As fair as the chances were to L. Draxl, even if it took until the last game of the first set for the first break of serve, safe to say that A. Blockx's pace overwhelmed the Canadian by the end of the match. From there, the Belgian scored more shot winners, some of which contributed to his 6 break points, converting 50% of them as he brought L. Draxl off-balance, even barring the physical issue from the middle of the second set. To add, A. Blockx's solid play also did not let L. Draxl to either create or convert some opportunities, thus the second set became a contrast to the first on its flow.

Furthermore, A. Blockx also had an excellent serving percentage as the second set became a one-way traffic. Scoring 5 aces than L. Draxl's 0, the unseeded Belgian won 75% of his first serve points, 20% more than the latter as he controlled a lot of the second set's flow. Somehow, the former had the slight edge on his second serves by 1% due to L. Draxl double-faulting thrice, which also added more trouble to his serving situation.

This marked A. Blockx's second Challenger-level title after winning the Kobe Challenger in late 2024, propelling his rank to 146 by the end of the tournament as he reached the Top 150 for the first time. For both players, their national duties in Davis Cup Qualifiers await, as A. Blockx will be a part of the Belgian squad against Chile in Hasselt, while L. Draxl might lead Canada (upon the withdrawal of Denis Shapovalov due to some back pain) in their home tie against Hungary. Those could be neat!

Canadians Liam Draxl and Cleeve Harper captured their fourth ATP Challenger doubles title as a team after defeating first seeds Matwé Middelkoop and Denys Molchanov 1-6, 7-5, [10-6] at the 100 event in Oeiras yesterday. Compared to the competitive first set, the second set became a one-way affair once L. Draxl's physical issues occurred. After 3 consecutive holds, the Canadian took a medical timeout for presumably his back/shoulder, which affected his service games in one way or another. In the fourth game, A. Blockx's forehand return winner paved the way before he broke to 3-1, and even if L. Draxl had 2 working passes to start the next game, A. Blockx still held his serves to 4-1.

In the next game, the unseeded Belgian continued with another forehand winner midway through before L. Draxl lobbed his way to close the gap. However, the latter erred his forehand that generated A. Blockx's break point before he doubled his break advantage to 5-1. As a result, A. Blockx earned his chance to serve for the match, where even though he conceded a point at its start, he scored 2 aces to seal the match with the second-set breadstick (6-1), winning him his second Challenger title.
