The stars hung high tonight. Their glow brightened this particular night.

Sand shifted beneath your feet with the minuscule rocks pressing against them gently. And the ocean collapsed and washed up on the shore in a certain rhythm. Its harsh smell can be blocked out by the pure beauty of the moon’s shape reflecting off its surface.

It was tragic. If there was any way you could set it all on fire, you would. Maybe you would find comfort in the flame and get lost in it. But removing the time capsule of the memories connected would fucking destroy you. Because that would ultimately mean giving up moments of joy and raw love you’d felt then.

On a none systematic point, the time so fondly thought upon was wild and random. It was the peak of your high school life and where you had ventured further from your friend group. Seeking out people to make friends with or finally making your move on Lexi Howard. The girl who had been your MJ since grade school.

She told you everything that she loved and one of them was the ocean. How it looked in the night and how it felt more natural being here than in her skin at times. And you strove to make her feel worth it and more.

You gave up the vices you sought comfort in. You were content. But she flipped the world upside down and made your heart swollen. Just receiving a mere glance from her would make you stumble over your words like an idiot. Or hearing her laugh would make you choke on your breath.

There wasn’t much you wouldn’t do for Lexi. To only know that these feats you had managed for this girl would end up with her in the passenger seat with a drug dealer.

And maybe you still would’ve done these things. Maybe you wouldn’t have swam into the ocean and grabbed shells to gift her. Or the amount of money you had spent taking her on road trips. All of these had stacked up to the point where you could’ve been in financial ruin–but you loved her still.

Even now, standing at this beach with the continuous waves hitting the tips of your shoes, you managed to think so fondly of those memories despite how they turned out for you.

Looking to your right, you saw the group of classmates you spent years with. A class reunion. Maddy was still enjoying life and taking it by the balls. Spending time with celebrities in L.A. Cassie, well, she was nowhere to be found. Rue was living happily with Jules–still healthy after getting sober all those years ago. And Lexi was going big with her plays in New York. She was a full-scale writer and set designer.

But you? You went to school and pursued cooking. Got out of school and quickly realize that there was little to nothing you had entitled to. So, you moved. There had been no destined location in mind. You were managing to get by at some of the restaurants you worked at and as shitty as it sounded, you were happy. It was just a matter of time before you caught a break and could feel that pay off after everything you’ve been through.

It was beautiful, to say the least. Seeing all your friends here, hearing everything they’ve been up to. It made you wonder why you had even thought that coming here would be a terrible idea.

The shifting of sand under footsteps drew your attention. Turning to find Lexi with a sheepish smile, hands clasped around a red solo cup. “How’s life treating you, Y/n?”

Maybe it had been the timing and the greeting because of your prior thoughts, but you smiled. Letting a soft chuckle slip from your lips as you shrugged, shoving your hands into your denim pockets.

“Jumping from location to location has its perks. Get to see places I never thought existed,” you explained, exhaling heavily. “But it can’t be as good as being a big-time playwriter, right?”

Lexi shrugged bashfully, smiling up at you. “I wouldn’t say big-time, Y/n. But it’s been my dream and I’m getting to live through it. So, it’s been good.”

It was hard maintaining any conversation with her without it dissolving into remnants of your favourite memories. Sparking those forgotten emotions might be the worse thing you could do tonight. Because if you were being honest with yourself, you likely wouldn’t see her again after tonight. Just by fate or the decision to try and forget her for your sake.

“How’s Fez?” You inquired suddenly, clearing your throat and looking down at your feet.

“He’s Fez,” she laughed, “Still working tirelessly and still using his head to make ends meet on his end.”

“I heard you guys are having a kid.” It hurt seeing it on Facebook. Seeing how ecstatic she’d been with the news and how everyone was happy for her. And as much as you didn’t want to be selfish or weird, you’d imagined the two of you to have kids. Start a family in New York and strive for both of your guys’ dreams. But as much as your soul hurt, you were happy for her. “You thought of any names for it?”

Lexi laughed. “It?” She repeated giggling. “We haven’t thought of a name for her yet. But, I haven’t been able to sleep because names keep bouncing around in my head.”

You smiled, humming, deep in thought. That was something you’d be on the receiving end of hearing - especially from her. Maybe it was just you grasping the final pieces of reality, but it still shook you to your core hearing and acknowledging she was having a kid with Fez.

Sighing, Lexi looked out at the ocean and smiled. “Been a while since we’ve been here together, huh?”

“Yeah, 10 years or so, right?”

Lexi nodded, exhaling softly. “You know, I never told you how much of an influence you’ve had in my life,” she breathed. “Like, I don’t think I would’ve gone for my dreams without you.”

You blew a raspberry, shaking your head. “Nah, I didn’t do much.” You glanced down at her, sparing a pitiful smile. Truthfully, you don’t think you were in any way connected to her motivation or drive to pursue her dreams. If anything, you resembled a mosquito in the back of her mind that wouldn’t leave her alone.

But it did feel nice to live with that little bit of pride and happiness. Even if it was for such a short period of time.

“I don’t think you even realize the power you had.” Lexi looked up at you in question. Seeing that faint smile on your lips as you scoffed, shaking your head. “You had this thing about you. Like, you could give confidence to anyone who needed it. You appear in a room–it would clear everyone out and give you the center stage, you know what I mean?”

Lexi nibbled on her bottom lip, watching you turn to her with a sigh. “And despite how I feel and how much I love you, I am so fucking proud of you, Lexi. Really. You deserve all of what you have. The kid, Fez, the job. You deserve every-fucking-bit of it.” Hesitantly, you placed a hand on her head and ruffled her hair, smiling when she grumbled. “Remember your worth, Lex. You are amazing. Don’t ever forget that.”

