bar man.
characters that i think suit are: takeomi akashi, ran haitani, kanji mochizuki, yasuhiro muto, south terano, shion madarame, baji keisuke & hanma shuji or.. your choice!
disclaimer/note: fem!reader, might be ooc, aged up.. i'm taking about he is single and ready to mingle, he is possessive and bold, usage of pet names, mentions of alcohol & smoking, overall fluff (◡ ‿ ◡ .)
wc: 1.6k [1613]

he is a friend that you recently met in a bar down the streets of tokyo. a pleasant man to be with, honestly.
for some reason, he is not present in his usual timing.
a random guy sitting beside you noticed that you’re alone and started up a conversation, your attention completely on him that you didn’t even notice him walking in, smoking a cigar.
irritated and impatient, he grabbed your face and blew a smoke onto you.
“oi, stop talking.”
your cheeks were pressed together without warning and you coughed at the ill-scented smoke of the cigarette as you closed your eyes.
“what the hell are you doing wasting your pretty lips talking to a stranger?” his tone pissed off and firm.
“he was just keeping me company. i thought you weren’t coming!”
“well, i am here. and he won’t need to keep you company anymore. he’s in my way.” he said, looking annoyed, as he pushes the stranger away from you. the stranger gives you a dirty look and left the bar.
he then took a seat beside you and placed both of his hands on your knees.
“did you miss me?”
you chuckled in amusement. his confidence and ego is something else. it’s fascinating.
“not really.”
“you’re lying! if you didn’t miss me why would you be smiling?” he said smirking, leaning his head closer to you. his face just inches away from your own.
“you’re such a liar, missy. you know you love the attention i give you. i don’t see anyone here as perfect as you. perfect little (y/n), so delicate and vulnerable.”
you scoot further away as you turn your head. “geez.. i would actually like you even more if you quit smoking for once.”
he rolls his eyes and puts out the cigar then places his hand back onto you. “i know how to make you like me even more, i know what buttons to press, baby. i know it all. do you know what i mean?”
with an eyebrow raised and a sip of out your drink taken, you asked out of curiousity. “enlighten me then?”
he leaned back into his seat and ordered an ale from the bartender. he waited for his drink before taking a sip and looking to you.
“the way to make you love me is to make you jealous.” the gent turned to your other side and smirked at a lady that was looking in your direction.
he then turned back to you.
“did it work? you’re all mine, your attention is on me and me only, baby.”
“why would i be jealous when you’re not even my man?” you deadpanned.
“oh really? maybe we should fix that then, darling. wouldn’t you want me to be your man? to spend nights with me? to be with me 24/7?” he said as his tone dripping with arrogance.
“i don’t like men who smoke too much.”
“i can quit, i promise. if i quit, would you date me then?” he said looking genuinely interested and no hesitation.
“date..?”
“what? did i say something wrong?” he asked looking at you as if you’re being a bit ridiculous. “you’re acting surprised when it should be the most obvious thing in the world, i can see and feel the flirting from both parties. it’s not like anyone can deny the chemistry we have. you obviously have a crush on me. don’t lie.”
you left him on heard as you let his words sink in.
the chap’s face dropped as he watched you drink quietly, before he spoke again. “fine, you want to play the hard-to-get game do you? it might make me want you more. but know this, no one plays the game better than me, and i know how to win.”
“i won't stop until i get what i want.”
you let out a scoff as a way to taunt him. “sure.”
“you like to play dangerous games, huh? good thing i like the danger.” he chuckled in amusement.
you take the cancer stick out of his mouth and push it on the ashtray with a smirk. you’re going for the kill now. “danger? like your past days?”
his face dropped as you killed the cigar, he let out a quiet chuckle before looking down at you and clenching his jaw in annoyance.
“what do you know about my past?” he looked at you firmly, waiting for you to answer him and it’s the first time you saw his mood change.
you simply shrugged your shoulders as you drink, hiding a smile. oh, you got him now.
“you aren’t exactly good at hiding that enormous tattoo on your body that’s peeking its way into the world.”
he kept staring at you and you saw his eyes looking over you, judging you to see if you were actually truthful or just bluffing. he stayed quiet for a moment.
“you were looking at my tattoos? you must really like me, sweetheart.. now, explain to me what you know about my past, or you’re leaving the bar with one less tooth.” he was smiling but his gaze was still sharp and intimidating.
you laughed quietly. “is that a threat? i wasn’t even judging you.”
“oh, you have no idea how threatening i could be. so, do talk, my dear,”
he kept sitting right by you, and you start to feel him get a lot closer as he takes a puff from the cigar still blowing the smoke on your face.
“and you know i can be a bit violent when i need to, but to someone as delicate and cute as you, i will make an exception. now tell me darling, what do you know?”
you rolled your eyes. you’re starting to believe that he’s just all muscles.
“and here i thought we were getting onto something. it’s not that hard to open and read the newspaper or something. i’ve seen those tattoos on the news alright? chill out.”
“and you know those tattoos are associated to gangs, right? so i must be quite dangerous then.. don’t you think?” he smirked as he continues to stare at you.
“tell me one more thing, do you like dangerous men?”
that caught you off guard and you actually broke into laughter. “you- you really are something!”
“why is that so hilarious? you’re not afraid of me?” he asked, visibly confused. it seems your reaction is something he did not expect but he was still grinning.
“why should i be? you’re just a man who have moved on from the things that you did back in those days.. right?”
“you’re a very perceptive woman, i’ll admit.”
“the past is the past, it stays in my mind but i won't let it stop me from living in the present.”
the gent smiled, reaching out to pat your cheek, his fingers brushing against your soft skin.
“so, i don’t scare you? then what are you waiting for? to marry me?”
“...”

DoubleDate,

May14th, 2004
a/n: lol, I wrote this Before MeetMyGang, so details regarding readers first time on a bike aren’t accurate anymore, buuut I don’t think anyone cares~:)
Before! › here! › after!
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯✦
You’d admired Baji for a long time now.
He was scary, and strong enough to do anything he put his mind to. He prioritized the people important to him, and took everything involving his loved ones very seriously. He was gentle to creatures weaker than him, and took them under his protection. Baji was sincere and dedicated in everything he did.
Baji Keisuke wasn’t a bad guy. And you loved him so much.
Baji, on the other hand, was having a hard time coming to terms with how he felt about you.
But he couldn’t push down the wonderment you always left him feeling after an encounter. You were his friend, no question. But you were so fragile. Meeker than the punks he usually rode with.
Keisuke still couldn’t admit it, but you’d successfully stolen his heart.
“Dude, invite her out or something. It’s summer break, you won’t see her for another month.”
“I didn’t even say anything?” Baji glared questionably at his blond friend.
