Domestic King!Thomas Hiddleston Headcanons
Based on Heart of/Life in Audrilluria.
Heart of Audrilluria Masterlist
Life in Audrilluria Masterlist
Warnings: Extreme Fluff!! Soft Tom, Tom in general (this man needs a permanent warning), the Wonderful White T-Shirt, mentions of seggs, and some hecking words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it cames to Thomas, domesticity isn't something very common (given the uh... you know... king status). However, this only makes it even more special and cherished when you have a day off.
On the rare occasion you have a day off, the morning will start late, waking up at 10 am rather that 6 am as usual. Normally, you're awakened by a knocking at the door.
For these days, Thomas makes plans weeks in advance. Plans for the two of you to do absolutely nothing all day. He's a king 24/7. He needs at least one day every so often to relax and remember what it was like to interact with others for something other than royal business.
When the knocking at the door wakes you up, Thomas INSISTS on opening it himself and letting you rest a little longer. He's a gentleman, afterall. After greeting the person at the door, he walks back in with a cart containing breakfast. An assortment of your favorite fruit decorated as if they were flowers. A couple plates of your preferred breakfast meal. And a fresh beverage of your choice.
Thomas walks over to you, greeting you in a soft, deep voice still croaking with sleep. Placing soft kisses all over your face and neck with every word he speaks, he wraps his arms around you and pulls you into his chest. Now sitting on the bed with your back pressed to his chest, he let's go momentarily to bring you breakfast in bed.
After enjoying a meal in bed and having a few extra cuddles, you both get ready for a day to yourselves.
Thomas is definately dressing up casusal for once in his incredibly busy life just to have a nice relaxing day with you. Honestly, you're surprised he owns a T-shirt. Nonetheless, you spend about half an hour admiring how good he looks in that snug white shirt. (You know the one ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
He notices you staring. Its kind of obvious. He lets you look just a little longer, smugness building, before he smirks letting you know he knows. "See something you like, darling?"
Immediately walks over to hug you whe you get flustered after getting caught. Continues to tease, but lets you hide your face in his chest.
Or maybe, you get smug too. If you do, be prepared for his to retaliate with every ounce of smoothness in this man's body. It's enough to almost make your knees give out... Almost... If you keep going, he will persist, his only objective is to make your knees weak only so he can help you stand. If he is unsuccessful, well, let's just say he knows other ways to complete his objective. And well, he'll probably need to call the servers to send up a late lunch and skip dinner. Just to give you a small break to replenish your energy before the next couple rounds. 😘
That damned white shirt is magical.
Anyhow, the rest of his day off is spent in the massive castle library. Remember the one from Beauty and the Beast? That big. Its a damn maze. (An it also has a directory).
You spend the whole afternoon or evening( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) either reading while cuddling with him on one of the many couches in the library, having him read to you in his soothing voice, or discussing books you've read in a miniature book club. It's such sweet way to bond and you'd expect nothing less from the educated gentleman that is your majesty<3 boyfriend.
You count of time every day off, just because it's too peaceful to think of anything else. The latest you've stayed in the library is half an our past midnight. And just because one of the castle guards went looking for the two of you to let you know it was already tomorrow.
Every once in a while, one of the servers will stop by and bring you food and beverages just to make sure you don't spend too much time without sustenance.
After a long day of just being a couple, you retire to your shared room, eyes heavy with sleep. The entire time it takes you two to get to the bedroom, Thomas has his arms around you, holding you close while continuing to have a conversation with you. (By the way, The look he gives you as you talk about anything at all tells you just how much he loves everything about you. The softness in his eyes as he hangs on to every word you speak)
As soon as you get to the room, he will pull you towards the bed and lay down with you. He'll wrap his arms around you tightly and not let you go, despite your protests (or lack of).
He won't even worry about changing out of his day clothes. It just you and him in a blissful moment that he wishes would last forever.
Once sleep starts to creep into your eyelids, Thomas will kiss your forehead, lulling you to sleep as he tells you about how much he enjoyed the day spent with the love of his life.
The final thing you hear before finally giving in to your tired mind is his soft voice.
"Goodnight, my love."

Life in Audrilluria- Chapter 2: Our Garden
Life in Audrilluria Masterlist
Heart of Audrilluria Masterlist
King!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
This Chapter Contains: Self-doubt, hints of a disagreement, Fluff, Soft Thomas, slow dance, Multiple references to Heart of Audrilluria, Cliffhanger ending
Tumblr media
Thomas sped through the garden’s entrance, knowing he was ten minutes late to his lunch date with Y/N. He’d sent a server to let her know that the meeting dragged on a bit and he would be late, but being the gentleman he was, he didn’t like keeping people waiting. Especially not his queen. Taking the short route through the garden, he made his way to the gazebo he instructed her to meet him at after the meeting was over. A small feeling of dread appeared in his stomach at the thought of the meeting. To say it didn’t go so well would be a complete understatement. And the mere thought of having to tell Y/N how it went caused the dread to grow stronger. He had to tell her. The question is if he could handle whatever the outcome would be.
Thomas shook his head, deciding to focus on finding Y/N. He’ll cross that bridge when he gets to it. Turning the final corner, the gazebo was in sight and Y/N was waiting, admiring the flowers that surrounded the structure. Thomas slowed his pace, marveling at the sight of her surrounded by the beautiful flowers. Even when standing in the garden, she was the most beautiful sight in his eyes. Y/N turned to him, finally noticing his presence, and smiled lovingly. Thomas snapped out of his trance, reciprocating the smile as he approached her. Once he was a few feet away, he held out his hand to her, “Pardon my tardiness, my dear. The meeting took longer than I anticipated.” Y/N took his hand, “It’s alright. You’re a king, I understand you’ll be held up by meetings in order to help your people.”
“Our people,” he corrected, leading her to the table waiting inside. Her expression changed a bit, quickly changing back to the smile before Thomas could decipher what she felt. He pulled out her chair for her, being the gentleman he was raised to be, and waited for her to sit before he pushed it in. He then made his way over to his seat and sat down. Both took their respective napkins and placed them on their lap before removing the silver cloches and placing them on a cart next to the table. Thomas then took the teapot and poured the liquid into a cup for her and one for himself. They began to enjoy their meal and drinks in silence at first before Y/N spoke up. “So how was the meeting?” she asked, taking a sip of the tea.
Thomas felt his stomach fall slightly, knowing that he had to tell her about the meeting in detail. “It was eventful,” he replied softly, placing the cup back in its saucer. “How so?” Y/N asked with a smile, giving him her full attention. Thomas looked into her eyes, trying to find the correct words to say in this situation. He didn’t want to spoil their first lunch together, but the meeting was something that had to be discussed. “There were several questions about the recent events,” he began carefully, “People wanted to know about the stolen replica jewels and what was being done to prevent something like that happening again.” Y/N became visibly uneasy, knowing where this would go. Thomas noticed this instantly, reaching to hold her hand from the other side of the table. “We don’t have to talk about this if you don’t want to,” he offered. Y/N shook her head,  “I want to get it out of the way. I knew this was going to happen eventually.” Thomas let out a deep sigh, running his thumb over her knuckles as a small form of comfort. He kept a soft expression on his face as he began to arrange his words in a way that would gently let her know everything she wanted to know.
“The press began to ask questions about the people responsible for what happened,” he spoke softly, “I answered honestly and mentioned the situation you were forced into.” Y/N simply nodded, taking in every word he said. “I spoke about the changes I plan on implementing to make sure nothing like that ever comes close to happening again,” he continued, “I focussed on the changes coming to the castle’s security.” Y/N spoke up suddenly, addressing something that had been bothering her, “Did they ask for a trial?” Thomas’s breath hitched, making a pit form in his stomach. “Yes,” he muttered, “But I assure you I--”
“We knew that was going to happen,” Y/N interrupted, “The people want justice for what I did.”
“What Vie made you do.”
“What’s the difference?” Y/N questioned, “I was the one that made the plan. I took the replica. I betrayed your trust. That was all me.” She pulled her hand out of his, letting her head drop to her shoulders. “Vie only threatened us. We were the ones that made sure the heist was a success,” she whispered solemnly, “We made that choice. Not her.” Thomas felt the pit in his stomach grow. He’d only known Y/N for a short time but was able to recognize when she felt guilt. He recognized when she thought lowly of herself. He recognized the look of sorrow in her eyes. He’d seen it before, in this exact location. The day of their ‘date’, Thomas swore to himself that he would do anything in his power to make sure her eyes never shed another sorrowful tear. He knew his promise to himself was close to being broken and he couldn’t let that happen. In an instant, he was able to think of something that would lift her spirits. Something he hadn’t done since the coronation.
Thomas stood, moving around the table towards her. Becoming more determined with every step he took, he stopped right next to her chair. He offered his hand for her to take, silently urging her to take it. Y/N lifted her head, finally looking up at him. Confusion laced her features as she tried to decipher what was going on. “May I have this dance?” he asked, giving her that same look she fell for in the first place. Sighing, she took his hand unable to contain the smile that was slowly forming. Gently pulling her to her feet, Thomas wrapped his arms around her. He held her close as he looked deeply into her eyes, leading her to the rhythm of an imaginary song playing only in his head.
They swayed gracefully, moving further away from the structure with every step they took. All the while, they never broke eye contact, seemingly lost in the wondrous abyss that was hidden in each other's eyes. The silence between them was filled by the soft, distant sounds of running water from the fountains nearby as well as the chirping of birds living in the garden. It was absolute bliss. To be embraced by Thomas as he led her through a dance was heaven to Y/N. Once more they were trapped in their own little world, focussing only on each other as they forgot about the rest of the world for a sweet moment.
Thomas’s movements slowly came to a stop, twirling Y/N one last time before wrapping his arms around her. He leaned in and pressed a loving kiss to her lips. She instantly reacted, leaning into him further as he wordlessly expressed every ounce of passion he felt for her. When the need for air became too unbearable to ignore, they pulled away slowly, once more looking into each other’s eyes. They took a moment to breathe, still holding one another before the silence was interrupted. “I brought you back fully intending to have you by my side. I brought you here so that I could give you the life you deserve. I made that promise to myself and I will fight with teeth and nails to fulfill it. I swear to you that this will be over soon and I will give you the peaceful life I told you about,” Thomas whispered, taking both her hands in his, “I said to you that I want to spend every day knowing I can come home to you. I told you I want to stay here with you by my side and enjoy life. I want to escape all my problems with you. I meant every word I said that day. And no matter what I have to do, you and I will have that life.”
Y/N gave him a hopeful smile, realizing with every word that she fell for him a little more with every little moment like this. She leaned her head on his chest, letting him wrap his arms around her again. “Ok,” she murmured, “I trust you.” Thomas let his chin rest on the top of her head, focussing on her breathing as he held her close. This is how he wanted to stay; with her safely in his arms as they enjoyed each other’s company and ignored their problems for a while. This form of simplicity was all he wanted with her. And he was one step closer to having it.
Y/N pulled away suddenly, looking up at him with a smile. “I believe the last time I was here, I wasn’t able to have the full tour of the garden,” she mentioned, “Would your majesty be so kind as to show me around?” Thomas smiled brightly, taking her hand in his. “I would love to,” Thomas cooed, pressing a soft kiss to the back of her hand. He then began leading her through a part of the garden she hadn’t been before, beginning their long journey through--what was now-- their garden.
~~~~~~
The sun was setting on the horizon, making the garden’s plantlife glow in an orange-ish, yellow hue. Thomas led Y/N to a bench located near a rose-covered arch that gave a perfect view of the sunset through some of the garden’s landscape. They both sat contently, having enjoyed their day together in their garden, and having just a taste of what the rest of their lives together would be like. “This is the best place from where to watch the sunset,” Thomas commented, holding on to Y/N’s hand even as they sat. Y/N took in a deep breath, appreciating the relaxing moment she got to share with her love. She had her eyes fixed on the view before them while Thomas’s eyes wandered over to her. He couldn’t believe how lucky he was to have her by his side, despite everything that had happened. He knew the instant she stepped foot in his life that he would go through unmeasurable lengths to protect her and have her feel safe in his arms. With her, he could finally have the simple life he longed for.
