Shepard: Cortez, what's the status on the probe we launched? Cortez: Tracking it now, Commander. I've confirmed that Leviathan's signal originates from this planet. Heard how Ann helped us locate it. It's pretty spooky stuff. Garrus: Makes you wonder what we're going to find down there. Kaidan: A Reaper killer it would seem, and one that doesn't want to be found. Shepard: It doesn't have a choice. We're here. Garrus: Right, but then what? It plays pretty rough, and if it is a Reaper, I don't know that's the kind of help we want. Shepard: [We're not making friends]: Nobody says we have to be friends with it, but if this thing has the rest of the Reapers worried, then we need its help. Cortez: Commander, new readings from the probe. It's narrowed down Leviathan's location. You're not going to like it. Shepard: Let's hear it. Cortez: There's nothing but ocean. I show a concentration of structures floating on the surface, but the probe's giving us a signal below that. Way below. Shepard: Under water? Cortez: Looks that way. The shuttle should still be able to reach it. Shepard: That's possible? Cortez: The Kodiak is specced to nearly a thousand atmospheres... though I've never actually tested that. Shepard: Guess we're gonna find out-- Status? Cortez: Some kind of pulse hit us! Systems are shutting down! Brace for impact!

N7 Month Day 4: Dive

Mini-Entry

John had no idea how it started, but he felt cold. Cold and dark.

He had no memory of how he got to where he was. He turned his head, but everything felt slow, and he could see nothing but the pitchest black he'd ever known. He tried to walk, but as he kicked his legs this way and that, he couldn't find any purchase. He was floating, and he couldn't get anywhere. He began to feel dizzy, and his tongue found the overwhelming flavor of iron that could only be blood. He wanted to throw up, but he somehow knew that there was nothing in his stomach. He was simultaneously always in motion and absolutely still.

In the inky black, there was suddenly a piercing set of lights. They were somewhere between white and blue, and he instinctively felt that he was being examined. Not merely looked at, but studied. He was a petri dish, an intriguing rock found on an insignificant stretch of road. A pebble in the stream that glinted differently than the others. An intruder. A disgusting mold.

You have gone too far.

With a cry, John plunged forward in bed. His sheets felt soaked, and his skin was freezing and searing. He sniffed, bringing a hand to his nose, and as the light on his wife's side of the bed clicked on, he pulled his hand back to see it smeared with blood. His chest heaved out and in as he greedily took in a much oxygen as his lungs allowed.

"John," Tali asked, gently trying to turn him to look at her. "John, what's wrong?"

The Spectre blinked, looking at the woman next to him, grasping at memories of her. Tali'Zorah. Admiral of Civil Engineering. The love of his life. His best friend.

"John?"

He blinked again. "Bad dream," he said, and realized that he hadn't quite meant to say it.

Looking confused, Tali put her hands to his face. Looking at her, John noticed that his wife faired far better than he had in the night. She showed no signs of overheating, and her hair -- only a few inches long -- remained free of moisture. Her lips were bent oh-so-little in a concerned frown.

"Last time I checked, nightmares didn't cause nosebleeds in humans," she said, gently turning his head while she examined him. What she was looking for, he wasn't quite sure. Still, that didn't stop John from wanting to lighten things up.

"When was the last time you checked," he asked, trying to smile, but wincing. He began to notice a horrific dull headache.

Eyes clicking back to his, one of Tali's hands lowered. "Last week. Have to stay up to date on my dashing hero's biological quirks."

John said nothing, electing to lean into his wife's tridigital hand. He closed his eyes, and in the interest of his bloodstream, began breathing softly out of his mouth. His heart calmed, finally able to come up for air.

Doing the Leviathan DLC before "officially " locking in the romance with Garrus has robbed me of certain dialogue, but going to the Citadel immediately after and locking it in just feels...right.

Like Cassia hops into the ocean for over an hour to talk to alien Cathulu, almost gets killed by a Brute fight and is just barely conscious. I bet that scared the shit out of him.

So he decides to make it official.

(Also, it would have been really cool to get special dialogue during that scene if you did quests in this order but oh well.)

The way home is through Leviathan. Cortez: Okay, seals check out. Oxygen pressure is nominal. Systems are a go. It's as ready as I can make it. Shepard: [I'm ready]: Let's go. Kaidan: But Shepard... Shepard: I'll be fine. Closing hatch. Engaging systems... Ready. Cortez: Testing comms link. Shepard: I read you. Here goes. Commencing dive in 3... 2... 1...

I love this DLC but I'm thalassophobic so this part always gives me so much anxiety 😭
