Making my grand return after 3 weeks of inactivity! (Though I may not be active all the time) Lets talk about TPOT 14!

While I did enjoy this episode a lot, the only downside I have with it is how it was a little too fast paced, I can handle that for BFDIA, but I think knowing how TPOT usually is maybe it was a little offputting, I might need to do a rewatch, but I remember a lot from the episode so im still goin with this post.

So with that said...lets start the ramble session!

So I just want to point out how Pencil is clearly living in the past on how obsessed she is to desprately reform FreeSmart by getting Book and Ice Cube, idk why it just feels funny and weird, you can clearly tell how uncomfortable they were in this and last episode that they want nothing to do with her, whatever the hell she did to them in IDFB (im still having thoughts the 'FreeSmart downfall' is gonna hppen in IDFB with Match being the first to leave the LOL.)

Ill admit the shot of the new TCOA was pretty cool, I like it when they implement 3d things into BFDI

Now... onto the CAS. I freaked out so bad in vc when I saw Pin and Ice Cube safe, ik Taggy and Book was gonna be safe so i didnt worry, but felt like Pin was in danger because she couldnt do much being stuck to Gaty, I thought Icy was gonna be out because she was used just to try and kill the fish monster, she couldnt really do much. But OH MY GOD.

I FUCKING GOT IT RIGHT. FOR A WHILE I HAD A FEELING ERASER AND GATY WAS GONNA BE OUT. Ill be honest Eraser didnt have much going on anymore because of Teardrop being eliminated in TPOT 9, so what else did he have left? I dont know exactly, I really had expected him getting out. Now TREE? I didnt expect him to be in the bottom 2, I thought he would be third to last safe, Pin and Gaty being bottom two because both of them didnt do much but be stabbed and used as a weapon by Robot Flower. As much as I love Gaty, I had a feeling she was gonna be out, and finding out I was right about her and Eraser being out made me insanely shocked. The first time I ever got a TPOT prediction right, though I thought One was gonna immediately snatch them up soon after, but good thing Book took notice of it and try to have and her, alongside Pin try to keep Gaty safe. While the others threw Eraser around basically.

Now im glad we got to see the elimination space again, and seeing the others are trying to escape, Fries and Puffball trying to break what seems to be a barrier? Also I noticed Saw, Nickel and Coiny are not there, ik they arent snatched by One but maybe theyre somewhere?

This genuinely made me sad, I had a really good feeling Two was gonna be upset about Gaty being out, I was definetly aware they couldnt bring themself to send her to the elimination space knowing how close she is to them, I didnt expect them to send her to kitchen, however, seeing the scene of One staring at her makes me feel like Two should had sent her there, Gaty is at risk of being snatched, which is gonna upset them even more or hell, send them into a panic, from what ive seen, they seem to brush off the fact Bell/Bomby/Barf Bag/Needle are missing, but what happens if Gaty disappears? Will they try to keep running the show? Theres a lot of predictions you can go off from.

Glad to see Firey Jr again!

Its funny how DPYA tried to do the same thing from last episode trying to defeat that venus flytrap(?), like sure that would totally work again.

Kind of like how Pin thought doing this again was gonna work in BFDIA 15, LOL.

Closing out my post on the post credits scene, I kind of wonder where the other exitors went. I completely freaked out seeing Match end up in the Pillary Ruins, and this shot here is so cool like.... Knowing last episode we saw Firey and Leafy, are we gonna see more of the BFB contestants again? I wonder what they will have for the plot in future episodes...

And something tells me FreeSmart may reform again, knowing Match is with Ruby and Bubble, and apparently Pencil trying to get Ice Cube and Book back, though its not gonna happen.

The Post-Split Rant, Part 2

a.k.a.: Grown Adult somehow whines about Baby Cartoon for even longer

Part 1

BFB Post-Split is my least favorite season, so I’m gonna keep whinging on about it. As a reminder to all who bother to read this, this is my opinion. It is fine if you disagree with me about something, and you probably will. This is a good thing! Disagreement invites discussion, as long as all involved are willing to discuss.

Ok let’s just get right into it.

BFB 22

THE LEAFY PLUSH IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!!! I don’t have really anything to say about the ad intro other than it’s become a vocal stim for me. Moving on.

Ok, but seriously.

Overall, this is a pretty fun episode! “Court case” doesn’t really sound like it would make for that good of a challenge, but they make it work! A lot of funny moments all around. Jet-flying class is a top tier bit.

That being said, I have two VERY BIG ISSUES with this episode that keep it out of my favorites list. The second one I want to save for later (after BFB 24), so let’s talk about that first one.