“Thomas! Y/N!” a voice called from behind them. Both turned to see Augustus running to them, looking distressed. He approached them, coming to a full stop a few feet away from the bench. “I’ve been looking for the two of you all day!” he exclaimed out of breath, “You have to come back to the castle immediately!” Thomas stood, fully facing him as he spoke, “What’s wrong?” Y/N stood as well, concern lacing her features as Augustus caught his breath. “Some of the nobles have returned,” he explained, “They want answers about what happened during the coronation.” Thomas’s features hardened, instinctively moving closer to Y/N. “How many?” Thomas asked bluntly, taking a protective stance. “Five so far,” he responded, “There is something else. There’s word that someone informed the Spanish Marquess about the imposters.”
Y/N’s breath hitched as she listened to those words fall from Augustus’s lips. “Thomas,” he whispered shakily, trying his best not to seem too afraid of the situation.
 “I’ve been told he is on his way.”
PREVIEW--Life in Audrilluria: Chapter 3
Tumblr media
There was shuffling outside the double doors, making both sisters look in their direction.
“I thought the meeting was supposed to last another hour.”
“It is.”
YlN stood up, heading towards the door before stopping in her tracks as it finally opened. Her stomach dropped as she came face to face with the man from the picture she was given in the briefing folder. His face was stern, brows creased and eyes becoming darker.
Life in Audrilluria--Chapter I: Before Ever After
Life in Audrilluria Masterlist
Heart of Audrilluria Masterlist
King!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Tumblr media
Recap:
Hours passed since they’d arrived in Blythenon. The sun had set moments ago, allowing the stars and moon to light up the sky. The children were each given a room in the vast castle and told where to go if they ever needed anything. Amelie was given a room of her own and Y/N settled for sharing a room with Thomas. It’s part of the life’s sentence, he argued. Not that Y/N minded. They were finally allowed to retire to their room for the night, choosing to deal with luggage tomorrow. Thomas carried Y/N through the door of their now shared room. Setting her down on the bed softly, he turned to the small table near the door and grabbed two glasses, handing one to Y/N.
She took it carefully, smiling at her beloved king. “So this is how we start our new life together in Audrilluria,” she pondered as Thomas sat down next to her. “I couldn't think of a better way to start. Or perhaps I could,” he replied, giving her a devious smirk as he leaned into her neck. Y/N giggled, moving away slightly. She raised her glass a little higher, “Here’s to a life sentence in paradise with you by my side.” Their glasses touched and they both brought their glasses up to their lips. Y/N looked into Thomas’s eyes as she took a sip.
Tumblr media
The morning air felt welcoming in her present state. Y/N didn’t open her eyes yet, deciding it was best to indulge in the moment. She felt an arm wrap around her middle and pull her closer to a warm chest. She smiled, turning her head to kiss the man whose bed she began to share yesterday. “Good morning, my love,” Thomas croaked in a deep yet smooth voice. “Good morning,” she replied with a smile. Turning around in his arms, she cuddled closer to him, basking in his warmth and smell. Y/N looked up to meet his eyes, realizing he was already looking down at her. “What’s on your mind?” she asked, noticing a distant uneasiness in his eyes.
“I have to give an official address later this morning. I’m on edge about it, but I don’t want you to worry,” he whispered calmly. Y/N’s smile dropped, “It’s about me, right?” Thomas placed a hand on her cheek, “It’s not, it’s about the thief who stole the replica of the heart.” Y/n sighed, shifting slightly, “It’s about me. I’m the thief that stole the replica.”  Thomas pulled her in closer, shifting his weight to accommodate her proximity, “You’re not to blame for it. You were a pawn in the vicious scheme of a horrible woman. You shouldn’t be blamed for something you couldn’t control.”
“That’s not going to stop people from thinking that I was the one at fault,” she argued. Y/N knew that there was no way people wouldn’t see her primarily as the reason for the kingdom’s recent unrest. It was going to be nearly impossible to convince everyone, even with the king’s word. “I can talk to them. I know not everyone will agree, but frankly, I don’t care,” he lifted her chin to meet his eyes, “Bringing you back here was my decision. I don’t give a damn if I’m criticized or if I’m called a bad king. I chose to follow my instincts. I chose to listen to my heart. I chose you.”
Y/N sighed, giving him a loving smile. “You silver-tongued, charming devil,” she whispered, leaning into him to place a small kiss to his lips. Thomas smiled lovingly, touching his forehead to hers. “I made you a promise the day I brought you back. I promised to stay by your side no matter what we had to face. I intend to keep that promise until my last breath,” he whispered in a serious, sincere voice that made Y/N melt. “I love you, Thomas,” she whispered, closing her eyes and just taking in the moment. “I love you too,” he replied into her hair. This moment was everything each of them could have asked for. It was perfect. Y/N wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of the day like this, in each other's arms.
“Your Highness,” a voice called from outside the door. Damnit. “The address begins in an hour,” they concluded, ruining their perfect moment. “Thank you. You may carry on,” Thomas called back. When the sound of footsteps faded, Y/N looked at Thomas once more. “You have to get ready,” she said, more as a statement than a question. “Unfortunately,” he mumbled, “But I promise to make it up to you for lunch.” Y/N nodded, “If we can spend the rest of the day like this, I’ll settle for lunch in the gardens.” Thomas took her hand in his hand and brought it up to his lips, placing a soft kiss to her knuckles, “As you wish, my love.”
~~~~~~~~~~
The address would start in five minutes. Thomas felt the weight of the universe fall upon his shoulders. He knew what he was going to say. He knew what was expected of him. However, this wasn’t going to be easy. Y/N was right, even as king, he wouldn’t be able to convince everyone of the sisters’ innocence. He knew Y/N was right, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to try. It just meant that he was prepared for the worse. Besides, Y/N and Amelie’s life sentence in Audrilluria was still in place. Granted they weren’t behind bars, but he could easily make the argument that no matter what it looked like, a prison was still a prison if they couldn’t leave. As morbid and dark as it sounded, it was his best defense.
“Ready?” Augustus asked from beside him as they waited in the back room. “As I can be,” Thomas responded, concern lacing his words. This was it. If he wasn’t convincing enough, the entire kingdom would be against his decision. No pressure, really.
Thomas walked into the conference hall, acknowledging everyone in the vast room. The guests--mainly members of the local press and Audrillurian nobility--stood to welcome him and show him respect. Once he reached his place on the stage, everyone sat, waiting for him to begin.
“Fellow Audrillurians, I have invited you all here to discuss the recent robbery and recovery of the replica of our most prized possession. On the day of my coronation, the replica of the heart was stolen by a group of people working together to complete the heist successfully. Since that night, our guards have detained all ten individuals working in the castle’s staff that were involved in the heist. At first, we believed that the robbery was orchestrated by a small group of individuals. Once I confronted some of the people involved, however, I realized this was much bigger than we were expecting. Both individuals responsible for creating and acting upon the strategy confessed that they were pawns in the plan of a sinister woman that held them hostage for years. Upon further investigation, it was found that they were not the only ones. The same woman kept multiple children and made them into thieves as well, threatening to not feed them if they refused to steal or didn’t bring back enough. The children range from ages 5 through 12, all suffering the same abuse from the woman. The two individuals were threatened with further abusing the children had they not returned with the heart. The original target was the authentic Heart of Audrilluria, but the individual that was supposed to take the heart made the choice to take the replica instead. Their actions were taken with the discretion that came from the threats made on the children they felt responsible for. That, however, does not excuse the crimes committed against our kingdom. As punishment for impersonating an ally, falsifying an official response, leading an organized group of moles, and stealing from the royal vaults, all parties responsible shall spend the rest of their lives in Audrilluria, where they will abide by our laws and be held accountable according to our jurisdiction. At this moment I would like to open the discussion to any questions.”
A woman in the back row stood, “Your majesty, is it true that the individuals responsible for the robbery were impersonating the daughters of the Spanish Marquess, Antonio Bulevia de Santiago?” Thomas took in a shallow breath, “Those were the identities assigned to them by the woman that had them threatened, yes.” The woman began to write something down, “So you mean to say the woman you’d been closely in contact with before and during your coronation is responsible for the robbery of one of our most prized possessions?” His expression became stern. He should have known this was coming. “Yes. But it is because of my proximity that she had the confidence to confess to the truth. Both she and her sister are currently under guard surveillance and will remain that way until their sentences have been fulfilled.”
Another member of the press stood up, “Touching on the subject of their sentences, when was their trial held that their sentences have been decided?” “Because of the nature of their crimes, their trial will be held privately within the confines of the royal courtroom,” Thomas responded, “Their sentences have not been decided, but when they are, the public will be informed.”
“If the castle staff has been compromised in the past, how can we trust that it won’t happen again?” someone in the front row asked. Thomas fixed his posture, clearing his throat before he spoke, “We are a nation that learns from our mistakes and adapts for the future. This was a wake-up call. Our security is outdated and our vault must be reinforced. The protection of our kingdom depends now on change that will come quickly. The changes I plan to implement will serve to prevent something like this from happening again.”
Several questions later, the address ended. There was severe tension amongst the audience and Thomas had felt it since the beginning. He wasn’t expecting everyone to be on board after just one meeting. This, like many big changes, would take time. And fortunately, Thomas was a patient man. One who would stop at nothing to achieve the well being of his kingdom and his personal relationships.
“Would you care to explain what your plan is for the nation-wide acceptance of your future queen?” Charles asked in a sour tone. Thomas turned around to face him, “Unfortunately, I can’t. I made plans with Y/N and I have to find a way to ease the address into the conversation without causing her to worry.” Charles raised an eyebrow, “Your first date with her after everything and you’ll spoil it with that conversation?” Thomas shrugged, “She should know about this. Now if you excuse me, I have a lunch date with my future queen.”

Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter I; Simplicity
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince!Tom Hiddleston x Theif!Reader
Tumblr media
“Tell me again what we’re after?” Y/N asked for the umpteenth time since they arrived at the airport. After being in the airport for seemingly endless hours,Y/N and Amelia were almost to the entrance of the terminal. The airport, as usual, was crowded with people who'd spent an unbearable amount of hours there. Whether it was business, leisure, or family visits, everyone had somewhere to go. Simple people living simple lives. Y/N had almost forgotten what that looked like. Usually, when she traveled, it was to a specific place for a specific target. Today was no different.
This time around, they were boarding a flight to Blythenon, an Isle directly in the center of the North Sea. It’s only about 5,512mi sq.(about the size of Puerto Rico) and despite its relatively close distance to the United Kingdom, Norway, and Germany, it has its own government. The island has a population of about 3.254 million and is home to the Kingdom of Audrilluria. Even in the 21st century, people still ruled as kings and queens.
The benefit to this, in Y/N's eyes, is that instead of having to charm a rich man and take his money after a few distasteful dates, she had a specific target that required little to no up-close interaction with the Kingdom's nobility.
"We are after a necklace called the Heart of Audrilluria." Amelie reminded her with a snarky tone. "It's the crown jewel most valuable to the country. The necklace itself is worth more than $900 billion. There is a replica worth only half, but it's still substantial. The target is the authentic necklace, but if we can get our hands on the replica, it would be hard to tell it apart from the original." Y/N nodded, the wheels in her head turning. She already began to develop a plan to get to their target without creating suspicion to the presence of the supposed daughters of the Spanish Marquess.
"What's your plan?" Amelie asked, knowing the look on her sister's face all too well. "I'm working on it. So far, it's the same as always; find someone close enough to the target, form the false-bond, and wait for the perfect moment." Y/N replied, a hint of a smirk graced her features.
"Ah yes," Amelie teased, "The ol' reliable false-bond." She giggled, earning a playful glare from Y/N. "Hey," she retorted, "How many times has the false-bond made a job quick? How many times were other methods we've tried failed?" Amelie laughed once more. Every time they fight, the reliability of the false-bond somehow makes its way into the conversation.
"Ok, ok! Just don't let the false-bond plan keep you from boarding the plane," Amelie snorts as she walks past her sister to the entrance of the terminal.
