“I’m driving, what do you want?”
“What?” Hange singsongs. “Can’t I just call my favorite architect friend?”
“I’m your only architect friend. I’d say Shadis barely counts, seeing as you-”
“Don’t you bring that up with me! I don’t know who started that joke that I had a crush on him,” it was Isabel, but, to be fair, she was, like, 15 at the time, “but I just thought Keith was cool! And that was way back in college!”
Levi knows that, but he rolls his eyes anyway.
“Okay, so what do you want?”
”Oh, I just wanted to call you for no reason.”
“Really?” His sarcasm bleeds through the line.
”Nope! No reason at all!”
Levi sighs. “I’m hanging up,” he takes a hand off the wheel to end the call from his car’s monitor, “text if you want to annoy me, I’ll look at it when I’m home.”
Hange’s voice passes through again. “Wait!”
“Fucking what?”
“I’m actually calling to ask if you’re gonna be free this weekend?”
Well, he knows where this is going.
“We’ve gone out every weekend for the last month, Four Eyes.”
“And?”
Which excuse is he going to give this time? “I have work.”
“Do you really?”
"Yes." This time, he's not lying—he has a work meeting tomorrow—but he'd still say yes regardless.
“Ok, well, we’ll only be out for a couple hours! Do it when you get home! You aren’t being paid extra to work overtime, anyway, so just come with! I was thinking that we could get dinner with, you know, the whole crew, plus my super cool neighbor-slash-best friend!”
He pauses for a second before putting his hand back on the wheel, sighing.
“Yeah, I’ll pass.”
“Oh, come on! Who else are you gonna socialize with? That bald dude that regifted you his grandma’s tea set?”
“He’d be better company than you, holy shit.”
“Then he can come too!” Hange laughs, and they sigh happily. “You’re coming with us, capeesh?”
Levi flicks his signal on as he waits to turn into the open parking lot in front of Magnolia Floral. “I wasn't lying, I do have work. Go without me, what’s the big deal?”
“Aw, really? That sucks! Okay, next week, then!”
Levi groans, letting himself fall forward enough to tap his forehead against the top of his steering wheel. “I’m so sick of you.”
“So what I’m hearing is ‘yes, Hange, I would love to grab dinner with you and the others next weekend! Thank you so much for inviting me, and I’ll happily wait for more details?’”
“No.”
“Well, that’s what I heard. This all works out anyway, since I just remembered Astraea is staying in this weekend. I'll text you later! Buh-bye!” They hang up, and Levi lifts his head to sigh and put his focus back on the road.
Why him? Why does it have to be him?
He’s not an idiot. He knows Hange is trying to set him up with you, and so is everybody else.
He supposes that you probably can’t pick up on Erwin and Miche’s scheming because you only knew Erwin as your work superior and you’d only met Miche for the first time a few weeks ago, but it’s not lost on him at all that the two aren’t subtle at all in their unnecessary teasing and excessive play on his “positive qualities.” Erwin drops a line or two about how Levi lead the pack of them professionally, Miche casually mentions his master’s degree, and the cycle repeats while the two of them are high-fiving each other underneath the table.
(Moblit is excluded from all this because Levi knows the guy couldn’t give a rat’s ass about anyone’s dating life (save for Hange’s—it’s painfully obvious he’s liked them since that one time they kissed at some college party Levi was forced to hear the details of from Furlan) (Isabel asked for them, not him). Moblit minds his own business otherwise).
But at least those two are at least attempting the art of subtly. With Hange, they burn the canvas with a million matches and chooses to start a bigger fire elsewhere.
”Hey, did you know Levi is set to be tenured in a few years?”
”Say, doesn’t his hair look so good today?”
”Levi, why don’t you tell her what kind of car you drive?”
”Oh, didn’t you mention making, like, seven figures a year? Really, no? Is it eight now?”
It’s so juvenile, the way they try to make him out to be such an eligible bachelor, and, quite frankly, it’s embarrassing. It’s humiliating enough that he has to be out in public with them when they act like this, but also in front of you?
Yeah, no thanks.
Ugh, and, best worst of all, “oh, Levi, you go sit next to her!”
“…Why?” You’d ask. Levi's too mortified to ask himself.
“I wanna sit with Moblit, and Miche and Erwin need to be on the ends because their legs are so long!”
Levi swears Hange makes sure to choose restaurants and eateries with only booths to accommodate their party.
He doesn’t say anything about it to them right there because doesn’t want to be rude and suggest the notion that he’d rather drive off a cliff than be squished into a booth between a giant (Erwin) and someone he’s already way too nervous to be around (you), but he hopes it’s still obvious enough to you that he’s not the one orchestrating this contact, regardless of how harmless it actually is. You probably do know all of the above is Hange’s doing, since he assumes you know well enough by now that that’s just how they are, but if you’re bothered by it, you don’t mention it yourself, and it’s not obvious enough to him for it to be any outstanding issue.
Quite frankly, that’s also probably why he’s gone this far without wanting to actually drive off a cliff—the fact that you’re also being forced in the spotlight, and that he’s not entirely alone in this weird high school-esque matchmaking plot.
It certainly doesn’t matter to Hange whether or not the two of you are receptive to their teasing, but it’s good enough that Levi can share his misery with someone else. Gives him something to think about to stave off any embarrassment that’s beyond what’s normal for Hange to bring upon him, and the forced proximity is great practice for him to steel his expression during more intimate interactions. He’s gotten pretty good at it, not that you’d notice anyway since you’re in your own world sometimes, just folding paper stars while he watches and everyone else at the table complains about the drive over.
It's probably just because he’s the closest one to you, but when you’re finished with folding a few, maybe four or five, you drop them into his hand. He rolls them around, one by one, in-between his fingers, and he just nods when you smile over at him.
Totally not because he has no other idea how he’s meant to react when that happens, but yeah.
This is all fine.
He’d rather you be uninvolved entirely, but this is the next best thing.
And, well…
He supposes it’s a nice change of pace that he now has someone to talk to on the bus, even if just once a week. He did use to wonder what your company would’ve been like (….even if that was just a month ago), and while the circumstances of his formal introduction to you were less than ideal, it’s… nice to at least know your name now. There isn’t really much that you and him talk about besides what’s considered office small talk. Maybe you'll imply you've been sleeping worse or that work's been especially hard, and he'll do the same, but that's all in-between much more lighthearted dialogue about how the weather is or what your weekend plans are.
It’s very casual, but it’s cordial, and that’s more than he can say for pretty much any other conversation he has throughout the week, so that’s good enough for him.
Plus, you have pretty good decent taste in tea, so at the tip of his tongue is a question about what you’d suggest. He’s never actually asked, but maybe he’ll venture past what’s already been established as the boundaries of this routine when the two of you aren't being constantly hounded by Hange. It's just the two of you on the bus on Fridays, but there's still the ghost of awkwardness that lingers from all the embarrassment Hange brings upon them on the weekends. It'd probably be there even if Hange wasn't like that, but, for now, he's just going to blame his nerves on that.
The driver behind him honks their horn at him, and Levi sighs again as he raises his hand in apology and puts his foot back on the pedal.
Fucking, whatever. At least there’s something for him to be looking forward to for next week, even if it is just another handful of paper stars he drops into his glovebox. Not that that really beats out seeing you on the bus, but he'll deal with that thought later.
✰
Ok, so maybe it isn't the worst thing in the world that he's being forced to go out soon. He really could use something to keep him away from his laptop because it's probably going to explode from all the angry typing he'd bound to do soon, all things considered.
Ugh, winter semester has barely even started, and there's already so many things irritating him. It's not even like it's his fault.
He spent all of winter break prepping for the new term, making sure to correct all his mistakes from fall semester, but there's a whole new plethora of problems that arise now that he's actually trying to settle into the groove of things. He was beating himself up already with the pacing of his class (which he still does, but he'd spent the last month trying to get back everyone back on track to pass, so he feels better about that now), but as the semester's progressed, he's come to realize that these problems aren't even his doing.
Annie, one of his teaching assistants, had emailed him earlier in the week to meet today before class, and she told him that, apparently, the department decided that it was a great idea to schedule all the core architectural classes at the same exact same times on the exact same days, and that's why so many students don't show up half the time and why the rest can barely keep up, even if Levi was moving slight above pace for the first couple of sessions.
He doesn't even smoke, but as the words pass through her lips and she expresses her frustration and thinly-veiled contempt, he wants to bolt to the nearest smoke shop and get a pack of cigarettes to burn through. Annie leaves after Levi reassures her that he'd figure this all out and to relay that message amongst the other TAs, but now, as he walks back from yet another lecture with half the seats empty, he can't stop himself from sighing as he keeps his arms crossed on his walk over to the bus stop.
Seriously, what kind of fucking idiot thought that would be a good idea? He wouldn't have bothered blaming his students for double-booking courses since it's not exactly easy to get a schedule put together in the first place, but, now, he can't even if he wanted to.
How he's meant to remedy this problem, he's got no idea right now. None of his asshat colleagues even bother replying to his emails under any circumstances (especially Pixis), so he doubts they'll be any help even if they did ask. Not to mention the fact he has close-to-no pull with the department considering it's his first year teaching and he's technically still on professional probation, and he'd probably have a better shot at getting struck by lightning than being able to get different times made available for his classes.