This episode, and the resulting elimination segment in the following episode, is the biggest middle finger to Bubble Post-Split ever pulls. She is killed off very early into the challenge, and is not recovered until the next episode. I believe this is directly responsible for her elimination. Leafy gets her moment with Firey (more on that later), Lollipop and Gelatin form their Newbie Alliance, and Teardrop has some cute moments with the typewriter. Every Have Cotter gets to do something intriguing or endearing this episode, except for Bubble. She is, quite literally, written out of the show. It’s not even like she did nothing because she’s a boring character; Bubble is a very interesting character! She was just killed off. (Honestly reminds me of how in season 1 they were pretty obviously trying to get people to vote Ice Cube out near the end, only this time they didn’t have to resort to a contestant vote to do so.)

Like I said, we’ll get to that second issue in a bit.

BFB 23

One last one-two combo on Bubble for really no reason or payoff here. Pretty much nobody remembers she even died last episode, and her elimination is by far one of the most anticlimactic in the entire series. No drum roll or anything, and she barely even gets to say bye. Spongy, the character everyone always seems to point to when people talk about characters being mistreated by the writers (rightfully so imo), had a more impactful elimination.

This episode is just bland. Challenge-wise it’s the exact opposite of BFB 22; the premise for the challenge is really interesting (A jailbreak! That’s exciting!), but they execute it in probably the most boring way possible. One team spends the whole time jumping on boxing gloves, and the other basically has a repeat of BFB 21. The Flower and Purple Face stinger is the best part of the episode.

Just wanted to mention Flower here because I’ll probably forget to do this later; she’s actually written pretty well, by Post-Split standards. I’ve seen people say she wasn’t done well by Post-Split, but I honestly don’t really see it. Post continues her character quite cleanly from Pre-Split; she wants to make friends and make amends for her past behavior, while also still being a bit rude and off-putting. Don’t really see where the issue is here. (As for why she’s like this versus her BFDI/A self, we’ll probably have to wait for IDFB to pick back up.)

BFB 24

Unless something really dumb happens in BFB 28-30 that I’m forgetting (haven’t got there on my rewatch yet), this is probably the worst episode in all of Post-Split, and maybe even the whole series. I know this is the worst episode because it was the only one during my rewatch where I checked how much time was left, saw I still had half the episode to go, and audibly groaned. Nothing happens the entire challenge except for people shitting around and talking, and the overall payoff for most of the contestants not doing the challenges is like one and a half kinda funny jokes. We barely get to see any of them getting the supplies for their parties, or setting them up, or even anything related to the parties until it comes time to judge. The intro/Cake at Stake are so much more engaging than the actual challenge portion. The best part is the Flower and Leafy team-up and even then barely anything happens. Definitely up there with the likes of BFDI 16, BFDIA 1, and BFB 5 for the “real stinker challenge segment” award.

Purple Face becomes a mainstay here, so I guess I’ll comment on him. He’s whatever. He has some good bits, but overall feels like he doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Kinda unnecessary for what Post-Split goes for (or at least tries to go for).

I’ll be completely honest and say I completely forgot about this Gelatin-Teardrop “arc” before this rewatch. It kinda comes out of nowhere too; their moments of “conflict” are not brought up as such (not even any subtle insinuation) until this point. But hey, maybe if they expand on it, Post-Split could really have something intere—aaaaaand it’s over. The same episode this “arc” is established, it gets entirely resolved. Glad that that conflict totally got fleshed out and developed to its full potential. Yup.

Ok, I said we would talk about it after BFB 24, so here we go. My second main reason for making this rant:

I do not like how Post-Split resolved Firey and Leafy’s arc

If you’re gonna disagree with me on anything in this rant, it’ll probably be this.

Let’s start with BFB 22.

First off, bozo, she DID try to talk with you, you just slammed the (soundproof) door in her face before she could get a point across. Ok time to talk about the actual writing.

As a whole, this whole scene comes off as extremely biased towards Firey. Yes, Leafy never apologized for stealing Dream Island, but Firey never apologized for both excluding her for an extremely petty reason and for ignoring her in the years since. This SHOULD have been a mutual make-up between the two. Both apologize for their misdeeds towards the other, and both promise to do better with each other moving forward.

Instead, we this one-sided argument wherein Firey is given much more pity than Leafy by the show. He isn’t even all that remorseful about how he’s treated Leafy, he’s more distraught over potentially being eliminated for stealing the diary. And Leafy, of course, offers to throw the challenge to make sure he isn’t up for elimination. Ok. Sure. Maybe that is in Leafy’s character, to help save Firey from elimination when he’s done something the viewers won’t like; she is the super nice one after all.

Anyway here’s a completely unrelated screenshot from BFB 15. Just putting this here for no particular reason.

Episode ends with them being friends again, and Firey’s only punishment for stealing the diary is to clean the railway. Yippee.

Fast forward to BFB 24: Lollipop snarks in Leafy’s direction, and Leafy tells Firey she’s upset about him not standing up for her, as well as all the time he spent ignoring her. And Firey apologizes! Great!

THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN 2 MORE EPISODES TO GET TO!!! THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN BFB 22 WITH THE REST OF THE MAKE-UP SCENE (aside from the ferris wheel probably)!!!!! I can only imagine the crew realized how one-sided BFB 22 was to Firey, so they decide to shoehorn in this scene into BFB 24 to try and fix it. It doesn’t, and this moment feels so phoned in.

Overall, my main issue with how Post-Split handles this reconciliation is that it feels sloppy. It’s too biased towards one side, and they try and correct for that too little too late. It feels like rather than something they wanted to write, it was something they had to write, as they (correctly) predicted Firey didn’t have much more time in the game left, and if they didn’t do this now they wouldn’t get a chance to later.

Anyway, Firey gets eliminated so no more of this arc for a bit. Let’s move on.

BFB 25

Just want to mention it here, because this episode has a perfect example of it, but Four has definitely changed from Pre to Post-Split. Here Gelatin slaps Four, and instead of Four giving him a face full of zappies like Four most certainly would have in Pre-Split, Four just kinda insults him and then the episode moves on. I won’t really say whether this is a good or a bad change, but I will say I like Four much more in TPOT than in Post-Split.

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP

Meme-slop aside, this is a very whatever episode. More just walking and talking, you know how I feel about these already. I do like both the detail of how Flower’s vomit-repelling sweater was what was causing the vomit-filled totem to run away from her, as well as the fact this detail goes pretty much unspoken. Certainly a nice change of pace from the amount of over-explaining characters tend to do (COUGH COUGH LOLLIPOP COUGH).

The best part of the episode happens near the very end. You know what part I’m talking about.

BFB 26

It’s the Profily episode! I guess I’ll touch on them a bit. They’re a pretty funny joke character! I can’t decide whether it’s funnier for them to have been there all along and nobody noticed, or for them to straight up be lying about everything. This is a good thing. Past that though, they’re just ok. Some good bits here and there, but after this episode they just become another face in BFDI’s minor character menagerie with nothing to really set them apart.

Nothing really to complain about here. Fun episode! Lots of silly things, and nothing stays still for too long. This and BFB 20 really show how good Post-Split could have been, I think. I do prefer 20 a good bit more, but I’d rank this one above 22.

Time to ditch the Pillary Ruins.

BFB 27

The thumbnail is the worst thing about this episode. Just look at it. Why is there just an ugly chartreuse slab on the side. Why are the characters arranged so haphazardly. What even is this composition. It barely even fits with the rest of the Post-Split thumbnails. I hate it.

What gets me is that there was a scrapped thumbnail that looked a lot better! No clue why they switched it.

I do like the desert as a setting more than the Pillary Ruins, which might be an uncommon opinion idk. The ruins always felt too cluttered to be good default backdrops, so going to something simpler is nice.

Yeah I don’t have much to say about this one, another “whatever talky bluh bluh” episode, but this does have some more funny moments than others like it so there’s that. The Flower and TD montage was silly, and it seems like they kinda set Leafy up for elimination solely because they didn’t want her in the top 3 again. Nothing really much else to say.

Actually, come to think of it, this is the last “regular��� challenge before the final all-in-one challenge. Maybe escaping the oven was a callback to BFDI 22’s escaping the volcano? If so, BFDI 22 did it better.

This seems like a good time to stop for now. They’re about to bring back all of the eliminated contestants, so I’ll be touching on both Taco and Firey/Leafy again in the next and final part of this rant. We’ll also get to the third main reason I’m making this rant: BFB 30.

Pillow In Art Pixel Animation! (Piskel)

Sprinkles: Phew Phew, wow, I'm glad I escaped that crazy thing, hmmm anyway, next is Pillow, who was a character recommended to enter BFDI and BFDIA and of course she didn't make it into both seasons, but she did. on BFB for free because everyone except evil leafy entered BFB on good terms, after surviving an elimination she later went to TPOT and is still in the game and waiting for an elimination ceremony that will take place at TPOT 10, on the pillow , at first she looks like she's sleeping, because she's a pillow, right, but in BFB I'm going to tell you a difference in her that in TPOT, in BFB despite liking to kill, she at least had a little understanding with some people who were with serious problems like not letting the fork hit the four and other things, but in TPOT, she has almost no expression at all, which is scary, as as each episode goes on, she kills objects for no reason at all and in these last few episodes then she ends up becoming a psychopath, at least bomby did something against this psychopath, but in my opinion, what I have a very little understanding for her is accepting Fanny's offer to kill Tree to obtain something useful that can help them in the challenge and they did it, well, now let's see if I can get my gif video camera back and my headphones too and let's see if the pillow will get very far from the game!

hiiii i have a question about object shows. i saw that clip u posted a bit ago where the muffin's voice was taken from bbh clips. are all the characters voiced that way where its audio pulled from elsewhere? also can you tell me about the leaf

OKAY so I don't think there are any other object show characters that I can think of who are voiced by clips besides like. TV from BFDI who will either speak in TTS or in cut-up clips from other BFDI episodes. there are several characters I know of who speak in TTS voices tho which is close. but yeah muffin from THANOS is the only character I know of who's actually like that. every object show pretty much has actual voice actors voice the characters?

