✨lewis hamilton’s most underrated mclaren drives ✨
(with special dedication to: @l8tof1 & @sirlew44)
did a lil’ rewatch over the break and wanted to do a post about some of lewis’ most underrated wins/drives in f1 over the years; i realise that there are a lot of them and so i decided to split and do a post for his mclaren days and another one for his mercedes years.
a few words of introduction:
the thing about watching mclaren lewis and why it’s just such a privilege, is that this boy is special; babyfaced rookie picked from the crèche by ron dennis and who was told he’d be half a second off nando’s pace and that he shouldn’t worry, wasn’t just hungry he had something to prove, he will nawt be a second driver even if it’s to the reigning 2x world champion who has just come from beating THE michael schumacher, basically babes wasn’t having it and he put the fear of god into these drivers…and ron dennis (say what you want about that that man, but you can’t deny, he really girlbossed that one thing; giving lewis a car that was capable of winning, was a choice™️, but a very good one and we thank him for that); mclaren lewis is special because he’s hungry, he’s raw and fast, very fast, sometimes too fast and too reckless, but he’s learning, and when you watch these races and these seasons you see him learn and grow and change; all these seasons are different, but those mclaren years are just as important for the lore and who he is now and to witness the evolution of both the driver and the man is truly special; so this small collection of drives is a bit of a crème-de-la-crème if you will of those races that i think aren’t as mentioned in the pantheon of great lewis drives as much as i think they should, so let us begin:
fuji 2007 🇯🇵 aka the first rain dance of og bald baby mclazza rookie lewis, stunting on hoes since ‘07
people keep talking about silvo 2008 (and rightly so) but this one is a bit of a forgotten wet-weather masterpiece; talk about artistic sublimity, this is the racing sublimity of one 22-year-old rookie lewis hamilton; baby lewis was holding off his reigning world champion of a teammate absolutely majestically in torrential conditions, and executing the race and the restarts to perfection (race is also chaos personified so brilliant to rewatch). baby lew became a bit of a headache for the establishment™️ and one fernando alonso and it’s fun to watch.
germany 2008 🇩🇪aka mclaren pitwall terrorising baby lewis (the horrors started way before merc)
a race overshadowed by his brilliance in silverstone two weeks earlier (suffering from success and having consecutive masterclasses amirite), but it’s nearly as brilliant; this is lewis vs massa + the mclaren pitwall deciding to gamble with some fuckass strategy and leaving lewis out for a safety car restart, lewis having to pull massive gaps, driving the wheels of that mp4-23 and then overtake from p5 to take the lead; some brilliant overtakes and lewis displaying incredible race pace; this drive is the lewis hamilton special that massa had no answer for
singapore 2009 🇸🇬 aka lewis decided to serve cunt
to truly appreciate the sheer extent of said cunt serving, you have to watch both quali and the race; mind you, the 2009 mclaren was nawt it, the post-updates mp4-24 was still dogshit compared to lil’ sister mp4-23 and very much an underperforming and unreliable shitbox; the updates also came too late for lewis to put up a proper championship fight; however this did not stop from lewis from putting 2 whole ass seconds on his teammate, take pole ahead of the red bulls and the brawns and then dominate the race, with brilliant tyre management and race pace (40 secs ahead of kova, nearly 10 secs ahead of timo glock in p2 in a truly fuckass mclaren)
brazil 2009 🇧🇷 aka the road to legend is long and twisted and the brazilian racing gods clearly have a plan
p17 to p3; and no you may think this is one of those checo-esque recovery drives where you qualify terribly but have a rocketship so you overtake cars easily and finish the race in a position you should have started the race in; well, the mp4-24 actually qualified terribly in the wet (even post-upgrades, it was also set up for the dry) and was still very much mid on a sunday; lewis however babes was on yet another mission, overtaking cars *mwah* like please watch it; the brazilian racing gods truly picked a chosen one and his name is lewis hamilton i do not make the rules; his lil’ fist punching the air when he crossed the line says everything you need to know about what that drive meant to lewis (also like that boy was starving for a win around interlagos and to think the first one came only in 2016 jeez) the racing gods really wanted to make that man suffer biblically in true chosen one fashion before offering any type of redemption; you see interlagos and lewis is a special narrative, it’s about a boy achieving immortality in his hero’s homeland, and it goes all the way from 2007 to 2021 and beyond, and there are chapters in between, like 2009, that are worth mentioning, because the man is desperate for a win here and he’s getting so so close, hungry mclaren lewis you mean so much to me, he would eat anything and anyone and well,,,interlagos is lewis’ yearning personified