Leaning down, you kissed her head before brushing past her. So quick yet so gentle, it felt like a gust of wind danced past her. And it took a few moments for her to realize your words before she spun around to see your fleeting figure. It becomes disfigured in the darkness of the night with only the moonlight giving way of your departure.

She couldn’t contain the tears that stung the brim of her eyes. A natural heat of emotions blossomed and enveloped her entire face as she squinted, wanting to take in the last bit of you and take in every detail. “Y/n! What do you mean?”

You stopped for a moment, stuffing your hands in your pockets and turning toward her, smiling softly. “It’s something I never got to tell you before you left Highland. Maybe things would’ve been different if I did.” A tear slid down your cheek as you chuckled sadly. “But you need to know that talking to you and getting to know you has been the greatest thing in my life.”

Nodding to yourself, almost looking like you were finalizing something, you said, “I hope I see you again, Lex.”

you don’t miss me, babe. don’t know why you’re trying to convince me, babe.

for as long as Ashtray could remember you were a constant in his life. he vaguely remembered when you’d come by with a fresh set of braids, a tense neck, gel on your forehead, and beads loudly clacking when you were 12.

Kitty would always giggle at you and Fez. one of her last memories with you all before she got sick was her catching you and Fez holding hands during a movie. he had just picked you two up from school, dropped you off at her home, then ran down the street and around the corner to get Ash from the local babysitter.

“oh?” she asked from behind the couch, starling you two as Ash sat on her hip.

“you two are so precious.” She cooed as the two of you watched her with wide eyes, hands now resting beside eachother.

“isn’t that right Ash?” she asked the boy who was more interested in the TV than the conversation around him.

he nodded yes and continued watching whatever SpongeBob movie it was.

those were the easier times. way before he started separating the red pills from the light blue ones. way before he had to crack Mouse in his shit. way before Laurie had her goons drag you, Rue, and the new found Faye out of the car and into stripping.

way before he saw Fez cry over a girl for the first time.

“i can’t keep fucking-“ Fez was caught by his own hiccups. Ashtray sat on the couch beside his brother with his eyes wide and filled with concern. “i can’t keep getting her caught up man.” Fez cried as Ash quickly went to hug his brother.

his older brother was breaking down and crumbling right before his own eyes.

Ash had just seen the biggest fight you two had. when the two of you argued, you barely yelled and he barely yelled, let alone even argue in front of him.

when Ash left the surveillance cameras due to the crying he heard he was shocked and hurt.

you were crying. nose stuffy and hands moving wilding repeatedly asking “Why?” in a broken voice.

he hated seeing you upset, but instead of comforting you he froze. he didn’t know what was going on.

Fez was looking at everything but at you grabbing his shirt and drenching it in tears.

“you fucking answer me!” you cried out. “did i do something? what did i do bro? what is it?! i promise i’ll do better just tell me.” you cried, the deep wails not even sound like you as they rumbled out of your body.

he had fucking broke you.

Fez looked at you then. his eyes were red from unshod tears and he was frantically shaking his head. you needed to know it had nothing to do with you, you were never a problem in his life.

you never would be.

“don’t say that shit.” he started to tell you, grabbing your arms and slowly walking forward, basically forcing you to walk backwards.

“don’t you even fucking say that shit. you didn’t do shit. i did it.” he said to you. you were almost to the door and he quickly unlocked it while you were listening to him in confusion.

“you did what? did Custer do something now?” you asked in a scared voice. it was enough dealing with Mouse and seeing Ash take him. you didn’t know if you could deal with more.

Fez couldn’t handle the fear in your eyes at his life.

“no baby it’s just…baby i’m no good for you.” Fez weakly said before quickly opening the door, pushing you back, and immediately slamming it back to lock it.

he heard you let out a frustrated groan before banging on his door.

“don’t be a fucking pussy Fez! you can’t do this. that doesn’t even make sense.” you hollered from behind the door.

Ash watched his brother bring his arm up and violently sob into his hoodie sleeve. he sagged to the floor. crying into himself as you banged on the door behind him.

“you can’t fucking do this to me!” you cried. your voice got more panicky and your crying became more gut wrenching for the two boys.

“you’re fucking perfect Fez! perfect! please don’t do this to me. i really can’t do this right now just please open the door you’re literally everything just..just fucking please.” your voice cracked at the end.

when you got no answer you let out a whine before crying into the night sky.

Ash slowly walked up to Fez and sat in front of his defeated figure slumped in front of the door.

“imma need you…” Ash started. “imma need you to get the fuck up and explain this shit, now.” Ash gritted out between his teeth, his own angry tears welling up in the back of his eyes as your cries pierced his ears.

eventually your crying didn’t stop, it just got further from the home and the rumble of your car started and peeled out from the front of the house.

“Laurie man.” Fez cried on the couch. “i can’t keep putting y/n through my shit. she’s too good for me and this.” he said harshly wiping at his face.

“i don’t want her hurt.” his voice cracked.

“so instead of expressing your concern and probably telling her she can’t come to drop offs and pick ups anymore after the other day, you instead just hurt her with no explanation?” Ash asked.

Fez’s face fell again before he solemnly nodded.

he did decide to do that.

“please just call me back. i want to fix this.” your voice weakly said in a voicemail you sent to Fez’s phone over a week ago. he was getting dressed for a party and waiting on Ash as he listened to it.

he played it pretty much everyday and each time he almost called you back.

“ayo Ash!” Fez called out again.

Ash stumbled into the room, his shirt over this eyes as he pulled it down to cover his tank top.

“alright alright. let’s fucking go bro.” his brother said finally getting his arms through the holes and grabbing the door handle.