“Didn’t have do. You’ve been mopping around all week. Probably because—“
“Chose your next words carefully Matsuno,” Baji cut in monotone. Chifuyu puffed his cheeks. “Fine fine,” he backed off, stretching from his previous spot as Peke J’s bed. “See ya then.” He waved off, throwing his bag over his shoulder and headed to the door.
“Oi! What for?” Baji complained.
Sure he had a lot of better shit he could be doing with his time. He could go to Akihabara for the weekend while his mom was gone. He could ride out anywhere he really wanted to and enjoy the summer time he earned. That you helped him earn.
“Why, i thought you were too busy moping around to notice.” Chifuyu joked without malice. After, he quipped his brand new phone out with a wide grin. “And if you’re ever so curious, Y/nnchan just invited me out to meet at the cat cafe.~”
The first division captain stared at his vice underling with a deep mix of emotion. He could identify one of those complicated feelings as jealousy.
You asked to hang out with Chifuyu? Baji looked over at the vibrant screen of Chifuyu’s phone, barely making out your name. Pink and blue bubbles littered the screen. “When did you get her number in the first place?”
“Not too many of the guys have phones, so Mom, Ryoko and Y/n are my only contacts right now.”
Baji suddenly really wanted a cellphone.
“So, you coming or what?” Chifuyu asked, throwing Baji a balled up pair of black socks. “Why would I come?” He grumbled out.
“Cause she asked me to invite you~” Chifuyu grinned wickedly. His heart stopped for a moment.
“Hurry up or I’m gonna tell her you bailed!” Chifuyu yelled before darting out of the apartment. “Damnit! Hold on you son of a bitch!”
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯✦
When the two managed to get to the cat cafe, they were already ten minutes early for the agreed meeting time. “Oh, party of three? Booth 9, enjoy!” The waitress purred once they entered. Confused, they looked over and saw you looking over the menu.
“You’re early!” Chifuyu laughed when he was first to enter the booth. “Chi! Yeah, haha, I was here when I texted you actually.” Your eyes darted over to Baji, happiness spread across your features. “Kei! So happy you came!”
Baji avoided making eye contact, sure to out himself shy if he did. “The hell? Cute~,” Chifuyu laughed again, his comment clearly coming off as more than friendly. Baji felt heat prickle his ears at this point. Was he trying to provoke him?
You laughed at Chifuyu’s comment, and held the menu out to the both of them. “I ordered a few appetizers already, the frushi is actually the specialty of the day!” You chirped along the menu with excitement.
Well, if nothing else, Chifuyu wasn’t a liar. You really were so cute. A little weird and outgoing, but so, undeniably cute.
“I’ll probably get an order of gyoza.” Baji thought out loud, lazily holding the menu in front of him.
Chifuyu ordered a blue ramune poured over a lemonlime soda.
Baji ordered a black cherry soda with a subtle vanilla cream mix rested at the bottom.
And after much deliberation, you decided on a rich brown-sugar milk tea.
“It’s a little surprising how much cats love you, Kei.” You admitted. “No kidding, strays far and wide can’t get enough of him. Baji actually always leaves his bedroom window open for—” Chifuyu went along praising his captain, ultimately leading to his embarrassed captain to cut him off abruptly.
“Oh yeah!! Didn’t you say you had a cat, Chi?” You asked.
“Oh yeah, Peke J! He’s adventurous, and visits with Baji more than he’s actually home. I bet he’d really like you.”
Baji just couldn’t put his finger on it. Chifuyu was just being friendly, yet somehow he was getting under his skin like never before. “Yaknow, Baji and I actually talked about opening a pet shop in the future!”
You beamed in response to the topic, gaze fluttering between the two delinquents. “A pet store?” You asked, nibbling on a gyoza.
Chifuyu glanced over at Baji, hoping he’d jump into the conversation.
This was his role after all, the perfect natural wingman.
Unfortunately, Baji only saw the situation for its surface level; Chifuyu was blatantly flirting with you for the both of them, Right in front of him.
Baji glared a little bit, and shrugged. “Nah, Mikey‘s talkin about seriously applying himself to motor racing. Sounds sweet,” he grinned his canines.
Chifuyu gaped at his answer. Was he trying to look cool? Was he seriously that oblivious to romantic ques?
Yet, ever the same look of amazement, you smiled back. “Motor racing?! I totally forgot that’s like, your guys’ thing, motor bikes!” You visibly prickle with excitement. “I’ve never been close to one actually. They’re really loud and kinda scary from what I see, but you guys use them all the time right?”
The both of them gaped at your reaction. “They seem pretty cool.” You laughed almost awkwardly, Almost as if to let out a hint, but ready to retract at any sign of uncomfortability.
Chifuyu looked at his captain, the stars glaring over his vision obvious. “Baji’s bike is sick! A Suzuki GSX250E! With an attached second seater. He won’t admit it but he saved up a bunch so I could ride alongside him to Toman meetings.” He praised his captains generosity openly again.
“Yer full of shit,” Baji laughed, “I had that thing way before you.”
“How thoughtful! Chifuyu’s pretty new to the gang, so you haven’t saved up enough for a bike yet, right?” You asked Chifuyu, the eye contact you shared making Baji feel a little … possessive? “I’m doing very good saving up for one!” Chifuyu perked up, eager. The only other person he could brag these hobbies with was Kazutora, after all.
“You have a bike model in mind?” You asked, tilting your head, as you allowed an all-white rag doll cat affectionately demand your attention. Baji rose a brow, your choice of words making him curious. “How much you know about bikes?”
You giggled sheepishly, hiding your face in the cats fur. “J-just a little. I just, got a little curious, s-so I learned a few neat facts,” you waved this off quickly, and drew the attention back to one of them. “I really don’t know much besides what a book would tell you. Are you trying to shop for speed or style?”
To you, it seemed like a genuinely honest and curious question. To them, they had finally found something to hold over your smart little head. Something they knew all about, and for you to be clueless!
“Baji goes for speed. I’m thinking as long as I can keep up, I might as well aim for something flashy!” Chifuyu admitted with pride.
“Oi, don’t talk down about my Goki like that! It looks cool as hell,” Baji kicked the blonde affectionately.
“Actually, that makes me wonder, how do you guys even get your bikes? They’re like, triple digit thousand yen. Do you all just have jobs or something?” You asked while more felines covered what was visible of you.
Chifuyu plucks one of the cats what began to claw biscuits into your exposed skin, and cradled it in his arms lovingly.
Baji struggled, stuffing his face with a third gyoza. “My bike didn’t really ride when I first found it. A real piece of junk. But I brought the pieces to Shin and asked if he could make it drivable.”
“Guess it wasn’t in that bad o’f shape. Polished up the framework and helped put the parts together, baby was driving the next two months.”
“So Mikey’s brother spotted you the cost to restore your shitty bike?” Chifuyu teased. “Asshole! I paid with physical labor for that bike!” Baji pushed.
