Mr. Jingle Bells - Leta Blake (Mr. Christmas, book 3)
Synopsis
Opposites attract as frosty business partners become fake boyfriends in this Christmas gay romance!
Playing fake boyfriends starts their sleigh ride into love!
After an emergency forces Ashton Sellers from his apartment, all he wants for Christmas is new lipgloss, zero contact from his abusive family, and a place to stay for the holidays. Cue his business partner begrudgingly taking him in.
Walker’s a fuddy-duddy with no sense of fun, but he does have a safe, warm home with four adorable dogs and delicious food on the table.
If it turns out Walker’s also a secret softy with a tender side and a hot body beneath his endless parade of golf shirts? Great, good, cool. And if Walker wants Ashton to pretend to be his boyfriend for his sister’s Christmas-themed wedding? Awesome, amazing.
Could Walker be the safe haven Ashton missed out on as a child? Could they be falling in love for real?
But when Ashton uncovers a painful mistake in Walker’s past, it hits too close to home. As the jingle bells quiet and the snow settles, will Ashton be able to forgive Walker, or will their relationship be over before it ever truly begins?
Mr. Jingle Bells is a gay Christmas story by Leta Blake featuring forced proximity, opposites attract, fake dating, office romance, steamy scenes, and a taffy-sweet happy ending. It’s set in the Home for the Holidays universe, which began with Mr. Frosty Pants, but can be read as a standalone.
Content warnings for childhood abuse, past addiction issues, PTSD episodes, and gambling.
My Thoughts
So far, the themes of this trilogy have grown more complex over the course of each book. And with the finale, we really hit the peak.
Walker and Ashton each have their own baggage and their own trauma walking into a very unconventional roommates situation. When that grows into an even more unconventional – and risky – fake boyfriends situation, everything in their pasts come floating right back up to the surface.
When we were introduced to Walker in the first book, I wondered what had become of him. And now I know. He gambled, he was miserable, and he pulled himself out of a very dark place. And he found support in his friend Casey.
It was nice to see Casey so settled into marriage with Joel, even if it was for a few short glimpses. And getting to know more of Ashton really was as delightful as I imagined it would be – even with his traumatic experiences with addition, and religious zealots as his primary caretakers.
I think what I loved most about this book was the very real feeling depiction of a PTSD attack. I know from personal experience how debilitating they are, and how unpredictable the recovery can be. I’ve never read another fictional account that felt more real, and more accurate. And I know not everyone experiences these episodes – the panic, the flashbacks, the anxiety – in the same way. But the way Ashton fell head-first into his attack felt almost exactly how my own PTSD affects me.
Ashton’s experiences were raw, and they broke my heart. I felt so protective over him. And part of that was projection on my part – how closed off I am, and the things I’ve done in order to protect myself, and keep myself safe. In a way, I saw a lot of myself in Ashton – for different reasons – and I just wanted to keep him safe, and secure.
This book was heavy, and dealt with a lot of very complex topics. But underneath it all were two men learning to grow, and learning trust.
I’m glad Walker and Ashton got their happy ending. I’m glad all of the couples in this trilogy did. I’m a way, it made the holiday theme feel more authentic, and less sugar coated.
This time of year is messy. It’s stressful. And honestly, it’s a lot of bullshit. But sometimes, good things can come of it, too.

I randomly picked up the cutest, gayest, Christmas book and I just cannot stop smiling while reading it.
It's called Mr. Jingle Bells and it features forced proximity, opposites attract, fake dating, office romance, as well as traumatic pasts, doggos, and Christmas fun. This book has it all.
I have about 100 pages left and I will probably go look at other books by this author after I finish.
#mr jingle bells#leta blake#books#reading#this is the type of book someone that loves romance and Christmas movies would be into#which is very me so...

