Update 13 Dec 2023: Updated 13 Dec 2023 with a Portuguese translation by David Manaia as well as correcting the Level 10 metrics!
A mortician career for your sims! This was requested by Catrillion and was super interesting to research! Your sim can join it via the Hospital rabbithole and is available from Young Adult through to Elder.
If anyone would like to translate this, please feel free! The English strings are included in the download file, just drop me a message here or on MTS!
I used @missy-hissy's career tutorial to make this and a huge thanks to @zoeoe-sims for helping me with some infuriating bugs we finally got sorted out!
Details under the cut!
This career has ten levels and requires you to level Science and the hidden skill Styling, which can be improved by using the Styling Station to do makeovers at the salon. The skill won't show up in the skills panel, but the metric should change and you can track its level through MasterController.
Since there wasn't a strict progression for this job IRL, I've varied it a little bit to encompass all skills a fully qualified mortician and embalmer would need. There's long hours and extra studies included -- it's not an easy job!
There's no opportunities or books to read, but there are uniforms from the Medical career included, which should show up from Level 2. Carpool only shows up at Level 2 onwards, so don't panic if you need to manually send your sim to work.
Please note if you want to use this, you must have Nraas Careers installed for it to show up!
There's two custom tones:
Study Anatomy (increases Science) Practise Styling (increases Styling)
I've put the levels, hours, and pay under here if you'd like to take a look: Level 1 - At the Crossroads - 10:00 until 16:00, M-F, 10 simoleans p/h
Description: "You’ve always been fascinated by death, sneaking into the movie theatre to watch the horror flicks much too young and reading books your mother would have definitely taken away from you. You have a knack for biology and have followed Olive Specter’s SimTube channel since she first started uploading in the middle of the night. With the job market uncertain right now, why not look into becoming a mortician? It can’t be any worse than EverFresh Supermarket…"
Level 2 - Apprentice - 09:00 until 15:00, M-F, 30 simoleans p/h
Description: "After many days of scrolling through job listings and qualifications in the hospital cafe, you’ve finally found the guts to apply for an apprenticeship. It’s not the best paid and you’re still stuck in the classroom, but at least the coursework is interesting. Now just to pass the exams…"
Level 3 - Mortuary Admin Specialist - 09:00 until 17:00, M-F, 40 simoleans p/h
Description: "You’ve passed your course, got that diploma, and swaggered out of that classroom with a spring in your step… only for your first gig to be doing the admin work at the local mortuary. At the moment you’re spending your time booking appointments and sending emails with the occasional aside of cleaning the equipment, but show enough enthusiasm and you’ll soon be moving on up."
Level 4 - Mortuary Technician - 09:00 until 18:00, Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 60 simoleans p/h
Description: "Your first actual job is dressing and caring for the deceased, making sure they’re laid to rest in the coffin of their choosing and that their funeral is exactly what they and their family wanted. It’s delicate, gentle work, making sure death has dignity. Sometimes it’s the living that need you more; you’ll need a calm voice and be a shoulder to cry on for families who have to say goodbye."
Level 5 - Mortuary Technician Team Leader - 09:00 until 18:00, Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 75 simoleans p/h
Description: "You’ve proved to have a light touch with the makeup brush and know the right words to comfort the bereaved, so a promotion is in order and that means working with the parts that make up a human body. Your duties will include weighing organs, taking tissue samples, and reconstructing bodies so they’re ready to be buried. Make sure you study up on identifying diseases in organs if you want that promotion!"
Level 6 - Senior Mortuary Manager - 09:00 until 18:00, Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun, 105 simoleans p/h
Description: "Finally, proper pay! Unfortunately, it more means managing your coworkers than the corpses. You’re allowed to sign off on the higher level decisions and have more responsibility, but you didn’t get into this role to do people management. Maybe there’s another path you can take…"
Level 7 - Trainee Embalmer - 12:00 until 21:00, M-F, 50 simoleans p/h
Description: "Back to the classroom you go! Sort of. You’ve put in an application to train as an embalmer, and are splitting your time between shadowing one of your senior coworkers and attending night school. It’s long and tiring, with late study hours for not much money, but it’ll pay off in the long run (you hope)."
Level 8 - Qualified Embalmer - 09:00 until 16:00, M-F, 200 simoleans p/h
Description: "The graft has paid off, and you’ve got another diploma under your belt (as well as a bit more cash, thank the Watcher). You’ve transferred back to the hospital mortuary but this time to work as an embalmer, washing and taking care of bodies and taking all the steps to make sure they’re preserved with the right chemicals. It’ll require careful technique with not only the embalming fluid and syringes, but also your empathy; you’ll need to make sure the family, as well as their loved one, are well cared for."