ANYWAY MY LEAF IS LEAFY FROM BFDI WHO IS THE BEST OBJECT SHOW CHARACTER. ohhh my god I could talk about her forever and ever she thinks she is the nicest person in the world and generally does good deeds like she does try to help people and can be generous! but like. she's got a tier list of niceness with herself at the top. it can feel like she only does nice stuff to LOOK nice. like the second anyone questions her niceness she will instantly get so so so mad because of course she's the nicest, she's at the top of her own niceness chart! she's NICE. ignore all the people she has killed before and all the mean things she's done before because they don't matter because she's nice. she's nice. also. she stole the prize of season one (dream island) from the season one winner (firey) because firey (WHO WAS HER FRIENDDD THEY WERE FRIENDSSS) refused to let her stay on the island with everyone else. because she didn't like the ferris wheel that firey built for her (the ferris wheel killed her) and so she's "a mean person" (WHICH GOES AGAINST HER WHOLE "THE NICE ONE" PERSONA). so she gets pissed and steals dream island and this was the catalyst for SO MUCH like the entire cast tries to publicly execute her for it and like firey saves her at first but then she has to run away from a mob trying to chase her down and kill her so she lives isolated in the wilderness eating nothing but wild berries for like. ages. and whenever she interacts with firey he pretends not to even know her. AND LIKE SHE'S EVENTUALLY ALLOWED BACK INTO NORMAL SOCIETY BY SEASON 4 BUT LIKE SHE'S GOT NO FRIENDS AND NO ONE LIKES HER AND SHE KIND OF JUST MAKES EVERYTHING AWKWARD. like in the beginning of season 4 she makes a team all out of weaker contestants who she thinks need her "help" and then is so awful to them that they all end up rightfully hating her. at one point firey says to her face that he doesn't talk to her anymore because no one likes her anymore. like it would basically be social suicide to be her friend. EVENTUALLY tho her and firey make up eventually and apologize for screwing each other over and it's super sweet and they leave together on a boat to find a new dream island for them to share but she doesn't stop being her awesome toxic self with her insane niceness chart

BFDIA 14 thoughts (spoilers ahoy)

I can't believe they brought back the basketball rain of all things. Oh that thing in the promo image was a bunk bed. Lollipop face time is cool!! Finally TB admitted the cloud was a snowball.

Somehow I thought coiny liked bugs. David rave!! Shout out to yoylestraw, and now we have a host we can understand. I like the use of Pan Flute as a graph, it's what Kevin MacLeod would have wanted.

Shout out to Coiny making Pin get everything back but her limbs! Then why did we have the whole compacting thing anyway, just for false hope? I wish we would at least find out who controls everything in BFDI, probably just the Huangs.

Spongy relaxing on a beach with Bubbly Pop is great, and they're keeping the tradition of him killing hosts. The little instrument guys are back but they're dead, which is too bad. I like that they're still keeping the insulting cell phones from BFDI 25 in play.

I have come to like Barf Bag more after this episode, I just pay more attention to BFDIA. The LOLers being the host is so nice. I didn't like that GB got voted off, she is a favorite of mine, but it does help with TB's arc of learning how to do things on his own. It's funny that she was eliminated by a golf club.

OK I just realized rewatching for the post that Match being satisfied is probably a reference to how she and GB were in the bottom 2 in 5a. And GB screaming exactly how she did in BFDI 1a is just... :) I know it's nostalgia catnip but it works on me!! Kind of reminds me of Homestar Runner somehow

The Crappy Cliff being mentioned on the wheel is silly, I kind of like it. Pan Flute being killed because they spent money on the poster is sad but his manner of death was funny looking at least! And his influence is felt throughout this episode. Kevin MacLeod is a good sport for letting his character be killed, and iconic tracks REAL BFDI fans will remember are heard all over the contest, including the backwards remix of Sunshine as heard in BFDI 1b! I wish he put that on the vinyl record...

I can't believe Eggy hates poly freesmart so much. I kind of like the pair logos, I wish TB said "pair up? okay" like he did in BFDI 17, that would be a cool easter egg to add for longtime fans. This episode makes Tennickel a viable couple, and not just because Nickel was a good substitute for GB.

More Snowball content is always welcome, he is a jerk but a funny jerk at his best (at his worst he's just complaining about armless people). We get to see the Five Islands here, so they probably won't be the prize instead of the farm. Bottle talking about Evil Leafy made me want to start #bottlevil as a semi-joke but also yuri

The constant talk about "island 1" Is probably a BFDI 6 reference, but I'm not sure enough to put it on the wiki. Anything that is BFDI 17 Recommended Characters Auditions Mentioned makes me smile, like the "only ball with lines" bit. The Go Guys are back in HQ! And characters running through the Evil Forest with BFDIA 1 music is so familiar, especially since they are technically running from Evil Leafy, making it the opposite of BFDIA 1!