china 2011 🇨🇳 aka he WILL have his win and he will bite and claw his way towards it
hungry lewis starving for a win with a car that is half-decent is dangerous; this race is *chefs kiss* oh my god, please watch it, baby mclaren lewis on a mission, babes after the race said he doesn’t remember when he last won a race, like wdym it’s only been like 8 months my guy (we’re on two years now); drama starts before the race even begins, because he’s got a fuel problem and is literally mere seconds away from a pit-lane start but no that team and that man were on a mission: three-stopper, overtaking both seb and jb, terrifying race pace! he also gets a bit emotional in the cool down room and hugs seb 🥹
germany 2011 🇩🇪 aka vintage lewis special
another one where you have to watch both quali and the race, because baby goat was pulling quali laps out of his ass (imo probably one of his best non pole laps): he split the bulls and was only half a tenth from pole (also 1.2 secs ahead of his teammate); bear in mind we’re in the domination era of kinky kylie (rb-7) which took 12/19 victories and all but one pole position, which interestingly albeit unsurprisingly went to lewis in korea): that man was putting his entire lewpussy into those quali laps; now the race, ladies and gents (gn) this is where it gets tasty and spicy and if you want a three-car fight for the win this delivers on all fronts and provides lewis at his very best this is it;
a small (but important) tangent: i do find it slightly disappointing when people overlook lewis’ 2011 season entirely because of his getting outscored by jb; yes, it wasn’t a clean season from him, he made a lot of errors in the races and it’s quite a frustrating watch in general as a lewis fan, but he also had some absolutely brilliant races (i also can’t help but point out a similar trend that has happened with his 2022 season);
but anyway, this is lewis vs webber vs fernando, mclaren vs red bull vs ferrari for the entire race; overcut and undercut strategies happening simultaneously, lewis’ racecraft and defence on webber!!!!, and featuring a great overtake on nando!
+ honourable mention: australia 2009 🇦🇺 aka icarus flew too close to the sun
you’re prolly wondering why i’m including australia 2009, which is rather infamously known for ‘liegate’; but lewis’ (and mclaren’s) post-race shenanigans overshadow an actually brilliant drive from p18 to 4th (momentarily 3rd bc trulli got DSQ’d which was then reversed lmao; it’s a bit all over the place) in an actually dogshit mclaren that had no right fighting even for top 5; this is pre-upgrades wheelbarrow mp4-24, this is the stuff that makes the w13 look like a prima ballerina, well guess what lewis was the prima ballerina and was putting that mclaren in positions it really did not deserve to even bear witness to; and then there was a bit of a kerfuffle at the fia office (please read up on liegate it’s acc really funny, mclaren spectacularly shooting themselves in the foot 🙄), someone got fired, lewis disqualified, but oh well, shits and giggles innit (hindsight's a wonderful thing)
hope you enjoyed and i also hope this provided some inspiration for a rewatch :) 💜🏎
#lewis hamilton#this rewatch was honestly a pleasure to do because i genuinely haven’t seen some of these races in years#there will be a part 2 with some merc drives#f1#lewis mclaren rewatch

The other day I rewatched highlights of Silverstone 2024 and there were multiple instances where Oscar and Lando were on pace to win the race. But those strategic errors kept adding up. This was the best McLaren disasterclass because on paper they should have won. I can't even say it was divine intervention or the universe working in mysterious ways because Lewis called everything correctly which allowed him to take the win. It wasn't luck, it was just years of experience dominating and understanding wet conditions that which led to him winning.
#it was pure cinema#very blessed to have witness the win in real time with all of y'all#f1#formula 1#lewis hamilton#british gp 2024

hungary 2024 is so entertaining to rewatch as a lewis fan. you have mclaren comedy in full force with the race engineer holding a hostage negotiation mid race with lando, verstappen on the brink of a mental breakdown, gp on the radio sounding like he wants to quit his job on the spot. meanwhile lewis is just chilling and getting his 200th podium

who is your favourite driver? lewis
do you have any other favourite drivers? kevin and charles
who is your least favourite driver? everyone else
do you root for drivers or do you root for the team as well? i only root for lewis. where he goes i go.
if you like the teams, what team do you root for? if haas renew kevin i genuinely would become their #1 fan
how long have you been into f1? since lewis was doing back to back title sweeps…
what got you into f1? cars the movie. unironically one of my favourite movies. i was rewatching it one day like this fucks… i need the real life version, searched up “racing series lewis hamilton is in” bc he was the only racecar guy i knew loool and i saw he was still driving (idky i expected him to be retired #hag) for merc instead of mclaren, in f1. so i got on my zoom and started properly watching it. for him.