Level 9 - Mobile Embalmer - 18:00 until 03:00, Mon/Tue/Fri/Sat/Sun, 220 simoleans p/h
Description: "For some reason, embalming isn’t a sought after job – which means good news for you! Work is dispatching you all across SimNation to provide your services, from vampire attacks in Bridgeport to meteor strikes in Lunar Lakes. You’re spending more time in hotels than at home, and while you’re raking in the money, maybe it’s time you struck out on your own."
Level 10 - Locum Mortuary Technician - 11:00 until 15:00, Mon/Sat/Sun, 500 simoleans p/h
Description: "You’ve had enough of the corpo grind and chucked it in; you’re freelance, baby! As a fully qualified mortuary technician and embalmer, you pick up agency shifts and choose when and where you want to work, on whatever catches your eye. If someone wants to pay you good money to preserve the corpse of Bigfoot for their collection, now you don’t have to turn them down for something more sensible. After all, if you love your job, you don’t work a day in your life!"

day 12/366
spent... 3-4 hours at uni for my subject registration, and in order for me to be able to take all the classes i want and need for this semester so i could end all of my undergraduate classes by november and be able to get my diploma, i still have to wait for awhile for the office of the registrar's feedback on the process my department wants to do to help me with that. it's alright, i've learned to wait patiently during the first semester anyways. what's important is i'm nearing to my end-goal (graduate) !!
while waiting tho, i was able to talk to my clinical instructor and prof for both semesters for 4th yr classes (department head) and i'm really glad and grateful to have such good mentors
my CI gave me tips and cautions for when i start my internship (e.g., if you don't know something, just ask, because it's better to be demerited for being cautious (bc different institutions/hospitals = different standards & protocols) instead of compromising your patient's health and care)
^^ she was also quick to inform me of the first institute i'll be doing my rotation on (bc our rotations consists of adult care, neonatal/pediatrics, mothership and community)
my professor for lectures and research also was quick to say he's very flexible with whatever, because my clinical research 1 would be considered as a "special class" for the sem since what's offered for 2nd semester is clinical research 2
dean, as usual, very helpful. he was the one to settle the discussion on my subjects for the sem and is very willing to talk to office of the registrar's to be able to make things work out for me ♡
overall, it was a productive day despite waiting most of the day:
walked (picked up some fallen flowers while she smelled everything) + fed luna and cleaned her place before i got myself brunch and ready to leave
left together with one of my best friends bc she has her job interview near my first stop
levelled up on my solitaire app while waiting
was able to make it home in time for prayer and worship day 4/7 (traffic was insane, left uni at 430pm and arrived home 710pm)
got stuff printed to aid my review
planned out ideal rough schedule for when i start internship bc i also have solo research and the lectures + luna to take care of, among others
already looked up how to travel from home to my first hospital rotation (there are 2 ways !!)
and so, since i was not able to get coffee within the day, by 9pm i was asleep. woke up at 1130 to eat dinner tho bc havent eaten anything aside from brunch, 2 chocolate bars and a loooooottttt of water (too stubborn to take allergy meds)
also thinking about trying to vlog my process before internship and during and after ?? i kind of want to go through this part of my life where i muscled through but at the same time i feel it would be really hectic

The "Book of Life" Legacy Challenge
I created this challenge myself & I am currently test playing generation 1. I will post the other generations once I finish writing the narratives.
Must play in normal lifespan mode.
For each generation, complete the designated career, skills, and aspirations.
Randomize children and career branches for generations that do not have specifications.
Have a family graveyard; you can either build your own or place one from the gallery to host all your sims tombstones; be sure to continuously "strengthen the connection" of your generation 1's heir.
Make sure you pass down the "Book of Life" book as generation 11 will need it to resurrect the generation 1 heir in order to complete the challenge.
Generation 1 - "The Bookworm"
Since childhood, you have been fascinated with books and really enjoyed reading and writing. You strived to become a best-selling author and to also build your very own private library. But after a near-death experience as a teenager, you became fearful of death and developed paranoia going into adulthood. Upon doing some research, you learn about “The Book of Life'', which is a book that can be used to resurrect the dead. You are then determined to write that book, hopeful that a future generation would use it to resurrect you.
Traits: Bookworm, Loner, Paranoid
Aspiration: Best Selling Author
Career: Writer (Author)
World: Windenburg
Rules:
Master Writer career (Author branch) & Best Selling Author aspiration.