His feet somehow guide the way to the bus stop without him really putting much thought into it, and as he goes to tap his fare against the scanner, he thinks to himself that maybe today's meant to be the day that he actually talks about something other than the weather with you. Work's never really been something Levi's found much enjoyment in talking about with others, since he's always considered his work and his private life to be very separate, and, well, private, but, all things considered, he think you'd listen without judging him.
Besides, you're a part of the bridge's journey between work and his private life, and no doubt that you have your own complaints about your day. Maybe it'd be a nice offer of comradery for his fellow subject of entertainment.
He finds his usual seat on the right, facing the sidewalk, and he slings off his backpack to put onto the spot next to him. He'd thought it was a bit much for him to him have done it last week, considering that he really doesn't need to (that one day in January was an exception), but there's no ulterior motive to it; it's just a gesture meant for himself since he moves the backpack onto his lap when the bus approaches your stop.
He'll just call it a force of habit, or something like that. He doesn't know the exact phrase he'd use, but that's hardly relevant when he'd never admit to doing something like this to literally anyone.
The bus starts back up again, and Levi tips his head back against to top of the seat to stare at the overhead lights and the route map sticker pasted above the windows. His eyes follow the red line connecting all the stops, back and forth, because it's a hell of a lot easier than accidentally letting his thoughts linger on the shitfest that is his teaching career right now, and the gentle hum of the engine combined with the rock of his seat keep his other senses occupied. He looks out at the street view in his peripherals to see if the bus has miraculously moved fast enough to get to your stop before all the other ones that come before it, but that's more of him just trying to waste enough time for you to get on.
His fifteenth time following the red string, the bus where it's meant to catch you, and Levi scrambles to move his backpack off of your seat. He holds it up by its lifting handle and gently holds its side to shake off any dust that's caught on the bottom of it, then placing it on his lap before cautiously looking out towards the front of the bus where the scanning machine is. His hands have learned to not show his nervousness anymore after having to hold them out to you so often, but he tries his best to not let it show on his face. He leans forward slightly to see because there's a few stanchions blocking his vision of the front, and he rests his chin atop his bag.
The first person that comes on isn't you, but Levi thought it could've been because the light reflecting off their watch is like the one that comes from the the clasp of your briefcase. The second person that comes on isn't you, but Levi swears it might be because the tap of their shoes on the upwards stairs are like the clicks of your flats. And the third person. And the fourth person. And the fifth person. After eight people get on the bus and are squared away in their seats or standing and holding the railing, the doors close, and the engine starts back up again, the seat to his right still unoccupied.
Levi has to blink to really make sure he hadn't missed seeing you sit down next to him. He can hear the jingle of his bird keychain as the bus starts and stops, so his ears work; he hadn't missed your greetings to the driver. He looks back up at the red line chart and through the window to make sure it'd stopped exactly where it's meant to catch you, and it did.
Huh.
It's probably just the break in routine that's getting to him, but his face falls slightly. He slumps back in his seat, moving his bangs out of his face, and he sighs as he lets the weight of his backpack settle further back onto him.
Like a rolodex, his mind riffles through all the possible explanations as to why you aren't here, cards flipping mechanically and without rest.
Are you stuck in the office? Did you get off early? Did you decide to try out a new line to get home? Is he the one that's on the wrong bus? Did you take your car to work today? Did you decide you were getting sick of having to see him so often?
The actual answer could be more important to him if he had any semblance of entitlement for your thoughts, but he doesn't, so the reason why you're not here isn't important either. The two of you hardly know each other beyond formalities and half-truths that're probably more fiction than not, and while, yes, he isn't repulsed by your existence like he is most other people, that's not enough reason for him to really have that be any of his business.
Still, he thinks he cares is curious enough for it to not be that weird if he were to text you and ask if you weren't going to be on the bus at all today.
Maybe something happened to you? There's no harm in looking out for someone who's, at the very least, a frequent acquaintance, right?
Looking over at the empty seat next to him, he concludes that he is right; it really would be okay. He wouldn't mind if you'd done the same if you were in his position, or more since he'd think you're more forthcoming with your friendship than he is. You've already exchanged numbers anyway, even if neither of you use it, so it's not like he's really having to go out of his way to contact you.
Think of it as a premature gesture to reassure you that his opinion of you hasn't been tainted by Hange's ramblings about your (definitely inflated) salary and whatever else they want to lie about.
He moves his backpack back onto your seat so he can stand briefly to get his phone from his back pocket, and he rests his right elbow on the plush of his bag as he pulls up your contact on his phone. He drums his nails against its side as he ponders what to text, but it's not all that hard when it's straightforward enough.
Not taking the bus today?
That's casual enough. Not demanding of any further answers, not too small-talk-esque that it suggests he's only asking to get your attention for something else.
Very casual. Very simple. Very face-value.
Yeah, that's good.
He sends it as-is, and he sees the Read receipt almost immediately. No reply comes in, though, even after he waits for a minute or so, and he pockets his phone again to ignore the email notification he just got from his work account.
That's kinda embarrassing, but whatever.
It's probably better, then, that you're not on the bus today. He can't imagine how boring he would've been to you, talking about his work, and how inconsiderate it probably would've been if he just sprung that on you. He imagines the most likely reason you're not here is that you're caught up in the office, and that combined with the bags underneath your eyes that he's noticed over the past couple of weeks means you probably have your own share of hardship at work too. He wouldn't ever comment on it, but it's best left unsaid anyway.
He sighs as he crosses his arms and tips his head down to wait out the rest of the ride. He'd go to sleep if he could, but a thirty-minute nap hardly sounds appealing anyway with all the bumps and breaks of the ride. His mind just focuses on the abrupt starts and stops, and because there's so many and they're so inconsistent, he's very easily able to just force time to pass that way and, sooner rather than later, he's at his stop, and he boards off after raising his hand in thanks to the driver through the rear mirror.
On her way out the house this morning, Isabel mentioned that her evening class was cancelled for the day (basically asking if Levi could take her home after her afternoon shift), so after he slings his backpack onto both shoulders, he heads over to the floral shop to go fetch her. She should be wrapping up by the end of the hour, but Levi's fine just waiting in his car 'til she's done. As he approaches it, he rolls his eyes at the display that's been put up in the storefront window.
Gaudy, obnoxious red roses in (quite frankly, kinda ugly) vases line the bottom, and hearts are drawn over the glass in all the cheesy romantic colors. Heart balloons with corny pick-up lines and red animals are floating at the sides of the display, and Levi can see more of them lingering at the back of the shop. There's a holiday banner hung at the top of the window and there's lights strung beneath it, and Levi cringes to himself as he takes it all in. He'd already been acutely aware that Valentine's Day was coming up because several students have asked for extensions on their projects that're due by then, but, now, it's like he's being forced to remember.
No doubt that this is all Isabel's handiwork because none of this was up when he parked his car here in the morning. The elder Magnolias have no trouble with subtly and they already had a Valentine's Day display set up with some teddy bears and their usual assortment of roses at the front, but their daughter probably just wanted to make a bigger deal out of it and redid it herself. Probably told them that it'd be better for business if lonely businessmen were to be reminded of the upcoming romantic holiday (even though any respectable husband would've remembered regardless, and the less-than-respectable ones would just go to the grocery store just a few feet away for shittier flowers instead).
Levi looks over his shoulders to check that there's nobody around (because the last thing he wants people to think is that he buys into this romantic bullshit), and he opens the door to the shop to go check on Isabel. The bell rings as he steps inside, and he scans the store quickly to look for her, and he spots her at the counter where she usually is, her back turned.
"Isabel, do you need a ride back toda-"
And, mid-sentence, he makes eye contact with a very familiar face.
You sheepishly wave from where you are, right at the counter. "Hey, Levi."
He pauses, blinking.
What're you doing here?
He makes his way closer to where you and Isabel are, his eyes looking anywhere but you. They land on the countertop, where, now that he's closer, he can see that Isabel's assembling a bouquet.
Isabel turns around, and she waves at him in greeting. "Nah, I'm good. I was gonna go to the movies after my shift's over." Levi nods, and his eyes drift back awkwardly to you. "Oh, yeah!" Isabel continues, pointing an accusatory finger at him. "You bastard, she told me you guys made the tarts! Why didn't you just tell me that? Me and Furlan have been looking all over Yelp to try and find them, and you just let us struggle!"
Levi rolls his eyes. Seriously, that's what she's mad about? "Because, if I told you, you'd force me to make them for you."
"Damn straight I would!" Isabel whines while grabbing some more floral accessories. "You don't even know how to bake! Is that why some of them were so ugly?"
To his right, you laugh, looking away from the pair to hide your smile. Levi holds his breath for a second to steel his face because he already can feel blood rushing to his face.
"Yeah, Levi, why were they so ugly?" You tease.
"Good one!" Isabel laughs, the sound just a bit louder than the crinkle of the floral wrapping paper that she's assembled around the bouquet. She tilts it up to show it to you, and she waits as you get closer to look at it. "How do you like it?"