Putting the context clues together, you asked without filter, “Shin sounds like a nice guy, helping you restore a bike so willingly. Maybe he could give you tips, Chifuyu.”
The atmosphere got deathly quiet.
No one wanted to say anything, evident on Baji’s hardened expression and Chifuyu being visibly nervous. “He’s dead,” Baji said finally, no indication to continue.
“Oh… I’m sorry to hear that,” you say quietly, briefly lowering your head to show your condolences. “Based on how you speak of him, Mikey seems to take after him. What does he drive?” You asked, making an attempt to sweep the rough atmosphere away.
To you, it seemed as though the subject of Shinichiro’s passing was an unpleasant one. You felt it impolite to pry.
Baji looks you over, noticing your calm demeanor as you handled the tense answer he just gave. He was used to people acting nervous around him if he wasn’t careful. But he liked feeling as though he didn’t need to filter his words to appear kinder, when he simply didn’t want to talk about it. Baji really liked the way you always treated him so kindly, accepting his sharp attitude without taking it personally.
“A Honda. CB250t.” Baji answered without reluctance. He didn’t mean to come off prickly, but the pause insinuated otherwise.
You began thinking something over in your head, before a cat pounced to get your attention, making you shriek with laughter.
“Sorry sorry,” you apologize to the jealous cat, divvying out a generous handful of treats. This distraction seemed to serve as a middle point of the lunch. Drinks were about finished, food demolished, and the sun was still high in the sky.
Chifuyu yawned, and stretched his limbs. “Way too nice to just go back home though,” he admitted, tossing his head in Baji’s direction. “What’s everybody else doing?”
Baji reciprocated the yawn, and rested his head on the back of the chair. His eyes were focused on you as you played so joyously with the cats. He couldn’t get over just how cute he thought you were. He’d be damned if he said that out loud though.
Not realizing he had went silent, Baji lost himself in through, gaze softened your way. He was so used to his obnoxious glasses blocking this lovestruck look, he found himself doing it again without them.
Chifuyu took note of this, getting mild second hand embarrassment from how oblivious Baji was.
Chifuyu wanted to feel grateful that, at least, you were too distracted by the cats to notice his captain’s affectionate stare. Except, when he glanced over at you, Chifuyu saw a twinkle of something in your eye.
You knew Baji was staring at you. And by acting as though you didn’t notice, you soak in the unintentional affection, with a blush and a smile.
Chifuyu felt his heart rate Racing at this point. This was The Most silent, yet intense, atmosphere of backhanded flirting, without so much as eye contact to fuel the flames.
The waitress had made her rounds by this point, clearing the table of everything, and asking you three if you would like anything to go. “I’d like to order two shortcakes, and three lemon iced teas please! One yuzu, rose, and lavender.” You agreed, while Chifuyu added a specialty lemonade on the to go order.
“I don’t have anything else to do,” you admitted while the three of you gathered your bearings. “Any plans?” You asked, giving no credit to Chifuyu’s exact same question that’d went ignored earlier.
Baji shruggled. “Nah. All that talk about bikes for me itching to ride, though.” He smirked.
Baji liked you, he really did. This whole time, he had made an effort to push you to not get too close. But this moment, covered in cat hair, disheveled and smiling so affectionately. Baji couldn’t help but ask,
“How bout it? You think modified bikes are cool, how bout taking a ride on one?”
The way your face lit up at his question blinded the two delinquents. “Really?!” You asked, clearly excited. “Well don’t get all misty eyed!” Baji blared back, embarrassed.
Once the three of you had gotten your to go orders, you all made way back to their apartment complex to pick up Baji’s bike and keys.
Being the sweet little thing you were, you bashful admitted the to-go order you placed was actually meant for their mothers. “Moms like it when you get them a little treat, to show your gratitude!” You reasoned with their confused response.
The first stop came to Chifuyu’s apartment, since it was two floors below Baji’s.
Chifuyu sighed, a little embarrassed at the way you chatted so openly and casually with his mom.
“She probably thinks y/n’s my girlfriend, she always jumps to conclusions like that.”
It was quiet when Baji didn’t give a reaction. He’d planned on simply waiting patiently for you to finish. He could help but notice the way you chatted this same way with his own mom.
“Guess that wouldn’t be so bad.” Chifuyu whispered by accident. Your conversation with Chifuyu’s mom died out from Keisuke’s ears, the only thing he could register was Chifuyu’s whispered words.
He knew he was overthinking it, so like everything else, he pushed the thought down, even if it did bother him.
“Well, I wanted to drop off the lavender tea and cake! I’m glad to know you’re well!” You went to wave your goodbye. “Finally we can go!” Baji grinned, hyping up his spirit to ride. “Not so fast,” you shook your head at him. “Still gatta drop off the cake and tea I got for your mom!”
Baji was stunned once again. He really did try having patience with you, but damn were you making it difficult. Without argument though, the two boys followed you to the sixth floor.
“Y/n!! I’m so happy to see you,” Ryoko sighed with contentment when she’d successfully tucked under her arm in a big hug. “Jeez, glad she doesn’t greet me that way,” Baji mumbled to Chifuyu, who laughed in response. “Cake and tea? I knew you were my favorite kid,” she took a sip of the yuzu lemon iced tea.
“Hate to remind you that I’m an only child, hag,” Baji bit back. “Gonna change; the cat hair’s starting to itch.” He rolled his eyes, leaving Chifuyu alone with the girls. “So, how’s my second favorite kid?” Ryoko asks with comical volume, aimed in Chifuyu’s direction. Chifuyu chuckled at the muffled “shut up!” that came out of Baji’s room, holding up the keys to Baji’s Suzuki.
“She’s never been on a bike before, so Baji’s gonna take Y/n riding before the meet up tonight.”
“Oi, Kei! You be careful!” She yelled seriously, sashaying over to the spare coat closet. “Do you have an extra helmet?” She asked, earning an annoyed grunt from her teenage son.
“Yes, I have an extra helmet-“ he tried agreeing with her, “is it clean?” She asked, making Baji pause his response. “…Who was the last to wear it again?”
Ryoko sighed, and pulled down a dark purple cycle helmet. “Please wear this,” she asked you, holding the sturdy plastic into your hand. “I used to wear it when I’d go out riding. ‘Long as you and Kei stay friends, use it for me, alright?”
Needlessly sentimental, you hugged her as you’d accepted the helmet before your exit.
“Where do you usually keep your bike?” you asked, aware that parking one’s bike at home can be dangerous. “Theres a cheap parking garage down the street.” Baji nodded in the direction of the garage when the turn came up.
Once making it in, the three of you circled the bike in admiration. “It’s nice,” you hummed, modestly squatting to checkout the details of the bike. “It’s okay if I touch right?” You asked.
Nervously, Baji squats beside you and made a gesture to show it was fine to do so. Ever so gently, you traced your fingers along the exhaust pipe, as though you would peel away the metal to look further inside. Quietly, you hummed, and examined the parts most visible. “It’s big though, I don’t think my feet can reach the peddle..”
