star-crossed
"Aren't we fated, Yichen?"
He was feeling optimistic that the two of them would grow closer by the end of filming, or he would have no other choice to lay it on thick for the rest of the year until he softened Yichen's heart. He could always sense that their contrasting personalities would be a challenge to overcome, but if there was something that Noeul loved was an impossible challenge. Perhaps, he was overly dramatizing their differences for the sake of the show, but regardless, he knew that he would have to work for Yichen's trust and persistency was key.
He had insisted on holding hands for the eye contact segment, which the original segment alone would be difficult for the two of them, especially with an entire filming crew staring at them. Admittedly, Intimate Note was more fun when there was a level of authenticity followed through by the pairing. He didn't see the point of putting on an act. He steps on the marking on the floor, fingers delicately curling around the man's palms. He gives one palm a light squeeze, eyebrow quirking mischievously at the man. "Are your hands typically cold, or warm?"

✰ ◞ WHITE FLAG. a momentary stalemate ( ft. @lgcakio ).
never in her wildest imagination would nina have ever seen herself where she is now, the familiar surroundings of the legacy cafe devoid of its usual life in favor of a rather dense film crew, herself, and her greatest mistake.
akio was her friend ( one in the strangest of ways, but a friend she unfortunately did find herself caring about nonetheless ), there was no denying that undying fact, but that did little to lessen the odd sense of anxiety turning in the pit of ninas stomach— honestly, how was she meant to feel, sitting face to face before her ex with the intent of becoming less awkward in front of cameras?
what a doozy this was, but . . . at least she was certain she wasn't the only one slightly on edge by all of this.
filming had only just started, their first segment for what was sure to be a long day of filming underway— first impressions. "the earliest memory i have of you is of the two us catching the same elevator during one of my first weeks as a trainee," nina begins, a brow raising as she peers at akio. a vague, innocent truth that glosses over what that meeting had momentarily morphed into. "i'd seen you before, obviously, walking around the halls here and there, but that's the first time i can remember actually speaking to you— you were a lot more talkative than i was expecting."

【 INTIMATE NOTE (SPRING 2024) / DEAR NOEUL... 】 ✎... 250 words
yichen wasn't the most expressive person when it came to giving compliments. he preferred showing his appreciation through small actions, like purposely ordering a lot of food and leaving the 'leftovers' untouched for his hardworking friends. so, when he had to write a letter to noeul, he took his time to pour his sincerity onto the paper.
"dear noeul,
even though we've never sat down for a proper conversation before, i'm so glad that the person i have to do this show with is you. at first, i thought you were just another chaotic guy in our future group, but after going through this experience, i realize there's more to you than i thought. besides teasing me (which i hope you enjoyed), i can't help but notice a certain level of maturity in you. when given a chance to draw on my face, i expected something silly or ugly, but instead, i got two little hearts.
i feel this show is doing a great job at bringing two people closer because i have a more positive impression of you now than before. since we'll be seeing more of each other in the future, i hope we can cast aside the awkwardness and hang out more often. i look forward to the fun times we'll be sharing together as a group.
yichen."
after writing the letter, yichen decided to decorate it with tiny doodles of his own. hopefully, these drawings would tone down the seriousness and add a hint of playfulness.

over the course filming the show, there were many segments where he and seona had the opportunity to get closer. and the first portion was a perfect definition of tense. two magnets that were end to end, and unwilling to yield. he expected nothing less of adventurous, because well - when the concept of intimate note even came up... he could barely think of anyone other than seona to fit the bill as his, dare he say, perfect costar.
but there were surprising things. he has little to say, since he's never been great with words. one look at his Instagram and at his reluctance in even getting one, a platform for photos for heaven's sake, already gave the model such trouble. sorry in advance, seona. which is... precisely how he starts the letter.
"sorry in advance seona, but... here goes nothing.
thank you for agreeing to come to be on intimate note me. i hope you don't regret it. i was quite surprised when you agreed to sign up with me, and even more surprised that they took us on as a pair. i wonder if we were memorable, or if people were hoping for our segment to end? i am thinking we were memorable. it was genuinely a one of a kind experience that i don't think could be replicated. and i am not only meaning on the show, but also from our first meeting up until our appearance on said show.
i do have to say, your taste in drinks is something else, and i will probably never drink something that tastes like that again but each to their own. the show probably did show everyone, including each other, some things about you and me that we weren't aware of.
guess i can say, you always keep me on my toes, and in a way, it will always push me to strive for more, so thank you. i hope we can work together soon."
#girl u know that jisoo sucks at writing#i'd write u a love poem but he would not sorry#HAHAHAHA#lgc:intimatenote#( lgcseona )