Is it yours?
"It's perfect! Thank you so much!"
Levi stands where he is as you and Isabel drift over to the register, but your eyes float back to his once you're there.
Again, he steels his face. He can't be too sure he doesn't turn red if he doesn't do that.
"Why didn't you tell them where they came from?" You ask.
He shrugs, leaning back onto the counter. "Didn't want to bother you for the recipe if they asked for more." That, and he doesn't want to give off the impression that he only values your company because you can give him something tangible.
Oh, god, he's trying so hard to look nonchalant, but he's already having trouble not stealing glances over at the bouquet now sitting on the register table while Isabel punches in something into the machine there.
Red and white are the colors he spots in the assortment. No roses, but it seems Valentine-esque, doesn't it? He's not so old-fashioned to believe that any and all flowers are just for lovers, but it's the most natural assumption when Valentine's Day is less than a week away. He doesn't think Hange would encourage homewrecking, so he'll rule out the possibility that you've got a lover already, but maybe you're interested in someone else already and just waiting for Hange to get off your back so you can pursue them?
He sees you wave your hand half-heartedly, and he pulls his attention away from the flowers.
"It wouldn't be a bother," you tell him, smiling slightly.
"I don't think I could make them anyway. It was mostly you."
You roll your eyes at him, probably teasing him. "Don't sell yourself short. I could make them again for Isabel and your other friend too, you know? I don't mind."
Before he can tell you he wouldn't want to inconvenience you and pull you away from whatever free time you have outside of work and hanging out with Hange (which he assumes isn't that much time to begin with), you excuse yourself to go over to the register and pay for the flowers.
You smile at Isabel, and you bring up the bouquet to smell them before tucking them underneath your arm. "I should be leaving now, but thank you so much, Isabel! I'll be sure to get some more tarts to you, and I'll text you," and you look over at Levi now, that smile still on your face as you speak to him, "the recipe when I'm home, okay? Bye"
When you're out the door, Levi turns to glare at Isabel.
She looks back at him, eyebrow raised. "What're you looking at me like that for?" Looking between him and the door, she smirks, crossing her arms across her chest. "You want me to tell you who those flowers are for, don't you?"
Levi frowns, scrunching his nose. "What the fuck? No, I don't."
"You totally do!" Isabel laughs, uncrossing her hands to put her elbows on the register. "What, you like her? I don't blame you, she's really pretty! I have been wanting to go to a wedding lately, think you'll be having one anytime soon?"
"I don't like anyone, much less her," he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "And since when do you care about my dating life?"
"You don't have one for me to care about!"
He walks over to her, flicking her forehead once he's close enough. "Exactly, and that's how it's going to stay." Isabel knows by now that Levi's just messing around, so she doesn't move her hands, instead letting Levi rub at the spot with his thumb so that it doesn't hurt.
Still, that doesn't stop her from whining. "Oh, come on, Levi! I'm just teasing you!"
Levi pulls away and rolls his eyes. "You must think you're so funny."
"I do, actually," she huffs, smiling. "Okay, but, really, do you wanna know?"
Yes.
"It's none of my business."
She raises a brow. "That's not a 'no.'"
"It is."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Romeo," Isabel taunts. "Say, do you think you could give me her number? She seems really nice, and it'd be good for me to be acquainted with a lawyer, y'know? In case I get into legal trouble or something."
"You're insufferable. I'm going home," Levi groans. "And she's a family lawyer. Unless you need a divorce or custody of your kids, she's not gonna be much help." On top of giving out your personal information being a real invasive breach of privacy, he's a bit humiliated to be left on read. He's not just gonna go back and look at your contact just to be reminded of how pathetic he is.
"Still! I think she's cool, I'd wanna be friends with her! Do you think you could at least pass my number off onto her?"
"Ask Four Eyes for her number if you want it so fucking bad, I'm not doing that either."
"You're no fun," Isabel sighs. "Well, go on home. I'll be back at, like, 11 or something."
"Call me if you need a ride later, Furlan's out for drinks with his coworkers so don't get in a car with him. Or make one of your annoying ass friends drop you off, I don't care as long as you come back in one piece."
"Yes, dad, I'll make sure to wear my seatbelt too," she replies, waving him off in the direction of the door. "Now, shoo!"
"Don't need to tell me twice," he says under his breath, turning on his heel to leave.
Just before he puts his hand on the door to push it open, Isabel yells out at him again. "Wait! I actually forgot my keys today, can you or Furlan stay up to open the door when I'm back?"
"No." He already saw that she left them in the morning, though, so he fishes the obnoxious neon orange lanyard she keeps her keys on from his backpack's side pocket and throws it back to her. "But stop forgetting them. You're lucky I saw them on the couch on my way out."
She catches it before grinning at him and making a heart with her hands above her head. "You're the best, Levi! How ever can I repay my hero?"
"You can start by vacuuming the living room."
"Oh, nevermind then."
He expected as much. "Of fucking course. Anything else?"
"Well, Romeo, since you were asking, she was getting those flowers for her-"
And before she can finish her sentence, Levi is through the door and already on his way out.
✰
After getting home, getting changed into comfier clothe, and making dinner for himself (and for his housemates to eat when they get home), Levi is now at the dining table, typing an email on his laptop as he gets ready to turn in for the night.
The solution he's come up with to making sure his students don't fall behind and don't have to choose between his class and someone else's whose much less forgiving is that he's going to have to start recording his lectures and providing a separate transcript of his lessons. It's unfortunate that that's the only reliable enough option, since it's sure to lessen attendance and the department will hound him for not being strict enough to demand it, but it's the only solution Levi has that isn't going to inconvenience anyone but himself.
He has to email the technician for the lecture hall he teaches in because it doesn't have a camera and recording system hooked up, and he'll figure out what else needs to be done later. He's already done enough since having dinner—redoing his course syllabus sheets, contacting all his TAs and students and informing them of any changes, doing some preliminary grading to help take the load off his teaching staff—and a lot more to do, but, right now, all he cares about is getting settled in for the night and having a cup of tea.
After proofreading the email and making sure that he's properly listed what he needs for the class recordings to happen, he hits send and is on his way to get some water boiling. He closes his laptop and brings his phone with him to the kitchen so he can keep track of time, and he goes to the counter to grab the kettle and fill it with water.
While he's waiting for it to get full, he hears his phone go off with a text notification. Is Isabel already on her way home?
He checks it, and it's you.
Astraea - 8:56 PM
sorry i didn't get back to you earlier yeah, i had work off today to plan an intern's birthday party
...Is that who the flowers were for?
Levi mentally knocks himself for immediately assuming that they'd be for someone else for something else, but before he can do anything else about it, the water has spilled over and Levi has to frantically move it out from under the spout and put the kettle on the counter. He goes to grab a kitchen towel to clean up the spill, and he frowns as he goes to pick up the now-wet fabric and put it in the laundry bin in the washroom. Coming back to the kitchen, he plugs in the kettle and turns it on. While he's doing that, his phone goes off again, but it
When he comes back, there's another text from you. This time, it's a picture from what looks like a handwritten recipe book.
Astraea - 9:03 PM
here's the recipe! sorry, my handwriting's kind of garbage
Clicking on the picture and zooming in, it really doesn't. It's fine enough to read, all the numbers clear and written distinctly. The two-page layout is spotted at the edges with what looks like flour residue and earmarked, but it looks like all the other pages in this recipe book are too. It seems well-loved.
Levi - 9:07 PM
No need to be sorry I was just worried you missed our bus
Is that the right word to use? Worried? The word feels a bit too... intimate, but Levi thinks it's the truth; he was worried something had happened to you, even if he knew he wasn't entitled to know what that was.
Looking at the text again now that it's sent, his face falls when he reads that he'd written out "our bus."
He puts his phone face-down on the counter and runs his hands down his face, groaning.
Why the fuck did he do that? Sure, he considers seeing you there every week part of his routine, but that doesn't mean he entirely associates it with you. He doesn't own the bus, neither do you, so what the fuck was he thinking, call it our bus?
Okay, okay, he can save this. Hange, in their infinite wisdom, would suggest making a joke, and even though Levi doesn't quite listen to their advice, that seems like the appropriate thing to do now.
Levi picks up his phone again.
Levi - 9:09 PM
And I'm a professor, do you think I can't handle some messy handwriting?
He waits impatiently when he sees you typing back a response near immediately, but a breath of relief passes through his lips when you don't say anything about his text about our bus.
Astraea - 9:10 PM
i said nothing of the sort! but is it really that messy?
Levi - 9:10 PM
I can read it just fine Thank you for sending it
He's not entirely sure he's going to be making use of it anytime soon, but it'll be nice to have if he needs to get Isabel to clean her bathroom or get Furlan to grab dinner on his way home when Levi's took lazy to cook.
Astraea - 9:11 PM
yeah, of course! let me know if you need help with any of it
Levi - 9:12 PM
I definitely will need it
Astraea - 9:13 PM
i can also make them for you guys i really don't mind
Levi frowns slightly. Of all the half-truths Hange tells him about you to get him interested in you, the one he finds the most true is that you're much too kind and forthgiving with your time.