Fez was first hit with the bass of the music and the yelling of his name from a group of people he knew all too well when he opened the front door.

he had gave Elliot a blunt before sitting on the couch and starting his work. his eyes scanned through the people that came to buy from. he was looking and hoping for you.

the second he left the house he knew if he saw you the charade was over. he was telling you what was up and that he didn’t want to break up. he was just scared of you getting hurt.

once the party was really starting up he had less and less people frequenting him, they we’re all currently getting high if they weren’t high already.

it wasn’t until he was relaxing and Lexi showed up that he saw you.

she looked like she was doing fine. her hair was beautiful and her body was banging in the dress. she was beautiful.

he had missed her.

he needed her.

your laughter drifted into his ears as you said something to Ethan and he found himself lost in your voice. he was listening to Lexi, but it was hard to keep up with her talk as you walked through the kitchen behind him.

“…so that happened, but i mean it’s still cool through right?” Lexi laughed. Fez had no idea what the fuck she was going on about, but he laughed and nodded to be nice.

Lexi saw his eyes drift to you and her smile dropped.

she could’ve swore he told her earlier they were over.

she saw his eyes follow you and McKay in the kitchen and she just knew he was in a trance.

placing her hand on his leg she caught his full attention then. laughing at his startled face he started laughing too.

“you good?” she asked as the laughing eventually seized.

“i’m uh…” Fez seemed to zone out, turning his eyes away from her eyes, his eyes now over her head and following something. Lexi was concerned then, his face was getting red and she was afraid something was wrong.

“Fez?” she called to him. when she got no response she got scared. had he already mentally went back to his ex?

right when she felt like they were developing a sense of liking to one another?

“F-Fez?” she called again in worry as he faced forward with his hands clenching.

“i’m pissed the fuck off, Lex.” the boy mumbled before getting up and walking away.

he had saw you grinding the body you had used to grind on him multiple times all over McKay.

right in fucking front of him. that was supposed to be him right now. so when he caught your eye? it was up from there.

Lexi followed his path and watched as he said something to a stunned McKay. pressing his body up against yours before dragging you to the back of the home.

she lost her sight of the two of you and deflated.

he seemed so close and now he was so far away.

“the fuck was that baby girl?” Fez asked you pulling at the bottom of your dress. your legs looked too good and he had to stop himself for gripping your thighs.

you just stared at him. no words leaving your glossed lips as you examined his reddened face.

how could you just whine on another dude in front of him like that? he knew you two had broken up, but had he really been that easy to get over?

Fez was jealous and convinced you had moved on.

I had a pretty decent childhood, until I was ten. I discovered my first condom at that age, and had my parents lecture me for one hour about sex, and how boys are bad and pregnancy, you know the normal shit.

After that puberty hit. And that motherfucker hit harder than any fucking thing anyone has been hit with.

Boys started looking at me differently because my boobs were bigger and my waist was getting a little curvier, so I started wearing these baggy ass clothes that could barely fit me so you could barely make out my figure. But of course there was assholes who were just so fucking obsessed with seeing a part of the human female anatomy.

Assholes like Nate fucking Jacob.

The asshole who pulled down my pants infront of the whole classroom while I bended down to pick up my rubber that had fallen off my desk, a low whistled sounding from him as he stared at my ass. The whole class started laughed, like it was funny that he had just violated me like that, anyways

He ended up in the nurses office with a broken nose and a black eye that day, and I ended up with suspension. And that's how I made my first ever friend.

“it don’t seem like you are though.” he said, genuine concern laced in his tone. wow, how you wish nate had the capability to as well.

“you need a ride home? i can take you?” he offered, a small smile decorating his face.

you thought about it for a moment, a moment too long. your ride home tonight was supposed to be nate, but seeing the way tonight played out it was probably best to not rely on him to take you home.

“yeah,”

before you both got into the car, you chugged a bottle of water, hoping it would get you some what sober. just so you don’t appear to look like an alcoholic when you get to your house. and just to be safe you told maddy you were leaving. “maddy, i’m gonna go home.” you told her over the loud music.

“what?” she questioned, her hands moving with her body.

“i’m gonna go home!”

her brows furrowed. “who’s taking you?!” her hands flew to her hips.

“fez!” you replied.

“does nate know?” she asked.

“no, but can you tell him?”

“yeah!”

soon maddy watched you leave the party with fez, but all she could think about was her best friends cunt of a boyfriend and not in that way.

she didn’t know how or when, but suddenly she was in front of nate jacobs yelling at him as if there was no tomorrow. “you dumb fucking bitch! you start arguing with her just for her to leave and you’re gonna be a man whore and start talking to other bitches? you don’t even know where she is right now, don’t you?”

“what the fuck, maddy?”

“don’t “what the fuck” me! you know exactly what you were doing when you were talking to cassie. if you’re trying to fuck around with y/n only, just fucking fuck off!” she shouted, giving a push to the taller boy.

“dont fucking tou — what are you trying to say?” but he knew exactly what she said. he was nate jacobs and he had a reputation of playing girls leaving them to walk down heartbroken avenue.

“you know exactly what i mean.” she growled and stomped away. no way in hell would she let her best friend get played by a fucking douche bag.

“where is she?” he exclaimed before maddy got out of hearing distance. she stopped in her tracks for a moment. “fez took her home.” and following she continued to walk, ignoring his complaints.

“fez. fucking fezco?! why the fuck — why didn’t she just...” then her remembered the argument the two of you just had, him talking to cassie, maddie yelling at him. of course you didn’t want him to take you home. but he’d make it up to you.

“fuck it.”

he raced out of the party and i to his truck, quickly he revved the engine and pressed his foot to the gas and sped to your house.

once he arrived he saw that your light was still on in your room. “thank god.” he murmured and paced to your door step.

then he proceeded to knock on your door. first three knocks, no reply. he knocked again. no reply.

“just open the damn door!” he demanded, he knew you were on the other side. your parents weren’t home so he didn’t have to worry about confused parents wondering why he was banging on their door at 1 am.

