I'm in awe of your posts about the architectural details of MDZS/CQL -- and so grateful. As a fanfic writer, it's really helped me visualize the territory. I'd like to correct one detail... my degree is in Asian Studies with a focus on the spread of Buddhism across Asia. The Southern Song dynasty neo-Confucians laid claim to the lotus imagery, but it is Buddhist, dating back to the Han in China, and further back in India.
Thank you @icarusancalion! For the compliment and your correction💛 It has, quite predictably, lead me down a fresh rabbit hole of research. One, I realise, I should have paid more attention to in the first place. For others' clarity, I believe this is the passage you're referring to within my Lotus Pier set study:
Tumblr media
The first passage paraphrases the article linked in the text (and here, for anyone who would like to access it directly now) that talks about Chinese philosopher Zhou Dunyi's work 'On the Love of the Lotus', in which he ties the lotus flower symbollically to what the article calls his 'anthrocosmic vision'. The article further talks about Zhou Dunyi's, or Zhou Lianxi's, "embrace of Daoist and Buddhist notions" and how he was regarded as a controversial thinker: highly influential for his reformation of traditional Confucian ideals, and the later emergence of neo-Confucionism. I admittedly only focused on the passages relating to the lotus imagery at the time, and didn't consider the context this article (notably: the only source I chose to find on Zhou Dunyi at the time) was laying out with regard to his Buddhist and Daoist influences as a Confucian scholar.
It's also the lack of research on my part that lead to my neglect of mentioning the intricate relationship of these three pillars of religious philosophy in China: Confucianism in earlier dynasties, its sometimes-conflict with Taoism, and Buddhism's earlier introduction to China. (Plus, the growing word count was also a factor.) And frankly, when it comes to the lotus imagery in particular, I didn't pay Buddhism its due: I was focused on the article regarding 'On the Love of the Lotus', which doesn't actually mention the prevailance of the lotus in Buddhist symbology for the poem's context - although wikipedia, of all places, does. It briefly states that Zhou Dunyi "borrowed from Gautama Buddha's famous metaphor", regrettably without a source. Crucially, though, I was aware that the lotus symbolism had its origins in Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra, as mentioned by the second source cited in the original text, I just clean forgot to mention it, and ended up equally attributing it to Daoist philosophy. So again, big thank you for your correction and insight 🙏 I'll see that the original post is reworded appropriately, although I can't do anything for the reblogs already out there. If you have any academic sources/sources with more insight than these articles that could help me or anyone interested further explore this context, please drop them in my ask box 💛 I'm not entirely happy with the credibility of that second source, and new information and perspectives are always welcome. I wish you the best for your studies! I'm only scratching the surface here, but it seems like a fascinating and expansive specialism.

The Life of Mary Sue
Note: This is a MTL and I just edited some parts, so please bear with it. Thank you.
Chapter 1
When Cheng Xueyi opened her eyes, she found herself in a strange room.
What caught her eye was a clean, off-white wall. There were two rows of light gray sofas in the room, and the green tea soup on the coffee table was still steaming hot. It seemed to be a living room.
She was obviously dead, how could…?
"Are you awake?"
Cheng Xueyi looked around and found a slightly plump, middle-aged woman sitting next to her.
The woman's complexion was not good, and when she saw that Cheng Xueyi was awake, she put the magazine in her hand aside, and said in a sarcastic tone, "I really admire how you can still fall asleep at this time.
"President Xu will be here soon. Remember to apologize sincerely, and obtain his understanding no matter what. Otherwise, he will really throw a piece of contract termination, and you will have no place to cry!" When she said this, she became more and more angry, and couldn't help but viciously spit, "Why did you provoke him?"
Cheng Xueyi was a little confused. What was going on? Why couldn't she understand a word?
However, in the next second, large chunks of strange memories suddenly flooded in her mind.
According to these memories, Cheng Xueyi learned that she actually transmigrated!