Y/N sighs and starts to follow Amelie. This is the first time the target was worth more than a few million. This was a high-risk job that required more than just a false-bond approach. If any little thing were to go wrong, they were screwed for sure. If they failed, being permanently incarcerated in a foreign country was the very least of her worries. They had a lot more to lose than their own lives. The entirety of the flight would be spent devising plan A through Z and an "In case of Emergency" per plan.
This was going to be a long flight.

Prince Thomas William Hiddleston of Audrilluria, soon to be king. This single thought circled his mind endlessly as he looked at himself in the mirror. Dressed to the nines in his royal white and gold garments, he prepared himself, more mentally than physically, for the upcoming onslaught of questions from the press. This is something he should be used to, but there is more pressure on him now that his father, King James, is bestowing the throne to him.
It's not so say he was unprepared for the upcoming coronation. His father taught him all he needed to know. He simply felt that there were certain things he wouldn't experience. Amongst those were working an honest job, learning from personal mistakes, and truly falling in love. After he is crowned, there would be a high expectancy for him to find a queen. It would be rushed and not feel genuine.
Thomas sighed, looking away from the mirror to the window beside it. He was conflicted between the acceptance of responsibility that comes with the throne and longing for some sort of normalcy. Maybe it just wasn't for everyone.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. He turned to find that the person that interrupted him was none other than his beloved cousin, Charles.
"Am I catching you at a bad time," Charles asked making his way into the room. Thomas shook his head, "Not at all cousin. You know you are always welcome." Charles gives him a puzzled look, "Are you sure? Brooding while looking over your kingdom seems like something to be done in privacy. Are you practicing for when you become king?"
Thomas chuckled, shaking his head slightly. He walked up to his cousin and fixed the slightly messy tie from Charles's suit. "Is there a reason you're here, or are you simply making sure I haven't run away before I address the people?"
Charles smirks, "Actually yes, I'm making sure you don't run away to that life you dream of so fondly." He knew all too well that Thomas dreamed of the simple life he would never get the chance to experience on his own."I'm also here to inform you that we need to start making our way to the meeting room. You wouldn't want to make the press wait too long and begin to spread rumors!" Charles walked out of the room as suddenly as he came in, leaving Thomas alone once more.
"The rumors would be the very least of my worries today," Thomas said to the empty space his cousin once occupied. It was true that he wouldn't experience simplicity with his lifestyle. It's so odd how something so trivial could be seen as a luxury to him. He'd been in the spotlight all his life, so why was this just now bothering him?
Thomas shook his head, it was best he didn't think about such things now. He had to give his royal address regarding the next two weeks. He could think about that after the press. After all, two weeks was enough time to come to terms with his future arrangement as king. The next two weeks would be his final goodbye to the life he longed for since childhood.
For now, he had to put on a show for the media. They've waited long enough, he thought to himself as he finished the final touches on his garments before heading out the door. Let the show begin.

PREVIEW-- Life in Audrilluria Chapter 2
King!Tom Hiddleston x Thief!Reader
Tumblr media
Thomas stood, moving around the table towards her. He offered his hand for her to take, silently urging her to take it. Y/N lifted her head, finally looking up at him. “May I have this dance?” he asked, giving her that same look she fell for in the first place. Sighing, she took his hand unable to contain the smile that was slowly forming. Gently pulling her to her feet, Thomas wrapped her arms around her. He held her close as he looked deeply into her eyes, leading her to the rhythm of an imaginary song playing only in his head.

Designated Song: Hidden Feelings by Zara, Phoebe, and Lo

Ready to fall in love?

Removing the glass from her lips, Y/N swallowed the water nervously. It had been almost two years since she’d returned to Audrilluria with Thomas and today was the day they’d vow to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife. And if that wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, she’d also make her vows to be queen. Something she’d been rehearsing since the day Thomas proposed. Her dream man came with a package. A package that just so happened to include a country… And seven kids.
“I’m sweating like a pig in the desert,” Y/N complained, fanning herself with a notecard that contained her vows. “There’s no sweat, you’re fine,” Amelie comforted, “Now close your eyes, I need to make you look naturally beautiful for your husband to be.” Y/N closed her eyes, desperately trying to continue fanning herself before Amelie took the notecard from her hand. “It’s hot in here, I don’t want to sweat in my dress,” Y/N whined, keeping her eyes closed. “It’s not hot,” Amelie laughed as she continued to apply a natural-looking eyeshadow to Y/N’s lids, “You’re nervous. Honestly, if I was marrying a handsome, gentle, kind, and downright amazing king, I would be nervous too.” Y/N laughed mockingly, “You’ll find someone. Maybe not a king, but someone.”
Before Amelie had a chance to respond, the door opened and Augustus walked in. “How is the bride?” he asked excitedly, holding a clear, plastic box that contained the fresh flower bouquet. “The bride, if you must know, is anxious out of her mind,” Y/N replied as Amelie added the final touches to her eyeliner before reaching for the mascara. “You’ll be fine,” Augustus laughed as he set the bouquet down on the table near the sisters. “See,” Amelie began, finishing with Y/N’s makeup, “Gus and I both agree you’ll be fine. It’ll be fine. Besides, Tom loves you, pig sweat, and all.” Y/N rolled her eyes, looking over to the bouquet box to admire the freshly picked flowers. “So what did you decide on for my flowers?” she asked, looking over to Augustus. “Well,” he began, “Since I had to describe you love in flowers while sticking to the theme, I went for baby’s breath for the innocence of first love, white gardenias for the joy of the celebration, red roses for true love, pink roses for grace, ivory roses to represent your charm, and blush noisettes for a modern yet elegant touch. All flowers were picked from the garden.”
Y/N smiled, still admiring the bouquet, “I want to believe you looked up the meaning of flowers in preparation for the wedding.” Augustus gave her a proud smile, “Since Thomas showed me the ring he was going to use to propose with.” Y/N chuckled, looking down at the ring. The mock sapphire gem gleaming under the light of the sun. Her thoughts took her back to the day he proposed, the familiar feeling spreading from her stomach. She felt it every time she was around him, thinking about him, and every time they kissed. Love.
“When you’re done daydreaming,” Amelie teased, “Maybe you can finally tell me about the ring you’re staring at while I help you with your dress.” Y/N snapped out of her thoughts, standing to walk over to the panel divider to change out of her nightwear and into her wedding dress. “I’m curious too,” Augustus said, “Why the mock sapphire ring?” Whilst changing, Y/N explained behind the panel, “We all remember when I stole the heart’s replica. Well, I left the gemstone heart behind with a note for Thomas that said ‘Real or fake, this shouldn’t belong to me’, referring to the heart. When he brought the replica back, he had a professional jeweler change them again so that the replica could have the gem it originally came with. As for the one I had put in its place, I thought he threw it away. Apparently, he had this ring specially made with a piece of the mock sapphire as the center jewel of the rose. He had another piece of the mock sapphire embedded into his wedding band. The rose in my ring is a symbol of what we consider was our first date in the garden. The day he proposed, he told me ‘Real or fake, this heart belongs to you. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.’ And I knew I had to say yes.”
Amelie stared lovingly at her sister as she attached the veil to her hair. “He’s so sappy! I love it!” she said, taking a step back to admire her work, “And you look absolutely perfect.” Y/N walked out of the barrier created by the divider, allowing Augustus to see her. As soon as he laid eyes on her, his jaw dropped in astonishment. “You look absolutely radiant!” he complimented, almost at a loss for words. “Thank you, Gus,” Y/N smiled. Amelie walked to stand in front of her, “Ready to knock your goom out of his boots? Well, again?”
~~~~~~~~~~
Thomas stood in front of the altar with the archbishop and two best men by his side. His solid black traditional suit greatly contrasted with the brightness of the room. He was wearing his king crown for the special occasion. “Nervous?” Charles asked him teasingly. “Yes,” Thomas said simply, trying to distract himself by looking at everything in the room, making sure everything looked perfect. “So was Y/N,” Augustus said simply. “I lived with her for almost two years. I know everything about her life, everything she loves, everything she hates, every little thing about her and I am overtaken by the nerves and fear,” Thomas muttered, more to himself. “You’ll be fine, Tommy,” Charles comforted, “Feeling anxious is perfectly normal when you’re marrying the love of your life. Your parents felt it, my parents felt it, and hell, I’ll feel it when Augustus and I decide to get married.” Augustus looked over to him in shock, “When we wha-”
Music began to play as the double doors opened slowly. All three men straightened their posture and the best men took their respective places. The guests that crowded the room stood, turning to the doors as the royal children came into view. From the order of age, they began to walk down the aisle, Joey spreading the flower petals, Mikey walking close behind with the rings, Matias following in line in front of Alma, Allie, Daya, and Theodore. They took their places in the front seats reserved for family. At the very end of the hall, Y/N stood in her gorgeous dress and bouquet in hand. Her white dress was decorated with faux silver gems on top of the intricate lace, giving the dress a glowing feeling. She began her stride down the hall, joined by Amelie who agreed to give her away. Thomas looked to his wife-to-be in astonishment. She was as gorgeous as the day she first came to Audrilluria. She looked perfect, as always.
They reached the altar and Amelie took Y/N’s hand and put it in Thomas’s hand. “Take care of her, your highness,” Amelie whispered loud enough for him to hear. “I promise,” Thomas smiled, taking her hand and leading her up to the top of the altar. He continued to admire her beauty, now closer as Amelie took her place on Y/N’s right side, taking her bouquet. “You look absolutely divine,” Thomas whispered to her, leaning into her ear. “And you look regal, my love,” she responded with a smile. Both their nerves long forgotten as they stared deeply into each other’s eyes.
“Dearly beloved family, friends, and guests,” the archbishop began, “We are here today to celebrate the union between our king and his beloved. I have been informed that objections will not be allowed, so I shall move on with the sermon.” Y/N’s eyes widened slightly as she giggled, turning to Thomas. Thomas simply winked, giving her that all too familiar smirk before focussing on the archbishop’s words.
“As a promise of eternal love, the bride and groom will now speak their vows as they accept their rings,” the archbishop spoke. Mikey approached Charles, giving him the rings before returning to his place. Thomas and Y/N faced each other, holding hands. “My dearest Y/N,” Thomas began, looking deeply into her eyes, “From the moment I laid eyes on you, the only thought in my mind was how beautiful and free-spirited you were. I was instantly captivated by your very presence. You took my breath away from the very start and I wanted nothing more than to be by your side always. I found myself thinking about you at every given moment. I was captivated by your smile, your eyes, the way you laughed, the way you carried yourself, and every little thing about you. I knew from the start, I needed to be with you. Even after everything that happened after I first met you, I felt the need to forgive. I knew that if I didn’t have you by my side, I would never forgive myself. I knew that despite everything, I needed to be with you. So from that moment on, I decided to not let you go. And I promise now, with everyone here to witness, I will never let you go.” He placed the ring on Y/N’s finger as he finished speaking. The archbishop nodded to Y/N, signaling it was her turn.
“Thomas, my love,” she began, “There are so many things I could say to you that I’ve said before. I could describe how much I love you or how much you changed me, but I want to tell you something I’ve never said aloud. When we first met, I couldn’t meet your eyes because I knew I’d get lost in those beautiful blue orbs. Every time you spoke, I felt butterflies and a part of me wished it was directed to me. I fell for you slowly and it scared me because I never even dreamed of. Every little thing about you took my breath away and whenever you looked at me from a distance, time just froze. I was terrified to tell you what I felt because I knew you deserved so much more than I could ever be. When you went looking for me and showed me the hope in your eyes, I allowed myself to show what I feel. I was certain we would never end up together, but you changed that. And now, I’m overjoyed that from this day on, you will call me your wife.” She took his wedding band and placed it on his finger.
“Do you, King Thomas, take Y/N to be your wife?” Thomas smiled brightly, “I do.”
“And do you, Y/N L/N, take Thomas to be your husband?” Y/N mimicked his smile, “I do.”
