Yeah there would need to be some reshuffling. I think many suggested Barry as Pyros as it would need minimal design alterations. Though it feels... a little boring ... you know. Ace can work as Aquos if we add Lancelot theme (lol) to his bakugan evolutions. We can even play with arthurian themes. Yes, it makes Mira his Arthur and we can pull so much from this. It doesn't matter that the original may not have been that deep. Doesn't matter.

it would mean no Marucho but! I think him having screentime in Gundalions was a right call because his Ren dynamics were good. So he is still represented. Mira must stay subterra for gus parallel purposes (and salt mines). Speaking of Gus, gus as bastard theory is good so maybe it would have worked as canon.

some notes:

pyrus for baron works surprisingly well with his energetic attitude and canon catchphrase 「激熱!」 gekiatsu! → "let's fire this up!"

added some tails to his headband. i was gonna replace the lightning bolt with flames but i can't draw flames so 😭pyrus symbol it is rip

his overall fit is pretty nice so i didn't want to change anything. although i didn't draw the rest of him, i can imagine swapping his pants and boots for dan's since dan won't be in the resistance in this au lol

ace was lucky enough to get some of shun's gender ambiguous swag. the gloves and exposed shoulders are an obvious reference to shun's resistance fit. kept the big sleeves bc that's ace's thing™️but he will have to fight hatsune miku for the trademark tho.

the rings in his hair are actually a reference to elyon from w.i.t.c.h. for no other reason other than i thought it'd look cool. but it also works because marucho's resistance outfit has a lot of circles on it.

could be nice if there was some lady of the lake stuff sprinkled into ace's ability cards especially after percival evolves into knight percival but alas, i know nothing about the legend of king arthur so im leaving this up to you guys lmao.

and yeah, i totally agree with you. marucho is really not needed for the first half of nv so i don't mind swapping him out for runo or alice. mira of course should stay because she started the resistance and she needs to be the driving force behind the whole bakugan liberation movement. the spectra/gus and mira/ace parallels would be even more pronounced with ace acting as mira's lancelot 🫣

as for the gus theory asjhdjksask i don't mind if it's there in a possible s2 rewrite or not. i feel like that kinda plot twist would need a reason to be there so i'll think about what it could mean for gus' character arc to be zenoheld's bastard child because it would change a lot.

Today I feel like talking about Ness

Ness is my artificer from a campaign I've been in for about three years now, and she is great. She has a horde of tiny robots at her command, the designs of which are all based on bakugan. She has a backpack that is almost as big as she is. She has a Cure Wounds Gun that does 1d8+5 Healing Damage and also several high-yield explosives. But also. She has access to a very fun magic system.

She is multiclassed into a homebrew class I like called the Witch, and the magic she casts through it is done in glyphs as a blatant Owl House reference. However what she can also do is try putting glyph components together to make things. About a year ago the DM put together a whole load of linguistic stuff together for this glyph language called Aegian, which not only has Ness been learning how to use, but *I* have been learning to use. I have a notebook full of all the things I was told about Aegian but also things I was able to deduce myself, and because of this I am able to put things together and take a guess at what it will do. By doing this, I can sketch the glyph on paper and then anyone can use it to cast a spell, such as Lightning Bolt or Detect Thoughts (two that I know how to make). My favourite instance of this was last session.

Negotiations with a devil had just broken down horrifically, and we were mid combat. WotC is allergic to making spells that don't cause fire damage, so I couldn't hurt him, and I was more focused on getting other people out of harm's way anyway. But I remembered something. Aegian is an ideographic language, which means that combining two symbols gets a new meaning that is roughly equivalent to the combined meaning. The example that the DM used to demonstrate this all the way back then was the symbol for Fiend. So, by combining Fire + Life (Fiend) with Negate, I created this glyph:

Which I wasn't sure would work, but oh boy it did. This glyph ended up roughly producing the effect "Banish Fiend" (it's actually an unstable glyph that can have a different effect, so I've got it written down as "Abjure Fiend" for now). So I yote the devil back to hell.

Or rather, I tried to.

Because it transpired that this bitch had been banished from Tartarus and could not return without being smacked back by Hades himself. So I did not banish him. I crushed him between planar walls. He survived once, but after getting whaled on more by our Monk he absolutely did not survive when I was able to try it again.

We levelled up to 19 for our efforts :)

Top five plotlines I think Bakugan should've continued with but they didn't because they're COWARDS.

1 • Dan's "possession" arc.

Remember when Dan was "controlled" by Haavik? Well actually, (and I will make a full post on this soon) he wasn't being controlled at all. Similarly to Everett, Sophie, McQ and Storm, his mind was simply twisted to bring out his more negative emotions and desires rather than his positive ones. I really feel like this was something Bakugan should've let go on for a few more episodes than it did in canon as it showed a whole different side to Dan than we usually see.

2 • Magnus and Ajit's friendship.

In Armored Alliance episodes 11, 30 and 47 we see Magnus and Ajit interact and it's clear to see that by the end of episode 47 the two definitely have a strong friendship. However in the following seasons Bakugan Geogan Rising and Bakugan Evolutions, despite the two often seeing each other alongside the rest of the AB, they never actually speak with each other. Hopefully Bakugan will allow the two to be friends again in the upcoming season, Bakugan Legends, especially considering how Magnus's voice actor has mentioned he likes the friendship between the two characters as well!