She transmigrated into a book called "The President's Pampered Dodder Flower". The female lead, Lianxi, was a beautiful, weak, little white flower, while the male lead, Xu Qiyan, was a wealthy president of an entertainment company. And Cheng Xueyi, transmigrated as a supporting female lead that has the same name as her.
This female supporting role was a small 18th-line actress. In the book, the description of her was that she was somewhat similar to the heroine - weak and beautiful, but unfortunately, she was stupid and vicious. She was obsessed with the male lead. Xu Qiyan loved Lianxi so much, so how could he tolerate the supporting female lead repeatedly acting like a demon. With a flick of a finger, the cannon fodder, Cheng Xueyi, was easily ruined and tragically withdrawn from the entertainment circle.
For a moment, Cheng Xueyi didn't know whether to be happy or sad.
Speaking of which, she was an unlucky ghost in her past life. She had no father nor mother when she was young. Not to mention her miserable experience, her life had been unsatisfactory everywhere.
Among other things, she was a background performer but was worse than others. She has good looks and professional skills, but she hasn't even gotten a single line in her three years of practice. She was known as a professional corpse and passer-by.
When she was most disheartened, she met a fortune teller who said that when she turned 22 years old, her life would undergo a shocking reversal.
Cheng Xueyi believed in his words, and started to work hard again. But guess what, she was hit and killed by a car at the gate of Nanyuan Film and Television City on the first day of being 22 years old.
She thought the other party was a liar, but she didn't expect that when she opened her eyes, it was really a big reversal.
Although it was a bit hard to put it through, but as the saying goes, it was better to live than to die, wasn't it?
"Are you listening?" Su Yu, her manager, saw that Cheng Xueyi didn't say a word for a long time, and her tone rose an octave in an instant.
Cheng Xueyi rubbed her aching head: "Wait for me to stroke my head first."
Su Yu: "?"
The memories were still a bit confusing, and it took Cheng Xueyi a long time to finally figure out the ins and outs of the current situation.
It turned out that the original owner boldly stepped forward to flirt with Xu Qiyan when he was alone at a party yesterday, and then impetuously shoved him a room card!
But how could such a cold, and arrogant person as the President be interested in a woman who sends herself to his door? He threw the room card lightly on the ground and said indifferently, "Wait for the termination contract." After that, he left without looking back.
The original owner was an artist under Xu Qiyan's company, Sheng Jia. Su Yu was shocked when she heard that the artist she brought had sexually harassed the President, so she tried every means to bring Cheng Xueyi to apologize to Xu Qiyan, hoping to turn the tide.
Cheng Xueyi was glad that the current situation was not too bad, the female lead has not yet appeared at this time, so it was impossible for the original owner to be removed from the current storyline so quickly.
Today, she would apologize to Xu Qiyan, and as long as she stays away from him, works hard and does not act like a demon, a happy life is just around the corner.
Cheng Xueyi felt a little more relaxed, and her expression was no longer so tense. The corner of her lips was slightly curved.
"Sister Su, don't worry, I will talk to President Xu."
As soon as the words fell, the door was pushed open.
Cheng Xueyi and Su Yu subconsciously looked towards the door.
A tall man entered. He was wearing a light blue shirt. His broad but not exaggerated back muscles supported the shirt very nicely. Her eyes travelled upwards to his slender neck, and the prominent adam's apple exudes strong hormonal scent.
A beautiful little secretary followed him, and he whispered something to the other party as he walked.
The man's eyes were dark and sharp, but a pair of gold-rimmed glasses added a bit of elegance, which neutralized the cold temperament exuding from his body a little, and he looked very much like the gentle scum that people said.
No wonder the original owner was obsessed with him. Cheng Xueyi had never seen such a good-looking man in her previous life.
She was stunned, but Su Yu was the first to react and called out, "President Xu."
Cheng Xueyi hurriedly greeted as well.
Xu Qiyan nodded slightly, his expression was indifferent from beginning to end.
