it is truly just the worst thing when a great piece of media has a good intricate and complex woman character, and males dumb her down to being a sex object. SHE IS NOT. FOR YOU.
#let’s see here#most of my examples are in fact teenagers#like Azula.#obvi Gwen stacy#suki from atla too#honestly pretty much any girl in ATLA#elastigirl#ahsoka#padmé#literally any woman in marvel or DC#or any twi lek in Star Wars#let’s just say. all female characters get over sexualize bc men have small brains and even smaller d!cks

What happened to this fandom? I can't believe it. I thought people who watch this show would have a brain and it was like that in 2015/2016. But now all I can see is the WORST fandom ever. We watched out for each other back then but now we do the opposite. We don't care for each other as deeply as we used to do. There are just a few who do that. I used to feel home here but now I get sick of all these little kiddos sexualizing grown men and women. But that's okay for them bc they're female, r8?
Dearest anon,
I think you’re likely referring to the SVU fandom, in which case, I have to be honest, I’m not entirely sure what you mean when you say the worst fandom ever as I’ve been a little out of the loop with regard to what’s currently on Twitter and even here, I just come to Tumblr strictly for the fanfic and gifs, etc. I usually hear news if and when someone tells me lol I’m truly sorry that your experience hasn’t been the best as of late, though.
I, myself, have had a great experience within this fandom, though I will acknowledge that the fandom itself has evolved (as fandoms so often do when there’s a major cast change). To be totally candid, I consider myself much more part of the Raul Esparza fandom than the SVU fandom. I just simply have retained my interest in Raul’s career and my love of SVU is still there, but has tapered off a little bit.
As for the sexualizing grown men and women, if you’re referring to imagines and HCs about characters...I mean...it’s been happening since the dawn of time, and they’re fictional anyway, so I don’t see the harm in it whatsoever. Part of the fun of fandom has always been fanfic/imagines/HCs and even the really dirty ones are fun to read/write/talk about. With the characters. The fictional characters.
If what you’re referring to however is sexualizing the actors themselves, then I can see where your frustrations lie. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with finding an actor/actress attractive and voicing as much, but when it goes from, “So and so is so cute/hot/attractive (whatever word you decide to employ)” to “I would *insert sexual expletive here* with his/her *insert wildly inappropriate reference to body part*” that’s when, in my opinion a line has been crossed.
That said, we do happen to have a good number of young people within the fandom, and I can’t sit here and honestly say that when I was younger I didn’t do exactly the same thing. I think if you look back at when you were that age, you would remember you thinking/saying similar things (even though back then--at least for me--there wasn’t nearly the internet there is now).
My point is that they’re just young and don’t yet know any better. Let me be clear though, it doesn’t necessarily make it okay, however it doesn’t make them terrible people in the slightest, it makes them young.
If you’re not my age and are one of the younger fans, then consider yourself mature for your age. Truly. Because most young people don’t think in terms of “maybe this isn’t appropriate to voice here” when it comes to things like fandom. Fandom is a place where you can gush and fangirl/fanboy about your favorite celebs/characters/shows/movies/books. It’s never had very many rules apart from common courtesy when using a gif or manip that is not your own and treating each other with respect.
It used to be that--for the most part--fandom was largely for teenagers and people in their early twenties. However, more and more people my age and even older are becoming involved in fandom, because fandom is fun for the most part. Sure there are instances of shipwars and a few bad apples, but for the most part fandom is meant to be a shared experience with like-minded people who love the same thing(s) you do.
Again, I don’t know your experience, I can only go by my own, but I have encountered in this fandom nothing but love and respect for the most part. I will certainly acknowledge that there is a small amount of bad apples, but luckily they’re the minority--at least from what I can tell.
I honestly, sincerely hope that you can have a better experience within the fandom moving forward, because the individuals that I have interacted with are some of the sweetest and best people I’ve ever met, and the SVU fandom (I feel) is evolving with the loss of Barba. Meaning new people are joining, some leaving, new content for new characters and ships are being produced. You can always choose to interact with different people within the fandom and try to avoid those few bad apples.
I know this post has been lengthy and I do apologize for that, but I wanted to give you as honest an answer as I could. Evidently, I talk a lot lol Either way, I hope you’re able to find a better experience, whether within this fandom or another (psst, come on over to the Raul Esparza fandom, these guys are fantastic!!)
Sinceriously,
Amanda