M/M Romance Books for Newbies (Part 1)
It can be difficult to determine how good a book is based solely on Amazon or Goodread reviews; and when I made the switch from romance to M/M romance books back in 2016, I had no idea where to start! (Naively, I assumed they were all written by men, which is so not true).
Luckily, I found the Joyfully Jay blog, which kickstarted my journey of reading as many M/M romance books as possible. I tried to narrow down a list that I would recommend for those new to the genre and came up with 40, which I split into two parts. There's a bit of everything here from contemporary, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, shifters, and a bit of BDSM.
Please note: each link will bring you to a review of the book on Joyfully Jay and from there, you can click the buy link to access Amazon. (Also, a few of the Amazon links aren't working on the review page, so I included them below next to the book).
Here is Part One from Kiera Andrews to Sean Kennedy:
Kick at the Darkness by Kiera Andrews
Training Season by Leta Blake
The Magpie Lord by KJ Charles
Aftercare by Tanya Chris
Axel's Pup by Kim Dare
Exposed by Bey Deckard
Falling by Suki Fleet (Amazon Link)
Black Dog Blues by Rhys Ford
Once Upon A Haunted Moor by Harper Fox
Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts by Lyn Gala
Glitterland by Alexis Hall (Amazon Link)
For Real by Alexis Hall (Amazon Link)
Life Lessons by Kaje Harper
Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk
Riot Boy by Katey Hawthorne (Amazon Link)
Dark Space by Lisa Henry
Candy Land by Lissa Kasey (Amazon Link)
The Shearing Gun by Renae Kaye (Amazon Link)
Loving Jay by Renae Kaye
Tigers and Devils by Sean Kennedy (Amazon Link)

@obsessedwithdavrick wanted my top 7 reads of 2023 and I'm a sucker for book recs, so I'll play along ;)
Looking over my list, I read a lot of mediocre shit this year, including some books that get a lot of hype, but fell flat for me. However, there were some highlights. In no particular order:
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Kristin Hannah never fails to evoke emotion and doesn't always give you a happy ending, which is hard, but real.
The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah
See above description. Maybe times two for this book.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
A quick easy read. One of the more popular books that I read that actually lived up to the hype (IMO)
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
In a sea of WWII historical fiction, this one stands out.
Why Fish Don't Exist by Lulu Miller
This is a non-fiction book that definitely isn't for everyone. While I didn't love the authors attempts to relate everything to her own life, I loved the rest. Science meets history meets a real life suspicious death.
Now for the MM portion of my recs:
Power Plays and Straight A's by Eden Finley and Saxon James
This is the first of a series of 5 MM hockey romance books. They were just good, easy reads with a nice balance of spice and plot.
How to Say I Do by Tal Bauer
I love almost everything I've read by Tal Bauer. Again, a good balance of sex and investment in characters and storyline.
In progress:
Pictures of You by Leta Blake
I'm cheating and including an 8th one, which is a 3 book series. But actually a series....like it's one continuing story for all 3 books and you won't be able to stop between books. I'm almost done with book 3 and have read them all in the past few days. So, I guess my opinion could change if the ending lets me down, but it's totally sucked me in. It's a queer coming of age book set in the early 90's and it's not all unicorns and rainbows. There's a lot of talk about HIV/AIDS. There's a lot of time spent on dissecting a first love and how it can be all consuming, good and bad and everything in-between. There's secret relationships and coming out and first times and finding your tribe of people; enough sex scenes, but that's not the focus really. It's also fun to revisit a time before cell phones and internet.
I won't tag people, but I'm always up for good book recs! Send them my way!

