Country Singer-Songwriter Roslyn Witter Reflects on a Best Friend’s Abusive Relationship Coming to an End with “Letting Her Go”

Hamilton’s Roslyn Witter has an earnest new country release written about a breakup from an outsider’s point of view entitled “Letting Her Go.” 

Inspired by Witter’s experience watching her best friend struggle through a years-long emotionally abusive relationship, “Letting Her Go” reflects on the relief which came with this partner choosing to end the relationship.

“Although I can’t stand the guy for SO many reasons, I love him for letting her go,” explains Witter. 

The melancholic country ballad is simultaneously angry and hopeful, expressing the complexity of Witter’s emotions towards the ending of her friend’s relationship, one which allowed her friend to meet the amazing guy that she is married to today.

Letting go.

This past week I've thrown out your remains in my life (letter you wrote to me while you were in bootcamp asking me to spend my life w you, your empty cologne bottles, deleted emails, pictures etc. ) Still have a lot to go thru but it'll get done. If someone woulda told me 6 months ago that I'd be doing this today I wouldn't of believed them. But I'm here now & there's no turning back. I'm happy, you're happy, we're good. Thank you.

im gonna go ahead and let her go.....

shes not the person who i started to like a year ago. she changed on me. she gets all angry and she wont tell me why. she tells me nothing is wrong but i can see it in her eyes and through her actions. she says she doesnt care about things when i know she does but she'll just tell me im wrong anyways. in the long run she never felt the way for me like i felt for her but whatever. we like said 2 words to each other today. ultimately the love i had for her just turned into lust. i dont want lust. i want a relationship but she doesnt. its cool i guess. she doesnt care anyway. she'll just move on like i never was there. maybe she never cared about me at all. oh well its all in the past now.....