3 • Ajit's roommate.

During Bakugan Evolutions, while the Awesome Brawlers were staying at the academy, they all were given roommates. All of them except Ajit. Bakugan made this into a point that got brought up multiple times and ended up making a whole episode based on Ajit trying to find out who his roommate is and then still never revealed them. The fandom had multiple theories on who Ajit's roommate could be, the most popular theories being that Ajit's roommate was either Magnus, Chet or Kurin. In the end, we still don't know. I wish Bakugan had revealed a roommate for Ajit, maybe in Bakugan Legends they'll introduce a new character who was actually Ajit's mystery roommate that whole time, hm? I don't seriously think they would do that but it sure as hell would be funny if they did.

4 • Magnus's disappearance.

In Magnus of the Wild, episode eight of Bakugan Geogan Rising. Magnus tricks Wynton, Lia, Shun, Ajit and Lightning into battling him just so he'll lose on purpose and be able to enter Vestroia to look for Dan. He never actually finds Dan though, we then don't see Magnus until four episodes later. Meanwhile we see Dan in episode nine reuniting with the AB. Why didn't Magnus find Dan, how did he end up in god-knows-where Cubbo Kingdom? In episode twelve we learn Magnus is still looking for Dan. Seriously Bakugan, what happened?

5 • Side characters.

This is a collection of pretty minor things but things wanted by all of the fandom so much that they've become quite major things in my opinion. Bakugan has such a wide and diverse range of side characters, so PLEASE can they return and get a little more development or at least a mention every now and then. In Armored Alliance, the AB meet a ghost named Monica who Lia befriends. In Geogan Rising, Lia says there's no such thing as ghosts. They could've instead made a callback to Monica and have Lia say "It's fine, I shouldn't be scared of ghosts, the only one I've met was super nice!" instead of forgetting Monica exists altogether. During Evolutions, Callie and Chet could've been given a little more development here and there, they could've been in a couple more scenes even if they're just split second ones showing them help the other academy students get away during Wrath's attacks. They were introduced as brawlers and students almost on the same level as Athena and while they're side characters and Athena is a main character, they still should've had a chance to showcase that. Everett Ray was never that much of a bad guy, he kept being manipulated into joining the wrong people, he should have gotten redeemed in Geogan Rising instead of becoming more of an antagonist. Characters such as Kurin, Pepe, Zhao and The Glanz Four should've returned in seasons after Armored Alliance, they were all fan favourite side characters, they shouldn't have just been forgotten. Then there's Emily, who in Armored Alliance was shown to be a strong brawler, winning multiple battles including some against Haavik's forces that she fought alongside Riot and Magnus. Yet in Geogan Rising she appeared in one episode and was made to seem weak. I'm aware I'm ranting by now but I stand by what I said, the side characters deserved better and should've had more screentime.

Quirk Idea based on Bakugan: Sphere Monsters. Allows the user to create small spheres that unfold to become mechanical creatures. Each has a different appearance, being able to be virtually any creature. They also can spew either fire, water, gusts of wind, clumps of earth, light darts, or shadowy energy. The obvious downside is that none are any bigger than the user's palms meaning each individual Sphere Monster isn't very powerful. I don't have anymore ideas so if you can expand it that's cool

I do think that there is potential in this idea of having these small minions that are weak but varied, but it would need some expansion and changes for it to work. I'm not sure about the bit about them being "virtually any creature". Because I really don’t see that adding much or having any point for the Quirk. I think it would work better if they had one unified appearance or if you gave them each their own appearance, like making the fire one a dog and the air one a bird. I don't get the mechanical part either, but you could chalk that up more to aesthetics. I'm not sure about the user throwing light or darkness into the mix here either. I know that’s how it is in the show, but those don't exactly line up as well with the other elements. I would keep it as earth, water, fire, and air. Maybe with one or two other traditional elements like lightning, wood, or metal. Otherwise, I would clear up exactly how much the user can make at a time and how they can control them. Can they only make one of each element, or can they make a swarm of them? Do they need to give out vocal commands, wave their hands around, or is it a mental link? Does that control extend over short or long ranges? If it is only one per element, I would suggest upping the size and power of the ones they can make, like making them more cat or dog sized. Some of those could even work as drawbacks depending on how you want to go about it.

8: oh, wei have a LOT of reoccurring dreams! the most memorable one was when the form wei share was really little. it was basically the aristocats but just duchess and her kittens, set in an alien red thunderstruck crater-filled landscape. the pov wei were in for the dream was duchess. it started off with lightning hitting the crater we were in then the kittens running away. "i" chased after them for a while and found them each in hordes of themself and the only way i could tell which was the real one was by their accessories. i think i even dreamt ad breaks too the second time i ever had that dream.

14: roller derby/riding anything with wheels that isn't a segway.

28: off the top of our head...wei collect beyblades, bakugan, yugioh cards, accessories, cute clothes, eco safe glitters/rhinestones. sequins/etc, cute stickers and decor, favorite media, and cool songs!