Levi - 9:13 PM
You barely have time to sleep
Astraea - 9:14 PM
and how do you know that?
Levi - 9:14 PM
You look more tired nowadays
Astraea - 9:14 PM
that noticeable?
Levi - 9:15 PM
Yeah, no offense
Fuck, why the fuck did he say that? It isn't that hard to keep his mouth shut about it, but it's not really like he's lying or exaggerating. He groans again as he puts down his phone, this time, face-up, and he hears that the kettle beeps. As he goes to grab a teacup for himself and the cannister of dandelion root tea that's about half-way empty now, he sees another text back from you.
He tips some of the tea leaves into a strainer, and he drops it into his teacup, watching as the colors bleeds into the water. In his peripheral, he reads what you'd said.
Astraea - 9:16 PM
none taken i'm in bed so i'm gonna go to sleep
That's good to hear. He'll assume that Hange's backed off on having you join any plans now that Levi isn't coming, so you can actually rest up this weekend. He sets a timer for his tea before replying to you.
Levi - 9:16 PM
Sleep well then
Astraea - 9:16 PM
you too!
There's an unfamiliar flip in his chest at the sentiment of the text—like he's about to throw up but he doesn't feel the actual dread that comes with that feeling—but he ignores it.
And maybe it's because you're already on his mind and there's already a cup brewing, but he takes a picture of the teacup as it sits alone on his countertop, and he considers for a second sending it to you so that you can see that he's making good use of what you'd given him. He attaches it, and he types out the first thing that comes to mind.
I will. See you next week
And, almost immediately, he physically cringes and deletes everything: the text, the picture, the thought of sending something like that at all. He clears all the apps active on his phone, and he haphazardly slides it across the counter to be out of reach.
What the fuck is going on with him today? He's all worked up over nothing, and it's making him act all... weird. He's a near-thirty-year old man, what the hell is he doing?
Before the tea feels like it's had enough time to steep, his phone beeps to tell him that it has. Maybe time just moves faster when he's flustered. He takes out the strainer, opening it and tapping it against the side of the compost bin, then dropping it into the sink, and he pulls the teacup closer to him.
And even though there's nobody around, before he takes a sip, he looks over both shoulders again here because, uh... he doesn't know? He thinks a robber has broken in? God forbid he's not aware of that happening if somebody had just come in and ransacked all his belongings.
It's definitely just because he's shy all-of-a-sudden, but he isn't going to be the one to admit that.
As he takes his first sip of his tea, he finds himself smiling faintly at the taste. It's become familiar, as absurd as that sounds, and regardless of how much of a mess today way, this is still a nice way for him to end his evening before having to turn in and get showered and ready for tomorrow. The citrine eventually calms his nerves, and he carries the cup with him to the couch as he watches a rerunning episode of some random cop show that pisses him off.
And as he watches the courthouse drama unfold and tips the cup all the way up to find it empty, the thought strikes him as harshly as the gavel does wood—that even without any meddling or orchestration by anyone other than the universe, he was able to see you on this particular Friday.
And that realization is kinda... nice.
Yeah, nice. It's nice that the one good thing he's looked forward to for the last, like, five months still hasn't really changed, and that he can keep that little bit of nicety to himself to enjoy.
...
God, he's going to be so fucking nervous when he sees you next week.

The air was warm, the kind that made you feel sticky and uncomfortable. The rain pouring down provided no comfort. It soaked everything in its path and added to the heat that soaked into the bustling city. Puddles reflected the neon signs, the colours dancing so elegantly adding sparkle to a dirty city.
It was night, but the mixture of the lights and adverts made it unnoticeable. The city was always moving and never slept. There was a permanent buzz in the air. The city was always alive, even if it was wounded by the people abusing it.
Bots floated and provided a cover for a dead body that lay cast aside on the metal floor. Blood leaked from the remains and mixed with the forming puddles. The person's soulless eyes gazed up at the cover with their hair soaked and matted.
Levi remembered this night all too well, but not because this body was the start of a serial killer in the city. He remembered this night more than any other night because it was when he first laid his eyes on the sensual and alluring woman that was you.
He'd gotten out of his car into the pouring rain to help assess the scene. He was informed by the cops that a woman had witnessed something and was of interest. Levi followed the cop's directions to his witness and found you.
You stood in the pouring rain with your head back with a soft smile as you revelled in the warm rain on your skin. Your hair was swept back and cascaded down your back and over your shoulders. Your arms were folded against your body as you held yourself. A deep red dress clung to your divine body and accentuated your body, it was short on your thighs and low on your chest. Your left leg was a cybernetic one and matched Levi's two fingers and lower left leg, it was a divine black with red little lights flashing to your beating heart.
Levi felt a tingle in his fingertips that shot to his heart. He'd never felt such a strong attraction to anyone before, yet the moment he locked eyes with you that fateful day he had fallen hard for you. His cheeks had burned bright red when you turned your head and looked him dead in the eyes and smirked.
Levi felt like he'd been shot in the heart when you smiled and gazed at him. You had the most dazzling eyes he'd ever seen and the most alluring smile. He was weak and desperate for you. He desired you. He was curious about the woman you were. You had a hold of him by a small look. You were a mystery he wanted to solve.
He'd approached you with caution and knew he needed to ask you about the body, but his first question had nothing to do with his job. He was just curious about you as a person and as a woman. He wanted to know everything he could about you. You were a curious thing to him.
He pushed his wet hair back and gulped a little. He licked his lips and tried to speak, but his voice got caught when you turned to him fully and pushed your breasts up with your arms. He shook his head and cleared his throat.
"May I ask you something?"
You smirked a little and popped your hip to the side. "Isn't that what detectives are supposed to do?"
A blush engulfed his cheeks. "I was trying to be polite." Levi held his breath when you sauntered over to him, your divine hips swaying as you moved. Your scent wrapped its loving arms around him even though it was raining heavily and there were puddles of blood. Your intoxicating scent dominated. "Ma'am?"
You reached for Levi's belt and smiled at him. You hummed a laugh as he grunted. "It's big."
A shiver of pleasure ran through Levi. "S-Sorry?"
You lifted up his badge. "Your badge." You smirked at him. "It's big." You looked at the projected badge and hummed. "Detective Levi Ackerman." You flicked your gaze to Levi and gave your name. "You here to interview me?"
He grabbed his badge, but you held on. He felt electricity shoot through him when you rubbed your finger over his hand. "I am."
You smiled a little. "What do you wanna know?"
"Why are you stood in the rain?"
You tilted your head back and moaned making Levi shiver. He wanted to hear more. He wanted to be the only one who made you moan. He took a moment to look at you more and blushed a little at how beautiful you were.
You released a long sigh. "I think people should take a moment to themselves and enjoy the feeling of the rain on their skin." You eyed Levi. "Life is so short and fleeting. So, why not?"
Levi clenched his jaw as he felt his heart throb. He blushed as he began to worry if his heart was beating so loud you'd hear it. He marvelled at your fascinating view of the world. He nodded in agreement as he tuned into the rain hitting his skin.
Levi smiled softly. "It is nice, but it's messy."
"Nothing wrong with a bit of mess." You reached over and ran your hand on Levi's left arm causing his communicator to light up. His skin tingled at your delicate touch and the heat of your body. "I'm ready to talk." You squeezed his arm. "You should take notes."
He lost track of time as he stood with you in the warm rain. He melted when you laughed at his jokes and playfully pushed him. He felt his heart flip in his chest when you bit your lip, smiled and moved your body to show you were interested in him. Levi had read people all his life and knew you were falling for him like he'd fallen for you.
Levi didn't hesitate a moment when you asked for a ride. He helped you into his car and flew up to join the sky highway. He kept glancing over at you as you pushed your chest out and shifted your legs. He had enjoyed how his car smelt like you for days after this trip.
He pulled up to a bar you said you owned and felt his heart sting when you got out. He felt a bubble of excitement when you asked for him to open the window. He adored how cute you looked when you leaned in the window and smiled so sweetly. He blushed at the question you asked that day, but he was glad you asked because it set you both down a wonderful path.
You pushed your chest out a little. "So, aren't you going to give me your number? I would like to call you."
He had felt like a fool when he fumbled around and dropped his ID card. He blushed when he picked it from the floor of his car and handed it over to you. He gulped when your fingers lingered on him before you took the card from him. His eyes sparkled when you activated the ID card causing his name and number to light up for you.
You smiled before pushing the car down your cleavage. "I'll be in touch."
Levi didn't have to wait long before you called him. Only a few days went by and you were talking to him about the case at first before you got lost in him. He'd adored how you both talked for hours on end. For days you would talk and flirt over the phone. He made you laugh and opened up to you about his life, just as you did the same and poured your heart out.
Soon he started visiting you at your bar, where you informed him of your real job which was as a dealer in information. You'd gain information and trade it for more. You were the person to go to for anything at all. You knew so much about the city and its people. You never once charged Levi for your information. You gave everything to him for free and he was forever grateful to you.
Levi remembered the day he met two very important people in your life, who soon became important to him. You had a right-hand man and a spy. Kat was very good at getting people to talk and listening to people. She was often behind the bar chatting to men and filling them with booze so she could learn all their dirty secrets.