The FreeSmart SuperCoffin is so unhinged and I love it. Donut saying "NO!" is the only thing people remember about him since he was eliminated early but that was a setup anyway since the other two were CoinPin and all Donut did was bicker with Pencil. Coiny jumping from vine to vine is cool.

I can't believe TB just used his powers for evil. Oh, I get it, Fries fed his fries to Bomby, thats why he has one left. There's a PERC on Dora's island, I wish its pencil-excluding aspect was more relevant, because I want to see more specific recovery centers! There are ones for individual contestants, what about groups like teams or plant objects?

Pillow just learned pillows exist. I thought Needle slapped Book from far away. I like the use of Rocket by Kevin MacLeod with the "snatch" gag, and it's also a stealth pun on the rocket packs. I can't believe they used his track that was in a carykh video about all the recommended characters, though.

I just realized the teddy bears are the same types as the We Bare Bears. I like Teardrop's island, but I can't believe we saw Teardrop's cousins on BFDI before Gelatin's brothers. This may be a reference to an early "recolor camp" called BOTTLE, but that's probably pretty obscure.

ITS THE FREESMART COMEBACK OF THE CENTURY!!! And Ruby wanting to bring back Bubble is so adorable. Especially since I watched BFDIA 2 at the same location a lil more than 12 yrs ago and I was sad that Ruby didn't want Bubble back. #fullcircle

I love Cyborg Pin, by the way. I would rather her stay that way forever than have limbs. Of course they used the Teardrop Family Reunion line. I thought Coffee Drop would be diarrhea because they were near a porta potty and the other characters with many relatives have Poo relatives.

Pencil using helium to make fun of Ruby was so silly, especially since they used to have the same voice actor (Ruby switched Huangs after BFDIA 6, I just looked that up). I love that Bubble can fly if she is inflated enough, and that little Spongy mouth! TB calling Toilet Brush TB is a really good bit.

SPRINGY SHOES MENTIONED!!! Is everything that comes out of Pin replaced by ooze? Also Camera and Teardrop's Pirate Adventure mentioned. The characters trading off short voice clips was so random but I liked it, the Match/Pin rivalry from early BFDI is back! I never knew how much I missed, like, Match until now.

Coiny with the hammer reminded me of "be more careful" right away and I felt vindicated to see it used. Bob-Omb recommended character being a bobber combined with a bomb is underrated. Nickel has that Chip Skylark energy. I love Teardrop's pirate ship.

Puffball Island is awesome! I wish they stayed talking like Puffball. Did Fries just call Puffball brat? Pin's song is the best, by the way. BUBBLE SAYING YOYLECAKE AGAIN~ Bomby censoring Fries's anti-Puffball song is a good one. I wanted to hear Coiny sing.

I have come to like Puffneedle and I always saw a common bond between them with them both having nicknames, I'm the yuri hipster. Pencil is finally respecting Needle! Ruby's tactic to steal a song was very cool. BUT PIN SNAPPING IS EVEN COOLER!!! That scene was so Homestuck but also Fear Garden.

I ended up voting for Ruby to get the prize and Book to be eliminated. I like Book but I like Ruby more, so consider voting Book out VTSing Ruby. Also, I feel Evil Leafy should have been used better. What's the point of having a superpowered evil version of the best character in the show if she doesn't even get to kill someone, or talk to Bubble somehow?

Some of my BFDI AUs

I have a lot but these are my favorites.

Aphotic - One of my favorites, so it's at the top. Humanized and takes place in a realistic world version of Yoyle City, so no recovery. A mysterious, unidentified illness has been going around in Yoyle City, with seemingly no correlation or interaction between new cases. The problem? Everyone who seems to experience the symptoms goes missing around a week after the illness first appears. GB and TB, two world-renowned scientists, start investigating this illness along with Tree, Pen, Fries, Fanny, and Teardrop, as they were close to some of the missing cases. Things turn to utter chaos when Clock shows up at their research facility— three months after his own disappearance.

Shackled Divinity - This is the one with those deity designs I posted. Takes place presumably post-BFB and TPOT. Loser uncovers his buried memories as an ancient deity and goes mad with power, forcing Winner to gather up what other deities they can reach and put a stop to Loser's reign of terror.

Prismatic - Realistic world without recovery, but they're still objects. Tree and Fries are reporters who have picked up on a series of disappearances linked to the Crystalline Caverns, a popular tourist destination right outside of Yoyle City. Supposedly it's due to people wandering into the prohibited parts of the caverns without supervision, but Tree feels that something is off and convinces Fries of it. They go to investigate and get interviews for an article, only to discover that the reflective crystals in the caverns serve as a gateway to a near inescapable labyrinth that they unfortunately get stuck in. Now they must rely on the guidance of Pen and Puffball, two people who have gotten trapped in the caves years before, in order to find a way to escape.

