On one hand, Young Justice is kind of neglected by the actual superheroes that should be looking out for them in a lot of crucial ways and very much failed by the adults around them

But on the other hand Red Tornado straight up hosts a parent-teacher conference where their respective legal guardians all show up, barring Batman who’s in traffic so Nightwing fills in instead because Robin’s dad does not know he’s a vigilante which is objectively hilarious

Does the JL know that YJ has just casually been beefing with darkseid??

imagine there’s a all hands on deck battle against darkseid and everyone is there but darkseid points out the nearest yj member (it’s probably Bart) like ‘you!!! You managed to escape with your lives last time but this meeting will be our last’ and for a split second Clark’s so fucking confused bc we haven’t fought in years wtf are you talking about then he hears ‘oh shit, look it’s Doug’ and everyone turns to see Bart nudging Kon going ‘he’s talking to you…damn he must still be mad about the coal’ and kons shoving him back bc ‘you were the one fucking around with his coal, you fucking walnut’ while Cassie’s being scruffed by wonder woman bc they’re trying to avoid being around when the jl finds out and tims having a very intense silent conversation lecture about why tf there’s at least half a dozen yj mission reports that mention an assailant named ‘Doug’ 

then Constantine shows up with Greta and everyone (including darkseid) starts yelling and if you don’t know her Greta seems like the one with the ownership of the braincell in yj (she is not but I guess she looks like it from a distance if you squint) which goes one of two ways:

retired-civilian!greta is giggling and waving excitedly to each member of yj along with hal before she practically tackles each of them in a tight hug while the titans, jl, & jl: dark lose their collective shit bc Constantine brought a tiny civilian dressed in pastel floral prints from head to toe into an active battle with fucking darkseid, a civilian who doesn’t register as a threat in any capacity until she makes eye contact with darkseid and gives him the most disgusted look imaginable “Doug… you look…well.” and then like three jl members have to stop her from leaping at darkseid while Hal’s like ‘no! No no, bad Greta! We don’t fight supervillains with…what is that?? I really fucking hope that’s not a gun…Is-is that fucking silly string?! Greta no we don’t silly string supervillains! We’ve talked about this!’

or

never-retired!/recently-out-of-retirement!greta who does the same thing but when she notices darkseid she rocks his shit in eight seconds flat and starts muttering about ‘that fucking Doug, always ruining my goddamn day’ and Hal is the first one to recover from the shock/confusion but only to tell Greta she’s grounded which gets another irritated ‘fucking doug!’ while Wally and Barry are losing it at Mach 6 while Bart tries to explain himself also at Mach 6, Cassie manages to catch Wally’s exasperated ‘where the fuck did you get Doug from?!’ And responds with ‘Apokolips’ in a tone that means they’re questioning his intelligence which leads to more screaming bc ‘so you knew who he was?? Why didn’t you come to us??’ and they all back up Kon when he claims they told Lex bc that means they have at least 3 hours of freedom while Lex is getting yelled at by the jl (and honestly every cape over 24)

Y'know, it's so funny to me when people make out like Tim Drake would keep files on how to take down his friends when Tim has explicitly said he disagrees with Batman on this:

Like, yes, during his Red Robin tenure he does make a Hit List full of contingency plans for known heroes. But if you go and read that, you'll notice that, while the Justice League and Damian may be on there, Tim's own friends are decidedly absent:

In fact, a lot of these heroes are people that have either (a) attacked Tim specifically, (b) have a track record that includes turning evil/getting mind controlled, or (c) are on the JLA (meaning Batman probably already had those files compiled and Tim just stole them).

So yeah: Tim's not down with contingency-planning for his friends. You know which one of the YJ crew DID agree with Batman though? My favorite blorbina Anita Fite, aka Empress:

But yeah, this contrast is honestly fascinating to me. Because while both Anita and Tim have been shown to be incredibly loyal individuals, this exchange really highlights the fact that, between the two of them, Anita is far more likely to engage in this kind of pragmatism when she thinks it's necessary to get the job done

The whole Our Worlds at War arc actually does a really good job of illustrating how both of them react to betrayal from within. It's not just the Batman Files conflict either -- I'm thinking specifically about the hallucination-based torture Granny Goodness put them through, which showed them their worst fears. Most of the team ended up having to watch their loved ones die, but what's super interesting to me is that we really only see Anita and Tim hallucinate that their loved ones blame them for their deaths:

Like. It's not the same as a teammate turning evil at all. But it does give us a good idea of how they'd both react when faced with a friend or teammate doing harmful things, albeit on a smaller scale. Because where Tim kind of just accepts Superboy yelling at him and moves straight into bargaining for Kon's life, Anita actually flips the script, gets angry, and defends herself against her father:

(she actually gets so righteously pissed off that she manages to break out of the VR simulation Granny Goodness had her trapped in, but that's another point)

But yeah, it's super interesting, because by this point, both Anita and Tim have been set up to be very similar characters. They both can be a little bit obsessive, they both have some issues with boundaries and stalking (Tim with Nightwing and Batman, Anita with Cissie), and of the team, they're both portrayed as the "normal" members (Anita does technically have mind control powers but she barely ever uses them, and in a fight, she's basically just a very good, human-level fighter)

But at the end of the day, though Batman forces Robin to put on a cool front of objectivity, Tim (at least in his pre-grief-spiral era) ultimately wants to see the best in his team. When the people he cares about screw up, he wants to give them second chances. And when that trust gets broken, his first instinct is to try to use diplomacy, or, failing that, simply remove himself from the situation (as we see at the end of the Our Worlds at War arc when he quits the team)