✰ ◞ WET INK. an honest mind ( solo ).
nina feels like she's expiring, her mind boggling as she stares at the empty sheet of parchment paper set before her, ballpoint pen clutched between heavy fingers as her mind stilts to an uncommon halt. she'd never thought something like this would plague her, the task of needing to write a letter not being uncommon, but needing to direct its contents to that of one of her most questionable friends?
that was tough.
she'd always been one for expression when it came to setting ink upon paper, lyricism and musical production a hobby in which that very action, more often than not, needed to be taken, but this was an entirely different beast— there was no room for true sincerity, not when her words were to be seen by the likes of people who had no real business looking into their relationship with one another, their connection being an odd one, but prevalent nonetheless. akio was her friend, yes, but he was more than that.
he was childish, annoying, stubbornly caring despite the general actions he took in showcasing those feelings ( with nina, at least ). while often the bane of her existence, he was a nuisance nina had learned to accept, a nuisance she'd grown comfortable in returning the favor towards when she was in the mood.
today had only highlighted the significance of his presence within her life, despite her previous thoughts, their bond seeming to grow as words were exchanged, and maybe, just maybe . . . akio had become even more of a friend than he'd already been.
akio, you have a lot more layers to you than i'd originally thought. don't get used to hearing this, but . . . i'm sorry for not having noticed that fact sooner. you're thoughtful, you've always been thoughtful, but i think the sheer amount of differences between us during our trainee days made it more difficult for us to find common ground. not to say we're still not incredibly different— preferring snowy days, i can understand, but having such a violent aversion to socks in bed? absolutely insane. regardless, i'm pleased to have found more of a neutral ground with you. we've seemingly got plenty to bicker over most of the time, so being able to have normal conversions every now and then . . . i think i'm content. you will always be you, and i will always be me, but knowing those two realities don't always have to clash brings a bit of peace to me. maybe this is maturity finally speaking, years of trying to fully understand myself only now paying off, but . . . today was nice. holding eye contact with you was awful, and so was the dalgona you ordered, but everything else? nice. i look forward to seeing how much you'll continue to grow. nina.

For their final segment, the two of them had been paired to write each other a heartfelt letter. His first question had been whether it would be read out loud. He had no reservations being honest in his letter, but he didn't want to wear his heart on his sleeve in front of the staff and then the viewers would be privy to his inner thoughts when the episode aired. He opts to take the segment seriously, spending longer than he probably should have for the sake of the shooting. Perhaps, his honesty and genuine approach would soften Yichen's heart and forgive him for never-ending teasing throughout the episode.
Dear Yichen, I was surprised that you had agreed to film the show together. I sincerely hope that you don't have any regrets, but I wouldn't hold it against you if more frustrations arose rather than resolutions to our differences. I commend you for the level of patience you've offered me. Maybe, you should be in charge of leading the fight against world peace. Alright, I'll stop teasing... I promise to make it up to you for losing the eye contact segment and inevitably having to taste that bitter herbal concoction. I'll take you out whenever you want and we can share a delicious meal together. My treat, okay? In all honesty, I do want us to be closer. I think it's clear that we're the opposite sides of a coin, but that doesn't have to be a hindrance. I want us to be able to lean on each other in the future. I find you to be more reserve than the other members. It's more difficult to know what you're thinking, or how you're feeling. I think it would be beneficial if we were more open with each other. We've set off in a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we've worked so hard to achieve and has led us to walk down the same path side by side. I had asked you if we were fated earlier, but I really do mean it. It wasn't our decision to debut together, but we were chosen by the powers that be... I have close friends and family that I rely on constantly, but no one is able to understand the emotional whiplash we experience daily as a trainee, as an artist... I don't want our relationship to be forceful. I'll leave the door open for you to find me whenever you need a confidant, or a different perspective. I promise to meet you in the middle and be more mindful in the future about your boundaries. I think we can learn a lot from each other. I've always said that I would rather have people in my life that challenge me over people that want an easygoing relationship. With you, I've met my match, hm? Sincerely, N. P.S. If all fails, music will bond us, aha.

having experience with herbal drinks since he was young gave yichen an advantage. even though the staff rejected his request, he had another trick up his sleeve to avoid tasting the bitterness. if he couldn't pinch his nose, he could hold his breath while downing the drink. technically, it's normal to do that while swallowing liquid, as the airway closes to prevent the drink from entering the lungs. yichen held his breath throughout, tilting his head back to let the drink flow down his throat until he had to breathe again. the strong bitterness in the aftertaste was enough to make him scrunch his face.
with that whole thing behind him, he felt a sense of relief as they moved on to the next segment. he looked at the board with options hidden, curious to know what lay behind the stickers. "to be fair, i think this is more about personal preference than showing how close we are. i mean, we're all different," he explained, watching noeul peel off the first sticker. "ohh, definitely sunset for me too," he replied, avoiding eye contact with noeul as he peeled off the next sticker. "summer or winter… i think i'm more of a summery person, but not one who particularly enjoys sitting under the sun for too long."
He visibly deflates when Yichen doesn't play along, lower lip jutting out into a fleeting pout. He shakes his head at the Yichen's optimistic perspective. His drink looked murky, but he did have a tendency of exaggerating anything. At this point, he was praying that drink went down smoothly. He tilts his head, foregoing pinching his nose after the staff rejected Yichen's request and downs the drink like a he was enjoying a cold bottle of water. Besides the unavoidable bitterness, he didn't think the herbal undertone was too bad. "Ugh." His nose scrunched in disgust, shoulders lifting when a shiver runs down his spine. "I better live at least another year longer after drinking it all. People don't drink that regularly, right? My sinuses do feel clearer..."
He desperately wanted a gallon of water to rid himself of the aftertaste, or ten pieces of mint gum, which he felt would have helped better. However, their next challenge was awaiting them and with no mention of another punishment, he felt his shoulders losing the tension. He helps the staff with positioning the placard, options hidden behind stickers the two of them would remove. "I feel like this might be either bring us closer, or show how truly different we are?" He states with a soft laugh, peeling the sticker for the first set of opposing choices. "Sunset or Sunrise?" He reads aloud, humming softly when he meets Yichen's gaze to respond along with the man. "Sunset!"