do you enjoy fanfic/rpf? to enjoy it i’d have to enjoy the drivers and that’s where you lose me….
how do you view new fans? if you willingly become a fan with the state the sport is in rn it must be bc you view things through a “fun” lens (ie ships, wacky narratives) which, good for you. but just know that you are actually delusional and nothing you say will ever hold value to me. personally
if you could take over as team principal for any team, who would it be and why? haas. for kevin.
are your friends and family into f1? yes, too many to count… unfortunately f1 is more common than we think.
are you open to talking to other fans/friends? if our views align then ofc. we are already like this 🤞 in my eyes
tagged by @boldlettered thank you baeloved
i’m tagging @lespleen-deparis @cazzadores @monacoprince @userhamilton & @killa-trav
#tagged#boldlettered#been saying it since day dot but if lewis wasn’t in f1 i would’ve got into nascar. or stayed a lady.

My fyp is filled with Lewis x Hamilton the Musical edits and they’re all very good. It led me to rewatching Hamilton. And again really good, I always forget how good the songs are.
But something that’s been stuck with me since I watched Hamilton, is that You’ll Be Back is so Christian Horner to Daniel Ricciardo coded.
Here’s a few lyrics that are the most CH to DR coded:
Remember, despite our estrangement, I'm your man
You'll be back, soon, you'll see
You'll remember you belong to me
You'll be back, time will tell
You'll remember that I served you well
When Daniel was dropped by McLaren in 2022, Christian Horner reached out and the whole Mexico hotel room conversation. It had been years but Red Bull was willing to take Daniel back into the fold.
You say our love is draining, and you can't go on
You'll be the one complainin' when I am gone
Daniel leaving Red Bull in 2018 and Christian saying that he’s running from a fight. Then Daniel not having as much success with Renault or McLaren as he did at Red Bull.
And no, don't change the subject
'Cause you're my favorite subject
Christian Horner has favorites and one of them is Daniel Ricciardo. The things he does for Daniel would not be done for most of the other Red Bull drivers. The honky tonk during the Nashville show run comes to mind because that was so over the top.

tell me abt the hockey au since u brought it up😼
All my knowledge of hockey is from NHL which I haven’t watched in more than five years😭😭 so if there are any hockey fans here, look away. There are probably loads of inaccuracies.
- George gets drafted by Mercedes at the age of 21 (have to make him younger in this because NHL drafts European/International players from ages 18-21)
- Or maybe George gets drafted by Williams at the age of 18 and then gets traded by Mercedes when he is 21
- Positions: Lewis as centre and George as left winger
- Oh, also, Lewis is the captain of the team
- Mercedes have won the Stanley Cup for 8 years and Lewis has won NHL Art Ross Trophy for 7 years- 1 with McLaren and 6 with Mercedes
- George obviously grew up watching Lewis and is one of his heroes. He knows Lewis’ strengths and weaknesses by heart because he has rewatched his games so many times and learned a lot from them
- Lewis doesn’t exactly hate George but he is… indifferent to George in the beginning. He is just this new kid that is way too confident for his own good (Lewis can’t complain when he was this way too, he still is)
- Mercedes downfall is happening just like in F1 (will have to figure out a reason if I do write this au)
- They lose one of the games biiiiiiiiiig time and they both blame each other because they are angry and frustrated. None of them knows which one moved first and kissed the other. They fuck in the locker room that night.
- The frustration fucking starts from that day onwards which of course changes to feelings
- During one of the games, a player from another team (don’t know which one. probably rb) slams George hard, injuring him. Lewis is the first one to react and slam the other player just as hard because no one touches his boy. Media makes it a big deal because Lewis hasn’t lost his temper like this since Nico. Lewis spends the night at George’s and takes care of him. It’s the first time they have spent time together without fucking
- Lewis asks George on a date (something he has wanted to for a long time) after George has scored the most goals in one game (he scores 3 out of the 4 goals)
That's all I had so far

You’ve maintained this interesting point that Lewis has trust issues(not that I’m trying to psychoanalyze him or anything😅 but It’s something I’ve always thought but didn’t understand why I thought like that) is it based on strategy or his decisions?? Could you elaborate why you think that??
So through my rewatch I've seen him, early in his career, lament that this sport forces you to rely on a bunch of other people to do your job and that you can't be sure they're putting as much effort into it than you are, basically. Implying that some people, specifically at McLaren at the time, were in fact not doing their work as well as they could have and that it was penalising him.