“please...y/n, please open the door.” he begged and with a sigh he banged his head into the door but it never hit the hard wood.

you opened the door.

so, instead he fell into your arms and you stumbled back, landing on your back with the tall boy on top of you.

“well, this is one way to let me in.” he smiled and you giggled at him.

but then you remembered the earlier events that had occurred.

doing so, you cleared your throat and gently pushed him off of you.

closing the front door you faced him. “nate. what are you doing here?”

“listen...i — i’m...i’m sorry. i’m sorry for arguing with you over that damn dress. you looked beautiful baby, but i didn’t want anyone to look at what’s mine.” his eyes scanned you, and he noticed your new attire. his t-shirt and a pair of cheeky undies.

a smile grew on his face. his hands connected to your hips and roamed your body for a moment. “let me make it up to you, mhm?”

the school nerd. nobody wanted to be her friend, the only friend she had was lexi howard. the other school nerd.

no one picked on her because she was pretty and was more outgoing, she never let people get to her either.

it was way different for y/n, of course none of them called her ugly because she wasn't and if they did call her that they were lying.

some of the girls were jealous of her body type and her beautiful features. she was picked on a lot and she ignored them but she couldn't say it didn't hurt because that would be lying.

she was ready to dig up a hole and stay there forever. it was one thing stopping her from doing that though.

maddy perez, the queen bee. she literally ruled the place. almost everyone was scared of her, even some teachers.

what nobody knew was that maddy and y/n were dating for almost eight months now. maddy didn't want to tell anyone because it would ruin her reputation.

so to cover it up maddy would follow everyone else and pick and mess with y/n. maddy hated doing it but it was for the best.

right?

today as y/n walked down the hall she was pushed to the floor and her books went everywhere. the whole hall boomed with laughs and 'ou's'.

maddy watched the whole thing happen, her blood was boiling at this point. she hated that she couldn't do anything about it.

lexi rushed over to y/n and helped her pick her things up and helped her off the floor. lexi gave maddy a look basically telling her 'this is what you should be doing' maddy pursed her lips at the girl before walking up to the scene.

y/n looked up at maddy, tears threatening to spill out of her eyes. maddy mumbled sorry before starting the show.

"well well well, look at what we have here" maddy smirked as touched y/n's face. y/n shivered, maddy always intimidated her and maddy used that against her sometimes.

crowd of students laughed as maddy backed her up into the lockers. she leaned down to y/n's ear, "nice tights you decided to put on today, did you wear them for me" maddy rasped in her ear.

"i-"

"shh shh i know you did" maddy said as she moved from y/n's ear and smacked her books back on the floor and walked away causing the crowd to go wild.

the bell rung and the hallway cleared mighty fast. multiple people walked her way and kicked her books to the other side of the hall.

some of the notebook paper ripped out, y/n felt tears roll down her face. she hated her life, she hated that everyone hated her.

maddy walked in her class with her head down, she hated hurting her baby. she felt a tear roll down her eye and she quickly wiped it.

it was the end of the day, people got loaded onto the bus, some walked, some drove. y/n walked every day, she liked getting fresh air before she walked into hell.

she spotted maddy by a tree as she typed away on her phone, seconds later y/n's phone chimed. meet me by the bleachers please.

y/n scoffed as she walked her way to the back of the school. she walked as slowly as possible on purpose by time she reached the bleachers ariana held an annoyed expression.

"there you are"

"what do you want" y/n stated. "i- i'm sorry baby" maddy said as she grabbed y/n's hand. "i hate doing this" maddy softened.

"then why do you do it?" y/n asked looking at the floor. "i told you why, because of my re-" y/n cut maddy off with a scoff.

"you're fucking reputation i know" y/n said kicking the grass that needed to be cut. "i sometimes wonder do you actually love me" y/n said as she continued to look at the ground.

maddy grabbed y/n's chin and lifted it up to look at her. she kissed the girl's lips "of course i love you baby, what are you talking about" ariana softens.

"you sure love that fucked up reputation more than me don't you? cause if you didn't you would've been defending me every time those jerks came at me" y/n argued.

"i should've picked lexi instead" y/n mumbled, of course she was lying, she loved maddy she was the best girlfriend out of school.

"excuse me?" maddy said tightening her jaw. "you heard what i said, you either choose me or your bitch ass reputation. goodbye madeleine" y/n said turning on her heel and walking back to the front of the school.

the next day was same old same old. y/n didn't see maddy all day, y/n told lexi the conversation she and maddy had yesterday. they couldn't help but laugh at the part of y/n mentioning lexi’s name.

"let's see if she picks the right choice" lexi said as she pointed her head in maddy’s direction as she came down the hall.

it was this one punk boy who would always mess with you only when maddy is around to get her attention literally everyone noticed that.

too bad she was gay.

"looking even uglier today, keep up the nice work" he said, it was the corniest thing ever but everyone laughed just because it was at me.

"wanna say that again for me?" maddy’s voice boomed through the hallway. she stood tall behind the boy with anger written over her face.

one thing maddy hated is when they called her ugly because that was one thing she wasn't. "did you call her ugly?" maddy asked tilting her head at the boy as she turned around to face her.

"um-"

"tell her you're sorry" she said crossing her arms. they boy scoffed but quickly turned around at y/n and apologized by the face maddy made.

"say it like you mean it" she grits.

"i'm sorry y/n" he apologized again, "are you gonna bother her again?" maddy asked. "no i won't" he shook his head. "and what happens if you mess with her again?" maddy asks.

"i-"

"you'll regret being born if you fuck with her again, now get lost" she watched him as he quickly walked down the hall.

the students laughed at the boy as she hurried down the hall. maddy turned to them, "and for you guys, you better not fuck with her either." maddy warned making some of the students gulp.

