My heart aches for my kids. My love & care for them is out of this world, and somewhat beautifully, manic. I ache for their sweet, innocent, loving souls. When I feel their sadness or hopelessness, I become overwhelmingly consumed which quickly ignites a relentless receptor inside my mind. One that affects my whole being.

They deserve to be consumed with only the GOOD and WHOLESOME.

The era—in which we are currently living—is slowly draining our youngsters of their wholesome and good nature. Destroying their futures.

Can’t we all just work together, be kinder than normal, seek what’s really important while we are living and be genuine? It’s free. Why does it seem like a huge investment or some rare gem that’s not been found?

My two sweethearts are all I’ll ever need and want in this life. They are two special gems I’ll forever cherish.

I remember being extremely over weight as a kid and getting picked on all the time by "friends" and older kids. I remember walking home from school every day terrified and thinking to myself that one day, when I was older I was going to show them. There was one time in particular, I was riding home from soccer practice and these high school kids knocked me off my bike by throwing apricots at my head. One connected just right and I went down. When my bike and I hit the ground the chain came off. They didn't stop, they laughed and kept throwing apricots and insults. I struggling to my feet and tried to peddle away but the chain was stuck and the back wheel wouldn't move. So I ran, dragging my bike behind me.

I finally got away with a whole bunch of welts and a crushed spirit. When I got home I was bawling and my dad happened to be standing in the kitchen. I buried myself into his stomach to find some comfort. When I finally calmed down and he got out of me what had actually happened, he looked me right in the eye and said "Derek, one day you are going to be bigger and stronger then a lot of people, it's your responsibility to never to make anyone feel the way you feel right now". I thank God for moments in my life where the seeds of anger and hatred were turned and focused in the right direction, toward compassion and love.

I don't get political on Facebook often but I have been thinking a lot about what happened in Florida last night. It's really easy to see what happened and scream at our politicians and leaders for change but the truth is no law can change the heart. Relationships can though! A close, trusting relationship can change anyone. I hope one day we can all (including myself) stop asking other people to change things and start reaching out to those who are letting their hurt, loneliness and loss turn to anger, fear and resentment. Maybe if we take a minute to stop worrying about our jobs and start worrying about our co-workers and the strangers that shouldn't be strangers, we'll be able to speak truth into someone's life before it turns into what happened last night.

It's no mystery that some people are harder to love then others but those that are the hardest to love are the ones that need it the most! They are also the ones that do the most damage when they don't have it. If we really want to stop hate, we'll all do it together one relationship at a time. Let's focus on developing relationships with people that need a relationship more then anything else. #loverules #letsbethechange #speaktruth #pulseforpulse #rememberpulse