Then during the brocedes era, he got borderline paranoid at times. Mercedes famously took the extremely debatable decision to switch the employees on each side of the garage in 2016. Then he ran into a bad series of technical failures and made some impatient comments about "the guys in the garage" needing to figure it out and get it sorted basically. And it escalated until he said "somebody or someone doesn't want me to win this year" which caused a bit of a storm with Mercedes having to deny any sabotage and Lewis backtracking saying he meant God above or whatever.
I mean even recently, the car has been having issues and after a while of trying to figure it out and failing to do so he started saying his engineers weren't listening to him and that he had ideas to fix the car but they were dismissing him etc. When things don't go his way he gets impatient pretty quickly I guess? And in his bad moments he tends to blame people around him for it and second guessing them etc. That's what I mean by it. He seems very demanding, with himself first of all but also with others. And when things don't pan out and it takes a little while to solve the issue or there's just no solving it, he seems to think the others aren't doing everything they can to fix the problem.
That's how I got the feeling he has a touch of trust issues. Whether they are misguided or not and to what extent, that's a different question.

2010 F1 rewatch
Start of the season
We start into the season with Jenson Button as the defending champion, who switched from his championship-winning team (rebranded to Mercedes from Brawn GP) to McLaren, with teammate Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso is now with Ferrari (from Renault).
This season, there are - as we are often reminded - four World Champions on the grid: Alonso, Hamilton, Button and the returning Michael Schumacher.
The most important change this season is probably the stop of refueling during the race. In previous seasons, drivers stint lengths were dictated by the amount of fuel they'd taken on at the start, essentially making them commit to a strategy before the race. With this season, teams have more flexibility with pitstops, however, the cars all start heavy with a full fuel load and lose all that weight by the last laps, changing ride height and aero during the race.
Regarding this change, "A clever driver will win this season" was said during the pre-race coverage of the first GP. The commentators referenced Alain Prost, nicknamed "The Professor" and widely seen as a very calculative and smart driver, the last driver to win in a season that had no refueling.
Another important change was made in the points system, which now rewarded drivers from first to tenth place with points, from 25 for first, then 18,15,12,10,8,6,4,2 and a single point for tenth place.
The teams of 2010: Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes, Red Bull-Renault, Mercedes GP, Lotus-Cosworth, Force India-Mercedes, Williams-Cosworth, Renault, Toro Rosso-Ferrari, BMW Sauber-Ferrari, HRT-Cosworth and Virgin-Cosworth.
Pre-season, there was a lot of back and forth about a budget cap to allow teams with less funding to enter F1, however, this was not realized because the bigger teams saw the free competition endangered and threw a hissy fit, threatening to leave F1 and make their own series.
The drivers starting into the 2010 season are (in order of driver numbers):
Mclaren: Button, Hamilton
Mercedes: Schumacher, Rosberg
Red Bull: Vettel, Webber
Ferrari: Massa, Alonso
Williams: Barrichello, Hülkenberg
Renault: Kubica, Petrov
Force India: Sutil, Liuzzi
Toro Rosso: Buemi, Alguersuari
Lotus: Trulli, Kovalainen
Hispania: Chandhok, Senna
BMW Sauber: de la Rosa, Kobayashi
Virgin: Glock, di Grassi.
There's a lot more that can be said about the 'will they, won't they' drama of multiple teams trying to start in or pull out of F1 prior to the season, but that is a bit long for this short-ish intro. All in all, with multiple new teams, major changes and promising new drivers, the 2010 season looks to become a very special one...

Overanalysing Analysis
Me, sitting at the desk, suit and tie, glasses on: Ladies and gentlemen, today I regret to inform you that I have been overanalizing something that doesn’t needs to be analized to begin with, I completely lost about 3 hours of my life rewatching the same footage over and over, in very bad quality as well, so I could bring you content, not high quality content, quality is sold separatedly as DLC, just content. And that is: The brilliance of the only good parts of Cars 2, The race scenes.
So you better click out of this post right now else you’ll be reading the ramblings of a madman, don’t say I didn’t warned you.
Also, the less quality screenshots belong to the few footage of the Cars 2 DVD, that includes the deleted scenes of the movie.
First of all, the mockup SPEED Network titles and presentation, which resembles the official intro sequence of all FIA championship races, also the fact that they are using 3 official motorsport commentators.
They kept the logo on as the camera goes around as if this was the live feed from any race day. Normally this type of thing is done on the grid as these are the moments that preface the formation lap on any discipline, but I can see why they kept it inside the pits, else the pre-race chatter and the warmup wouldn’t be noticeable, also to cut production time, as pre-formation lap preparations tend to look like this
A bunch of equipment, umbrellas, engineers, media and overall clutter all behind the SC, considering that in Cars everyone is a car (duh, is in the name), this wouldn’ve been hell to fit in without making a random ass huge main straight, or making everyone be so awkwardly positioned on the grid.
