In the skies above the currently tense Red Sea, Captain Earl Ehrhart V of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) became a possible ace of aviation by shooting down what he claims to have been seven kamikaze drones of the Houthi rebels.

In a BBC report, Captain Earl Ehrhart, pilot of the AV-8B Harrier II jet with the Marine Middle Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162, attached to the elite of the 26ª Marine Expeditionary Unit (with special operations capacity) (MEU (SOC)) claimed to have shot down the seven Houthi kamikaze drones during operations in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, conducted from the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5).

The operations highlighted the adaptability and innovation involved in responding to Houthi threats. "We toot a Harrier jet and modified it for air defense. We carried it with missiles and so we were able to respond to drone attacks," Ehrhart explained to the BBC. This tactical adjustment was crucial to effectively combat the drone attacks of the Houthi rebels, which Ehrhart described as "a robust and capable force". The success of these missions highlights the technological and strategic advances made by the U.S. military forces to maintain superiority in increasingly complex combat environments.

The AV-8B Harrier II are agile aircraft, with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capabilities, which offer unparalleled flexibility and fast response in the region's complex airspace.

When the Houthi of Yemen began firing missiles and piloting drones against commercial ships in the Red Sea, the crew of the USS Bataan sent the jets to try to shoot them down.

"I never imagined that I would do this when we left," says the main pilot, Captain Earl Ehrhart. "They are shooting us all the time, so we need to be even more focused. Our systems need to be prepared so that we can stay safe."

Captain Ehrhart and his fellow pilots Harrier play a crucial role in safeguarding maritime traffic and deterring the Houthi aggression that operates within the area of responsibility of the U.S. Fifth Fleet. Its count of neutralized drones underlines the effectiveness of naval aviation in combating emerging threats and maintaining regional stability.

Although the details of specific missions remain confidential, Captain Ehrhart's achievements speak for themselves. With seven drones victims of the accuracy of their Harrier, Captain Ehrhart's name is engraved among the ranks of those who guard the skies. Although the traditional definition of "ace" may be evolving in the era of drones, his achievements speak a lot about his exceptional talent and courage.

Armed with an active AMRAAM missile and a Litening pod, an AV-8B takes off from the USS Bataan during flight operations.

If this is confirmed, Ehrhart would be recognized as the first American "ace" since the Vietnam War, a title prestigiously reserved for pilots who won five or more victories in air combat.

The United States Air Force has criteria for granting air victory credits that cover the destruction of enemy air vehicles, manned or not, armed or not. This policy indicates a recognition of the evolutionary nature of air threats and combat, extending the possibility of achieving "ace" status to combat with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Historically, there are precedents for the attribution of the status of ace in unconventional contexts. During World War II, Lieutenant Frank Luke, known as the "Arizona Balloon Buster", was credited for the destruction of 14 German observation balloons before his death in combat.

The brake hydraulic circuit must be bled whenever the vehicle has been operated with the reservoir brake fluid level at an excessively low level or any time the brake pipes have been disconnected in the course of brake servicing.

The brake bleeding procedure requires the cooperative action of two men.

Brake Bleeding Procedure Bleed the brake hydraulic circuit in the following se- quence. LHD Left-hand rear wheel (vehicle equipped with ABS) → Right-hand rear wheel → DSPV or LSPV → (If so equipped) → Right-hand front wheel → Left-hand front wheel RHD Left-hand rear wheel (vehicle equipped with ABS) → Right-hand rear wheel → DSPV or LSPV (If so equipped) → Left-hand front wheel → Right-hand front wheel

1. Check to make sure that the service area is well ventilated. Apply the parking brake firmly. Start the engine and allow it to run until the vacuum pressure rises suf- ficiently.

Notice: Brake booster (master-vac) will be adversely effected if bleeding operation is performed without running engine. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, be sure to remove the ABS fuse (60 A) from the fuse box before beginning the air bleeding procedure. If this is not done, air is not bled completely from ABS unit, so that ABS unit will be broken. (Be sure to install the ABS fuse (60 A) in speci- fied position when the air bleeding procedure is complet- ed.)

2. Fill the brake fluid reservoir (1) up to the “MAX” lev- el with clean brake fluid.

It may be necessary to replenish the brake fluid reservoir several times during the bleeding proce- dure to maintain the required level of brake fluid.

Notice: Pour the brake fluid carefully so as not to produce air bubbles. 3. Remove the right hand rear wheel cylinder (left hand rear wheel cylinder if ABS is equipped) bleed- er screw rubber cap and wipe it clean. 4. Connect one end of a vinyl tube (2) to the bleeder screw. 5. Insert the other end of the vinyl tube into a trans- parent container approximately 1/3 full of brake flu- id. 6. Depress the brake pedal (3) slowly 3 times and hold it depressed.

7. Loosen the bleeder screw (4) approximately 1/2 of a turn.

This will release the brake fluid with air bubbles into the transparent container (5).

9. Slowly release the brake pedal.

10. Replace the bleeder screw rubber cap.

Notice:

In order to bleed the air completely from the brake line, repeat the above procedures.

Bleeding of the brake fluid circuit should be performed for front wheel 10 times or more, for rear wheel 15 times or more.

11. Repeat Steps 3 through 10 for each bleeder screws as mentioned before.

er there is no abnormality in operation of the brake system. 13. After the air bleeding procedure for individual wheel is completed, inspect the fluid level of the reservoir tank. If it is insufficient, replenish brake fluid. Do not overfill above “MAX” level. 14. Stop the engine.

How many LHD ships does the U.S. have?

The LHD's had 8 built, the 7 Wasp class LHD-1 through LHD-7, and the somewhat variant LHD-8 Makin Island. LHD-6 was recently decommissioned, so 7 LHD remain. The LHA's America class have 2 complete, LHA-6 and LHA-7, with LHA-8 under construction. A total of 11 are planned.Feb 13, 2021

Fire at MiG factory in Moscow

A fire occurred at the Russian aircraft factory MiG Aircraft Corporation, which produces and maintains combat jets.

The Russian media reported that the fire occurred in one of the production workshops of the MiG factory in the Russian capital Moscow. This place is under reconstruction, but it is in front of the main factory building.

The fire in an area of 70 square meters was located on the second and third floors of the building and all employees were evacuated. The cause of the fire is unknown.

According to local media, from 2 p.m. the fire managed to be extinguished. The roof of the building was damaged and the firefighters continue to work on site.

Currently the factory that caught fire was under reconstruction.

MiG Aircraft Corporation MiG has several production facilities and administrative buildings. The company manufactures a range of aviation products and provides support for aircraft of its own production.

During the Soviet era, the aircraft manufacturer created a series of combat aircraft, such as the Ukrainian MiG-29 fighters, Russian MiG-31 interceptor aircraft and their modifications that currently use Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic missiles launched from the air.

In April 2021, stalkers entered the territory of this factory and filmed the state of the workshops. They sneaked through a hole in the fence and got unimpeded access to many of the factory buildings.

Bloggers have discovered remnants of production tools, equipment, MiG-29 fighter fuselages and several prototypes of Russian MiG-AT training aircraft.

The MiG factory is developing a new MiG-UTS training aircraft.