Both Baji and Chifuyu laughed. “You thought i was gonna just let you ride my bike like that?” He asked as though it wasn’t even a consideration. “Huh? Is that not what you meant earlier?” You asked, embarrassed. Baji laughed again, barely making it to his feet.
“You dork! I was just gonna drive you around some backroads.” He ruffled your hair roughly. You gave a sheepish “oh” before looking away in embarrassment. “W-well, that’s fine.” You said, a little shyer this time.
Chifuyu’s eye glinted from your wit.
Chifuyu could read you like the back of his hand, a feat Baji was clearly oblivious to. By acting shy, you automatic lit a flame of nervousness under Keisuke’s idea of a platonic activity. You were hinting at the exposure—tiptoeing that line of flirtation neither of you quite crossed.
And Baji fell for your tricks like a lovesick fool, suddenly bashful and confused for as to why.
“What ‘bout you Chi?” You asked, lining the scene with a comfortable middle ground between both boys. Body language gave away you still tried including Chifuyu, as to not kick him out as an unnecessary third wheel.
“Kinda itchy with cat hair, honestly. Think I’m gonna take a shower and check out what Ryusei’s doing. Catch ya later?” He asked.
It was Chifuyu’s turn to finally let go of the reins; he’d secretly initiated the date, lead the conversation, and got you two to this point. His job was complete. Satisfied, he turned to walk away. “Wait,” you pulled on Chifuyu’s sleeve, subconsciously making the boy lean into your cupped hand. “Thanks for today, it meant a lot to me.” And with an innocent kiss to the corner of his lip and cheek, you doddled back to Baji, who’d bucking his heel against the kick Stand.
Chifuyu wouldn’t stop thinking about that chast kiss you gave him. How soft it was. How precise your movemeets were— you had Meant to kiss him where you had. Not enough to consider romantic, but definitely a forewarning that it could have been. He was swimming in those thoughts, even when he watched you and Baji plow down the street happily.
Was he seriously falling in love with his Boss’s crush?

Glowstick Garden
Hikari and Rindou form a friendship over music in the final timeline. Bonus chapter for "Sakayume."
It was a Tuesday afternoon, which meant not much was happening at Groove Garden. The record store smelled of nag champa, old vinyl, and wood polish. An electric guitar leaned against its amp in the corner by the register, plastered with stickers of band logos and anime characters. Hikari perched on a stool, lazily tapping her fingers on the counter in rhythm to a Led Zeppelin track crooning through the speakers. Her eyes flicked up at the sound of the doorbell.
It was Haitani Rindou.
She didn’t dislike Rindou. Not exactly. But the Haitani brothers had a certain reputation—charismatic, dangerous, the type to push their luck and other people’s boundaries. And, well, Hikari had boundaries. Firm ones, thank you.
Rindou, for his part, looked like he belonged in an indie record store. His hoodie was half-zipped, revealing a black T-shirt with some obscure design on it. His hands were casually shoved in his pockets, and his expression had that perpetual “I’m probably cooler than you” look about it. He glanced around the shop before meeting her eyes.
“Yo,” he said.
“Yo,” she replied, noncommittal.
He sauntered toward the counter, head nodding slightly to the beat. “Nice track. Early Zeppelin, huh?”
“Yeah. ‘Good Times Bad Times.’” She tilted her head. “Didn’t peg you for a classic rock guy.”
“I’m not. But I appreciate the roots.” He leaned against the counter, looking like he was trying not to look like he was leaning against the counter. “You work here?”
“No, I just like standing behind registers for fun,” Hikari deadpanned.
“Touché,” he smirked. “I’m looking for turntables. My old set’s pretty much toast, and I heard this place gets good imports.”
“Sure does,” she said, hopping off the stool. She gestured for him to follow as she led him to the equipment section. “We’ve got Pioneer, Numark…even Technics if you’re feeling fancy.”
Rindou’s interest seemed genuine, which was surprising. Most people only wandered into Groove Garden to poke through vinyls, reminisce, or complain about how “nobody listens to real music anymore.” But as he ran his hands over the sleek turntables and asked about sound quality, Hikari found herself slightly warming to him. Slightly.
---
By the time Rindou made his fourth unannounced visit, Hikari wasn’t suspicious anymore. A bit exasperated, maybe, but not suspicious.
“You're back again?” she asked as he plunked a USB stick on the counter.
“I made a playlist,” he said. “Wanna hear it?”
Hikari arched an eyebrow. “Why?”
“Because I trust your opinion,” he said, his tone a little too casual. “And I figured you’d be honest.”
It was hard to argue with that. She grabbed the stick and plugged it into the shop's sound system, scrolling through the tracks. The first one kicked in—an electronic beat that was surprisingly good. She glanced up.
“Did you mix this?”
“Yeah. It’s still rough, but…”
“Shut up. It’s good.”
He grinned, adjusting his glasses with one finger, leaning on the counter again as she fiddled with the volume. One track followed another, and before she knew it, they were cranking the speakers and Rindou had grabbed a handful of Sharpie markers from a cup beside the register.
“This,” Hikari said, twirling a green marker like it was a glow stick, “is possibly the dumbest thing I’ve ever done.”
“Liar,” Rindou said, waving a pair of red Sharpies around like he was summoning the spirit of rave culture.
She laughed, unable to deny it. The store became an impromptu dance floor as they swayed and spun, completely immersed in the music.
The doorbell jingled.
Hikari froze mid-twirl, Sharpies in her hands, as Baji Keisuke stood in the doorway holding a takeout bag. His expression vacillated between confusion and mild horror.
“What the hell are you two doing?”
Hikari grinned sheepishly, giving a light shrug. “Uh…team-building?”
Rindou, to his credit, didn’t stop waving his Sharpies. “You should join us, man. It’s fun.”
Keisuke didn’t move. His bronze eyes zeroed in on Rindou like a laser-guided missile. “Put the markers down, Haitani.”
Rindou smirked but complied, tossing the Sharpies onto the counter. Hikari tried to defuse the tension by sidling up to Keisuke and plucking the takeout bag from his hands.
“You brought lunch,” she said brightly, kissing his cheek. “You’re the best.”
He didn’t respond, his gaze still locked on Rindou like he was mentally compiling a list of ways to remove him from the premises.
—
Back at home that night, Rindou sprawled on his couch, headphones on, replaying the events of the day in his mind.
Hikari had surprised him from the start.
When he and Ran joined Toman after Tenjiku was defeated, they’d done what they always did—tested the waters and pushed buttons. With most people, it was easy to find weaknesses, to prod and poke until they snapped or showed their true colors. But Hikari was a wall. Tiny, yes, but utterly immovable when she decided to be.