Then we get the cars themselves
Francesco, obviously being a Formula 1 car, according to my guess (Source: trust me bro) being a hybrid between the F2004 and the F248 (2006 season), his swaying on the heating is minimal, slow reduced speed and pace on the out so the engine, electronics and brakes won’t overheat.
The GT cars (I actually have no idea who that is supposed to be), strong swaying and quick revving to keep the engine on the mark, as those cars, although specially fitted for racing, are still commercially available cars that you can buy, so keeping perfect temperatures and being “on the zone” at all times is not their main purpose unlike the LMP1, 2 and Formula cars
Next we have “Raoul ÇaRoule“, or, as I like to call him, offbrand Sebastien Loeb, because that’s totally who he is supposed to be, the french flag and the “rally champion” title give it off, considering he is still the one with the most titles in the WRC, which in the Cars universe is called the GRC but for just a name usage and some vague likeness, it just wasn’t worth the money, which is honestly an understandable choice; notice how his swaying is the most pronounced, and his rev periods are longer than anyone else’s, and that’s on point with rally cars, they are high torque high accleeration cars with a very open differential and a loose steering to allow for easy corrections and compensation without overdoing it, as they usually race on ice, dirt and other slippery surfaces that would make precise track-like steering a one way ticket into a tree.
A deleted shot, see the ammount of detail on that Vanquish GT.
Yes, that’s motherfucking Lewis Hamilton, portrayed as none other than a McLaren, as that’s the team he was racing for in 2011.
They even included a DMT/WTC car! And it seems to be a Mercedes CLK.
This shot is just beautiful, I’ll allow my suspension of disbelief to simply take the wheel here as those boxes are too close together and right next to each other, but who cares, the painted-over asphalt like the one in street circuits, the small “belly” at the bottom that McQueen’s tires get as his car-type is on the quite heavy side, the stiffness of Francesco’s tires with the toe in camber at the front wheels, the different tide width for each car, this show is just amazing.
A small shot that we get from McQueen’s POV, you can see the heat thing where it becomes blurry, you can see the details on that (obviously not licensed) LMP1 car with all the details on it, the classic Aston Martin GT body 3 places ahead of McQueen is also a lovely sight to see, with the high wing as they tend to have on GT Competitions.
The starting sequence is a pale where I can see that they put a lot of work and detail on, the rally car and the TOCA cars simply taking off as soon as the lights get green while the GT cars like the Corvette and the Aston Martin taking a bit longer, moving off the grid slower
But as soon as they move forward, they build speed insanely fast, also the huge detail of the Corvette’s bad start as he gets stuck on the first gear and can’t advance until a few seconds later, when he has the McLaren behind him already taking an overtaking line on the left. And don’t forget the AM’s diffusor almost touching the ground.
Another great shot, you can see all of their eyes looking to the left, where the distance to corner indicators are on, everybody looking for their insividual braking point, cars with slower speed but higher acceleration stay on the middle while high aero cars try to go for the inside like the LMP1 as it can brake faster than any other, or Francesco going for the outside so he can do the corner while braking the less, relying entirely on his aero.
Although out of focus, time to appreciate the detail of the back of Francesco, that’s some high detail modelling right there, you can see most of the components and how most of the car is actually empty underneath, you can even see how the suspension moves up and down as he goes thru the track, if I were to be picky the only thing he is missing is the recovery light at the bottom.
A million different lines all based on the specific car taking the turn, TOCA cars going for the inside at all cost so they can accelerate quicker, GT cars preferring a more open line to use the entire width of the track to be less aggressive on the tires as they weight a hell of a lot more.
Now the boxes are also a delight to see
“Gorvette” the GT Corvette gets an F150 (another Ford manufactured car) as its engineer.
A french car, the Citroën DS for the french offbrand Loeb.
A japanese car for the Japanese LMP1 car.
Francesco gets a 250GT Convertible, of course it is another Ferrari, lol
And you can see it on the back of the shot, the Spaniard racer gets a SEAT (possibly a SEAT Leon) as his engineer.
First of all, great lighting and great detail on the track; second, everyone but the rally car is racing on the wrong line, trying to take the path that is the straightest and with the least elevation changes, yet the rally one is the only one that takes the right one, the side with the most camber to help reduce the speed coming into the corner without having to touch too much of the brakes, an enviromental lift and coast if you must, and at the same time it takes advantage of his higher suspension rebound as he has less of a cahnce of bottoming out, unlike literally all the other cars.
OMG Is this Dirt 6?