“Before this ceremony continues, I ask that the bride prepare to speak the vows to Audrilluria,” the archbishop commanded. Y/N let go of Thomas’s hands and made her way down the steps of the altar to the majordomo, who was holding the Orb of Unity and Mercy and the Scepter of Leadership and Justice. She took both in her hands as the archbishop spoke, “Speak your vows as you look upon the people of this kingdom.” Y/N took a deep breath, eyes scanning the room as she began, “I, Y/N L/N, solemnly swear to help my husband lead our kingdom with a firm but gentle hand. I promise to be loyal to Audrilluria as well as to the king. I will help him with the responsibilities that come with leadership and take an equal part in it.” The archbishop then commanded, “Take your place by the king’s side and finish your vows.” Y/N walked up the steps again and stood in front of Thomas, still holding the royal items. “On this day, I vow my loyalty to my husband, to Audrilluria, and to its legacy. On this day, I vow to be a fair queen.” she finished.
The majordomo walked up to her and took the royal items from her hands. “You may crown your queen,” the archbishop told Thomas. Y/N bowed slightly as Thomas took the crown from Augustus’s hands and placed the ruby-encrusted, gold crown gently on her head. Y/N stood up again and took Thomas’s hands in hers as the archbishop announced, “With vows spoken and unity made, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Thomas almost didn’t wait for him to finish before he wrapped his arms around Y/N’s waist and pulled her in for a deep, passionate kiss. The guests stood and cheered for the couple, though they were focussed on each other.
When they finally parted, the archbishop announced, “I present to all, Thomas and Y/N Hiddleston, king, and queen of Audrilluria.” The cheers resumed as the couple looked around the room at their people. Thomas turned to Y/N with a smirk, “Ready to move on, my love?” Y/N looked to him in confusion, recognizing that mischievous smirk, “What are you plann--”
Thomas lifted her suddenly, carrying her bridal-style down the aisle and through the entrance doors. The people and press outside began to take pictures and cheer at the sight of the couple. Y/N laughed as Thomas set her down again, allowing her to rush down the steps with him with Augustus, Charles, and Amelie following close behind. They made it to their carriage and got in, preparing for the long photoshoot to come.
~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was close to setting as the reception was in full swing. The guests danced and mingled as they waited for the king and queen to have their first dance. The music faded, signaling that it was time for the dance. The dance area cleared as Thomas and Y/N made their way to the center. A soft, orchestral song began to play and Y/N recognized it instantly. “This is the same song we first danced to,” she inquired, facing her husband. Husband. “I wanted to recreate the moment I realized I never wanted to let you go,” Thomas responded, a smile gracing his lips as they began to dance.
They swayed around the room, eyes permanently fixed on each other as their movements synced effortlessly. The same feeling that embraced them the first time they danced returned, this time stronger now that their love was made known. It was only them in the room with the music. Everything else faded away and they felt as if they danced on a cloud. The song came to an end as Thomas spun Y/N, bringing her closer to him as they came to a full stop. Taking the opportunity, Y/N leaned in and pressed a small, loving kiss to his lips. The guests cheered, making their presence known once more.
“It’s time,” Amelie reminded, coming up to them with the bouquet in her hand. Y/N took it as some of the guests began to gather to try to catch it. Once everyone was ready, Y/N turned away and tossed it over her shoulder. After hearing them shuffle for a moment, she turned to see Charles holding the bouquet over his head proudly as he looked in the direction of Augustus. Thomas and Y/N turned to see a surprised, yet happy Augustus standing on the other side of them. They laughed softly as the guests began to crowd the dance area once more.
“I believe it’s time for something else, my love,” Thomas whispered in Y/N’s ear. She looked up at him excitedly as he took her hand and began to lead her through the corridors of their home. They climbed up the stairs and made their way to the all-too-familiar office. Thomas opened the door, allowing his wife to enter before him. Wife. They reached the balcony doors and went inside. As they were walking in, lanterns began to illuminate the sky. Being the sappy gentleman he was, Thomas decided to marry Y/N on the day of Rosamund’s Celebration, two years after he realized he loved her. They looked out into the sky illuminated by lanterns, enjoying one another’s company. Suddenly, Y/N turned to face him, “Here’s to a lifetime by your side.” Thomas gave her a bright smile, “And to the future that we’ll make together.” With that, he leaned in and captured her lips in yet another passionate and gentle kiss.
In that moment, both of them realized that their deepest dreams had come true.

A/N: It’s been one hell of a ride. Throughout the course of this story, I kept falling in love with this idea over and over again.[Also, for your vows, I added pieces of the designated song] So much so that I decided to not let go just yet. Coming in June, I will release kind of a sequel series to this called Life in Audrilluria. Basically, it will describe what happened in the almost two years leading up the wedding (including the engagement). I will post an announcement with the exact day the series will start by the end of this month. Until then, I want to introduce oneshots and Imagines into my works. I will post a few oneshots starting Wednesday if you are interested. I just want to ask you to let me know what characters/celebs/fandoms you want to see. Anyway, Thank you all so friggen much for all the support you’ve shown me. Honestly, you guys are the reason I kept it going for 21 chapters. I love you all so much and I’ll see you on Wednesday for more exciting content. I hope all is well, stay safe, and I’ll see you in June for the sequel!!

The sun shone through the open cracks of the wood boarded window. The sun was out, it had to be around six in the morning. That meant Vie still wasn’t awake. Y/N stood up in her small bed, looking around the room at the partially lit room at the decaying walls. Turning to her left, she looked over to Amelie’s sleeping form. “Hey,” she whispered, “We have to go.” Amelie stirred in her sleep, “Five more minutes.” Y/N got up from her bed, taking a step towards her and shaking her awake. “For a morning person, you’re kind of lazy,” Y/N teased, pulling the covers off her. “For a brokenhearted person, you’re not mopey and sad,” Amelie groaned, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. “I’m not mopey and sad because I’ve come to terms with never seeing him again,” Y/N replies, turning away to get her things ready, “Yes it hurts, but I have to get over it some day. I hurt him. I’m not surprised if he never wants to see me again.” Amelie sighs, giving her a sympathetic look.
“I know it hurts,” Amelie comforted, “I hear you crying at night. I’m so sorry for how this turned out.” Y/N looks back at her, shaking her head, “Don’t be. It’s not your fault. I shouldn’t have gotten too close.” Amelie gave her one last soft expression before standing up and getting ready for the day.
“So, where are we headed?” Amelie asked, walking out into the hall to the door. “We are going to the handler to get the pay for the necklace,” Y/N responded, walking through the door frame and leaving the house. “I don’t suppose we’re taking the car,” Amelie muttered as they walked toward the street, beginning their trip to the person that would give them the money they needed for the stolen relic. “Nope,” Y/N replied smugly, “It’s not that far a walk. Besides, we need to burn off all the pastries we ate in paradise.” Amelie sighed longingly, catching up with her sister, “They tasted like heaven.” Y/N chuckled as they continued walking down the street.
The handler was waiting for them in a restaurant five blocks away from the hell house they grew up in. They should arrive fifteen minutes after they’d left the house. “He said he’ll be waiting for us at the furthest table from the door. He’s wearing a sky blue button up. We can’t miss him,” Y/N explained, keeping a relatively fast pace as they made their way to the restaurant, holding a secure bag containing the necklace. “Ok, perfect,” Amelie nodded, “While we walk, how about we have a conversation.” Y/N turned to look at her in confusion, “About what?”
“About him,” Amelie proposed, still looking out in front of her towards the busy street. Y/N slowed her steps at her words. Here we go. “I know you don’t want to get into specifics, but you can talk to me about it,” Amelie tried, slowing down with her. Y/N let out a sigh, “What do you want me to say? I practically told you everything earlier.” Amelie shrugged, “Maybe you can tell me how it felt? Before having to end things. How did it feel to be in love for the first time?” Y/N looked away, trying to find the right  words to use. “It was,” she began, stopping herself to think for a moment, “It was wonderful. The way we danced on both occasions was something I can’t even begin to explain. It just felt.. Magical. I never thought I could lose sight of a job’s objective, but when I was with him, I lost track of everything and just delved into those sweet moments,” she explained in a yearning tone, “When I was with him, I felt as if I was more than just a thief. I felt that for once in my life, I could be truly and unconditionally happy. It was something I had never felt before.” Y/N looked down at her feet, the realization settling in, “And it’s something I know I’ll probably never feel again.” Amelie gave her another sad smile, “It sounds nice.”
“It was nice,” Y/N whispered, “It was nice and so much more.” Amelie put her left hand on Y/N’s right shoulder, “At least one of us was able to experience it.”
They continued their trip in a comfortable silence. Upon arriving at their destination, they were approached by a police officer before they could get close to the door. “Excuse me ladies,” he began, stopping them from going any further, “Are you by any chance the L/N sisters?” Amelie and Y/N looked at each other in confusion, not wanting to respond to his question in fear something had gone wrong. “I think you have us confused with someone else,” Y/N replied dismissively, trying to get out of that situation as quickly as possible. The officer’s partner approached them, taking out a paper and showing it to them, revealing their pictures with their names. “Lying to an officer is not a good idea,” he warned, “Would you like to try again?” Both sisters had a matching face of shock. What was this about?
“We’re going to need you to come with us,” the first officer began, “Someone has been looking for the two of you.” Amelie straightened her posture, “And if we choose not to come peacefully?” The second officer gave her a look and brought out his cuffs, “Then I’m afraid we’ll have to arrest the two of you.” The sisters shared a look, thinking about their next course of action carefully.
~~~~~~~~~~
After about five minutes of driving, they arrived at the police station and parked in front of the entrance. Both girls were led out by one of the officers and taken inside. They walked down the hall where they were met by another two officers, one with a pair of handcuffs and the other asking for the bag Y/N was carrying. The handcuffs were placed on their wrists and they were led to the door of the interrogation room. Once the door was opened, Y/N’s heart dropped to her knees and she almost collapsed.
Standing next to a detective was the very man she never expected to see again. The man she’d fallen in love with in Audrilluria. The man whose heart she broke. “Have a seat, ladies,” the detective instructed. Both girls took their respective seats, Y/N unable to take her eyes off of Thomas. She felt that if she looked away for even half a second, he would disappear. “I’m sure both of you know why you are here,” the detective began, “And I’m sure both of you know who this is.”  He motioned to Thomas, who’s expression was of anger and determination. His eyes went back and forth between both sisters, not daring to look into Y/N’s eyes for too long.
“You might be wondering how you were found,” the detective continued, “Apparently, one of your moles by the name of Edmundo wasn’t able to make it off Blythenon before her was apprehended.” Amelie looked up at the detective, placing her cuffed hands on the table in front of her. “So you know we have it,” she stated, deciding not to play dumb. “Of course we do,” he shrugged, “What his highness wants to know is why.”
“If his highness wants to know so badly, he should ask us himself,” Amelie snapped, turning to look Thomas in the eye. Thomas merely shifted his weight, folding his arms across his chest as he leaned into the wall behind him. “How many more people did you have working for you in the castle?” Thomas asked in a deep, darkened tone. “We don’t know,” Amelie replied simply, “They worked for Edmundo, not for us.” Thomas turned to Y/N, who never looked away from him for a second.
“What were your true intentions?” He asked, maintaining the same tone as before. “I think our intentions were pretty obvious,” Amelie snarked. “I wasn’t asking you,” Thomas raised his voice, “I was asking your currently mute sister.” Y/N flinched at his slight change. He turned to her again, giving her an expectant look. Y/N’s eyes began to form small tears. “Thomas, I--,” she choked out, “My intentions were never to hurt you.” Thomas straightened his posture, his expression changing briefly before going back to one of anger before Y/N could decipher what it was. “Take Ms. Amelie to another room,” He instructed the detective without taking his eyes off of Y/N, “I need a moment alone with her.”
The detective followed his order wordlessly and exited the room with Amelie, leaving them alone in a tense silence. The way Thomas was looking at her made her feel weak in the worst way possible. She couldn’t take knowing that the man she’d known to be cheerful and positive most of the time was enraged by something she did. Everything he was feeling was because of her.
“Please just say something,” Y/N pleaded, trying desperately to get any reaction from him. Thomas merely leaned his hands on the table, lowering his head slightly. “Like what?” he asked in a harsher tone than before, “Should I confess to you only to have you break my heart again, or should I save myself the trouble?” Y/N let out a desperate sigh, “I didn’t mean to hurt you! I didn’t want to do this to you but I didn’t have a choice!”