She’d stared them both down without flinching, brushing off their provocations with a casual wit that had left Ran grinning and Rindou mildly annoyed. Even more impressive was how she carried herself in a fight. He remembered watching her with the First Division during the battle with Tenjiku, her small frame darting like a blur, delivering precise, devastating kicks and blows that left opponents twice her size crumpled on the ground.
And then there was her music.
The first time he’d heard her sing at a Toman meeting, he hadn’t expected much. He’d assumed it was just some girl noodling around with a guitar. But the moment she started playing, her voice, raw and rich, carried a kind of honesty that made him uncomfortable in the best way. It was clear that music wasn’t just a hobby for her—it was an extension of herself.
Now, lounging on his couch with his playlist thrumming in the background, he smirked.
Hikari was weird. Honest. Annoyingly stubborn.
And pretty damn cool.
He closed his eyes, letting the beat carry him.
Maybe being part of Toman wasn’t so bad.
---
Ten Years Later:
The Haitani Brothers’ nightclub was exactly what you’d expect from two guys who made chaos look like a fashion statement. It was sleek, trendy, and unapologetically loud, the kind of place that charged a small fortune for drinks but guaranteed you’d leave with stories to tell.
Hikari liked it…most of the time.
On this particular Friday night, the bass was cranked so high it felt like a second heartbeat. Strobe lights pulsed across the dance floor, and the crowd moved together in a hazy, rhythmic blur. Hikari stood by the bar, sipping a drink and fiddling with the little cocktail umbrella, her hood up to block out some of the chaos. She didn’t hate it—it was fun in small doses—but nights like these, the fun took a toll.
Rindou watched her from the DJ booth, his expert hands mixing tracks while his sharp eyes scanned the room. He’d noticed her pattern over the years. Hikari loved music, loved dancing, but there were limits. She’d last a couple of songs, step outside for air, and return with earplugs discreetly tucked into her ears. She’d never complain, but he saw the signs—the subtle way she rubbed her hands together, the tension in her shoulders, the way her smile turned a little too tight around the edges.
He didn’t say anything about it. He never did.
But a week later, Ran leaned on the bar with his usual casual arrogance, nursing a drink as Rindou sat across from him.
“So,” Ran drawled, “what’s with the calendar update? You serious about this ‘sensory night’ thing?”
Rindou shrugged, staring into his own glass. “Why not? Not everyone wants to be blasted by sound and lights all night. It’s just one night a month. Lower volume, softer lighting, quieter VIP rooms.”
“Hmm.” Ran smirked. “This wouldn’t have anything to do with a certain friend of ours, would it?”
Rindou didn’t respond, which was answer enough.
—
Hikari had been a little skeptical when she heard about the new event at the club.
“I mean, it sounds great,” she said to Keisuke, who’d relayed the news over lunch. “But the Haitanis? Really?”
Keisuke shrugged, grabbing a dumpling with his chopsticks. “Even chaos gremlins grow up, I guess.”
It turned out to be better than she’d expected. The lights were dimmer and not strobing, the music subdued enough to let conversations happen without shouting, and the VIP rooms were open for anyone needing a quieter space. It wasn’t just Hikari who seemed to appreciate the change. She noticed a few other patrons on the dance floor with earmuffs and earplugs, and several couples sat in the corner booths, chatting in low, comfortable tones.
Hikari leaned on the bar, sipping a soda and tapping her fingers in time with the beat. It was perfect.
“Enjoying yourself?”
She turned to find Rindou standing beside her, a grin on his face. He wasn’t in the DJ booth tonight—he’d left that to one of their other employees—but he still carried the energy of someone who owned the place. Which he did.
“It’s great,” she admitted, raising her glass. “I didn’t think you’d be the type to plan something like this.”
“Yeah, well.” He looked away, pretending to focus on the dance floor. “Some people like the loud chaos. Others don’t. Figured we could cater to both.”
She tilted her head, studying him. “What brought this on?”
He shrugged, but she caught the faintest flicker of a smile. “Just seemed like a good idea.”
Rindou didn’t elaborate, but the truth was simple: he’d noticed.
He’d noticed the way Hikari loved music but shielded herself from loud noises. He’d noticed how her fingers danced on invisible guitar strings when a good song played, and how she always smiled a little brighter when the volume was just right. And he’d noticed the other patrons, too—the ones who occasionally stepped outside for air, who wore earplugs or winced at the strobing, bright lights.
It wasn’t about changing the world, or even changing the nightclub. It was just about making a space where people like Hikari could exist without compromise.
And, if he was honest, he liked seeing her enjoy herself without reservation.
Hikari didn’t push him for more answers. She just smiled, that soft, genuine smile he recognized as something special.
“Thanks for this,” she said, her voice audible over the music without shouting, for once.
“Don’t mention it,” he replied, and he meant it.
The night wound down slowly, the music easing into softer tempos as patrons filtered out. Hikari found herself leaning against the bar again, lazily drumming her fingers to the beat of a slow, jazzy remix. Rindou returned from a quick lap around the floor, a bottled water in hand, and plopped down on the stool next to her.
“You sticking around until we close?” he asked, twisting the cap off his water.
“Maybe,” she replied, smirking. “Depends. Think I’ll get kicked out if I start a Sharpie rave?”
Rindou choked on his water, coughing hard enough to draw a few glances. “Are you serious right now?”
“Completely,” Hikari deadpanned. “I could probably find some in your office. Just saying.”
He groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re never gonna let me live that down, are you?”
“Nope.” She popped the ‘p’ for emphasis.
“Great,” he muttered, but the corners of his mouth twitched upward despite himself.
Hikari leaned closer, her purple eyes sparkling with mischief. “C’mon, you know it was fun. Admit it.”
“Fine,” he said with exaggerated reluctance. “It was… mildly fun.”
“Mildly?” she echoed, laughing. “That’s the best you’ve got?”
“Take it or leave it,” he shot back, but his grin betrayed him.
Keisuke chose that exact moment to walk in, surveying the bar with the familiar intensity of someone who didn’t trust the Haitanis as far as he could throw them. His gaze landed on Rindou and Hikari, and his eyebrows furrowed.
“Are you bothering her?” Keisuke asked bluntly.
“No,” Hikari said, grinning. “Just reminiscing about the Sharpie rave.”
Keisuke's eyes narrowed, recalling the memory. “Don’t remind me.”
“Don’t worry, Baji,” Rindou said smoothly. “We’re fresh out of Sharpies tonight.”
Hikari burst out laughing, and even Keisuke couldn’t help the slight twitch at the corner of his mouth. Her laugh was infectious and it got to him every time.
“Good,” Keisuke said gruffly, though his tone lacked any real bite. “But if I hear about any more marker raves, Haitani, we’re gonna have words.”
“Noted,” Rindou replied, raising his water bottle in mock surrender.