That’s a pretty good shot right there, a classic “Left 4 DC Tightens, Right 4 Cut Opens”
Those red brakes, THOSE RED BRAKES, Beautiful.
Again, suspension of disbelief taking the wheel because that shot was amazing, but McQueen got the plot armor, do that big of a jump and see how you faceplant the dirt and roll over.
But at the same time, great how the other car is doing it the way it should be done, and even in the next shot you see how it has gained on McQueen by doing that.
The dirt on his body. The sense of speed of the scene. The way the sound echoes. I know this is “average japanese tunnel” but this whole sequence gives me “Monaco Tunnel section” vibes. If only this movie was as great as these shots
Another great backshot, nothing else to say.
Another deleted shot, this is what I meant by Monaco vibes, seeing his wheel so close to the wall and have the sound reflect that by echoing even louder is just great.
Absolute classic TV coverage angle, simply great.
Turn 13 Singapore my beloved, the section is longer than it is IRL and for obvious licensing issues it doesn’t has the metal arch that oversees the straight between 11 and 12, but it even has the small kink right that is turn 12 into the hairpin of Turn 13 just like in the real track
Even on a movie, Lewis is an asshole, brake-switching lanes and not allowing anyone to race on his side of the track, very IC representation of him (and this was in 2011 mind you, even before we saw more his.. interesting... interpretation of the F1 rules, was this some next level foreshadowing?)
Singapore Sling my beloved, I miss you (actually I don’t, I hope you never come back).
Notice how McQueen doesn’t even blinks until he is out of the section, and how every driver that comes moves their eyes from apex to apex
More Sling pics with moving eyes, I love it, also, look at the tyre marks, so beautiful, also that Vanquish nose, so beautiful x2, and lets not forget Loeb in the back doing the most open turns known to man (car?) so he doesn’t has to press the brakes and can just high-rev the entire section like in RXC.
Look at the muddy teardrop, look at the exhaust gas, look at the everything. I’ll never have enough of these low angle sideshots in any Cars movie. Also, mandatory Wangan mention.
You guys really pushing the suspension of disbelief here lol, no way in hell that a NASCAR (insert laugh emoji) car is able to hold back and gain from two prototype racers and and F1 car. Although Francesco is really pushing forward in that shot, but still.
But.
I don’t care, still a great shot, nice to see how much depth and detail is actually there.
He readies it and...
Amazing, as it should be, right on the tail, getting all the reduced drag possible before pushing out into clean air and passing the car like its standing.
Forget what I said earlier, no I am not going all the way up to correct it, if you made it all the way down here you can just pretend that I did, he has the recovery light, and is so pretty, the wing is so on spot, everything really, look at the dirst from earlier, how it splashes back, look at the closeness to the ground, everything is there, absolutely everything.
It’s such a shame that we really only have 1 full race, and the racen is constantly being cut out by some decaf 007 bs that nobody actually cared about; the whole plot of “multinational racing event that is just a big conspiration” was great as it was, because the sport has had lots and lots of those, just the name “Briatore” should be enough to make like 3 movies out of that, and that’s leaving out the lesser known but equally interesting scandals like Multi 21, and the sport defining moments like Jules’ incident (RIP), both the FIA and the FIM have enough drama by themselves to make a movie with this plot interesting enough with just that, racing, cars doing car things like the first movie (Even tho the first one is based off the year-round april’s fools joke known as NASCAR), zero need for Mater to be turnt into a James Bond LARPer

THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️
rules. answer the questions below!
tagged by @vinvantae tagging: everyone that wants to do it, just say i tagged you. also, @goldsainz @formulaforza @carlosheinz @chrysanthemonza
1. Who or what got you into F1?
-> my family! they've been enjoying motorsports for years so naturally, i ended up falling in love too. something about forced proximity lmaoo
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
-> kimi raikkönen!! as a child i would get really excited to see him on tv or on track, my parents said i recognized his car and all. i supported him always, followed his years out of f1 and all, he’s 100% my favorite of all time.
3. Who's your current favourite F1 driver?
-> i have two 2023/24 favorites: lewis hamilton and oscar piastri.
lewis has been a favorite of mine from the beginning, his racecraft has always been enjoyable to me. also, he’s one of the reasons why (alongside nico and schumi) i decided to support mercedes. he’s a big big inspiration for me, all of the things he has done are wonderful so i’ve never doubted him as one of my favorites.
oscar, on the other hand, is ofc a new addition to the ‘fav f1 driver’ list but is one that doesn’t surprise me! i saw him go up categories and loveeed his driving style. i was never a diehard fan but a supporter of his career for sure. when he got to f1 (and seb left) i knew who my new favorite was gonna be! (now i am, in fact, a diehard fan)
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
-> not a pairing but…a boy band…
they live on my head rent free, the videos (and the lore) were so funny (iconic). BUT, if i had to choose a pair, i would go for kimi and seb!! i had always wanted to see them as teammates bc of how well they got along, when it happened i was the happiest. also nico and lewis were my number ones back in the day and by consequence my biggest heartbreak.
