The Free Black Women’s Library, which started as a mobile library book swapping social art project in 2015 is now over eight years old.
2023 marks two years of us having our own brick and mortar space and having a home base has helped the project grow and develop into all that I imagined it could be and more.
This year birthed some lovely initiatives, opportunities and moments. We have become a community resource, creative hub, social site and care space for many.
If we raise enough money we can keep these good vibes going in 2024.
Help us make it happen by donating to our crowdfunding campaign at

Thank you ♥️🥳

It is that time of the year where I want to forget all my responsibilities, run away to a fantasy library where there is a little pond and a willow tree. Read away the days, transform my mental state into the words I digest

How do you know that you got lucky with your coworkers as an apprentice?
You are alone in one office feeling really fucked up and not knowing how to get home and call the office your boss is normally in but you get the gothlady on the phone who tells you calmly that she's on her way. In the meantime both bosses come in surprisingly and tell you to lay down and make sure you're hydrated. Then the gothlady comes in sits down and says she's staying with you. Another coworker gets you a heating pad for your period pains. You lay there for about an hour feeling a little better after a while, while gothlady has psychological conversations with you to figure out what's wrong and if something going on that can be fixed. Afterwards you sit up to said gothlady on the officephone who tells whoever is in the line "It sat up" Then another coworker comes in to tell you "get your stuff I'll take you home"

★ Are you a mood reader or a TBR builder? I am a mood reader and this stack is not a TBR. Instead, it is a pile of strategically placed books that I plan to read either tomorrow, next week, next month, or in three years. 😭😅 Anyone relate? ★ HASHTAGS // #shelfie #bookstack #booksofinsta #bookshelf #librarylove #stacksaturday #shelfiesunday #hollyblack #thestolenheir #penelopedouglas #lucyscore #romancereader #fantasybooks #colleenhoover #moodreader #tomorrowandtomorrowandtomorrow #blacksun #monicamurphy #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CnQQlxmvr2Q/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I LOVE getting physical DVDs from the library. It has been a game changer for getting back to a place where I treat movies like art/experience, instead of background noise. Do all movies need that kind of attention? No, of course not, but many have rewarded me for it. Borrowing DVDs has turned watching movies into a little ritual and, goodness knows, I love a little ritual.
I get an email that the movie is ready to pick up.
I wait expectantly until the next day that I have a chance to get to the library.
The waiting adds to my feeling of expectation.
I pick up the movie (huzzah! finally!) chit chat with my beloved local librarians a bit about what they're watching or reading lately.
Head home, make an an easy dinner- a movie night dinner- noodles and sauce or veggies and rice.
Open the DVD player, get a little satisfaction from the whir and click.
Put my phone in the next room.
Turn down the lights.
And watch a heckin' movie.
10/10, highly recommend finding your version of this.

The Chronicles of Serendipity - Hidden in the library's labyrinth, the girl with the chestnut hair was always lost and always found. With glasses perched precariously on her nose, she was both a seeker and a keeper of stories.
