check in at home. "Huh, guess sooner it is," Bobby whispers, a grin on his face. Maddie looks into the room to see both Buck and Eddie fast asleep in Buck's bed. "About time," Maddie chuckles. "Go home, Bobby." She tells him. "I don't think they're going anywhere anytime soon." She snaps a picture of the two cuddled firefighters to send to her husband. "Athena has tomorrow off, so she'll be here bright and early." "I'll stay a bit longer, but I have a feeling they'll be okay for a bit," Maddie says. "Call me if you need to," he tells her. "Or if anything happens." "Will do," Maddie agrees. "Night, Bobby."
His phone chimes as he reaches the parking lot. It's a picture from inside the room of the sleeping pair of firefighters. Maddie: they didn't even wake up when I went in or sat down Bobby: they must really be out of it Maddie: no doubt about it
Bobby forwards the picture to Athena and lets her know he is on his way home. He'd check in with them tomorrow, but for now, he'd let the injured pair sleep. Bobby can finally let himself relax as he let himself in his front door. The house is dark for the most part. He lets himself really take it in. Let himself just breathe in the quiet house. Everyone was okay. Buck and Eddie were on the mend, and the team would be short-handed for a bit, but he doubted it would be for very long. Eddie will be back to himself in a few days. Buck might take more time, but he was alive, and that was all Bobby cared about. Everyone was going to be okay. He smiles to himself and heads toward his bedroom. He could sleep for days, it feels like. Or at least mid-morning.

Enhanced Safety with ESE Lightning Arresters: Comprehensive Protection Against Lightning Strikes
ESE lightning arrester offer advanced lightning protection for buildings, infrastructure, and open spaces. Unlike traditional lightning rods, which passively attract and discharge lightning strikes, ESE lightning arresters use an active mechanism to emit an upward leader, improving the structure’s protective radius. This proactive feature provides extended protection by generating an electric field that draws lightning strikes more effectively than standard systems, reducing potential damage to surrounding areas.
These arresters are essential in high-risk locations such as factories, high-rise buildings, and open fields, where lightning can pose severe safety hazards. Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, ESE systems offer reliable protection even during powerful storms, thanks to their robust materials and innovative designs. Their effectiveness is heightened by the ability to initiate an early upward leader, which intercepts lightning before it reaches vulnerable structures.
Installation of ESE lightning arresters ensures optimal safety by covering a larger area with fewer devices, making them cost-effective in the long run. This method not only reduces the risk of direct strikes but also minimizes damage from secondary effects like electrical surges, preserving both property and lives. Adopting ESE technology aligns with international standards, making it a preferred choice for modern infrastructure looking to safeguard against the destructive forces of lightning.
