Today- GaoQiao (pt.2)
And around a month or so later, I finally update! I will do my best to upload pt.3 as soon as possible, hopefully within the week, as I will be out of the country for a month~
I tried to keep the story as close to canon as possible, so many of the conversations have happened in the novel.
Please tell me if there are any mistakes! im so tired rn
Warning- pretty OOC
Gao Yingjie’s POV (Today): pt.1/pt.2/pt.3
Qiao Yifan’s POV (Yesterday):
Tomorrow:
It wasn’t a bad change, so to speak. It was really positive- Yingjie couldn’t be happier! The only problem was how Yifan had changed. The first time he had noticed Yifan acting strange was after his fight against God Ye Qiu- he was smiling, a true, real smile, one that Gao Yingjie had not seen for a while.
Gao Yingjie was returning from a talk with the Captain when he saw that Yifan had finished his match- and that he was smiling.
Pretty.
“Yifan, what are you smiling at?” Yingjie tried to hide the blush on his face, but then saw that Qiao Yifan was zoning out a lot, not even paying attention to the current match.
Qiao Yifan immediately dropped his smile.
Damn.
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
Not wanting to push the matter further, Gao Yingjie returned to his seat.
It seemed as if Qiao Yifan no longer had time to be with Gao Yingjie. At night, Yifan would be busy, staying up late to either play Glory or to read on his laptop. Whenever Gao Yingjie would try to investigate in curiousity, Yifan would quickly close the screen. Qiao Yifan would usually wake up late, but now he seemed to get up even earlier than the Captain. If Qiao Yifan wasn’t in his bed, then he was usually in the training room. Yingjie had asked many times if Qiao Yifan was playing Glory, and if he wanted Yingjie to play with him, but Yifan would always politely decline.
Maybe he’s seeing someone...
The thought made Yingjie’s heart hurt. The idea that his best friend could be in love with someone else…he wanted to cry.
Gao Yingjie’s idea that Qiao Yifan was seeing someone was almost cemented one afternoon.
Qiao Yifan was even more ecstatic then he usually was recently.
“What happened, Yifan? You seem really happy.” Is there something you want to tell me? Please? Tell me what’s going on. I can’t stand not knowing. I can’t stand not knowing if you’re seeing someone else.
“Hehe, am I really?” Qiao Yifan had a foolish grin on his face as he rubbed his head sheepishly.
“Are you okay?” Yingjie jokingly -he just wanted to touch him- reached out to Yifan’s forehead, to check if he was sick or something, something to show that there was an explanation for Qiao Yifan’s unusual behavior, one that didn’t include Qiao Yifan in the arms of another.
Qiao Yifan dodged his hand, and replied, ”Nothing’s wrong! I’m completely fine. Hurry, practice is starting.” He sat down, and the grin that was threatening to emerge didn’t escape Yingjie’s gaze.
After practice, Qiao Yifan had dashed off. Yingjie was called to speak with Wang Jiexi, but he continued to wonder about Qiao Yifan. He looked for him in the dining hall, and asked around if anyone had seen him. He called Yifan, only to be told that he was coming back soon.
Yingjie intercepted Yifan as he returned, but when he had asked where he went, Yifan only mentioned a short walk, then immediately closed the door. Yingjie waited outside for a few minutes, staring at the door that was blocking him from his friend. He considered knocking again, but then sighed, and walked away.
It wasn’t until the All-Stars Rookie Challenge that Gao Yingjie understood the truth. He had somehow- by some miracle of nature, or a glitch, anything could be possible - defeated Wang Jiexi. His head was still swimming, as he almost didn’t notice the announcer call out his boyfriend, no, friend’s name. Of course, Yifan had told him that he would sign up. What he didn’t expect was that Qiao Yifan would be facing Li Xuan, not Yang Cong. However, the fact that Qiao Yifan would be using a Ghostblade hadn’t shocked him, but instead answered many questions.
As he watched his friend attempt to fight a completely one-sided duel, Gao Yingjie pondered over this new revelation.
Yifan...was probably excited about playing as a ghostblade… staying up late to practice...he probably went to a net cafe so he could play without us watching him...secretly looking at guides...Yifan, why couldn’t you tell me? We could’ve played together, I hated being apart from you.
“What is Qiao Yifan doing? His play is too embarrassing, no?”
Gao Yingjie snapped his head to Liang Fang, his face stone cold. You...You know nothing, don’t you? You don’t understand...he’s never showed any sign of playing a Ghostblade...he probably hasn’t played that long… and yet he still signed up. So many people watching. How much courage would that require? Could you even do this yoursel-
“Sit.”
Gao Yingjie’s gaze turned to his captain, who was watching Yifan coldy. Not you too, senior…
Soon after, Yifan was defeated. Li Xuan praised YIfan, yet he looked dull and lifeless. Calling out his name, Gao Yingjie tried to chase down Yifan but soon lost him.
Please…
“Yifan!” After scanning the entryways, Gao Yingjie finally saw Yifan emerge.
“I went to the restroom.” Qiao Yifan quickly gave a small explanation as Yingjie began explaining all that Yifan had missed. The atmosphere was amiable, Yifan was smiling, and Yingjie was contnet.
This is nice...Yifan, I hope that we can be like this forever. Please, don’t leave me.
Yingjie watched silently, trying to ignore the fact that Yifan was packing to leave. By all means, he knew that he should help, but by doing so, wouldn’t he be hastening Yifan’s departure? Even if he only spent a few more seconds with Yifan, that would be fine by him. To Yingjie, every moment was precious, every moment with Yifan was to be savored.
I...I have to tell him. Today.
He had done all he could to keep Yifan on the team, even begging for Wang Jiexi to say anything to the boss. Alas, the only response was that Qiao Yifan just didn’t fit in well with the team. Internally, Yingjie knew that. Yifan wasn’t improving with his assassin. And Tiny Herb already had a capable Ghostblade. Why would they need another one? Then why are you here, Yingjie. If Tiny Herb can have two witches, they can have two Ghostblades. They can keep Yifan.
He tried not to cry as he walked Yifan out of Tiny Herb. “What are you going to do?”
“Me?” Yifan smiled, appearing less anxious than Gao Yingjie. “First, I think I’m going to find an internet cafe.
Ah? Gao Yingjie was almost speechless. “You said you wanted to go where?”
“Don’t worry. Just train and improve. I promise that I will be back.”
“Oh…”
“Unfortunately, we won’t be teammates, unable to play side by side.”
“That won’t matter. We’ll always be friends.”
“Of course.”
“I guess I shall see you off now?”
“Yeah…” Yifan entered the taxi and drove off.
Gao Yingjie watched the road Yifan had disappeared on, his heart hurting.
I never got to tell him…
Yifan, I love you. Please, come back soon.