Reach level 10 Writing & level 5 Logic skills.
Obtain the "Fear of Death" trait.
Unlock the “Door of Perception” in order to create a secret doorway into your own private library.
Have only one child (can be a science baby), do not include the other parent in this generation; the relationship between the both of you will also be scarce due to your paranoia.
Write the “Book of Life”, and read it so it will bind to you; then pass it down to the next heir.
Optional tasks:
Create a book club & meet once a week (members must have “Bookworm” trait).
Write & publish a Biography about yourself.
Generation Two - "The Criminal"
Growing up, you were neglected by your own paranoid mother as she spent hours a day in her private library alone; you never met your dad, nor even knew his name or what he looks like. Throughout your childhood, you pretty much had to take care of yourself. In need of money, you turned to the life of crime stealing anything worth valuable to sell. In adulthood, your mother passes away and leaves you a small inheritance of $10,000 and her prize possession, the “Book of Life”.
Traits: Mean, Noncommittal, & Kleptomaniac
Aspiration: Public Enemy
Career: Criminal
World: Oasis Springs
Rules:
Master Criminal career (either branch) & Public Enemy aspiration.
Reach level 10 Mischief & level 6 Handiness (Boss branch) or level 8 Programming (Oracle branch) skills.
Move into a small rundown home; sell stolen items to make extra money to improve your home throughout your sim’s life.
Never stay committed to a relationship & never marry; you can get engaged, but will eventually need to break it off.
Have 3 children with different men/women.
Optional tasks:
Move out as a teenager and drop out of high school.
As a young adult, complete the online course in order to receive your high school diploma.
Generation Three - "The Spy"
Throughout your young adulthood, you traveled the world completing mission after mission after mission; you even collected snow globes as a memory keepsake. Then one night at the bar, you meet your soulmate, fall in love, and get married. You start to realize that your career is just too busy and no longer want to be a high profile agent and instead, would rather have a desk job at the headquarters so you can spend more time at home. But you decide on one final mission, the “Strangerville Mystery” as it includes a huge payout of $100,000 if solved. However, you must keep your career and missions a secret for your own family’s safety!
Traits: Active, Self Assured, & Good
Aspiration: Strangerville Mystery
Career: Secret Agent (Diamond Agent)
World: Strangerville
Rules:
Master Secret Agent career & complete the Strangerville Mystery aspiration (for aspiration, you must wait till adulthood to start it).
Reach level 10 Logic & level 8 Charisma & Fitness skills.
Complete the snow globe collection.
Start off living in a trailer, but once married, move into a home to raise your family.
Build a secret underground bunker that only you can enter.
Optional tasks:
Grow and harvest bizarre fruits.
Propose to a sim with a ring crafted by you.
Generation Four - “The Flower Child”
Growing up in the desert has been a complete blah for you, like “where are all the trees & flowers? As a child, you visited this place called, “Granite Falls” and have fallen in love with the scenery. All you want to do is experience everything nature has to offer.
Traits: Loves Outdoors, Active, Vegetarian
Aspiration: Outdoor Enthusiast
Career: None; earn money by selling herbal potions & hand-made floral bouquets

Optional tasks:
Unlock and maintain the “Frequent Traveller” and “Outdoorsy” lifestyle traits.
Create a hiking club & meet once a week at Granite Falls (members must either have “active” or “loves outdoors” traits.
Generation Five - “The Child of the Ocean”
Traits: Child of the Ocean, Active, Dog Lover
Aspiration: Beach Life
Career: Yoga Instructor
World: Sulani
Rules:
Complete Beach Life aspiration and complete the seashell collection.
Reach level 10 in both Wellness and Fitness skills and reach level 5 in pet training.
Own the same dog your entire young and adult life; you can use “age down” treats.
Volunteer to clean up the local beach once a week.
Marry a mermaid.
Optional tasks:
Befriend a dolphin.
Unlock and maintain the “Health Food Nut” and “Energetic” lifestyle traits.

I'm going to ramble here, I don't like to just add onto the thread with my personal stuff like this but I drafted it in the tags and I'm not done, I'll run out of tag slots at this rate.
As a kid I internalized the idea that school was the most important thing for my future. I took it to heart early on and excelled in school. Well, this is my final semester of college and still do not have many useful skills outside of school.
If you tell kids they'll only thrive if they do perfectly in school--and they believe it--they still won't thrive because they'll focus on that over all else, instead of things like socializing and learning basic adult independence.
