Yeah, I never understood this either.

Like sure, there are bad closed species out there.

But I've seen plenty of really nice closed species, ones where artists really work on the lore, community, and art.

There's also cases like with mine. I have Ligereeps as a closed species because canonically they're endangered in the world they're in. At some point I want to make them more available, but I need to first make ref sheets for them that I'm happy with. It's also not like people can't make their own horned large feline species either, just that specifically ligereeps are mine.

I keep seeing videos of people bitching about closed species adoptables and acting like all closed species adoptables are bad just because there are bad ones that exist.

Like, I get the ripoff that is charging hundreds of dollars to get rare but simple traits added to the adoptable where all they do is use a base, and saying no one is allowed to make anything like them.

But there are different circumstances where I'd say a closed species is fair.

For example, my Fearmongers are a closed species in the context that they are a species from a webcomic and when you adopt one yours becomes canon to the comic world and may even have a chance of making a cameo appearance. You also get access to a 14 page bio sheet that has spoilers that haven't been revealed in the comic yet. AND on top of that I don't use a base for ANY of them. Each one is a unique hand drawn design. In fact, the cost for them is cheaper than what I charge for commissions of the same type of lining and coloring.

And while I said in the past people couldn't make them, it was a "can't make them YET" sort of deal simply because there wasn't enough info out there about them yet for anyone's fan fearmonger to be accurate. Now, I say it's okay to make your own, but that unless you adopt one from me, yours will not be considered canon to the world and will not be included in the family album, and you're not going to have ALL the information on them unless you wait for it to be released in the comic.

I dunno, imo that sounds pretty fair to me, and I don't like people generalizing closed species based on the bad eggs out there that are clearly just looking for an easy cash grab.

I’ve never really drawn anything like this before... I guess because I never really felt like I knew exactly what I was so it was hard to place the colors? I mean the last year or so I finally figured out what I was so ye...

Even if I may not be part of the LGBT+ community (as in I avoid the label, SaGE ftw), I still support the equality for everyone and celebrate pride.