“There’s always a choice, Y/N!” he yelled, “Just spare me the trouble and tell me the truth!” “You want the truth?” Y/N asked, a few tears falling from her eyes, “Fine. I was an orphan all my life. My parents died when Amelie and I were children. We were left alone on the streets because no one wanted to take us in. This woman took us to what we thought was going to be our new home. She raised us to be thieves and when we were old enough to fight back, she threatened to hurt other children she took in to make us pay!” The room fell into silence as Y/N spoke the last word. “If I didn’t steal the heart, Vie would have left seven children out in the streets to suffer,” she cried.
Thomas stood from his position, looking away briefly as Y/N tried to regain herself. Another long moment of silence passed as Thomas thought of what to say next. “Did you mean it?” he asked, still not looking at her, “Did you mean anything you said to me?” Y/N gave him a pained smile, “Of course I did. I meant every word I said to you. I meant what I wrote to you on the night of the coronation. I wanted to be with you. I wanted to stay.” Thomas turned back to her in mild surprise, tears of his own forming in his eyes. “I wanted nothing more than to be with you for the rest of my life. I still want that,” Y/N confessed, tears running down her cheeks, “I want to be with you because I’m in love with you.”
Thomas took a breath, looking away as a single tear stained his now solemn face. He stayed looking towards the door for a long moment. Y/N was prepared for his rejection. She knew he was hurt and frankly she didn’t blame him if he decided to walk out and never look back. But having him make any decision and make it known to her was better than dealing with the crippling, uncertain silence that fell upon them again.
“Y/N L/N, “Thomas began, “You have stolen from my kingdom and used some of my people against me.” Y/N closed her eyes, letting her head drop to her shoulders. “You have betrayed Audrilluria and impersonated a member of Audrilluria’s council of allies. For that, I sentence you and your sister to life in Audrilluria for your multiple crimes against my kingdom.” He took a step closer to her, catching her attention and making her look up. “Your sister will be sentenced to serving the people of Audrilluria in any way I see fit. As for you, I sentence you to spend the rest of your life by my side.”
Y/N looked at him in a mixture of confusion and hope. “You and your sister will return with me to Blythenon where you will begin your sentence immediately after you set foot on Audrillurian soil. For the rest of your life, you’re mine.” Y/N lost her breath, unable to completely process what he was saying. She stood from her seat, cheeks still stained with the continuous flow of tears. She gave him a wide smile before he approached her with a softer look in his eyes. “For the rest of your life,” he whispered, holding her chin up with his index finger and thumb, “You will stay by my side and be my queen. Only then will you be pardoned for your crimes.” He leaned in and pressed a gentle, but needy kiss to her soft lips. The lips he craved for so long. The lips that were finally his to claim forever. Y/N melted into the kiss, bringing her cuffed hands up to his face as he wrapped his free arm around her waist. A surge of passion enveloped them as the kiss lasted longer than the ones they shared previously.
When the need for air became too much to ignore, they pulled away, keeping each other within reach. “You and I will leave for Audrilluria this afternoon, along with Amelie and the children you have protected.” Thomas whispered as he stared deep into her eyes. Y/N pulled away further, “What about Vie?”
“That woman will be locked up for everything she has done. As king, I have enough influence to make that happen quicker,” Thomas reassured, still holding onto his love. Y/N smiled lovingly, “So what now?” Thomas pulls away, taking out a key and unlocking her handcuffs to free her, “Now, we pack your things, Amelie’s things, the replica, and prepare the children to leave for Audrilluria and never come back to this life.” Y/N rubbed her wrists before wrapping her arms around his neck. “I like that plan.”
Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter XVII; Bitter Reality
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince King!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Tumblr media
  The jet’s door opened welcoming both sisters back to the solemn reality they’d always known. Stepping out, they made their way to the car waiting for them on the other side of the landing platform of the private airport. As they walked side-by-side with their luggage in their hands, Y/N looked over to Amelie. “So we’re back,” she uttered weakly. Amelie gave her a cold glare, briefly before turning back to the car in front of them. “I refuse to speak to you until our little problem is fixed,” Amelie replied bitterly. They continued to walk in silence, nearing their ride with every step. As soon as they reached the car, Y/N opened the door to the back seat, allowing Amelie to enter first. The driver took their luggage and put it in the trunk. Once inside, the car started and their drive began. It wasn’t the limo they were used to, but they had to accept the fact that they were no longer in Audrilluria. After yesterday, it became a distant memory.
They rode in silence for about five minutes before Y/N turned to Amelie, “We have to talk about this eventually.” Amelie sighed, looking away from the window and glaring at Y/N. “What do you want to talk about? The fact that you decided to steal the replica? Or that you broke the necklace and left the jewel? Or maybe you want to talk about the fact that we now have to pay someone $10,000 to replace something you had in your grasp but decided to leave behind because you couldn’t do that to the love of your life. Which do you want to talk about, dearest sister?” she spat.
“Ok look,” Y/N started, “it wasn’t my fault the replica broke as I was putting it in the carrier bag. I’m not responsible for making a weak bracket that caused the gem to fall out.” Amelie’s eyes widened in a hateful surprise. “And what about the rest?” she almost yelled, “What about you getting attached? Was that not your fault too?”
“Yes!” Y/N cried out, loud enough to make the driver flinch slightly. “That is my fault. Because for a moment, a small blissful moment, I thought I could be more than that poor orphan that was forced to steal from people for a slice of bread everyday. For once, I thought that I could just be normal and experience normal things.”
Amelie sighed heavily. She shook her head and turned to look at the window. “I don't want to do this now. Let’s just get to Andrew’s and get this over with.” Y/N let her head drop, giving up. They continued their ride in complete silence, each sister having their own drowning thoughts that made the silence tense.
Their ten minute drive finally came to an end, reaching their handler’s place. The car came to  a complete stop and both sisters got out. “We’ll be in there for a few minutes. Keep the engine running,” Y/N said to the driver before making her way to the door, Amelie following close behind. Opening the door and stepping in, Y/N made her way to the furthest display case in the jewelry store. Amelie rang the bell and they waited for Andrew.
“Sorry, we’re closed today due to a family emergency,” Andrew hollered from the backroom on the other side of the display case. “This is a family emergency,” Y/N replied. They heard shuffling before Andrew appeared in the doorway of the backroom. “Well, well, well,” he began, “If it isn’t the infamous L/N sisters. Where’s the heart?” “It’s nice to see you too,” Amelie spoke in a sarcastic tone, “And the heart is in  Audrilluria. What we have is the incomplete replica.”
Y/N put the bag she’d been carrying on the display case. She opened it, revealing the well kept replica that was missing the blue heart. Even without its center jewel, it was beautiful. Andrew marveled in its beauty before picking it up to examine the missing piece. He looked at every detail carefully, taking in the craftsmanship and already forming ideas in his head. After a moment, he spoke “The jewels are sapphire replicas and the chain is steel painted to look like gold. The brackets are a bit weak, which is what caused one to break so easily. All in all, the necklace was made to be displayed, not worn. I can fix this within 24 hours and it will look good as new.”
“I knew  you could get this done,” Y/N praised, “We’ll see you tomorrow with the $10,000 ready.” Both sisters turned to leave, walking the same path they took to meet with Andrew. Exiting the shop, they made their way back to the car and got in. "I really hope this works," Amelie commented as they drove off, "Otherwise Vie will kill us both."
“They’re here!”
Y/N and Amelie got out of the car only to be attacked by a swarm of seven children hugging their legs, pulling their arms, and jumping up and down excited for their return. “Hey guys!” Amelie smiled as the driver took their luggage out of the trunk. “We missed you so much!” a brown haired, green eyed boy exclaimed. All of the children that surrounded them were between the ages of five and twelve. They were the kids that weren’t lucky enough to end up in an actual orphanage. Y/N and Amelie were the oldest. This was home.
“Mother Vie is waiting for you,” said a small voice coming from six year-old Michael. “We’ll go in a moment, Mikey,” Y/N said softly, internally dreading the moment they have to face that wretched witch. Their luggage was handed to them, but quickly taken away by the older children as they insisted they could take it. Hesitantly, they made their way through the dry leaves covering the floor and approached the old house that seemed to be falling apart a little more each day. One of the columns holding up the roof of the porch was almost completely leaning out of place. The majority of the windows were either broken or replaced with a wooden plank. It looked as if no one was living there. No one should be living there. Especially not children.
They made their way up to the stair-less porch and climbed up an old, wooden box they’d use to get inside. The box itself was almost as worn as the house. They walked up to the door and Amelie knocked as hard as she could. Y/N stood next to her, waiting for Mother Vie to open the door for them. She looked up at the hole in the ceiling. She could see what was once the house’s balcony. The Balcony. She shook her head, not wanting to return to her grieving state.
The door swung open, revealing an older woman dressed in clothes that looked maybe a few days old. “My girls!” She exclaimed, opening her arms seemingly to hug them. “Mother Vie,” they both responded bitterly. Vie stepped aside to let them in, still keeping that bright smile that had mysteriously appeared on her face when she saw them. They walked through the old, worn out house with broken furniture that barely stood and uncleaned floors and walls.
Hell. They’d returned to hell.
“How was Audrilluria?” she asked, stopping in front of a seemingly newly purchased recliner and sitting down. “It was an experience,” Amelie said in the same tone as before. Vie shook her head, still keeping the unsettling smile from earlier, “I’m sure the entire time you were gone, you were missing home!” Home. Is that what this is?
The sisters just smiled forcibly. They didn’t want to be here again. Especially not with her. She was the one that picked them up from off the streets and took every opportunity she had to remind them about it. She was the one that forced them to become thieves. She was the reason behind years of hell and torture.
“May we get to our room?” Y/N asked after a moment, “It was a long flight and we’re both exhausted.” Vie laughed, “Of course! We’ll talk about the pay at dinner. Tonight, everyone eats. Only to celebrate your success!” Both sisters gave her a false grateful smile before almost rushing to their room. The children were already waiting for them inside with their luggage.
The room was small enough to be considered a small closet. For furniture, there were only two twin beds, two dressers, and a single broken mirror. Nothing  compared to their suite in Audrilluria.
“Tell us about the fairytale kingdom!” Mikey exclaimed, sitting on the floor with his legs crossed. The other children began to chant in agreement. “Ok, ok,” Amelie gave in, making them quiet down. “I won’t tell you all the adult stuff,” she began, giving a smirk in Y/N’s direction, “But I will tell you that Y/N fell in love with her charming prince.” The younger children began to squeal while the older children looked in a mix of disgust and awe. Y/N turned to give Amelie a look of sadness mixed with surprise. “Can you tell us about it?” Mikey asked eagerly. “No,” Y/N dismissed softly, “I can’t talk about that.” Amelie smiled to her, “Oh come on Y/N. Please!” The children followed her lead and soon, she gave in.
“Ok, fine,” she said, sitting on the bed next to her suitcase. “His name is Thomas. He’s the nicest, most lovable person I’d ever met,” Y/N recounted, “He is well spoken and sweet and I fell for him so fast.” The children listened eagerly from their places on the floor. “How well spoken is he?” one of the older children, Daya, asked eagerly. “Well,” Y/N thought for a moment, “I have a note he sent me in my bag.” Suddenly, they began to chant for her to read the note. Y/N rolled her eyes, reaching into her bag and taking out the note. She began to read;  “Dearest Y/N, I hope you can accompany me to the gardens this afternoon to continue to establish our friendship. I didn’t see much of you yesterday and would like to make it up today. Please meet me in the Gardens. In the same place I showed you the first time.”
The room resonated with “aw’s” coming from everyone, even Amelie. “How did you meet him?” ten year old Allie asked. “Well,” Y/N began, a tear slowly forming in her eye as she remembered everything that happened. “When we arrived at the castle, he and his family were waiting for us.”---
~~~~~~~~~~
“Thomas, you can’t keep avoiding us,” Charles called into the office where Thomas stood leaning over a desk, looking at a stack of papers with the information of all the employees that worked in the castle. “I’m not avoiding anyone,” he responded, not sparing him a single glance, “I’m doing my job as king.” Charles sighed, stepping further into the office, “Well you could at least notify me of your game plan.” Thomas fixed his posture, standing up straight and motioning to the papers. “These are the resumes of all the employees that work or have worked in the castle. I’m going through them to look for anything that seems out of place. I know for a fact she didn’t work alone. If my hunch is right, someone in this stack of resumes knows who she really is and where to find her,” he explained.
