It didn't bother me, no. I think, look, I'm nearly 40 years old. So, I remember being in my mid-20s and I remember, when I go back and look at things that I said that I would've said differently or I would've acted differently and I know what it's like when you come out of the race, where you feel like you should've won and your emotions are spiralling so, I see that and I'm like, it's an age thing. And, you know, I don't take it personally.

Ultimately all us drivers, all us competitors, we do put a lot of pressure on ourselves. That's how we do what we do and I don't think you can be particularly great without putting pressure on yourself in life. You've gotta aim high and you know, if you fail and you're like, that's the greatest thing ever and you're really relaxed about it, I don't think you're ever gonna naturally achieve what you can potentially achieve.

Can you be too hard on yourself? For sure. There was a time when I didn't leave my room for three days when I was his age so I know what it's like. And that wasn't healthy for me but I don't think Lando's locking himself in his room for three days at the moment and I hope he doesn't! *laughs* I think what's important is just continue to do what he's doing. He's driving great, they've got a great car and just need to keep working together as a team. - Lewis Hamilton

“When he [Bono] said it was ‘Hammer Time’, I did notice in the moment, I was like, 'that’s the last time I’m going to hear that. It really clicked for me in that moment. But a really, really hard race, naturally, from where I was [on the grid]. I didn't get as great a start as this one here [Charles]! My new teammate! The first stint was really, really difficult. I wasn’t losing hope, but I was just like, ‘ah, it’s not going as well as I thought it would.’ But I just didn’t give up, kept pushing, ‘come on we can get there’. Switched onto the different [medium] tyres and the car came alive. But I had a massive gap to close, so I just focused on getting just absolutely everything from the car and not giving up. I just wanted to finish on as much as a high, and just give every ounce of me to the team as they’ve given to me all of these years.” There will always be a piece of your heart with these guys "Look when I left MCL - and even still today... First of all congratulations to MCL, they've not won since... We really won in 2007, but since before that now. Even though I left I always wished them well. I never had any negativity towards them. That's gonna be the same for Mercedes. If we're not winning I hope that there all shining and doing a great job. I've gotta say: Huge thank you to Mercedes who have supported me since I was 13. And to this team who supported me since 2013. We've had the highest of highs together and the lowest of lows together, but we've done it together. And it's how we got up each time. Shown up and just given our all every time. I'm just so proud of everyone back at the factory. A big big thank you to everyone back at the factory. I'm gonna see them next week anyways. The emotional rollercoaster is far from over.

Fight for WDC next year? "I know that when I joined Mercedes the first 6 month was tough, because obviously you're getting accustomed to something new. The people, new ways of working: so I anticipate it's gonna be that journey. But it's an amazing team. Still hard to believe that this is like happening, but I'm excited about it and obviously they finished off strong. So hopefully we can start from where they've finished this year. There's gonna be a lot of areas I'm sure to improve on as I will try to do as an athlete and driver."

Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton’s Met Gala look was inspired by the story of John Ystumllyn, one of Britain’s first Black gardeners, and by the language of flowers in Black history.

His outfit was hand-embroidered for two weeks by a team of 20 before the finishing touches were painted by hand in New York over the weekend.

“It was a really good day. I enjoyed today, I hit the ground running from the get-go and made incremental steps with the set-up – and for once felt like we didn’t have steps that we had to come back on, it was consistently building. I don’t know how my long run is compared to others but we didn’t get a huge amount of laps. Yeah, I think Red Bull seem pretty quick, as does the Ferrari, but we are there or thereabouts.”

“On this day you don’t know what fuel loads everyone is on and often when we get to P3 or particularly when we get to qualifying everyone takes a step and we haven’t so far, we haven’t always.