"and for you" maddy smiled turning her way back to y/n, maddy pulled y/n's bottom lip from in between her teeth and kissed her lips passionately.

the crowd gasped.

maddy broke away and mumbled against her girlfriend's lip. "i'm sorry baby, i should've done this sooner" y/n smiled, "it's okay baby" y/n smiled up at maddy.

"yes finally" lexi cheered clapping her hands.

"come on baby, let's go to class" maddy said as she held her hand out which y/n gladly took. as they walked down the hall all eyes were on them.

"i love you so much" y/n said. "and i love you so much more princess" maddy said kissing her lips once again.

y/n didn't have to worry about anybody messing with her ever again.

Summary: Reader's having a difficult time with her mental health so her best friend Fez takes matters into his own hands.

A/n: Hi guys! I got a request to write a platonic Fez fic with a reader who's been struggling with her mental health. Hope you guys enjoy❤️

Fezco had been my best friend for the longest time.

As long as I could remember back, he was there. I remembered a time when he still lived with his dad, when he'd come to hang out at my house with black eyes and bruises littering his cheeks. I remember when he moved in with his grandma, when Ashtray came into the picture, when his grandma took a turn for the worst.

I was there for everything. He told me anything and everything that happened to him down to the littlest moments in his days. He told me about Lexi Howard, their ongoing bashful and flirty relationship. He was head over heels for the girl and, though his grandma told the both of us to never fall in love and to not trust those feelings, he did anyways. And I was proud that he ignored her warnings and fell into the deep end.

But Fezco has been my only friend for the longest time.

People would come and go, here and there. Old friendships would reignite, fizzling out soon after. It was difficult to maintain a relationship, a friendship, without feeling like I was too much for them, a burden. A noose.

Fez always told me that I could never bother him, that he enjoyed spending time with me and nothing I could ever do could drive him away. He was in my life for the long run so no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that I didn't deserve him, he would still be there.

That didn't mean that I didn't feel the overwhelming urge to push him away when things got rough. He had enough going on, between his personal life, taking care of his grandma and Ash, his other friends. Not to mention is drug business. When things would get rough, the covers being pulled up to my chin as I contemplated not getting out of bed for days, I would ignore his messages, his incessant calls.

He worried about me more than anyone and maybe I was selfish for pushing him away. I knew that he just wanted to help, to care for me. But I couldn't stop the thought in my mind that he didn't deserve this. He didn't deserve to pry his way into my house, urging me to get out of bed, to eat something, drink something. He shouldn't have to do this for me, he had better things to fill his time.

But Fezco was stubborn and he went above and beyond for the people he loves.

This had to have been the sixth time he's called me this morning, our plans of going to breakfast being tossed out the window as soon as I woke up. I could tell that today wasn't going to be an easy day, that it would just be best to stay in bed and avoid burdening anyone with my presence today.

Tapping the screen of my phone, I see the multiple messages from my best friend along with the missed calls that he's left me.

We always went out to breakfasts on Saturdays. This would've been the first one I've missed.

From Fezzz: You ready?

Hello?

You up, kid?

That's it, I'm callin u.

Seriously, u freakin me out.

I stare at the message through teary eyes, my head shaking as I toss my phone onto my lap. I had voicemails from him too, messages that I couldn't bare to listen to right now without diving into a pool of self hatred for leaving him hanging.

The phone buzzes again on my lap, but this time it's not Fez, it's Ash. My eyebrows pull together nervously, my lip tucked in between my teeth as my finger hovers over the answer button. Pressing it hesitantly, I raise the phone to my ear with a sigh.

"Yo, can you, like, fuckin' answer your phone or some shit. Fez is over here freaking the fuck out." Ash huffs, my eyes closing as I feel my bottom lip wobble. The tears tumble down my cheeks as I take a shaky breath in, sniffling loudly. "Ayo, you okay?" Ash asks, his voice changing to something more gentle, Fez's voice heard in the background.

"Yeah, honey, I'm okay. I just 'm not feeling so good today." I whisper, my voice hoarse as I lie, my body turning over to curl up into a ball. "Tell Fez to stop worrying, I'm sorry for not answering him." I mutter, my breathing slow as I stare at the medication on my nightstand. I know that I have to take them but the voice in my head tells me to just stop, they weren't even doing their job in the first place anyways.

"Well, I know you won't like this but he's already out the door. Have your door unlocked." He doesn't say anything more, just ends the call as I let out a forced breath.

He always did this when I wasn't 'feeling good'. He knew what that meant, he knew that I was against caring for myself right now so that would mean that he would have to come over and do it for me.

The last thing I wanted was someone going out of their way for me right now.

Hearing his car pull up outside, I take a slow deep breath, knowing whoever's home right now will let him in. My room is dim, the only light coming from the cracked window above my head and it's quiet, just how I like and need it to be.

I listen closely as he speaks downstairs, always getting caught up with my family. They always loved Fez, how much he cared for me and protected me. They knew that out of all the friends I've had in my whole life that he was the most special. Because he was just that, he was special.

My stomach swirls anxiously as I hear footsteps outside my door, fingers knocking gently at the wood. I grunt in acknowledgment, the door pushing open to reveal Fez behind it. He smiles softly at me, his eyes flickering to the ground as he shuts the door, stepping further into my room.

"Hey, kid." He whispers, his feet carrying him over to my side of the bed as he kneels down. He places a water bottle in front of me, his assumption that I haven't drank anything today being correct. His head tilts at the sight of me, his brows furrowing in frustration. "Why didn't you tell me it was gettin' bad again?" He asks, reaching out to gently push some hair from my face. I huff with a shrug, my eyes fluttering away from his as I cling to my blankets. He falls silent for a moment, his head turning to look at the bottle of refilled pills. He frowns, knowing that, by the amount in there, that I hadn't taken them in a few days. "You gotta stay on top'a these, ma." He whispers, his fingers wrapping around the bottle. He opens the cap with a click, his fingers prying one out as I groan. He forces the water bottle into my hands, my eyes rolling. "Don't make me shove it down your fucking throat." He chuckles quietly, my lips parting as he drops the pill in my mouth, watching me as I take a few swigs of the water. "See, not so hard?" He taunts and I scoff, a small smile on my lips as he sighs. "Alright, scoot over." He smiles, my body rolling as he lays down next to me with a sigh, his arms resting behind his head as I gaze at him.