Erwin had come with Levi to the bar one day and met Kat, he was smitten. The two fumbled around each other at first, but soon they were addicted to each other. It took a push from you for Erwin to make his move and soon Kat and Erwin were inseparable and passionate.
Alyssa was your spy. She would infiltrate people's homes and gangs by using a ruse, such as bringing in very rare plants and maintaining them. Natural plants weren't a thing anymore unless it was a plant farm to help the environment, but Alyssa sold plants and maintained them for many rich people which helped her spy. She was also incredibly agile and able to sneak into places without being seen.
Levi wasn't sure what happened, but all he knew is one day Alyssa had raced passed his partner in the force Mike. Mike had raced after Alyssa and enjoyed the chase. Soon the two of them were dating and the two of them were around Hange most of the time.
Levi enjoyed watching people blossom together, but his main focus was always on you. He adored how you'd rush over to him from around the bar and lean on his table. You always had your legs kicking in the air, your eyes sparkling with curiosity and your hair lightly fluffed. He could see in the way you looked at him how you adored him so much and yet he was a coward. Levi had no clue how to ask you out, which seems all so silly now to him.
Things changed when one day you appeared outside his apartment. You knew where he lived because he'd told you before in a call. He was so happy to see you, but you were crying and shaking before him with rainwater soaking you.
He'd pulled you inside his home and ushered you to his bathroom. He was so scared of what had happened to you. When you left the shower dressed in just his shirt and shorts with wet hair, he felt so many urges inside him. He moved you to his sofa and wrapped you up warm. This was the day that started the troubled part of your life, but it was the point where you and he acted on your feelings.
He remembered how broken he felt when you cried a little and told him about how scared you were. The killer knew about you and how you were a witness. This killer had become a stalker and you feared for your life and your friends. You came to Levi because you knew he'd keep you safe.
Levi reached over and caressed your warm cheek. "I swear to you. I won't let anyone hurt you or your friends."
You shifted closer to him as if you were attracted to his warmth. "That's why I came to you. I knew you would, but I also worry about you."
"Me?"
You nodded as you blushed a little and were shy with him. "He knows about you."
Levi's brow raised as curiosity consumed him. "That I'm a detective?"
You reached over and squeezed his thigh making a jolt of pleasure go through him. "Of course, he knows that. I mean, you're at risk too from his wrath. You're probably the most at risk."
He was so confused back then, but it all made sense now. It was clear in the way you looked up at him through your lashes, how you angled your body towards him, and how you pushed your chest out and mewled a little.
You lifted your head a little. "He knows how I feel about you."
"How you feel? I don't..."
He was in shock when your soft warm lips pressed against his own. His brain stopped functioning in the moment, but then it booted up when you started retreating from him. He grabbed you and pulled you back to him as his lips pressed against yours. He kissed you back with all the passion and love in his heart.
You both kissed over and over that night. It soon became a night Levi would never forget. The kisses turned heated, clothes were slowly removed and he spent hours worshipping your body and making you fill his apartment with your delicious moans. He had adored every single moment and he has since when you both become one.
He had held you against him on the sofa as the world passed by outside. You both exchanged words of love and affection. You confessed everything to each other and marked that night as the best in your lives, the night you both became a couple.
It became impossible to leave your side after that. He was always with you showering you in love. You too surprised him with your returning love and gifts. You gave Levi the world and it made him breathless. He gave you everything he possibly could. He now lived for you and always will.
Things were perfect for a while until the killer became worse with his stalking. He left you 'offerings' of his love and dedication. You were a strong woman, but there was one that broke you emotionally that Levi never wanted to remember.
When the day came, he protected you from the stalker. He stopped them from attacking you and saved your life. Levi still regrets to this day how he didn't help you sooner. Though you fought back so fiercely, you were left with a scar on your beautiful body. Levi would kiss that scar over and over to remind you that he loved every inch of you, every mark, scar dip and dent. You were and are his goddess.
Levi gave you a squeeze as he held you in the bathtub. His mind was racing with all the memories of your past flickering through his head. He smiled with his lips against the side of your head. He placed a loving kiss against you before looking down at your wet body and admiring the droplets trickling down.
You hummed and shifted in Levi's arms as he lightly caressed your stomach. He took your left hand and admired the engagement ring you wore. He smiled lovingly as he counted down the days he'd make you his wife. Erwin had beaten him with the wife race and baby race. Erwin and Kat were happily married with a sweet baby called Lilly. Levi wanted to be the first, but you'd both been delayed in your path of love. He just wanted to beat Mike and Alyssa.
Levi kissed your ear before whispering your name to you. "I love you."
You hummed a little laugh that Levi adored so much. "I love you too, Levi." You turned your head and gazed at him with those dazzling eyes he loved looking into. "I love you so much."
Levi pressed his hot lips against yours. He wrapped his arms tightly around you as he squeezed you so lovingly. "I'll never let you go. You are my life."
You smiled at him as you tapped your forehead against his. "You're mine too. I don't ever want to lose you. Hold me tightly, Levi."
"I will. I promise. My darling, my everything."

Lollipops
Post-War: Levi Ackerman x Reader
wc: 4.3k
warnings: SPOILERS. im so serious guys. SPOILERS. if you havent watched/read to the FINALE, do not progress. you've been warned. also theres a little tiny bit of gore.
a/n: this is self-defense writing to protect my sanity after the last ep. im so not okay with it being over. also requests are open, i'll write anything! also, this is written in flashbacks. but never fear, the flashbacks are separated from the present by dividers, so you'll know when it switches.
“You two are like a fairytale couple,” a young girl giggles, hugging a pink-covered book to her chest. “Like a damsel and her prince.”
You smile, pulling a lollipop out of your box — and then another, handing them to her. “Take two for sweet-talking me. But remember that true love isn’t perfect by any means.”
She grins, nods, and takes her candy, sprinting off into an old woman’s arms. You sigh softly, looking up to see that the line of children coming to receive candy from Paridian heroes is momentarily empty.
“Not perfect, huh?” Levi asks from beside you, shifting in his chair.
You roll your eyes, gently flicking the side of his head. You crouch down to be on his level. “You’re saying that we had a fairytale romance? That you swept me off my feet and carried me away from danger?”
“Yes. I would. Now get your ass up, I don’t need you to get down for me,” he scowls, his eyes flicking over your kneeling form.
“I would get down on my knees for you anyti—”
“Up.”
You grin, but listen to him and stand up, picking up your box once more. “Fairytale, huh? So what are you, the savior?”
“I’d say it’s even. Although, I remember saving your ass much more often than you saved mine.”
You scoff, putting your hands on your hips. “Name a time!”
“Get your ass up, scout!”
You groan, shoving yourself up onto your elbows. “Just a sec,” you manage between heavy breaths, coughing and coughing.
Hoofbeats approach and you whimper, knowing that if that’s the captain you think it is, you’re about to get the beating of a lifetime.
“Why, exactly, are you laying in the dust?” Captain Levi Ackerman asks, tone cold and voice sharp as a knife. “You’re a transfer, not a cadet. From the MP’s, even. I expected better.”
“I’m recovering from an injury, Captain,” you wheeze out, pressing a hand to your side and shoving yourself up onto your knees. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience.”
“You’d better be. Now, up. On your feet, or be left behind.”
You pull one foot under you, then the other, and nearly collapse. His arm shoots out to grab your bicep, effectively keeping you up as your side screams in protest, ribs aching and tears springing to your eyes.
“What kind of an injury?” he asks, his grip tightening. “Why on earth would you switch to the Survey Corps while injured?”
“Ribs,” you hiss, gripping your side. The doctors have said that nearly all your ribs on your right side are either bruised, fractured, or completely broken. “And I had no choice. I had to leave.”
He narrows his eyes, but slowly releases you, making sure you’re not going to fall over the second he lets go. “You’re in no condition to be training, and I don’t need you getting worse. I have no interest in crippled soldiers. Go inside and get yourself assigned to kitchen duty for the next two weeks, on Ackerman’s orders.”
Your eyes slowly shift up from the ground to him, and you get your first good look at him.
And holy shit, the rumors of Humanity’s Strongest did not mention how mouth-wateringly attractive he is.
You give the dumbest nod you’ve ever given and turn on your heel. You hobble your way inside, and then immediately lean against a cold, stone wall, repeating to yourself in your head over and over again:
We are not falling for a captain.
We are not falling for a captain.
You open and close your mouth, then shrug. “Okay, but of course you were going to save my ass a lot while I was training. I’m sure it got better once I was a captain.”
“Did it, though?”
You elbow him, scowling. A smirk dances on his lips.
A woman grinning ear-to-ear starts your way, and you narrow your eyes. “She’s too old for candy.”
“Reporter,” Levi grumbles, looking down into his box, as if not making eye contact will stop her from approaching.
“Hi!” She shouts, giving a big wave. “I was hoping to ask you two a quick few questions, while you’re not too busy.”
“We’re quite busy,” Levi drones.
“Ah! I had heard about that grumpy attitude!” The reporter laughs, then looks at you. “And you must be his sunshine!”
You scratch the back of your neck, shrugging. “Something like that.”