Forager - Competition world, not humanized. It starts off as one of those classic BFB AUs where Four turns evil for no discernible reason and forces the contestants into a death game. One specific set of 8 are put into a heavily forested area far away from everyone else, and Four expects them to go insane and kill each other. So what do they do? Why, they band together and build cabins and farms and live together, of course. The group is Liy, Stapy, Lightning, Marker, Fries, Puffball, Pen, and Remote.

This one is unnamed and more just a flimsy concept I really really like. Humanized. Realistic world. Ish. It involves Pen getting cursed and now he's slowly dying and lots of flowers and Leafy being a malevolent nature deity and Tren and Black Hole being the embodiment of death. It's mostly Tren angst with a supernatural edge. No idea if I'll ever solidify this into an actual AU.

Hm, I sure wonder how many of these include Pen as a major character! Let's see... 4. Out of 5. He's like a lil' shimeji thing in my brain that wanders into my stories that I Cannot keep Out.

why leafpin?

a good question and something i frequently ask myself. not really sure how exactly i latched onto leafy/pin, but it may be influenced by fics made from other authors! i also have a bad track record of latching on to rarepairs so naturally, i was pretty bummed out to see that on ao3 (the only fic site i frequent) is barren in the leafy/pin tag department. i sometimes do writing in my free time and thought "why not? let's see if i can make some material for myself".

okay, but why does your leafpin have that evil spin to it? cringe

OOF. a bit of a hot take but i dooooooooo kind of think that both of them in bfdi/bfb are a tad bit dry. like, where's the spice? i do get appealing to a young audience so it's something that i've kind of shrugged off. after all, fanfiction is fanfiction and the "what if pin and leafy were actually seriously morally grey" thought was too tempting to not use. it also makes writing the fics much more fun because i do love exploring the mental state of characters through good and bad.

any other ships you like?

just a few! i really like tennis ball/golf ball or tb/gb/8ball [the latter one being i kinda get that vibe to write something for since i can't find anything either haha]. apart from those 2 and leafpin, i don't think i have any other ships haha.

i prefer not to, but i am a very tired adult still getting an education (which is why it takes me forever to get anything thrown on the ao3... like i'm dead tired most of the time haha). you can call me jankiey or any variation of that; my main accounts are ao3 and tumblr (so if you see someone stealing my fics ?? please let me know!!). i'm fine with people using any kind of pronouns for me (masc/fem/neutral) so don't worry too much about that. i also think the color blue is pretty rad.

what are your thoughts on fireafy?

Fireafy, regardless if it’s a shipping or a friendship, is a well-done relationship between two kind individuals. I do enjoy them together, platonic or otherwise, but let me explain why.

The narrative of their friendship begins officially in BFDI 20. Prior to this, they’ve had sparse interaction here and there, but none that can account for friendship. 

People criticize their interactions for being too out of the blue and forced in, but I would disagree with that. Firey is a very friendly guy, and Leafy is one of the friendliest (if not the friendliest) contestants, and is easy to hang out with and get to know. It doesn’t seem too out of character for them to interact, especially with each other.

Their friendship starts with a simple game of (well, 73 games of) tic-tac-toe, but from the way they talk with each other in this scene, it’s clear they’ve been interacting for a bit before this. I’m not counting the times they’ve exchanged words in the past episodes, I mean they must have interacted between episodes.

At Leafy’s capturing, Firey shows a lot of concern for her well being. They do a good job of setting them up as two people who care a lot for each other. I, honestly, don’t think Firey has ever cared as much for anyone else before. 

Later in the episode, Firey and Leafy shit talk discuss about David and how weird he is. They bond over that and when Leafy says they should be friends, she cringes at Firey’s assumption that she means to form an alliance. This could mean that she dislikes alliances because of Match, Pencil, and Bubble (which would explain her disgruntled opinion of Pencil’s “clique” in BFB 10). Another reason (and the one that makes the most sense to me) is she doesn’t like alliances because an alliance gives the impression that the people in said alliance are only doing it to get through the competition. Leafy doesn’t want that, and instead wants to form a friendship based on companionship and truly caring for each other.

Throughout the rest of BFDI 20, they both show that they have each other’s backs and are truly caring for one another. Firey, again, shows despair when Leafy’s been killed. (Don’t worry, though, Leafy’s okay!)

Throughout the rest of the episodes leading up to the finale, Leafy and Firey are shown to respect and care for each other.

The finale really ties the relationship between these two together. Firey gave up on the friendship for the role purpose of a misunderstanding on his part when it came to his Ferris Wheel, but when he realized he was wrong (because others yelled at him for it), he went back in time to save Leafy from the death penalty, because spending time with her meant more to him than Dream Island.

Also, Firey rescued Leafy even after everyone tried to convince him she was a dirty traitor, which adds even more emotion to the scene.