“I thought you said you never wanted to see her again,” Charles questioned, eyeing the papers. “I don’t,” Thomas replied simply, “I’m merely doing my job as king. She stole from Audrilluria and I intend to lock her up for it. My past personal attachment has nothing to do with this. She is a criminal and she must pay for her crimes against my kingdom.” Charles looked at him in surprise. He’d thought for sure Thomas would still be broken about all this. How much does someone’s heart have to break in order for them to put aside their feelings and focus on making them pay? With the way Thomas was acting, he was sure he’d find out soon enough.

Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter XVI; King
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince King!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Warnings: Angst, King POV, suspense
Tumblr media
“So I believe that in the future, the alliance between our countries will continue to grow and both our people will prosper now that you are king,” the older earl concluded. Thomas was dragged into a conversation that droned on for the past ten minutes. A conversation that was in no means urgent and could have waited for after he spent his precious time convincing the love of his life that they should pursue a relationship. It was painful. “You make an excellent point sir,” Thomas said politely, desperately hoping to end the conversation there and then. He needed to get back to her. He needed to be with her. “Thank you, your highness,” the earl smiled proudly, “I see your eyes wandering. I’ll let you enjoy your party. After all, it is your night.” Thomas thanked him quickly before making his way through the crowd, eyes always searching her.
He walked around aimlessly, looking for Y/N’s face in the sea of guests in the ballroom. Every Time he made eye contact with someone, he was disappointed that the eyes he met weren’t hers. He continues to search for her, growing more frustrated as the time passes by. Growing more frustrated each time he looks around the room unsuccessful. Thomas stopped for a moment, standing near the bar. He began to look around the room from a still position. After a moment, he realized he wouldn’t find her standing still. He resumed his pace around the room, considering going up to the balcony in case she was still waiting for him up there.
It’s been about twenty minutes, he thought, surely she must be down here by now. Maybe she was talking to Amelie. Maybe she was outside because she felt that it was too stuffy in doors. Wherever she was, he needed to find her. Wherever she was, she needed to know he lov--
Thomas’s thoughts were interrupted by a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Augustus and Charles giving him proud smiles. Strange proud smiles. “Your majesty,” Charles bowed playfully, Augustus following his lead. Thomas gave them a heavy sigh, turning back to continue his search for Y/N. “Not now, I’m a bit occupied at the moment,” he replied bitterly. Charles and Augustus looked at each other in confusion. “But you called for us,” Augustus almost asked. Thomas perked up at his words, turning to his friend in confusion. He never called for them. He never even thought about having someone find them for him.
“I did not,” he muttered in confusion. The men exchanged confused looks as they tried to figure out what happened to cause this. “You asked the footman to fetch us because you wanted to talk,” Charles said, trying to understand what exactly was going on. “I haven’t spoken to anyone but one of the earls,” Thomas explained, still not understanding why they thought he asked someone to call for them. “There has to be some mistake then,” Augustus reasoned. “Who told the two of you I was looking for you?” Thomas asked, wanting to get to the bottom of whatever was going on. First Y/N disappears, now this? “It was a footman,” Augustus spoke, looking around to find and point to the footman that led him in Thomas’s direction. He was unable to find said footman and his confusion grew.
“Well, whatever is going on, help me find her,” Thomas dismissed. He began to walk around again, this time with Charles and Augustus following close behind. “I thought that you would have convinced her by now,” Charles questioned, struggling to keep up with Thomas’s pace. “I was going to, but right as I was leani-- I was interrupted,” Thomas explained, eyes searching the room to see that emerald dress and loose curls. There weren't too many people in the room, and rarely anyone wore green. This shouldn’t be as hard as it was. Unless she wasn’t in the ballroom.
Thomas stopped suddenly, turning to face both men following him. “Where were the two of you when the footman approached you?” he asked in an urgent tone. “We were near the door facing the driveway,” Augustus explained, “But why does that matt--” “Was there anyone else there?” Thomas interrupted. “No,” Charles confirmed. Thomas looked away for a moment, thinking of all the places he didn’t look.
Upstairs. Thomas rushed out of the ballroom at an even faster pace, with Charles and Augustus barely able to keep up with him. Reaching the stairs he brought Y/N to earlier in the evening. He began the climb up to the second floor, Charles and Augustus still following close behind the hurried man. Once he’d reached the top of the stairs, he made his way down the hall to the office where he thought she would be waiting.
Thomas stopped his fast paced trudge when his eyes caught a group of security guards and footman surrounding the door of the guarded room. Bewildered by this strange occurrence, he approached them cautiously. “What happened?” he questioned, looking to one of the security guards. “The guards assigned to the room abandoned their post,” the guard explained to him. Thomas gave him a look of horror. “Do we know who it was?” Charles asked, having listened to what the guard told his cousin. “We are not sure, but the replica is missing. We’re in the process of locking down the castle,” he declared. Thomas began to walk to the door of the room, reaching to turn the doorknob and walk in. He began to examine the room, noticing nothing other than the replica’s absence. He walked deeper into the room, still examining everything he could to see if anything led him to a suspect. Charles entered the room after Thomas, walking past him to the furthest side of the room. Thomas was in a partial shock. He’d originally came up here to look for Y/N, but what he found was something he’d hoped would never happen.
“Thomas,”Charles began, catching his attention and causing him to turn to where Charles stood in front of the desk. “They left a note. And something else.” Thomas hurried over to where his cousin stood. Looking at the note scribbled onto a small piece of paper that looked to be tor from a bigger page. He picked it up to open it, causing the item rolled inside the note to slip out.
It was the sapphire heart copy from the replica. He took it in his left hand while still holding on to the paper in his right. Thomas unfolded the paper and read the message inside. Suddenly, he dropped both items, losing his balance and having to lean on the desk for support. No, it couldn’t. SHE couldn’t. He looked back down at the note, reading it over and over in his head. No matter how much he wanted to be delusional, no matter how much he wanted this to not be real, he couldn’t change the words written on the small slip of paper.
“Real or fake, this shouldn’t belong to me.”
Thomas felt like he couldn’t breathe. All that time, trying to convince her they were good together. All that time promising he would be there for her. All that time, and this is why she was here. This is why she stayed with him. Not because of anything she felt. But because she wanted to steal from him. His heart stopped beating for a moment. The entire time he knew her, she was only here for the necklace.
“Thomas!” Charles called to him, “What is it? What does it say?” Thomas didn’t look up at him, he didn’t speak, and he didn’t look away from the note. Taking in a few breaths, he slammed his hand onto the note and harshly slid it in his cousin’s direction. He couldn’t be in that room. His emotions were starting to betray him.
Suddenly, he stood up from his position and stormed out of the room towards the balcony. He didn't stop when the guards called to him. He didn’t stop when Augustus asked what was wrong. He just kept walking towards the one place he needed to be. Once he reached the door to the office, he swung it open powerfully. He stormed inside and made his way to the door leading to the balcony. He opened those doors in a similar manner, walking inside and looking down at the railing. Thomas let the majority of his weight fall unto his elbows as they settled on the concrete.
This couldn’t be happening. This was a misunderstanding. He would see her later tonight and she would have no idea of what was happening. She was completely innocent, she had to be. As much as Thomas tried to convince himself that this was some funny coincidence, a part of him deep down felt like he’d already known the truth. She’s a thief, a part of him thought, she just used you to get what she wanted.
She never felt the same for you.
Thomas let tears fall freely down his face. How could this happen? Why would she do this? The only woman he ever truly loved and she betrays him like this. Why? Was he not enough? Did she not feel anything for him? Was she ever interested in him?
Thomas shook his head, allowing more tears to fall from his face. She used him. And he let her. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to confront her. A part of him wants to know the truth from her side. But another part wants to never see her again. Even if it hurts him more than this.

Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter XIV; The Coronation
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Warning: Slight Angst!
Tumblr media
The soft, calming aura of the room heavily contrasted the restless thoughts that ran through Y/N’s mind. It was the morning of the coronation which meant a number of things. First, she’d have to say goodbye to whatever was going on between her and Thomas. Then there was having to go back to the living hell she’d lived in before this absolute fairytale began. That, and she was going to be a criminal in the eyes of the man she’d come to love. Love? Is that what it felt like? Internally sobbing, she began to think back on everything that happened in the past two weeks. It hurt to even think about how much she wanted to stay. For Him. She remembered what he told her the day he confessed to her; “I want to know you! I want to spend time with you. I want to know the things you love and the things you hate. I want to look at the sunset with you in my arms. I want to spend every day knowing I can come home to you. I want to stay here with you by my side and enjoy life. I want to escape all my problems with you. I want you.”
She wanted him too.
But he was too good for her. He deserved someone better. Someone that wouldn’t steal from him or lie to him the way she did. Someone that wasn’t her.
A loud ringing interrupted her thoughts. Already fully awake, she had no trouble getting up to answer the phone. Reaching to answer it, she hesitated slightly. It’s too soon. Snapping herself out of her thoughts, she brought the phone up to her ear and answered with a quiet ‘hello’. “Good morning, Lady Santiago. I presume your plans for today are ready?” Edmundo asked in his normal overly excited tone of voice for the mornings. “Yes, we have everything prepared. We just need our dresses and we will be ready to leave,” Y/N responded, trying to not sound as if she wanted to change her mind. “Very well,” Edmundo spoke, “I will take your dresses up so that we may discuss what will happen at noon.” “Thank you,” Y/N said before hanging up. Turning to face the door, she remembered what happened last night. She remembered Thomas visiting her so late at night. She remembered saying yes to his proposal just so he’d leave. She remembered telling a half-asleep Amelie they’d travel in different cars. How was she going to explain that? Sure, Amelie wasn’t fully paying attention, but she could wake up and realize what Y/N said.
Before she had a chance to think about what to say to Amelie, the door to her room opened. “Rise and shine!” Amelie cheered. She walked into the room and sat down on the unmade bed. “Today is the day!” She gushed. Y/N gave her a soft smile, going to sit by her side. “Today is the day,” she repeated softly. Amelie put an arm around Y/N’s shoulders, leaning into her slightly. Y/N simply put her head on Amelie’s shoulder and focused on the teal curtains in the room.
“So why was he here last night?” Amelie asked, completely out of the blue. “He wanted to make sure we were good for today and that we knew our dresses would be sent up soon,” Y/N responded simply, still looking at those expensive curtains. “Not Edmundo,” Amelie insisted, “Thomas. I know he was here. I was more awake than you think.” Y/N sat up in shock, knocking Amelie’s arm off her shoulder. She turned to look at her in confusion and fear. “How di--” “I was eavesdropping and hoped you’d admit to talking to him last night,” Amelie interrupted, giving her a smug smile. Y/N looked at the floor, wrapping her arms around herself tightly. “So you know he wanted me to be his date to the coronation?” Amelie kept her smile, raising her eyebrow and tilting her head slightly, “Ya, I know. I just wasn’t expecting you to say yes.”
Y/N sighed, “I had to. He wouldn’t leave if I didn’t. I didn’t want you to know he was here, so I said yes quickly. Which now that I think about it, was pointless since you knew.” Amelie chuckled lightly, putting her hand on Y/N’s knee. “I’m your baby sister, of course I’d know,” she teased, “Besides, this could benefit us.” Y/N gave her yet another look of confusion, “How?” Amelie stood from her spot on the bed and began to pace as she spoke; “Well, the first time you two had a romantic encounter, you were in the balcony located on the same floor as the guarded room. If he takes you to the balcony before midnight, you can get to the room easily and take it before we get to the runaway car. I’m almost completely sure he’ll want to say one last goodbye before the party ends.”Y/N nodded, realizing she had a point. This wasn’t in the plan, but it was more full proof than anything else she had in mind. “If anything goes wrong, we have Edmundo and others in on it,” Y/N agreed. “Exactly,” Amelie smiled.