As Keisuke turned away, muttering something about “weirdos,” Hikari leaned her chin on her hand, still chuckling. “You know, for someone who doesn’t trust you, he tolerates you surprisingly well.”
“I like to think I’m growing on him,” Rindou said, smirking.
Hikari snorted. “Yeah, like a fungus.”
Rindou rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress his grin. “Keep talking like that, and I will bust out the Sharpies.”
“Oh no,” Hikari said dryly, holding up her hands. “Anything but that.”
And for the first time that night, Rindou laughed—real and unguarded, the kind of sound that made the quiet moments worth it.

would my mom approve of my faves?
aki -> 9/10:
wouldn't be happy he's a smoker, but otherwise I feel like she'd be happy that he has 1) a stable job, 2) can handle himself, 3) is an introvert.
would think we are a pretty compatible couple, although she'd be worried I'd break his heart.
nagumo -> 7.5/10:
would eye the tattoos suspiciously but would definitely be glad he doesn't have any on the face. would think that he's the one that's the most intelluectually matched for me.
would fall for the suave act, especially if he says some shit like 'is she your older sister'.
michael kaiser -> 7/10:
redeeming quality: he's a football player.
ngl, she'd be in her thing - she enjoys sports and I got the competitiveness from her - would though side-eye him if he treated me rudely in front of her or raised his voice. she's a bit of a tiger mom and would definitely not hesitate to take his ego a few knocks down.
otherwise, I think she'd judge me for his appearance but 'you know what? as long as you are happy and he gives us free tickets'.
oikawa tohru -> 10/10:
would fall for the act.
would totally fall for the act.
not a huge fan of volleyball but again, I think she might enjoy it plus oikawa is so pretty boy and cute. though, THOUGH my mom would be a bit like 'ain't he a bit too pretty?' *sideeyeing me.
baji keisuke -> 4/10:
genuinely would take me aside and go like 'is this your rebellious phase?'.
would tell me at least 181716262 times not to get on his bike.
literally make me swear an oath onto the family relics, because she's scared.
would be definitely intimidated by him and I feel like baji would be the type to be downright blatantly truthful when speaking and admit to beating up people ('but he does to defend my honor'). would be genuinely terrified (but also strangely like... admiring, like... you go girl).
I think that they might get along though on the long run.
kazutora hanemiya -> 6/10:
definitely side-eyes the neck tat (would ask me whether he has been in prison and I'd lie like a liar).
I think that timeskip! kazutora would be her cup of tea; he's respectful, polite but also blunt, although she'd be a bit sad that I didn't get on with somebody that has my same level of instruction (it's something she mentioned whenever I had previous boyfriends) (although I don't think it'd matters).
he'd lose a lot of point for the neck tat.
souya kawatara (angry) -> 8/10
he gets point over kaiser simply for the fact that this man would be her ideal type, personality wise; a chill dude who can cook? she'd dig it, although genuinely terrified by that face. though I feel like angry wouldn't be like baji and be nervous to make a first good appearance.
would be a bit sideeying for the hair, but also for ever endeared he has an older twin (she's an only child, who cried when my sister did her confirmation and I stood by her side); would approve but tease me about it.
rindou haitani -> 8/10
would ask whether he's kaiser.
he gets points for brotherly bonding but would lose some for mentioning he has a club, although you know what, mom? money!
gets brownie points for being a fellow glass wearer and having a bit of an issue with diets and gym and living healthy as my mom is drinking down all that juice.
gris rubion -> 100000/10
her favorite.
literally the man of her dreams (for her daughter): handsome, capable and hard working. she'd be a bit worried about his appearance but would quickly change her mind upon noticing his hard work and intensity and in general, I can see him being what she'd hope for in a future husband for her daughters.
would pester me about grandchildren.
#angsti rambles#this is pure crackhead energy#pls don't take offense#also if you are asking why it's my mom#it's because my dad would be happy just to get rid of me

May i request please Ryusei, Baji, Chifu and Kazu when a friend draws them/make a clay figure of them please ? As a platonic
Thank you !
─Ryusei, Baji, Chifuyu & Kazutora x reader (platonic)
─Summary: your friend discover that you are making a small figure/draw of them
─Warnings: none

Ryusei Satou
─ He caught you drawing him in the middle of class, it was a boring class and you had a good angle on him so you took advantage of it.
─ You wish he hadn't seen you because oh boy, he'll make fun of you telling you that you're in love with him as a joke.
─ You will raise his ego even more and probably every time he sees you with a pencil and a notebook he poses ironically for you.
─ Although he seriously won't mind if you draw him, he enjoys seeing how you see him even if it's silly doodles sometimes, he'll appreciate art just the same.
─ He tries to draw you back but let's say that art is not his strong point, you still appreciate the attempt.
─ He won't force you if it bother you that people see your drawings without your permission, but keep in mind that he will want to snoop in your notebook just to see his.
─ Oh and if someone makes fun of your drawings he'll be ready to throw hands no problem, only he can make fun of it and he's not even serious about it.
─ He'll definitely steal one of the doodles, cut it out, and put it in his phone case to take it with him.
Baji Keisuke
─ You had to make a figure of whatever you wanted for a class project, you decided to make your friend bust in a cartoon version.
─ So you both worked together because you needed some references, he didn't question why you decided to take him as a model since he wanted to do Peke J.
─ He's probably complaining that you've exaggerated his expression and that he's not so 'ugly', but it's the style, so you ask him to shut up and concentrate on his work, you're not accepting criticism of your work when he made a cat as if it were a ball with paws.
─ He will show off when the works are exhibited, proudly telling Chifuyu that this is him and that you have wonderful hands that would make you a famous artist in the future.
─ You will verbally slap him for being a hypocrite and for having complained at the beginning about how he looked and only bragging now that you got the best grade in the class.
─ He saved a photo of the sculpture and asked you to make a slightly smaller one to put in his room.
─ He will show it to his mother, proud of your abilities, although at first he said that he did it to take the credit, luckily it's easier to catch a liar than a lame one.
Chifuyu Matsuno
─ You casually commented that you were out of ideas to draw and that lately you were not able to capture the poses well one day.
─ He said that he could be your model to take references, although it was only a specific case, you began to trace his figure more times because this boy seemed to be posing without realizing it.
─ He won't mind spending entire afternoons posing for you, although he can't sit still for more than a minute because he gets tired quickly, give him a break, he never thought of being a model and it's exhausting to keep the same posture for so long.
─ Definitely he will ask you to finish the drawings that he likes the most and not to leave them as a simple practice sketch, he wants to hang them on the wall of his room.
─ He will also keep one of those little drawings in the phone case, he takes it as a lucky charm because the day you gave it to him he passed an exam.
─ As a thank you, he also wants to make a silly little drawing of you, although since he wants it to be a surprise, he draws you during classes without you noticing.