We sit in silence for a few moments, knowing that this was all I wanted. I just wanted to have someone that got it like Fez did. It was this constant internal battle of whether to let him help me or push him away once more. But I decide that I just wanted him here, just laying next to me in a comfortable silence. So maybe, just this one time, I'd let him care.

"You wanna hear 'bout my date with Lex?" He asks quietly, his head tilting to look at me as my eyes widen. "Yeah, yeah." He chuckles bashfully, the smile on his lips radiating happiness. It made me happy to see him like this, my heart swelling as I listen to him talk.

I could listen to him go on for hours about Lexi. He loved that girl so much that it was almost ridiculous. This man was the perfect gentleman, he was caring, kind, soft, protective. And Lexi and I adored each other, the two of us ganging up on Fez whenever we could. I guess I could consider her a friend too.

The way that he talked about her, it made me hopeful that I would meet someone who looks at me, who talks about me, in the way that Fezco talks about Lex. With everything going on in my mind it seemed a bit impractical to think that far ahead but, it was something, right?

"Ash was worried when I told him you were MIA." Fez whispers, my heart breaking at the thought of worrying Ash. I take a deep breath, my eyes fluttering shut as he continues. "You can't disappear like that, Y/n. I know you can't promise shit because you not okay right now but..." He trails off, his voice dripping with pain. "I would not survive losing you, you know that?" Tears slip from my eyes as I sniffle, my eyes opening to meet his. I just send him a quiet nod, an unknown weight crushing my chest. His blue eyes shimmer with unshed tears, the weight of his worry for me crushing him.

"I just don't have any energy and I'm tired of making everyone worry." I whisper, his head nodding softly.

"And I get that. But you gotta take your fucking meds. You gotta show me that I don't gotta put a leash on you and take you everywhere I go. You gotta show me I can trust you to be alone right now." I close my eyes with a frustrated groan, my hands reaching up to rub over my face.

"You can't, Fez. I can't be trusted to take my meds and you can't trust me to be alone right now." I answer honestly, some of the weight leaving my shoulders as he scoots closer to me, taking me in his arms. I lay with my head on his chest, his hand resting gently on the back of my head. "I don't want to be this leech that attaches to people, begging them, needing them to care for me cuz I can't do it myself." I cry, fisting the material of his t-shirt under my hands.

"Okay, but fuck that. I'm here, I'm telling you I'm here and I'll do anything to help you get back to feelin' better." He whispers and I know that his words are true. But I can't help but continue to beat myself up over it. "Let me help." He adds, his hand rubbing my back gently as I sniffle. "You gotta let the people who love you help." I nod, my eyes shutting tiredly as I yawn. "So from now on, you're settin' an alarm on your phone, you're gonna take your meds. You're gonna answer my texts and calls and you're gonna come hang out with Ash and I at the store." He orders, no strength left in me to argue. "I'll even pay you. You can stock shit or whatever." He laughs, a teary giggle leaving my lips as I send him another nod. "Alright." He whispers, the weight rising off of me fully as I close my eyes, listening to his heartbeat beneath me.

a/n: so I recently watched nocturne and this happened :') (minus the horror stuff lol) I kinda hate it but it's better than nothing...right?

"You're going to embarrass yourself. Lexi was born for this, you'll never be half as talented as she is."

Those were the nagging thoughts that lingered in the back of Cassie's mind as she stared at the keyboard with little to no motivation to carry on playing.

Piano wasn't the only thing Lexi was excelling at. She was a bright student, got amazing grades in every class, she had a stable group of friends and was admired by everyone around her. The brunette was everything Cassie wished to be.

And this piano, which had once brought her so much joy, was now a source of frustration and anguish.

Sucking in a breath, Cassie tried to push those thoughts aside and concentrate again. She had to be ready for this talent show. She had to prove everyone that she was in fact equally as talented and worthy as her sister.

And so her fingers rose again to hover over the black and white keys, her foot readying itself at the pedal simultaneously.

Her fingers began to move gracefully over the keyboard while she followed the music sheet that was pinned in front of her. Cassie started slow, her fingers lazily hitting each key, letting them get accustomed to the movement. She cringed as she hit a wrong note but continued on regardless, her brows furrowing in concentration.

But the pace quickly became too fast, hard to keep up with. Cassie didn't have the hang of it yet. Her fingers fumbled, which caused her to play a combination of the wrong keys.

She stopped to rub her sweaty hands on her jeans. She was growing more and more frustrated by the second, her heartbeat speeding up, throat tightening.

After taking a moment to gather her emotions, Cassie placed her hands on the keyboard again. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes before starting over from the beginning, the opening notes of Mozart's Sonata Number Sixteen filling the room once more.

She was doing just fine, until came another wrong note. And that was all it took for her to break, her eyes suddenly filling with tears and blurring her vision.

"Fuck!" she yelled, slamming her hands down on the piano keys and weeping.

You'll never be ready. They'll laugh at you.

She wanted to give up. Close the lid and phone the school to let them know she wouldn't be able to perform. She'd call in sick, or say there's a family emergency. But she didn't want to do this anymore. The phone was so close, she just had to reach out and grab it and then all her problems would be solved. She stared at it.

Just then, her attention was caught by the sound of the door opening, your voice breaking the silence.