A knock at the door of the main room alerted both sisters to Edmundo’s arrival. “Speak of the devil,” Amelie muttered, going to answer the door. Y/N followed her out to the main room of the suite. Amelie opened the door to be greeted with a luggage carrier with both their dresses on it, covered in a black protective plastic. “Ladies Santiago,” he greeted from behind the carrier. “Mr. Edmundo,” Amelie retorted, moving to the side of the door in order to allow him to enter. Pushing the carrier through the door frame, Edmundo walked in. He shut the door behind him as soon as he cleared it and moved the carrier to the side. “I have the thigh holster with the carrier box attached to it. As well as your dress with the removable skirt,” he said to Y/N. She nodded appreciatively as he walked closer to them.
“What do you need from the moles?” he asked, standing directly in front of the two. “We need someone guarding the room and someone to distract Thomas when we make our move,” Amelie commanded. “I have two moles working as guards tonight and four footmen,” Edmundo confirmed, “I can send one up when you are ready.” “Perfect,” Amelie smiled, “When Y/N and Thomas make it to the balcony, I’ll give you the signal.” Edmundo nodded. “Immediately after you leave, I’ll have the rest of the moles take your luggage to the jet,” he said, pulling a box out of his jacket, he opened the box containing earpieces they’d use for communication. “And these are for you. Both your dresses have pockets where they can be stored until you need them. In Y/N’s box, there are gloves to keep in her dress pockets for when she’s in the room,” Edmundo instructed, “Are you ready to begin?”
Amelie and Y/N looked at each other and nodded, “We’re ready.”
~~~~~
The castle was full of activity. The footmen and maids were running around, finishing up the preparations for the party to be held later in the afternoon. It was hectic, but the day’s event was just that big. Thomas was in his room, putting on the final details to his ceremonial white and gold suit. He looked in the mirror, taking in every detail. Today was the day. Today he would become king and give love one last chance. It was a bigger day than he anticipated. Thomas felt ready, no doubt, but he couldn’t help the small feeling of nervousness that arose. He wasn’t sure if it were for the coronation ceremony or for when he faced Y/N possibly for the last time.
No, he thought, it won’t be the last time I see her. His plan would work. She would be his, even if they had to deal with the distance. They would be together, no matter what. He was sure of it.
“Brooding again, or are you going over the plan in your head?” Charles asked, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Both, actually,” he joked, turning to face his cousin. “It’ll work,” Charles comforted, “I’m sure it will. And for the other thing, I’m sure it’s normal for soon to be kings to brood.” Thomas laughed, walking up to Charles and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Of course it is,” Thomas responded, “Every king before me did it and every king after me will do it.” Charles laughed, causing him to smile wider. “Then you truly are destined to be king,” Charles smiled, “Hopefully with Y/N as your queen.”
Before Thomas could respond to that, a knock on the door interrupted. He muttered a ‘come in’ and the door opened to reveal Augustus, already dressed in his suit. “Your majesty,” he greeted with a slight bow, “I humbly request a word with you.” Thomas chuckled and rolled his eyes, “Granted.” Charles was going to speak before Augustus stopped him mid-breath; “Baron Charles, your presence is requested at the royal office. Please leave us.” Charles looked at him in surprise before looking at Thomas. Thomas simply nodded and Charles took his leave, still confused at Augustus’s mannerisms.
Once Augustus was sure he was no longer in ear-shot, he began to speak, “You’ve inspired me Tom.” It was Thomas’s turn to look at him in confusion. “How would I have done that?” he asked, not understanding. “Tonight after you become king, you will show your beloved that you are willing to fight for the love you feel for her. I intend to do the same,” Augustus explained. Thomas beamed at Augustus’s words. “Finally,” he gushed. He opened his arms to embrace his best friend in a manly hug.
They separated after a moment, still feeling a similar happiness. Today was a big day for everyone, whether it was due to the coronation or the pursuit of love, everyone in the castle had a reason to celebrate.
“Are you ready to head out to the throne room?” Augustus asked after a minute. “I’m ready,” Thomas confirmed.
~~~~~~~~~~
The room was crowded with nobles and other guests, all waiting for the ceremony. Y/N had arrived earlier than most of the guests in a separate car from Amelie. She was OK with it only because it helped with the plan. Y/N was closest to the throne where Thomas would be crowned, given that she was his guest of honor. Date, she thought, he said date. She took in a shaky breath. There was the feeling again. The feeling that arose every time the smallest thought of him came to her mind. She put her hand on her abdomen in a minimal attempt to suppress the feeling in her stomach. It wasn’t butterflies. Butterflies were a sign of infatuation. This was different. It felt different. She couldn’t describe it, but she knew it was a sign of love. Love that was new to her. Love that she hadn’t felt for anyone, especially not a target. Love that made her want to stay. Love that would soon turn into pain. And when this was over, she knew it would hurt to say goodbye.
Shaking her head, Y/N decided to focus on the small details of the room. The large room was gold in color with a few accents of either grey or white. She stood on the side of the stairs that led to the king’s throne. Hanging overhead was the crest of Blythenon surrounded by a gold plaque. The room was much bigger than any other room she’d been in before. It was bigger and more beautiful.
“He actually invited you to be his date?” Augustus asked behind her. Y/N turned to find him dressed in an expensive looking suit. He looked sharp. “Are you surprised?” She asked, smiling now that she wasn’t the only one there. “Not really, I just wasn’t expecting you to say yes,” he said simply. Y/N chuckled, putting one arm around his shoulders in a quick embrace, “Neither did Amelie, but here we are.” They pulled away after a moment, continuing to talk as the room’s inhabitants continued to grow.
They lost track of time catching up on everything that had happened in the past few days, only coming back to reality when the trumpets signaling the commencement of the ceremony rang through the large hall. Y/N and Augustus turned to see Thomas Standing at the entrance down the aisle. He stood there gracefully in his white ceremonial suit decorated with elaborate gold embroidery and a red sash. He wasn’t wearing the glasses he would normally wear, but that just made it easier to see his gorgeous blue eyes. He bowed and began to walk effortlessly down the aisle, maintaining perfect posture and an even pace. His eyes were focused on the front where he would be greeted by his mother, father, majordomo, and Archbishop. The trumpets ceased as Thomas stood mere feet in front of the archbishop and bowed. The archbishop began his disquisition, pausing briefly every so often to give Thomas a chance to respond. “You may face your people,” he instructed. Thomas turned around, skimming the room briefly before something caught his eye. He paused to gaze at the emerald green dress littered with golden accents, eyes slowly drifting upwards to see the gorgeous face of the woman he’d come to love in this short time. He admired how her loose curled hair perfectly framed her soft features, skin accentuated by both the color of her hair and the color of her dress. She looked perfect. She always did.
Thomas gave her a soft, authentic smile that screamed ‘you look beautiful.’ Y/N looked down momentarily with a sheepish smile gracing her deep red lips. She returned her glance to his eyes and kept it there, both smiling lovingly at each other until the archbishop continued with his disquisition. “Look upon your people, the people you swear to protect, lead, and bring justice to. Speak your vows as you hold the Orb of Unity and Mercy in one hand and the Scepter of Leadership and Justice in the other.” The majordomo approached him and placed both items into his hands. Taking the golden, jewel encrusted orb in one hand and matching scepter in the other, he began to speak his vows. “I, Prince Thomas William Hiddleston of Audrilluria, solemnly swear to lead my country with a gentle but firm hand,” he spoke in a thunderous, determined tone. “I will bring justice to my people, be merciful, and remain forever loyal to my people and my predecessors. On this day, I take an oath to be a just, moral king and put the good of my people first. On this day, I vow to be a dignified king.”
“You may proceed to take your place on the throne,” the archbishop instructed. Thomas turned, still holding both sacred items, and made his way up the stairs as the majordomo spoke the Audrillurian creed in Latin. Once he stood in front of the throne, he turned to face the crowd once more and slowly sat down. The majordomo approached his father, still reciting the creed, and removed the king’s crown from his head. He walked up to the throne with it in his hands. Once he stood directly in front of Thomas, he placed the crown on Thomas’s head. The majordomo then took the sacred items from him and went to return them to their rightful place in the gilded royal chest.
“Place your right hand on Audrilluria’s heart and complete your vows,” the archbishop commanded. The majordomo returned to Thomas’s side and removed a piece of velvet fabric from the stand next to the throne. There it was. The famed Heart of Audrilluria. The only reason Y/N was standing so close to the throne at that very moment. Still looking to the crowd, Thomas placed his hand on the glass box containing the necklace and spoke, “I, Prince Thomas, son of King James, heir to the throne of my ancestors, pledge to do everything I swore to and continue to lead Audrillore in peace and harmony.”
“Stand now and complete the ceremony of your coronation,” spoke the archbishop.
Thomas removed his hand from the glass and stood from his throne. He continued to look in the direction of the guests, maintaining his chin up with a proud expression etched onto his features. “I present to you, Thomas William Hiddleston, King of Audrillore,” the majordomo announced. Everyone in the room bowed as the trumpets began to play once more, their song welcoming their new king.
~~~~~~~~~~
As soon as the coronation ended, the guests were moved to the castle’s ballroom to begin the celebration of the new king. It was well into the hours of the afternoon and the ballroom was filled with people surrounded by music that made it slightly difficult to hear nearby conversations. Y/N stood near a window watching as stars began to light up the sky, waiting patiently to be reunited with Amelie so the plan would begin. As if on queue, Amelie walked up to her, wearing her navy blue dress with silver glitter accents. “Are we ready to go?” she asked, not looking away from the window. “We are, I’ll approach Thomas as soon as he walks in. Tell Edmundo to get the guards ready,” Y/N replied. With that, Amelie nodded and left in search of their ally.
Once she was sure Amelie wasn’t around, Y/N turned to look at the people dancing around the room and began to make her way further into the room. This reminded her of the first party she attended at the castle. It was equally as crowded, if not more, and she felt slightly out of place. Pushing those feelings away, she walked up to a group of mingling nobles she’d spoken to countless times before. She imagined the topic of tonight’s conversation would be the coronation and all its splendor.
Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing when the familiar trumpets began to play a short tune. “Presenting his highness, King Thomas,” a footman spoke. Thomas walked in wearing his simpler, post coronation crown and everyone in the room bowed to him once more. He began to make his way to the dancing area and the crowd parted, allowing him to pass. A soft, orchestral song began to play as he arrived at the dancing area.
Instantly, his eyes began to search for the one person he wanted to invite to dance. Eyes landing on her enchanting presence, he extended his hand to her in a silent invitation to join him for a dance. Y/N walked to him and took his hand, knowing this would be the last dance they’d ever share. Pulling her in closer, Thomas began to lead her in the waltz they shared on the night of Rosamund’s Celebration. They looked deeply into each other’s eyes as they swayed majestically around the room. Her dress flowed with every step they took. Everyone in the room seemed to have disappeared as they danced in their own little words. Everything Y/N felt for the man holding her was silently communicated with her eyes. Thomas’s eyes did the same as they continued to gaze into each other’s eyes. Slowly, the song that played began to end, and with it, the comforting barrier that separated them from the rest of the room. When the final notes were played, Thomas spun her around and bowed. The guests cheered when the song ended and slowly began to resume their previous places in the room, some joining the couple in the dance area.
Thomas and Y/N never broke their eye contact, even after they were surrounded by the other guests. “Come with me,” Thomas spoke suddenly, breaking their loving silence. Y/N simply nodded, knowing full where they were going and what would happen next. He took her hand, beginning to lead her through the sea of people. While Thomas was distracted, maneuvering them through everyone, Y/N looked around the room for Amelie. Once she met her sister’s eyes, she gave her a nod, signaling that the second phase of the plan was about to begin.
They made their way out towards the hall that led to the grand staircase covered with red carpeting that connected the first and second floor. Silently, they made their way up the stairs, Y/N holding the front of her dress so she wouldn’t fall. Even if she did trip, she was sure Thomas would catch her. He was a gentleman in that way.