He sat down on the sofa with his long legs, and said bluntly: "I don't have much time, please make it short."
Su Yu knew that this man has a lot of things to deal with, so she didn't hesitate.
"Then I'll just say, President. Xu, what happened yesterday was a misunderstanding. Our Xueyi offended you because she drank too much. Please give her another chance. This child has just debuted not long ago. If Sheng Jia terminates the contract, her future will be ruined."
Su Yu was Sheng Jia's veteran manager, and she brought out many big names in the early years. But as several big-name artists in her hands have established themselves, she hadn't picked up a decent newcomer for many years. And now, among the company's newcomers, Cheng Xueyi's appearance was the most outstanding and she was cultivated on purpose, so she couldn't give her up.
Xu Qiyan raised his eyebrows slightly, and his tone was slightly mocking: "Drank too much?" He turned his eyes and looked at Cheng Xueyi, "Really?"
"…Yes!"
Cheng Xueyi was quietly kicked by Su Yu.
The meaning of this kick was obvious: If you still want to remain in the circle, you should quickly submit.
Cheng Xueyi didn't have any merits either, so it was important to be measured.
She lowered her eyebrows and explained in a soft tone, "President Xu, I really drank too much yesterday, so I offended you by acting inappropriately. Please…forgive me."
What kind of crime did she do that she actually had to admit that she had offended a man?
But Cheng Xueyi had to acknowledge that the other party was someone she couldn't afford to offend, so even if she felt unwilling to apologize, she was still very sincere.
Xu Qiyan pursed his thin lips and said nothing.
Cheng Xueyi was a little confused by the sudden silence. Was her desire to survive not strong enough?
Just when she was racking her brains to think about what to say, there was a sudden commotion outside, and the panicked voice of the little secretary could be heard: "Mr. Shi, President Xu has guests now, you can't go in…"
Before the voice finished speaking, a tall and thin young man had opened the door and walked in.
For a moment, there was silence in the air.
The young man was wearing a black sweater. His skin was cold and fair enough to make all women envious. He had beautiful eyes with extremely long eyelashes, and a small tear mole at the end of his right eye.
This person looked like a sick, beautiful woman with a bit of carefree, chivalrous temperament.
Cheng Xueyi was startled. What kind of beauty was this? Were all the men in the novel so good-looking?
The little secretary stood at the door with a worried expression: "President Xu, I'm sorry, I couldn't stop…"
Xu Qiyan didn't seem to care, he leaned on the sofa and said in a deep voice: "It's okay, you go out first."
The strange man leaned against the door and smiled lazily, "President Xu, deal with your business first and I'll wait here."
Xu Qiyan didn't respond to him, his sharp black eyes rurned at Cheng Xueyi, his curled knuckles knocked on the edge of the coffee table intentionally or unintentionally. Slowly he said: "I will not pursue what happened yesterday.
"As long as you abide by your duty in the future."
His expression showed the arrogance and indifference of someone in a high position, which made Cheng Xueyi tremble.
"President Xu, don't worry," Su Yu immediately reassured, "I promise there will never be a next time, right, Xueyi?"
"Yes, yes, I promise." She almost raised her three fingers to swear to God.
"Okay," Xu Qiyan lowered his eyes, as if he didn't want to see her flattering face, "you can go."
He issued the order to evict guests, and Cheng Xueyi quickly got up and prepared to leave as if she had received an amnesty. But she just got up when she heard the man on the opposite side said in his cool and pleasant voice,
"Miss Cheng, I would like to advise you again, it is better to put more effort into acting than to go sideways."

Song Yi as marriage-crazy Dai Xixi
Yet another female ensemble drama, Astringent Girl, finished up filming and released its first set of stills. Of all the upcoming female ensemble dramas, this one and Nothing by Thirty have my favorite casts, so I’m really hoping it’ll be good. Can’t tell much so far other than the lighting and costumes look solid.