The reporter whips out a pen and paper. “Now, all sources say that tog two have been married for quite some time, but nothing ever tells me when you two met, or how! Do tell.”
“We met in the service,” you start, rubbing your chin. “I had just transferred to the military police, so I was starting fresh in the Survey Corps.”
She quirks a brow. “Why did you transfer?”
The air simply won’t come to your lungs. You can’t breathe. The night sky doesn’t help, the fresh cool air is only suffocating you more.
You drop to the grass in the courtyard, one hand on your healing side and the other around your throat. Tears pour down your face, and you cough, and cough, and cough, and gasp.
It was just a nightmare, you tell yourself, but it doesn’t help. You can still remember what really happened, his hand around your neck, boot in your side, the bruises along each ridge of your spine from being tossed into a wall.
Your ribs may have been almost fully healed now, after two months being a Scout, but you still can feel each kick he gave you just for telling him no.
“Breathe.”
You sputter, looking up to see Captain Levi kneeling in front of you. He grips your jaw, tilting your head up to look at him.
“Breathe, come on. Take a deep breath.”
You try, you really do, but you only end up sobbing harder. Your hands clench the grass.
He sighs heavily, scooting over to your side and awkwardly patting your back. “Breathe.”
You manage to slow your breathing, and take a few good deep breaths. Then you immediately stumble to your feet. “…Sorry. I’ll head back now.”
His hand is around your wrist before you can even register that he’s gotten up. “Why are you out here so late, crying in the damn courtyard?”
“It’s nothing. Just a bad dream, you murmur, tugging your hand away from him and heading back inside.
You feel assessing eyes on your back as you walk, and you can’t help but look down at your hand, that hand that you wore a ring on for a year and a half.
You’ve fallen silent, chewing your lip and looking off to the side. The reporter tilts her head, raising a brow.
“She just needed a fresh start,” Levi answers for you, placing a hand on your hip for reassurance. “And that’s what she got.”
She accepts that answer, writing down the words. “Now, how did you two end up together? Was it live at first sight?”
Levi scoffs. “Far from it.”
You glare at him. “Well, I liked you.”
“No, you hated me. You just wanted to fuck.”
“Thank you, Hange,” you grin, folding up the card again and tucking it back into the envelope, which reads ‘Congrats, new Captain!’. “I really appreciate it.”
A year in the Survey Corps flew by fast, and you had shown immense skill in the craft, therefore earning the title of Captain of your very own squad.
But your skills weren’t the only thing that had developed. You and Levi tolerated each other now, even if he thought you were loud and chaotic and you thought he was grumpy and sad, like a lonely old man.
And yet, you were drawn to him. He was handsome, and every once in a while you’d say something that would make his mouth tilt up, and… that mouth. It would be the death of you.
Hange heads out, leaving you alone in your room for the first time in hours. Everybody had been in and out, offering congratulations and words of advice.
You sink back onto your bed, yawning. It’s been a long day, and now you just want to sleep—
But a knocking comes on your door, and in walks Levi.
“I could have been naked,” you grin as he strides over, dumping a pile of paperwork on your desk.
“Captains have more paperwork than everybody else. I’ve been assigned to show you how to fill it out.”
“I bet you were hoping I was naked” you tease, but get up anyway, running a hand down your face as you stand next to him.
“You’re insufferable.”
“You’re boring.”
“Boring? Really?”
“Yeah.”
There is a short silence, with Levi sorting through the papers. And suddenly, you are very aware of the fact that you are in your bedroom, alone, with Levi Ackerman.
And apparently he’s aware of it too, because he gives you a look.
And then you jump on him.
The reporter laughs and scratches a few things down on her pad of paper, her eyes crinkling around the edges. “And what year was this?”
“We met in 846, and then started seeing each other romantically in 847,” you explain. You open a lollipop and stick it in your mouth.
The reporter only stares at you, a brow lifted and eyes narrowed.
“Eleven years ago,” Levi says, and then she nods and writes it down.
“What—”
“Different years,” Levi murmurs, shaking his head. “They’re in the damn 1900’s, remember.”
You flush, blood rushing to your ears and cheeks. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been with the rest of the world, you always forget that years are different and you can take a plane somewhere and getting a papercut doesn’t mean you might die of sepsis.
For you, it’s still 858.
“Did you two personally know Eren Jaeger?”
You crouch by the bars, tilting your head as you examine him. Just a child. Skinny. He couldn’t hurt a fly.
“This is the titan child?” You ask, squinting. “He’s, what, fifteen?”
“Yes. Please step back,” Levi says. “You don’t need to be that close.”
“He’s like a fleck of dirt in a crop field. I need to be this close to see him. Are you sure he really—“
The chains on his arms rattle, and you skitter back, slamming into the wall beside Levi.
“Careful,” he scowls, brushing dirt off of your shoulder.
“What… happened?” The boy asks, rubbing his eyes.
Erwin launches into a full explanation, and by the time he’s done the boy looks completely lost.
“You’re… the commander of the Survey Corps,” he looks at Erwin, “…And Captain Levi, and Captain {Y/N}… where am I?”
“A dungeon—”
Erwin keeps speaking, but a thump near the staircase catches your attention. You stride off, past the MP guards, and peek around the corner.
There, struggling against a guard, is the young girl that you’ve been told is Mikasa.
You scowl, shutting the door behind yourself and storming up to her.
“Calm down,” you whisper, taking both her wrists in one hand and pushing her up against a wall. “Do you realize what you’re risking here?”
“You don’t understand, I need to see him—”
“Shut up. You’re risking his freedom by coming this close. Go back upstairs.”
She glares at you, damn near baring her teeth. But you hold firm, and she slowly nods.
“Good, now go.”
You release her, and with one final glance over her shoulder, she trudges up the stairs.
You run a hand through your hair, thinking to yourself: these new scouts are going to be an issue, aren’t they?
“Yes,” you say, nodding. “We knew all of the kids.”
“All of them?” she asks, furiously scratching down your words.
“We were both captains when Eren’s year entered the corps — we trained them. Of course we knew them all.”
“On my squad,” you read off of your paper, speaking to the large crowd in front of you — all the scouts that will be on the next expedition. “…I am pulling in an extra scout. Mikasa Ackerman will join me in the center ranks.”
Whispers run through the crowd, and you step off of the stage, taking your spot next to Levi in the captains line. Erwin picks up a speech, talking about the squad formations.
A tap on your shoulder makes you turn, and your eyes widen as you’re met with your favorite chaos trio: Jean, Sasha, and Connie.
“Get into your formation,” you hiss.
“But, here’s the thing,” Jean whispers. “I’ve been really great during training. What do I have to do to get on your squad?”
“Jean!” you narrow your eyes. “You are not getting on my squad.”
“I would bring you food every day,” Sasha pleads, putting her hands out in a prayer position. “Please! We’d be the best squad ever.”
You actually pause to consider that for the food, but Levi stomps on your foot. “Ow— Uhm, no. Now return to formation or I’ll bump you down a squad.”
They skitter off, moving through the crowd. You just hope that they’ll go to the right place this time.
You sigh, facing forward again. You’ve already heard everything that Erwin has to say, so this is all repeat to you.
You brush your hand against Levi’s, and his pinky touches yours. You lock them together, resisting the urge to just lean into his warmth.
Pinkies locked, you wait out the rest of the assembly.
“Would you say you were close with any of them?”
Levi shrugs. “They respected me. They loved her.”
“Oh, they loved you too,” you grin, patting his shoulder. “Loved you enough for Historia to smack you the second she was legally allowed to.”
“Have there been any hardships?” The reporter cuts in.
You pause. Levi pauses.
“Of course,” he murmurs, voice softer now. He brushes his fingertips against your thigh.
As soon as you make it in through the gate, Levi is at your side, pulling his horse up next to yours.
“Let me look,” he murmurs, beckoning with his hand.
You shake your head, cradling your messily bandaged hand to your chest. “No.”
“{Y/N}. Let me look,” his voice is more stern now.
You know the damage. You found a cloaked figure up high in the trees, you went for the attack, and they were faster than you. It was a clean cut. Your index and middle fingers are gone, as well as a chunk of your thumb.
Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
“I can’t take it off ‘till I reach the medics,” you whisper back, turning away from him. “I’ll see you later, okay?”
But he doesn’t leave. He stays by your side, silently. He rides with you all the way to the scout headquarters, silently. He walks with you to the medics, without a single word.
The medics take one look at you, and, having heard that you were coming in, usher you into a private room.
There are three medics with you, which means they consider your injury a serious one.
The lead medic closes the door, and then turns to you with a pitiful smile. “Let’s take a look, alright captain?”
You cradle your hand closer to your chest. You feel like a child, not wanting to accept what’s happened. But it’s… your hand… this is forever.
Levi gently touches your arm. “You don’t have to look.”
You can’t remember the last time Levi was so soft with you. You’ve been with him for years by now, but he’s just not a soft person.
Nevertheless, he pulls your face against his shoulder, stroking your hair. He carefully pulls your wrapped hand away from you, holding it out for the medics.
You feel it immediately when they start pulling the bandages off, and you bury your face into Levi’s shirt, whimpering.