Walking through the hallway of the second floor, they approached an all too familiar door. Thomas opened the door to the office, allowing her to enter before he did. They walked through the room headed for the balcony once more. Once they reached it, Thomas opened the door for her again and they entered the balcony close together. Y/N admired the many stars in the sky, wishing she could stay there longer. Wishing she didn’t have to go through with the plan. “The stars are beautiful, aren’t they?” Thomas asked suddenly, causing her to look to him briefly before returning to the stars. “Where I live, we don’t see this many because of all the light pollution that comes with living in the city,” she replied. Thomas smiled at her, despite her not seeing it. “Will you miss seeing this many stars?” he asked, slowly wrapping his arms around her middle. “I’ll miss everything about this place,” she breathed, desperately trying to swallow the lump forming in her throat.
They fell once more into a comfortable silence as they both admired the stars above them. Y/N wished this wouldn’t end. She wished she could stay here, in his arms, instead of having to break his heart. But she knew that wasn’t possible. In a few minutes, a footman would enter the room and take him away from her. In a few minutes, she would lose him forever.
“Stay with me,” Thomas said softly, still looking up at the stars. Y/N turned to face him in surprise. “What?” she muttered, turning fully in his arms as he looked down at her. “Stay here with me,” he repeated, arms still wrapped around her waist, “I want a future here with you. I want to spend the rest of my life knowing I can see your beautiful face everyday. I want to someday marry you and have you be mine for as long as you want. I’m willing to do anything for you. It doesn’t matter to me that we’ve only known each other for two weeks. I am prepared to do anything so long as it means I may have you by my side.”
Tears began to well in her eyes. Why would he do this now? Why couldn’t this just be a final goodbye. “I want to,” she whispered, “I really do, but I have to go back home.” Thomas looked at her with the softest eyes she’d ever seen. “Then there is no reason for us not to still be together. Even if our relationship is separated by two thousand miles,” he murmured. There is, she thought, I’m a thief that doesn’t deserve your affection. “We’ll fall apart,” she objected, “Long distance relationships never work out.” “We can make it,” he said hopefully, “I love you enough to make anything work. And if it gets too hard, I will go to Spain in person and visit you for as long as you want me there.” Y/N sighed, “Audrillore needs its king.” Thomas smiled softly at her words, holding on to her a little tighter. “And a king needs his queen,” he countered. Looking down to her lips, Thomas began to lean in slowly. Y/N wanted to lean into the impending kiss. She knew she couldn’t. She shouldn’t. Yet, she chose not to pull away.
“Your majesty,” a man called out, standing in the middle of the office. Quickly, Thomas and Y/N pulled away. “The Earl of the Algar republic requests your presence immediately,” he continued. Thomas groaned silently, trying his best not to show any displeasure. “May you give us a minute?” he asked, desperately wanting him to leave so that he could kiss his beloved. “Afraid not, majesty,” the footman shook his head, “The earl said it was urgent and that he wouldn’t take no as a satisfactory answer.” Thomas sighed deeply, turning to look back at Y/N. “I will escort Lady Santiago back to the ballroom. You must hurry,” he concluded. Thomas walked closer to Y/N, putting his index finger and thumb under her chin, caressing her cheek. “We will continue this later, my dear,” he said in the softest voice she’d heard from him. Y/N nodded as much as she could before Thomas pulled away and began his journey down the hall to the staircase.
It’s time, Ms. L/N,” he said to her, walking out of the room with her close behind. They made their way down the hall in the opposite direction of the staircase. When they approached the guarded door, the footman nodded at the guards, signaling  that it was time. Both guards nodded back and one opened the door for her. As Y/N stepped into the room, one of the guards spoke, “Put the earpiece on once the necklace is secured. Edmundo will give you instructions to exit the castle without being seen and to the getaway car. You have ten minutes.”
With that, the door closed behind her. Y/N took the gloves out of her pockets and slipped them on. She then reached behind her and unclipped the dress’s skirt from the corset of the dress, leaving her in black leggings with the thigh bag around her right leg. After placing the skirt on the floor neatly, she made her way to the two glass boxes. The replica was in the box that was uncovered, while her target was in the one under the same velvet fabric she saw in the ceremony. Carefully, she uncovered her target’s box and set the fabric aside. Y/N looked at the heart in the center of the necklace. Her mind began to think about what would happen once the job was done. She began to think about Thomas. No, not now.
Her mind began to race and her hands began to shake. An awful feeling spread through her body. She couldn’t do this now. He would never forgive him. She would never see him again, but it still hurt to think about his love for her becoming the deepest of hate. Y/N let her arms fall to her sides. She couldn’t do it. Not now.
“Five minutes,” one of the guards called out. She had to do this. She didn’t have a choice, it had to be done. Making up her mind, she took a pen she’d gotten from the office earlier out of one of the skirt pockets and used it to lift the glass from the bottom. Once she was able to grab it safely, she took it out and looked into its deep blue heart. The feeling returned, this time, it was ten times as strong. Looking around the room, she noticed a solitary desk where she could leave the pen. She glanced back at the necklace in her hands and bit her lip. “Two minutes.”
One of the guards opened the door to the guarded room. Before he was able to say anything, however, Y/N walked out of the room, skirt back in place, earpiece in, and a determined look gracing her features. She nodded at the guards, beginning her walk down the hallway in the direction Edmundo was describing in the earpiece. Phase four of the plan had begun.
Heart of Audrilluria- Chapter IX; Complexity
Modern Fairytale AU
Prince!Tom Hiddleston x Thief! Reader
Tumblr media
“No, no,” Y/N argued, “I can’t just break… whatever that is with him out of the blue!” She was pacing around the main room of their suite as Amelie sat on the couch with her feet propped up on the ottoman. They’d been discussing for an entire hour about what happened between Y/N and Thomas. “It’s a risk! If anything goes wrong, we’ll look suspicious and we’ll get caught!” Amelie challenged, shoulders stiffening as she kept her eyes on Y/N. “It’ll look suspicious if I just push him away suddenly!” Y/N snapped, “It already happened. We have to work our way around it. It won’t be for very long.”
Amelie rolled her eyes in frustration, slouching onto the couch further, “I don’t suppose you included ‘prince falling in love with you’ in your A-Z back up plans.” Y/N stopped pacing for a moment. She looked at her sister with irritation and crossed her arms over her chest. “No,” she responded bitterly, “It wasn’t. It was never supposed to happen, but it did. I haven’t stolen the Heart of Audrilluria yet, but I managed to steal the prince’s heart. There’s a lot more at risk now.” Amelie stood from her seat, adjusting her shirt. “Well we have to make sure we don’t screw this up even more,” she muttered. “We have to get ready to parade around Audrilluria. Let’s get dressed and try to maintain a level head. We’ll argue about this when we get back,” Amelie said before making her way to her room in the shared suite. She paused before turning to face Y/N again. “And please,” she began in a softer tone, “Don’t get attached.”
Y/N smiled softly at her sister, letting her arms rest by her sides. “I won’t,” she responded in the same tone as her sister. I won’t.
~~~~~
“So you mean to tell me,” Charles began, sitting across from Thomas who was finishing getting dressed for the day’s events. “That I missed this romantic interaction between you and the love of your life that happened after you kissed her?” Thomas sighed, buttoning his blazer before turning to face him. “Yes,” he said plainly, “All of that happened since the last time we spoke.” Charles smiled proudly, going up to Thomas and putting a hand on his left shoulder. “I’m happy for you, Tommy.” Thomas smiled back, “Thank you, Charlie.”
“Anyway,” Charles said, stepping back, “I suppose you’re going to make another move today.” Thomas looked back to the mirror, making sure his hair was ok. “I will try to get closer to her, but I won't force anything. I don’t want to pressure her into anything,”
“Ah, always the gentleman,” Charles commented, making sure his own appearance was acceptable. Thomas just chuckled. A knock on the door made both men turn their attention to the footman entering the room. “Forgive my intrusion, your majesty, but it is time to go.” Thomas thanked him silently before he left. “Ready?” Charles asked, preparing to leave. “Always,” Thomas responded.
~~~~~~~~~~
“We’ll be walking around for a few hours before the day ends,” Amelie recounted, “I hope your shoes are comfortable.” Y/N looked out the window of the car at the passing scenery. “They are, but that’s the least of my worries,” she said simply. Amelie turned away from the map of the town nearest Audrillore Castle and looked at her sister. “You’re worried about pushing him away,” Amelie stated more than asked. Y/N sighed, slouching into her seat further as they approached the meeting area before they began their grand tour of the Town of  Ethania. The vehicle came to a stop and the valet opened their door. They stepped out and were immediately greeted by the warm, spring air.
The nobles stood around the meeting area, waiting for the tour to begin. The buildings around them looked like antiques. Their architectural design dated them to medieval years in which the country was first being established. Despite their age, they kept a certain charm that made Y/N understand why a tour of Ethania was on the itinerary. The stone streets matched the old aesthetic of the area surrounding them. It was as if they’d traveled back in time the moment they stepped out of the car. It was beautiful in the town. Y/N couldn’t help but look around.
“Now that we are all united,” Thomas announced, “It is time to begin the tour of Ethania.” A number of footmen began to lead the group through the old town. Bystanders looked at the group as they began their trip through the town. Many of them in awe to see that many nobles and royalty walk the stone-covered roads of their home.
The walk was peaceful. Every once in a while, the footmen accompanying them would tell some history regarding certain buildings or structures. They’d been walking for almost ten minutes before a particular building caught Y/N’s eye. It was an orphanage that looked like an old school building. The children outside of the orphanage looked in admiration as the prince and his noble guests walked past their home. Y/N continued to look at the children and her pace began to slow. Amelie noticed her sister’s absence by her side and looked back to see what had captured her sister’s attention. Upon realizing what Y/N was looking at, Amelie’s mood was saddened. “Y/N,” Amelie called out, catching her attention. Y/N looked away quickly and regained her previous pace. The orphanage was a reminder. A reminder of what was at stake. A reminder of why everything had to go well in the job. This is why she couldn’t get distracted. This is why she needed to end whatever was going on between her and Thomas.
The group continued to walk through the town, learning some of their rich history along the way. During their walk, Thomas occasionally glanced at Y/N. He awaited the perfect moment for him to approach her, but he was constantly interrupted by other nobles asking him about the town’s buildings. He noticed when she stayed behind to look at the orphanage. He made a mental note to ask her about it when he had the chance, but for now, their walk had to continue. Still, he couldn’t help but wonder the reason behind her interest.
After thirty minutes of walking through the town, they made it to an open area, the center of Ethania, where they would rest before making their way back. This was the chance Thomas was waiting for. Y/N  made her way to the large fountain to sit. She looked at her surroundings, trying to enjoy the overall feel of it, but finding herself still thinking about the orphanage. She thought about how happy the children seemed. About how they were well dressed and each had a toy of their own. It made her smile. A sad smile, but a smile nonetheless.
“Enjoying the tour?” that deep, smooth voice asked. Dammit. “It’s lovely here.” Y/N said simply, not looking at him. “I believed you would be accustomed to things like this.” He countered, turning his full attention towards her. Don’t look, she thought, if you do, you won’t get rid of him. “Every place has its beauty,” she responded, turning to him, “I’m not accustomed to this beauty.” Dammit, you looked. Thomas chuckled softly, showing that smile that mad Y/N melt just a little.
“I couldn’t help but notice you kept your eyes on a specific building,” he commented, moving a little closer to her. “The orphanage,” she responded, looking at her feet. Thomas nodded, “Is there a reason behind your interest?” Y/N took in a deep breath, attempting to find the words to explain it without saying something he could detect as a lie. “Where I live,” she began, “Only the fortunate children end up in orphanages. Those that aren’t as lucky live on the streets, helping older homeless people to get just enough food to eat that day. It made me happy to see that it's not the case here. They look happy and healthy. That’s what I want for the children from my home.” Thomas gently took her hand in his, catching her off-guard, “I’m certain you’ll find a way to help them,” He comforted, looking into her eyes only to get lost in them once more. Y/N smiled, wordlessly thanking him for his concern.
“We are ready to move on,” a royal footman announced. The nobles gathered again to make their way back to the meeting area. Y/N and Thomas walked side-by-side while a concerned Amelie glanced at them as they walked.