"Hi Cass." you said, peeking cautiously into the room. Cassie turned around to face you, her eyes puffy. You gave her a sympathetic smile as she repeated the simple greeting, wiping her cheeks and forcing a smile.

"I heard a scream. What's wrong?" you cooed, stepping closer to your visibly upset girlfriend. You cupped her shoulders with your hands and began to rub your thumbs along the area between her shoulder blades. Cassie dropped her head a little, enjoying the massage.

"I'll never be ready for the talent show." she sniffled. "I keep messing up at the same bit. I can't do anything right."

"You're still learning, Cassie. There's nothing wrong with messing up." you leaned forward to peck her cheek.

"But Lexi has already mastered her part, I need to—"

"Stop comparing yourself to your sister. The only reason Lexi has already mastered her part is because she's had an extra week to practice. That doesn't mean anything, and it doesn't make you any less talented." you continued to massage her shoulders. "Come on. Play something for me." you seated yourself next to her and placed a comforting hand on her lower back, rubbing it with your thumb.

"I- I don't—"

"Please?" you pouted, giving her your best puppy eyes.

Cassie wiped her cheeks with her sleeves and eventually nodded, her shaky hands moving to the keys once more. She began to play the first notes, which you immediately recognized as Mozart.

"No." you interrupted, placing a hand over hers. "Not this. Play something different. Something that you love." Cassie thought for a moment before deciding on a song.

"Okay." she whispered to herself, nodding.

Once more she began to play, her shoulders and back shifting as her fingers pressed each key, missing no note this time. She looked much more at ease already. She quickly began to relax and closed her eyes, letting her fingers do the work while you leaned your head on her shoulder, smiling fondly as you watched.

After a couple minutes the melody came to an end and Cassie slowly shut the lid of the piano, a sweet smile on her lips.

“You make playing this thing seem so easy,” you told her, hooking a finger under her chin and leaning in to kiss her. Cassie giggled, shying away from you.

"See?" you said. "All you needed was a break from Mozart." you whispered, kissing her lips once more. Then your expression turned serious. "You're more than ready for this talent show, Cassie. You're going to own the stage and impress everyone in that room like you always do."

When Lexi had confessed her feelings for you, it was a huge surprise. Obviously, you were ecstatic. On cloud nine basically but it was a surprise nonetheless.

Especially when Rue had told you how Lexi reacted when they had kissed for the first time.

You weren’t sure how Cassie would react seeing as you were her age and one of her friends but she was more than glad that Lexi had finally confessed.

Unbeknownst to you, she had been on the receiving end of many rants about how attractive you were and how her heart beat faster every time you were near.

Anyways…

Lexi was a ridiculously sweet girlfriend. She baked cookies and banana bread for you, she memorized your coffee order, constantly doted on you, planned insanely cute dates, etc etc.

Not that you were pushing for anything to move quickly but whether she realized how heated and stir crazy she made you was still up for debate but if she knew then she was amazing at playing coy.

“So? What do you think?” Lexi asked sheepishly as she held her hands behind her back and anxiously swayed a bit.

You were stood at the open front door as she was showing off her outfit for the party you were going to.

It was different than what she normally wore. You couldn’t help but feel adoration and love course through you as you let your eyes trail her body.

Chunky platform boots that seemed to make her legs look longer.

A tight black mini skirt with a small slit on her right thigh that hugged her hips perfectly.

A maroon off-the shoulder crop top with puffy sleeves that was a shimmery silk and made her collar bones a little more prominent.

As you stuttered over what to say, you could see Cassie and Maddy, Kat, BB, and Mrs. Howard watching with amusement just a ways away.

But seeing as you hadn’t answered right away, Lexi grew a little self conscious and nervous.

“(Y/n)?” Hearing her dejected tone of voice quickly snapped you out of your trance.

“Sorry. I was just….you look-“ Your heart seemed to beat a million times faster as each second passed.

Taking a deep breath, you calmed your nerves and gathered your thoughts, making sure to keep it appropriate since her mother was like right there.

“Lex, you look gorgeous.” You silently held your hand out and she quickly slipped her hand into yours. “Like I’m speechless.” She blushed, cheeks turning into adorable little tomatoes.

“Come on…” You muttered as you brought your joint hands to your lips and pressing a kiss to the back of her hand. “Give us a little twirl.”

Holding her hand above your heads, you gently twirled her in a circle. Maddy and Cassie squealed in excitement, Kat and BB yelling something along the lines of ‘get it girl!’ and Suze whistled.

“Okay, okay!” Lexi laughed shushed them before turning to face you once more. “Let’s go.” She gently squeezed your hand.

You frowned before turning to the other three girls “You guys aren’t coming with us?”

“We’ll go together to give you guys some alone time.” Cassie teased, Maddy made a V with her fingers and stuck her tongue out in between it.

You shook your head in disbelief. “I- okay. See you guys later.”

“No funny business Miss (Y/N)!” Shouted sternly but her smiling eyes gave her away.

“There never is!” You playfully saluted her with your unoccupied hand before pulling Lexi away to your car.

You opened the passenger door and in a posh accent said, “Milady.” which she giggled at. That giggle sent your heart into a frenzy.

You had to take a breath before entering the car.

As you drove, windows down, and RedBone by Childish Gambino played through the speakers, the sudden feeling of a hand on your thigh made you glance over at Lexi.

“What’s up babe?” The way that the pet name rolled off your tongue made her shiver.

“Nothing…” She muttered. Blushing and looking away.

Smiling fondly, you let her be as you continued to drive. Being in a relationship with her was very interesting. She had still been getting used to the intimacy, both emotional and physical and she appreciated that you were so patient but she knew of your past relationships.

Overhearing your retellings of one night stands or passed sexual experiences with your ex(es) while having sleepovers with the girls and it frustrated her.

Not because she was jealous or anything but because she wanted you to just have your way with her.