Mr. Naughty List - Leta Blake (Mr. Christmas, book 2)
Synopsis
A cute teacher gets a spanking this Christmas. How hot can it get being on his former student’s Naughty List?
Is Aaron allowed to want a hot holiday fling with his young former student? Even more forbidden, is he allowed to want this student to spank him?
It’s another Christmas, and Aaron is still in the closet as a gay man and a natural submissive. With one youthful indiscretion blacking his ethics record, he can’t afford to indulge his desires no matter how pent up and needy that leaves him.
Until his former student comes home for the holidays.
Dominant and charming, RJ knows what Aaron needs—intense, steamy encounters and a firm hand. As Christmas nears, RJ helps Aaron unlock his true self. But family and fallout await, and all good things must end.
Or can their hot holiday affair turn them into lasting lovers?
Mr. Naughty List is a steamy, Christmas MM romance set in the Home for the Holidays series that began with Mr. Frosty Pants, but can be read as a standalone. Featuring light D/s, spanking, an older sub with a younger Dom, former student/teacher dynamics, and, of course, warm, sweet holiday feels complete with a strong happy ending.
My Thoughts
This book dealt with a few tropes that I’ve not reviewed in the past. So we’ll get this part out of the way – they are fictional characters, doing fictional things that have no bearing on reality. I am fully capable of – and technically trained in – the skill of critical thinking. If you’re not, and if you cannot separate fiction from reality, avoid this trilogy, because these characters and these tropes do appear in all three books in some form or another.
Now enough with the disclaimers and housekeeping.
I loved this book. I loved how Aaron and RJ found their way to each other, and I loved how they communicated openly and honestly about everything, from boundaries to insecurities to their feelings for each other.
As with the first book of this trilogy, both men have some baggage. Both men have some prior trauma to work through. It’s messy, it’s imperfect, and it’s a constant work in progress, but they’re committed. And that’s what matters – transparency and commitment.
Another aspect of this book that I greatly was the depiction of kink. It was safe, sane, and consensual. Boundaries were drawn, limits were discussed, and safe words were agreed on. And honestly, knowing how seriously RJ was about ensuring Aaron’s enjoyment and safety of their play was the hottest thing in the whole book.
While a little steamier – and kinkier – than some of my usual romance reads, I still really enjoyed Aaron and RJ’s story. And while I think I’ll always be a grinch in my own reality, I can at least enjoy some fictional holiday romance and cheer.

What to read next?!
Have you read just about every Sterek story in creation and want to make the jump to m/m romance, but don't know where to start? Here are seven books with main characters that immediately remind me of Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski. Please click on the below links for a full description from Joyfully Jay's review website. They are all available for purchase through Amazon. In fact, you can read five of them via Kindle Unlimited if you have a subscription. They should also be available through your library via Hoopla or Libby!
Adulting 101 by Lisa Henry - this is a coming-of-age story and it's hysterical!
Kick At The Darkness by Keira Andrews - first book in a series about a young man, a werewolf and a zombie apocalypse.
Training Season by Leta Blake - opposites attract between champion figure skater and a rancher.
Dark Space by Lisa Henry - this is a coming-of-age story in space and it's amazing!
Chaos Station by Jenn Burke and Kelly Jensen - it's the first book in a science fiction romance series.
For Real by Alexis Hall - this has a bit of an age-gap and it's so good! Please note: the buy link has changed on the review site, so click here to access it.
Special Delivery by Heidi Cullinan - a coming-of-age story between a conflicted young man and a hot trucker. I've never seen a hot trucker in real life, but just imagine him looking like Derek Hale!

The one thing I can give recs on, ever.
**= Especially trashy rec
F/f:
Deadline by Stephanie Ahn
A Treason of Truths by Ada Harper (technically scifi I guess but it feels fantasy to me)
Wolfsbane Winter by Jane Fletcher
The Inthya series by Effie Calvin (not that trashy I guess but I'm shouting it out anyway)
(For that matter the Alpennia series is not really trashy at all but again. Still a solid rec from me.)
**The Blood We Spill by Jo Havens (also technically scifi. I'm sorry.)
M/m:
Curses, Foiled Again by Sera Trevor
The Imposter Prince by Wendy Rathbone
Bodyguard by Dassy Bernhard (technically scifi again, but I'm not even sure what genre this is tbh)
*******The Invisible Chains series by Andrew Ashling BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT THE DARKEST TRASHIEST SERIES EVER. SO SO MANY CONTENT WARNINGS. YOU CAN ASK ME IF YOU WANT TO KNOW.
Shards of Ice by R. Phoenix
Any book in the Familiar Mates series by TJ Nichols, so good, I haven't read all of them yet but it's all standalones anyway. My fave is The Siren's Familiar!
**Not All Himbos Wear Capes by C Rochelle (superheroes count as fantasy to me)
Levity by Leta Blake & Keira Andrews
**Devilfish by Anna Kensing
**The Duty & Magic series by S. Rodman
Other (polyamory, trans rep, etc):
**The His Piratical Harem series by Drake LaMarque
**Also, the Gentleman's Bounty series by Drake LaMarque
A Suitable Consort for the King and His Husband by R Cooper
Huntsmen by Michelle Osgood
i asked this on twt but i wanna ask here too, I'm really in the mood for some trashy queer romance fantasy books if anyone got some recs <3