"we don't have to drink it if—" yichen began, wanting to say they wouldn't have to drink whatever was given to them if they passed this round. but alas, the sound of the bell signaled their failure. "never mind." he tilted his head back, hands on his hips, and closed his eyes, taking deep breaths. it was such a simple game, but they had lost, and now he had to drink some weird concoction created by the staff. a disgusted look was obvious on his face when someone served them the mysterious drink on a tray.
he took his glass and sniffed it, only to pull back with a gagging expression. yichen turned his back to the camera to save his remaining dignity from the ugly expression the drink had caused. "can i pinch my nose while drinking?" he pleaded with the staff, only for his request to be rejected. "i think we should drink this normally," he suggested to noeul, smiling through gritted teeth. he had been stepping out of his comfort zone and holding his groupmate's hand for what felt like an hour, only to lose the game and now face drinking something horrible as punishment. "this is a healthy drink. it's good for your body. you'll probably live another hundred years after this."

it's amusing to see akio try and concede to her point, the action being a foreign sight considering how much the two loved to string on their senseless disagreements, but nina supposes agreeing to disagree was the best course of action to take when surrounded by cameras and film staff. petty but entertaining on their own time, they had no room to drag things on as usual, a polaroid camera now within view as they're instructed to begin the days last bit of content.
"don't make the angle silly or anything, that's what the decorating is for," nina muses, words underlined with an edge of warning, light enough to play off as a joke for the strangers around them but hopefully intentional enough for akio to understand. "i don't mind looking softer every now and then— every girl likes flowers to some extent." getting into position, nina finds herself posing rather simply, offering a pretty, relaxed smile and the tilt of her head. the flowers are a perfect embellishment to the space around her, and as they wait for the photo to develop, nina takes charge. "why don't you . . . stand over there, near the window. the lighting there is nice. can you handle the sun in you eyes for a few seconds?"
already, ninas mind wanders to what they might possibly do for their joint photo, a prospect she'd not been anticipating originally. well, they've played nice all day, common ground being found between brief moments of stubborn conversation. they've come this far, so standing together for a photo wouldn't hurt ( when the time does come, it's as awkward as many of the other things they'd been made to do already, but also humorous— briefly, nina wonders what'll happen with their doodled photos, but she supposes they'll cross that bridge when it comes ).
"be honest— how ridiculous do you plan on making me look?" nina finds herself quipping, a brow quirked once the two find themselves seated once more. stickers, pens, and markers of all sorts are placed on the table for them to use, and already, nina finds herself drawing a silly little mustache on akios face, paired with a stereotypical monocle and top hat. "i don't plan on holding back, so . . . go crazy."
unlike the previous segments, akio finds this one very amusing rather than awkward or daunting. he has fun trying to guess nina’s answers in his head and realizing that they have a lot more similarities than he anticipated. not that he believed they were too fundamentally different, but they butt heads so often that one would assume they would disagree on pretty much everything. it seems like their bickering originates out of thin air… mostly.
“why is it crazier than keeping your socks on? i never get cold feet at night, if anything they get too warm and i need to stick one out from under the covers to regulate my temperature. but i guess if you have cold feet, socks could help…” he’s trying really hard to reach a compromise, mostly for the camera’s sake. if they were in private, they would be defending their stance with a lot more passion. “if i wear socks, it feels suffocating. to each their own… i guess…” he concludes with hesitation.
before they can find something else to debate about, the staff announces the next segment. it’s the last one before they write the “heartfelt” letter to each other, a moment that akio dreads above all. not necessarily because he has to write it to nina, at least not entirely. but writing in korean is always a challenge, even if he’s improved tremendously this past year and a half. conveying honest feelings in a language he’s not totally fluent in isn’t easy. but for now, they need to take polaroid pictures of each other as well as one together. have they ever even taken a picture together? they are in pictures together, but have they ever genuinely posed? the two of them, alone? he can’t remember. “alright, let’s take yours first. how about over there? that wall’s pretty with the flowers. unless it doesn’t fit your cool image,” akio teases.
