The child had been mid-yawn, waking from an afternoon nap when he’d heard the other’s voice, and struggling to stretch his back against the marble arms he’d chosen to curl up in, and timid though he was, he was familiar enough with the unexpected voice that it hadn’t caused any more than a brief startle before a tired, dazed smile worked onto the boy’s expression.

“I like it here though..” He’d replied quietly, while despite the chills and ache the stiff marble arms had caused in his small frame, he’d nuzzled himself into the chest of the garden statue, bringing his knees up to bundle himself further into it, “It’s sort of cold but it feels nice to be held.. I can sleep better, see..”