This ship, platonic, romantic, or otherwise, is a good one that shows a good example of two kind characters helping each other along and growing close to one another in the process. The relationship is healthy and you can tell they really care for one another. They’re good pals, that’s for sure.

I look like a leef (AN: if u don't know what leaves are get out cuz Leafy is one!) and I have metal points frum being metall and red cat ears. I have flufy pink wings and glissenin pufball eyes. My arms are made of vines and my legs are Yoelberies. 1 day i woke up in the dreem iland hotel. My bed is a huge coin with leaf sheets. Neway (geddit cuz it wuz on screen when the anouncer said it) i ate a caek with leaves in it. It was dream iland outside. I glissened (geddit like ep 21) in the sun. Then i saw fiery. "Hey leafy". Said Firey. I sed "Fiery wanna play inside evileafy?" Fiery said "But you are evil leafy." I turned red and my eyes widened. I was Evilleafy alright. Then i ate Fiey. From Fireys happy cheers it sounded like he was happy. Then he asked to get out. I shot him out of my mout. I then asked fiery "Wanna go to Goim 500?" (AN: Goim 500 is a game by mike and cary go to twins.net for more!) In goim 500 i went into the pink zone. Since i was not pink Pink Facee killd me with her pink ray. It was fun. I played in the portholes and was soon at the bilding. I fell into the partee room where i heard a loud vocie yell "BLOCKY!" Oh my tree (geddit cuz leafs come from treez) it was the real blocka! I wanted to show my friend teardrop (AN: Magicalgirlsuper this is u!)  "Teardrp the real blocky is in goim 500!" TD lerned how to talk after being in the tlc on bifida. So she said "Oh my eye itz (geddit cuz bfidia used to be called ITZ da feirce batle) blocky!" Teredrop went to goim but there was no blocky. But there was Snow Ball. I said "SB do u know were is blocki?" SnowBal spit out "BUT I HAD TO KICK HIM OUT OF MY ALIANCE! HE SAID I AM DUMM!" I felt i was turning into evil leafy as i shot my point at Snowbal in rage. "BRING BACK BLOCKEY" I cried. Teardrop just used her lazor (H*R rox!) on snowball. I had to find block! I asked fiery where blocky was. But Fiery didnt answer. Fire tears floted from his eyes. "No i still like u best fiery!!" I cried. Then we got on the hang glider and flew on out of goimey 500. I sliced a point off with my knief. Leaf gloop (geddit bcuz cake at staek song) oozd frum me. It ran in2 my cak. I ate the cak. My gloop wuz dlicious. Then i remebered "blocky!" i had to fnd him!! Then i thougt maybe snow killed him! I crankd the hprc and tiped BLOCKY but there wuz an erare! It sed blockiy wuz alive. I got on puff ball and lookd from him. I found erase but not Blocky. But I asked Erasey where Blocka wuz. Earaser said "Nowball put him to the TLC!" But hao (II rox!) wood i get in? Teardro cut a door(a) (geddit cuz dora) in the tlc with her lazar. I saw blocky in it. I anounced "We have GOT to kil Snowfall!" Blocky said "Ok! BLOCK ALINCE!" I said "but your not in it! So we wil get Snowbll from Giome 500!" When Bloci found Snowblah Blocky slaped him over. "LET ME BAC IN BLOCK ALIANCE!" shouted Bloky. Snowball said "But u called me dum!" Blocky said "Oh fine your not dumb!" Snowball then let Block into block alliance. "BLOCKY" yelled Blocky wen Flower came in. Shee (geddit cuz ECC said shee and ecc is englishcreamcakes) then yelled Blocky too and pet blocki. Then I went to Fiery. I made an "I vote Pencil shee never got a vote" joke and BloFirey laffed. Fiery said "Leaf wanna go to the drea island hotel?" I said yes and we were in a leaf rom. Fiery then kised me. My puffball wingz envelope him. I didnt burn bcuz of bujet cuts. Then I said "Butdget cuts more likee leafy cuts!" as i slicd in2 myelf and died. It was fun!

Analyse BFDI 25, it's definitely one of my least favorites.

Oh absolutely! And the difference is remarkable, since BFDI 25 is an episode I find myself enjoying quite a bit, but there are some problems I have with it as well.

One of the most notable things about this episode is the return of the eliminated contestants. I really liked seeing everyone here and interacting amongst each other again. One of my favorite parts is seeing who each vote for, as it provides small insight into their character. For example, Match voted for Bubble because she’s her friend and they were in an alliance, and she got slapped in the process. Pencil also was going to vote for Bubble, but refrained from doing so because she was afraid to get slapped. I never realized that she was more cowardly than Match was. Really puts how she acted in BFB into perspective, huh?

The call-backs were also a treat. I enjoyed seeing Pin remember their alliance, as if she promised to always remember. It’s a cute thing, that the friendship between them mattered so much to her. (That is.. of course… until we get to the end.)