“You’re alright. They’ve almost got it off,” he murmurs, holding your face against his chest.
The wrapping falls away, and there’s a soft gasp from one of the medics, followed by Levi stiffening.
“Is it bad?” you moan, crying out as someone prods something painful.
“Do you want me to lie?”
“No.”
“It’s not good. But it’s a clean cut, so they’re going to clean it and stitch it up for you. You’ll be fine.”
You fist his shirt. “…Please don’t go.”
He pulls you a little closer. “I won’t. I won’t leave your side.”
The next thing you know, they’ve stuck your hand in alcohol, and you’re screaming.
You tuck your half-hand into your pocket, out of the reporter’s watchful gaze.
“But you two are married, correct?”
Levi nods. “Yes.”
“When were you married?”
You look to Levi, smiling softly. “Well, twice. Once in Paradis, and they don’t acknowledge Paridian marriage licenses here, so we did it all over again a couple years ago.”
“When was the first time?”
Your hand has become a focus for you.
Just as you lay in bed now, holding your two and a half fingers above your head. The stitches have been taken out, leaving you with pinky and ring fingers, two little nubs cut below the first knuckle, and half of a thumb. It’s still healing, but this is pretty much what your hand will look like. Forever. Till the day you finally croak.
The door swings open, and you immediately feel Levi’s cold, calculating gaze. “Are you picking at it again?”
“No,” you roll your eyes. “Just looking. Y’know, at least I still have a ring finger.”
“Why does that matter?” He asks. He takes off his jacket and hangs it up, then sits on the bed beside you and starts on his boots.
“So one day I could wear a wedding ring.”
He pauses. You pause, realizing what just came out of your mouth.
He turns to face you, leaving one boot on and the other half off. “You’re interested in marriage.”
Suddenly your face feels hot. “…Yeah.”
“To me?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s really what you want?”
You nod, chewing your lip.
“Then marry me.” His face stays completely blank.
You sit up slowly, eyes wide. “You— you wanna marry me?”
“You already know that I love you. If you want marriage, it’s only logical that—”
You cut him off by tackling him, sending the both of you tumbling off the bed. Levi twists so that he’ll hit the ground and you’re just land on him, but you have no time to ask if he’s okay between all the kisses you’re showering across his face.
He scoffs. “Enough, woman.”
“You wanna be stuck with me!? Really?!” You grin, sitting up to be straddling his waist.
“I guess so.”
You throw your arms over your head, starting to sing to yourself. “You looooove me, you wanna maaaarry me, I’m gettin’ maaaarried,” you snap to your own little beat, dancing on his waist.
You look down at him, beaming, just to find him watching you with soft gray eyes.
“I love you,” he whispers.
The reporter smiles and nods, then looks over her notes. “Well, I just have one more question, and then I’ll leave you two be.”
Levi looks quite ready to be done, so you speak up. “Just make it quick.”
She nods, looking up at you one last time. “Did everyone else know you two were together?”
You sigh, reaching behind you and pulling your hair out of its ponytail. It’s been a long day, and all you want is to refill your ODM fuel for tomorrow and go to bed.
You approach the supply closet, but pause when you hear voices. You peer in, eyes widening at the sight.
Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, Sasha, Reiner, and Bertholdt all crowd around a table, coins in piles. But there are no cards. No game.
“Listen,” Connie says, throwing up his hands. “It’s just gotta be someone in the Survey Corps. There’s no way it’s not!”
“But wouldn’t we know if it was?” Jean adds, rubbing his chin. “There aren’t too many options.”
“Miche?” Mikasa proposes, spinning a coin in her fingers.
“What? No,” Eren scoffs. “Absolutely not. Armin, what do you think?”
Armin lets out a low whistle, shaking his head. “I already lost my money on the bet that Captain {Y/N} would stay single. I thought she was the type to not want or need a man.”
Ah. So they’re betting… on my love life!?
“Well, she’s wearing a ring, that’s for sure…” Sasha rubs her chin. “What if it’s Levi?”
There’s a beat of silence.
Everyone in the room erupts into laughter.
“Ha! Her and Levi? When pigs fly!” Eren laughs, banging his fist on the table.
“You’re such an idiot,” Connie grins, shoving Sasha. “I’d say she’s a lesbian before that!”
You smirk and roll your eyes, walking away from the room. You just know that they’re gonna be knocked off their feet when they find out.
“No, no, it took them quite a while to find out,” you laugh, shaking your head. “They couldn’t have guessed it if they’d put all their little brains together — and believe me, they did.”
“So, how did they find out?”
“Alrighty, Armin,” you sigh, running a hand over your head. “Let’s get this transformation done. The area is cleared for miles, so just give me a few minutes to get out of dodge, and you’ll get the smoke signal to go ahead.”
He nods, chewing his lip.
“Hey,” you pat his shoulder. “You’ve got this.”
With that done, you turn, shooting your grappling hooks into a tree and soaring off into the forest.
After a few minutes, you’re damn near in the safe zone.
Near.
And then the sky lights up like a Christmas tree.
As expected, a massive explosion sounds behind you, and your ears immediately start to ring. More concerning, however, is the shrapnel made of trees and dirt and rocks flying your way.
You shriek, turning forward once more and zipping your way through the trees. Except, you have to hold your left sword in a weird way because of your hand, and then a gush of wind hits you and—
The branch you’re swinging from snaps, and you’re sent tumbling to the ground, unable to right yourself.
The grass gets nearer and nearer, and you fumble with your swords. But you won’t make it. You squeeze your eyes shut tight, and accept your fate—
Until you collide with Levi’s chest, and his arms are around you, and you’re zipping towards the safe zone.
“Holy shit,” you wheeze, coughing on stirred up dust. You grip his shoulders, shaking from all of the adrenaline rushing through you.
You’re back in the group with the others in no time, and Levi immediately puts you on the ground. But you don’t get a hug and a ‘thank god you’re alive.’ No, Levi puts his hands on your shoulders and shakes you.
“Are you crazy?” He hisses, gripping your jaw with one hand. “I’ve told you to hold your swords upside down like I do, so this wouldn’t happen. You almost died, and all because of your idiocy—”
“Levi—”
“No, I don’t want to hear it. You cannot go dying on me, you hear me? I will not lose you.”
You bite your lip, putting a hand on his chest. “Levi…”
“You are such a fucking idiot. I cannot believe I married someone who would risk her own life like that. You need to value yourself, damn it! You cannot leave me here alone—”
You shut him up with a kiss, rooting your hand in his hair. He kisses you back without hesitation, his hands flying to your waist.
“You’re not going to lose me,” you murmur, pulling away. “You saved me. You caught me. And I’m confident that you always will.”
His jaw clenches, a muscle feathering, and he opens his mouth, but a voice from the right interrupts whatever he had planned to say.
“Did I, uh… miss a chapter?” Jean asks.
You look over to find almost all of Eren’s friend group standing there, dumbfounded. Hange sits up in a tree, grinning ear to ear, but they’ve known about you two for years.
You grin, shaking your head. “The money goes to Sasha.”
“AND YOU ALL CALLED ME STUPID!” Sasha shrieks, throwing her hands up in the air.
“That’s all I need,” the reporter nods, and closes her notebook, tucking away her pen. “Nice meeting you two, heroes.”
She leaves with a wink, and just in time, because a little refugee boy has approached, hands behind his back.
You give him a soft smile, kneeling to be on his level. “Would you like a lollipop?”
The boy nods, giving a shy smile.
Levi reaches into his box, holding out a blue lollipop. He gives the child his softest smile, and in that smile you see it all.
You see the man that saved your ass more times than you can count. The man who presses a kiss to your temple when he thinks you’ve fallen asleep. The man who blushes when you run your hands down his chest. The man who doesn’t give anyone that soft smile of his, except for on very rare occasions.
Your man.
The center of your universe.
The boy takes his lollipop, bows at the waist, and then skitters off with a mumbled ‘thank you.’
You watch him go, and then you turn back, met with Levi, holding out a lollipop to you.
You press a kiss to his scarred knuckles and take it, giving him your own soft smile. “I love you.”
“Yeah, you too, brat,” he chuckles, turning back to the box of candy.
And you remember the nights you spent eating sweets he brought back for you from town.
You remember every night with him.
Because Levi is your world. Your one and only.
And he always will be, from now until the end of time.
@jeannineee be proud of me bitch <3

what people dont understand is that the way arin is special is bc he's. just a guy. just a kid who's a ninja fan, that somehow managed to learn spinjitzu entirely by himself. no official training, no nothing bro, just watching his idols do their things and he just. copies them. and he somehow succeeded. he doesn't need any powers, he doesn't need to be a reincarnation of the fsm, he's special just like that
#this is just my opinion ofc you absolutely do not need to agree#but in my pov I dont really enjoy the idea of him having powers#like him learning spinjitzu which is something sacred entirely by himself is enough if they want him to be special#my guy had no master#like look at him go just using his spinjitzu!! It by itself is already his powers#did u not see him spinjitzu that plate in pt2#and whatever that thing was in ep3#he's already special#and is having so much fun#ninjago#ninjago arin#ninjago dragons rising#dragons rising spoilers#levi's ted talks

omg I NEED MORE OF THOSE OMEGA X OMEGA STORIES I REALLY ENJOYED THE OMEGA LEVI X OMEGA MALE READER SHORT STORY WAHHHH
Since, AOT ended, why not.