Don't get me wrong, it's good to value your studies, not all of that information/experience is useless, etc. But my education has been essentially the sole focus of my life for as long as I can remember, and so far it has not paid off like I thought it would when I was a kid. I don't have much to show for myself other than my academic record.
Like... I know so strikingly little about finances and bills and home maintenance, basic things that an independent person would need to know, right? I didn't have time to learn that stuff when I was in 3 AP classes at once! (and of course, i have forgotten most of the content of those classes so how much did i really gain from sinking so much of my time into them?)
A couple months ago (I think), my dad told me we should get me a credit card, and I said I didn't understand credit cards because weren't they like xyz? And he said actually it's like abc and he explained to me how they worked so I understood. Which is good. But while he was talking I just started crying because I'm twenty-two whole ass years old and I didn't know this. No one ever told me. Years into the part of my life where I might be expected to already be using this knowledge.
It's things like these that convince me that I could never be independent, which is why I never have been. Admittedly, part of my problem is that I can't drive for reasons I can't really fix, but that's solely a me thing and not what I'm talking about. Even if I could drive, I still don't know a lot about getting jobs or getting housing or how any kind of insurance works. If the government or bureaucracy is involved, assume I don't understand it. Hell, I'm not even entirely sure how phone plans work.
I guess my point is that this world is unfathomably complicated and doesn't exactly look out for everyone, and they didn't bother to teach us how to live in it.
If you want us to succeed in this world, patiently teach us how to live in it, instead of dumping us in an algebra class where we'll forget everything within a month.
Even now, I've never sought out a little entry-level part time job or whatever, because being a full-time student I don't have the energy or time to expend on anything else. I even have to put off personal projects and things I enjoy to focus on my classes. Now, at this point, you can pin that on me, because I did technically choose to go to college. But I chose it because I felt I had to: the world had me convinced that I wouldn't get anywhere without a degree. And who planted that idea in my mind...?
I've been a student my whole life. A good student, even. Which is what they want, what they told me to be, right? It's not good for a struggling student to tell them the rest of their life depends on them getting it together. But being smart as a kid didn't make it easier for me. I gave it my all and didn't get much in return. Folks out there have gotten opportunities outside of school that led them to success without needing to try as hard in school as I did.
School is not the be-all end-all that everyone makes it out to be.
And all this is not to mention how much time on the things I'm actually passionate about that I sacrificed in favor of my education. If I cared just a bit less about the distinctions on my high school diploma (who cares about that?!), I could have had more electives in things I really love like choir and art. I gave up that opportunity for reasons that in retrospect just don't hold up, and I'll never get that back.
These days I'm studying art, my passion, and I still have to put off personal projects. There's just enough time in the week to be a student and then recharge from being a student, and not a second longer. No job. Just enough free time hobbies to keep from going insane. That's it.
In four months, I will graduate. It will be the first time in my entire memory that I will not be a student. I don't know who or what I am without school. And it will probably be difficult to find out. Because once I've taken enough time to recover my energy after finals, and to celebrate my graduation, and to work on personal things that have waited months or years for me to have the time for them... after all of that...
I will still have to learn how to be an adult before I get to actually be one.
I think that when we tell teenagers that their lives will be over if they don't have the most perfect possible trajectory through the education system, that this is, perhaps, if I may be bold, not good for them,
#I'm outrageously lucky that my parents support me and it's thanks to them I am in such a position that many of the 'adulting' things that#I mentioned; I don't yet need to worry about. That luck and my parents' kindness do not go unnoticed or unappreciated.#I greatly value my free time and ability to both relax and indulge my interests. I would gladly spend the foreseeable future in 'free time#mode' for as long as they were able to support me. But I know it would only be a matter of time before I start feeling like I need to get a#job in order to not feel worthless.#I don't even dream big. I don't need a capital-C Career in my Chosen Field or a massive salary or to be a star.#But these days even a low-level job that I could tolerate enough for a paycheck and then go home to do the things I like?#even THAT kind of a job seems less and less attainable.#harper babbles#this was half building on OP's point and half vent. sorry about that.#it turns out this world was not built for autistic introvert artists and i may or may not have a lot of feelings about that

How the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care Builds Confidence in New Caregivers
How the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care Builds Confidence in New Caregivers
Starting a career in adult care can be both rewarding and challenging. New caregivers often face uncertainty, whether it’s adapting to the demands of the role or meeting the diverse needs of those in their care. The Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care for England is specifically designed to equip aspiring caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in their roles.
