‘straight actors shouldn’t play gay characters’ is such a strange take to me
not only does it imply that all actors shouldn’t play outside of their real life sexuality, including gay ones, but it’s also like, you expect every single actor to publicly out themselves even when 1) it’s not safe for them 2) they’re not ready 3) they maybe just don’t fucking want to, just so you can feel like they deserve to play that role
no one owes you access to their sexuality, and that includes public figures
#this is not abt trans roles#this is abt gay or bisexual etc characters#babes they are ACTORS#its called acting this is a game of make believe#i understand wanting queer voices to represent us and i agree that if you want to present queer experiences there should be queer voices#nvokved especially in the writers’ room#but actors dont owe you their sexuality they really dont#and an actor being gay or not is not what makes or break the value of the representation#its the way it is presented which yes the actor sure can have influence over but you dont think that maybe falls a little more on the writer#and director and exces instead of the person whose hired to perform content they didnt write?#jassi rants#sorry this take just annoys me so much bc it implies that ppl should be allowed to know everything abt a stranger#just so they can decide whether every action they have taken is morally righteous#let’s maybe put all this energy towards protesting censorship or towards countries where it’s literally impossible to portray queerness#outside of queercoding#or and this is wild#how about some real life queer issues? idk just a thought