Warnings: AOT ENDING SPOILERS, MALE READER, OMEGAVERSE, MPREG.
It's been three years since the battle between heaven and earth.
(Name) watched fondly as Gabi and Folco help Levi out of his wheelchair, walking to the part of the garden where Levi harvested tea leaves.
(Name) liked to think of the two as his and Levi's pups, if they could have any, or if the two didn't already have a dam. (Name) sighed, on one hand, omega and omega relationships were rare but they could still have a slightly slim chance of children, the biggest problem was, that Levi hadn't had a heat because of the stress of his upbringing and his life in the scouts was even more stressful, so a proper heat cycle was slim. Meanwhile, (Name) had been on suppressants ever since he had access to the advanced technology, so who knows how damaged both their bodies are.
"Oi did you hear me?".
(Name) laughed, "Sorry, I was lost, in my own thoughts".
Levi hummed, "Gabi and Falco went for the day".
"Did they now".
Levi wrapped his arms around (Name)'s waist, "We have time to ourselves now".
"Oh".
'Oh'.
Levi kissed (Name), deepening the kiss, "Levi... out here?".
Levi purred, grabbing the blanket that was on the back of his wheelchair.
☆
The two omegas stared at the night sky, under the covers, basking in each other's warmth.
(Name) chirped,"They said on the radio that you'll be able to see a meter shower tonight".
"Do... you want a pup?".
(Name) looked at Levi bugged-eyed, "I- I think-". (Name) sat in thought, on one hand, there isn't that much danger left in the world besides humans being humans, on the other hand, a pup represents their love and their survival.
(Name) breathed in deeply, "I think I do".
Levi smiled, "okay... let's try".
☆
The two traveled into town, after a few months of trying and nothing popping up from the both of them, they decided to go to a doctor.
"When's the last time both of you had a natural heat?".
Their silence was telling already, "Well.. I haven't had one since... my younger days... meanwhile Levi hasn't had one".
The doctor hummed, "I'm going to give you two these simulating hormones, a fertility treatment for both of you. Do you guys have an alpha or-".
"No, it's just us" Levi snapped.
"Okay, well, I was going to say take it easy. Let the heat come naturally".
☆
After a two months of trying, four separate heats, finally good news.
(Name) came home from the doctor early, beeming with happiness.
"Levi! I have great news!".
Levi, came to the door, "I do too".
"You go first!".
"No, I wanna hear yours first".
"Levi.... I'm pregnant"
Levi's face paled, "are you sure? A hundred percent?".
(Name) nodded, "Yes, why?".
"Me too".

Come here, sit down. I have something important to tell you. A message that could save both our lives.
You’ll have two kids, Gabi and Falco, by the time you’re a little over forty. Well, no, it’s not like you’re gonna be a parent. At least, not in the sense that you’re probably thinking. But you’ll care for them. A lot more than you’ll ever want to admit. You’ll brew them your best tea, tell them bedtime stories about giants from a foreign land.
Gabi, the girl, she’s hotheaded, and reminds you of that time you saw firecrackers on a Marley festival. She gets angry at the world often, but she’s kind. And smart. And has a heart that has so many broken, empty spaces, she can take everyone else in; no questions asked.
Falco would never hurt a fly. He has this soft, warm gaze in his eyes that never deceives, never hides. They both look after me, us, though they’re just that— two children of war. Gabi carries my wheelchair, now holds the cups the same way we do. Falco tells her to shush whenever his instincts warn him, she’s making me talk too much.
I don’t know, I guess all this was to say: don’t listen to me. Ignore everything that you’ve ever been told. You’re not guilty of any of these wounds. It was never fair of you to take so much ache in such a tiny, fragile frame.
When I talk to myself, I’m not talking to you, did you realize? When I feel this huge pull at my chest, it’s like a part of me is breaking yours apart, as well.
I apologize, Levi.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
It’s understandable, that you run behind closed doors if you hear my footsteps. That my words make you tremble, and you go search for mom under the covers. You’re scared of me. I’m your nightmare. A ghost that paces in the darkness and looms in the corners of your sweet, sweet innocence.
Every punch I received, every slash that left my skin burnt open, it made you bleed. Every time I doubted myself, my own will to fight, I shrunk you. I made you smaller.
I turned into a monster. You search for me in the shadows, in the closet, under the bed. I’m everywhere. I’m all of them. I’m all those who hurt you, when all you needed was a pair of arms to stitch you back together.
I’m worse than the sum of every enemy. Titans, the nobles, the underground thugs who tore you to shreds. They were on the outside. But me, Levi— this pain—, it lives within us. It’s buried so deep, that it stings, and it makes every scrap of us sink to our very core.
I’m sorry. I am. Don’t listen to me, okay? When I talk to myself, every choice that I regret, it’s not about you. It was never about you.
Even so, though, why do I feel this way, then? Why is it that, every time I wanna hurt myself, I can hear you shout? Why is it that, whenever I put pressure on my shoulders, I can see your hands clinging at my sleeves?
I’m here, you’re there. So close, yet so far. And even at that, what I wanted to say is that there’s still hope.
There's still hope for the both of us.
I’m your monster, right? So, if you turn the lights up… remember? I disappear.
I can still recall every last bit you. Tender, naïve, hopeful, happy. So, turn the lights up, you little Levi. I want to look up in the mirror and find you there, looking back at me. I want you to take control. To take over the two of us.
Your voice is softer than mine, it has always been. Your voice can speckle the small, ordinary things in life with threads of marvel. It can create worlds, where days are ever-sunny and the air smells of herbs and tea.
Your voice will bring us home. I’m sure. Your voice will fill it with warmth seeping from its windows. I’ve been a monster too long, little Levi, but you’re still there somewhere. So, scream. Scream as loud as you can. Grow all the huge and all the brave that I could never be, for the sake of us both.
Or be tiny. Be tiny, and precious, and never let this sappy old grump rob you of your wide-eyed gaze.
And don’t believe a word I say.
And do what Gabi and Falco do for me. When I’m too weak to walk, they let me rest my hands on their shoulders. When I’m tired, or grey, or sick, they climb to my bed and tell me stories about kids who fought dragons and saved their loved ones. They’re my adults. They clean my shelves, they comb my hair, they heal this crumpled soul of mine.
You see? Maybe I’m not the adult that you’d wished me to be. I don’t always treat ourselves with kindness. I don’t always forgive ourselves for what we’ve done. So please, please, please, take care of me now. Be my adult, if only for a little while. I’m tired, and grey, and sick. And I need you. I need you like I need Gabi and Falco. I need you like I need mom.
And I’m sorry.
I apologize, Levi.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
But for right now, it’s you who has to show me that there’s still hope in this cruel, yet beautiful world.
That there’s still hope for the both of us.

Shion: Um, well, how about a compromise?
Hange: What kind of compromise?
Shion: We can do something else tonight and then try what’s in your sketch when you’ve healed.
Levi: Hoh? What do you have in mind?
Shion: …
Hange: Oi, Shion, we won’t get anywhere if you just sit there blushing.
Shion: I haven’t given much thought to doing this! It’s difficult to suddenly put into words.
Levi: This hasn’t been on your mind since Hange confessed?
Shion: No, it hasn’t. Does that mean you’ve been thinking about it?
Levi: Yes.
Shion: Well, I feel extra awkward now.
Levi: You shouldn’t. You don’t approach sex the same way we do. Which is fine.
Hange: Shit, that’s right. Shion, tell me if I’m pushing you too hard.
Shion: No! I need you, both of you. I’m… I’m all right with being pushed right now if it’s the two of you.

don’t want to give you false hope, but with the way i’m looking at it rn, chapter 4 of liar, liar will most likely be released somewhere around the 10th-16th of june?
as for start of a new obsession, i’m thinking around the 30th of june? perhaps a little earlier?
i’ve put a little more time in writing liar, liar out because it’s the only one gaining traction atm, and is also the one with the longest number of words for each chapter. that doesn’t mean i’m abandoning soano! still working on it, just a little slower :)
yeah that’s all really. oh! friendly reminder that my username will change in a couple of weeks from ack4rwoman to tojiscrack (i refuse to use tojisbum, lalalala, idc if tojisbum somehow miraculously won by a landslide)!
#well well well#i can see you liars getting excited#you SHOULD be#it’s not my favourite chapter tbh#but it’s still good#i think#like this chapter’s just how they deal with high school so far#freshman year specifically#this chapter is necessary for the next few chapters to make sense#the REAL story is starting soon…#can’t wait#as for soano (start of a new obsession)#added a sprinkle of levis pov#and you get to see how our crazy little mc is doing#being suspended#like the maniac she is#love her to bits lmao#yk what they say#distance makes the heart grow fonder#i think?#i forgot ngl#she actually lowkey forgets levi ngl HAHAHAHA#but he remembers her#he’s actually pissed at her#but it’s okay bc it’s princess levi ✨#this fic is such crack HAHAHA