─ Chifuyu isn't exactly the best at art but you appreciate his scribbling attempt, you gave him an extra point because he drew your pet next to you.
Kazutora Hanemiya
─ This boy needed some affection since he entered the correctional and you thought of giving him a gift once he completed his sentence.
─ So you set to work on a small figure of him that he could use as a key ring.
─ He hugged you so tightly when he came out of the correctional that he almost left you breathless, he didn't expect any of his old friends to go see him that day and even less he expected a gift from you.
─ He will ask you to teach him the art of clay because he needs to start looking for other hobbies that do not include punching.
─ If he is good at it, you will have many relaxing outings doing this type of craft, if he doesn't master the practice, he will only ask you to make more figurines to decorate his room.
─ He definitely wants you to make earrings to match with you, he brags that his best friend did it to everyone possible, yes, sometimes he'll embarrass you because he spends exalting your work when it's not a big deal most of the time.
─ He supports you in everything, like if you sign up for a figure and creativity contest, he will be by your side on work nights helping you as much as he can.

Full moon again! Crazy how time flies
Hanged man the most upsetting to look at boss ever but at least we got a fun strega fight!
First things first Shinjiro's death aftermath always gets me, I really enjoy that in persona 3 your party members awake to their new persona based on their own personal journeys and relationships to other people and not only to their relationship to the MC. In one hand evolving due to the impact of the MC in their lives makes you more attached to them I guess but having it be part of their stories makes them seem more like their own person?
Either way, even then it's kinda funny how fast everyone gotta move on so the game can keep going, I always found the pacing of persona 3 to be "off" somewhat because the things only happen right before and right after the full moon I feel, these last few months, but at the same time if it was more spread out it might be harder to follow since you're concentrating on the social links?
ANYWAY speaking of social links I love them, almost done with Akinari which is the 10/10 best social link ever but also just finished Hidetoshi, I really missed out on him cause I found him annoying in my first playthrough but after doing all social links on p3p I find him cute, also there's someone on twitter who ships him and Keisuke so now I'm invested
Unrelated to the actual gameplay but this week I also made the mistake of checking persona 3 on social media lmao. Lots of people complain about reload huh? Tbh I have my own problems with the game but I would be a liar if I said it was bad, I'm really happy it exists
Which takes me to more strega content <3
I feel like they expanded on Jin's and Takaya's interactions? I really don't remember getting to see them interact quite this much, also if they did it wasn't this shipable was it 😳
Jin is really cute, I've always wanted to like him more than I did and now I actually do like him a lot 💖
MY BOY NEEDS BETTER TASTE IN MEN THO LMAO TAKAYA SHUT HIM DOWN
Them being able to shift after hitting a weakness was super fun! I didn't expect it! ALSO DANG JIN PULLING TAKAYA INTO THE WATER NEVER LOOKED THIS HOT!!!!
But Akihiko really said "whatever, not gonna let it bother me 🙄"
SEES reaction to the gay "double suicide" (they didn't actually die) is always hilarious, they're just like "well guess that happened, moving on-"
Arcana hanged-man disgusting as always I hate his body suspension look with the crooked neck, I feel like this fight was also way easier than portable, am I just on a level that's too high?? I don't feel like I've been grinding but I do have way too much fun in tartarus so maybe I'm ending up being too high a level for the bosses. Well it was a tiny bit challenging, I had some teammates die at least, but I never felt like I could actually lose or that I had to think too much about how to win :/ (could also be because I have played this game before and know how to defeat everyone idk)
Anyway, Minato got tied to a cross and I had laughing fit about it remembering the first time I saw that scene, but then things got serious
It's kinda sad I don't remember much about my reactions to my first time playing, like was I shocked Ikutsuki was evil? No memories, maybe I already knew, I'm pretty sure I knew Shinjiro died before I even met him while playing for the first time, tbh I think Ikutsuki is the more forgettable of the persona twist villains (maybe cause he doesn't do much before the twist? Mostly the games wants you to think he's harmless and he just shows up to do exposition) but I don't mind him, at least he's not Akechi 🙄
That's it for now, I don't actually MEAN to only do one full moon a week but work has been killing me I barely have time or energy to play during the week, but oh well, at least we get Ryoji soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bored drabble of my silly fanmade iranami sibling talking to keisuke. Plus mentions of her twin brother.
"I'm a bad sister!" Hayami found herself sobbing to Keisuke. They had never been close before the tragedy, but he allowed her to move in with him. She was half sure it was because he missed taking care of someone, but the other part had guessed that it was for the foundation's sake. To keep an eye on her.
Her brother peered into the living room from the kitchen. His hair was tied up into a bun so he could cook without any blue strands falling in. "What do you mean?" He responded.
She was beginning to tremble, and her breath was uneven, and her hands were shaking, and her eyes were tear-filled, and--
"I cant remember how he looked before."
Keisuke's face fell. She was talking about Kohei again, wasn't she? It'd make sense-- he was her twin, and he died trying to save her.
"I cant remember his smile," she went on. "If i try to, i just see the blood. I just see how those stupid bears hurt him. I just see his tears."
He turned the stove off first, and soon followed by removing his apron. "Hayami..." he began. But he could not continue, as no words came to mind that could possibly help.
She went on with a strangled gasp. "I should've been the one to die..! I-- I was meant to be the responsible one..! And i left him to die...!"
"No..." keisuke responded weakly as he grabbed her hands, preventing her from clawing at herself. "No, Hayami..."
"He--!" She ignored him and began to choke on her own tears. "He told me that it was his turn to take care of me..! And... and then he yelled at me to run..! I--"
Keisuke stared his sister in the eyes. At least, he tried to. Hers wouldnt meet his. "Hayami," he told his sister in a firm voice, "you did as he wanted you to. You wouldve just upset him if you didnt."
The words didnt help, but she pretended they did.
She was never a good liar, though.

@kyukicho said: ❝ look at him like that again and you’ll won’t be seeing anything. ❞ - bajitora
Possessive, territorial, and jealous starters
The lascivious stares of others is not an experience that Kazutora is unused to per se. He's had plenty of people tell him how pretty he looks or their eyes fall to the ink across his throat, or an outfit or this or that. Most were respectful of it. Some weren't. Many of those who weren't had also learned that they could look but not touch unless they wanted to be sent limping to the hospital. ( He'd spent some days in solitary confinement for it too, but worth it. ) He supposes this really is Baji's first time getting to see something like this up close and personal when some douchebags won't fuck off.
Kazutora's attention immediately turns towards Baji when he hears his boyfriend snarl. It probably shouldn't earn as big of a reaction as it does. He doesn't even care much when the douchebags end up scurrying away with their tails between their legs. His eyes are focused solely on the feral, possessive look that Baji has. He'd be a liar to say that didn't have him feeling a bit warmer than seconds ago.