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
-> everyone in the family likes something different. some have their special reasons but in general they vary.
dad’s favorites are mclaren, lauda, and senna, my oldest sister’s are mercedes and button, my older brother redbull and alonso, younger sister ferrari and verstappen (don’t even ask), and my mom’s favorites were ferrari, prost, schumacher, and häkkinen. <3
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
-> this is such a hard question but i’ll go for the ones i rewatch the most: united states 2018, canada 2011, suzuka 2005, abu dhabi 2010, turkey 2020, and germany 2019.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
-> hockenheim, suzuka, sepang, interlagos, istanbul, spa, silverstone. my lovers fr.
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
-> i have! i went to my first gp when i was almost one year old, it was france 2003 — nevertheless, the first one i remember going to/experiencing (faintly but i do) is the 2007 brazilian gp!
i’m lucky enough to have gone to multiple over the years and i’m so grateful to my family for it. 2022 and 2023 were the first years i was able to go by myself or with my friends/colleagues to races! (i did go a couple with my family + i go with my brother everywhere but yeah) it’s been amazing!
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
-> i’m very lucky to say yes, i have met a couple over the years and it’s been great! from the current grid i’ve met everyone but zhou and hülkenberg!!
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
-> FW14B, MP4/4, W11, F2002, RB19 AAAAAAAHQHEUJW. i believe this question goes more towards the liveries but i love those cars, they were such a wonder and the WAY they were driven. ugh. amazing. i love rewatching their races.
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
-> ok so, i would say george but since he’s still racing i’m not counting it. i’ll go with pastor maldonado. HEAR ME OUT. it was an insane day, i was ten but i still remember how crazy everyone felt there in barcelona, like what just happened. also insane to think about how it was pure pace, like yes he was lucky on saturday but sunday was his. ALSO having kimi on the podium is a huge bonus.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
-> “we have to remember these days. there is no guarantee they will last forever. enjoy them as long as they last.” — sebastian vettel, 2013.
“that’s for all the kids out there who dream the impossible, you can do it too.” — lewis hamilton, 2020.
“i’ve always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting even when there's only the slightest chance.” — michael schumacher, 2007.
“just leave me alone, i know what to do.” — kimi raikkönen, 2012.
“bwoah” — kimi raikkönen, always.

why is lando seen as arrogant? i know some of it comes from some comments he’s made about not feeling sympathy for daniel but in rewatching DTS i was surprised to find that other drivers had said things similar to that in the older seasons (can’t remember off the top of my head but i believe alex said it about pierre during that whole situation) but people don’t mention it the way they always do when talking about how much they dislike lando and how he deserves how bad the mclaren is now. or is not about the daniel situation and i’m missing something lol?
he's just there and performing. Max is seen as arrogant, George is seen as arrogant. Lewis is seen as arrogant for existing. Formula 1 is bad when my favourites are not succeeding, it is good when my favourites are. I am a Williams fan so it's been a pretty bad 26 years.