1. Comprehensive Knowledge of Care Principles

3 Key Differences between Healthcare Assistant & Community Support Worker
Community support workers and healthcare assistants are two essential pillars of the Canadian healthcare sector; however, both of these careers have quite distinct characteristics. If you are looking to enroll in one of these two programs, this blog is going to help you make the right decision according to your needs.
Differences in what they do
There are differences in the job duties of community support workers and healthcare assistants. For instance, community support workers help vulnerable people who are usually at risk of getting into social and personal problems. They also help people get enrolled in social welfare programs so that they can be better served by the state-run programs. Some of the main duties of community support workers include:
Drug-related issues in youth and teenagers
Homeless people
Abuse and mental health problems
People in need of emotional support
Trauma-related issues
Refugees dealing with issues
The job-related duties of healthcare assistants are slightly different from those of community support workers. For instance, healthcare assistants or healthcare aides usually provide assistance to people who need help in daily living. Healthcare assistants usually help people in long-term care facilities or people who need help in their homes. They usually help old people or people with disabilities. Some of the main duties of healthcare assistants include:
Therapeutic exercises of patients
Companionship and emotional support
Medication-related duties
Meal preparation and other nutrition related matters
Eating, grooming, dressing, etc.
Personal hygiene
Differences in courses and training
There are some major differences in the training and the courses that they are taught in their diplomas. For instance, take a look and notice that Edison College’s Community Support Worker: Addictions & Mental Health Specialization has a focus on courses related to social sciences such as sociology, psychology, etc. Whereas the same college in its Health Care Assistant Diploma focuses on physiology, anatomy, etc. Despite these core differences, there are some similar courses in both of these two programs, such as standard first aid, CPR level C, interpersonal communication, etc.
Differences in career options
While both community support workers and healthcare assistants can help people with different kinds of needs, they mainly have different career options. For example, community support workers work in women’s shelters, school boards, homeless shelters, community service centers, hospitals, group homes, social service government agencies, correctional facilities, addiction and counseling support facilities, etc. However, healthcare assistants mainly work in long-term care facilities, acute care, assisted living, complex care, adult day care, etc.
After discussing the differences between community support workers and healthcare assistants, let us talk about the larger picture of the healthcare sector in Canada and how it is expected to change in the future. Like all the developed countries, Canada is getting old faster than most countries in the world. In fact, Canada has a larger percentage of a population of 65-year olds or more compared to the United States. North American countries such as Canada and the United States both have an aging population, but they are still behind many European and Asian countries, perhaps due to the higher immigration of young people annually. Most of the top 10 countries with the oldest population in the world are either from Europe or East Asia.
People 65 years of age or older make up over 17.2% of the total Canadian population. Although Canada is currently far behind compared to Japan, world’s oldest country with over 28.2% of its population over the age of 65, it will catch up to Japan by 2046, according to the data compiled by the Government of Canada. The Canadian population is not only getting old, but it is also growing very fast compared to the past. Both of these two factors are directly proportional to the market demand of healthcare workers, including community support workers and healthcare workers.
Conclusion
Whether you choose a career as a community support worker or healthcare assistant, you will not only be earning a respectable living but also serving society at large. The recognition of the services provided by these professions has also increased over the last few years, particularly after the pandemic. As discussed earlier, due to the changing demographics of the country, new job opportunities are also being created, and the trend is expected to continue in the foreseeable future.
Edison College is also offering a Health Care Assistant Program with Co-op; this is a 62-week diploma with 600-hour co-op placement. Practicum-based diplomas usually take more time to complete, but they also prepare the graduates for job-ready skills. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact us today to learn more about any of these programs.

I got tagged by @ilyailyailyes for a getting-to-know-you type meme, i am a big weenie when it comes to tagging people but i love reading these from mutuals so go ahead and consider yourself tagged if you like!
👁👄👁
Anyway
Currently reading: Moby Dick, when i can unearth it from the heap of stuff under my bed. I got a nice hardback version with a little picture on the front and it only cost me a fiver on ebay 🤞🏻
Favourite colour: purple and yellow 💜💛
Last song: Monster, by The Automatic
Last movie: i have absolutely no clue, it's so long since I've been able to sit still long enough to watch one. 😬 Although i did rewatch Kingsman with my mum last year (around Christmas i think?)
Currently working on: level 3 diploma in adult care 😔 i hate how i can only focus on a unit when it's something I'm interested in, like it's such a slog to get through all the legislation-heavy research. It'll probably all be worth it in the end. Maybe.