She would never admit it but recently, she had been fantasizing and daydreaming about you WAY more often. Mainly about your lips. How they would feel against her body, how they would feel between her thighs.

The thought alone had her thighs clenching together.

Your hands were also another part of you she found herself drooling over them. The thick rings that adorned your fingers. The way they looked flexing over the steering wheel-

“Are you okay?”

“Hmm?” Her eyes widened as she moved her gaze from your hands to your frowning face.

“You spaced out for a second, we’re here.” You spoke gently, nodding your head in the direction of the windshield.

She glanced over and you were right. There was an enormous amount of teens loitering outside the house. Plumes of smoke floating into the air, the sound of muffled music finally reading her ears.

“Oh…right.” She turned red once more. “Sorry.”

“No worries princess.”

Shivers.

As the both of you walked into the party, you were quite aware of the stares pointed towards Lexi. Normally, you wouldn’t have minded but these stares were hungry and wandering...lingering. Lingering too long at the edge of her skirt, at the swell of her breasts that were accentuated by her top.

Slipping your hand out of hers, you moved your arm around her waist and tugged her closer to you. She glanced at you and could see the way your jaw clenched and your eyes narrowed and she grinned.

You were jealous.

Once you guys had settled, Lexi had spotted Maddy, Cassie, and Kat.

“Hey, I’m gonna go look for Fez. I’ll be right back, okay?”

“Okay! Bring me another drink on your way back?”

“Of course princess.” You leaned down and she bit her lip as you placed an open mouth kiss at the place where her jaw connected to her neck.

Your relationship with drugs wasn’t as concerning as Rue’s and Lexi made it a point to have a conversation about it with you at the beginning of your relationship.

You smoked weed, occasionally partook in molly with Maddy and Cassie but that was about it. Never really doing anything harder than that. However there was one time you taken a hallucinogen with Rue and had a terrible trip. She was worried as fuck when she got a call from Elliot saying that he needed help getting you home.

She has spent a few hours helping you off of the high. Then she spent the night crying in your arms, explaining how worried she was.

Whatever…back to the main story.

“Hey Fez, Ash.” Ash nodded at you.

Fez sat up.

“Hey ma’, how’s it goin?”

“Not too bad Fez, business still booming?”

“Shiii…you know it is ma. You here with ya girl?”

Your girl…that made your heart swell.

“Yes I am.” He grinned at your blissed out smile just at the mention of her.

“Aye that’s what up man…I won’t keep you long then. What can we help you with?”

“You got any joints left?”

“I think I do…” He muttered as Ash looked into a black backpack and pulled it a little plastic box.

“We got three left.” Ash glanced up at you.

“Then I’ll take all three.”

“That’s twenty-five big ones (Y/n).”

Lexi was waiting for you by the patio entrance when some guy she didn’t recognize approached her.

“Hey baby, how’re you doing tonight?”

“Oh uhm I’m okay.” She responded uncomfortably. Self consciously wrapping her arms around her slightly exposed midriff.

“You know, I can’t believe that a pretty girl like you is here alone.” He licked his lips, backing her up against the wall.

“Oh I-I’m not…”She trailed off, beginning to feel her fingers fluttering against her sides with nerves.

“Sure looks like it. I don’t see your boyfriend around.” His hand then came up and he ran a knuckle down her cheek.

“Hey man, I don’t mean to alarm you but-“ Fez pointed over your shoulder as you slipped the joints into your jacket pocket. You turned to see where he was pointing, and it made your heart stop.

Lexi was backed up against a wall, some guy had his hand pressed firmly to the wall beside her head and the other was touching her cheek. What made you see red was the way Lexi’s eyes were glossed over with tears and her bottom lip was trembling.

Dropping the money in Ash’s lap, you made your way over to this idiot making your girlfriend uncomfortable.

Cassie had noticed and frowned, alerting the girls around her. Maddy, Kat, Jules, and Rue.

“What the fuck? Where’s (Y/n)?” Rue asked.

“I don’t know but we should fucking do something.” Maddy had basically growled.

“Uhh I don’t think we need to.”

Their heads snapped over to Jules and looked at her like she was insane and before Maddy could go off, Jules pointed over at the patio doors.

“Look.”

In you walked, a scary look on your face as you shrugged your jacket off and tossed it haphazardly on a table.

You gripped the back of the guys shirt and pulled him off of Lexi. The guy was angry and turned to you, opened his mouth to say something but he never got the chance. You had swung your fist and nailed him on the cheek.

They all gasped and the music stopped as someone screamed. The crowd separated and they watched as the guy hit the ground and you followed. Straddling his body and sending punch after punch.

As much as they agreed with your actions, they had to stop you or else you’d probably beat the poor guy to death.

However, someone had beat them to it. Nate had taken it upon himself to break it up. He leaned down and wrapped both arms around your waist and pulled you off.

“Get off of me asshole!” You thrashed in his hold and he let you go, putting his hands up.

Huffing a deep breath, you smoothed your clothes down. “Fucking keep your hands to yourself, bitch.” You growled, spitting at the battered boy on the ground.

Realization hit you as you looked around, everyone shocked. Some even looking at you like you were a monster. Then you looked at Lexi.

She was horrified, tears were flowing down her cheek as she looked at you in what you thought was fear.

“Fuck..” You sighed. “Fuck I- Lexi…” You reached out to her and she took a step back. The action completely obliterating your heart.

Taking this as your cue, you made your way out. Accidentally shoulder clipping Rue as you did.

“(Y/n) wait!” She called but you ignored her. Reaching for a full bottle of whiskey and grasping it, the way your knuckles flexed around the neck making you wince.

Then you were gone.

Lexi turned around and her eyes landed on your jacket. She grabbed it and placed it over her shoulders. Your smell permeating her nose and calming her nerves.

“What the fuck just happened?”