Anita, on the other hand, while still incredibly loyal, does not hand out that loyalty unconditionally. We see this when she tries to keep her identity secret from the YJ squad, we see it when she gets pissed in Granny Goodness's hallucination when her father blames her for her mother's death, and we see it when she later blames Secret for her perceived role in Anita's father's death

Anita also happens to sit right smack dab in the middle of the YJ morality scale; while she's generally pretty chill and willing to abide by typical superhero codes of ethics (unlike Slobo and Secret), she's also been shown to bend those rules when she believes it's necessary (as seen here when she tortures and threatens to kill a man for trying to hurt Cissie). Ultimately, what this means is, between Tim and Anita, it's honestly Anita who'd probably be the most willing to put her personal qualms aside, buckle down, and go against her loved ones if it was the only reasonable option

Anyway. This is a really long-winded way of saying I think Gun Batman's biggest nemesis should be Empress

Why doesn't Topaz like Aventurine?

Jelena becomes Topaz six and a half months before Aventurine joins the Cornerstones and she tries really hard to like him.

Getting into the Stonehearts isn’t easy, after all, and when Jade brings in someone to replace Beryl just a few months after her, she’s honestly pleased. She’s excited to have a new coworker who seems to be around her age, another newcomer.

But.

He's never in his office; when he even bothers to show up, he spends his work days wandering around different departments and levels and chatting with people and not doing his paperwork. He can be found in the breakroom playing on his phone more reliably than at his desk.

She doesn't work with him and tries really hard to not need anything from him, ever, but she can't seem to avoid him, either. He's always swanning around in their shared office areas, passing her door with a glib compliment or smart remark, and she bites her tongue and smiles at him when she can.

The cherry on the cake, the icing on the sundae, is that Numby likes him. Numby loves Aventurine; Numby goes to Aventurine first in any meeting, any room they share. Numby has no issues accepting coins and casino chips and folded up bills from Aventurine, and Aventurine has no issues teasing and spoiling Numby whenever the little treasure trotter pounces on him.

He laughs and hands out thousands of credits like it’s nothing, like it’s pocket change. Her entire job revolves around collecting debts in the twelve-plus digit range; she knows the value of money and his disregard of it is infuriating.

It's with a sense of vindictive sympathy that she catches him in the break room his second week in and asks how his first project is going. It wasn't a milk run, not quite, but it was only to get agreement for Epsilon 18 to join the System Accord.

"Mmm?" He says, looking up from his phone. "Which...oh, the Epsilon one? Done and dusted, my dear Topaz; they signed this morning."

She's pretty sure he spent all of last night drinking at a customer's party and she knows he was at the Business Development brunch this morning because she got several emails about it; a handful of them were complaints but most of them were just requests for his contact info. "That was fast," she says dubiously.

He grins and she wants to like him, she really does, but his smug little smirk is just so smarmy. "Ah, I got lucky," he says, shrugging elegantly. "It all just kind of fell into place."

She tries really hard to like Aventurine.

She fails.

Cassie, Bart, Tim, & Cissie are writers but Anita, Greta, & Kon are theater kids

Anita, Greta, and Kon being sad theater kids then you have Cassie, Cissie, and Bart being sad writers and then there’s Tim who’s just like that for some reason 

If Tim’s not available, Anita’s the best at espionage and subterfuge. Anita just refuses to do deep covers which is why technically Tim’s the go to for espionage like these maniacs could convince a complete stranger that they were twins and raised together

Tim can write a 57 paged research paper in an hour, he can outwit almost anyone, he can make up an identity on the spot, he can even lie to Batman but creative writing is the bane of his existence which makes no sense to Cassie or Anita and they’re so fucking offended 

“But you’re the most dramatic person we know?” “And you’re telling me you can’t write??” “Writing is hard!” “mf acting is hard???” “Physics is hard wtf…you can’t write???” “Leave me alone” (They’re mostly upset bc he’s a fucking nerd so any fic he writes would be long as hell and what is the team supposed to do during mission briefings?? Listen to the jl?? Not on your fucking life)

They think this means they’re safe bc Tim doesn’t know about fanfic but Cissie knows for a fact that he does (Tim’s a very popular beta writer for hero fics bc he’s so detailed about costumes, powers, allies/dynamics, vehicles & etc of literally every hero, anithero, and villain) but she can’t say shit bc Tim beta’d 23 of her 47 wondergirl x reader fics (they’re all 60k+ fics) 

Bart’s a jack of all trades but he prefers to write like angst and shit so he writes like angst no comfort mind fuckery with characters doing stupid stuff while in danger (the rest of yj is so offended when they find out it’s about all the shit he does alone when they’re too busy)

Kon’s an extreme hater so he just reads Cassie, Anita, & Barts fics and fucking acts them out in the most dramatic way possible like they’re fucking up diplomatic shit in space while a green lantern tries to rephrase everything they say so this planet won’t decide to go to war with earth but Kon secretly taught himself this alien language specifically to recite dialogue from Anita’s third account that she thinks no one knows about and it does not end well (for Kon or intergalactic diplomatic relations)

I recently rewatched "Ben 10,000 Returns" as a trained geneticist and I have a hypothesis I'd like to discuss:

Gwen and Sunny are the only two in the family who exhibit Anodite abilities (that we know of) after Verdona. This leads me to think that it's an X-linked dominant trait...except for the fact Ben uses the same powers without appearing to use the Omnitrix in "Ben 10,000 Returns." So, at least in terms of Anodites, it appears to be a complex trait that favors females until a certain (yet unknown) point of development. Super cool imho! Still doesn't explain how aliens and humans can reproduce, but it's fun to think about! I love genetics.