" Keisuke ~ " Kazutora's voice comes out smooth, a siren allure to it as he grabs Baji's shirt and pulls him closer to him. His fingers rest against the bottom of Keisuke's stomach, slowly sliding upwards till he can grasp the edges of Baji's jacket near the collar. " That was hot as fuck. " He remarks, shameless with his stare and lips curved upwards into a smirk. " Like, really hot. "
They both know Kazutora can handle himself just fine. He prefers it. But something about that look, that possessiveness, has Kazutora's rapt attention. He's all but purring when he holds his boyfriend close. He presses their lips together, grinning into the kiss as he imagines feeling that snarl vibrate in Baji's chest. His tongue darts out, teasingly licking Baji's bottom lip without pushing for more. Now he's playing a tease, excitement rushing under his skin. Keisuke had always been protective, long before shared kisses and admitted feelings. But possessive? At least so openly? That was something new that Kazutora found himself quite fond of.
He makes a soft noise into the kiss just to push Baji's buttons further. ( He wonders if that will be the thing that makes him snap or if he needs to push more to see what would happen. ) His tongue gently flicks one more time before Kazutora pulls back, eyes dark with smug, bratty delight. " Guess you gotta stake your claim more, huh Kei? " He remarks, leaning back and loosening his grip on Baji's jacket. " I mean....if just anyone thinks they have a chance at me? " He challenges with mock innocence, eyes wide as he looks to the side. He manages to pull it off for a few seconds too before the devious smirk peeks through.
#kyukicho#he is very much looking and purring#but also gotta poke keisuke's restraint <3#tease him good luck w/ consequences tiger#᛭ — [IC] wounded tiger caught in mania's pit [KAZUTORA HANEMIYA]#᛭ — [RELATION] not even the sun can rival the warmth of your love [KAZUTORA & BAJI]

Characters: Takemichi, Baji, Mitsuya, Mikey, Draken, Hanma, Chifuyu
This is just something I decided to think of out of the blue as I go further down the rabbit hole of this anime/manga/movie franchise. One Shot Summer Day 2: "Cicatrices" (Scars)
Inspired by Cicatrices, perfomed by Kalimba. If you're Mexican, you understand why there isn't any link to the song.
Ven y dime corazón, ¿cómo empezar Come here and tell me love, Una vez más sin ti? how can I start again without you? Ven y dile al corazón que puede seguir Come and tell my heart that it can move on Que puede vivir sin ti That it can live without you Este amor que se fue This love is already gone Y que no puedo vivir sin ti And I can’t live without you Este amor que se fue This love is long gone Y que no puedo tener And I can’t have it anymore Que era de los dos, pero se olvidó It was ours, but it’s already forgotten Dejando cicatrices Just leaving scars behind
Another day long gone, another day in which Kazutora Hanemiya didn’t receive any letter from the outside.
He felt like he was slowly losing it completely, because he kept waiting from that particular letter since he came back to juvie. Only 15 years old, and two murder chargers were already weighting on his shoulder. He was lucky enough that his father’s money could afford an outstanding lawyer that managed to prove that his guilty confession was just a trauma response for seeing that boy of his same age lying lifeless next to him. He was even luckier that he wouldn’t get transferred into an adult’s prison before he became of age.
Maybe that was the reason no one wrote to him. He was a murderer.
But he still looked up to the moment in which mail was delivered to his fellow inmates, waiting anxiously for an envelope with the messiest handwriting that has been known to man. Sometimes, Kazutora could swear that the kanjis used were actually mistaken, but he just shrugged it off with a chuckle.
He knew that his best friend was a little slow. But he didn’t care. Why would anyone mind that he had a hard time spelling when Keisuke Baji was the most loyal person that had ever lived?
Not matter what kind of hell awaits us, I’m with you until the end!
Kazutora was proud to admit that he spared Baji the hell that juvie was. As physically strong as Baji was, he was too pure to survive a system in which only the deranged survived. Even if both were present when Shinichiro Sano was murdered, Baji – who tried to stop Kazutora and was already struggling with adapting to junior high – was held back for a school year. But he was free.
And it was all that matters.
Unlike the others who eventually turned his back to him, especially those who were closer to Mikey, Baji still wrote to him every single week.
But he was a liar.
Baji died before they both saw the end to the hell that Kazutora was going through.
However, Baji didn’t die. Kazutora killed him. Instead of running away, Kazutora stayed behind when the police arrived at the junkyard in which the Bloody Halloween took place.
I died on my own.
Those words still echoed Kazutora’s mind whenever he started to drift into sleep.
That big oaf was trying to reassure him on his last breathes.
Baji could’ve saved them. Maybe if he hadn’t exhausted himself, he wouldn’t have been declared dead on the scene.
Kazutora still regretted not being able to face his mother. She already hated him for the incident at SS Motors, and she asked her son to end their friendship as soon as she learned the first verdict. Baji was the one who confessed it in one of his letters because that idiot couldn’t hide anything from Kazutora.
But only if Baji hadn’t gotten in the way of his knife, maybe Kazutora would’ve done anything and beyond to earn Ryoko’s forgiveness instead of spending his days wondering when Baji’s next letter would arrive.
Kazutora couldn’t change the past. What was done, was done.
He wondered if he ever told Baji how much he loved him. Did he feel it? Were his actions enough?
Kazutora still loved Baji.
Love felt like such a strong word, but it was the only right one to accurately describe and label his feelings towards Baji. He remembered that his mom once told him that love endures all things. The only one who had been by Kazutora’s side since the day they met was Baji. And he never left him behind. He was the first one to openly calling him out for being bullied, but also stood up for him without expecting anything in return. Baji was also there during the trial. And he also followed him to Valhalla just to assure that he was safe.
Kazutora wasn’t sure if his feelings for Baji were romantic. Both were still so young. But love didn’t have to be romantic, right? Love could be manifested in numerous ways…
Even in a destructive manner, just like his parents had shown him. And the way in which Kazutora himself had loved, ending the life of the only person that had deeply cared about him.
Yet, he was still holding to the delusion of receiving another Baji’s letter to keep himself sane.
His gaze was already lost, looking at nowhere in specific, when he heard a distant voice calling him.
Hanemiya, it seems like your little girlfriend finally forgave you for coming back to this hole. You got a letter.
Not even the warden’s mocking made Kazutora react. Silently, he just took the letter and walked back to his bunk bed. It wasn’t exactly quiet, but his cellmate was somewhere else.
The calligraphy on the envelope was different. It was cleaner than Baji’s, even elegant. If he didn’t know better that the only girl he actually talked to before juvie was Emma, he could’ve believed it was indeed a girl who wrote that letter to him.
Hanemiya-san,
I don’t think we have truly met, and it isn’t like I really want to because you’re far from being my favorite person right now. But Baji-san wouldn’t forgive me if I left you alone… Whatever. My name’s Chifuyu Matsuno, vice-captain of the Tokyo Manji First Division…