This is probably one of my most favorite scenes from the episode. Despite how he appears, Announcer truly cared for the competitors, and was happy to see them succeed. (Remember when he tried to become Firey and Leafy’s friend?) This did make me feel quite sentimental, if I am going to be honest. 

But then comes the part of the episode many people don’t seem to like, and honestly, I can’t blame them. Leafy explains why I dislike this part so much pretty well.

Why Firey didn’t let Leafy in doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. This is, without a doubt, the biggest issue with the episode, because if it weren’t for this scene happening, Leafy wouldn’t have felt the need to steal Dream Island, the others wouldn’t have turned against her, and everyone could have lived happily ever after. Yeah, it wouldn’t have been the best finale, and I could Micheal and Cary were going for a big bang, but this just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

This is the huge plot-hole of the episode. He let everyone else in, even Coiny (who, might I add, was way more rude to him and said worse things than just “let me out of your ferris wheel before I DIE”), but Leafy says one thing (one thing!) and he hates her. Not to mention the amount of times she helped him along the way.

And this was only in the one of the recent challenges. Throughout the series, especially nearing the finale, Leafy has befriended Firey and grew incredibly close to him in doing so. They played tic-tac-toe together, and Firey cared a lot for. The fact that Firey turned against her for something like this is incredibly out of character.

I find myself so frustrated with his sudden change in character. (And, since someone is inevitably going to ask me about this, yes, I am aware he said “-it hurt me deep down inside-” but this isn’t enough of a reason to exclude Leafy. He even let in Flower, who killed him tons of times and refused to share any information or help him along.)

Okay, okay. I get it. You can bring up the arguement that, yes, Firey was hurt deep down by it because he made the Ferris Wheel for Leafy, and she rejected it. That’s true. You’re right. He would be justified in being angry at her. But then he says… this.

Right, because the person who told him “I’ll be happy if either of us wins,” and the one that helped him along, and the one that meant so much to him that he bet his life’s earnings that she would come back was “a mean person”?

And, FYI, he bet his life’s earnings for her the exact same episode where she supposedly hurt him deep down inside. Hm. I’m sensing… what is it? Bad characterization? Yeah, that would be it.

I’m not going to spend anymore time on Firey’s mis-characterization (I’ll most likely make another separate post all about him), because there’s more issues with this episode.

Oh my god you guys are ridiculously stupid.

This is probably the worst scene in the entire show. They all turn against her, and assign her a death penalty for stealing Dream Island. They completely ignore how she was kind and patient with them and helped them throughout the series for so long, just because she did something they didn’t like.

And what’s worse is that Flower, probably the most hated contestant among them (before Leafy took her spot), didn’t get any sort of punishment for her actions. Yes, she got killed in the finale and no one really likes her anymore, but she didn’t get the death penalty.

You could pose the idea that everyone just didn’t expect it from Leafy, and that stealing Dream Island was too big of a “mistake”. Yes, I suppose this is true, but they certainly went quite too far, especially with a death penalty. Now, how would this help? Sure, it would teach everyone to not steal Dream Island ever again, but who would bother? The Announcer went back to his home planet, and, as far as they know, there’s no other game-show host to be seen.

And then we’ve got Firey, who’s done an entire 180 and is trying to find Leafy to apologize. Great.

The worst part of the episode was everyone being incredibly out of character (especially Pin, Golf Ball, and Firey), but the episode isn’t all bad. For a finale, it’s rather choppy, but there are some good points, too.

The scene between Firey and Leafy when they were in the air was incredibly sweet. Firey may have been annoying, but his little speech was very well-said. I loved it, and although it doesn’t make up for Firey’s character issues, it did give the finale a very heart-warming feel..

And now, time for a hot take.

I’ve seen a lot of criticisms against this episode, and one of the biggest is that Leafy was very out of character in the episode. To this I think, no, not at all, as Leafy has always been prone to lash out at those who she didn’t like or those who hurt her. As @treeafypop put in their wonderful Leafy analysis, Leafy has always been rather rude to those she wasn’t a fan of, or those who weren’t useful to her in a particular time.

One example being how she called Flower “evil”, solely because she finds her to be mean. While Flower is mean, and it is right to call her evil, Flower never hurt anyone Leafy was particularly close with. For Leafy to snap because she felt Firey was unjustified in how he acted is entirely in-character. Many people’s view on Leafy is an overly nice, perfect mary sue, but she was always susceptible to sudden anger bouts (also see: her trying to get Ice Cube to not talk to the “back-stabbing Bubble” in episode 19 of BFDI). 

Conclusion: While this was a rockity episode on some levels, this was quite a heart-warming episode to see. We see Firey and Leafy’s relationship become stronger, and there are some neat call-backs and enjoyable moments and scenes. The bad thing is how out of character some of them are. This disrupts the overall flow of the episode, and, while it doesn’t really balance out, it still ends up being an entertaining finale, but they definitely could have done better.