re: your #this is a mclaren hate blog tag, i'm rewatching dts right now and am on s3e8, it's the mclaren episode right after carlos announced he was be going to ferrari the next season and it's so so so ironic! somewhere at the beginning of the episode they talk about zak and lando's relationship being like a "father-son-relationship" and about how much zak cares about lando, during the episode they keep mentioning how of course they don't want to favour any of their drivers.. of course that wouldn't be fair.... keep bringing it up, equal chances and whatnot, and then it's about how they told carlos to let lando overtake in spielberg; because "when we need to let the other driver through, it's Only because we think the other car is faster".... and now two years later it's exactly the same bullshit going on at mclaren. at this point just throw away the whole team
sorry this is from like two weeks ago but!! always relevant :)
mclaren is so fucking full of shit!!! like, when it was nando and stoffel, they'd fuck over stoffel for nando and now that it's lando and whomever, it's always lando is Priority One
but, obviously he is going to be :) because zak brown is on quadrant's board :) and i'd imagine that when lando does well in a race quadrant makes more money :) so zak has a vested interest in lando always finishing before his teammate :) and a vested interest in making lando seem like a generational talent even when he has less talent in his whole body than max (or lewis) has in his pinky fingernail :)
like rip to the pastry in the future but he's throwing away the earliest part of his career to play second fiddle to lando while driving a shitbox (hope screwing over daniel was worth it, he may forgive you but i sure don't!) they fucked over carlos and they fucked over daniel for lando but they've been fucking at least one of their drivers over for the other one for over a decade!! and oscar is not going to be the exception, unfortunately for him
the only solution is, of course, as you say, to throw away the whole team :)

omg you can't drop a [redacted] like that i wanna know who that is!! i do not frequent the f1 subreddit for my own health but i am curious who they jerk themselves off over…
Aasdjef.........it's Carlos...... 🤭
And this has been going on for some time, probably since time at McLaren? In a 2021 r/formula1-wide survey (with twelve thousand respondents) McLaren was named the most popular team, while Carlos himself was like the 5th popular driver with 38.6% of votes, ahead of the likes of Charles, Seb and Lewis. Mind you, he came into Ferrari with two podiums to his name, and until this year, had no wins and no poles. In fact, before that, he was second on the most races before first win list. After some jokes about being a gravel trap honey trap at the start of the year he once again started gaining traction and popularity across the subreddit for vocally disobeying team orders, most notably in Monaco and Silverstone. "Stop inventing" became the new catchphrase. Of course in light of that Charles started getting compared unfavourably for not being "assertive" enough, not "leader" enough. Also, they think he's really hot and frequently make "he's making me question my sexuality" type comments about him. Iirc they were also holding up Hulk as being a conventionally good-looking alpha male type.
So back to those two. Looking at the 2018 stats from Hulk and Carlos's time as teammates (and I'm aware stats don't tell the full story but I'm not gonna go rewatch that season now so for the purposes of this post.....let's just go with the stats)... Hulk finished 7th in the standings with 69 (heh) points to his name. Carlos finished 10th with 53 points. The killer part? Hulk had a whopping 7 DNFs that year. Carlos had 2.
#replies#anonymous#they're having a mid off i fear.......#anyway all that to say hulk is def overrated and idk why he's still held in such high regard on that sub#i guess it's enough to say something funny/controversial and be perceived as ~manly & that makes you good self-insert material#the hulkenback covid sub running joke was funny but as a full-time driver?......why#mans is seb's age and a lot of the people who are rooting for him are the same ones chasing seb off into a retirement home#and hulk doesn't have a fraction of seb's talent or potential so like. make it make sense 🤔#so much for the ~young drivers invigorate the team!!! we need new blood!!!!!! philosophy ig

Please say you’re joking with that McLaren tyre management comment? Because if not then wow you really don’t get what you’re watching on track.
Norris has some of the best tyre management in the grid and the main reason they’ve been close to wins in recent races (China, Imola and the inters stint in Montreal) is primarily because of his tyre management. He deliberately holds back to preserve tyres early in stints to be able to make late charges late in the stints when the tyres go off. It’s why he managed to drive a car not suited to the track in China to P2 even before the upgrades. Why he was so fast toward the end of the first stint in Miami to the point that even without the safety car he would have jumped everyone up to Leclerc and then come out on much fresher tyres than Max & Charles (he was literally going significantly faster than anyone else on tyres nearly 30 laps older than everyone else’s because he had managed them so well). Why he almost caught Max in the final stint in Imola, because he held back until the tyres were in the perfect window and then pushed. Why he was so damn fast on the inters in Montreal (go rewatch the race, he holds back significantly early in the stint, that was because he was preserving his inters for when the track dried out a bit and then he starts to push. It’s also how he drove from last to 5th in Mexico last year, how he was so fast in Suzuka last year compared to Oscar (tyre management was the big differential there), why he was so far ahead of everyone in second in Brazil. It’s not just the car. All of them are literal displays of great tyre management right in front of your nose.
The best drivers on the grid at tyre management are Lewis, Max, Lando & Charles. If you want to see any example of terrible tyre management, look no further than George Russell.
Begging some of you to learn something about the sport before putting stupid takes like that out into the world.
maaan no need to be mean about it
yes, he knows how to do it, but neither the team nor him are being smart about it and Montreal was a great example of this, they failed to see that logan's car in the middle of the track would trigger a safety car and so they left lando with those used tires to defend pole position while everyone went for a pit stop. AND THEN HE HAD TO GO AGAINST MAX WHO HAD A FRESH SET OF TIRES.
what I'm saying is, (and this is my opinion, be mad about it, idc) there was no need to push so hard at lap 20 in a 70 laps race with such unstable conditions as Montreal. he knows how to manage his tires but he's not using that skill to get himself in pole position, he lacks consistency and sometimes fails to see how that tire management fits in the bigger picture of the race
